Today’s History of Magic location was a little different than the usual classroom environment as Professor Fergersnout has asked all the students to gather in the Courtyard. Not that a change in scenery was particularly out of the ordinary for the eccentric Professor’s odd teaching style and with it being two months into the term already the students should be quite accustomed to Fergersnout’s oddities.

Despite it being November, the weather was quite mild for the time of year and the mid-afternoon sun was providing low beams of mild heat across the grounds. The Professor has thought ahead anyway and warmed up the courtyard using a series of spells so that the students didn’t get too chilly whilst they waited. They needn’t worry for too long anyway as soon enough they would get moving.

The Professor could be found sporting historical style robes from the 1800’s, a change from her usual colourful attire although her much favoured pointy hat was still perched atop her head only in a dreary brown instead of the vivid purple. She stood under an archway beckoning the students over to form a huddle near her whilst they waited for the stragglers to join.

“Come come.. Let’s see all those excited faces.” After all, one of Professor Fergersnout’s classroom rules was that frowning was not accepted when she was around.

What frustrated Ary was how slow the movements were. Never before did appreciate so much his small and skinny but agile stature.

In hindsight, Solly would feel a bit bad for just abandoning Anna without showing her what to do. He was a bad friend, really. Unfortunately he was too caught up in the moment, and was very overexcited when seeing a club being swung towards him. Their slower than normal movements completely working in his favour and Solomon was able to slide out of the way of the crash, and he hid behind the first object he could see.

“HAHAHAHA.” He CACKLED.

Ary didn’t expect to catch him on the first swing, did he?!

Solly made a dash for the next object to stand behind, taking his eyes off the giants for a second to work out a route which COULD end in disaster..

If Ezra thought that he was rubbish, it was nothing compared to how Ary felt about himself as a giant. He had completely missed whacking Solomon. “I’m sorry I’m rubbish,’’ he remarked, shaking his head slowly. Ugh. He hated feeling so sluggish! “Maybe if we work as a team, we can be able to get a few centaurs.” For example, Ary was already eyeing Ezra’s target - Desiree. If he could swing his club in the other direction that Ezra had swung, then there was an increased chance of one of their clubs connecting with her armour.

So, even though the first year was quite tempted to go after Solly again, he took aim at Centaur!Desiree from the opposite direction of Ezra’s. There had been no rule about two giants tackling one Centaur anyway.

Did his club connect? Or was he still too slow?

The start of the battle was seemingly going well judging by the beaming faces of the little Beansprout’s faces. However it seemed as if she had slightly misjudged her class division, either that or some of the students had switched sides, and the numbers were a little skewed towards the Centaurs and it seemed as if the Giants were outnumbered.

Not being overly tall herself, she considered it the perfect opportunity to get stuck in and headed over the spare potion which she downed in a single gulp. Her joints clicked and groaned as they stretched, her clothes straining a teensy bit as they adapted to her size before stopping at seven foot. She was tall enough to give her an advantage but not too tall that anyone would get accidentally hurt should she dramatically fall. She may have been a little off-rack but she DID actually think about these things before diving head first into her lesson plans. Her movements were obviously stilted by the potion but weren’t slow enough that she couldn’t achieve anything.

“Come out, come out wherever you are little Centaurs” she chortled, her voice deepening with the growth potions affects.

Anna's delight that Solomon would offer some of his expertise was short lived as the activity began and her friend off. Rather than be disappointed or crestfallen, however, the fourth year smiled wide at his enthusiasm. It was nice to see and she might even point out to him later how he was getting excited about history when he previously kind of sort of would moan and groan whenever they would pretend to do assignments together. Mostly Anna's fault because she was a terrible study buddy due to how easily distracted she became.

Still with no really idea how to use her bow but every idea how to throw, the Hufflepuffle decided she may just try to do this javelin style. She had just as much of a chance hitting something while using a bow as she did using her scrawny arms.

Seeing as Anna already was fun sized, she likely looked even more so once her peers were all giant'd up. While not the most gifted with balance, she could be rather nimble and began making her way through the course at a modest pace - not quite a tortoise but also no where near a hare. Maybe like...a chipmunk? And with the majority of the attention on Solomon - he probably enjoyed that though so she wouldn't interrupt! - she was able to cover quite a bit of ground quickly while clutching one of her arrows in her left hand.

Skipping serpentine through a portion as she approached a large mass to hide behind and catch her breath, Anna could not help but CRAVE a bit of a glitter explosion. She supposed she could taunt the giants to try and draw attention her way... she kept her mouth closed, however, and peeked her head out from her hiding place to check things out. Biting her lip, Anna lofted the arrow she had been holding in the direction of the giants with...not exactly the intention to hit any of them but maybe just be a bit of a distraction.

Was she meant to not do that just yet? Honestly, Anna had kind of forgotten.

And then she heard the professor and she popped out entirely.

"Right here!"

For some reason, Ary felt his annoyance at his slowness diminishing. Perhaps he was rapidly adjusting to it or maybe his mind was just making peace with the situation. Whatever the cause, he was just going to continue doing his best. Did Professor Fergersnout know that she had provided him with some bit of motivation when his gaze alighted on her and it sunk in that she too was a giant? It was rather nice to have an adult on the team!

And just maybe, he got too caught up in this moment for the next thing the ‘little’ firstie knew was something had hit his armour. It didn’t smash into him but the arrow came in with a gentle thud against his chest. He looked down in time to see it tumble to the ground. Okaaay, whoever had done that was amusing even if Ary couldn’t figure who had thrown it.

His head suddenly jerked up though.

Had one of the centaurs really just answered the professor?

Had it been that easy all along to get the centaurs out of hiding?

"Over there!'' Excitedly, Ary extended a finger, pointing out Anna's general direction.

No sooner had Desiree hidden behind a boulder that she saw a Giant!Ezra coming toward her. Did he really think she’d come when called? She wasn’t stupid enough to wander right into the line of fire! The calling, plus the younger boy’s giggle had her giggling too, but that giggle soon turned to a yelp as the foam club came toward her.

She ducked out of the way of Ezra’s club… straight into the path of Ary’s. Glitter burst as the club hit her in the shoulder. Merlin, she was so glad that it was glitter instead of something messy like mud or water!

Ohh, you asked for it, boys! She thought, a look of intense determination on her face. Two against one isn’t fair! Her bright blue eyes darted from one “Giant” to the other. Which one should she target first? Setting her sights on Giant!Ezra, she aimed her arrow. Did it hit?

She didn’t stick around long enough to find out. Creeping out from behind her boulder, she ran as fast as she could to the next object large enough to hide behind. The Giant!Professor’s calls were all but ignored. Nope, not falling for that!

Fergersnout hadn’t thought that her call would’ve actually been answered but alas a curly-haired Centaur otherwise known as Anna had popped up from behind the object she was hiding behind and announced her presence. The Professor couldn’t help but chuckle which reverberated across the clearing thanks to the extra deep voice from the effects of the potion. She awkwardly stomped her way over to her, swinging her club from left to right with no real intention for aiming at anything in particular and just whatever may have come into contact with her club. “I don’t think that’s quite how Centaur’s use an arrow Miss Walles” she chortled, breaking character for a second upon seeing her lob the arrow rather than use her bow.

To her left came a glitter explosion from Desiree being hit by Aryan’s club. “GRAAAAHHH!” the Professor grumbled out in celebration of the minor victory, attempting to emulate the deep native tongue of the Giants (which unfortunately she was not fluent in).

Now she was completely out in the open and an easy target should any of the Centaurs take their aim.

The loud ringing on Fergersnout’s pocket watch that was slipped into her robes signified the end of the lesson. She moved back over to the table where the potions and armour once lay, clearing her throat for attention and watching as the students started to shrink back to their normal size before her very eyes.

“Unfortunately we have come to the end of our time here. Oh wait one second..” she began, becoming distracted by the effects of the potion wearing off. Her bones creaked as she began to shrink, first her legs and then her torso leaving abnormally long arms to be the last thing to transition making her temporarily resemble a strange looking ape before they too reversed into normal size. “..That’s better. Now where was I?” Easily distracted, she was. “Yes! I hope this exercise helped your understanding of wars with Giants as our opponents easier than reading out of a textbook. As discussed earlier, there are certain controversies associated with portraying Giants as the ‘villains’ in these wars and whether there may be an alternative to conflict should this ever happen again. If you feel so inclined, join us tomorrow at Debate Club and we can discuss this further. For everyone else, homework will be posted on the noticeboard.” As was the norm. “Class is dismissed, please return your armour to the table and brush the glitter off of yourselves before heading back into the castle, I’d rather not get a telling off from our dear Elves” she chuckled.
