"You know... this looks like a likely spot," Copernicus pointed out a row of benches perched on the edge or a pond that reminded him of floating lily pads back in Herbology. Those had been exciting days, even if he would never use lily pad knowledge again. Hopefully.
Copernicus was about to remark on how nice and shaded a nook it was before he realized who their neighbors were. Nico. Raiden. Nico's... date person. "Eh. More friends, Shiny."

Once Rex had make his leave, Lexi turned to Lily to say her goodbyes, as well. She needed to find Sage and make sure he wasn't about to have a panic anxiety attack or something of that sort. Sage and events such as this one tended to go together like ice cream and sardines---two things that didn't quite go together at all. "I'll see you around," she said to Lily, smiling then turning and heading back inside.
He knew that she would disappear on him sometime tonight. It was all just a matter of when she’d slither away. It was definitely no surprise that, after returning from getting punch, that she was gone. And now the hunt for Vanessa Corbette begins!
It was really odd walking around the Great Hall again. While walking around in search of his date with two cups of punch at hand was strange enough, what was really shocking was how much Seth remembered the place. In fact, it was kind of creeping him out. All those memories were flooding back into his mind. How lovely.
She better be somewhere outside.
And, oh, thank Merlin she was!
“There you are, Vannie,” Seth said, walking over to her. He then handed over a cup of punch (she better still want that) and grinned. “Don’t worry. I didn’t spike it with anything that would make you – oh.” They had company. Hopefully they didn’t want punch too...

Cela made faces.
Friends were nice, but snogging was nicer and she'd had intentions. Maybe if they were quiet, then they wouldn't notice them?
Cela held her finger up to Cope's lips and smiled softly at him.

Shhh. Copernicus held his finger up to his own mouth, although his expression made it clear he was totally perplexed. Why were they being quiet? Didn't they want to say hello to Raiden and Nico?

She let go of his hand as she felt that hippogriff standing on her chest pain again. Did this mean... he didn't trust her now? She wrapped her arms around her stomach and leaned forward trying to ease the pain she was feeling. It wasn't working though, the pain was still there, stronger than ever. She didn't know what else to say to convince him that nothing had happened. She had already told him everything there was to tell, it was as if he wasn't listening to her though.
She couldn't even bring herself to look at him now because she knew if she did she would start crying again. No, she would just keep her head down with her eyes closed trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill over once again.
Why was this happening to her, why did her perfect night with Carter have to turn out like this?
Carter continued looking at the ground. Judging by the silence he'd guess that Marie hadn't taken that so well. If only she realized how much he didn't want to have to say that.
"I know you said that nothing happened." he said. But he'd been told that before. And even if nothing did happen right then, if one of them felt anything like they used to something would happen.
"I just don't feel comfortable with it." he said completely ashamed of what he was saying. "I won't be able to get that image out of my head..." Nope, everytime that Evan was mentioned that would be what popped in his head - them holding hands by a lake.
He wouldn't blame Marie if she decided that he was being unreasonable. If it was the other way around he'd probably say the same thing. But he wasn't sure how he could go on in their relationship with that image burned in his head. It reminded him too much of last term.

"We're being sneaky?"
"Yes." Celandine whispered, not particularly aware that her dress kind of made it impossible for her to be invisible, considering how it caught the light. She gave Cope an impish look and planted a little kiss on his chin.

This was not the first time that Raiden had been asked about his lack of date tonight. He kinda felt his cheeks turn a bit pink, probably not noticeable really, because... well it was kinda starting to feel embarrassing. Was not having a date really that bad?
"There... was someone I wanted to bring, but..." He wrinkled his nose. "She's not an alumni. So she wouldn't have been allowed to come."
Tagren was leaving?
...Raiden felt even more like a third wheel than he had before.
"Nice to meet you," he called after the guy, before looking back to Celestina and Nico. "Why did he call you Bucky?"
He'd seen her mouth quite clearly, as she'd... well it had been focused on, because she'd been spitting on him. She certainly didn't have buck teeth or anything.
Conner, Bree, Amy...I guess...whoever else. I don't know.

Tagren Sevens was being a typical GUY; all confusing and with mood-swings. Twisting her mouth at his retreating back, Celestina waved her hand until he disappeared from sight.
"That was awkward," she declared, not really to anyone. It was just something that needed to be said.

He looked at Bucky again and was quiet for a moment. Then he spoke softly.
"We don't have to dance if you don't want to, I'd just like to dance with you I think." More of that distraction business. "You'll need a story or two to tell Briony at least." A smile flickered and he turned his attention back to Raiden. Raiden would surely provide a distraction, yes?
Snorting, Celestina rubbed her cheek with the back of her hand. "I'm going to need more than two stories to keep her happy," she mumbled in reply. "I received threats and..."
Well, there were things that Briony was demanding that were simply ludicrous. "I'm going to have to fill up my stories with a few white lies or something."

Aw. Poor Raiden looked unhappy about the rules regarding the ball. "At least you have someone special in your heart? You know, love makes the world go round."
Not that Celestina fully believed that. She was just talking for the sake of talking and because quoting sentimental droll like that made her seem ~wise~ and ~mature~. Not that she had any idea why she was attempting to appear those things. Confused, she tilted her head. By the time Raiden was asking her a question, Bucky was still confused.
"Errr," she stammered, trying to bring back some sign of intelligence into her face. "That's because...that's my nickname," explained Celestina glancing at Nico out of the corner of my eye. "Since I was little. Most people back at Hogwarts knew me by that name rather than my actual name. I think Celestina is quite boring and fussy and presumptuous."
And Bucky was obviously a better choice. Obviously.

Marie still sat there doubled over trying not to cry but it wasn't working. Once she heard Carter's voice again the tears started to fall. He still sounded like he didn't trust her or believe her. How could he not trust her? She had never done anything for him NOT to trust her, including whatever he thinks happened tonight.
Finally looking up at him she wiped the tears from her eyes. "I don't have a problem with not being around Evan..." although she couldn't promise that she wouldn't ever be around him since they are in the same house, "... I just want to know what I've done that you don't believe me or trust me." Because clearly she had no clue why he didn't trust her.

Carter breathed out the breath he didn't realize he was holding. He was relieved. She hadn't yelled at him!
But she did say something that pained him worse than her yelling. "It's not that I don't trust you." he said. Although, in the back of his mind, that thought was still there.
"I don't trust him." he said. He couldn't even bring himself to say the name. "He realized too late what he had." he said. "And... And... And.. " And he didn't want Marie to fall into that line of thought because Carter knew what he had and didn't want to give that up.
He loved spending time with Marie. Merlin, he might even love her. He didn't know. But he knew he wanted to find out.

"Perhaps you might manage to see her later." Nicholai murmured, giving Raiden a closer look. Girlfriend? It was about time, really. Raiden was of age now after all.
He grinned at the question directed at Bucky.

"I suppose it was." Nicholai murmured in agreement, though he was clearly unaffected by whatever all of that is. Another smirk appeared. "Well, feel free to tarnish my name and reputation as much as necessary when constructing those lies. If you like you can even come visit my house, keep Briony on her toes wondering about things when you aren't magically on the doorstep at midnight."
Nicholai's face briefly flickered, darkening and then just a touch of regret and sadness. Love wasn't something he had much reason to talk about these days.
"Based on her last name." Nico offered to Raiden in an aside. And then to Bucky, "I don't think Celestina is boring at all, but then neither are you so its fitting in some ways." But then, he did mostly call her Bucky, simply because she apparently preferred it.
Nico looked up, his eye caught by something sparkly. With a resigned sort of sigh he eyed what was clearly his sister and Copernicus for a moment, shook his head.
So much for setting a good example miss Head Girl. He returned his attention to Bucky.
He nodded. It could get better. But only one thing could make it better. And that thing was unlikely to happen.
He nodded, "Just out here." They didn't need to go inside. It would be just the two of them. He would like it that way.
Aww. Cute.
Gold nodded, more cheerfully.
"What kind?" she asked, as she looked down at her high heels. They were sooo sparkly. Really distracting. "I mean, it's easier to decide dance preferences, when there's music."
Please, no oldies. Something fun. Gold could go with whatever. But it would be nice to be able to enjoy. Not that that wasn't all she had done, so far tonight. She gave Dylan a little smile.
Who had said anything about love? Raiden was seventeen. Love wasn't something you were really supposed to have at that age. At least... well some people thought they had it, but usually they were wrong. It wasn't like... he'd known Emmalee for that long.
You didn't fall in love in such a short time. He didn't even want to consider the idea of how that would work in the situation he and Emmalee shared. Raiden's face went rather more red at what Celestina had said, and he suppressed the feeling of discomfort.
"I dunno when I'll get to see her again, actually..." He'd seen her rather recently, but who knew when the next weekend was, and considering the fact that she was getting out in the world more, she might not even be around for him to see. "It's... a weird situation."
Ahhh. So Bucky was from her last name then? And she'd been called that all her life? Celestina wasn't a boring name at all in his opinion, but then again Celestina also didn't seem like the kind of girl to... er... really like girly things like her own name. She'd already taken off her shoes and undone her hair; she hadn't gone so far as to transfigure her dress into jeans and a teeshirt, but he had a feeling that would look ridiculously natural on her.
"Hmmm. I like both. Do you still like going by Bucky better than Celestina, then?"

Briony Avalon's brain just worked that way. Before he mind could run away with thoughts about the workings of a Briony Avalon, Celestina was forced to pay attention to Nicholai. Her name had caught up and it was, according to him, not boring at all, just as she was not.
That was...well...whatever it was, compliment or not, it pleased and she rubbed the back of her neck nervously. Bucky supposed this was where she said something like thanks, buddy, or not as interesting as you or...something to that sort.
Instead, she gave a sort of chuckle snort, that made her face grow a slight shade of magenta. Luckily for her, and her pale complexion, Raiden was still around to distract everyone.
"Uh..." she said, bringing her hand away from her neck and towards one arm, rubbing it softly. When it had become breezy, she did not know. "Well, it doesn't really bother me all that much anymore. It was just one of those stupid kid phases, you know? Where you're supposed to reject dolls, and pink and bows and stuff. She ran out of girly things that she liked. "I guess I'm more about feeling like a girl now a days than looking like a girl." That made sense.

Could he go crawl back into the castle now? Seth thought that he had recognized someone in there just before he had found Vannie and those other people who were supposedly friends. Apparently one of them – the blonde-haired woman – had a staring problem. Why was she looking at him like that? It was a little disturbing to be perfectly honest.
Huh. She looked sort of familiar to him, but he would have never been able to match up the name with her. So this was Lyra? That was … nice.
“Yep, that would be me,” he said, not really buying the smile that had suddenly appeared on her face. He ran a hand through his oh-so-perfect hair and smiled in return. He then blinked, the smile disappearing, when he noticed that she was still looking at him in the way she was before. “I … I don’t really remember you either.”
Seth then took a sip of his punch and looked over at Vannie. Help!

Hmmm.
"I suppose I've had my share of those myself." Weird situations that was. Nico gave Raiden a smile. It'd be fine or something. Couldn't be worse than his own particular story at least.
He glanced over at his sister again.

"And why not make her happy?" Nicholai agreed. Someone might as well be, see? And he got the impression it was Brie's personal mission to ensure that Bucky made a mark somehow. Something about something being fabulous. Nico shrugged it off and watched openly as Bucky blushed again and rub at her arm.
"I don't think my sister ever rejected such things, she was just a little late discovering them in the first place." Nico remarked, eyeing Celandine again. You'd never know by looking at her now, that was for sure.
"Are you cold, Celestina? We could go back inside if you wish." Or he'd offer her his jacket if she wished to stick around out here.
He smirked again at her last statement. "You're a beautiful woman, Bucky. Why not embrace the appearance and the feeling both?"

He smirked again at her last statement. "You're a beautiful woman, Bucky. Why not embrace the appearance and the feeling both?"
"I never thought of not making her happy," answered Celestina honestly. It had, indeed, never crossed her mind. Her lashes fluttered as she stared at Nicholai curiously. Bucky knew her reasons to make Brie happy. She loved her and owed her so much but Nico...well, his relationship was a bit more distant wasn't it?
Although, his brother Adri was married to Briony. Uh. Confusing.
"Um, just a little," she said, looking over at Raiden and smiling at him. "At first I didn't notice because I was too busy, you know, um...doing stuff," she mumbled and winked at the boy. Hehe. He had been a good sport and not brought up the fact that she had accidentally spat on his face while blowing a raspberry at the world. "But now I do feel a bit chilly. I guess I need my shoes now..."
Her shoe mission was stalled by Nico once more and his ability to find compliments to give her. Another dorky chuckle snort escaped her, and she just avoided eye contact. At least until her face felt less hot. Right. Wiggling her toes, she reached down for those. "I feel bad though," she mumbled bringing her feet up on the bench, forgetting propriety. "I don't want to leave Raiden out here by himself."
Heh. Celestina was... Raiden had to admit that she was cute. Funny. With her sparkly things and unicorns. He half-smiled at that and nodded. She was girly. Kinda. A bit.
"Cela used to make pirates out of broccoli and drown them in mash," he pointed out. That was how he'd met her. Not exactly the most girly thing to do, but... well. He doubted he'd ever find her doing that again. She'd... turned into a girl. A lot.
Ahhh. They were... going to go inside. Raiden eyed the strappy shoes that Celestina had previously removed, wondering again why girls subjected themselves to such torture. And they wouldn't even keep her feet warm or anything. She needed like... socks.
The prefect glanced around. If they were going in... he was going to have nothing to do out here. Not that he'd set out to have something to do... he'd been coming out here to breathe, and he'd done just that. And he'd made a new friend, too. But if they were going in, he'd... be sitting out here alone.
... except not quite, because there was Cela and Cope. Raiden's eyes paused on them for a second before turning away; whatever they were up to, he didn't want to intrude upon, nor did he want to see. Cela was apparently in snog mode tonight. Did not need to see it. Nope.
Maybe he should go back in, too. And bother someone else. Nico was understandably more interested in his date than anything else, and Raiden was sure Nico didn't want to split her attention with him.
"It's... alright. I don't want to get in the way or anything." Awkward turtle. Awkward, awkward turtle. "I might just... go back in and wander around or something."
"And how about making yourself happy?" Nicholai asked. He slipped his jacket off as she confirmed she was cold, small smile on his face though he didn't know what stuff she meant, whereas Raiden clearly did. When she put her feet up on the bench, considering her dress was short and all, Nico covered her feet and knees with his jacket.
He rolled his sleeves up, fussing with them and cuffing them neatly. "No rush. I'm quite sure Raiden will be fine though."
He nodded at Raiden, looking up at the boy. Well. Man. Whatever. "She did." Nicholai smiled softly. Things changed. Celandine did not play with her food anymore, not like she used to, though you could still bribe her with potato and gravy quite easily.
"In the way?" Nicholai shook his head. "I wouldn't say you're in the way, but why not ask someone to dance? It isn't as if you need a date to dance after all." Plenty of dateless girls here.

That was a really good question. One that Celestina hadn't put much thought into. Normally, she went about life spontaneously. Sometimes, she was just happier doing things for others. Sometimes it didn't turn out so well for her but Bucky didn't mull over it much. She'd lick her wounds and find something shiny to distract her. Then she'd hug Rosemary and threaten to sell her to the nearest zoo for funnies. Not that the ole tortoise was very responsive to her taunts--or at all.
Yeah, life was a bit weird like that.
Cela, Celestina had learned, was Adri's little sister. In that way, she was Nico's little sister too. Briony seemed to get along okay with her. That was a relief.
"I don't particularly like broccoli," she added, thinking it was an essential detail to share with both Raiden and Nico. Pursing her lips, she worked around Nico's jacket on her legs to finish strapping on her shoes. Bringing her legs down, Bucky tapped her feet against the ground happily. She was still thinking over Nico's question but hadn't come up with anything good. "I think that would make me happy," she chirped, smiling at Raiden. "If you asked a girl to dance. I saw a lot of girls inside when I was at the food table. I guess that's Hogwarts' way of making up for the lack of lactose free items."
Hogwarts was always trying to kill her with cramps. Bucky rubbed her cold nose and inspected Nico out of the corner of her eyes. That shirt he had on was snazzy. Maybe she should point it out. "I like your shirt. It makes you look very impressive. Like an undercover agent."
Whenever a sentence was followed with 'but...', Raiden had learned, the person actually meant 'you kinda are, but here's a way to remedy that situation'. The prefect rubbed one hand through the hair at the back of his head; they were both suggesting dancing. Something Raiden wasn't particularly good at, nor was he sure there were many girls that would be so inclined as to dance with him. He'd gotten much better since the lessons, but he still wasn't nearly as good at it as others.
He could always bother Nia or something, he guessed. If she wasn't dancing her feet off already.
"I could, I guess. That's what these things are about, isn't it... dancing." He resisted the urge to wrinkle his nose. Instead, he grinned at Celestina. "Do you mind saving one for me later, maybe? If you're not dancing with Nico the entire time."
And if she didn't get rushed to St. Mungos to save her poor feet from the torture devices strapped to them.

Did Nico know such muggle things?"
"Duly noted." Nicholai smiled at Bucky. "No broccoli." He rubbed at his forearm, fingers idly tracing the red seam of a scar that was only just visible in the low light, running along the muscle in a slash downward from somewhere beneath his rolled sleeves.
He smiled at Raiden too. That was kind of cute that Bucky wanted Raiden to find someone to dance with as well. Nico had always considered dancing fun actually, as it was one of the few pursuits of leisure encouraged in his home.
"An undercover agent?" Nico laughed. "Ah but, if I were, wouldn't the point be to not look like one? Still, I suppose I can't complain if you're impressed. I guess thats the idea when it comes to a date." He gave her a lopsided smile and shrug. It sort of felt like he'd forgotten really.

Who was he going to bother about dancing. HMMMMM.
"Dancing and socialising." Nico agreed. "You make it sound like a chore." He pointed out, raising one eyebrow. "Not a big dancer, Raiden?"
He leaned his forearms on his knees and sat forward, hands clasped loosely and quite comfortably.
"I'd have expected lessons would have been compulsory or something." He remarked.

Celestina had always been easily distracted. Whenever something moved, she usually looked. It was particularly eye catching if it was bright, sparkly or shiny. It had been something Professor Blaylock teased her with and used against her to get Bucky to do tiresome chores.
So, naturally when Nico started using his fingers to touch his forearm, Bucky's green eyes followed his actions. Without any thought at all, she too reached out and touched the scar with furrowed brows. "That doesn't look good," she mumbled, poking his forearm before pulling her finger away.
Before, you know, Nico bit her or something.
"Well, I suppose but in the movies they usually wear this kind of clothes, although they have some strange fascination with bow ties."
Nicholai had no bowties. Pity really, Bucky thought he'd look really funny with one. HEHE. "Raiden, I expect you to come looking for me now," she said as an answer to his request. "I'll be upset if you forget about me over some other girl!"
