| | | Best Kept Secret - Sa16+ Image from Sirius's Lothlorien Paradise Well, I was bored since I finished my now most favourite book series (next to Harry Potter of course!) and I got stuck on other F.Fs, so I started another one after some thought about it. The first few paragraphs might be weird to you, but it’s just my foreshadowing on what might happen.
Hints will be dropped about the ‘secret’ throughout the story.
And actually, I started two weeks ago and I finished the entire story xD So updates won’t take forever since I don’t have much homework this semester to throw me off. Come January/February though, if it takes that long to post it all... different story 0.o
And it does take a few chapters to get into it, but it'll get interesting, promise!
NO, this F.F is NOT based on the song by Skillet. I liked the name, but the song didn’t fit.
And I’ve had longer F.Fs I can say. This is 20 chapters (so far, might add if I feel I should).
And the summary is a bit on the long side, I know, but you should read it all (depends on what you define as long).
Now someone has a story to tell...
Deanne Lyon has transferred to Hogwarts, hoping to start fresh at a new school. She’s always been different, and every time someone found out why, she would be shunned. Hogwarts is her last hope of ever getting a decent education. This time, she has to be more careful.
Upon her arrival for her final year in Hogwarts, she is automatically the centre of attention (as normal). After being sorted into Gryffindor, she becomes fast friends with many people, even if she isn’t the most trusting girl anyone’s ever met. They think they know her...
One day, though, after becoming Draco Malfoy’s partner in Potions class, things start to change. She finds herself torn between friends, and she finds herself in a situation where she’s stuck between two guys that have strong feelings for her, but they don’t really know her. They fight and vie for her attention, hoping to be the lucky one.
How will this mysterious girl with a dark, life-changing secret decide what to do about everything? And what will happen when the most unsuspecting help comes along from a mortal enemy, while at the same time is being harassed, annoyed... totally bugged by someone from her past? Someone that isn’t willing to give up on her?
Will she choose to tell her secret? And for that matter, who will she choose? Harry, Draco... or maybe her ‘friend’ from the past? Will she choose anyone at all? P.S: It does romance, I promise Just not for the first little bit... It’s kind of skimmed through in some parts, and I’m sorry for that It would drag out forever if I didn’t. NOTE: This is 7th year and after the (first) Battle of Hogwarts, but Snape is still considered a professor (he’s the Potions master... again. Not DADA teacher). I figured he’d help with the story a bit --------------------------------------------- Chapter 1
The Hogwarts Express
Let me get this clear; I am not normal. You think you know who I am within moments of meeting me, but everything you think is wrong. I might be beautiful, ‘painfully beautiful’ as I’ve been told, I might be smart, so what if I’m graceful and nothing bad ever seems to happen to me? Does that really mean I am like everyone else?
It doesn’t. No matter what you’re thinking right now, you’re wrong. I can’t tell my secret to just anyone anymore, I’ve learned my lesson about that. I can’t trust anyone, and I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll end up being the way I am forever; that girl that can’t seem to get a grip on anything, never understanding, and when I die, I will die alone. No one understands me...
No one ever will.
Dropping down onto the seats, I pulled out my magazine and started reading. I listened to the bustling noise of other students passing by, clearly hearing every word of each conversation. They had good summers, by the sound of it. Lucky them, they weren’t being chased out of school and town... well, in the way I was. I’ve already been to at least 3 different schools within the last 6 years of my education. Each school was different, but they all treated me the same in the end; shunned.
But nonetheless, it always started out the same. ‘Merlin, what a beauty’, ‘who are her parents?’, ‘who’s lucky enough to have her?’. If I had my choice, I would rather be average, but because of him, I can’t be. Because of him, I have soft, faintly-tanned, carefully chiselled features that no other girl has, I have the shapes and curves all girls seem to long for. My eyes, though, seem to get everyone. I have seen people with golden eyes, yet my ‘piercing, violet eyes’ seem to get everyone in one way or another.
I flipped the page in my magazine, listening to conversations outside. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a group of people standing outside my compartment door. They were whispering to one another, but I heard them.
“Come on, there’re probably empty compartments further back.”
“This is far enough back, Ronald. Honestly, it’s not like Malfoy’s in there.”
There was an awkward silence, and then it continued with another boy speaking. “Mione’s right, Ron, it doesn’t matter. We’ve met new people before, like Luna for example...”
“And look how that one turned out!”
“Ron...” the girl, ‘Mione’, growled.
“Come on, the last time we went into a compartment with one person, it was Lupin.”
How come that name seemed so familiar to me?
“It’s only a few hours anyways. Don’t make such a fuss about it anyways; what’s your problem?” the girl snapped, still whispering.
“I just have a bad feeling about this...”
Ha!
“What? About returning to Hogwarts? I don’t blame you, it’s still unsafe anywhere in the world right now, but...”
“Shut up you two!” the other boy cut in, his voice raised slightly. “We can talk about this later if you must, but can’t we just sit down for now? Ginny will be here soon enough, and if we don’t get a compartment, well you know how that went last time...”
After another silence, the compartment door slid open slowly. I didn’t even look up at the raven-haired, emerald eyed boy that stuck his head inside.
“Are those seats taken?” he asked.
“Nope,” I responded casually, flipping the page in my magazine. I would’ve preferred a compartment to myself, honestly, but if these people have to, I can put up with it.
The boy pushed the door open, and two others behind him entered as well. I glanced up as they placed their things out of the way. Blazing, firey hair that hung rather limply as if it had not been cut for a long while caught my eyes. Even I knew who this boy was, and I didn’t even know his name. Who doesn’t know the Weasleys?
Before I could get a look at the girl, I looked back down as they turned around and sat down in the seats across from me. They seemed uncomfortable; wary to speak because of my presence. The Weasley, Ron I’m sure, turned to the raven-haired boy and whispered to him, unaware that I could hear him.
“Really, Harry, I don’t think...”
“Shut up, Ron,” Harry cut him off quietly. I could feel his intense, green eyes on me. I shifted slightly under his gaze, just as uncomfortable as he and his friends were.
“How was your summer, Harry?” the girl, ‘Mione’, asked, her voice still hushed.
“You can speak up, it won’t bother me,” I finally spoke. I looked up at them and into Harry’s eyes. He appeared taken aback as he looked into my violet eyes. His two friends were just as surprised as he was.
“So... are you new?” the girl, Mione, asked.
“Yeah,” I responded curtly.
“Where’d you transfer from?”
“Zapharnen Institute of Wizardry,” I responded simply.
“Where’s that?” Ron asked, his tone blunt. Mione elbowed him sharply.
“It’s a small school in Scotland,” I responded, turning my eyes onto him. He seemed to shrink under my gaze. “Not as big as... Durmstrang, for example. That place is probably two-thirds the size of where I came from.”
“Have you been to Durmstrang as well?” Harry asked, surprised.
I looked back at him and elusively responded, “I’ve been to many schools.”
“Got kicked out? What’d you do?”
“For goodness sake, Ronald...”
“It’s alright,” I cut the girl off. My eyes fell back on Ron. “No, I wasn’t kicked out, I left each one.”
When silence came in response, I went back to my magazine. As I flipped the page, the compartment door slid open. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a rather short girl with bright, red hair; another Weasley.
“Honestly, I turn around to just to say goodbye to mum and I turn back and you’re gone!” she snapped. I felt her eyes fall onto me, and she was silent. “Hello...?”
“Hi,” I responded as I flipped my page. Before another word could be spoken, the train started moving. This would be one long trip... Getting my ramble out of the way first
Lol, it's a nice name
I grew to like the name Cody when I met a councellor at the second camp I went to in the summer. (he was the counsellor of the 'man cabin', which was the only boys cabin. He answered questions we wrote about Christianity in general, since it was a Christian camp, and when he answered my question he said 'Whoever wrote this question is really smart'. Of course, he didn't know it was me but I was like 'sweet! Only time he said it that week!).
And it had to be with a C cause I knew 2 guys named Kody and they were total annoying idiots and probably still are. Quote:

Yeah, I own all three books. I got Twilight first in mid-September, read it all in a week. Got New Moon and Eclipse two weeks later and I read BOTH books in under 5 days. I loved Eclipse the most honestly - New Moon was too boring and Twilight seemed a bit slow (but obviously best cause it was first of the series).
Have you read the sneak peek to Midnight Sun on Stephenie Meyer's website? Midnight Sun is Twilight from Edward's point of view!
And Breaking Dawn (the 4th book of the Twilight 'saga') is most likely coming out next fall. Can't wait for that either!
And to think only 5 months ago I said 'I hate vampire stories - there's NO WAY I'll EVER read Twilight!'... Now I'm obsessed xD Quote:
I want to know more of this Cody person...
Believe me, you'll learn more about him and his past with Deanne as the story progresses
Especially in the chapter where Deanne tells her real life story with the secret and story behind that. Cody's involved a lot in her life before Hogwarts.
I'll update in a few days - not too long, I promise! (cause I already finished the story and am a bit into the sequel actually, it's just a matter of getting posts up, which has to be when I'm not feeling lazy which is basically the word describing my life...). Glad you all liked the update!!

| Bleh, sorry for not posting...
Funny, I'm not even busy, I'm just bored of the computer. I've been wasting my days doing the occasional homework and other stuff... that's about it. I spend a few hours after school hanging out with friends (which dwindles to friend after a short bit), and the rest of the day at home is T.V and homework, sometimes reading
So yeah, I'ma ctually at school right now, so I can't post... but I'll post... later tonight or tomorrow I suppose.
PROBABLY a double post, I dunno. Depends on my mood XD
So yeah... sorry again
~Sarah
P.S: Yes, there will be some more flashbacks... I'm sure. Don't remember anymore

I used a joke from the Twilight series within the first few paragraphs. If you read the series, you’ll know it And another term from Twilight, ‘coven’. It’s a group of vampires (which is rare since vampires are usually... independent, but whatever).
P.S: First few paragraphs are for all you guys that wanna know more about Cody. More is revealed later, but there's a fair bit here now. Well, enough I suppose
And honestly, if you haven't assumed this secret yet... (don't post it, I'm just saying in your mind ).
Enjoy! xD I'll post tomorrow since I haven't posted in a few days and am too lazy to do all the paragraph spacing another time today. Chapter 6
Draco’s Blood
I sat through my classes, absentmindedly doodling on a piece of parchment. Last night’s encounter with my old en... with someone from my past, really shook me. I could never evade him, and no matter what he would never leave me. Because of him, I’ve been switching schools, because of him... I’m different. Each school I’ve gone to, he’s followed me. I don’t know how he did it, but he managed to survive living off of the occasional muggle, never anyone from school. Only once he made that mistake, but I couldn’t care less – I hated the girl he picked so it wasn’t much of a loss.
Back before things changed, we were in love. I’ve heard stories about how vampires find one human that has a more... appetizing scent, but I never imagined that vampires existed until he told me. He did well controlling himself, I must admit. But things got out of hand, and I tried to get away, something he said I should do (‘I’m too dangerous’ was his excuse. I knew he was), but I couldn’t keep him out of my mind. Before I could go and find him, he found me. He was different when he returned; he had called himself a vegetarian, a vampire that had chosen a path that involved animal blood, not human. When he found me, that changed. He left the coven he had lived with for decades; he said he had been unable to live with them anyways, since I left.
He was the only one that knew my secret. Because of that, he threatened to blackmail me using it. You can only guess what happened after we would have a big fight. I kept leaving countries to go to different schools, but every place I went to he would find me. He’s become a leech, and I don’t mean that ironically; he’d stick to me and not let go. He never got the hint; I don’t want him around, and I certainly don’t need him.
“Deanne?”
I ignored the voice, it sounded too much like Cody’s for my liking.
“Dee!”
I snapped my head towards the source of the whisper, as I assumed it was. I glared at Malfoy and snarled under my breath, “Don’t you dare call me that again.”
“Ms. Lyon?”
I looked up and saw Snape sneering.
“Yes?”
“Do you have your answer? Finally?”
The Slytherins, except for Malfoy, snickered.
“Might you repeat the question?”
“You have heard it three times. What is that muggles say...? ‘Third time’s the charm’?” Snape drawled.
“Not like I’d know,” I muttered.
“You don’t know the answer?” the corner of Snape’s mouth twitched as it grew into a cruel, cold smile.
I glared. “You asked me what the muggle saying it. My answer is I don’t know.”
“That is not the question I was referring to!” Snape snapped, his fist coming down onto the table. The Slytherins laughed.
“10 points from Gryffindor for sassing,” Snape added as he turned around.
I sighed inwardly, thankful he hadn’t bothered to ask whatever he had apparently asked three times... or was that the question? Argh, I’m so confused!
“If you mix your Sleeping Draught correctly, the colour should be silver and smell sweet, almost like the daydreaming Deanne.” Snape gave me a hard look as he said this. So that was the question...
I saw Harry roll his eyes at Snape’s use of alliteration.
“Your ingredients are on the table. Get working, you have until the last five minutes of class.”
Silently, I read through the page of instructions; I felt Malfoy’s eyes on me as I did this. Once I finished, I took a ginger root and started to reach for the knife, but before I could grab it, Malfoy took it, stole my ginger root, and started to dice it.
“I’m more than capable of...”
“You take too long,” Malfoy cut me off. I gapped.
“Excuse me? Someone that takes over an hour to get up after falling on the floor is badgering me about speed?”
Malfoy, still dicing, looked up at me and glared. He looked back down and started to move his hand from the knife, but it was too late; he managed to make a gash all the way from the middle of his hand down. Before I could inhale the scent, I covered my nose and mouth. My eyes fell upon the red pools that stained his pale hand, and I felt my body tense. Not now...
“For goodness sake, Malfoy, one would think a 17 year old boy could handle a small knife...” Snape waved his wand over Malfoy’s hand, and the gash disappeared. Snape summoned a tissue box and dropped it in front of Malfoy, and walked away. Malfoy took a bunch of tissues and started to wipe away the blood. Once he was done and all visible proof of blood was gone, he crumpled the tissues into a ball and threw them into the garbage. He then turned to look at me, probably ready to demand why I’m not doing anything, and saw what I was still doing.
“Are you ok?”
“You just sliced your hand open and you’re asking me if I’m ok?”
“You look like you’re going to puke...”
“I can’t stand the smell of blood,” I responded.
Malfoy held his hand up and said, “There’s no more blood.”
I eyed the knife, which was tinted crimson. Malfoy rolled his eyes and cleaned off the knife and threw the ball of tissue into the garbage as well.
“Oh, come on...”
“I have a keen sense of smell,” I snapped defensively, my hand still over my mouth and nose.
“You honestly want me to wash my hand?”
“You never know where the knife has been!” I pointed out indignantly.
“What’s the problem now?”
Snape suddenly appeared in front of our table. I managed to make myself appear as if I was going to puke. “For Merlin’s sake...”
“That’s what I said!” Malfoy exclaimed.
“Take her to the hospital wing, Malfoy.”
“But...”
“I’ll understand if you don’t finish the potion. But you...” Snape turned to look at me. “Accidents happen; accept the fact blood can be spilt.”
“Professor, it honestly isn’t her fault...” Malfoy started to object for me.
“Take her to the hospital wing,” Snape repeated, pronouncing each word carefully.
Malfoy glared at Snape and pulled me out of my chair and led me out of the classroom. Once he slammed the door shut, he turned to me.
“What’s your problem?” he snapped.
“I told you!” I snapped back.
“That’s not it.”
“Can we please just...”
Malfoy sighed and started to drag me down the hall. I yanked out of his grip and took a step to the side so there were a few feet of space between us. We wound through the corridors silently and up flights of stairs. Within minutes, we were in the hospital wing.
“What happened?” Madam Pomfrey came out of her office. She looked at my green-tinted face, and then at Malfoy’s hand. She seemed to notice something was wrong with him, even if there was no sign of him ever having cut himself.
“Wash your hand,” she told him.
“Not until...”
“And what happened with her?” Pomfrey asked, looking at me.
“She started to get sick.”
“For no reason?”
“Because I cut myself. She claims she can’t stand blood.”
Malfoy was right, but at the same time he was very wrong...
“Wash your hand then.”
Malfoy headed down the hospital wing and through a door. Within minutes, he came back out, the scent of soap seeping through the fingers that still covered my nose and mouth. I slowly removed it from my face and inhaled slowly. There was no smell of his blood. I sighed thankfully and I managed to make the green on my face disappear.
“There. Why did you waste time coming up from your class to do this?”
“Snape told us,” Malfoy snapped. He stopped in front of me and asked, “You’re ok now?”
I nodded. He then pulled me out of the hospital wing and around the first corner. I once again yanked out of his grip. He reached out and took a gentle, yet firm, hold of my upper arm. I figured the reason he was doing this wasn’t just that he wanted to make sure I get back to class.
“I can walk myself.”
He ignored my comment and we ran down the flights of stairs until we found ourselves in the dungeon.
“Honestly...”
“No,” Malfoy said flatly, knowing what I was about to say.
“Really...”
“No.”
“But...”
“No!”
We made out way down the final hall and stopped feet in front of the classroom’s door. As I reached out to open the door, Malfoy grabbed my hand to stop me. I felt his body tense at the sudden coolness of my skin.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Well technically...”
Malfoy rolled his eyes.
“What?”
“Why’re you so cold?”
I looked back at Malfoy for a moment, contemplating him.
“In what way? Like cold as in how you are to everyone else or cold as in...”
“Like ice,” Malfoy practically breathed the word.
I was silent for a moment, suspiciously looking at Malfoy. I finally responded, “I can’t say.” Reaching for the door again, Malfoy stopped me. I turned to look at him, an irritated gleam held in my violet eyes.
“Why?”
“I’d have to kill you.” With that said, I managed to open the door and walk back into the Potions room, leaving Malfoy confused and stunned.

I'm still curious about Cody...they were in love and now she got annoyed by him? O_o
Not exactly... there's a bit more to it than that. It's never really said why but it's implied when more flashbacks and histories/pasts are revealed
glad you liked the update

I burst out laughing at one of the lines I used...
(all small stuff is ramble - don't have to read if you don't wanna) it was a line that one guy in my 8th grade class (way back when now), would say constantly, whether it’s about homework or just something in-class, NEVER about money (‘that’s cheap’). What made it funnier was his voice was all crackly and such because he was 14 (you should know what I mean), so it’d be like... ‘tHAt’s CHeaP’ (caps being where his voice squeaked). It was hilarious... that’s the best I can describe it online.
I miss Kevin...
Anyways, here’s an update. Hope you enjoy
P.S: Ha, I just realized, I use the title of the story as a chapter title in this story, and the sequel has its current story title as a chapter title... Chapter 7
Best Kept Secret
As the weeks passed, Malfoy and I finally managed to get over being tense around each other. When news of the first Hogsmeade trip circulated, he asked me to go with him. I think he took a blow to his ego when I said no, but I can’t be to sure, I had both Harry and Ron ask me within the hour, along with at least 3 others in Gryffindor I had begun to know. Everyone asked why, and I just said I don’t feel like going. Of course, this might’ve also been another blow to everyone’s ego when I said that, but it’s not like I know.
I was thankful that I hadn’t had any further encounters with Cody, but of course, I didn’t go out in the dark after that point. I sensed I was being watched whenever I was outside throughout the day, but I couldn’t care less about that. As long as he wasn’t harassing me in the ways he had before, both within this year and throughout the past 6 years at different schools, I was ok.
The days of September came to a close, and the rain assaulted us more than ever as the first Hogsmeade trip came around.
“Where’re you going?”
I turned around and saw Hermione jump onto the landing of the Common Room.
“Going to the library?” she asked. I was surprised that her tone was... surprised.
“You go there all the time; what’s wrong with it?”
“Is this honestly why you’re missing Hogsmeade?”
“No, I just don’t want to go.”
“Why?”
I shrugged. I didn’t want to tell her why I really didn’t want to go.
“Do you even have permission to go from your parents...?”
“I do have permission,” was all I responded. She didn’t know I about my family; they nearly disinherited me when they found out I was put into Gryffindor. I told them that I was told I’d do well in Slytherin, but I said no. I also added I was at least friends with Draco Malfoy, a Slytherin (I emphasized that clearly). What really made them accept this was me saying that I had become close friends with Harry and his friends. I knew this would make them accept me, they were more than happy the trio trusted me...
Or did they really?
“Then why not come?”
“Hermione, please, just trust me when I say it’d be best if I didn’t go.”
Hermione sighed, seeming to give up.
“Ok...” she sounded disappointed, but didn’t press the matter further. She then sat down on the couch, and within minutes was alongside Ron and Harry. All three left the common room silently.
The rest of the hour passed with people leaving. By the time it hit 11am, everyone that wanted to go to Hogsmeade was gone. When I knew of this, I left the common room and headed to the library to do some research.
“What are you looking for, cold one?”
I didn’t even jump when I heard Malfoy’s voice in my ear. I turned to my right and took a tiny step to my opposite side – he was inches from my face.
“Nothing in particular,” I responded casually, pushing three books back into place.
“Interesting subject,” Malfoy replied just as casually.
I shrugged absentmindedly and saw a book titled ‘Vampires: Myth or Fact?’. Without thinking, I pulled it out. When I remembered Malfoy was next to me, I pushed it back in quickly and pulled out a book under it, hoping it would distract him. Unfortunately, it didn’t. He pulled out the book and looked at the cover; it showed two people, one in the hands of the other. It was obvious who the vampire was out of the two.
“Vampires? We’re not studying that in DADA.”
“I know,” I responded. I looked at him out of the corner of my eye. “Is it a sin to be curious about something outside of school curriculum? It’s unfortunate that they don’t teach about vampires, there are so many nowadays.”
“No there aren’t,” Malfoy contradicted, taken aback. “The census showed there are barely 30.”
“And when was that census done?” I asked pointedly, pulling out another book.
“1970 oh... that’s cheap!” Malfoy practically exclaimed.
“SH!” the library scolded as she walked by.
“Yeah, Draco, shut up!” I whispered. He glared at me mockingly.
“Why’re you so curious about vampires?” he asked me, his voice now just barely above a whisper. He followed me when I walked over to the next shelf.
“I know more than enough about werewolves...” I muttered, shaking my head.
“So, you dislike werewolves, can’t stand blood... do you sleep in a coffin?”
I chuckled. “That’s a myth, Draco.”
“How do you know? Are you a vampire?”
“I flipped through some of that ‘Vampire: Fact or Myth?’ book, that was a myth.”
“Ok, do you know a vampire and want to know more about the breed?”
I stopped dead. How did he know? Inwardly shaking it off, I reached out to grab a book, but Draco stopped me by grabbing my arm midway out.
“You do, don’t you?” he asked me, shocked.
“You’re crazy,” I responded simply. I yanked my arm away, surprising Draco with my force.
“Was that guy a vampire?”
I stopped dead once more and turned around to face Draco. “What?” I asked flatly.
“That guy, the one that pulled you into the forest over a month ago in the dark... he’s not a student here, how did he got on the grounds?”
“All wizards and magical creatures can see Hogwarts, dimwit,” I responded, chuckling. I then went serious. “Why were you out so late?”
“I could ask you the same,” Draco retorted pointedly. I glared. “Who was he?”
“Why do you care?”
“You ran from him... I think, either you went so fast I couldn’t see you or...”
I pulled Draco down the row and found a closet. Opening the door, I shoved him inside and followed, closing the door behind me. I pulled a light, and the brightness shone off of his silver-blond hair. He turned around and looked at me expectantly.
“Yes, he was a vampire. Unfortunately, he keeps following me.”
“I’m gonna take him out...” Draco muttered. I knew he didn’t expect me to hear him, because he was mouthing the words more than anything.
“No, don’t!” I said quickly. He looked at me, surprised.
“How did you...?”
“Your lips are easy to read,” I lied. For once, I thank Cody for something; he taught me how to lie well.
A smirk started to set onto Draco’s face.
“Don’t even think about it,” I whispered darkly, knowing what he was about to say. “You complain about my skin being cold, my lips are just the same.”
“It’d be worth it...”
“Shove off,” I snapped. “Do you have any more questions?”
“Yeah, what’s the guy’s name?”
“Cody.”
“How long have you known him?”
I had to think about this one, I couldn’t really tell him how long I knew Cody, he’d think I’m crazy. “Since I was 13.”
“Did he follow you here?”
“Yes.”
“Does he follow you everywhere?”
“Unfortunately.”
“Is it because of him that you’re here?”
I was taken aback; how does he know these things?
“Yes...”
“What can he do to make you leave?”
“Blackmail.”
“Your dark secret?”
My eyes clouded in rage.
“You know?” I growled. This time, Draco was taken aback.
“No, I just know there’s something you’re hiding.”
“What do you know?”
“Nothing other than what you told me, I swear.”
I didn’t trust him this time, but I didn’t bother to push it.
“And how did you come to meet him?” Draco asked curiously, changing the subject subtly.
“That’s a long story.”
“We have all day.”
“It’s not something I wish to share,” I rephrased curtly. Draco gave me a pouting look. “No.”
He grumbled incoherently, but then asked, “What is this secret...?”
I was out the closet door before he could finish the question.
“Deanne!” he called.
“SH!”
“Her fault,” I heard him snap back at the librarian. He caught up to me and grabbed my shoulder and spun me around. “Is he the only one that knows?”
I didn’t respond. For all I knew, he’d go to Cody and ask, and my leech would tell him. Maybe Cody will kill him because he’s there. Actually, that’s not a bad idea...
I shook off the thoughts of how Cody would kill Draco if that were to happen.
“So he’s the only one?”
“No,” I responded, shrugging.
“Who else knows?”
“No one you’d care about,” I snapped back.
“Does it have anything to do with...?”
“Look, just trust me when I say I can’t tell you,” I cut him off. “I already told you if I did tell you, I’d have to kill you.”
“Wasn’t that a joke?” Draco asked, surprised.
“Why would I joke about that?” I pointed out.
An awkward silence started to grow between us.
“I’ve been rejected just because of what you want to know. I just want to survive at a school longer than a year where I’m not ignored, or if noticed bullied, because of it. That’s why I’m not telling anyone now. It’s best kept secret,” I finally said, sighing inwardly. “So can we please just... drop the subject?”
“Fine,” Draco responded, sighing dramatically as he finally let go of my shoulder.
“Drama queen,” I muttered.
“Hey!”
I stole his smirk and walked away. As I went back to the book shelves, I wondered about how he would’ve reacted if actually told him my secret.
