Alrighty, so this is my first go at a fanfic and I hope I don't disappoint. This story adds a character to the Wizarding World. It will stay as close to canon as possible but will have to adjust a bit to the new character. This story also shows a new side to Lupin. The main character is Sirius' daughter and Lupin's Goddaughter, which also brings me to the fact that Lupin wasn't ever homeless or alone... At least not in my story... EVERYTHING in the Wizarding world belongs to the amazing, incredible JK Rowling, except of course the character I invented. The locations, people, etc. are hers and only hers. So, here goes.

Prologue:
On a dark and misty night, in Surrey, a baby boy was being taken to his Aunt and Uncle’s house. His parents had just been murdered by the greatest evil ever seen, and he was now an orphan. But this is not a story about Harry James Potter, The Boy Who Lived. This story takes place a few hours later, in Shell Cottage, where a baby girl was being transferred to her Godfather’s.
A tabby looking cat with squared markings shaping her eyes stood on the corner of Shell Cottage and Sandy Lane. She had been on that same corner for a little over an hour. Glancing around, she shivered once and then rested her eyes upon a deserted patch of pavement right under a lamppost. After what seemed like ten minutes, there was a flicker of movement from a nearby bush. A man in long dress-robes and a pointed wizard’s hat stepped out into the light and clicked a cigarette lighter look alike. The closest light went out. After clicking it multiple times, the whole street was completely black. In the strange looking man’s other arm was a bundle of pink blankets with the softest sound of heavy breathing. The tabby cat transformed, for a second time that night, into her “human form.”
“Good Evening, Professor Dumbledore,” stated the witch as she walked up to him, her emerald robes billowing out behind her.
“Good Evening, or shall I say morning, Professor McGonagall,” smiled the tall wizard. “Long time, no see,” he chuckled.
“Albus, is it true? Did Sirius really betray them? His best friend, Albus?”
“I’m afraid the truth is not always easily seen, Minerva. We may never know what has truly happened. But, what I do know is that Sirius was found in a street with twelve muggles dead and only a finger left of Peter Pettigrew. He has been taken to Azkaban, and Amelia, going after him, found herself in the crossfire. I don’t know if Sirius will ever be able to forgive himself for that.”
“What will happen to Emily?”
“That, Minerva, is what brings us to another neighborhood tonight. I think it will be best if we take her to her godfather’s house. I think he will want to take her.”
“First Harry and now Emily; what has the world come to?”
“Ahh, Minerva, let’s not dwell upon the unpleasant. Once again, think of what has happened. He is gone, for now at least.”
“So, you don’t think he’s gone for good?”
“Only time can tell. Shall we get her inside?” asked Dumbledore, indicating the pink bundles in his hand.
The witch nodded, and they glided down the street. As they walked, they felt the light breeze linger in the air. The smell of the ocean swirled around them, stinging their nostrils a bit. Staying on the out-skirt of the street, they rounded right before stopping in front of a white cottage with flowers outlining the walk to the door. There was a dim light through one of the upstairs’ windows. Dumbledore and McGonagall made their way to the door, then knocked three times. While they waited, Dumbledore hummed a show tune and McGonagall stared at the baby they were about to hand off. They heard footsteps echo through the house, lights flipping on as they grew louder. The footsteps stopped and a man’s eyes could be seen peeping out the curtain. After realizing whom it was, a mediocre, straggly man with wild hair and deep circles under his green eyes opened the door.
“Albus, Minerva, what brings you to my neck of the woods?” asked the man, eyeing the two. He then noticed the pink blankets. His eyes widened and he nearly choked. “No, it can’t be. There’s been a mistake. Please tell me it’s not that, anything but that. They’re not...”
Albus held up his hand. “Dear boy, we can’t afford to lose you too, please calm down, Remus. Everything will be all right. May we enter?” Albus asked.
The man named Remus motioned for them to enter. After closing the door behind them, he made his way to the living room. Minerva and Albus sat side-by-side on the long couch while Remus took the armchair opposite them. Minerva took the baby girl from Albus’ hands and rocked her gently. Remus leaned his head back against the chair; he looked ghastly. He had turned pale white and was shaking slightly. Opening his eyes, he looked over at the pink blankets where he knew his goddaughter was hiding.
“Remus, we need to talk about a few things,” stated Dumbledore softly, but sternly. Remus nodded so Dumbledore continued. “Sirius was found in the middle of a street with his wand; twelve muggles are dead, but that’s not all. Not only muggles were in that street.” Albus was staring into Remus’ eyes with a sad expression. He felt sorry for Remus Lupin; he was about to tell him that he has lost all of his best friends—James, Peter, and even Sirius in some ways. Remus nodded, as if knowing what was about to be said. “It was believed that Peter Pettigrew searched for Sirius tonight to kill him for his betrayal against James and Lily. All they found of Pettigrew was his finger. Also, Amelia; she heard that Sirius might have been in trouble. She went after him and got blasted in the crossfire. I’m so sorry, Remus, I know this is difficult for you,” Dumbledore continued.
Silence followed after Dumbledore finished. Remus had tears welling up in his eyes. He couldn’t believe it. Prongs was dead. Lily was dead. Wormtail was dead. Amelia was dead. Padfoot was in Azkaban for causing the deaths. Everything was crumbling around him. He let a few tears escape before wiping them off. McGonagall took a tissue from the inside of her robes and sniffled behind it. She, too, was crying. Remus got out of his chair and knelt down in front of Professor McGonagall, looking at his goddaughter intently. A pale pink hand dropped out of the pink bundles, and Remus reached up, putting his forefinger inside it. The little fist closed around Remus’ finger.
“Albus, what happens to Emily?” asked Remus, looking up. He searched the old man’s face.
“She doesn’t have any living grandparents, Remus. She is your goddaughter, so I thought we might give you a chance to take her. If you do not wish to take responsibility, we understand and will take her to an orphanage first thing tomorrow morning,” stated Dumbledore.
“Of course I’ll take her,” said Remus without thinking.
“She is going to be a great responsibility, Remus, are you absolutely positive?” asked Professor McGonagall.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, Minerva,” stated Remus determinedly.
“It’s settled then. I will need you to sign a few papers, just saying that you will be her guardian and what not, and we will be on our way,” smiled Dumbledore.
Remus nodded his head and motioned for the old wizard to follow him to the kitchen to sign the papers. McGonagall stayed in the living room with the baby girl sound asleep. Flipping the lights as he went, the tabby looking man sat at the head of the table, Dumbledore sitting on his left. Dumbledore rummaged in his cloak for a second, then pulled out a long stick. With a flick of his wand, some papers, a quill, and ink appeared. Remus looked into Dumbledore’s eyes and had the feeling that he was being x-rayed; like Dumbledore could see right through him. The old wizard gave him a small smile, nodding a bit.
“Sign here and here.” Dumbledore indicated to two lines then pushed the papers towards Remus.
Remus signed the papers, and with the flick of his wand, Dumbledore made the papers once again disappear.
“Is that all?” Remus asked.
“Yes, that will be all for now. I believe the ministry is looking over Amelia’s will and then they will be in touch shortly. Now, I believe we will let you and your goddaughter get some rest. Best wishes and if you were to need anything, please don’t hesitate to send an owl.” The old wizard pushed his chair out and stood up. Walking into the other room, he stated, “Minerva, I think it may be time for us to leave and not intrude on Mr. Lupin any longer.”
Standing up, the petite witch looked over to Lupin and took half a step. Remus met her the rest of the way and took the baby girl in his hands, balancing all of her weight evenly. The tabby wizard walked his guests to the door and bid them a goodnight. He watched as the two disappeared down the dark street. Closing the blinds, Remus Lupin walked up his stairs to his bedroom, flipping lights off as he went.
Pulling out his wand with his right hand, as his left was preoccupied, he waved it. A blur of pink and green scurried around the room, and after a few seconds, the silence prevailed. Trudging over to the pink crib by his bed, he sat the pink bundles down. He pulled a green blanket, which was engraved with ‘Emily J. R. A. S. Black,’ over the side of the crib and tucked Emily into it. Sighing, he sat down on the edge of his bed. Taking off his worn out tennis shoes, he glanced at the clock. It was after 2AM. It’s been a long day, he thought. Turning the lamp by his bed off, he lay back on his pillows and fell asleep to the soft breathing of the other life that he vowed to protect.
Soooo, I was merely curious, and decided to count how many posts there will be left. And there are only 10 or 11 posts left! =/ I can't decide if I want to split one part up or not, that's why I'm not sure which. But anyways, just thought I'd share it with you guys!
Aren't you being a little silly? Who do you think ever stopped loving you?! It could never happen.

And that is the end of Chapter Seven: Battles of Life. That is by far, the longest chapter EVER! The next chapter is the last chapter and then there's an epilogue.
It didn't seem long at all. And by the way, I loved it. Beautifully written, and soooooooo happy Emily and George made up. So, I'm wondering what Draco is doing. Is he just sort of wishing he could melt into a crack in the floor. I get the feeling they don't like him very much, and he was left alone with them. I would be so afraid even if they did like me. I'm thankful they saved Emily, but, I'm so anxious for Emily and George to get out of there. I guess they should take Draco also. Oh but wait! There was something in the last post I wanted to ask you about. Let me go find it....OK after scrolling through a mile of comments (I love how everyone loves you) I found to my dismay, that it was on the previous page, and I'm afraid of going back and loosing all I've said here. It was something about Alice wanting them to help in the wizard war. Emily said they couldn't cause it would kill them? or something like that. What did she mean? Great post Emily. I'll be watching for your next.

Really? It felt long to me. And if you look on my chapter guides on the first page, it's the longest of the bunch.

Yeah, I kind of just put him in the background for this post, because I wanted to focus more on Emily and George. I'm sure he does just want to disappear into a crack or something, since some of them don't like him and all, not to mention George isn't too thrilled with him at the momento...

Ohhh, that. It'd be easier to explain if you've read the Twilight books, but I shall try. And this is just how I've always seen it, it doesn't mean that they really could be killed by wands, it's just what I believe. So, in Twilight, there are some vampires who have extra abilities, like Alice can see the future and Edward can read minds. And there's this one Vampire, who can, I guess we'll use a wizard term, Crucio you. In Twilight, it's a mental pain that you experience, not physical. And with how Riddle's father died, and the doctor's said that they couldn't figure out how he died, it was just as if his heart stopped working, because he was in a healthy condition. So, I figured that wands emotionally attack you (not all spells, but some), so the vampires could be harmed... Vampires can be harmed physically, but let's face it--if we were in a wrestling match with one, without wands, they'd kick our butts. But if you just flicked your wand at them, they could die. But that's just how see it. If it doesn't make since, let me know

Well, why are we waiting? We all want to see Remus {well at least I do, I'm not sure about everyone else...}
We are waiting for a certain something, which I will hopefully get tomorrow and can finish either tomorrow night or the day after tomorrow... So, my post will either be tomorrow night or Wednesday...
Where do you live? You seem to be on at 3:30am (UK Time) posting replies, or are you just a light sleeper?
Sorry, I'm rambling on again.
I ramble all the time. I live in the US, Eastern Time. I think I'm like five hours behind the UK. It was only about 10:40 pm when I posted that last reply, though sometimes I do stay up until 3 AM and then sleep in until noon or so. Do you live in the UK, then?

“We need to talk about Draco, George,” Emily said quietly. George’s arms tensed around her.
“I’m going to kill him!” George shouted. He tried to take his arms from around her and pull out his wand but Emily grabbed his hands.
“No, wait! Please listen, babe,” Emily begged. He stared at her, gripping her hands back. “He helped me in the forest, George. Instead of killing me like he was supposed to, he helped me fight them. We were able to get back here… He’s agreed to be a spy,” Emily whispered.
“What do you mean?” George asked in spite of himself.
“I’m going to modify his memory so he won’t remember everything that’s happened… He’s going to go back and say that I cursed him to do all that. I’ll use the Fidelius Charm on the one memory of the conversation we had about doing it. He’ll be the Secret Keeper so he’ll remember what he has to do. He’ll go back, help out Harry as much as he can from behind enemy lines.” Emily trailed off as she stared past George and at a rose bush.
“I’m sure he’ll be okay,” George said softly as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
“I know, I’m just nervous,” Emily whispered.
“Why don’t we get this show on the road so we can go home; Remus is pretty worried…” George said quietly. Emily nodded and they headed back in the house.
George shook Draco’s hand and said thanks for helping his wife, but he also told him that if he ever kissed her again, he’d kill him. Emily performed her charms and Draco left. Emily said her good-byes to the Cullen family with the promise that she’d be careful and stay safe. As she went up the stairs to Alice’s room to grab her things, she pulled out her mirror.
“Severus Snape,” she said quietly.
“What is it now?” he snapped.
“I’m going home; I need to make sure Dumbledore’s okay with that,” she whispered. Snape eyed her suspiciously.
“Why are you going home?”
“I found out that I’m pregnant… And I can’t put them at risk like this.” Snape looked away from the mirror and towards the portrait of a man. The man nodded and Snape looked back at Emily.
“He say it’s fine and to take care of yourself,” Snape said quietly, his face softening only a smidge.
“Severus,” Emily began. It was the first time she had ever said his name, much less without disdain. “I assume you know what happened with Lucius and Bellatrix… That you heard about Draco…” Snape nodded slowly. “We’re sending him back. He’ll be behind enemy lines; I was able to put a few charms on him. I was wondering if you’d…watch after him for me?”
“Yes,” he said simply.
“Are you going to be okay?” she asked hesitantly. He cleared his throat and nodded.
“You just…remind me of someone I knew,” he said quietly. Emily smiled timidly, knowing that he was referring to another redheaded witch.
“Take care of yourself, Severus,” she whispered. He nodded before hanging up.
Emily put her mirror away and slowly made her way downstairs with her things.
“Let’s go home, Georgie,” Emily whispered as he grabbed her purse and took her hands.
“Mmmm, couldn’t have said it better myself… Let’s go,” he said as he held her hands tightly and Apparated them to their house. George and Emily landed on their front step and he opened the door. She walked in and took her coat off.
“George, is that you?” she heard someone whisper from the living room. Emily turned to look at George with her eyebrows raised.
“Yeah, it’s me,” he said loudly. He put his finger up to his lips, telling her to be quiet. He winked and she quickly understood. He walked around the corner, a frown on his face. “I, er, couldn’t convince her,” he said quietly.
“I’m so sorry, George,” Tonks whispered.
“She is pretty stubborn,” Remus said with the shake of his head.
“I’m not that stubborn, Rems,” Emily said as she came around the corner, her hands on her hips.
“Emily!” Remus shouted, jumping up from his chair.
Emily looked around the room at her family. Ginny, Tonks, Remus, and Fred were there. Ginny squealed as she jumped from her seat and ran at Emily, engulfing her in a hug.
“I’ve missed you too, Gin,” Emily laughed.
“I’ve been so worried about you, especially since you stopped calling me,” she said as she pulled back to look at her. Emily side glanced at George.
“Wait! You’ve contacted Ginny more than once, but wouldn’t call me?” George asked incredulously.
“I couldn’t bear talking to you,” Emily whispered as she walked over to him. “It hurt too much, I’m sorry,” she said as she grabbed his hands. “I wish you would have called me—I’ve been worried about you ever since our last call,” he whispered.
“I know, but I just couldn’t stand it.” Emily wrapped her arms around his middle and kissed his cheek. “But I’m here now,” she said with a slight smile.
“And you promise you won’t disappear on me again?” he asked with a serious expression.
Emily cupped one of her hands around his chin. She stepped on her tiptoes and kissed his lips firmly. “I’m never going to leave you again, George. Even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t be able to. And I don’t want to,” she whispered. He nodded before smiling slightly.
“Good,” he whispered before he kissed her lips.
“Now that you two have had your little moment, can I please give my extremely missed sister a hug?” Fred asked. Emily and George broke apart, chuckling quietly. Fred picked Emily up and spun her around, hugging her.
“I’ve missed you too, Freddie,” she said as he placed her back on the ground.
Tonks stood up slowly and walked towards her. It was then that Emily realized how big she had gotten. “Tonks, are you—?”
Tonks smiled at her. “Yes, I’m pregnant,” she said with a grin as she hugged Emily. Emily hugged her in shock and looked over at Remus when she released her.
Remus stood up from his seat and shuffled his feet awkwardly. “So, you’re going to be a dad…” Emily said quietly, her eyes on the floor. She fidgeted for a second before Remus surprisingly pulled her into a hug.
“I’m already a dad, Ems,” he whispered in her ear. “But yes, we are having a baby,” he said with a raspy chuckle.
“Congrats, Daddy,” Emily whispered. Remus let go of her and kissed her cheek. She walked back over to George and kissed his cheek. They stared each other in the eye and made a silent agreement. They both smiled before turning to the others.
“Since we’re on the subject of babies…” Emily started.
“We have something to tell you,” George said as he wrapped his arms around Emily’s waist from behind. His hands rested on her stomach and she intertwined their fingers.
“I’m pregnant…We’re pregnant,” Emily said. Everyone was silent as they stared at Emily and George in shock. George kissed her cheek and her shoulder. Emily’s nails dug into his skin as Remus’ face started turning red.
Ginny squealed and ran over to them, hugging both Emily and George in one. They laughed gently as Ginny pulled back. Fred hugged them next, saying his congratulations.
“Congrats!” Tonks said as she hugged Emily and George kissed her cheek.
“Thanks, Tonks,” Emily whispered. Emily gently unwound George’s arms from her waist and walked over to Remus.
“Please be happy for me,” she whispered.
Remus met her eyes. “What were you thinking? You’re way too young, Emily!” Remus said, his voice raising.
“It’s not like we planned it,” she whispered. “But now that it’s happened, I wouldn’t ever change it. I love George and I love our babies.” Emily grabbed Remus’ hand and held it in both of hers. “Please be happy for us.”
“Babies? Twins?” he asked quietly. Emily nodded slowly. His eyes glanced down at her stomach. Emily placed his hand around her belly.
“Say hello to your grandchildren,” she whispered as a tear fell down her cheek.
Remus looked up at her and wiped her tear with his other hand before pulling her into a hug. “I am happy for you; I just wasn’t expecting it.”
“Neither were we,” Emily chuckled against his chest.
The six of them sat around the living room talking and laughing, celebrating. They brought out Emily’s radio and listened to music. Fred and Ginny went back to The Burrow to tell their parents that Emily was back. George made sure to tell them to not, under any circumstances, tell their parents that Emily was pregnant, and they agreed.
George and Emily were dancing to a rendition of the song What the World Needs Now by Aimee Mann on the 2004 channel of the radio. When the song ended, Lonestar’s new song came on the radio and Remus gently let Tonks, who was nodding off, lean against the armrest as he stood up.
“May I have this dance?” he asked Emily quietly. She nodded with a smile on her face as George kissed her cheek and sat beside Tonks. Tonks shuffled on the couch and leaned against George’s shoulder, falling asleep. Remus took one of Emily’s hands, his other winding around her waist as the music filled the air.
He called her on the road
From a lonely cold hotel room
Just to hear her say I love you one more time
But when he heard the sound
Of the kids laughing in the background
He had to wipe away a tear from his eye
A little voice came on the phone
Said, “Daddy when you coming home”
He said the first thing that came to his mind
I’m already there
Take a look around
I’m the sunshine in your hair
I’m the shadow on the ground
I’m the whisper in the wind
I’m your imaginary friend
And I know I’m in your prayers
Oh I’m already there
Emily pulled back to look at Remus as the next verse continued on. “What are you trying to tell me, Rems?” she asked with a frown.
“This is going to be our song, Ems,” he whispered.
“What does that mean?”
“I just need you to dance with me,” he whispered back.
I’m already there
Don’t make a sound
I’m the beat in your heart
I’m the moonlight shining down
I’m the whisper in the wind
And I’ll be there until the end
Can you feel the love that we share
Oh I’m already there
We may be a thousand miles apart
But I’ll be with you wherever you are
“You promised, Rems,” Emily whispered, tears streaming down her face.
“And I’ll never break that promise, Ems, but maybe you need to look deeper into the meaning of this song,” he whispered as he brushed the tear from her cheek. She faintly remembered a conversation she had with Tonks a while ago. It seemed like another lifetime.
I’m the whisper in the wind
And I’ll be there till the end
Can you feel the love that we share
Oh I’m already there
Oh I’m already
There
Emily looked deep into Remus’ green eyes as he dropped her hand and started walking away from her. He gently picked Tonks up from the couch and smiled at George. As he walked back past Emily, he kissed her cheek and then he left.
Emily stared after him as George made his way to her side. He gently took her hand and kissed her palm. She turned to look at him.
“I can’t lose him,” she whispered.
“I know,” he said softly. “You won’t.” Emily nodded as George kissed her palm again. She giggled lightly as he tenderly bit her finger. “So,” he said as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“So,” she repeated with a grin. She kissed his cheek and then pulled back to look at him.
“So, we haven’t really gotten a chance to celebrate by ourselves yet,” George whispered seductively.
“Mmmm, I guess you’re right,” she whispered huskily.
George’s lips brushed along her jaw, from her ear to her chin as she wound her legs around his waist. He quickly made his way to their bedroom as she kissed his cheek and his jaw and then his velvety lips.

OMG! This is such a sad and happy post...why do people have to die?!? I love Remus, especially in your story, and this post just makes me love him that much more even though he's breaking hearts...Emily's, mine, and probably the rest of your loyal readers as well.
He's not breaking my heart but he may be cracking it a bit...and yes I wear my emotions on my sleeve, with 5 sisters and your mum and only 1 brother your whole life it's just how it goes for me at least. Love the post Emily can't wait for more
OMG! This is such a sad and happy post...why do people have to die?!?
I really don't know. You'd have to ask JK Rowling on that one...

I do too. I wish I had a sister. I have two older brothers. Do you know how much it sucks to have only brothers AND be the youngest? (No offense to the male population)
Hello Emily. Thank you for getting Emily and George back together again. That makes everything all better in my world. I know George is happy and all but, I'm most thankful for Remus getting to get that load off of his shoulders.
