Default HoM: Lesson One

Another day, another History of Magic lesson. Stepping into the classroom not much has changed since the previous lessons. The open windows have allowed for some leaves to fly into various places in the classroom, not that Scabior would care enough to pick them up. That was a house elf’s job, or more specifically the nutjob caretaker’s.

The desks are arranged so that only two people are capable of sitting next to each other. A toy train placed on a circular track, strangely similar to another famous train sits between each pair of desks.

Up at the front of the classroom, Scabior is seated behind his desk instead of his usual stance of leaning against it. This is most likely because, placed smack in the middle of his desk is also a train on a track similar to the ones on each pair of desks. This train however is different from the others despite looking exactly the same. While the others all sit motionless on their tracks, the train on Scabior’s desk happens to be moving in a continuous motion around the track with a stream of gray smoke trailing behind as it.

“Hurry in, come on. Take your seats.” He would advise that they sit next to someone they would want to work with, but it was too much work.

Class Progression:
Question One: The Hogwarts Express
Question Two
Question Three
Question Four
Activity

OOC: Class will officially begin in, 81/2 hours. Please familiarize yourself with the updated classroom rules. Your characters can chat, dance, try to set the room on fire. Just remember Scabior is there, and SS and RPG rules apply. Class has officially started (i'll edit in whoever i've missed in this post)! Please no posts announcing late arrivals, as that will result in lost of points. If you want to join in, I encourage you to! Just act as though your character was there all along.

Louisa would've guessed Aspen was a hexing maniac toward her younger brother as much as she was toward Joao -Merlin bless his memory- and Louisa and who knows who else. So yeah, kudos for that.

With all honesty, the seventeen years old didn't catch up to the whole sharpening the edges and stuff until a few moments later. That was pretty good and professional. But she wasn't going to mention this out loud, she started working on her propeller instead. Taking one piece of the track and breaking it down to several small identical plastic pieces, resembling the propeller's blades.

"Grey blue eyes, pale skin, ginger hair, a small mole on the left cheekbone." She raised her eyes from the now-broken track piece to look into Aspen's. "What do you expect to see other than that when you stare at my face like that?" POKER FACE.

Annoyed, Louisa snatched the train from the girl and smacked it on the desk. She wasn't done with her task yet. With her wand she stuck one of the plastic pieces in front of the pointed front car, that resembled the center of the propeller. Then one by one, Louisa made small holes in the middle of those 'blades' and slid them onto the central part of the fan, eventually tapping its end to enlarge it into a small ball. With her finger, she nudged the blades and made sure they could rotate, then duplicated this propeller thrice. She placed two of the replicas on the wings, then the last one back under the tail.

Tada! Their Hogwarts Express Plane was done. "We should charm the wings, the tail, and the propellers to make it fly." That was a duh comment. She started tapping each one of the propellers with the animating charm, the little blades started to rotate. Then came the hot-air charm, learned in DADA last term. Louisa concentrated really hard on this one and after a circular wand motion repeated to each propeller, the train started to move, slowly and nonsuccessively.

SPOILER!!: The Parchment
The train stopped:
  • At night.
  • Not far away from Hogsmeade.
  • The lights flickered a couple of times.
  • A few bumps occurred.
  • One final big halt brought it to a final stop.

Transfiguration work:
  1. Transfigure the front car to take a pointed shape.
  2. Tracks to wings
  3. Last car to tail.
  4. Aerodynamics - smooth rough edges of train car
  5. Use Tracks to make propellers.

Spells used:
  1. Animating charm on propellers.
  2. Hot-air charm on propellers.

The 'claw pushed the parchment over to Aspen and motioned for her to add her own magical touch. Literally magical touch. They needed this train to fly, not just move.

"Did you just describe a banshee?" Aspen asked, all innocence and Odessa curiosity? She continued to stare LONG past the second question, mostly to annoy her, but also to frame her answer - which, frankly, was, "Nothing." Aspen didn't expect to SEE anything. She wanted to hear things though.

Aspen's attention flickered between the propeller creation and the Head Girl.

Then the hot air.

Haha. The Head Girl was expert on hot air.

That got another smile out of Aspen.

The plane still needed landing gear, so Aspen used some spare wheels and bent left-over pieces of track to make their train!plane some.

  2. Hot-air charm on propellers.
  3. Sticking charms
  4. Hover, levitating, and locomotor spells

"I'll probably get in trouble for this,"
but here goes.... Aspen concentrated on the train-turned-plane and cast a simple levitating charm on it. It rose in the air a few feet above their heads. To Aspen's credit, she didn't make it VROOM around the room - as tempting as that was.

There was always later.

"Now... how to get it to sustain? You add Locomotor and I'll keep it airborn." And think. Hmm.

"Maybe we should add different wings." Like... "I have a bat." And her bat had wings. And those wings worked really well. And they were WITCHES. So they could animate the plane wings... to be more animalistic, and less about muggle aerodynamics... hmm...

She had a point, yeah, but he still didn't know much about dementors and their capabilites besides sucking out the happiness out of stuff. He furrowed his eyebrows again and shrugged. "Sure." Kurumi was smart, right? They could go with her idea.

"Do you have any cookies on you?" he asked suddenly. She WAS the cookie girl, after all. "My brain needs more power to think this much."

Again with the good ideas. Milton was glad she was sitting next to him. "It's worth a shot. Do you... I mean... can you do the patronus charm?" he asked, a little bit quieter. Because... he hadn't managed to do that yet and it was slightly embarrassing.
Sure? Kurumi couldn't help but raise an eyebrow slightly at the Quidditch captain. Well, as long as he was agreeing...Kurumi supposed that was fine. She HAD been looking for a bit more of an opinion or confirmation...or something. Weren't Ravenclaws opinionated? Kurumi certainly had had her earful of hearing opinions from Ravenclaws, mostly girls, over the years. Maybe the boys were a little more soft spoken?

Who was Kurumi kidding. This was Milton. Of course he had an opinion. This just meant he was mildly disinterested, right?

Kurumi chewed on her lower lip anxiously. Patronus Charm...she could perform it, but she had yet to actually see what animal form it took. It was still just wisps and fluff at the moment. "I can....but just a non-corporeal patronus. I haven't been able to produce a corporeal one," she admitted shyly while she removed her wand. Even a non-coporeal one would have some sort of influence on the train if it were going to have any effect at all, right? It wouldn't matter if it had shape or not.

Hopefully. It was worth a try anyway.

"I'll give it a try..." she nodded, matching his voice's low tone subconsciously. Right, she needed a memory of some sort. Her first thoughts were directed towards last year, only most of her memories from the previous term were laced with pain of some sort. They weren't purely happy. Not even when Lewis and her and finally said those three words to each other. So that wouldn't work. She thought about what had happened this summer, specifically with her mother's spirit, and she thought that that memory was strong enough to work...only her wand merely produced a small wisp of silvery smoke that barely was enough to wrap around the wheel of the train.

Sigh.

But...there was...one more memory, one that caused her cheeks to flush a rosy pink instantly and for her to be completely unable to look at Milton. Wand at the ready again, Kurumi whispered the incantation and almost gasped when she saw the silvery smoke continue to flow out of her wand until it eventually took on the form of a creature. Not a large creature mind you, which was fitting for her, but a small hedgehog that wiggled its way over to the train and began to sniff it before the silvery creature passed through the train and vanished as it emerged from the other side.

Nodding as she repeated his idea. "Maybe create a likely one obstacle and place it in its path." Ok, now that was just stupid, it was travelling through Scotland, so mebbe it was sheep or something that were on the tracks. So how long would it take fer a herd of sheep te get off the tracks?" Yeah, and where were they going to get the sheep? Well this was just one hypothesis, "It would give the dementors the time te get on the train and search before the tracks were clear."
"I hate that we have to just take it on authority that the dementors didn't stop the train to get on in an official capacity," Vivi sighed as she rummaged in her satchel, finally removing some parchment, a quill, and some other odds and ends. She balled up the parchment and put it on the track.

"Dementors make it feel cold. The students on the train could feel them coming as they arrived, so it's possible they froze up the mechanical bits in some way. Let's try that hypothesis if this doesn't work."

She glanced across the room to where the Head Girl and Aspen were having a ball flying their train. Flying... trust Aspen. And really it was so odd that the two of them were such good friends.

Nodding he agreed with that. It really was just wrong. "It would make a lot of sense and make it sounded like they were just following orders." Yep, he liked that idea, dementors couldn't be all that bad, right? Yes they sucked happiness out of everyone, and made everything and everyone cold. But they were useful right? I mean they did go and guard Azkaban.

"I hadn' thought of thet!" he exclaimed, "Mebbe thet was what happened, they might haf frozen mechanical stuff in the train." That's true, the students had felt the presence and the cold before the train had actually stopped.

"Ok, there's something on the track, and the train's coming down the track. Would it be far enough ahead te be able te stop in time?" he pondered as he took and started pushing the train himself towards the parchment ball obstacle. "And would there be a lurch from when it finally stopped?" Would it be able to stop though, before it hit the obstacle? And for what reason would the dementors appear if the train had stopped for the obstacle. Would they have placed an obstacle there?

He was, probably, over thinking this. The train did stop in time, and then it started up again. The point was that if it stopped and started due to the conductor choosing to do so, then they needed to trick the baby train into acting the same way.

Vivi held up her hand and reached in front of Isaac, flicking the ball of paper off the track. "Obstacle is gone, and..." The train didn't do a single thing, not even when Vivi put her cheek against the desk and blew at it. Go go go go.

"What do you think?"

Funny how so many adults were on the train this time when there's usually none at all.

"...and you know," she said, a thought coming to her mind, "...the lights flashed on and off several times before the train came to a stop. Or was that when the train stopped?" The details were getting foggy now.

She shrugged. "I don't know if we could have just casted Locomotor on the train. If we could have just done that, the Headmistress would have cast it for us," she said. She stared at the train, at a loss for what could have started it again.
Nigel forgot about all the board of governors that were on the train. Maybe it was because he basically slept the whole train ride up to when it stopped and he sleepily took a portkey here.

"It sounds like Dementors were on the train with all the lights were going out. But that's impossible right?" He would have felt it at least.

"You think a simply reparo and an incendio on the boiler would work?" Nigel said shrugging. He did not care who did the spell as long as it looked like they were doing work. Nigel had no clue what made the magic stop working. But maybe the most simplest spells would make the train run again. Reparo did work on muggle things and incendio would work with the coal.

One thing he did not want to do is set fire to the whole mini train. Even though it would be cool. Nigel doubted Professor Scabior would approve.

Now back to the broken train. Cassia stared at it listening to what Ira said. And well, she had to try the poking. What if it was only a trick and you could get the train to move by just giving it a push. Well, it was proven wrong but trying was a good idea. However, Cassia still insisted on making sure the train wasn't missing any parts. The second-year squinted her eyes at the toy and started comparing it to the running one on Scabior's office. Pretty much the same. So once again she still hadn't figured out what's wrong with it.

Then Ira mentioned something about revising spells.Cassia got out her wand because she felt like it. She didn't really have an idea of what to do. But she was game to try. "I guess we could try a simple spell maybe?" Cassia offered trying to think of a spell to be used.

And because she knew this spell well and had used so many times she swished and flicked with her wand uttering, "Wingardium Leviosa." The train rose a couple of centimeters off the desk. Cassia watched closely hoping for it to make a sound or producing smoke like the Professor's one but it did not. She lowered it with her wand and made the train land back on the desk. Oh well she tried.

Wait did Ira say something about dementors. Cassia glanced at the list written by Professor Scabior. Mmm...so dementors. The Snake looked at Ira, "Um...do you think we should use the patronus charm?" The second-year asked. Now that was an advanced spell and Cassia wasn't sure she could preform. Actually she was sure she could NOT.

"You know.. if we had a time turner, it would have been real helpful." Ira said. Yeah, they could have gone back and done something. Unlike the ministry workers then. Wasn't it their job actually?

Anyways, Ira looked back at the train. "Simple spell, you say?" Wingardium Leviosa? Yes! Muggles used such trains remember Those levitating trains? "Hey Cassia! Good idea! But the only problem here is that.. it needs to move ahead. And for that we require magnet." Underneath, on the rails. At least that was all that she knew about those muggle levitating trains. "And also, some power o make it go ahead." Which all brought them back to square one. Meaning, what had actually gone wrong?

"Patronus charm?" Huh? How would it be useful? It would just banish the dementors, but what if they didn't repair the train?

Broken train! yes! So they had to repair it! Simple charm! "Reparo!" Ira pointed her wand at the train on her desk and muttered the spell, hoping that the train would start moving.

Default #1 wif West!
Arts TRANSPONSTER!

Oooohhhh, time to get started! Briilliaant!

Sophie eyed the train in front of them before turning to face West. Uh... they haven't officially met yet, so... "Hey there, West, I'm Sophie!" Griin! It wasn't awkward that she already knew his name, right? Not only did he play for the Slytherin team, he was also Theodore's best buddy. So yeah, Sophie already knew who he was.

Okay so, time to get to business! The third year looked around the classroom to make sure what side they were sitting on. Oh, they were right in the middle! So their train would be... before she could think of the answer to that, she heard someone saying 'Banshee' and whipped her head around, eyeing the other Odessa person with wide eyes. WHY WERE THEY TALKING ABOUT BANSHEES???

Not cool! Not cool at ALL! Sophie glanced around to make sure there weren't any banshees in the classroom - she didn't think there would be any, but... just to be on the safe side. - and then looked back at their little train thing. "Let's just get started..." Without mentioning banshees again! Eep!

Their miniature train was the one that had stopped just like the real Hogwarts Express had done a few weeks ago. Maybe that would be a little easier for them, since they were THERE when it happened. Or... maybe not. "Okay, so... if the train stopped all of a sudden, and both the magical and the muggle..." Ahem. "...methods sort of failed, we should start using spells to check if there was Dark Magic involved, right?" She said as she looked from the train to West.

Taking out her wand, she waved it over the mini train. "Revelio!" Poker face. Oh wait, there should be another word with that! But... what word? Sophie didn't know how to say 'Dark Arts' in latin or anything like that... The badger squinted her eyes, trying to remember what she had read just the other day... Revelio... something Revelio... "SpeRevelio?" She said, thinking out loud. That was... a general variant of the spell! Yeeah! That was it! Maybe it would work? "SpeRevelio!" She said firmly, waving her wand over the train set again.

....

Did it work?

Points for Ella for being awesome. Theodore pulled a rocket out from the packet and very carefully placed it on top of the train, before pulling out some spello-tape from his bag. Don't ask why he had it, Theo had ALL of the magical stationary in his bag. His mother insisted on it all.

And viola, it was attached.

Theo exchanged a quick glance with Ella, left a moment of awkwardness, and then pointed his wand at the rocket. Was it time for INCENDIO yet?

Why not?

"Incendio." Unbelievably, the spell had worked, but then again, he HAD actually practiced that one before. The rocket lit up immediately, sizzled and ZOOMED straight off of the track and into the wall. And then it was a heap on the floor.

Theodore was still clapping like a seal. "That was AWESOME."

Ella watched in awe as Theodore lit the rocket successfully and it zoomed into action. OHMYGOSH.OHMYGOSH.OHMYGOSH. They were SO getting into trouble for this...

"Well...that was definitely faster than before." Blink.Blink.

The third year wasn't sure if she was super scared or excited about the fact that the rocket had worked. She eyed Theodore and cracked a smile, BUT only for a moment. Then she was out of her seat and gathering the pieces...YES pieces...of the destroyed train off the floor. YIKES.

Bringing them back to the table, the third year placed the pile in the middle and looked at Theodore, eyes wide. "What are the chances of repairing this?" Good right? RIGHT?

....And Scabior saw none of this, yeah? WHISTLE.

...

.... Kinda.

He rushed over to their broken train, scooped it up and dumped it in the nearest dustbin. Then he whistled as he walked back over to Ella. "Follow my lead."

Le pause.

"Oh my GOSH, Ella. Where did our train go?! That invisibility spell we used must have worked REALLY well..." He said quite loudly. That worked, right?

Key work YOU...Ella wasn't a liar and she certainly didn't want to be THAT third year who Professor Scabior murderized for making a toy train explode with a rocket. MEEP. "If he kills us...I'm going to be SO mad."...and dead.

The third year was claiming temporary insanity, though. FINE. He wanted her to take a chill pill, she would. The small blonde sat back in her chair, taking one last deep breath before looking expectantly at Theodore. ...WELLLLLL?

There was a train. On the ground, broken. And although he hadn't seen what had happened exactly he knew who the culprits were. The only ones in the room obviously that did not have a train. Looping in behind the two he carefully listened in our their conversation a small smirk on his lips. "If that is what happens to items that you try to turn invisible I suggest that you brush up on your spell work. Or use it on someone you don't like." Both ideas seemed workable.

The train itself....it was smashed. Bits and pieces probably all over the place. "It's a shame. There were little miniature students riding that train too you know. What will their parents say?" Hmmmmm? Ella and Theo. Official Hogwarts murderers.

OOC:You guys have 48 hours to complete the activity before the class closes! Dooooo it. Fixing a miniature train will look good on your charrie's application to a Wizarding University!.

Cassia's eyes lit at the mention of a time turner. Actually is they had one right now Cassia would totally forget about the broken train and use the time turner for her own uses. Well, they don't have one so nothing to worry about.

However, even if they had a time turner Cassia doubted they could do anything. Come on the ministry staff couldn't. Magnet! Yeah, yeah. IGNORE.

And Messer? What's with the stuttering? Lifting her head to get a closer look at the younger Hufflepuff, the Ravenclaw gave him a quizzical look, "Are you okay?" She was wooooooorried. Did he choke on something? "Do you still want us to fix this train or should I tell Professor Scabior you need to go to the Hospital Wing?" She asked further, placing a hand on his cheek. ..the toy train made a clattering noise and she eyed it curiously. Was it fixed now?
Get a grip on yourself, Messer! Its just Beezus.

But why did she sniff him in the first place? Did she smell something bad coming from him? But he already took a shower before he went to class today. Sniff. Sniff. And now he's sniffing himself. Deep breath. "I'm fine." And the mention of Hospital Wing snapped his attention back. "Nooo! I'm good. I still want to fix the train." He can still do this and no hospital wing please. "Beezus, Umm. Do I smell bad?" he couldn't help to ask that after the older Ravenclaw cast The Mending Charm. Wait, did she just says Reparo or Repairo?

Messer heard clattering noise coming from their Hogwarts express. Were they succeed? Maybe it need a gentle poke then it'd start running like the one Scabior has.

Poke. Poke.

Milton shrugged again. It was his thing. He didn't care if it was corporeal or not, he just wanted her to do one, since he couldn't. "Go ahead," he said with a little wave of his hand. Milton sat back in his chair and watched her cast the spell... but nothing worth anything happened. Huh. Milton was about to speak up and tell her to try again, but she seemed to have caught on already. And why in the world was she blushing...?

But Milton was distracted by the tiny little, wispy hedgehog that appeared out of her wand and wiggled over to their little train. It was actually kind of cute. Milton watched it sniff around and investigate the train before it disappeared. Then the train twitched and jerked as it coughed out some steam. Milton leaned back and waved it out of his face. And... nothing else happened.

"Alright, well... That didn't work." Milton sighed. "Not completely, anyway." Milton pursed his lips and stared at the train. "I wish I knew how trains worked..." But he hardly knew anything about muggle stuff. Why did they have to use a muggle train? Why couldn't they have just put a whole bunch of portkeys past the platform and called it good? Milton tapped his wand on the table repeatedly, getting a tad frustrated. "Locomotor," he murmured quietly. Anything?

"I know. You're cool." Cos West trusted Theo's judgement on most things, and also because he had not observed any non-coolness. Yet.

He was pretty eager to get started, since it was kind of an interesting activity even if he doubted anyone would actually solve the real problems and stuff. West listened with utter seriousness and then nodded. "We should and maybe," He waited for her to finish casting? Were they doing magic for reals? "Maybe also we should renew the muggle-repelling spell quickly and stuff, so that at least while we're fixing the train no muggles would show up." Yes he KNEW they were in Hogwarts and it was a model train, but they were supposed to be thinking about it as if it was for real, right?

He didn't think they'd need to actually cast that though.

"Oh and!" He half turned in his seat, looking at Sophie and warming to the subject. "Maybe restore safety charms first, like what is on brooms, the braking charms and reversing charms and all that sort of thing?" West could talk about it all day but he had no clue how to actually DO those things.

He needed direction! His mind was liable to chase too many at once if Sophie didn't take the reigns. "Should we maybe go up and look at the working train and compare? And --OH I KNOW-- maybe its a sticking charm and we have to unstick the wheels, cos they got stuck to the tracks." The twelve year old was going to implode, from trying to go in too many directions at once.

Kurumi's jaw dropped and she watched the hedgehog make its way over the table and looking at the train. Okay, so the task at hand was that they were supposed to focus on the train and fixing it to make it move again...BUT SHE HAD JUST PRODUCED A PATRONUS FOR THE FIRST TIME!! Kurumi wanted to just jump out of her seat and go find Lewis right away - since the memory was one they shared - only one look at Professor Scary Grumpy Face took all that way.

Yep, Professor Scabior was not only the Heir of Slytherin...but he was also part dementor. Yep.

Biting down on her lower lip, cheeks still a veeeeeeeeeeeery rosy glow, Kurumi eventually turned her attention back to Milton when the hedgehog eventually vanished. Only she frowned slightly when he said that nothing had really happened. Minus the smoke popping out of the train that is. "Really?" she asked as she pursed her lips and reached over to pick it up. "Hey...does this feel a little warmer to you?" The train didn't feel as...icy as it had been when they had started. She passed the steam engine over to him for him to see for himself. "Maybe the patronus just removed the presence of dementors on the train? So now it is back to just being a normal steam engine? No enchantments?"

It was a theory at least.

"I am not too familiar with steam engines," Kurumi said as she looked at the train. "We use electrical trains in Japan. Although, how it works really depends on what time of engine the Hogwarts Express has, an external combustion engines and internal combustion. And, well, since it is a steam engine it needs steam to move. So...coal from a coal tender is fed into the firebox where it is burnt at a really REALLY high temperature," she rambled as she pointed towards parts of the train. "This heat is used to turn water, also stored in the tender, into high pressure steam....and then a lot of other processes happen, but the steam is what moves it forward..."

She stopped and looked at Milton for a moment. "One of my brothers was obsessed with trains..." In case he was wondering why she knew all this. She had always been interested in creatures, not trains.

She watched for a moment while Milton performed a spell...but did it wrong. Biting her lip nervously again, Kurumi tapped him on the shoulder. "Um...Milton...you're doing the spell wrong..." she said softly. "You need to specify what you want to move...not just say Locomotor..."

Which is why the train did absolutely nothing.

[/textcut]

Why was this girl looking back and forth between Scabior's train and their own? They definitely couldn't see anything wrong as far as the exterior of the train was considered, right? And the interiors, well, they obviously wouldn't understand that.

Anyways, Ira focused back on the train, willing it to move after casting her repairing charm. That charm should have repaired whatever was wrong with the train, right? "There was a sound?" Ira just blinked. Because all she heard was silence, other than the chatter around her. How come she didn't hear it? Granted that she wasn't as close to the toy train as Cassia had been, but still, she should have heard it. "Well, if you did hear a sound, then maybe we should recast it! Maybe it will repair the train totally, and fix whatever is wrong!" Ira said, nodding at the girl, "Lets do it together...."

Ira watched as Cassia accio'd the train. And the train moved! It MOVED but came to a stop near Cassia. "That is a stubborn train!"

Then thinking a bit and frowning, Ira said, "This is a steam engine train, yeah?" The kind that were used by muggles ages ago. "So maybe we should do the reparo charm and then.." She had meant to say steam, but then how? How could they produce steam and how to put it inside the train engine?

But then another thought. "Dementors make evrything cold, right Cassia? So maybe that was why the train stopped!" Oh yes, she was back on track, "Yes! No steam in cold! And no steam means dead engine! So the train stopped!"

Vickers eyes flitted between the moving train on the Professor's desk and the one on the tracks, which is obviously not moving. Can it really be that simple that the moving spell wore off, or that someone took it off? Giving a small shrug he pointed his wand at the train and uttered "Locomotor Locomotive...."

..... and the train didnt move. Not by an inch.

SPOILER!!: The Parchment
The train stopped:
  • At night.
  • Not far away from Hogsmeade.
  • The lights flickered a couple of times.
  • A few bumps occurred.
  • One final big halt brought it to a final stop.

Transfiguration work:
  1. Transfigure the front car to take a pointed shape.
  2. Tracks to wings
  3. Last car to tail.
  4. Aerodynamics - smooth rough edges of train car
  5. Use Tracks to make propellers.
  6. Landing gear attached

Spells used:
  1. Animating charm on propellers.
  2. Hot-air charm on propellers.

So they could animate the plane wings... to be more animalistic, and less about muggle aerodynamics... hmm...

Giving her a very annoyed look, Louisa pursed her lips ignoring the banshee comment. Not funny and not worth arguing over. "That just makes your staring worse." If she didn't expect to see anything. Not that Aspen cared about that, clearly.

Her fingers tapped the desk nervously as the other girl made more adjustments to their train!plane, then making it hover over their heads. Louisa took her wand out and cast the Locomotor charm, the train responded almost immediately. "You have a bat as pet?!" She lost her concentration as it was her turn to stare.

Well... that wasn't very unlikely of such a dark girl if you really think of it. "Bat wings. That'll just make it look like a mechanical Thestral. Morbid. Bound to bring bad luck." And eventually fall. Which will lead to the parachute escape. Heh heh heh, sounded pretty brilliant. "Not a bad idea, though. We can transfigure those front wings into bat's." See, Louisa agreed to a LOT of the Odessa's ideas. Not only because they were agree-able but also she liked her body parts to stay intact for her NEWTs. So there...

The train itself....it was smashed. Bits and pieces probably all over the place. "It's a shame. There were little miniature students riding that train too you know. What will their parents say?" Hmmmmm? Ella and Theo. Official Hogwarts murderers.
... Rude.

"Actually, professor. We were doing really well and we got our train moving and everything..." But then they added the rocket and it all went to pot from there. Theo ruffled his stupid notes together to show Professor Scabior every step of their activity. And yes, they were messy notes.

Text Cut: notes

Locomotor - failed cos Ella didn't cast it right
Incendio - failed cos Ella said no
Hot air charm - worked
Reparo - worked like a charm
Locomotor - take two and it worked
Rockets?
Invisibility spell

O_____o

There were mini people on the train?

"Well we wouldn't have added a rocket if we knew innocent people were on there." Was he missing something? Were there ACTUAL living beings on these trains? Everyone else needed warning! MEEEEP.

Poke. Poke.
"Are you really sure that you're fine?" The Ravenclaw asked again. She was very worried about the younger Hufflepuff right now. If he wasn't feeling well, then they'd might as well call off their task, she wouldn't mind. He was more important.

Beezus lightly brushed her thumb against Messer Edvard's cheek. Then she heard him ask her if he smelled bad. Beezus blinked at him. So he noticed her sniffing, hmm? Then she giggled shyly. "No Edvard. Of course not.. You," she did the thumb gesture again. "..You actually smell nice." You smell so good! You're intoxicating! Beezus snatched her hand away and rubbed her nape. "..I am very interested to know what perfume you're wearing.."

Gosh..her cheeks were burning! It was like she was admitting that she liked admired him!

The clatter from the train became louder that she suddenly snatched her hand away from his face and turned her full attention on the train. Frowning, she eyed it curiously. "What's happening to it?" Beezus mumbled.

Yet even before somebody could give her an answer....

The toy train began to emit ear-splitting noises!

EEEYAAAAAAKKREEEEEEEEEYAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!

"Awww!" she yelped, immediately bringing her hands to cover her ears as she looked at her partner with pleading eyes. Make it stop...my ears....it'll bleed!

"Don't worry about me. I'm fine." He assured the Ravenclaw with a BIG grin, hopefully that'd convinced her.

Messer could feel that he was turning pink when Beezus's thumb brushed on his cheek. He was prepared with a 'Yes, you smell bad, Messer' from the older girl but he didn't expect her to say that he smell nice. He was pretty sure that he and the Hogwarts express have the same crimson color now. "Erm. Thanks." he looked around awkwardly. Why would Beezus interested with his perfume? "And. Umm. I don't use any perfume." he told her. "Only soap." If that count.

Back to the more important thing right now, their toy train. "I don't know." Obviously his poking method didn't work as well as he thought it'd be. And suddenly there's a LOUD ear-splitting noises coming from it. They need to do something and fast. He pointed his wand to the toy train and cast the first spell that came to his head.

"Finite!"

To his relieve the Counter-Spell worked. The ear-splitting noises coming from their toy train gone. Fiuh. His eyes went from the train to his partner, she had her hands covering her ears. "Beezus, are you okay? Do you want to go and see the healer?"

So obviously Ira didn't hear the sound the train made. Could it possible that Cassia imagined the sound? Actually she does usually imagine stuff but now wasn't really the time and she had been concentrating. So how could she be sure? "I did hear a very faint sound," Cassia said. Maybe next time they should do the spell together and pay close attention if there was sound.

"It is stubborn." Cassia frowned. She glanced at Theo and his partner who apparently ruined their train. Cassia felt like doing the same thing actually. She couldn't blame them though they didn't seem to have done it on purpose.

Cassia nodded when Ira mentioned the steam engine, "True!" Good they were having ideas and that was a very good thing hopefully they're in the right track. "Yeah you need heat in order to produce steam…..hot water…burning.." Cassia mused mainly to herself though her voice was audible. And Cassia remembered that in DADA last term they learned that Dementors made the atmosphere around them cold. "Yeah probably the engine got cold and stopped working." Cassia said to Ira now. But how were they going to heat the engine?

"We could incendio," The second-year offered. "But that will likely burn the train." Not that she cared much but they were supposed to make it work not turn it into ashes. "So we heat it. Then repair it. And then we could try that Locomotor spell perhaps." Cassia said looking at Ira questioningly. Did the older lioness agree?

Cassia held her wand up. "Ok we don't have to do the spell on the train." She got a couple of blank parchments from her bag and crumpled them. "We could light those in fire and get them near the train," She said . "Though we won't be able to hold them. So I'll light them and you levitate them near the train." You know Cassia couldn't do both of them.

"Incendio." Cassia uttered and the crumpled parchment caught fire. Now it was Ira's part.

Only soap? ONLY SOAP? Who was he kidding? He only used soap and he smelled that goooooooood?! What did he use as soap, a variant mixture of chamomile, violets, magnolia and night blooming jasmine? Yeah, he just earned an eyebrow raise from her.

Then off to the train..

ARGH. MERLIN. ARGH. JUST...MERLIN. ARGH. ARGH.

The Hufflepuff had managed to stop the crazy toy from screeching but Beezus could still hear the ringing in her ears. Stupid mending spell, not working properly. It might've thought it was a mermaid-shriek conjuring spell, no? The Ravenclaw slowly pulled her hands away from her ears, eyebrows knotted in what seemed like irritation. "I'm fine." She shook her head to get rid of the remnants of the noise. "Yeah, I can manage.. I'll feel better in a while."

"..Urmm. Do you want to try doing the Repairing Charm instead? It seems like my wandwork can't be trusted."

They wouldn't want shrill scream coming from their toy train again, now would they?

Sure he might somehow borrowed Alec's hair products from time to time without his knowledge and as far as he knows it didn't smell. Surely Beezus had smelled a boy with more nicer smell than him, right? "And umm..Its Messer, Beezus." Yes, he heard her calling him by his first name twice but he's too stun to give a comment on that.

"Okay. But if there's something wrong tell me, yeah?" So he could ask Scabior permission to get her to the Hospital Wing.

Him? Doing the Repairing Charm? "Yeah. Okay. I can do that." I hope so. He's not really good with Charm but he could try. Please, please, please I beg you wand don't mess this up. He doesn't want to look stupid in front of Beezus.

"Reparo!" Nothing.

"Reparo!" Still nothing. It didn't move not by an inch.

"Umm. Do you think that maybe the train got too cold from the snow?" Since its snowing on September 1st 2048 when the train stopped/crashed.

So casting the Locomotor spell didn’t work. Vickers leaned his head lower and further back to get a good look at the wheels. They look functional. And just to be doubly sure he picked up the train and ran his hand along the underside of the wheels-- they were rolling. So the wheels should work.

He replaced the train back on its tracks. Pause. He knows well enough that trains need more than just wheels to move, at least Muggle trains. So with a bit more poking around with the train “hood” he manages to flip it open….

It had engine parts!

But they werent assembled together. Huh.

"What do you think?"
"Ok, so it must not haf been an obstacle, the train's still not up and going." Yep, obvious, because if that was it, it would have moved, right? The professor definitely wanted them to think on this one, not simple fix as this. Well if nothing else worked 'reparo' might hopefully get the train moving if the frozen mechanical parts thing didn't work!

"Let's try yer idea of frozen mechanical parts." Ok, so now to make the parts frozen right? "So the train's going along, and as the dementors begin appearing parts of the train start te freeze."

"We need te use the a simple freezing charm, but then once 'tis frozen...mebbe the hot air one?" There was his two ideas "Or did ye haf another idea? Otherwise which do ye want te do; the charm or push the train?"
