Default HoM: Lesson One

Another day, another History of Magic lesson. Stepping into the classroom not much has changed since the previous lessons. The open windows have allowed for some leaves to fly into various places in the classroom, not that Scabior would care enough to pick them up. That was a house elf’s job, or more specifically the nutjob caretaker’s.

The desks are arranged so that only two people are capable of sitting next to each other. A toy train placed on a circular track, strangely similar to another famous train sits between each pair of desks.

Up at the front of the classroom, Scabior is seated behind his desk instead of his usual stance of leaning against it. This is most likely because, placed smack in the middle of his desk is also a train on a track similar to the ones on each pair of desks. This train however is different from the others despite looking exactly the same. While the others all sit motionless on their tracks, the train on Scabior’s desk happens to be moving in a continuous motion around the track with a stream of gray smoke trailing behind as it.

“Hurry in, come on. Take your seats.” He would advise that they sit next to someone they would want to work with, but it was too much work.

Class Progression:
Question One: The Hogwarts Express
Question Two
Question Three
Question Four
Activity

OOC: Class will officially begin in, 81/2 hours. Please familiarize yourself with the updated classroom rules. Your characters can chat, dance, try to set the room on fire. Just remember Scabior is there, and SS and RPG rules apply. Class has officially started (i'll edit in whoever i've missed in this post)! Please no posts announcing late arrivals, as that will result in lost of points. If you want to join in, I encourage you to! Just act as though your character was there all along.

Minerva sighed, this was one of her worse classes, not because she didn't know most of the information, but it was so hard to stay focused. She had drifted into a daydream when Ariana has said something, oh it was time to work. Looking at Ariana and then the train she sighed, this didn't seem to be fun at all. "Well okay so we have to figure out how to fix this little thing based on that crash." She thought looking at it, "Now are we suppose to fix it now that it's broke from the crash or do we have to fix it so it does not crash like it did with that crash?" That part confused her.

"If it's to prevent the crash we could probably use Protego Caelum on the train to help protect it from weather. So then if the snow and ice were the cause of the crash that would help, but if we have to fix it based after the crash, we will be looking at the base of the train to see if anything is bent or missing then go from there." She looked at Ariana to see if that sounded correct or not, she really wasn't sure to be honest.

"Uhm... hi--"Merlin what was her name? "Minka?" that sounded similar to what he thought he heard minutes after they were thrown about in the train. He pondered her questions and gave a slow sort of nod "Well.... yes. The only spell thats really important in moving the train would be the Locomotor spell. But really can it be so simple? If it was just a spell then why not just cast it on the train again and not have us take the portkeys to Hogsmeade?"
Had he just called her Minka? Hmph. Not that she minded it sounded a little bit mysterious and like a little witchy spy name. Or something you would wear.

"V-Vick-Vickers? Right?" She asked slightly confused at his name. Why call yourself that. Really. "Its Mika by the way..." She whispered. "That does sound really smart to me - because the locomotor spell makes it go. And if it doesn't go after casting that then - there must be something internally wrong with the train. Like missing wheels, gears, or those lug-whats-its." Yes she was meaning lug-nuts. "lug nutters or something like that" she shrugged. She only didn't know the name because she wasn't a silly mechanic. Well, mechanics weren't silly.

"maybe repairing the mechanics would work? Should we check on the track to see if something fell? I mean it does seem strange that we are the ones going through the train for the reason it failed...maybe its because those big-wigs in the ministry couldn't find anything?" She wondered.

"So we should try repairing it - maybe making a list of all the spells that worked and didn't work on the little thingy."

Whipping out a piece of parchment the little girl began to make notes.

After she wrote down the list she whipped out her wand and pointed it at the train. "We should use a more definite form of repairo - like how they have occulous repairo and everything. Do you know if there is a variant for machines or trains?" Thinking she smirked a little. "Doesn't agmen mean train in latin? So like occulous repairo it would be agmen repario?" She had no idea really. Wait. Locomotor that would be the word.

SPOILER!!: The List

The train stopped:
At night.
Not far away from Hogsmeade.
The lights flickered a couple of times.
A few bumps occurred.
One final big halt brought it to a final stop.

Spells used:
Repairo

..... and the train didnt move. Not by an inch.
Mika couldn't help but following his eyes to the at Professor meany-pant's desk. What she was only twelve she could call someone that if she wanted to. And for some reason today she wanted to.

After all he did silence people at the feast.

Not cool Mister meany-pants.

He replaced the train back on its tracks. Pause. He knows well enough that trains need more than just wheels to move, at least Muggle trains. So with a bit more poking around with the train “hood” he manages to flip it open….

It had engine parts!

But they werent assembled together. Huh.

When he opened the train's hood she just blinked. Hot Tamale! There weren't any connected parts - that explains why it didn't just GO.

Dang.

She scrunched her forehead together and sighed.

"We should use connector spells to connect the engine parts together" that would help right? Repairing the engine was an important part when it came to fixing the little train-model.

"So um...welding spells like maybe locomotor soldar i don't know...this is strange. How did the engine just POOF stop working and just disconnect? Did we pass through a charm to disconnect things?" Or specifically train things?

"Locomotus Repairo" She tried hoping it would work. Maybe it only needed a good repairing?

Yes, he heard her calling him by his first name twice but he's too stun to give a comment on that.

"Okay. But if there's something wrong tell me, yeah?" So he could ask Scabior permission to get her to the Hospital Wing.

Him? Doing the Repairing Charm? "Yeah. Okay. I can do that." I hope so. He's not really good with Charm but he could try. Please, please, please I beg you wand don't mess this up. He doesn't want to look stupid in front of Beezus.

"Reparo!" Nothing.

"Reparo!" Still nothing. It didn't move not by an inch.

"Umm. Do you think that maybe the train got too cold from the snow?" Since its snowing on September 1st 2048 when the train stopped/crashed.
Hm? It's Messer, what?

OH. Nuh-uh. Not for her. Beezus eyes did a slow, sharp glimpse at the Hufflepuff as she replied, emphasizing each word. "I am calling you Edvard." Because that was his name. She liked his name and she liked calling him that. So deal with that, yeah Messer Edvard?

She nodded. Yessir! She was going to tell him. Once again, Beezus moved her hand to caress the boy's cheek for a few seconds as she offered him a warm smile. Don't worry dude.

As she drew her hand away, she watched him do the Mending Charm. It did not work. So maybe it wasn't really what the train needed to work right? The train got cold? "Yeah, probably.." So they needed a spell that could ease the cold? Fire eh?

"Oh, I think I know what she we should do to it," and without waiting for a reply from her partner, her wand's tip was already on the toy train while she said the incantation, "Incendio!" Whisps of flare spurted from her wand and before she could realize what had happened, the train was already burning!

O__________O

Oh, she was making it all worse! She was flailing due to panic, "Messer! I mean Edvard! Waaaaaaaaateeeeeer! Quick! Quick!"

Elise nodded at Professor Scabior, before looking around. Oh, great. She was stuck with the train from the time with the snowbank. Turning towards her left for the first time, she realized that she was seated alone. Oh, well. She wasn't the only one without a deskmate, was she. Prodding the train with her wand, she racked her brain for a bit to try to figure out the source of the problem.

So it had started snowing, and the tracks got icy. And then the train had just skidded off the tracks a little. So logically, the first step would be to melt the snow. Now, she just had to figure out how to. Possibly a hot-air charm, but the incantation was lost on her.

"You think a simply reparo and an incendio on the boiler would work?" Nigel said shrugging. He did not care who did the spell as long as it looked like they were doing work. Nigel had no clue what made the magic stop working. But maybe the most simplest spells would make the train run again. Reparo did work on muggle things and incendio would work with the coal.

One thing he did not want to do is set fire to the whole mini train. Even though it would be cool. Nigel doubted Professor Scabior would approve.

Sierra grew wide-eyed for a split second, but then in the next, she was just as calm as she'd been before. "You know, I'd thought about that when it first happened," she said, giving a shrug, "...but I don't know. It seems like we'd have felt it or at least heard about it by now." She'd never known dementors to be sneaky, and as far as she knew, the train hadn't gotten unusually colder...

She shrugged again. "Well, it's worth a try, I guess," and she withdrew her wand. "I'll take care of the Reparo..." She pointed her wand toward the part of the train that housed the engine, and then she swept her wand around in that almost-circle formation that belonged to the spell. "Reparo!" she said. ...and then for good measure, she pointed her wand toward the bottom of the train, the part that ran along the tracks, and repeated the spell.

Nigel's turn... She gestured for him to take a turn.

He's not a big fan of his first name to him its more like his father name than him and not to mention that most of his friends calling him Messer or Messy and now having someone calling him Edvard its a bit weird. But he's not going to argue with Beezus if she want to call him that maybe just maybe she'd calling him Messer again after the class over.

The older Ravenclaw need to stop touching his cheek or he might turn into the Hogwarts express

Ohh. She know what they should do to their toy train? Wow. He shouldn't be that surprise Beezus is a Ravenclaw after all. He heard her cast 'Incendio' on the toy train and it began to burn.

O_________________O

They need water ASAP! He looked around the classroom to find a water sources but he can't find one. "I can't find any water around." he said in oanic voice. Wait a minute. He's a wizard and he has a wand. Stupid Messer!

"AGUAMENTI!" A jet of water coming out from the tip of his wand and it made their toy train soaking wet. He picked up the now very wet toy train. And now what they're going to do with the train? They already tried poke it, the Mending Charm, burned it and soaked it but the train still won't work. "Do you have any better idea?"

HOLISTIC ACTRESS {X O} EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED

The parts to the train hadn't really connected when she had cast the spell. Maybe another good dose of spellness would help? She had no clue what to cast though. Looking around the room she saw people heating up their trains.

Heat.

Trains ran on heat. Well, old ones like this did.

Maybe? Maybe she needed to re-work the train. Change it a bit - tweak the little rough edges and make it more aerodynamic so it would run properly. She knew that only a steam engine would really be the best bet for the mechanics of the Hogwarts Express.

"We need to update the train - however we can't go electronic because electricity and magic don't go together."

After a moment of thought her eyes seemed to BULGE in her head and she squealed jumping up and down a bit. "I've got an IDEA. The gripping and gluing spells from last year's build a wagon class!" She was EXCITED.

She had read the spell in the books and immediately she swish-and-tapped one of the engine pieces. It stuck to the end of her wand. Tapping it to the other one she spoke. "Lentesco" there was a little sound of the two connecting. Making quick work of it the girl continued to connect pieces of the engine together. Once connected she could repair it fully so the engine could RUN.

West listened with utter seriousness and then nodded. "We should and maybe," He waited for her to finish casting? Were they doing magic for reals? "Maybe also we should renew the muggle-repelling spell quickly and stuff, so that at least while we're fixing the train no muggles would show up." Yes he KNEW they were in Hogwarts and it was a model train, but they were supposed to be thinking about it as if it was for real, right?

He didn't think they'd need to actually cast that though.

"Oh and!" He half turned in his seat, looking at Sophie and warming to the subject. "Maybe restore safety charms first, like what is on brooms, the braking charms and reversing charms and all that sort of thing?" West could talk about it all day but he had no clue how to actually DO those things.

He needed direction! His mind was liable to chase too many at once if Sophie didn't take the reigns. "Should we maybe go up and look at the working train and compare? And --OH I KNOW-- maybe its a sticking charm and we have to unstick the wheels, cos they got stuck to the tracks." The twelve year old was going to implode, from trying to go in too many directions at once.

Oh? Sophie was sort of impressed, even though she shouldn't be, that West knew who she was. She gave him a thank yooouuu smile when he said she was cool. So nice of him! Heh.

So West now gave an opinion of his own about what to do next. The badger nodded her head as she totes agreed with him about the muggle-repelling spell. But before she could let him know she didn't know how to cast that one spell yet, he was already speaking about other thing. Or... other thingSSS.

ksnflksfdnl whatwaaaaiittt!!! When West started talking about a LOT of things, Sophie managed to scribble the main ideas down on her parchment. Just in case.

She wasn't able to finish any of the topics because WHOA this boy was talking FAST. "Wait, wait, wait!" Sophie said gesturing for him to calm down. Breathe, kid! Breeathe! Okay. "Those are actually good ideas and we should try them all!" She glanced at the half-notes on the parchment. "But one at a time, yes?"

When West stopped talking for a bit, Sophie could hear professor Scabior telling Ella and Theo that there were mini students aboard! Gasp! "Did you hear that?? There are students in there!" She pointed to the small train in front of them. "They need to be safe before we do anything else then!" Sooo... safety charms first, riight?

Sophie looked up at the spell list the professor had written on the board earlier. "I guess for this part we would need the Shield Charm first? And maybe the Concealment Charm right after that." She said, still looking at the board. "What do you think?" She asked looking back at the boy. "Can you think of any more spells to add to this list of safety charms?" Like the ones he had just mentioned before thinking about all those other things?

Heh.

She did NOT want to set her train on fire or anything...no. That would such a hufflepuff thing to do. So of course Elliot WOULDN'T be doing that!

Covering up...Elliot was good at covering up...making her sisters look guilty at home when she was the real culprit...yeah, it was totally easy. But with magic, it was different. "Well, if it was magic that stopped it, doesn't magic always leave a trace?" Yes. no need to answer that, Hannah dear.

But Elliot was drawing a blank on what to do next...so...as a borderline Slytherin...she glanced around, seeing what others with the middle trains were doing...hmm...

Only problem? No on was having any luck. She glanced a the professor..."We are NOT asking Scabior for help...at all costs. I don't care if we burn this place to the ground..." she whispered urgently..no no no. he had yelled at her too much this lesson..and she didn't much feel like dealing with him.

This was frustrating..."Try Reparo." she said...maybe something in it was broken...maybe.

but it most likely wouldn't work...
Usually when Hannah hit somebody/something with her wand she had better results. It was frustrating to Hannah when she failed at something when she was actually paying attention and trying! They had to figure this out although she really believed that the scenario they had was impossible to figure out. If only they had been sitting on the right or left side of the classroom. They had nothing to go off of.

Hannah noticed that Elliot was looking around the room to see what others were doing. Normally that would be something that Hannah would do, but her claw friend beat her to the punch. Maybe she had more Slytherin qualities after all.

Yes, yes magic always did leave a trace buuuut "What if they did something to cover up the trace?" Like maybe they were really advanced in dark magic and they did something to throw whoever may be looking for dark magic off their tracks...that made sense right?

"Oh yeah I don't want to ask him for anything." That man had an attitude. Hannah had an attitude as well, but well that didn't count.

Reparo? Well it was worth a shot. It wasn't like she was coming up with any ideas. She flicked her wand and cried "Reparo." It looked like a light flicked on for a second. "Did you see that?"

"Reparo!" she said. ...and then for good measure, she pointed her wand toward the bottom of the train, the part that ran along the tracks, and repeated the spell.

Nigel's turn... She gestured for him to take a turn.
Invisible Dementors would be a scary thought. Nigel was not sure which was worse an invisible dementor or an invisible nundu. " I don't know. I have never seen a dementor. So maybe they can be sneaky." It was possible.

He agreed that she should do Reparo and watched her do it. He had no idea if it worked or not. But at least they tried something. Now it was his time to do incendio. He pointed his wand at the coal part of the train and said "Incendio"

He hoped he did the spell right and not set fire to the whole train.

"If that is what happens to items that you try to turn invisible I suggest that you brush up on your spell work. Or use it on someone you don't like." Both ideas seemed workable.

The train itself....it was smashed. Bits and pieces probably all over the place. "It's a shame. There were little miniature students riding that train too you know. What will their parents say?" Hmmmmm? Ella and Theo. Official Hogwarts murderers.

OOC:You guys have 48 hours to complete the activity before the class closes! Dooooo it. Fixing a miniature train will look good on your charrie's application to a Wizarding University!.

Ella jumped when she heard Professor Scabior's voice coming from right behind them. EEP! He'd definitely heard them talking, yeah? Though...heh. He clearly knew this was ALL Theodore's fault, at least the part about pulling one over on ze professor. Oh...and the third year was seriously impressed with Scabior's stealthy skills. He was a regular ninja or something the way he had snuck up on them. Perhaps he would want to join Ella and Hulk's detective agency?

Use a spell on someone you don't like? Hmm...Ella looked at Theo, considering this option. "That might be a good idea, Professor." She mumbled, a small smile playing on her lips. NOT that she would ever harm Theo except for in Quidditch, apparently, she was just a little frazzled at the moment.

Blink.Blink. Students...on the train? O____O B-but it was only a toy train! They...they weren't like killers or anything, right? RIGHT?

SPOILER!!: Theodork

Text Cut: notes

Locomotor - failed cos Ella didn't cast it right
Incendio - failed cos Ella said no
Hot air charm - worked
Reparo - worked like a charm
Locomotor - take two and it worked
Rockets?
Invisibility spell

O_____o

There were mini people on the train?

"Well we wouldn't have added a rocket if we knew innocent people were on there." Was he missing something? Were there ACTUAL living beings on these trains? Everyone else needed warning! MEEEEP.

And then Theodore was showing Scabior his notes and Ella tried not to groan. Mostly because she had done the Locomotor spell correctly the first time. As for the innocent lives that were lost because they had decided to send their train CRASHING into the wall...Ella frowned.

"It was wrong, Professor...we didn't mean to erm...harm anyone." Fictional or not. "...Butwhatawaytogo." Much cooler than a crash into a snowbank.

Repairo

Spells that worked?

Mika couldn't help but following his eyes to the at Professor meany-pant's desk. What she was only twelve she could call someone that if she wanted to. And for some reason today she wanted to.

After all he did silence people at the feast.

Not cool Mister meany-pants.

"Oh right Mika!" Vickers corrected himself hastily. He listened to her suggestions as he poked and pushed the small engine pieces in the train. "Well its a toy train model-- I've assembled toys like these before. They're Muggle made but Magic can make anything move the way Muggle toys cant." The benefit of being Magical eh?

He watched her try a spell and when nothing happened he spoke up "Its easy to put them together by hand anyway..." he shrugged casually and started to match the pieces together. "Oh maybe its easier if I make a quick sketch of what goes where... " he mumbled and took out a parchment and sketched out a simple diagram of how steam engine works "We probably wouldnt be placing any coal or water in the engine because that is the Muggle way of getting trains to move, but I do believe the engine has to be fully assembled for Magic to work the train properly." Makes sense right?

He brought out a few pieces and started holding them up to Mika and pointing at the diagram "This is the firebox-- its where coal is shoveled into for burning..." then he picked up a curious looking cylinder with pipes nestled within "... this is the boiler. On a train this is filled with water. Water is heated by the firebox and pipes collect the steam-- " cue pointing at the pipes "... the steam from the boiler leads into a main pipe in the smokebox--" cue pointing at a box still inside the toy train "--and the steampipe is connected to the cylinder and piston that makes the wheel move." He took out his glasses and slipped them on, then peered closely at the train engine compartment and the underside of the train "I think the main steam pipe and the pistons are connected properly to the rods-- and the rods turn the wheels of the train." So they wouldnt have to worry about assembling those.

"Good idea...." he said as he watched her assemble one of the engine pieces, which looks to be the firebox "I'll take care of the boiler... " he said as he tried arranging the pipes so it would line up against the existing holes in the smokebox and the various protrusions for when they would close the train engine cover in the end.

When that was completed he leaned back "Ok, I think the boiler is done. You can attach the firebox in the end there and if everything fits right the engine hood should close snugly around it."

She thought looking at it, "Now are we suppose to fix it now that it's broke from the crash or do we have to fix it so it does not crash like it did with that crash?" That part confused her.

"If it's to prevent the crash we could probably use Protego Caelum on the train to help protect it from weather. So then if the snow and ice were the cause of the crash that would help, but if we have to fix it based after the crash, we will be looking at the base of the train to see if anything is bent or missing then go from there." Well if nothing else worked 'reparo' might hopefully get the train moving if the frozen mechanical parts thing didn't work!

"Let's try yer idea of frozen mechanical parts." Ok, so now to make the parts frozen right? "So the train's going along, and as the dementors begin appearing parts of the train start te freeze."

"We need te use the a simple freezing charm, but then once 'tis frozen...mebbe the hot air one?" There was his two ideas "Or did ye haf another idea? Otherwise which do ye want te do; the charm or push the train?"
"Well, it's already not working, so if the cold is what did it... we don't have to replicate that," Vivi tapped the metal front of the train with her finger tip thoughtfully. Steam required water, so that meant that there had to be loads and loads of water in the engine. That would seem to make it particularly susceptible to freezing of the magical kind, the kind that could just ignore all the burning coal going on around it.

"I think the hot air charm is a good idea. I'll give it a try, and we'll see if that gets things moving again on the inside." She removed her wand from the holster and pointed it at the air above the train, focusing the temperature and strength of the blast a bit before directing the air at the train itself. She didn't want to go blistering off the paint if she could help it.

"Nice."...was all the Captain offered as affirmation. Meh, Dylan wasn't the type to go on and on about stuff. Could they just get down to business? No small talking? Yes, lets.

Turning his full attention back towards the train, he reaffirmed, "So, from what he can gather happened to the Hogwarts Express back in 1993, Dementors and their uncanny ability to suck the life out of things stopped the train." Yes, they both knew this...but it just made him more comfortable restating. "Do you have any ideas about how to spring it back to life?"

......IF only the train had a mouth and he could feed it chocolate...
Ethan nodded as the Slytherin boy gave a recap of their assignment then thought about the question. How would they spring it back to life? It would probably help if they knew how it restarted when it had actually happened nearly 100 years ago... Would that have been in the textbook? Too bad he hadn't read it. Maybe they should start with what they did know.

"Well... what do we know about dementors?" he started with the basic. "They suck the life out of things..." he reiterated. Yes, the other boy had already said that. "The Patronus charm chases them away... but I don't actually see any dementors so I doubt that would help with this." Ethan poke the train slightly with his wand. Nope, no dementors flying out. Good thing, because the Ethan did not know how to produce a Patronus. That was way advanced.

"Oh, I'm Ethan, by the way," he added somewhat suddenly as he realized he hadn't offered that information already. Since they'd be working together, might be a good idea to know who they were talking to.

He thought for a moment ast he classmates around him tried things like Reparo with no success. The dementors didn't actually break anything, did they? Maybe they needed to think outside the box. "If the dementors were what was responsible for stopping the train by sucking the life out of the mechanics then maybe we could put the life back into them with a cheering charm," he said, half-joking. Trains didn't really get sad, did they?

Oh gosh he really was dense wasn't he? Duh, of course they didn't have to freeze it, since it wasn't working already! Instead once again he acted like a bobblehead, and nodded in agreement. Ok, so if the train was frozen, then heat should unfreeze it right? He certainly hoped so!

Watching as she took out her wand and pointed it towards it Isaac watched as water started dripping from the train itself. His eyes widening he glanced her way, "Is thet s'pose te happen?" he asked as he watched more water dripped as she continued to use the hot air charm. That was good right? Did it actually mean that the ice was melting and the hot air charm was melting the frozen parts of the train?

That or it had sprung a leak somehow. What if he nudged it a little? Pushing the train lightly with his finger, he watched it move just slightly "I think 'tis working, jus' needs a little more."

"Could be the condensation from the steam froze on the outside of the tank, and now it's melting again," Vivi lifted the wand and eyed the little puddle. Their train had a piddling problem, clearly. "Or it could be a leak."

Although she doubted there would be two entirely different issues with their train like that. Didn't really make sense, did it? Unless... this Scabior just wanted them all to fail. Perhaps that was his tact.

"How about you cast a Reparo on the mechanical bits while I keep heating it? Should we go look at the working train to get an idea what we're supposed to be looking at?"

"Now what do I still have to do. Let's see.......oh yeh I have to cast the Locomoter spell, but that's at the end. Then he realized he still didn't cast the refilling vharm, so that would need to be done yet. So he brought out his charms textbook knowing that he would have a charms class after this. So he started flipping through pages to find the refilling charm. He knew he was getting close because he passed the permanent sticking charm. Then he passed Protego so he was getting even closer now. finally he got to the spell, but to notice that the incantation is unknown. So he just closed his eyes while doing the movement. When he opened his eyes, he went to the coal car. He opened the lid thingy to see that there was coal in there. "Yes!" he exclaimed.

Turning his head a bit so he could look more closely at the train infront of them, he chewed on his lip once again. "Might be." he said about the condensation, "Thet was me other thought though." Oi, a leak? He sure hoped not! That was just another problem to figure out, he didn't want another problem to fix. He'd rather have the train fixed and done right then, but apparently the professor didn't want them to have an easy task at it.

"Ok. Let's try the reparo and if thet don' work, we'll go take a look at the working model?" Taking his wand out of the holster, Isaac tapped the wheels, then the engine, and a few other spots on the train, hoping to see it start to move. Even a sign that it was starting to work!

Minerva felt herself blush at Ariana's accusation. "Sorry, Ari.. I... I was just thinking." shaking her head she looked at the train, hmmm if it was after the crash. Well if what was said was correct and it was snow that stopped the train, there shouldn't have been anything muggle related wrong. "Well the muggle way would to look at the frame work and all that to make sure that the crash didn't brake anything." she looked at the frame better. "If there is something wrong, we could probably just do a repair spell to fix anything like then. Then we could place the protective charms back on it to see if that will make it run."

She looked at the train now since this was just a small version would it have all the same things broken. She really wasn't sure. "I'll be right back." she walked up to the professors desk and bent down to look at the train. Studying the way the frame looked and the wheels looked for the track. She wanted to try and memorize the way the working train looked. Walking back over to the train Minerva looked at there train. "Well I'm not seeing anything, but that doesn't mean that the crash wouldn't have broken something. Would you want to try to do a repair spell on it?" She figured she'd let Ariana do the spell if she wanted to.

Firebox? She wondered why on earth someone would call a train mechanism a firebox. But she went along with it anyhow aligning the piece and carefully placing it near the firebrick arch and the firehole. It seemed to line up so far.

Oh this was going to work. She could just feel it in her little itty bitty girl arms. "Alright lets close her up and see if she runs." Wait a second why was she giving the train a gender. It could just have easily been male-train and not automatically a female train.

Next time she'd ask the train its preferred gender.

"So does it work?" She asked hoping it did. "Because I really want to get two hundred and more points for fixing the train problems...i mean obviously if they are having students fix it the people at the ministry couldn't do their jobs. Maybe we'll get promoted from being students to being student liaisons to the Ministry of Magic - Magical Transportation department."

The poor train had to be heated enough, and Vivi set her wand back on the desk top as she gauged their success. Had that... even worked? It was so hard to tell, as aside from the puddle, there was no discernible movement.

The Reparo, though, did seem to be doing some good, as the little train rocked a bit. When Vivi put her hand to the metal casing, she could feel the strain in the machinery, as if the train wanted to just zooooooom away along the track. They were closing in on a solution. She could feel it.

"I think that fixed something. Could there be some remaining bit of magic that's keeping it from going? Maybe something Dark that can be resolved with a Patronus?"

Minerva watched Ariana do the spell and then get excited. "Well that is a start." she said encouraging, then she thought of something and put up her hand. "Professor since the train was built by muggles, would the repair charm fix everything or would even wizards need to do some manual work on the train if it was broke from the crash?" if that was the case then there might be something they need to fix that way as well. Looking at the train she smiled, "Well the next thing after we figure out if we have to manually fix it would be to put some of the charms on it." Pointing her wand, "Protego Caelum" Then she looked at Ariana, "Well hopefully that will help it against anymore snow and ice. What other charm would be on it to help fix it?" She was trying to think of what else they could do to help it work.

YAY! It rocked! So reparo had worked to an extent. Beaming, he pondered what else might work, to get it to move. "Well Lupin had used the patronus te rid the dementors. So mebbe it does need the patronus charm te help it get going fully." Yep, that made a lot of sense. Because not only had the dementors frozen mechanical parts, dementors sucked all happiness!

SO, since the train was full of students who were thrilled about going to Hogwarts, perhaps it had drained the happiness enough to need a patronus charm to aid in getting the train moving once again. "I don' think it would hurt te at least try. The worst thet would happen is nothing but a patronus appearing and the train still not working."

Yep, not much worse could happen right, the train was already broken. "Do ye want te do the patronus charm?" If not he was more then willing. Not all students could do it, even seventh years, but he knew how.
