What to Bring
School brooms will be provided for all students to use

Any First Year who brings their own broom will lose 15 house points for breaking the long-standing school rule about First Years not being allowed brooms.
Arguing with Professor Vindictus regarding this rule will result in an automatic detention and possibly losing more points.

Professor Vindictus spent the better part of the morning preparing the Practice Pitch for the first lesson of the year. The green grass was perfectly manicured and the brooms for the lesson were arranged in two perfect rows. He stood between the broom rows with his arms folded while awaiting the arrival of the students.

Ashley was starting to daydream of a new life again, only this one involved having to hang from a broom in midair forever. If his arms hadn't started to hurt, he could actually get used to this too. Looking down at the ground, he wondered just how far it was, and whether he would break anything if he let go.
But he didn't want to leave his new friend, the broom, did he? Especially not with the spider roaming back in his direction. Inching closer to the bristles, Ashley tried to ignore the pain in his arms as he worked to pull at the broom, seeming to take forever to finally get it free.
Now he just had to get back on it.
He tried swinging a leg over, but missed a few times before he finally got it hooked, which was a great relief, since he was no longer just hanging by his hands. With that kind of leverage, it wasn't too difficult to roll the rest of his body onto the broom, which took off as soon as he did, circling back toward the spider.
But he was done with the spider now. It was cool from far away, but close up it just led to so many problems. Coming in close, he went up, giving up on trying to swerve around, and opting to go over instead. Muuuuch easier, even with a giant leg swinging slowly toward him. Up and over the spider, he smiled as he circled around again, just glad to be right side up and not stuck to anything.

"Pardon, what's your name again? Nate? Nathan? oh, Nathan, Actually I will be okay without your teaching. It was an accident. And, I don't want to make yourself in danger because of me." Then she flew away from the boy and gave the cunning smile. What a.. boy!

The spider didn't seem to give up chasing the girl wrapped around her broom which started to head to the ground in the same speed, Louisa's eyes widened and she slowly released her arms to catch the handle, "You stupid broom!" And with a harsh jerk upward, the broom shot up in the air in a loop move. "NAAA!" Louisa shut her eyes and tried to move the handle to slow down.

After one minute of that crazy forceful flying the broom slowed down and the girl caught her breath and opened her eyes. After getting rid of the stars in her eyesight she saw the pitch and the spider attacking some other unfortunate students. "That was a close one.." The girl murmured glancing down at the broom, with a smile Louisa noticed that the ground was far away - like several ft away! And she wasn't shaking or rocking herself off the broom.

Flying back to where the action was, Jesifur spotted the spider close to some other students. She quickly flew over and did a few loops around to try to call the attention of the spider to her. She had to weave in and out and around the other kids, it seemed to her that was more of a challenge than avoiding the spider itself.

Jesifur nearly missed knocking into another kids broomstick, pulling up gently on her handle she took off straight up into the air. doing a back loop she leveled herself off and found she had a good vantage point of what was going on below. Was the professor laughing? hmm, I suppose they all did look a bit funny. What a crazy flying lesson this had been. She really enjoyed being up in the air and feeling the breeze through her hair, but the bugs and the flying spiders she could do without.

Nathan followed after her. "Well alright, but you don't have to worry about me a mam. I am an excelent flyer, been flying since I was seven years old. And with his attemot at charm he forgot to pay attention and hit his head on the back of a goal post. He attemted to keep flying and look cool like nothing really happened but anyone could see on his face that hurt but thankfully he was a good enough flyer to keep control anyway,

Alyssa placed her hand over her broom and said "Up". Her broom immediately rose from the ground and hovered next to her. She mounted her broom leaned forward and immediately the broom flew up with her on it. "We're supposed to look out for flying objects. This is going to be fun." Alyssa thought to herself as she flew around looking for them.

Nicki raised her hand and placed it over her broom, with the command "UP" the broom rose from the ground. Nicki quickly mounted it, leaned forward a little and the broom immediately flew up forward. Pulling back slowly on the handle, Nicki straightened out and hovered above the ground looking for the 'flying objects' that the Professor told everyone to look out for.

Harvey was still being chased by the big spider and he looked backwards to see where the spider was, he suddenly felt something over him and looked and sticky web all over him.
He then took a sudden turn to the right and as the spider turned right
He turned left to try and lose him, but he couldnt
He went sharply down and back the other way but the spide still managed to keep up, Harvey knew it was the webs so he tried to get the web off when he heard the pincers behind him *click*..*click*..*click*...*click*
He sped up forgetting about the web on him to try and get away from the spider.

It was a wonder to her how she was able to escape the spider amid the circumstances she had gone through. She smiled at the Prefect who saved her, okay so it was not literally a matter of life and death but she was very grateful. The spider though seemed not very happy that the students caught in its web was able to get out. It was flying menacingly, adding the shrieks and cries of those airborne.

She gripped the handle of the broom firmly for she was afraid that she might fall off again. That was definitely not in her plan, but the spider's plan seems to be including her because it was now flying towards her direction.

Oh come on, she mouthed silently. She then gently maneuvered the broom to and fro. Trying her hardest to keep herself together as she went in circles while the spider still tailed her. But it was tiring, for Merlin's sake she was just a first year. The spider was kicking in different directions so she was flying in zigzag to avoid being hit, "Sorry !" she said upon colliding slightly with another student whom she did not see.

Kennedy was confindently hiding behind people, but all of the sudden they began to move, leaving him wide open for the giant spider. Then he thought, maybe if he didn't move he wouldn't cause any attention.

That was brilliant!

Kennedy smirked to himself. Oh yeah, that was smart...

SWOOSH!

He just barely dodged whatever had almost hit him. Kennedy looked up and saw the spider shooting something from it's behind.

SWOOSH!

Barely dodging it again, Kennedy swerved. Was that thing shooting it's spider web at him. It SO was! Didn't it know it was dangerous?! What if it hit him on the face and broke his glasses. He'd be blind and crash into the castle! Pushing his glasses back Kennedy readied himself.

It was ON, silly spider!

He took hold of the broom. "Come at me!" Yeah, he was ready.

SWOOSH!

He dodged it again, but this time he almost crashed with a student. Get out of his way! He's trying to survive and not lose a limb here. This distraction cost him when the spirder shot a blob of web and he didn't dodge it completely. It got him on his right elbow.

"Hey! That's not cool!" Right, like if a spider is going to understand him. He ignored the gross, gooey web on his elbow and went to hide behind another crowd. This spider was on his bad side now.

As Alyssa was flying around looking out the 'flying objects', suddenly a spider appeared from nowhere. It grew rapidly until it was larger than her.

"Great!! Spiders!!"Alyssa thought to herself. She heard screams coming from some of the other students and wondered what the fuss was about. "Spiders are cool. I don't have a problem with them, even though this is a humoungus one!!".

Without any warning, the spider flew at her. She ducked her head as the front of one of it's eight legs almost hit her head. As the rest of the spider's body flew at her, Alyssa leaned forward on her broom, pointed the handle down and immediately sped away, successfully dodging the spider. "Heh! you missed", she yelled back at the spider.

"Great!! The flying object is a SPIDER!!," Nicki thought to herself. "If it's an Acromantula, I have to make sure that it doesn't sting me."

The moment she thought that, it seemed like the spider sensed her thoughts because it immediately came at her. Nicki waited as it was almost on her, then she leaned forward on her broom and pointed the handle downwards. The broom immediately flew downwards away from the spider's head. She sped off and when she was a safe distance away, she manipulated her broom handle pointing it's handle until she was turned around facing it again.

Alyssa suddenly realized that she was heading towards a big enormous....no! GIGANTIC spider web. "Merlin! Merlin!Merlin!!!" Alyssa said to herself. She immediately straightened up and pulled back on her broom handle, making sure that she didn't do that suddenly, or she'd be flying head over heels into the web, without even wanting too. The broom stopped just a few inches from the web. Alyssa looked up and saw the spider flying down at her. "Oh Merlin!! here we go again!!" She immediately pointed her broom handle in the opposite direction and the broom complied and turned her away from the web. She immediately leaned forward and moved closer to the handle. The broom reacted immediately taking her away from the web. As she flew away, she looked back to see whether the spider was following her. But it wasn't because it had decided to pick on someone else.

Nicki saw Alyssa speed past her in the opposite direction. "Now where is she going," she thought to herself. She turned back in time to realize that she was heading for the SPIDER AND a GIANT WEB!! "Holy mother of Merlin!!" Nicki only a split second to make a decision, either dive downwards and hope that the spider wouldn't follow her up, or fly upwards making a total 180 degrees and get the heck out of there. She chose the latter. She leaned forward on her broom pointing the handle up. The broom immediately curved upwards and away from the spider and the web. Pointing her handle in the direction she wanted to go, the broom made a complete 180 degree curve.

"Whoa! this is just like being on a roller coaster!!" Nicki gripped her broom tighter. Not too tight to stall it, but enough to make sure that she didn't fall off it. "That will be the last thing I need. To fall off!! I know that there are nets to catch us, but it'll be my luck that while I'm falling the spider will grab me. Hang on Nicki!!" she told herself.

Jenny sighed. So far the idea of "playing tag" with the spider didn't help at all, because said spider didn't focus on one person; it was trying to reach whoever it can get! In fact, it was at its homey spider web right now, torturing the poor students who got caught in its trap! If only there was something she could do...

Jenny leaned forward, guiding her broom towards one end of the web, where it was attached to the edge of the pitch. She looked around. Too bad she couldn't perform magic right now, she didn't want to risk points and get yelled at by Professor Vindictus like the other girl. Hm...

Alyssa kept dodging other students who were flying past her, pointing her broom first left and then right and then left again. The students were looking up and backwards but not in front!! "Hey there, look where you're going,"she yelled at someone who almost clipped her as they flew past her.

"This is getting ridiculous," Alyssa thought to herself. "Not only do we have to avoid the spider, now we also need to avoid hitting each other!" Seeing another student flying directly towards her, Alyssa immediately leaned forward on her broom and pointed her handle upwards. "It's time to head up higher. That way I can keep a look out for the spider AND the students".

When she reached the altitude where she felt safe, she leaned back and pulled back slowly on the handle and pointed it parallel to the ground. The broom slowed down and straightened out. "Okay I'll stay here for awhile".

Nicki flew down the pitch looking back to see whether the spider was following her. She totally forgot to look forward until she heard someone yell out to look out. She quicky looked forward and realized that she was heading straight for Alyssa. She immediately pointed her broom handle downwards in order to dodge Alyssa. The broom immediately flew down and she barely missed Alyssa who had almost deployed a dodge manoevre and was flying up and away from her.

At Professor Vindictus' instructions, Gideon took back off the ground with a steady ascent. He couldn't help but wonder on what to expect. It could be anything seeing as the quidditch official had had some pretty interesting ideas in the past. Reaching a decent height slightly away from most of the group directly over the professor, the Gryffindor pulled back just a little. The boy stopping his movement and hovering in position to await whatever was to come for him and the rest of the class.

Alyssa started pulling at it, keeping an eye out for the spider who seemed to be preoccupied with the students trapped in its web. "If we keep pulling at the corners holding the web up, it'll eventually fall and hopefully the students will be able to crawl out," Alyssa yelled out to Jenny.

Harvey was taking break from running from the spider watching the other zigging and zagging.
He then noticed that the group zigging and zagging was coming closer to him INCLUDING THE SPIDER.
Suddenly the spider was onto HIM, but before Harveu could react the spider got him with one of his legs.
He fell off his broom and hurtled towards the ground, but he somehow managed to grab his broom and save himself from doom before he hit the ground he sped away from the spider or so he thought as the next moment he saw a big leg come towards him from the corner of his eye.
He managed to dodge it just in time before another leg came towards him, he dodged that one also and sped away slightly.

Gideon and his classmates didn't have to wait long for shortly after he had settled in his hovering spot, Professor Vindictus raised his wand and sent his obstacle up into the air.

Ok flying giant spider...not amusing.

Granted they werent on his list of ultimate fears but with that size and look it just had to be scary. A point that was easily being proved by the screams and looks of fear he heard and saw from his classmates in the air with him, too close to where Professor Vindictus had shot the spider up. Not to mention it reminded him a lot of the dealings with the acromantulas from a few terms back.

At least this one really wasn't real. Gideon leaned his broom into a turn, pulling away from the spider's general direction. He'd deal with it only when he had to.

As she hovered near the opposite corner of the web where Alyssa and Jenny were working, she started working on pulling at the web, tearing it from it's hold.

The spider's web blob on his elbow was GROSS! Kennedy tried taking it off, but on every intent the broom would wobble and not it a very nice way. He decided to ignore it just a bit more, he wouldn't want to be distracted for if the spider decided to go after him again. He looked down at the pitch, trying to look for the professor. Why was he doing this to them? Kennedy guessed that almost everyone was afraid...you know, 'cause of all the screaming and Eeep's.

Hmmm...

The professor wasn't involved in this activity, right? Right. So, what if he was? Kennedy decided that it was time for the spider to meet the professor. He would lure the spider to where he was and see how he liked it. M'hm.

He pushed the broom forward, but at the sight of the giant spider his legs trembled. Gah! His idea sounded much easier and less scary in his mind. He also didn't take into consideration that spider would go along with his plan....

...And now it was heading straight toward him. Did the spider love him or something? Eww!

"Go away!" Kennedy screeched, tilting to his side and missing the spider's long legs. SHUDDER. It was SO, 100% gross. "There are more students out there!" Get them, not him.

What a great first year at Hogwarts. Not.

Alyssa yelled out to the other students who were flying around."Hey we need help here!! If some of you can distract the spider, while the others work on getting this web loose, we'll be able to rescue everyone". She hoped that some of the students who weren't screaming hysterically heard her and came and helped because the only way they could get all the students off the web, was to work as a team.

Alyssa continued pulling on the web and when she saw the spider head towards her, she immediately leaned forward on her broom and pulled the handle upwards. The broom immediately straight up. Alyssa hung on to the broom with both her hands and when she was safely away from the spider, she leaned back and slowly pulled back on the handle. When she had straightened out, and made sure that the spider had switched its focus on something else, she leaned forward and pointed the handle towards the web, and flew back to the web. As she flew past some of the students, she yelled at them,"Follow me, we need your help". She took a quick glance backwards to see whether anyone had heard her and was brave enough to help out.
