Where The Practice Pitch
Who Can Attend First Years and those who wish to brush up on their basic flying skills
What to Bring School brooms will be provided for all students to use
Any First Year who brings their own broom will lose 15 house points for breaking the long-standing school rule about First Years not being allowed brooms.
Arguing with Professor Vindictus regarding this rule will result in an automatic detention and possibly losing more points.
Professor Vindictus spent the better part of the morning preparing the Practice Pitch for the first lesson of the year. The green grass was perfectly manicured and the brooms for the lesson were arranged in two perfect rows. He stood between the broom rows with his arms folded while awaiting the arrival of the students.

Jez had become more confident. This time, she kicked off and rose 3 metres into the air. She went forwards, then turned around and went back to her spot. Her body recalled everything her brother had ever taught her about flying, everything she thought she'd forgotten. She quickly came back down to the ground, adrenaline pulsing through her. Call it a flying high.
Back to the basics? Aww~ No fun! Why can't they do something... Challenging? Like how the possessed Vindictus told them to play Shuntbumps last term. That was loads fun!
After mounting her Locketbreaker she soars up the sky without any problems. From up the sky, she could see a lot of first years having problems to either soar up or conquer their fear. Smirks. "Heh! They surely have never ride a broom before," sneered Aiden to herself. This excludes muggle-borns, of course.
Janice just wanted to go faster, but something held her from doing it. Most probably, it's just for the fact that she doesn't want to be called 'show-off' or whatever Mr Quidditch said. She circled the Quidditch Pitch again and again, spotting Penny in pauses.
Hufflepuff where they are just and loyal they are patient, true and unafraid of toil
Penny spent a few minutes just flying around the pitch, then she thought that maybe she should try out some other stuff that she learned last year...
So she flew down towards the ground again, pulling the broom upwards to slow down and found she was hovering just off the ground.... she touched down a little harder than she would of liked... but that what she was here for - too make her flying skills better...
"OK, lets try that again, without the bumpy landing", she scolded herself.
Scott braced himself as he saw all his friends flying around in the sky, like it was a complete doddle.
He gently kicked his feet off the ground and soared into the air. I can't believe it he thought, I'm actually flying
He spotted someone he knew and waved "Hi Jez!" he smiled but was interrupted by his broom swinging out of control plummeting towards the ground.
He was sure that he was going to crash.
But just before he approached the ground, he quickly leaned backwards, then forwards and was now zooming back into the sky. Phew.
Hands tightly, but gently grippen on the handle, the second year Slytherin started to fly across the pitch, passing by other students on their brooms at a high speed. Unfortunately, she couldn't spot anyone she knows or even familiar with.
After being in the air for quite a long time, Janice descended while looking at her surroundings. Some first years are still scared of riding their broomsticks. Other people seemed to under-estimate this basic lesson. But as long as they're going outside, doing stuff using brooms, it's okay for her.
Then, Janice found a nice patch of grass, and landed softly.
After thinking he was going to die, the feeling of the wind in Scott's hair as he zoomed around the stadium was relieving.
He spotted a few of his friends showing off and sighed, they were going to get a lot of verbal abuse from the older students.
He glided along smoothly, trying to achieve total control and get a feel for flying.

Aiden who was flying around the pitch now has her attention on a first year boy. He looks uncomfortable. Maybe she should help him. She zooms towards the boy and brakes her broomstick just right next to him.
"You alright?" asked the girl with a gaze.

Reason: Typo

Scott was flying rapidly around the stadium feeling slightly unstable, his over-confidence when he started was starting to wear down.
WOAH WHAT?
He suddenly came to a halt, almost falling off the front of his broom, as a girl approached him, who looked about a year or two older than him.
I was until you came along he thought. But then he realized she was only trying to help.
"I am now" he smiled, as two people flew right over his head "Watch it!" he exclaimed.
Ira felt ecstatic! She had actually soared off the ground! on a broomstick...Wow!
She rose only about 15-20 inches, yet wasn't it good enough for the first time? She pushed on the broom, wanting to come back down. Maybe she had pushed a little too hard, for the broom suddenly came down, nearly hurting her ankle...
Pam flew around for a bit more, trying to find her courage to land. She flew to one end of the field, and took a deep breath. She then angled her broom towards the ground ever so slightly. She slowly decended. As she got closer to the ground, she pulled up a bit, and landed squarely on her feet. Feeling proud she dismounted her broom, and walked over the the teacher.
Eager for more, Ira got back again into the air. This time, she was 1 metre up from the ground. Now how to move forward? "Lean forward for fast and backward or sit straight for slowing down, wasn't that what the professor had said?" she said to herself and gently leaned forwards...
The broomstick moved ahead! "YAY!" she exclaimed, a little bit too loudly.

To slow down, sit upright on the broom and pull the handle towards you - if you do this too fast, you'll find yourself somersaulting backwards and crushing my precious grass with your bums," he said and kept a straight face. "You'll fly in whatever direction the broom handle is pointing."
He stepped away from the broom aisle. "No racing or showing off when you're airborne. I want everyone to practice taking off, flying around and landing," he instructed. "Is that understood?"
Dramatic pause.
"To become airborne, gently push off from the ground with your feet. Gently! If you push too hard, you'll rocket upwards into the sky and be out of control."
Hopefully they understood.
"You may all start flying!"

OOC Instructions: Practice flying around the empty stadium. Have some fun because no one should be perfect. To earn points, you must have at least 5 separate RP posts describing what you're doing (at least 5 sentences) and try to keep the chatter to a minimum. If you've just joined the lesson, this is where you'll start.
The next part of the lesson will begin tomorrow @ 8pm EST.
Quidditch time ! Oh, yeah. she might suck at other subjects but this one, she knew she can manage. Professor Vindictus teaches great too which merely you can consider adding fuel to the fire.
She just stood and listened as the other were chatting about anything until the Professor had instructed them to mount their brooms. Holding the handle of her broom, she traced the rough outlines in its surface. A broom that has gone through a lot of students, I see, Beatrice thought.
And upon cue, she followed the other students making their own magic up above. She mounted her broom and immediately felt a surge of adrenaline in her veins and thus, not wasting any more time. She gripped the handle and gently pushed herself upward.
In no time, she was feet above the ground. She can just remember her first flying experience when she fell at the first attempt but too much for that.
Ira went up a little higher. She began to love flying... She leaned a little forwards and whoosh, the wand sped up. Quickly she leaned back to slow it. Anyhow she steadied it.
She had only imagined all this in her dreams and now she felt like she was in her dreamworld...
She just hovered up in the air, watching the senior students going higher up and faster and the other first years like her, closer to ground and more cautious..

Indiana had been looking forward to this. She loved flying, and couldn't wait to get back up in the air. So when the whistle blew, she was off, although she was a bit nervous. She wasn't used to flying with so many people, she really didn't want to fly into someone! That would be so bad. So she didn't really go that fast, she wanted to make sure that she was able to control the broom, more than going really fast. She needed to be able to do that, otherwise she wouldn't be to be that good on the quidditch team, and she wanted to show that she really deserved her spot on the team. So she leaned forward slightly as she flew in a clockwise direction around the pitch, trying not to bump into anyone, or the stadium. That would be pretty bad. Her head was up, looking where she was going. She wasn't scared of heights, that would be pretty bad, so she didn't really care that she was really high up. She was having a fun time, and learning how to fly. This was good. Very good.

Ira flew around a bit more. But, while day-dreaming she lost track and leaned forward and suddenly the broomstick sped and went downwards. Suddenly very afraid, heart beating loudly in her ears, Ira gripped the broomstick tightly and leaned back. The broomstick slowed down just before touching the ground. Now she really wanted to get back onto the ground now. She slowly pushed down and forwards and landed on ground.

She wanted her broom to have a warm up first, so she held firm its handle and leaned forward, pointing the handle downward. She immediately rushed down ! Her hair flew with the gentle breeze of the wind. Yet before hitting the ground, she pulled the handle upward and thus, she was going fast, fast, fast upward. But then, after regaining she had stationed herself a while ago in mid air, she once again pointed the handle downward. And Beezus had almost repeated the same until she got a little dizzy from all the swooshing.
After the awesome landing, Jesifur felt a little more confident. She mounted her broom again and kicked off hovering slightly higher this time, she leaned forward and pointed the handle in the direction she wanted to go and zoom, she was off again. This time she went higher and faster looping around and feeling the wind in her hair. Flying was so exhilarating and fun. She wondered why she had been so nervous in the first place. She wondered if she should try some tricks of sorts.

After that menacing up and down routine which made her head spin a little, Beezus decided to focus on her broomstick handle handling. She was already back to the ground and so she once again pushed herself upwards, and up she went.
While above the ground, she tried shifting the direction of her broom handle but leaning a little forward to be able to move as she shifted. That would be a great practice for Quidditch games since she was a reserve. Beatrice focused on this activity for a while.

As Kurumi began her slow decent towards the ground, she spotted Selina wave at her and she returned the favor by slowly slipping her right hand off the handle and performing a rather awkward looking princess wave. She was sure Selina was probably dying to go faster or perform some sort of trick on her broom, and Kurumi was sure she would get the chance before the lesson was over.
Returning her hand to the handle, Kurumi pulled up on it gently to level herself out and decided to do a loop of the pitch at this lower altitude. Less students flying around meant less chances for her to whack into someone - especially since she wouldn't put it past the school broom to try and pull something else. She guided her broom towards the left, leaned forward a bit, and took off at what would have been considered a brisk jog where she running.
Kurumi did a few zigs and zags of her own accord and returned to where she had started her loop.

Jesifur thought the flying was going quite smoothly. As for "tricks" she did't think she'd be doing anything complex, but thought it might be okay to try and have a go at it with one hand. There are plenty of times when you fly and you need to also hold something. She carefully balanced her weight and began to loosen her left hand from the broom. The broom gave a little shake, she slowed down a bit and tried again. Loosening her left hand again she quickly reached up, scratched her noses and just as quickly put it back on the handle. The broom did't miss a beat. Smooth as glass. She let go with her left hand again and this time ran it through her hair smoothing it with the wind. One handed flying on her first lesson. She smiled and put her hand back on the handle.
Violet had been dreading Flying Class most of all. She had never been on a broom before, despite growing up in a wizarding household--her guardians thought it was too dangerous (they mostly worried that some Muggle would see her, rather than that she might fall off and hurt herself, she suspected). And, well, she was a little afraid of heights--it even bothered her to stand up on the house roof and look over the edge.
And now here she was, standing with her palm over a broom, saying [/B]"Up! Up! Up!"[/B] like a fool. Nothing was happening. Everyone else seemed to already have mounted their broom, and she couldn't even get hers to rise to her hand.
Finally, though, she noticed the shabby old school broom begin to rustle feebly on the ground. "Up! Up!UP!!!" And finally, slowly, the broom drifted up through the air and she hand hold of it.

Now time for the real flying experience. After the shift activity she had conducted for herself. Beatrice felt that she was now ready to fly, as in fly. She raised her head and came face to face with the welcoming skies and the warm rays of the sun. She gently held the handle, pointing it upward and leaning forward. In no time, she was flying up, up, up and away.
