Arguing with Professor Vindictus regarding this rule will result in an automatic detention and possibly losing more points.
Professor Vindictus spent the better part of the morning preparing the Practice Pitch for the first lesson of the year. The green grass was perfectly manicured and the brooms for the lesson were arranged in two perfect rows. He stood between the broom rows with his arms folded while awaiting the arrival of the students. |

Now, Raven rode her broomstick very carefully. She didn't want to stay at hospital wing because of this class. Slow, but sure. She could make a U-turn, zig-zag and a swooping motion. "Hmm.. I think its time to reach the ground again." Then Raven swoop down and reached the ground. She made a smooth landing.

| Post 1 ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls João of course hadn't brought his own precious Firebolt to the lesson, but these school brooms didn't look safe at all. He eyed his suspiciously, still on the ground. It looked like it was 101 years old. It probably was. These school brooms were never too much of quality. None of the schools were. He eyed the others first, to see whether the brooms carried them. If they carried them... but on the other hand what if his broom was faulty?.. "Up!" And it was in his hand, although it flew half-heartedly. Because he was half-hearted. He didn't want to ride this. But, if he had shown up for the class, he figured he had to. So, throwing a leg over it, he held the wood firmly and tapped with his feet on the ground.
The wind would do no good to his sinusitis. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Nero Perseus Ballarat First Year | Post 5 ☆ Always Potterhead ☆ SSRPG Addict ☆ Coffee Addict ☆ Aiden doesn't feel like flying around doing nothing anymore. She did it countless times during summer break, so it is getting boring. Carefully, she maneuvres her broom towards the ground when suddenly she loses control of the speed. "Woah! Woah! Slow down!" she exclaims at the inanimated object as the broom is still thrusting forward even after her feet reaches the ground. After being dragged by the broomstick around eleven metres forward, Aiden finally managed to stop it.

Once the professor 'tweeted', Louisa raised her hand above the broom and muttered, "Up." The thing flied feebly to touch her hand. She mounted it lazily, considering she'd done this a hundredth times, and took a deep breath. "Here we go." Murmuring those words the broomstick beneath her gave a slight shudder. Louisa stared down at the handle, "You think I'm enjoying this? Just fly away!" When a girl snaps at a broom, you know something bad is going to happen.
With a gentle push the broomstick started ascending to the air. Louisa's face quickly started to pale and her hands were holding the handle too tightly that they sweat almost right away. "Oh no.." She was unsteadily sitting, rocking slightly to the right and then to the left as the broom continued to go up slowly.

| 1 Funny Beauty Well quiddich, did not work out but I'm only a first year. I have plenty of time to practice and get better for nest year and why not start now in beginning flying.
Okay so first I get the broom to come to my hand, I have done this hundreds of times before. 'UP", Nathan said loudly and firmly and the broom flew right up into his hand. Well, that was a success, however if I could not atleast do that I would have had no buisness in trying out for quiddich.

He was careful not to get too high though, because he still didn't trust the broomstick. It was far too old and he didn't want to die riding on a broom. Although it changed directions... not so easily but manageable, it was too slow. Not that he tried to go any faster than this 10 km/h speed, but it was obvious.
Looking around, he turned his back to the weak sun and scanned the area. Not too far away flew a girl around his age, who brought a smile to his face. He surely knew that girl. And he also remembered perfectly that she wasn't comfortable flying. But she was going higher and higher, although slowly... was something wrong? Yes, it was better to draw his wand just in case. The professor was watching, yes, but what if she fell before he acted? He didn't want her to die too. No, dying because of falling off a broomstick was too lame
Flying towards her, he stood at the level with her broomstick and adressed her: "Louisa! Everything alright?" |

Jesifur had done well with her right hand on the broom and her left hand off. She decided to try it the other way too. Gently easing up her grip with her right hand she readjusted her weight on the broom. Seeing a tree to the left with slightly pinkish leaves she flew left. She extended her right arm out and reached for a single pinkish red leaf. pulling up and to the left she felt the leaf and grabbed. It dislodged from it's branch intact. Flying back over to the starting area she looked at it, making sure to keep eye on where she was going too. A red Maple leaf, slightly pink from the changing season, very pretty. Flying was so fun.

It probably wasn't a great idea to sit in the middle of the stadium.
Before he could say anything else, she was gone. " Err bye" he said to no one. Might as well learn to land now, he thought.
He accelerated way too fast towards the ground and stretches his legs out slightly. He was expecting a safe landing but he accidentally lent forward when he had to maneuver out the way of another student.
He crashed into the ground, and lay there in pain.

Ashley just sort of lay on the ground, looking up at the sky and wondering if it was safe to move yet. Or maybe it was less safe to just stay there. Besides, he wasn't sure if what he'd just done technically counted as landing. He was on the ground, yes, but he was pretty certain that wasn't how he was supposed to get there. Most people didn't just fly somewhere, and then flop off their brooms when they got there.
The instructions were to go up, fly around, and land. So he rolled over with a deep sigh and got up, dusting off his clothes before going to search for his broom, hoping like crazy that it wasn't broken. That was the last thing he needed right now.

All right, Violet finally had hold of her broom, now. She swung one leg over the side of the handle and carefully mounted. Okay, you can do this. She went over the teacher's instructions once more in her head--push off from the ground with your feet, and you just...rise up in the air? (up...that was the problem) And...show the broom who's boss. Violet somehow felt that her broom knew who was boss, and it wasn't her. But, she was not going to lose points from Slytherin because she was too weak to learn to fly. So....
She pushed her feet against the ground, and her broom wobbled up and down a bit, then rolled around and tipped her off on the ground.

She was contented with her own practice now. Her broom wasn't a hassle so she really can spin around with it. Because of this, she just decided to stay afloat above the ground and just looked at the other students either having fun with flying or dreading the existence of broomsticks. She can't wait for the start of the Quidditch matches. They'll be learning more about flying and that was an ultimate good thing.

Looking up she saw it was Joao! Pheeew, Vashti didn't have to attend these classes maybe? But she'd found someone else! Yay! " Umm.. yeah, I'm just.. trying to balance myself." Blehhh. She gave a weak smile before pushing the ground again and flying sloooowwly toward him.

Hopefully they understood. "You may all start flying!" TWEET! OOC Instructions: Practice flying around the empty stadium. Have some fun because no one should be perfect. The next part of the lesson will begin tomorrow @ 8pm EST. Alyssa loved flying on her new Firebolt. It was definitely a lot faster than her brother's old Nimbus. She already knew how to fly but that is what class is for, to perfect what you think you know. So she stuck her hand out and said "Up". The broom immediately rose in the air settling in front of her. She mounted the broom. "Now to fly"!!

Well, that was embarassing, Violet thought. She picked herself off the ground, grasped the broom a little more firmly, and mounted again. We'll see who's boss won't we, and it's not going to be a stupid tool made of wood and straw! With a little more confidence (or sheer nerve, it was hard to tell which), Violet pushed off from the ground again and found herself hovering in the air. She wasn't sure if she felt elated or terrified.

Flying was fun, but Jesifur thought maybe she should take the landing slow. She would't want to repeat her last dismount, she was amazed she had't injured herself. She was nearing the area where they had taken off from and she slowed on her approach. There were quite a few students flying around this area.
Jesifur slowed and came in low, she extended her left leg once she got about a foot from the ground and dismounted. She had been going a bit fast still and had to run a few steps in order not to fall over. "Whew", she said aloud and she slowed and stopped.

Nicki raised her hand in front of her Moontrimmer and said "Up". The broom raised up and floated right in front of her. She walked towards it and mounted the broom. This wouldn't be the first time that she had flown but it would be the first time that she was flying it on an open pitch. Kicking off, she leaned forwards and immediately the broom flew forwards.

Her hands were still clutching the handle as she steered it slightly forward to go up, above where Joao was floating. Louisa reached four meters and stayed there, the broom shuddering underneath her while the girl tried to look up AWAY from the handle... for a second.

Wonderfully, Ashley found that his broom hadn't been broken. He did wonder if it was angry with him, though. Could it get angry? Sometimes he felt like his wand was angry with him for some reason or another, so maybe brooms were like that too. He approached carefully, about to pick up the broom before remembering that he should practice the 'up' command as well.
That went well, which was promising. After a quiet recitation of the command, he had a broom in hand instead of still on the ground. Great.
Since all seemed to be going well so far, he climbed onto the broom and pushed off quickly, trying not to sit there too long and overthink it. He wasn't sure how high he wanted to go, though. Maybe he would try turning while he was close enough to the ground that he could drop off again if he needed to. At least he was pretty good with getting the broom to go up, and so he leveled off not too far from the ground, holding on tightly as he turned the handle, this time making sure not to do it too fast.
So, yeah. No supersharp turns. Or he would end up upside down again, and now was not the time for that. Maybe after he figured out how to get right side up. For now, he was just going to make circles and play around with altitude, practicing in order to get some control over it.

João nodded silently with concerned eyes as he watched her pale face. She was terrified, wasn't she? The height terrified him too but he had his wand now and he could perform the pillowing spell in case he fell. His broom was alright too, so he had no reason to be scared, for he couldn't see any bludgers to knock him down. All was fine, and he was going to make her feel so too.
Agreeing the four-metre limit, he turned to the left slowly, hoping she would follow and started to accelerate juuuust a little bit. That would be fine with her, right? "If you want to slow down or turn to somewhere else, just tell me, sim?" |

Alyssa loved being up in the air. She leaned even more forward over her broom, getting as close to the handle but at the same time making sure that she didn't lean forward too far that she fell over. The broom picked up speed and zoomed forward. She zoom towards the end of the pitch. When she almost reached the boundaries, she sat upright and slowly pulled back on the handle pulling it towards her. She did it slowly because she didn't want to stop suddenly and fly head over heals over her broom. She started slowing down and hovered over the field.

Violet felt slightly queasy as she rose higher and higher off the ground. She paused for a few minutes in mid-air to get her bearings and looked around to see other students already flying around the pitch. She could tell Flying was not going to be her best subject (but she had already suspected that). She would settle for just being able to pass.
Still, flying was a basic wizarding skill and she was not going to let her mother's family sneer at her lack of flying abilities and muttering things like, what could you expect of a half-blood. No, Violet was determined to learn this (and what she determined to do, she did!)
Gingerly she leaned forward a bit and attempted to move forward, as instructed. But her broom starting going forward somewhat faster than she had wanted--she started feeling panicky again, and sat back bolt-upright.

Annabeth kicked off from the ground on her ancient broomstick, she had never actually been on a broom before so was very nervous.
She kicked off fromt he ground, and began quite well, until she fell of and hurt her arm, oops! she said to herself, making sure that nothing was broken, she got back up to try again.

Eino didn't dare let go on the broom's handle all the while he was flying, and tried to keep a tight grip on the handle even when he wasn't leaning forward. He flew by several students, and as he was approaching a large crowd Eino noticed a fellow Ravenclaw drop from her broom. He steered the handle towards her direction and smoothly made his way there. He lowered himself, landed and walked up to her. "Are you alright?" He asked as he tried to help her up. It didn't seem serious but he thought he should ask anyway, flying was a scary and dangerous business.
