The first floor was... certainly busier in a different way than Professor Schirmer's own usual haunt of the third level. Less injured children she supposed, and more Dash. She wondered if the professors of the first floor were more social as a result and made up her mind to befriend the healer. Third floor solidarity.
The classroom she'd chosen for the defense lesson had been one of her favourites as a student, and the tall blonde woman was a little bit dismayed to see how dusty and unused it was. Really, Hogwarts was it so hard to keep yourself clean? Even with elves that were off doing goodness knew what? A few quick charms and minutes later the room was sparkling.
Literally.
Unlike most of the Defense rooms, this one featured bright windows that allowed the light to stream in, diffused with colours and generally giving the room a bright and happy feel. The view looked out over the lake. There were no desks or chairs in the room and even the professor took a seat on the ground, waiting there with her feet tucked up comfortably beneath her for the students to arrive. She had a stack of books next to her and looked serene, if a bit distant.
When it was time, she charmed the doors to open, and greeted the students as they begin to file in.
ooc: the lesson will begin approximately 7.5 hours from the time of this post I'm simply opening it now so you can post arriving if you want to. The lesson has begun! Please act as if you were here all along if you haven't yet posted, latecomers will likely lose points. Please remember to follow Professor Schirmer's rules which can be found here.
SPOILER!!: the room looks something like this

In addition the room is now decorated for a party. Balloons and streamers are everywhere, there are tables set up with food and drink, and music playing to add to the festive feel.
Questions: What do you know, or think you know, about the Patronus Charm?
Discuss amongst yourselves some famous witches and wizards and their known Patronus forms. Given what we know about them; their achievements, their experiences, what do you think their Patronus form indicates about their personalities?
For those of you who can cast a Corporeal Patronus and know what form it takes, see if you can match up how it fits your personality. Younger students, you can work with students who do have a known Spirit Guardian, or you can look up mine, which is a Dove, or Headmaster Tate's which is a Mountain Goat, or that of another adult you know, even some of the historical figures we were discussing.
"I want you to think of your happiest memory. Something strong enough that you can focus on it easily, maybe something that makes you smile. It doesn't have to be relating to love. If you have more than one, lucky you! You can experiment to see which is best. You don't have to share it if you don't want to, but feel free to put your hand up and share if you do.

Levitation party activity! Click here for instructions. Read the post carefully and please take note of your classmates posts following this one too. Worth ten points!
edit: Activity still running, only please focus on the third part, AKA testing out your happy memory with a levitation potion.
The party is still going, you can help yourself to food or drink while we wait for a guest fetched via a patronus message. In the meantime the professor wants to know who can cast a patronus already and whether its corporeal or non-corporeal.
PLEASE be realistic with your character's abilities. The patronus charm is ADVANCED magic and little firsties should NOT be able to manage it. For the purposes of this class please pay attention to the following:
6th & 7th years: May be able to cast a corporeal or non-corporeal patronus, depending on character's skill level and experience. May learn how to do one or the other during the lesson.
5th years: May be able to cast non-corporeal patronus, depending on character's skill level and experience, very FEW and RARELY may a 5th year manage a corporeal patronus. May learn how to do one or the other during the lesson.
4th years: Depending on character's skill level and experience, very FEW and RARELY may a 4th year manage a non-corporeal patronus. May learn a non-corporeal patronus during the lesson.
3rd years: Depending on character's skill level and experience, may learn a non-corporeal patronus during the lesson. But its okay for them NOT to learn how yet too.
1st & 2nd years: Depending on character's skill level and experience, may learn an UNSTABLE non-corporeal patronus during the lesson. This means they might manage a slight whisp, but otherwise should NOT be able to cast a patronus. Its okay for them NOT to learn how yet too.
When we get to the spell casting aspect of the lesson, please note that anyone not being realistic may have their post edited or deleted, which I don't WANT to do but we're not all Harry Potter! For reference, Althea learned hers in 6th year non-corporeally, and managed a corporeal patronus in 7th year. Remember, just because your character might not be able to do it yet, it doesn't mean they never will!
As you saw, Professor Scabior came because I sent him a Patronus message. What do you think are the benefits of communicating via Patronus?
"Alright are you all ready to give it a go? Stand up if you are and make sure you give each other a bit of space. Wands out. The incantation is Expecto Patronum. Ecks-PEK-toh pa-TRO-num. You simply need to point your wand and focus really hard on that strong happy memory. Practice the incantation a few times to get the hang of it and then you may start. Those of you who can already manage it, please do encourage the younger ones and let them see how you do it. I have an activity for you too, that we'll start in a little while!"
Please note, I'm waiting to get an all clear regarding the recent Malware threat on SS before continuing, not because of any risk, rather because several people may be staying away right now and I'd rather be sure nobody is left at a disadvantage because they don't feel safe accessing the site. Expect that the lesson will continue on sunday. Everything is all clear Sorry for any trouble.
The latest instructions can be found in this post.
Jezebel flipped through the book, scanning the pages of animals. She froze when a certain one caught her eye. Seeing the roads within chaos, understanding the patterns of chaos, moving without fear in the darkness, empowering oneself... The jaguar seemed like it could possibly fit....
She heard the teacher say it was time for the next step. A memory. Jez relaxed in her seat, twirling her quill in her hand. Her mind drifted back to her childhood. Her and her brother hiding underneath the stairs after sneaking cookies from the kitchen. This would be her memory. A time when she was truly happy.

Like a Domino ♥ Karma Kimalia ♥ ♥ Taco Bell ♥ Sorry for party rocking
Kimalia didn't like feeling tired during a class, but she just couldn't keep herself as upbeat as usual. Certain events outside class held in her mind proceeded to have her merely jot down her answers in her parchment rather than speak aloud.
SPOILER!!: Kimalia's notes
Patronus are spells that are used as a defense purpose against Dementors but can also be used to help deliver a message or warning as well.
Tonks Lupin had her patronus change into a wolf later in her life, which could be said to resemble her love for her spouse, Remus Lupin who was a registered werewolf.
Hmm, Kimalia never performed a patronus before, but she definitely thought deeply on what hers might be in the past. A dolphin really seemed to attract her the most, and couldn't see anything else calling to her attention. They were bright, intelligent, enjoy having fun and have a cute smile. Oh look, Sierra earned some house points. Yay.
SPOILER!!: Professor

Hmm a happiest memory? Kimalia smirked as she set her quill down to think of some. Well, there were plenty of happy events, her acceptance to Hogwarts, seeing her family, her first broomstick ride,.. Oh, now that she thought of it.. Quidditch has become such an entertaining moment in her life. Kimalia rose her hand for the first time during the lesson, "Well Professor, I think anyone will agree that winning at something could trigger a happy memory, like maybe an important game, event, prize or something." Especially the triple victory last term, but perhaps that wasn't a happy time for everyone.

A happy memory. The happiest. That was difficult to choose.
Not having the slightest idea why, Nora thought of her first day at Hogwarts. She knew she felt happy, but it was not nearly enough for a patronus. Then she thought about a Christmas Eve, a few years ago... but no. It was not good enough.
And then she finally had her happiest memory. The moment when she'd seen Elijah at Magical Menagerie. But she didn't want to share that. She was sure that almost everyone, including professor Schirmer, might think that it's way too silly.
A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.
Victoria can think of lots of happy memories. But none of them can fit in the category of a strong memory. She must have a good memory, she MUST. What if everyone else have one except for Victoria? Nooo....she MUST think of a good memory...
Victoria started to note all the memories that are in her head. Hogwarts...friends...family...
What about being sorted into the Slytherin House and finding her place in a strange place when she had just arrived at Hogwarts? At first, she thought she would never sort into any House...then at last, the Sorting Hat shouted where she had belong.
Lexi knew what her happy memory was... it was the one she often times used for conjuring her Patronus. She was not going to share it, though... it was all girly and mushy and such. Hehe. She did get a huge goofy grin on her face as she let her mind wander back to that moment. It was indeed the happiest she has ever been in her life.
Looking to the professor she simply waited and smiiiiiiiled.
Jordan thought back to all of his favourite moments: when he made his first friends, when he first successfully used his metamorph powers, flying a broom, when he got his Hogwarts letter...
He'd got it! He thought back to when his mum came back for him. And knowing that he'd never recieve another beating from his father... He felt warm inside, as his face split into a wide smile.
His arm flew into the air, he didn't care about people knowing his memory. "My best memory is from the day after I receive my Hogwarts letter, Proffessor." he began. "My mum came back and took me away from my father, it was the best day of my life! Was that the sort of thing you were looking for?" he asked.

Maxwell thought about it he had quite a few happy memories. he thought about when he got his hogwarts letter but then remembered his father's reaction to it and it wasn't a happy one anymore. then he thought about when he'd first used his wand, when he first met Josie then when he's worked up the courage to kiss her, then his birthday and the firebolt that would be waiting for him in the summer. he thought all of these memories were more than enough, so he waited for further instructions.
Kennedy thought of the animal that his Patronus would take. He had no clue. Not even after skimming over the text book the professor had handed him. It was just too broad because more than one animal had the same personality traits as he. Maybe, after he managed to produce a Patronus then he'd know what for it'll take. He would just have to wait 'till then.
He looked down at the book, not reading it, but just staring. Kennedy was thinking of a happy memory. Unfortunately, he didn't have many of those, which just made this harder... There was one though, and he wondered if that would work. It probably would because that same memory brought a small smile upon his lips.
A happy memory? Well that should be ok. August was thankfully fortunate enoguh to grow up in a loving home filled with a great family that he cared for deeply. Thinking hard, the happiest memory he could think of was a few years ago on Christmas. Might aswell tell the Professor.
"Professor, my memory woudl be about two years ago, before I came here to Hogwarts, before I fully knew what I was, we went to my grandparents home in the country and a huge snowstorm came and covered most of the village. The electricity was out and everything but we had a wonderful time we spent the whole night playing games and singing and just talking with each other. It was great!" he smiled again just thinking of it all.

Alyssa reviewed in her mind all the happiest moments she had in her life and she had many. But one memory stood out among the rest. She decided not to share it outloud because some of the Ravenclaws would not like to be reminded of that day.
Her happiest memory would have been the other day when their Quidditch team won their first match. Against all odds, despite only having 4 players they managed to beat Ravenclaw.
Not only was she very happy about that but she was more happy because she had been one of the four players. If it wasn't for some of the other players falling ill, she wouldn't have been playing at all, since she had missed tryouts. So the fact that not only had she been asked to play despite that, she had won the first Quidditch match she had EVER played in a competition. Her family had been so proud when they heard the news. She could hear her siblings in the background screaming for joy. It was definitely hard to live up to the Potter name. But this one occasion she did. Alyssa smiled when she relived those memories again.

Happy memories! Louisa got a LOT of them today! Where would she even start? The girl shifted her weight leaning on her left leg as she stared dreamily at the shiny windows. The most vivid and happy memory her mind offered was her first kiss with Joao on her fifteenth birthday couple of weeks ago. She flied without wings back then.
There was that time with Dallin, too, at the whomping willow last year. At the Giant Treehouse also when they climbed to the tire-swings. Both were immensely happy.
The time she spent with Adam shopping for his school supply back in Diagon Alley was really fun and happy time. Although their intense meeting at the Owlery early this year was the peak of their friendship. Louisa remembered her heart racing very clearly.
However, she knew that they were just too private to be shared. Her kiss was a no-no for sharing, her other memories were fine to be shared... there was only one problem - both boys had girlfriends and sharing her overwhelming memories with them wouldn't be a good idea.. especially that both of their girlfriends already wanted Louisa's head on a stick.
That being the case with her oh-so-happy memories, Louisa froze mutely in her spot looking for anyone daring to share. Maybe she was the only one with complicated silly situations about her memories?

Nessie had always known her fonest memory. Anything with Vallerie. She seemed to find that as the years went on the memories of her seemed to slowly fade. Nessie grasped onto any that she could find hidden away in her mind. She thought about the memory and focused in on it.
It was of her and Vallerie together just a few weeks before she died. She was just teaching Nessie to skate. They had so much fun that day. She had never felt so happy in her life.
'Three years today.' She thought. Tears started to prick her eyes. She turned away from her classmates and quickly swiped them away.
Aspen had waited until most of the other students were finished with the books before standing and unobtrusively borrowing one. She flipped idly through the pages, passing over all the big cats or the monkeys. Naturally, she went straight to the bat section.
It was hard to tell if the description of the bat totem fit her OR if Aspen just wanted it to fit. Either way, Aspen was hoping for a bat. A warthog might not be so bad though...
She was thinking up a memory as she flipped, and in doing so, stirred up a question, "Do you think ...," Oh.. hand up! Aspen didn't often speak in class. When she did, it was almost impulse. The whole hand thing didn't fit into that equation well, ".... Sorry. Do you think that the memory works better if it's fresher? Newer? Like...," Aspen paused and unknowingly chewed on a strand of hair while she thought, "...like I have lots of happy memories from when I was younger, but nothing like the ones say.... from this past Christmas. The older ones are half remembered and some a result from pictures and imaginings. Does that matter? Or is it only about the happy feeling with the memory?"
In other words, did the memory's legitimacy play a role in the success of the patronus?
The memory Aspen was going to use when they were allowed to cast was going to be from King's Cross. Her father and brother had simply been waiting on the platform to pick her up. It was simple, but ridiculously happy. Potent still in her memory.

Hmmkay, so it seemed she had sort of....? stumped the professor, though not really, since the woman specialized in charms and not DADA or Transfiguration. Nonetheless, Tori made a mental note to ask Professor Magnus about that one.... cuz she really did want a dragon patronus and wondered if she could be a dragon animagus one day.
Anyway. On to happy memories! This was vital to creating a corporeal patronus, Tori understood that much. But what was her happiest moment? Meeting Paulie? No.... Slytherin winning her first match? No... something more recent...
AHA. She had it now. She'd felt pretty elated once Slytherin had won against Hufflepuff, cuz that meant they were going to the finals. Plus, she managed to block her most shots ever, AND she got a kiss on the forehead by Perfect Prefect Treyen Lockhart after the game!
That was tops. The girl wasn't about to share this memory though, especially not since she saw the Ravenclaw captain/Treyen's kinda-sorta girlfriend sitting just a few feet away...

"Very polite and understanding of you, Sierra. Three points for your maturity and good manners despite your discomfort." Professor Schirmer told the Slytherin girl.
She addressed the Hufflepuff next, giving the girl a nod. "We'll hear no more of it then. In future do respect other people's personal space, and I'm sure you'll make up your lost points in no time." Alyssa did seem to apply herself to her school work with great industry, something Professor Schirmer appreciated. She smiled at the girl encouragingly.
The interruption dealt with, Professor Schirmer scanned the class and listened to the discussions. It was nice how enthused and on task most of them were.

William raised his hand. " My hsppiest memory is when my dad took me to San Francisco to watch him play baseball for the San Francisco Giants" Willam told the professor. " He played on the team that year and they won the World Series" William said to the professor. " I got to meet all his friends on the team and he won the last game with a homerun to give the Gaints the World seris win, 4 wins to 3 losses over the New York Yankees" Willaim explained to the professor. " He became the MVP of the World series as he had a lot of good games" Willaim smiled.

Her happiest memory? Kurumi scratched the back of her head nervously as she tried to think about what that could possibly be. Finding out that she was a witch hadn't really been happy for her. Quite the opposite really. Her immediate response had been tears actually. Tears because it meant that the eleven years prior had been lies and that she was even more different from everyone else. All she wanted to do was fit in. Be like everyone else. Then there was her finding out that being a Metamorphagus was something uncommon and she felt even more depressed.
Was that why she had no control over it? Maybe, but she was getting sidetracked again.
Then, her thought fell on Selina, the sister that she never had, and a moment when the younger Gryffindor had confided in her about her abilities as a Seer. For the first time, Kurumi hadn't felt alone, she had felt like she had someone who understood her. Someone who she could confide in. Perhaps...this was the sort of memory that she could use for producing her Patronus?
Smiling to herself, she knew that it was the happiest she had ever been in that moment in the girl's dormitory, but this was a memory too personal to share. Instead, she simply smiled back up at the professor to indicate that she had thought of a memory and was ready to move on.

Isabelle thought and thought about this. A happy memory. The happiest memory ever. That would be hard to decide. Why, Isabelle had many happy memories. Finally transfering to Hogwarts, doing well on her OWLs, leading her Quidditch team to victory in her fourth year, James... Isabelle could not forget about James. He brought her joy, but also sadness.
Snap out of it. She needed something happy. Isabelle thought about it for awhile. Finally she thought about one, being with her sister last summer. They had strengthened their bonds then. It was great, a week in America, just the two of them. It had made Isabelle feel happier than she had in a long time. Gabii had taken her to so many fun places. The fun and happiness never stopped when they were there. Isabelle smiled slightly. This was the perfect memory.

Happiest memory? Angelina rested her head on her hand and thought. Huh? She thought of moments when she was with friends and having fun and was happy, but none wasn't the happiest out of all of them.
After a while of thinking Angelina finally thought of one. The day her family went out for a picnic in the middle of summer. Her brother Mark came in from South American to vist his mother, father, brothers and sisters. Angelina's sister Elizabeth cancelled a vication with her friends to stay and spend time with her family before their older brother Tristan went to war in Africa and got killed. That was the last time Angelina's whole family was together all as one and happy.
Ariana didn't have to hesitate one moment for her happy memory. it was the moment She was sitting outside the tree house in December & Joseph approached her so sweetly & handed her a purple rose & took her breath away. Ariana felt like the happiest girl in the world. Yes that was her happy memory!
Jesifur had tons of happy memories, most included her family. Her happiest memory was actually a two week long one. It began a few days before her birthday with a trip overseas, with sightseeing all over London. On her birthday she was given her Hogwarts letter and the whole next week they spent in Diagon Alley. If she had to pick a particular moment that was the happiest out of all of them, it was when she met her wand. There was such a connection, so immediate, so magical. It was the moment she knew for sure she was magic.

Happiest memory...well, she had experienced good times previously, but which was the happiest moment in her short life thus far? She had been pretty happy and excited when she received her Hogwarts letter. Perhaps she could use that one? She listened absently to the others who raised their hands and called out their moments.
Oh....oh, she knew which moment she could choose, a memory that involved her mother. Seeing her mother dance for the first time since the accident. She remembered the long, laborious therapy that she had gone through and then the night that she had once again performed in front of a crowd, and received a standing ovation for the number. Then her mother had called her on stage and made a little speech about how Kourtney had helped encourage her when she wanted to give up.
Kourt couldn't remember any other time when she was bursting with such happiness.
Selina was in the midst of finishing up writing her notes down on the corporeal Patronus for her father when her Professor spoke up again. She went on to talk about the correlation between Patronus' and happy memories. Then she asked the class to think and/or share their happiest memories. For Selina, it was a personal. There was no way she was going to share it with the class. Besides it had something to do with her Seer ability. The less people who knew about it the better. In fact, most of the people who knew about her ability were gone now- Bishop, Simon, Elektra. The only people left who knew were Kurumi and Violet.
That thought brought her back to her happiest memory. Without a doubt in her mind it was the moment after Kurumi and Selina swapped secrets about their abilities. The pair of them traveled to Bishop's classroom separately and when Kurumi came running she face-planted straight into Bill, the door.
It was an odd choice for a happy memory, but the two girls had never laughed that hard in their lives. The laughing went on for quite some time and Selina felt accepted. Kurumi was acting normal around Selina even after she knew about her ability. She was cared about... it was a brilliant feeling. Her happiest memory by far.
Happiest memory. It would be something about her Mum. Erin's life would always be about her. She was the best Mum and the only Mum she would ever love that way. Erin’s Mum died when she was 8 because of cancer. That would be her best and strongest memory. It’s her Mum fighting her might to keep living with Erin and her Dad.

Harvey put up his hand "I have many happiest memories of spending time with the one I loved. I could choose one but it would be difficult as they are all strong." he said to his professor when she asked for their happiest memories.

Jory racked his brain for a happy memory. The best and the only one he felt was strong enough was last summer when Hogwarts was over and he had gone back home to his parents and sister. Being a Muggle-born, Jory has to make alot of adjustments to his life of being a wizard and he'd missed his home terribly during his first year.
