| | |  DADA: Know Your Spirit Guardian
The first floor was... certainly busier in a different way than Professor Schirmer's own usual haunt of the third level. Less injured children she supposed, and more Dash. She wondered if the professors of the first floor were more social as a result and made up her mind to befriend the healer. Third floor solidarity.
The classroom she'd chosen for the defense lesson had been one of her favourites as a student, and the tall blonde woman was a little bit dismayed to see how dusty and unused it was. Really, Hogwarts was it so hard to keep yourself clean? Even with elves that were off doing goodness knew what? A few quick charms and minutes later the room was sparkling.
Literally.
Unlike most of the Defense rooms, this one featured bright windows that allowed the light to stream in, diffused with colours and generally giving the room a bright and happy feel. The view looked out over the lake. There were no desks or chairs in the room and even the professor took a seat on the ground, waiting there with her feet tucked up comfortably beneath her for the students to arrive. She had a stack of books next to her and looked serene, if a bit distant.
When it was time, she charmed the doors to open, and greeted the students as they begin to file in. ooc: the lesson will begin approximately 7.5 hours from the time of this post I'm simply opening it now so you can post arriving if you want to. The lesson has begun! Please act as if you were here all along if you haven't yet posted, latecomers will likely lose points. Please remember to follow Professor Schirmer's rules which can be found here. Questions: What do you know, or think you know, about the Patronus Charm?
Discuss amongst yourselves some famous witches and wizards and their known Patronus forms. Given what we know about them; their achievements, their experiences, what do you think their Patronus form indicates about their personalities? For those of you who can cast a Corporeal Patronus and know what form it takes, see if you can match up how it fits your personality. Younger students, you can work with students who do have a known Spirit Guardian, or you can look up mine, which is a Dove, or Headmaster Tate's which is a Mountain Goat, or that of another adult you know, even some of the historical figures we were discussing. "I want you to think of your happiest memory. Something strong enough that you can focus on it easily, maybe something that makes you smile. It doesn't have to be relating to love. If you have more than one, lucky you! You can experiment to see which is best. You don't have to share it if you don't want to, but feel free to put your hand up and share if you do.

The party is still going, you can help yourself to food or drink while we wait for a guest fetched via a patronus message. In the meantime the professor wants to know who can cast a patronus already and whether its corporeal or non-corporeal. PLEASE be realistic with your character's abilities. The patronus charm is ADVANCED magic and little firsties should NOT be able to manage it. For the purposes of this class please pay attention to the following:
6th & 7th years: May be able to cast a corporeal or non-corporeal patronus, depending on character's skill level and experience. May learn how to do one or the other during the lesson.
5th years: May be able to cast non-corporeal patronus, depending on character's skill level and experience, very FEW and RARELY may a 5th year manage a corporeal patronus. May learn how to do one or the other during the lesson.
4th years: Depending on character's skill level and experience, very FEW and RARELY may a 4th year manage a non-corporeal patronus. May learn a non-corporeal patronus during the lesson.
3rd years: Depending on character's skill level and experience, may learn a non-corporeal patronus during the lesson. But its okay for them NOT to learn how yet too.
1st & 2nd years: Depending on character's skill level and experience, may learn an UNSTABLE non-corporeal patronus during the lesson. This means they might manage a slight whisp, but otherwise should NOT be able to cast a patronus. Its okay for them NOT to learn how yet too.
When we get to the spell casting aspect of the lesson, please note that anyone not being realistic may have their post edited or deleted, which I don't WANT to do but we're not all Harry Potter! For reference, Althea learned hers in 6th year non-corporeally, and managed a corporeal patronus in 7th year. Remember, just because your character might not be able to do it yet, it doesn't mean they never will! As you saw, Professor Scabior came because I sent him a Patronus message. What do you think are the benefits of communicating via Patronus? "Alright are you all ready to give it a go? Stand up if you are and make sure you give each other a bit of space. Wands out. The incantation is Expecto Patronum. Ecks-PEK-toh pa-TRO-num. You simply need to point your wand and focus really hard on that strong happy memory. Practice the incantation a few times to get the hang of it and then you may start. Those of you who can already manage it, please do encourage the younger ones and let them see how you do it. I have an activity for you too, that we'll start in a little while!" Please note, I'm waiting to get an all clear regarding the recent Malware threat on SS before continuing, not because of any risk, rather because several people may be staying away right now and I'd rather be sure nobody is left at a disadvantage because they don't feel safe accessing the site. Well, really, they've had stranger enviroments for their lessons here at Hogwarts, however, this was probably one of the most...comfortable; even without desks or chairs to sit in. Who knew Professor Glass would actually hold a lesson in here. However, once glance to the others on the ground had the Slytherin's eyebrows raising in surprise. Oops. Not Professor Glass.
It was Professor Ican'tpronounceyourname.
Blinking, she took a deep, calming breath and smiled. Best to sit down. Since she noticed Marie first, Evelyn sat down next to her, and greeted the professor just before doing so. "Good day, Professor..." Yeeaaaaa.

Her first Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson...
Although Sierra wasn't typically an excitable child, even she couldn't help looking forward to this class. She opened the door to what she thought was just a typical classroom, but then when she stepped inside, she found it literally sparkling. Unlike most people, bright, happy rooms threw Sierra for a loop, and for a moment, she just wanted to slither back to the dungeons where everything was dark and damp.
No chairs either. Hmm. Noticing Professor Schirmer seated on the ground, Sierra also took a seat a considerable distance away. After that look the professor had given her at the snowman building competition, she wasn't sure how to react to the woman. Honestly, though, Sierra hadn't asked for the fate she'd been given.

Lexi pushed all of her CRAP aside and decided a good DADA class was what she needed. MHM. Making her way into the room she stopped right inside the doorway and looked about in AWE. It was the most beautiful thing she had EVER seen. Well, no. That was a lie, but it was MAGICAL.
"Good day, Professor!" she almost squealed with delight. All of her woes forgotten she skipped inside and plopped down in the floor CLOSE to the front. Hehe. She did LOVE DADA after all.

The classroom was absolutely amazing and Arya stood in awe of it by the door for a good moment, mostly at the view of the lake and all the colors. It was such an beautiful view! She wondered if they would be able to use this room when class wasn't in session. And what it looked like at night. Hm.
"Hey, Professor Schirmer." The prefect flashed the woman a bright grin as she moved further into the classroom, crossing her legs as she sat on a spot that allowed her to see both the professor and the lake. Leaning back on her palms, she looked out the large windows, suddenly not caring if the lesson started anytime soon.

Defence Against the Dark Arts. One of Nora's favourite classes, even though professor Glass was a bit... scary? Yes, she was. But she was still anxious to get to the lesson, until... there was no professor Glass. There was only professor Schirmer, who was equally scary from Nora's point of view. Awesome.
"Hello, professor," she said with a smile, when she entered the curiously looking classroom. Looking around, she wasn't sure if she was supposed to sit on the floor or not, so she decided to stand and wait for... something to happen.

When Gideon walked into the DADA classroom, the first thing he noticed was the look of the classroom, the second was the change in professor with the Charms Proffessor in the other woman's place. Kennedy made his way to the DADA classroom. People have said great things about this class, yet he hasn't been fortunate enough to experience it. He entered the room and his mouth fell slightly open.
WOW!
This was like...like one of those cathedrals he's seen on movies. The windows and the light coming through them. Even his mom would have liked if she had been there. He quickly closed him mouth and went inside. Then he saw Professor Schirmer seating on the floor, due to the reason that there weren't any desks or chairs.
Then that reminded him...his egg. Where was it? Did he leave it at the Slytherin table? Did his Pygmy Puff do something to it? He smoothed his hands over the pockets of his robes and sighed a sigh of relief when his hand came in contact with a lump. The egg had been safely tucked in there the whole time.
Hmm...
Was he in the wrong classroom then? He was pretty sure he had gone up to the first floor. Then he realized, maybe Professor Schirmer was teaching DADA as well. Cool.
After the all the awe, egg scare and confusion Kennedy one the ground, where he guessed would be the front row. "Hello, Professor," he greeted and then took out his notebook and a pencil.

She wasn't sure whether it was still Give A Slytherin a Hug Day, but she knew that Sierra could use one. Then she smiled at her and went back to where Penny sat.

If it wasn't for her good grade in her OWL's, she would NOT be coming here. Getting scared half to death by who knows what wasn't exactly her idea of a 'fun lesson'.
But still. This lesson challenged her in a different way to the others. Sure, the others made her get a slight headache but this one really challenged her bravery and courage. Something she had been lacking ever since her first encounter with her neighbour's dog back home.
Kita shook her head and smiled as she walked into the classroom. There was no need to-
Wait... was it usually this bright in here? It looked so pretty in here! So bright and lovely! Maybe she was going to like this class a lot more than she thought she would?
"Good day Professor!" the seventh year said, giving the professor a smile as she made her way across the room slowly. Merlin, it was so pretty in here!
