Eliza came into the house with help from Benjy. "Thank you, Benjy." She sighed and slipped onto the couch. She grabbed a quilt and wrapped it around her. The house was at least 90 or so degrees and even with the blanket, she was shaking because of being cold despite her skin feeling like it was on fire.

Jack overheard the exchange and knew that Elizabeth was still being foolishly prideful, but of course she'd listen to Benjy..if only just to get under her husband's skin. This annoyed him to no end, but he wouldn't say a word, if that's how she wanted it fine.
Instead he stalked off to his garage, the place he always went to blow off steam when his wife was driving him mad. Elizabeth bought him a very old car to fix up, which was his favorite hobby, she'd bought him a 1965 ford mustang, the thing was around a hundred years old...but he was determined to get it up and running again, without magic, so he went at it, opening the hood and tinkering with what was inside.

She felt bad for snapping at Jack but he had no right to treat Benjy like that but that soon went away when she remembered that Jack said that he was gonna give him a chance... guess he lied to her. She sighed and pulled the covers around her more, whimpering a little at the thought.
Carina shivered and went after Jack when he went to the garage. "Its cold here, Pappi." She clung to his legs.

Jack looked down at Carina, he was happy she didn't seem to be mad anymore. "Momma's friend brought some of your sister's old clothes why don't you see if anything in there fits..okay?" He asked offering her a kind smile and shutting the garage door, the cold didn't bother him as much, not after years in places like Nepal or China, living in the mountains made this seem like normal weather to him. He knew he said he'd give the other man a chance but seeing someone who's practically a stranger to you show up with your children sets your teeth on edge and after what Jack had been through no one was to be trusted, especially with his family. They meant more to him than anything.

Jack smiled as she came back, it was hard to feel angry around Carina she was so sweet and looked too much like her mother. Only at least Carina had the good sense not to freeze to death. "Well, you look warm and very pretty." Jack said with a fatherly smile at her, no she as well wasn't his actual daughter but he'd love her as if she were. "So what do you think of my old hunk of junk?" He asked reffering to the car. As he worked on putting A/C into the car, the older ones didn't have it, this was quite a project.

He said chuckling and thinking he never had to explain a compliment to a girl before, they normally just took them. He nodded. "Of course, if you'd like to learn...although it's messy work...how about for now you can pass me tools and tomorrow i'll teach you a bit on the car i have that runs..." Jack could just flick his wand and fix the whole thing but where would the fun in that be?

Jack accepted the tool and noted the worry on her face, he knew that look. It was one of her mother's, they looked so alike it was amazing. He nodded. "Yupp, good job.." He said smiling and twisting something into place with the wrench, his hands full of grease and dirt from touching the engine. "That should do it...next week i'm working on getting it to run off of oils and greases and then i have to make the outside look pretty.." He said moving to the driver's seat and turning it on, feeling the A/C...but it was already cold so he quickly shut it off.

Jack followed Carina in and looked at his wife, wishing she'd only stayed asleep, then she'd have no reason to be mad at him. He looked down at the girl. "Why don't you go sit with Mama while i wash up.." Jack walked up the stairs into his bathroom and washed the grime from his hands..it took quite a bit of scrubbing, he dried off and headed back for the stairs...Passing by Alice's room he silently stepped in to check on her.

Jack walked back downstairs. Seeing the other man sitting in his living room, it was getting late and his wife was ill...this was just bad manners, inviting yourself to stay longer, didn't his mother ever teach him anything? Even Jack's own mother, as awful a mother as she was at least taught him to never outwear your welcome...whatever. He walked into the same room and sat at the desk, writing out the letter to Gavin that he wouldn't be in the rest of the week and for obvious reasons neither would Elizabeth, he remained quiet.
