The door to the charms room is wide open, but as you walk in you will notice that there are not desks, no seats, no professor. Just a big empty room with many glass cabinets around the walls. What could possibly be going on and where would Professor Primeaux be that he wasn't there. As you stand and wait you might notice that there are enough glass cabinets for every student in the school, one right on top of the other.
As the last person comes into the room the door shuts and a voice echos the room. It seems Professor Primeaux had the room charmed to record and play his own voice. "Good morning students. As you might have noticed the room is empty and I have decided not to formally attend at the moment. After the things I have seen from the students here at Hogwarts I've decided you need a test on how much you want to learn and succeed. My job is to teach you, but I can only teach students that want to try and work hard. Your first test directions are on the board in the front of the room."
Writing appears on the board with the direction for the students first activity.

First years I know this is your first lesson in charms so this will be your biggest test. Your fellow students that are older then you especially your student leaders are there to help you, be good role models for you, and show you what a leader and a classmate really is. They should be helping you with the spell if you need it, so do not hesitate to ask. Do not be afraid to fail, it will only help you learn and become better.
Good Luck
OOC: Hello everyone! Just as Julien said he has given your charrie a test right away! What you need to do is have your character do the steps and you can say whether they are doing well or not. Please be realistic about your students age and ability. If they don't make it through that is alright, that is what makes the RP fun everyone being different. You can work alone or with partners. I will be posted quoting your post once you have RP'd the steps (each step should be a post, so four post at the minimum) with the number code and the entrance into the next step. Have fun and any questions please let me know. Julien might not physically be there, but he would never leave a group of students unsupervised fully. If you have not made yourself and your charrie aware of his rules, please do so here.
Just to Clarify!
Some of you have messaged me today so I wanted to ease your concerns!
1. Breath there is no deadline at the moment. I'm going with the flow of the Rp's right now. If I need to put a time I will give you a 24 hour notice maybe longer!
2. Work at your own pace!PLEASE don't get overwhelmed by the post count. I have not posted any directions other than right here! So read here and go have fun! I don't want anyone missing out because they see seven + pages and think they are too far behind. YOU ARE NOT!! I promise!
2. No, not every student is expected to know these spells like above it is okay to play a first year failing, or any Charrie really. At the end everyone will be allowed into the last area!
3. Thank you for having fun! I'm so enjoying reading these so far.
There comes a time where things do need to wrap up! I would like to move on Tuesday, January 12. So I will be closing room 1 and 2 at that point. You will have until Tuesday at 3 p.m. EST to finish up on any of your post! Once these are closed it will be said that door have opened for your character to just go straight to the classroom! Remember it is okay if your character did not get all the way through!!
Echo was moving along nicely and was very pleased with how things were going. Looking around she saw a younger girl that seemed a bit shakey. ughh this girl was tugging on her heart strings. which was werid because she thought that she didn't have a heart. "shrug"
Moving her way over to the girl with her box in hand she waited to see what the girl had accomplished. "Hey, Im Echo. Need some help?" she asked while seeing that the cabinet didn't open.
"it sounds like your incantation isn't right?? its Alo-Ho-Mora. theres the HO not HA? maybe that's your issue?" smile at the girl Echo smile at her, don't make it look like your so evil.
It seemed as though there were now quite a few older students who had made progress, and undoubtedly so. Altha hoped that they would be able to do it. It seemed simple enough, if she'd just been shown the wand movement...
And while she peered around the room, trying to catch a glimpse of a student making progress, a voice came from behind her. Altha turned to face a girl who was clearly older than herself, and introduced herself as Echo.
"Alo-HO-Mora," Altha mimicked, trying her best to hide her snarled expression. For a moment it had annoyed her that she had to have help, but she quickly forced herself to hide that fact. The professor wasn't even there, she shouldn't hide the fact that she didn't know what she was doing.
Mimicking the wand movements she'd seen around her, and with all her concentration on the lock, she carefully pronounced, "Alohomora!" briskly and calmly, and just as Echo had told her to do so.
Click!
A satisfied grin crept across her face, and she turned to Echo. "Thanks, Echo. I'm Altha." she said, now feeling very pleased with herself. Even a hint of appreciation stirred inside Altha, and she tried to smile the best she could.
Charms class. Janelle was ready or thought she was ready for the first Charms class of the year with their new Professor. She walked into the classroom full of enthusiasm and stopped short. There was no Professor to be seen, which was not that unusual. However, the lack of desks and the presence of many glass cabinets piqued her interest. What would they be doing today?
Janelle found a spot and leaned against the wall, waiting for the arrival of the Professor. The Professor never arrived., but his voice did. Apparently they were being tested and admonished for the feast shenanigans. Janelle read the instructions on the board that explained what the class would need to do. Multiple spells, with no direction and about a million first years in the room who didn't know anything? This was going to be fun. With a sigh, Janelle got straight to work.
Walking over to an unclaimed cabinet, Janelle took out her wand. She took a moment to concentrate on the task at hand, although she was pretty confindent about this spell. Directing her wand at the cabinet and giving it an appropriate swish, she said, "Alohomora" Reaching for the cabinet door, Janelle was happy to see that it opened easily.
About to remove her box from the cabinet, Janelle noticed a nearby first year having trouble with the spell. She walked over to the girl, watching as she attempted the spell. "Hi, I'm Janelle. Do you need some help?" Hoping that the girl wouldn't be offended, Janelle continued. It always helps me to concentrate on what I'm trying to do first. Picture the lock opening in your mind and keep focusing on that. Then you have to say the incantation with confidence........like you mean it and you expect it to work. "Al-loh-ho-mor-uh""Like that. Try it. Believe you can do it and you will."

Watching the brunette and fellow lion cast the S as needed, the red-head held her breath. Come on, come on. She thought, patiently wait to se- YES! Jumping slightly on the spot she cheered on Mel with a huge grin. ”Congratulations Melon!” She said, extactic. WASN’T SHE AMAZING?
Looking to the other side of her, just to make sure that everyone was okay and she wasn’t ignoring anyone who looked like they were going to cry - she couldn’t handle tears - Marsha smiled at the girl who looked desperately confused.
”Hi. I’m Marsha, and this is my cousin Melbourne.” Well. It was easier than her Uncle’s ward… heehehe Ward. Cough. Right, charms. ”It’s pronounced al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah.” The Welsh third year said it slowly to see if the that helped Lucy. ”What I usually do is practise the pronounciation of a spell or charm before I even consider putting it together with your wand work. Usually, that means less chances of back firing magic.”
She smiled encouragingly at the first year and motioned for her to try saying it with each syllable. ”Then, once you have it like that - you put it together to say it as you would when you cast. Alohamora.” She nodded her head and waited for the girl to repeat it back to her. ”When I started school, one of the best things I got told,” Thank you Cutty. ”Was to imagine what you want to happen. Your wand is channelling what you want to do, so when you point your wand at the cabinet, you need to draw an S shape in the air, say the charm and imagine the cabinet opening for you.”
It was a lot to take in, but hopefully that helped? She cast a glance at Melon and smiled. If she wanted to close her cabinet she could - but she was going to wait so that she could show the Ravenclaw.

Sha was even MORE amazing really. She was like her cousin and then she saw another girl who looked a bit…stressed? Watching Sha move closer to the girl Mel did the name.
COUSIN? Did she say Cousin? Mel’s smile broadened again and all she wanted to do was give Sha a BIG old hug because…well, obviously it meant that Thunder viewed her like a kid and that was just…she loved Thunder. Really. He was going to get ALL the boy related questions not her silly brothers. They were silly. “Hi,” she smiled at the other girl as today was a beautiful day and she had cousins in school with her! “If you need help I’ll practice with you…I probably need more work too” she admitted with a grin after all learning the spell wasn’t the hard part…it was making it become fluid like a muscle memory that was the hard part.
So...why wasn't the cabinet unlocking? Lucy had no idea magic would be harder than what she expected. Clowns did it, for goodness sake. And they didn't even use fake wands.
Then, she found herself surrounded by older girls offering her pretty much the same advice. Which was totally a good thing because that's how you knew it was the truth, if more than one person said so. Lucy smiled up at them and the other girl who looked more her age. "Thanks."
"Al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah," she repeated to the girls. "Al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah?" Okay, it made sense that she had to pronounce the funny word correctly for it to work. What was new information to her - well, everything was new, but this especially - was that she had to wave her wand....not in a wave? In an 'S'? That was a thing?
Lucy pictured the cabinet opening, waved her wand in an 'S' in front of it, and said, "Alohamora,"correctly this time. Then reached out and...shook the cabinet door as it was still locked. She looked up at the older girls expectantly because....it didn't work.

Opening the cabinet, Esme reached inside and carefully pulled out the box. So this was what contained the key to the next room. She was more curious than ever to see what was inside.
Carefully she set the box down on the ground by her feet before closing the cabinet door. She was about to lock it when she heard a younger student struggling. Smiling, Esme bent over and picked up her wand.
"I can help you if you want." She could remember how it felt to be a First Year and it WAS the first Charms lesson. The Professor had definitely chosen a good way to test their skills.
Way to go, Sir.
Hopefully he would arrive soon though she had a feeling that he wouldn't appear until they finished the tests. She couldn't wait to see what else was in store for them!!
Trixie was just thinking about giving the spell another try when her saviour arrived. Thank Merlin for that otherwise she probably would be setting her hair on fire soon. She had already singed an eyebrow.
"Oh could you? That would be great." Trixie gushed as she bent down to pick up her wand. "I don't know what I am doing wrong."

Jace has been silent all that time as he listened carefully to his teacher. Did the opening feast upset him too? Because...why subject them to a test already, when the teacher’s supposed to teach them first, right? But then again, he’s a Ravenclaw like his papa, so he is confident he’ll get through this test with flying colours. He has been practicing basic spells ever since he stepped in school, and he did come across the two particular basic spells in front of him.
Turning, he approached his cabinet, and got his wand from his holster. The confidence and focus his cherry wand gives, made the half Japanese relax more, and more headstrong to get the job done. Jace went through the spell’s definition and history inside his head, as he muttered the spell under his breath. He’s thankful too that his ‘r’s are rolling off better now, than four years ago. “Alohomora.”
Alohomora. Unlock. Open.
Jace concentrated on his cabinet, and performed the spell with confidence. “Alohomora.”Click. Jace pulled the handle, but was surprised to find it still locked.
Groan.

Ariadne sighed as she overheard somebody talking in the background. Some lucky person was getting a demonstration from an older student! She wished SHE had been offered a demonstration from an older student! As she read through her book, she saw a pair of shoes directly next to her, and looked up to see an older boy looking toward her. He had been the one offering to help, and SHE was the lucky student!
Ariadne slapped her book shut and put it back in her bag. "That would be awesome!" she said, scurrying to her feet. "Thank you! I'm Ariadne Greingoth, by the way." He should know her name if he'd be helping her! That way, if she was doing something wrong and was about to cause an explosion or something, he'd know whose name to call out!
Ohh, this looked SO EASY! Ariadne could do this! She pointed her wand toward the cabinet. "Alohomora!" she said. No movement. Just an incantation. When nothing happened, she looked back at the boy with a disappointed look on her face. "Was there some kind of wand movement with that?"
"Ariadne," he repeated, trying to commit the girl's name to memory. "I'm Thornton. And no problem, happy to."
Thornton took his box out of the cabinet and closed the door. He turned the box over in his hand, looking it over. He'd have to unlock this too, but it was something that would have to wait. He was distracted, turning back to look at Ariadne at her question.
"Oh, sorry," he said, looking to the lock and then his wand. He'd clearly done it too fast. "It's hard to notice. It's sorta of a subtle backward 's' but really quick"**. He re-demonstrated the movement, slower this time.
"Got it?"
ooc: I used the pottermore wiki wand movement that a charms spell list in the SS archive linked to.

"Got it?"
She nodded when he said her name correctly. Sometimes people didn't, which ended in her being called Ariana, Anna, etc., etc. It was nice to be called ARIADNE. "Nice to meet you, Thornton," she said. That was when she caught sight of his badge, and her eyes widened. "You're a prefect!" she exclaimed. "Awesome!" She was being assisted by a prefect, which ensured she was going to be perfect at this!
She watched him take his own box out the cabinet and wished she could take her own out, as well. She looked at it locked up inside the cabinet with nothing but glass to protect it. She didn't want to test this theory, but she was sure some kind of magic prevented her from just busting the glass wide open.
She nodded along as he went through the demonstration. "Got it!" she remarked. "Okay, a really quick, backwards S. I can do this." She whipped her wand around really quickly as she formed a backwards S. "ALOHOMORA!!!" she shouted. Yeah. She was really getting into this. Her efforts were followed by a clicking sound, and the cabinet opened. She retrieved the box and held it up in pride like they held up Simba in the beginning of The Lion King.
The idea of robes had seemed like so much fun at first. After all, they were formal and traditional and had looked, well, just really cool when Ailsa had tried hers on in her bedroom back home.
In practice, however, the firstie was coming to realise that there was a reason why people didn't wear Inverness capes indoors and that this reason applied equally well to wizarding robes. What a ridiculous requirement... she thought as she carefully unhooked her draping robe sleeve from where it had caught against a random door handle while she walked to her Charms class.
She suppressed those thoughts as she entered the classroom though. Whether she thought it ridiculous or not, abiding by the rules tended to make things run more smoothly.
Ailsa quietly selected a cabinet within view of Haddie and Rachel, but also with a clear shot at the exit just in case Haddie went over all, well, Haddie, again. The professor's voice playing as the door closed wasn't too much of a shock. Muggle shops had automated recordings that gave the same effect, if through a different method. The writing appearing on the chalkboard was still quite cool though.
The scourgify charm had been useful on the farm, which had come in very handy after the feast, but there wasn't a terrible amount of use for locking and unlocking charms as far out in the country as her family lived. No, this time the girl would have to learn on the fly. And so she did what she always did in these situations. She opened a book.
A few minutes later, having carefully read the charm's entry, she fished her wand out of the pocket she'd sewn into the inside of her robe and had a go.
"aLOhoMORah!" The cabinet rattled slightly, like trying the wrong key in a muggle lock, but the door remained firmly fastened. OK then.
She was close, but not quite there. Practicing her wand motion again without verbalizing the charm, she compared it to the book's example and made a few tweaks to the tightly controlled movements.

Everyone else seemed bothered by the idea of being tested before anything else. In contrast, it made Brooklyn respect the absent professor even more. That and she was determined not to fail at the task he’d set before them. Unlocking charms and locking charms were simple, after all. She barely would have to focus to accomplish those, although the intent in not failing meant she would anyhow. She was going to focus intently, and not let anyone else bother her. Something she was relatively good at, except for when it came to certain people. She wasn’t going to let them bother her this time. Nor was she planning on letting anyone trick her, like she saw that Ravenclaw do to Maggie.
No, she walked over to the cabinet, eyes only on the lock although she was prepared to glare at anyone who got in her way. Luckily, her path was relatively easy and she readied her wand without too much difficulty. “Alohomora,” she said, aiming her wand at the lock and visualizing it opening. Shortly afterward, she heard a click and the latch opened at the touch of her hand. Reaching inside, she wrapped her hand around the small box and pulled it out. Step one down, now to retrieve the code to get into the next room.

Azura was nearly beside herself with happiness! She couldn't believe that she had done it on her first time, and her purple eyes were bright with happiness and excitement! She did refrain from hugging the older boy though!
She nodded "Yes, I think that is the next part.. opening the chest." The smaller Ravenclaw also checked the board before paying careful attention to her older friend.
"Alo HO mora.. Got it." Azura repeated the spell to herself. She had done it the first time, but she wasn't sure if that was a fluke or not!!
Her purple eyes were fixed on Austin as he took the box and held onto it.. and then opened it with the spell!!
"Okay, I think I've got it!" She hoped at least! She held her box in her left hand and then with her right held her wand, pointed it at the box and then..
"Alohomora! She said and her purple eyes went wide as it worked again!!! "EEEEEEE!!! It worked again!! Thank you Austin!!" She was almost tempted to hug him again! But instead she just jumped happily around and then she spotted Jasper! She shot him a smile that could have lit a thousand lighthouses! She was that happy!
She was doing really well for a first year. Seeing how happy she was made him smile. It was nice to know he had a hand in that. "Great job! You really seem to get the hang of this. Just don't forget: The pronunciation is key with spells. Even a wrong letter could end up with the wrong spell." This was similar to potions. Adding the wrong ingredient or waiting too long could end up with a failed potion. Nothing frustrated Austin more when he got the potion wrong. Especially when it was an easy one.
Now that the two had gotten their box open it was only a matter of what was inside. When he opened it, he found a code for the door. That wasn't so hard. "Hey, Azura," He said turning to her. "You're more than welcome to head on through. I'm going to stay here and help some of the first years who don't quite have it. I'm glad I could help."

Haddie was seeking help from an older student, Hady, which left Rachel with free time. Her attention was immediately attracted by Henric. "Thank you, Henric. Your girlfriend helped a lot which is surprising since she doesn't like me.'' She would usually things in a straight forward manner.
From her position, the young Eagle could see Ailsa. She smiled at the other girl in an encouraging manner.
There was one Eagle who was always on her own and Rachel was yet to figure if Olivia liked being by herself or if she had a difficult time making friends. "Do you need help, Olivia?'' she asked when she had gone closer to the girl. "Perhaps you can recheck your wand movement and the amount of intensity you put on the spell. It worked for me.''

Kat was so frustrated. She blew on her wand maybe the tip had a bit of dust. Did that even matter? The first year just looked around, lost. She knew she was saying it right. She heard the others saying it too. It was the wand movement she didn't know. Surely that was the problem. Now she just needed to find someone that could help her. A senior student perhaps.
Katerina spotted a older Slytherin girl near by. Perfect. She watched her sideways. Wow she knew what she was doing. The first year inched over to her and watched her complete the first step. She knew what she was doing clearly. Kat didn't quiet catch the wand movement. She was going to try this again. She cleared her throat again rather loudly. Hopefully getting the older girls attention. "Alohomora!" poking the lock on the cabinet. Big sigh. Ugh. She turned and smiled at the girl. "Mmm hi. Can you show me the wand movement to Alohomora, please?" She poked her bottom lip out slightly. Not over killing it there. See Kat knew what to say she just didn't know what to do with her wand.

Olivia heard offers for help both from older students she had met and those she hadn’t. She was about to answer one of them when a younger voice spoke up calling her by name and she turned to spot Rachel there. “I think I do,” she admitted, since she thought she had been doing everything right with no result. Listening to the other girl’s advice, the first year double checked her wand movement and upon finding it slightly off, corrected it.
Now intensity…that was harder to judge.
She took a deep breath and tried to focus all her thoughts and intent on the spell and action at hand. Will it to happen like she had jested in her attempt with words. With that done, she tried once more with her corrected wand movement. “Alohomora!” she cast, placing her emphasize on the right points in the words. This time there was a difference. This time there was a…
…click.
“Thanks Rachel!” she said with a smile at her dormmate. “It worked!” she added excitedly as she opened up the cabinet and reached up to retrieve the box inside.

Janelle was ready to open her box, but she happened to notice the little first year having some difficulty. She seemed to be doing everything right, but her cabinet had not opened. Turning to the younger girl, she offered encouragement. "You're getting the hang of it. Just keep practicing and don't lose your focus. You'll get it. Sometimes it takes a few tries for everything to click." Sometimes it took a lot more than a few tries, but Janelle kept that to herself. She didn't want to crush her confidence.
In the meantime, Janelle put her box back on the floor and dropped to her knees. The box had to be opened and she might as well get comfortable. Concentrating, she carefully carried out the wand movement and said, "Alohomora". Janelle made sure she said the incantation clearly, taking care to pronounce each syllable correctly. Since she was trying to set a good example, she had to get it right.
Fortunately, when Janelle checked, the box was unlocked. Now all she had to do was find the code inside of the box and make sure that the other girl completed her task too.

Of course! His intention and spell were good alright, but he did forget about following through a spell. Spells will not work if it was lifted and assumed right after executing it, right? Jace’s theory made sense to him of course, but he needed to try it out again to prove his point.
“Alohomora.”
Jace held his breath and waited for the lock to open.
Click.
Tilting his head to the side, Jace reached out and pulled open the cabinet slowly...and retrieved a small box inside. Once out, he gently closed the cabinet again, and tried to lock it with a locking charm. “Colloportus.” The lock rattled in an odd way, making Jace step back away from the cabinet. Obviously, the locking charm didn’t work as it should.
Jace comically scratched the back of his head, wondering where he went wrong this time.

Henric might feel bad.....no...Henric was more likely pleased with her right? She helped baby bird and was sort of nice to her....even if the little chirp was a brat. "I wouldn't feel flattered, Rachel. After all, we are supposed to help those less experienced than ourselves. Besides, I'm sure he'll love that we are spending time on each other." She winked playfully at the younger girl. If Henric had an issue....after everything they had been through together the past two years, she would think he'd let her know. She would remember it.....hmm. Ilia considered her and nodded not unkindly. "Hopefully it helps you." Really, she actually honestly did want to help her. Part of it because, she liked everyone to feel good about themselves. Partly....because well, the girl might have chosen to hate her, but she couldn't say it was because Ilia had not helped her.
See? Henric was happy with her helping and Rachel the chirp succeeding. She was trying to be a good girlfriend....
She was getting caught up on details a little early and Ilia resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her 'I know that' reply. If you 'know' the answer then why are you asking kid? Still, Ilia's expression didn't change and she fiddled with the box in her hand. Random numbers were the key to their test hmm? What was this, Arithmancy?
She looked over to make sure that Henric had gotten his smaller box open too, and she smiled as she saw him eyeing the numbers. "Good job. On your first try and everything. Use those wand muscles." She smiled as she playfully teased him. And there he was , offering to help the little ones again. What Rachel said next though, really surprised her. Mostly admitting that she'd helped the child, not so surprised with the dislike mention. The latter part she just shrugged off , but she retained a small smile. Yes, she was slightly pleased at the moment.
"LOOK, THORNTON!" she said. "I DID IT!"
The Ravenclaw was no stranger to his name being mispronounced, shortened, or just plain forgotten, so he tried to be good about other people's. Thornton smiled at the girl's success, as well as her enthusiasm for his prefect badge, still holding onto his small box. This was a much more positive prefect experience than anything else so far.
"To lock it back up, you'll use Colloportus. The wand movement is like this..." Thornton drew the shape in the air with his wand much more slowly than one would cast, having learned from the previous attempt.
While Charms was easily Thornton's best subject, teaching it clearly was not. But he was certainly going to try. "Watch.."
And with a precise wand movement and a clearly spoken incantation, Thornton had locked the cabinet.

The problem with tests, assessments and really ANY kind of challenge... was that he was lost in his own little world. So unless someone was going to poke him, they no longer existed at the present time. It was him and the box, people, him and the box.
He inspected the box quickly, looking over it's sides, but then moved to secure the cabinet door from which it came. "Colloportus," he cast at it, content with the soft clicking sound it made to indicate it was locked. He tested it with his hand, just in case... but was quick to move on after he was successful.
...
Somehow though, it was no longer just him and his box, there were others in the room... and there was too much voice... and pleas for help. Sigh.
"Hey," he greeted the ickle Gryffindor. Yeah. You. Hi. "Don't be nervous, if you have uncertainties it might not work, speak confidently and clearly," he started with a general tip, yes. Simples, right? "Also make sure your intention is clear, visualise in your mind what you want to happen.... then, point and try again."
Bella really tried to figure out what she was doing wrong. She didn't expect the spell to work on her very first try, but the second would have been nice. Third time's the charm, right? Oh man, she really hoped so. She was a more hesitant to try again until a fellow older Gryffindor came to her rescue.
"Easier said than done," she replied, softly. This wasn't like her to be this nervous, but his words help a lot. It was a simple spell and she could do it. She just need to follow his advice. Bella quietly went over the spell in her head, making sure she had the right pronunciation. “Thank you. I’ll try again.”
A-lo-ha-mo-ra! A-lo-ho-mo-ra!
Well there was one problem. She was saying it slightly wrong, which was an easy fix.
“Alohomora!” Bella said, with a little more confident as she pointed her wand at the cabinet.
Nothing!
Okay, so third time wasn’t always a charm; however, that definitely felt difference. She was sure she was going to get it. "I can do this."

Which, of course, meant they were going to go enjoy themselves, even if Callum was still peeved with the class activity itself. He was determined to make his time enjoyable as well as meaningful, just as it would have been if he had gone off on his own, but he had expectations that this would be better since he got to do it with Davie rather than by himself.
He did not mind the shoulder-patting, but the bit about the handcuffing made Callum give the Ravenclaw a questioning look, and then he laughed. "No. No, you did not," he continued to laugh, opening the classroom door and holding it open for Davie when they got there. It was certainly a story he wanted to hear, though.
"I'll have to tell you at dinner later," David nodded confidently. He'd thought that the handcuffing detention was the worst experience of his life. But looking back on it, he'd actually made a good friend in the process. Maybe Callum could experience the same, only with Charms?
So, looking at the cabinets. Davie led the way over to two adjacent ones, and paused with his wand, waiting for Callum to do the same. The boy didn't even need to ask for help; he just needed to be his usual bright self. "So Alohomora is the thieves' incantation, and it's quite simple and straightforward. You just concentrate on the lock. Picture it opening, or at least I do, and give it a small tap." Maybe there was a bit of a swish with the tap, but Davie didn't say that out loud because he wasn't 100% sure about it or how to describe it. He just knew how to do it.
"Watch." He straightened up, concentrated on his cabinet, and gave it a quick swish and tap, as he said, "Alohomora." The cabinet unlocked with a happy, loud click, and David turned to smile at Callum. "You try!"
He kind of liked helping other students, surprisingly.

The charms' room looked weird, all bare and no desks. But Cornelius Orion Baltazar was TIRED of desks so this was kind of cool. Especially the mysterious aura around. With his wand behind his ear, Cornelius had wandered around his classmates until a deep voice spoke out of nowhere. The Slytherin boy's legs took him around the room quicker, this time curiously searching for the owner of the voice. He openly stared at some of the older students, but no one seemed to match the voice. With a wrinkle of his forehead and a scrunch of his nose, he studied the room, the walls.
No adult in sight.
This could be possibly dangerous. Only possibly because no authority meant freedom. Freedom usually mean to no pants, but people around meant pants. So the next idea that popped into Cornelius' head was to cast the spells he's been itching to cast. This was the perfect time, no?
The wheels in his head paused as instructions were set.
A POP QUIZ??????????????
WERE YOU KIDDING HIM?! UGH. This was SO U N F A I R.
The boy rolled his eyes so hard his vision blurred. How was THIS fair? He scowled at the glass cabinets. Slowly his frown smoothed over, his lips tugging at the corners. Hey. This was actually a pretty cool activity. He could pretend he was 007 and was in this super secret mission AND HE HAD TO FIND SECRET CODES BEFORE THE TIME RAN OUT.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh!
Quickly shrugging his satchel to the floor, Cornelius dropped to his knees, dramatically searching his bag for his charms text book. There it was! He slammed the book, opening it at the back, his finger rapidly searching the index.
Alohomora...Alohomora...Aloho--FOUND IT. THERE.
Coming from a famous and affluent family the boy has received a strict education and, even though he hasn't cast magic, he's memorized spells out of habit, but that didn't stop him from his dramatics and wild imagination.
"Alo-ho-mo-ra," he sounded out, hand reaching for his wand. Come ON, Cornelius. You gonna die if you don't do this. "Alohomora!" he said strongly with a flick of his wand toward a glass cabinet. "Alohomora!!!"
"I'll have to tell you at dinner later," David nodded confidently. He'd thought that the handcuffing detention was the worst experience of his life. But looking back on it, he'd actually made a good friend in the process. Maybe Callum could experience the same, only with Charms?

"I look forward to it," Callum replied brightly. That meant Davie wanted to talk to him more and he now had someone to sit with at dinner tonight. The day was certainly looking brighter already, and Callum felt more and more at ease, even as they stepped back inside the room he had not wanted to return to any time soon.
Following Davie over to the cabinets, Callum removed his wand from its holster, holding it in both hands and twirling it in his grip nonchalantly as he watched and listened to Davie's demonstration and instructions. He nodded along - yes, he knew what the spell was, but the additional tips Davie had were quite helpful, and Callum watched with a slight squint as Davie made it look very easy to unlock his cabinet. "That was brilliant," Callum applauded genuinely, a smile crinkling the corners of his eyes.
Now he just had to replicate that. No big deal.
He gave a nod to Davie's encouragement, facing his own cabinet, and giving it a good, hard look. He tried to emulate what Davie had said he did and imagine the lock itself opening. When he had a good mental image of what he wanted to do, Callum raised his wand confidently, copied Davie's small swish first, then gave the lock a tap with the tip as he spoke, "Alohomora!"
Quite to his surprise, the lock clicked open, and Callum's eyes widened slightly as he turned to give Davie an incredulous look. "I got it!" Right there, on the first try! Could have only been because Davie had explained it so well and made it much easier for Callum to copy his success, but he also turned the incredulous look to his wand, too. Oh, how he thanked his sweet wand of sycamore and griffin claw core for not making him look like a complete incompetent fool in front of David Truebridge.

So his cabinet was locked, and Olly was still holding the box in his hand. He did exactly as the instructions had said and opened the box. It locked, like the cabinet had been. Why? They had already proven they could use the spell by opening the cabinet. He supposed it was just reinforcing the lesson or test or whatever. Olly didn't mind. He knew he would have no problems doing the spell again.
"Alohomora." The box unlocked easily. Olly opened it to find just a small slip of paper with numbers on it. The numbers that would take him through the door. He did as he had seen a few others and made his way over to the door. As he passed, he noticed how far each student had gotten. There were all mostly at the same place, just opening their boxes to get the code. Soon, they would all be done with the test and moving through the now locked door. Olly wondered what was behind it. Hopefully not another test. But he would know soon enough. The second year typed his code into the pad beside the door so it would let him in.

When Hady approached the boy, Maggie decided that there were more important things to consider herself with, though.
Like that box.
With a sigh – this was a rather boring lesson so far to be honest – Maggie set the box down on the floor in front of her. She then took a few steps back (who knew what was IN that box besides the number code after all) and waved her wand at it. "Alohomora!" There. No big deal.
The numbers in your box glows 5, 2, 4, 7 . You may use these to head to the next room.

Holding his box at arms length, Zeke pointed his wand at it's seams. "Alohamora," he cast for the second time this lesson, and sure enough....
CLICK.
Looking up to see how some of the others were progressing, Zeke's gaze landed on Maggie... unlocking another guys box. Well then. She didn't want to unlock his? Pity. Although, on further inspection it hadn't been intentional, seeing as the weird Ravenclaw dashed away with barely an acknowledgement.
Righto then.

Rachel smiled at Olivia. "Yes, you did. Excellent work, Olivia, you're welcome,'' she told the other girl. "You can follow that bit of tip for the rest of the spells, too.'' She was certain it would help and even she planned to continue following it.
She wandered back to where she had been standing with Haddie and Ilia with Henric and Ailsa nearby. She beckoned Ailsa closer as she examined her box. She still had to open this one.
"Alohomora.'' She put as much intent in as she could but nothing happened. "Alohomora.'' The box remained shut. Rachel took a deep breath and refocused. "Alohomora.'' The box sprang open and she was able to see numbers within.

Still smiling, Esme nodded. She did not mind helping, she just felt that it was better to see if the person WANTED help first. Some people were very independent.
Like her.
The only person she didn't mind helping her was Juno because they were twins.
"No problem! So you're doing the correct wand movement, but it needs to be a little more fluid." Esme did a demonstration. "It's as if the wand is an extension of my arm." This part could be a little harder to grasp when new to magic. "Try to focus REALLY hard on unlocking the cabinet when you cast."

The numbers glowed from his box as Oliver inspected them again, he needed to be absolutely certain they were correct, of course. It would be so embarrassing if he tried to get into the other room but used the wrong combination. He would be denied entrance. There would probably be some sort of beep that would alert the entire class to his failure. That would be a problem. But there were only four numbers, so how hard could it be.
Olly repeated them to himself in his head. The keypad was right there, so it wasn't like he had to remember for long. His fingers quickly pressed 9, 3, 8, and finally the six. As soon as the door opened to allow him entry into the next room, Olly hurried through excitedly. He wanted to know what sort of things the next room would hold.
