Default Charms Lesson 1, Room 1

The door to the charms room is wide open, but as you walk in you will notice that there are not desks, no seats, no professor. Just a big empty room with many glass cabinets around the walls. What could possibly be going on and where would Professor Primeaux be that he wasn't there. As you stand and wait you might notice that there are enough glass cabinets for every student in the school, one right on top of the other.

As the last person comes into the room the door shuts and a voice echos the room. It seems Professor Primeaux had the room charmed to record and play his own voice. "Good morning students. As you might have noticed the room is empty and I have decided not to formally attend at the moment. After the things I have seen from the students here at Hogwarts I've decided you need a test on how much you want to learn and succeed. My job is to teach you, but I can only teach students that want to try and work hard. Your first test directions are on the board in the front of the room."

Writing appears on the board with the direction for the students first activity.

Inside the box will be the number code to get into the next room. You can not get into the next room without using the numbers. Each number code will permit one person through.

First years I know this is your first lesson in charms so this will be your biggest test. Your fellow students that are older then you especially your student leaders are there to help you, be good role models for you, and show you what a leader and a classmate really is. They should be helping you with the spell if you need it, so do not hesitate to ask. Do not be afraid to fail, it will only help you learn and become better.

Good Luck

OOC: Hello everyone! Just as Julien said he has given your charrie a test right away! What you need to do is have your character do the steps and you can say whether they are doing well or not. Please be realistic about your students age and ability. If they don't make it through that is alright, that is what makes the RP fun everyone being different. You can work alone or with partners. I will be posted quoting your post once you have RP'd the steps (each step should be a post, so four post at the minimum) with the number code and the entrance into the next step. Have fun and any questions please let me know. Julien might not physically be there, but he would never leave a group of students unsupervised fully. If you have not made yourself and your charrie aware of his rules, please do so here.

Just to Clarify!

Some of you have messaged me today so I wanted to ease your concerns!

1. Breath there is no deadline at the moment. I'm going with the flow of the Rp's right now. If I need to put a time I will give you a 24 hour notice maybe longer!

2. Work at your own pace!PLEASE don't get overwhelmed by the post count. I have not posted any directions other than right here! So read here and go have fun! I don't want anyone missing out because they see seven + pages and think they are too far behind. YOU ARE NOT!! I promise!

2. No, not every student is expected to know these spells like above it is okay to play a first year failing, or any Charrie really. At the end everyone will be allowed into the last area!

3. Thank you for having fun! I'm so enjoying reading these so far.

There comes a time where things do need to wrap up! I would like to move on Tuesday, January 12. So I will be closing room 1 and 2 at that point. You will have until Tuesday at 3 p.m. EST to finish up on any of your post! Once these are closed it will be said that door have opened for your character to just go straight to the classroom! Remember it is okay if your character did not get all the way through!!

Henric chuckled and winked back at llia, "I know." Hmm? Didn't she like how he tried to act chivalrous by locking the boxes away for her? He pouted slightly. She seemed rather put out a little by his actions. He knew she was perfectly capable to do it on her own but she could always rely on him whenever, right? Sometimes, her boyfriend liked to be relied upon. Oh well...he tried...

He listened carefully when llia explained their next step after receiving their secret code numbers. "Oh brilliant! Let's go then! I'm quite thrilled to find out what's our next test will be. After you, llia." He grinned broadly. Then suddenly, llia made a reference from one of his muggle favourite old time movies, LOTR! Henric couldn't help but chuckle at her attempt of Gandalf. "Why these numbers though? Can we just enter by saying the Elvish word for 'friend', how easy would that be!"he laughed, feeling proud that his girlfriend remembered the scene in the movie. She was getting great at it!

"Alright, what's the number for mine.....4, 6, 7, 3! OPEN SE-SA-ME!" he recited his pass code. Another muggle movie reference for you, llia.

Default Post 4 I think.... O.o... numbers please?

Jasper glared at the box in his hand, waiting.

He had pulled it out of the cabinet, managed to lock the cabinet... and now what? Nothing was happening!!! Everyone else seemed to be having success with spells and he'd struggled through casting them until finally noting that perfection was in fact a requirement of this subject.

Now his box didn't want to give him his numbers.

Go figure.

He contemplated just walking out for a minute before just glaring at the box in his hand again.

"Please?" he asked it somewhat pathetically...

SHe'd already gotten the hang of that one, so they were pretty much done with this room and ready for the next one!

"Hmm, yeah. I better put this on the floor," she said, looking at her little box. She had nailed her first try at the charm, but it wasn't like she was perfect or anything. She put the box down by her feet and stepped back a little. Ariadne whipped her wand around in that same backwards S motion. "ALOHOMORA!" she called out.

Another clicking sound was heard, and Ariadne's box was open, too!
Slip of paper with numbers in hand, Thornton watched Ariadne finish her task as well. Good. But now, as he looked as his slip of paper and then at her, he wondered... was he meant to stay with her the whole time?

It wasn't that he minded; he didn't. But he also didn't know if others would need help beyond that door.

"I'm going to head through," he explained, having come to a decision. "If once you see what's in the next room, you still need help, let me know." He didn't want to over assist. The girl was certainly showing that she was capable.

Moving to the door, Thornton spoke his numbers aloud and headed through to the next room.

SPOILER!!: Carl!
Honestly, Carl would not have succeeded in the locking charm if Hady had not encouraged him. He might have given up and waited lamely for the end of the lesson, but he did not lose courage thanks to the older girl.

He nodded back and said, "Nice to meet you too, Hady. And yeah, I will ask you for help if I am lost." Which made him wonder ... what could be in the next room? Possibly tests that required the use of harder charms. Carl would definitely need assistance then.

But now, his task was to unlock the box. With more confidence than his previous attempts at the unlocking charm, Carl aimed his wand at the box and inhaled, preparing to say the incantation, when he changed his mind. Maybe it would be better to put his box down on the ground like Hady did, so that he had a better aim. Kneeling down, he did so and pointed his wand at the lock again. "Alohomora!" He said clearly and firmly.

With another clicking sound, the box unlocked itself. The First Year glanced excitedly at the Slytherin before opening it up.

Hady gave Carl a slight smile. If he needed anything she was always around to help. It's what older students were meant to do. Assist the younger ones. Watching quietly as set the box down on the floor like she had done and then proceeded to unlock it one his first try filled her with happiness. "Great work! See you already have the charms down. Now you can move on to the next room." Speaking of that so could she. Once she finished up with Haddie.

SPOILER!!: Haddie
Haddie nodded and stepped over to Rachel's cabinet, the one next to her own. It was working. It had stayed locked for Rachel. Haddie had seen it. She raised her wand and aimed it, giving the delicate movement. "Alohomora!" Click.

The door opened with ease when she checked it. Closing it again, she lifted her wand, imagined the lock locking and staying locked. "Colloportus!" It clicked. Haddie confirmed it was locked, and waited. After a few minutes of it staying locked, she let out a sigh of relief. And then shrugged, turning to the Slytherin girl that helped her. "I guess it was the cabinet. Thank you. I'm Haddie. First year. Ravenclaw. by the way."

Haddie held her box out in front of her. Aimed her wand. Rachel's cabinet clicked again. Telltale sign it unlocked itself. Nope. Didn't hear it. Heard nothing. No click at all.

"Alohomora." The box clicked this time. Still ignoring the fact Rachel's cabinet also unlocked itself, Haddie opened the box, and looked inside.

Holding her wand firmly in her hand down at her side she shifted her attention towards the new cabinet that the first year girl moved over to. When it clicked open and then clicked again to lock itself she grinned just a bit. It didn't unlock again while she was there so it appeared to just be that cabinet or something.

"No problem, it's nice meeting you Haddie," she replied quietly. Wait, Haddie? With a slight smirk tugging at her lips she continued on, "I'm Hady, Fifth year Slytherin." Yeah, they may have the same name but she was older. Mhmm.

SPOILER!!: Professor Primeaux
The numbers glowed 8, 7, 8, 8. After saying the numbers you can now enter the next room.

With both of the first years having their own boxes open now Hady shifted her attention towards her own. Surely enough there was GLOWING! 8. 7. 8. 8. The numbers that would get her into the next room.

Making her way towards the door for the next room she spoke clearly and confidently. "Eight, seven, eight, eight." Click. The door before her unlocked itself and opened before her allowing her entrance into the next room.

Time to see what was in store for the next part of her test.

Janelle smiled back at the two Gryffindors that were also helping coach the first year. She would get the job done. They were a team, yeah?

Meanwhile, back to the box. Happy to see that her box was unlocked, Janelle carefully opened it and peeked inside. She had numbers and they were glowing. 4-2-3-4. Janelle repeated the numbers in her head several times. Wouldn't want to forger the key to the next room. She was good to go except..................how could she leave the little firstie, when she hadn't finished the task?

Now that was a dilemma. Janelle was anxious to move on to the the next room and see what was waiting for them there. But........help was needed. Clearly she wasn't the only one helping the girl. She had another perfectly capable older student helping her too..........but........it would not be cool to abandon the younger girl, would it?

Turning her attention back to the Hufflepuff, Janelle continued to offer her encouragement. Hopefully she wasn't being too annoying. "Keep trying. You can do it."

Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.

Torrance looked down at his paper once more to make sure he remembered the numbers 6, 0, 0, 4 Easy enough. Six Double O Four.

He sat up from the corner of the Room and grinned at the Kate Girl, whom YEAH he saw her fail at where he succeeded. Guess she can't have all the glory. This could also mean they were evenly matched....perfect for his Arch Rival.

He stood at the Door and spoke. "Six Double O Four" ....Oh wait no. "Six, Zero, Zero, Four!" No he can go through.

What to do with the numbers when they got them? Huh? Oh yeah! Yeah he actually happened to. Mhm.

"Sure did, it said we're meant to take it to the door, say the numbers and it'll open. Sounds easy enough to me, come on." Blaise hadn't seen any instructions about one per code when he'd checked the directions earlier and so he he had no reason to suspect this wouldn't work. That being the case he grabbed his cousin by the wrist and led the way to the door.

The little boy looked to the number combination once more to be sure he had then right. "6, 7, 5, 4."

And voila the door was open. "LET'S GO!" Aaaaaand through the door he headed.

Success! And look Blaise was actually participating....fifty fifty even. He was sure that his cousin's parents would be happy about this...and he was too. Maybe one day he wouldn't have to be the one to take his cousin's wand to class and he'd actually use it?

One could only hope.

Bentley followed closely behind his cousin to the door.

"6, 7, 5, 4.. interesting sequence of numbers..."

Silly things really, given she'd seen plenty of people use magic, including ones that probably should never have been handed a wand.

She just needed a little more confidence in herself.

She took a breath, at the same time loosening her grip on her wand - enough to be comfortable, but no so much she risked throwing it across the room. She practiced the flick Tia showed her first, before pointing it towards the cabinet. "Alohomora!"

Nothing happened. What was she missing? She had the wrist, the pronounciation (is), oh...and Tia had said to concentrate on the lock opening!

She pursed her lips slightly as she concentrated, viewing the lock's mechanism in her mind. She hadn't actually looked closely enough to see what type of system it had, but she'd picked enough locks in her time to have a good idea. And then she imagined it undoing, as if turned with an invisible key. Her invisible key; her wand and her magic.

"Alohomora!" she said again, this time with more determination in her voice.
Tia just kept hold of her box while she watched in anticipation of the first year to get the spell. Who knew she would have to be teaching charms on their first day of lessons? Not that she minded terribly, because they weren't difficult charms to learn and it was a better subject to teach than something else.

Watching Sam with curiously, she simply smiled encouragingly. "Just focus on the cabinet opening, flick the wand as I demonstrated and say the spell. You can do it!" She was sure of it; sure that the last time she said the word, Sam had to have been focused enough.

She'd seen her numbers inside her box ... six, seven, five, four ... but the head girl wasn't about to say them. She couldn't leave without making sure her first years were in good shape with the charms, so the seventh year just committed them to memory, knowing that she would be at the next phase soon enough.

"Could you please help me lock it, Tiamarie-san?" the half-Japanese blushed, obviously embarrassed because he's supposed to be good at this thing. He's a Ravenclaw, after all!
Ah so he was confused with the locking spell. Yes that spell was slightly more challenging than Alohomora, but she was confident he could manage it. Surely the new Charms professor wouldn't have given them a task he didn't think they were capable of figuring out on their own.

"OF course," Tia smiled at the young housemate. "So it's actually similar to performing the unlocking spell, only this time you focus on the cabinet sealing shut. As you're focusing on the cabinet being sealed, carefully say the incantation. Coll-o-port-us" She emphasized each syllable for Jace.

"Colloportus!" waving her wand with the correct movement. Imagining the cabinet door locked again. And..... click. At some point she closed her eyes. When she heard the click her eyes shot open. She pulled on the door. It was locked. She had done it. It was locked!

Just when Katerina was about to give up. Really. Charms were hard. So hard. She had already decided that this was not her subject. Even with this small victory. Her getting to the other room seem possible now. If she could unlock the box now.

Moving back to said box and sitting it in front of her. "Aloho...." No no no. Wait that wasn't right she had started out doing the wand movement for the locking charm. Oppps. Chill Delgado. You have this. Nerves were really working against her now. She relaxed and took a deep breath. She done the wand movement into the air, practicing it

Right, she was ready now. Or she hoped she was. "Alohomora. tracing a backwards 's' into the air, and focusing on the box being unlocked. She heard the click, sighed in relief. Then flipped the box open and pulled out the piece of paper.

Giving Tia a quick glance, the half-Japanese tugged on her sleeve and headed towards the disgruntled boy. Lowering himself, Jace kneeled in front of him and smiled at him warmly. He didn’t want to startle him, and upset his fellow Ravenclaw more. With a slight bow of his head, Jace went on to introduce himself. “Hello.” He started giving the boy a small wave. “I’m Jace. He didn’t want to be stuck in the room...and he was sure that his fellow Ravenclaw felt the same way.

Lex quickly dried his eyes and stood. "I'm Lex," he said in response to Jace. He followed the boy back over to where Tia was giving her instruction.

Lex listened to Tia as she gave Jace the explanation, then pointed his wand at the box he still held. He focused on sealing it shut, clearing his mind of other thoughts.

"Colloportus." The box clicked - a quick test confirmed it was locked.

"Thank you, miss!" he said, nodding to Tia before running back to his own cabinet to replace the box. He closed it and repeated the spell, successfully locking it. Keeping his numbers in mind, he headed to the door, but stopped and waited for Jace and Tia.

Haddie turned back to the Slytherin girl, blinked, and then eyed her with mock suspicion. But in all honesty, she thought it was kinda cool having a name twin. She grinned. "Cool. We should hang out sometime." Then she leaned forward and whispered in the older Hady's ear "But for now, I have to beat my cousin to the other room." Haddie grinned, and sprinted to the door.

"Three five four one." Oh, look Ailsa. Look who got here first!

By now most of her fellow students had already mastered the four steps, and were going into the next room. "Don't panic, just try again" Kitty said to herself and she closed her eyes to concentrate. "Colloportus!" Click It worked! The cabinet door was now locked. "Only one more step to go..." Kitty muttered to herself, fidgeting with the small box in her hands.

Now that the cabinet door had been locked, the last step should be easy. At least Kitty hoped it would be. She was now one of the very last students to leave the room, and she would hate to be the last one. Setting the box on the floor, Kitty swished her wand through the air and shouted "Alohomora!" With a tiny click the box opened...

"...I'm eleven." He stated this as if it should somehow be taken as the appropriate answer to her question; he was eleven, and therefore this was his first class. He had absolutely no idea what he was doing, no. Jaemin shuffled closer to a few of the older students as they worked, leaning in a bit when he spotted the girl prefect from his own house so he could watch her do the thing.

The spells kept getting yelled around him as students worked on their own cabinets, and Jay felt his ears go red when he realised why his hadn't listened to him about opening. He was saying the thing wrong Merlin this was so embarrassing!!!! He silently scooted himself back over to his own cabinet and looked at the girl again.

"I don't think I said it quite right the first time..." The boy squeezed his wand in his tiny fist and stared stalwartly at the cabinet again. "Alohomora... Aaaaaloooooohoooooomoooooorrrrrraaaaaaa...."

He tested the spell out a few more times, mouth carefully forming it as closely as possible to those around him; when he'd settled into it a bit, and felt more at ease with how it was said, he pointed his wand at the cabinet. This time for sure. It had to work. Otherwise they'd probably put him back in the boats and send him across the lake to the train again, and he really wanted to check out the greenhouses before it came to that.

With a swish and a flick, the boy tried his best to enunciate...

"Alohomora."

...and after a very loooooooong moment, the door made an unlocking clicky sound. If he could have, he probably would have hugged it. Instead, he hugged the stranger girl next to him. "I did it!"
Robin felt a little embarrassed after the boy's blunt answer but was relieved to know that 11 year old wizards weren't supposed to know this. How was she supposed to know? Secretly she had thought non-muggle borns had been training since birth for this but was to scared to ask anyone. Who knew she was normal here? better than clueless- now she wouldn't have to go back home and listen to her mom tell her how it must have been a mistake and that she had told her so.

She waited patiently as the boy studied the older students, not knowing whether she should just walk away or not.On one hand she didn't know if the boy was annoyed with her or not, but then again she had nowhere else to go... She opened and closed her mouth, but didn't know what to say. She bit her bottom lip nervously but then wrinkled her brow as he performed the spell. So THAT was her problem! She had just been flicking her wand, not swishing it like he had.Robin blinked for a moment until she realized the boy was hugging her.

"Um, congrats!" she laughed as she detangled herself. Here she was, talking to someone else. She silently congratulated herself as well.
"My turn- I think I know what I did..Okay so you swish..then flick the wand?" she took hers out again and leveled it. "ok,ok alohomora-while swishing and flicking" she muttered under her breath.

"Alohomora"

The cabinet sprang open- way too fast. Robin ducked as it slammed back.
She peeked between her hands and smiled nervously.
"Well at least it's open right?"She grinned. She had used magic.

"I'm going to head through," he explained, having come to a decision. "If once you see what's in the next room, you still need help, let me know." He didn't want to over assist. The girl was certainly showing that she was capable.

Moving to the door, Thornton spoke his numbers aloud and headed through to the next room.

Ariadne nodded. She hadn't expected him to stay with her the whole time anyway. While it had been nice having her own, personal Ravenclaw, she knew she couldn't expect him to wait for her after each and every charm. "Yeah, I didn't expect you to wait up for me the whole time. It's cool. Thanks for helping me, though! See ya in the next room!" she said, and then she gave him a little wave as he disappeared into the next room.

Now it was time for HER to try and get into that next room. Ariadne opened the box and pulled out the tiny piece of paper inside. It was her code to get inside the next room! SHE'D MADE IT! She stared in awe at the glowing numbers. This class was SO COOL! "5, 7, 8, 3," she said. With that, the room was open to her, and she didn't waste anytime joining Thornton and the others.

He needed to succeed with this one, because Jace knew that the Head Girl was more than ready to go to the next room. He could see her numbers glow already, seeing that she’s already completed her first task. Jace listened carefully to the Head Girl, and wrapped his mind around her words. Maybe he did lack in focus this time, thinking that it is similar to the unlocking spell. “Coll-o-port-us. Colloportus.” Jace repeated the spell over and over again, until it rolled out smoothly, and nicely from his mouth. “Colloportus.” With a quick glance over Lex, he gave the boy a nod and tried to lock his cabinet again.

“Colloportus.”
Giving it the correct wand movement, his cabinet gave a nice clicking sound. Jace pulled on the handle, and the thing didn’t budge. He did it!

Jace went back to Tia and gave her a bow of thanks. “Thank you, Tiamarie!” he beamed at her and proceeded to unlock the box in his hand. “Alohomora.” The box opened nicely, and grinned at the head girl. A bit of showing off doesn’t hurt right?

Now...about that combination.

She was going to get this. She was going to get this. Mel kept repeating the words in her head as she pointed her wand and repeated the spell once more with the correct movement. “Colloportus” she cast the sound. It clicked!

“I did it!” She grinned over to herself and holding onto her box she pointed her wand and made the now somewhat familiar backwards S movement with it. “Alohamora” and the box was unlocked in her hands. Now.

She was done right? Onto part two?

The slip of paper looked sort of lonely curled up in the bottom of the box like that, and Dot rescued it from its solitude. Four numbers, and maybe she could have guessed these just by standing at the door and trying out combinations for a while. Still, based on the appearance of the professor's proxy, she'd have been caught out right.

Besides, the spells were pretty standard and it wasn't any extra burden to actually do the work. Dot hopped to the door leading into the secret extra room and spoke the numbers from her paper. "Six. Five. Four. Three." And now... the path to freedom.

This was why she didn’t help people. All it did was backfire on her, as Brooklyn had looked at her box again and realized it hadn’t opened. All s he’d done was demonstrate how it was done, and the Hufflepuff had gone on and managed it all before her. However, she didn’t take long to pout. She had business to attend to, namely actually retrieving the numbers from her box so she could move on. She could deal with her disappointment later. At least she’d gotten her cabinet locked, so now it was just managing to get the numbers.

Raising her hand upward so she could look at the box lock directly, she pointed her wand at it yet again. “Alohomora!,” she cast again, tracing out the proper wand movement and pushing everything else to the back of her mind to focus on the lock. It was going to open and she was going to move on. She wasn’t going to get tricked again. As she heard a click, she tried the latch. Open. Okay. Now to retrieve the numbers so she could get moving. She didn’t fail. Brooklyn Andrews didn’t fail.

Phew, that was over. Actually charms wasn't so bad. This wasn't so bad. She looked down at the paper. The numbers were glowing. Kat moved over to the next door. Saying the numbers out "Six. Five. Two. Three." The first year trotted through the door into the next room.

She peeked between her hands and smiled nervously.
"Well at least it's open right?"She grinned. She had used magic.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAH. Jaemin watched with wide eyes as the girl's door flung itself open, then looked at his own again. His hadn't done that! He reached to pull it open and waved the door back and forth a bit. It didn't have squeaky rusty hinges or anything... but he had to have done it right, right? It was open, after all.

He reached inside and pulled out the box, looking at it in his hands before putting it down on the floor at his feet. He had more stuffs to do! More magic spells! Now that he and this... girl... person... were experts at Unlocking, it was time to lock it all back up again.

Surely it would be just as easy. He pointed at some nearby older students, directing the girl's attention toward them so they could spy on their techniques. "We gotta do that now. Close the cabinet up again."

This time he was really careful to listen to how the others were saying the spell. He wasn't gonna say it wrong again! He would get it right on the first try now. He had to. He was a wizard, after all. They were supposed to be good at magic.

"Collopor... Colloportuns..." he frowned and cleared his throat. "Colloport US."

He pointed his wand at the cabinet, repeating the same wand movements as those near him who seemed to be succeeding. Jaemin's little voice came out, a bit unsteady as he spoke the spell. "Colloportus."

And cliiiiiiiiiick.

Big Sister Prefect! Yes! Help!

Julia listened to the pronunciation, and gave the word a try, ”Al-LOW-ho-MORE-uh. Al-LOW-ho-MORE-uh. Hmm. Al-LOH-ho-MORE-uh… no wait, more-ah, not more-uh, right? Al-LOH-ho-MORE-ah.”

She scrunched up her nose; something still sounded a tad off. She sort of wished the spell was written out like the pronunciations in her word-a-day calendar.

Thinking this, she exclaimed, ”Ooh! I wonder if they sell a spell-a-day calendar! I should get one.”

What was she supposed to do? Oh, right? Seal up the cabinet and move on, yes? "Colloportus." The cabinet locked back up again. Not quite as easy as the first spell, but.. she nodded to the younger girl. "Coll-o-port-us. You can do it."
More advice was always good. She would take it all. ALL the advice.

Click.

Her mouth popped open and she shoved her hands in the air. Victory! And she reached in and grabbed the box and…

…and it was locked too. Bah. BAH!

Was he pouting? No no don't pout! She didn't mean to squish his chivalry, it wasn't like that. She gently nudged his side and took his hand. She needed him even if she didn't need him to do things.

He was more excited than she was probably, but still she was curious. He wanted her to walk before him, and that was fine. She led him over to the door. At least she made him happy by muggling something. "I'm glad its the numbers, I would fail at muggle elvish." She laughed a little. "I'd be stuck in this room if that is what I had to do, it took me long enough just to remember that part of the movie." She had gotten a lot better with Henric's help, but still she struggled with muggle things at times.

He spoke the number code....and then said something else that kind of sounded familiar. That was some muggle thing too right? What it was, she couldn't place it for the life of her though and just smiled at him. Sorry hun, I'm still learning it. Her turn right? She looked at the door and read the ciphers aloud, clearly. "9, 7, 0, 4." Yes, time for the next step!
