The beginning of a new term is finally here and the cool September air is lightly rolling in through the windows cracked open on the south side of the classroom. The classroom is set up quite normally, with several rows of desks, split into three columns for easy access to the front of the room. In the front of the room is a standard chalkboard with a slightly taller than normal wooden table a few feet in front of it. To the left is the professor's desk.
At that desk sits the new Charms Professor, Pierson Fuller, his feet comfortably propped up on his desk as he finishes his post-breakfast apple and watches the students file in for Charms class.
Say hello if you wish, but class will begin shortly!
OOC: Class has begun! If you are late, please don't announce it. Just pretend you've been here all along!

Because he was such a generous and giving sort of person, Mo tossed the parchment over his shoulder in Alice's general direction. It would hit her. Or near her. Or someone else entirely, who would then wonder why Alice was throwing things at them. Either way, it was a win.
He really needed to get that quill to slow down and float gently toward the floor, rather than stopping completely, but no matter what Mo tried, he kept panicking at the sight of the quill dropping faster than he liked, and it would freeze in the air. He tried it a few times, but the result was always the same.
Maybe if he dropped it from further away?
Mo climbed onto his chair, and from there, he climbed on his desk. From that great height, he dropped his quill, and it immediately plummeted toward the ground, weighed down by that tip. With a wave of his wand, Mo very clearly said, "Arresto momentum" and thought happy thoughts about feathers caught in the wind and drifting very VERY slowly down to the earth.
He peeked at his feather with one eye, and found that it was stopped again. DRAT! NO... wait. It wasn't stopped, but it was moving very VERY slowly, just as he'd envisioned. Keeping his wand extended, Mo half climbed and half fell off his desk to get close enough to the quill to examine it closely.

Okay, now for actually performing the spell. And Sky knew exactly what she wanted to throw, too. She grabbed her textbook and tossed it over her shoulder, quickly spinning around in her seat so that she could stop it. She focused hard and cast. "Arresto Momentum!" The book slowed before softly clattering into the desk behind her. Oops? Maybe her throwing arm wasn't as good as she thought it was. She'd totally meant to throw it further......

Reason: I know how to title things.......
The actual question here was what object should she use. Lottie considered the quill... but she felt she ought to try with something heavier. Even more so than paper, yeah? And a book could be used for this but then the pages could get torn or folded somehow while in mid-air and what if it fell on Lex? Yeah, no. Her eyes landed on Lex's desk, however, but... she decided against taking something from there and just looked at her bracelets.
She wouldn't use the friendship one she got for her and Lex, because NO. Ivy Knox. And the silver ribbon was even lighter than her quill. While she did have some colored pencils in her bag, Lottie decided to try this out with her silver bangle, it weighted more than the quill, at least. And could be a hazard if you wanted it to, though. Everything could.
Intention. Right. The Hogwartian removed her bracelet/bangle and started to think about it slooooowing down in mid-air. She was thinking about this even before taking her wand, THAT strong her intentions were, Fuller.
Throwing the slightly heavier than expected bangle into the air, Lottie waited one second before finally waving her wand at the silvery flying object, "Arresto momentum!" DONE. And by 'done' we mean: successfully casting a spell that slowed down the bangle until... it almost landed on Lex's head, but it didn't. It landed on her desk with a very soft thud.
Marissa watched as a boy climbed onto his desk to drop his item and realized she could climb on her desk to get her brush down. She climbed up onto the desk from the chair and grabbed her suspended brush. She climbed back down and tossed her brush in the air one more time, not nearly as high as she had thrown it earlier, "Arresto momentum." she said while waving her wand. The brush came to a stop inches over her head. She smiled as she grabbed the brush and took a seat waiting for the professor to continue the lesson.

No. No, Mo, that was HER parchment. Hers. Alice's. The sixth year watched him intently until he tossed it back to her, and only then did he receive a grin. But she hadn't gotten one from him, so really, that whole parchment lobbing activity had just been a waste of valuable time she could have spent admiring Professor Facial Hair's mustache.
Well. Cactus' fault.
Taking the opportunity to climb onto the desk, because professors barely ever let them do that, she tugged out her wand from its holster before regarding the parchment warily. Slow. Slowwww.
Alice let go of the ball, only to be shocked at how fast it was falling and immediately panic. "Arresto Momentum." Think slow. Slow slow slow. Except really, she was thinking about how if the dumb parchment didn't stop in time, it's make her look silly in front of Professor Full of gorgeousness. Which wasn't okay. Nope. Favorite student here, remember?
A few centimeters from the ground, it stopped itself, as if hung from the air by some kind of suspender. The sixteen year old observed it with a slight frown on her face, clearly bothered. That wasn't what it was meant to do at all.
... but Professor Facial Hair didn't know that, did he? Whew. She beamed.

Or not, whatever, we're being pretending to be unamused by everything at the moment, so, she lazily picked up the bangle and did the previous exercise over and over again, yes, we're rebelling, before finally deciding that she'd had enough of slowing down the silvery object and she could pretty much attempt the full stop now, yes? YEAH.
Okay. Intention. Ivy. So, letting go of her bangle once more the girl waved her wand at it before saying one single and very confident, "Arresto Momentum!" Did it stop? Did it? Because it looked like it did... except she knew the bangle was still moving somehow. It definitely moved after almost a minute, soooooo....
....she really needed to try this again.
Fierce intention, then. Grabbing the silvery thing with a bit of annoyance, she let it roam free into the air and then... "Arresto Momentum!" waving of the wand and whatnot... and...
...smirk.
It wasn't moving. For real. It wasn't. Got it. Give us something difficult, Fuller.
Dani's Citrus Duck Spawn | Mama Giraffe | Lemon PATch | Pushed the Red Button
Attempting to slow the ball down to no avail numerous more times just frustrated Alice more and more until she was prepared to rip up the parchment and give up. The sixth year was now sprawled on her stomach across the top of her desk, letting her head hang off so she could see the ball as it fell. Slow. Slowww.
It was the mustache. Too distracting.
Deciding that the professor's facial hair was the cause of all her problems, she slid around on her tummy until she was hanging off the other side of the desk, dropping the parchment ball once more. "Arresto Momentum." Slow. Slow. Slowwww.
Was that stopped? She tried to peer as closely as her precarious position allowed, finally realizing that her object was drifting down to the ground with the speed of a snail. Alice grinned lazily at the sight of it doing exactly as she'd envisioned but didn't make any move to pick it up. Nope. She was comfortable there.
Maybe if no one else was done yet, she could nap. Excellent idea, was it not?

More practice was always good!
Nerida threw the packet of skittles up high to the ceiling because you know it was fun... Seeing it come down for a couple moments she waved her wand and cast "Arresto Momentum." Thinking slow, slow, slow thoughts. She opened her eyes hoping it was slowing... IT WAS!!!
Yay! Now to stop it!
"Arresto Momentum." Think stop, stop, stop stop. Nerida waved her wand. Opening her eyes a few moments afterwards the seventh year was relieved to see that the skittles had stopped in mid air.
Yay! She jumped up for it...
O_o!!!
She couldn't reach it!!!! Now what was she to do???

Waiting for everyone else to be done playing with the spell was becoming tedious and you know what ELSE?? The chocolate frog had gotten louder. It was practically clawing at the inside of the wrapper, begging her to let it out then eat it and be done with it. They didn't like the confinement of the wrappers, she should know, she was an expert on them and could tell you this. Maybe she could eat it then explain to the Professor that it was an emergency kind of situation? Would that work?
Lex placed the candy back on her table, slumped in her seat a bit more and STARED at it. This all boiled down to self discipline of which she had very little. Of course she wanted to eat it but at the same time she had to think. What would she eat on the walk to her next class...??
These were among the most important decisions of her average day.
In the end she grabbed the chocolate frog, figuring she'd just get in some more practice. Just as before she tossed it. Perhaps she'd make it stop again, just for the effect because you had to admit, it was kinda cool.
"Arresto Momentum!"

Lucian was SET on making his apple core slow down before crash landing and wandering off somewhere else. Ew. It had dirt on it now. He blew it off and shrugged. He was still going to throw it away after the lesson was over.
He made as if he was going to throw the apple core again - this time up - but really, he was just watching what way the core would go. That way he didn't shoot the spell at something - or someone - else. Tossing the apple core upward, he waved his wand and said firmly, all jokes aside, "Arresto Momentum!"
The core flew up, but amazingly enough, it slowed down inches away from hitting his face. Lucian beamed, lost concentration, and the core fell, thumping him on the forehead. BUT...it was okay. He'd DONE IT. He totally stopped that apple core!

Nerida looked around what was a girl to do, she was average height... But just to short to reach up and grabbed the skittles. Hmmm.. Hey some kids were using desks!!
Taking the opportunity Nerida climbed up onto the desk and balanced herself before trying to reach up and grab the candy. Because she would hate to fall it would be kinda embarrassing!! After making sure to balance herself she reached up and grabbed the candy before getting her two feet safely back on the ground.
This time she wouldn't throw it that high up.
"Arresto Momentum!" she gave her wand a wave as she said the spell, the first time to slow it and then she repeated the spell to stop it. Each time she concentrated on what she wanted the spell to do.

They were going to toss things in the air and stop them? That sounded like a pretty practical application really, so Eliza was on board. She looked around on her desk and grabbed the most accessible thing, her notebook. It wasn't too heavy, so she needn't be timid about it nearly bonking herself in the head. With any luck, and skill, it wouldn't ever happen.
The incantation seemed easy enough, so she said it aloud a few times. "Ah-REST-oh... Mow-MEHN-tuhm...Ahrestoh mohmehntuhm. Arresto momentum. Momentummm. Mhmmm..." As she was mouthing her words to herself, she caught a look from across the room. Claudette seemed to have found her object of choice as well: the lilac ink jar. Eliza chuckled a bit and arched a quick brow to the French girl in recognition of the bottle. Eliza was glad they'd let that whole thing blow over. It was funny though that her new Claw friend thought of it now, when it could come crashing to the ground (again) at any second. She almost couldn't decide if she was being mocked (again), or if she was just referencing the memory because they knew each other a little better now. In the end Eliza sided with humorous recall and picked up her notebook to try it out for herself, with one last nod and smile to her new friend.
UNFORTUNATELY, Zahra did see it. The wink from the Puffy Prefect who was being NOSY and stupid and who asked her anyway??????? It was pretty obvious Zahra had seen, but she tried to pretend OTHERWISE ANYWAY.
NO SEEING TOUSSAINTS. Stupid Toussaint. Hmph.
Well, except when the cake hit him in the face. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Just... HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHA
*WHEEZE*
HAHAHAHAHAH
Meanwhile, Zahra was out of things to throw and junk, but she was still doing her prim and proper "ArrESto MoMENtum" practicing when she wasn't DYING from LAUGHING at PUMPKIN FACE. "I bet that Prefect with the wonky eye is REAL impressed by that." JUST SAYING, while she was IGNORING. Obviously.
Picking up the cauldron cake, Michael rolled his eyes at his laughing friend. Oh how he would like to JAB her with his wand. If they weren't in class then he would do just that.
He was just about to throw the cake into the air again when he caught her words and a smirk appeared upon his lips. "Well at least MY Prefect knows I exist." You know because she was talking to him and winking at him.
Mikey poked his tongue out at her before going back to his practicing.

This was a great spell to have. She wasn't sure exactly when she would use it, but it was fun. Grabbing the package she decided to do it again. Trying to throw it higher this time. She tossed the package up and watched it come down "Arresto Momentum!" The package slowed and she easily caught it while it was making it's slow fall.
Just as she was about to toss the candy up again she heard laughing from that little lion again. Now what did she do. Minerva turned and glanced just to see Mikey with Cake on his face. "Mikey do you need some help?" She tried to say it low enough that he wouldn't be embarrassed. It was an honest mistake really.. New spells could be tricky. She gave Zahra a glance.. She thought they were friends. Why was she laughing that wasn't very nice.
Before he could try throwing the cake in the air again, Minerva was talking to him once again and he looked over to her with a broad smile. "I'm just going to try it by myself a couple more times and if I still don't get it then I would very much appreciate your help."
He glanced at Zahra for a second before returning his attention back to the Hufflepuff Prefect. "You're such an awesome Prefect, Minerva." Not like the other Prefects.
One in particular.
Michael threw the cauldron cake back into the air and this time made sure he was concentrating when he waved his wand and said the incantation. "ARRESTO MOMENTUM!"
The little cake began to fall at a much slower rate than it had before. At least he had time to get out of the way before it fell on top of his head.

He flicked the guitar pick up in the air again and caught it on the back of his thumb.
"Do you wanna start or shall I? Slowing it first right?"
"Fine, fine. Alrighty. No aiming at each other's faces. I don't need an Alice trailing me if I ruin your face, anyway." She wasn't really that stubborn long as she was seeing reason. And West was good at reasoning so yeah. Okay. Look here, she was tossing her hairclip in the air and as it landed on her palm, she turned back to the Slytherin.
"You can go first." Beezus nodded. She shifted on her seat and flicked her hairclip up in the air.
Angeal scanned his table for a subject to perform the charm. He initially thought of using a role of parchment, but thought it would be too heavy for a little wizard like him. In the end, he chose to use his quill. Wand at the ready in one hand, he tossed the quill up with his other hand, and when the quill was dropping, he waved his wand smoothly and said "Ah-REST-oh mo-MENT-um!" in a clear and firm voice.
Not long after, he was distracted by some situations, causing him to lose focus and the quill descended faster. Angeal realised what just happened before it was too late, hence performing the charm once again. "Arresto Momentum!" The quill hovered a few inches above his desk as if it was suspending from an invinsible thread. Thank Merlin it was a quill and not something heavier!

TOSS!
Yeah. That was true. West looked around for Alice, spotted her mucking about with some parchment with Mo (again. Seriously) and frowned and looked at Bee again. Anyways. Time to do stuff.
He watched for a moment, wand at the ready and focusing like how Dylan had drilled into him for so many years of charms practice, and then she tossed it and he waved his wand and thought about the hairclip slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwing dowwwwwwwwwwwwwn. "Arresto Momentum!" The hairclip's descent was suddenly abnormally gradual, and it spun slowwwwly as it gently lowered into Beezus's hand. West thought it was a bit like when you threw something sticky like a jelly slug against some glass and watched it sliiiiiiiiiiiiiide down, like something was desperately battling gravity. Losing, but losing slowly, y'know?
Anyways it had worked and West forgot himself a bit and bounced a few times in his seat. Eager. Yess. Winner. Successs.
Ahem. Where was he? Oh yeah.
"You're up for slowing next." He held up his guitar pick. Was she ready? Soon as he thought she was, he began flipping it in the air, and catching it on his thumb, then flipping it again. Yep she could give it a go any time now.

Hairclip was up, West was waving his wand. And Beezus barely had the time to react when he spoke the incantation and she watched before her very eyes how the hairclip lost speed or gravity, or both. Her palm was open ready by the time it took on a spin before finally settling back onto her hand. She grinned and in one swift motion, fastened the hairclip into her hair near her ear.
Wait though. Was he bouncing? Beezus couldn't help but quirk an eyebrow at him, "Nifty." She said, taking hold of her wand. Okay, so it was her turn now. Slow Down, eh? She just had a perfect song in mind for that. Oh, yes she did. Oh oh oh oh yeaaaah baby slow down the so- oh oh oh oh oh-oooong..
A little bit of the stray thoughts, but as soon as the Slytherin tossed his guitar pick in the air, Beezeus reeled in her concentration quickly and focused on her intent. She had to slow down that guitar pick. Sloooooooow doooooooooooooon. "Arresto Momentum!" There it went, the guitar pick....it was falling down at a leisurely pace, almost as though it was a very light feather taking its time to reach the ground.
She blew air as soon as it landed on West's thumb and smiled widely.
Marissa shrugged as the girl took the mouse back, "At least it was soft and not breakable. " she said to her as she motioned to her broken mirror.
Turning back to her bag she looked through it again looking for anything she could use to try again. She finally found something to use and pulled out her brush.
Here goes again, she thought as she tossed the brush in the air. "Arresto momentum." she said concentrating on slowing it down. She looked up at her brush and saw it slowly floating down towards her. She smiled and pulled it from the air glad she finally got it.
Adelaide looked down at the girl's mirror. "That stinks. Do you know how to use reparo? That should fix it up real quick." It was a simple basic suggestion. Reparo was really a spell that could work wonders.
Adelaide turned back to what she was doing, grabbing the mouse toy up from the floor. This time she tossed up a little, still over the space between desks, so that she would have more time to properly stop the object, even if it was only a few seconds more.
"Arresto momentum." She jabbed her wand at the mouse and it immediately stopped, hovering about 2 inches off of the ground. She was so happy at her success. To make sure it wasn't a fluke, she tossed the mouse once more, before repeating the spell casting process. This time she managed to stop it a little closer to the desk top level. "I think I've got it Professor Fuller." Because any excuse to talk to the dreamy professor was a good time.
Laura wondered what she would do next, she knew she was supposed to stop an object fully but she had no idea which object to go for, she decided in the end a rubber would do fine and was easy to throw.
Laura grabbed hold of her rubber and then threw it into the air, she then thought what she wanted to do, stop, stop, stop that was all she thought. "Arresto Momentum!" Laura smiled "Arresto Momentum!!" Laura had her wand pointed at the object and smiled when it stopped she had do it again.

DRAT.
Looking over at Blue Eyes again, Benzi's jaw fell at her smile. SHE HAD SMILED AT HIM. What was he even supposed to do now???!?? Frantically looking around for something cool to do he grabbed his wristband and threw it in the air again, hoping to impress.
ACK OOPS NOOOOO.
Instead of sending it straight up, Benzi in his haste had tossed it RIGHT to where Blue Eyes was sitting. NOT GOOD NOT GOOD ABORT ABORT. STOOOOPPPPPPP. IT WAS GOING TO HIT HER IN THE FACEEEEEEE. Doing the first thing that came to him, Benzi hopped on the table, pointed his wand at the flying wristband which was SO CLOSE to Blue Eyes' head and yelled "ARRESTO MOMENTUM!"
IT WAS STILL FLYING N- Wait. It froze. In midair. Benzi stared at it for the longest time before releasing the breath he'd been holding. PHEW. A lazy, self satisfied smirk replaced his anxious frown as he hopped off the table and retook his seat next to Cutty.

Clement was pretty happy that he had managed to slow his book down. That meant he could actually do something at least. that meant that he didn't look like a total idiot. Which was very good. He didn't need to be embarrassed. Maybe he was better at charms than he had thought he was. That made him happy. But he had to move onto the next thing now. Which was to stop his book moving completely. He hoped he would be able to do that. Because he would then look ultra cool. Maybe he would should practice slowing his book down again first. Hmmm. He thought about it and then decided against it. He could already do it, and he totally had to believe in himself, then he could do it. Come on Belroseee.
Okaay. Time to get going. With his wand in hand he bent down and picked his charms book back up. Hopefully he'd be able to slow it down even if he couldn't stop it because he really didn't want it clattering to the floor. Standing back up, he got himself back in the zone before letting his book drop. "Arresto Momentum" He said, pointing his wand at the book. Okaay. It was going fast...fast... ooh sloweerrrr. slowerrrrr. and it had stopped.
"Wooooot!" Okay. Maybe he shouldn't have said that. Grinning, because he was happy he did it he plucked his book from the air. Well done Clement.

Finite'ing, eh? One could tell this Odessa's trust was something not gained easily but Beezus said nothing more. She kept her hold on her wand and she did right for even before she could reply at him telling her that she'd go first, he had already sent the guitar pick flying again. But that was okay. She had it all under control. She was a former chaser after all. Her reflexes were still present. More grinning. "Nice." Woot.

It was nice to be in a class she felt a little more confident and that made sense.

Merlin, he was slyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
But that was okay. She had it all under control. She was a former chaser after all. Her reflexes were still present. And once the guitar pick hit its peak, she tensed up, gathered her thoughts and strained on what she wanted to do. STOP GUITAR PICK, STAAHWWP. "Arresto Momentum!" The guitar pick then STOPPED at mid-air above them just as she had envisioned as though it was suspended by an invisible string or such. It had completely ceased moving.
More grinning. "Nice." Woot.
She let it sit for a moment just like that before finally tilting her head, "Finite." She flicked her wand and the stationary guitar pick quickly assumed pace and gained momentum. Extending her other hand, she reached for it, snatching it in West's place. "You're up." said Beezus, tossing the pick at its owner as she so spontaneously tugged her hairclip free and sent it flying upwards.....
W-ahhh!
TWO THINGS. Whaaaa?
He CAUGHT the pick and waved his wand at the hairclip. "Arresto Momentum!" Stoooooooooop hairclip! Gah! He didn't want it to fall on the ground and then break because of him!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.... it stopped. Right there. Right in the air. West eyed it and then prodded it with his wand. It didn't move. Okay. He put his hand underneath it and then cast Finite, and the hairclip dropped into his palm, alongside the pick.
Well. Yep.
He held it out to Beezus so she could take her clip back and smiled..
Yep, they were pretty awesome.
