Adelaide zoned out a bit after the whole light in her face thing. She just got lost staring at Professor Handsome. Oh right. She was in a class full of other people. She quickly came to and started to hastily scribble down some notes.

This was a simple enough exercise. She was always good with wand work and learning spells. At least that's what Mr. Samson had told her. "Arresto momentum. Arresto momentum." She repeated it until it felt natural to say. Didn't need to make any mistakes.

Now to practice slowing an object right. She fished a sickle out of her pocket, before grabbing her wand. She threw the sickle up in the air and pointed her wand at it, while speaking. "Arresto momentum." Nothing. She didn't get discouraged. She did it a few more times before the coin started to slowly sink towards her desk. Addi beamed. Proud of herself.

Right. Okay. It was time to practice properly! ... And time to see whether this spell was as easy as it looked.

But first... he needed an item. His grey-blue eyes landed on his quill and he frowned slightly. Nope, that wouldn't do. Feathers didn't fall down fast enough so he'd need something heavier. His eyes then landed on his pencil case and he tilted his head. A pencil? An eraser? A ruler? ... No. None of them were marked with A.B.S so if they got lost...

... He'd find something else. Th seventeen year old reached into his bag and had a rummage around. Books, books and more books. And what looked like empty sweets wrappers. BLINK. His hands then passed over his pair of gloves and... he blinked some more before grinning. Yeah, this would be PERFECT. He took out the gloves and folded one over the other into a ball. That way, if it hit anyone, no one will get hurt, yeah? Awesome.

Alec whipped out his wand and cleared his throat. Right. Slowing down... slowing down... He tossed the ball up into the air before pointing his wand at it, one eye squinted down in a wink for focus reasons. Lotus Wisteria was going to be so proud. "Arresto Momentum!" he said, waving his wand as he did so. The ball of gloves...

... fell to the floor. BLINK.

Sigh. "Accio!" The ball of gloves flew towards his outstretched hand and he caught it. Okay. Shake it off, Summers, shake it off. He tossed the ball of gloves up in the air again and pointing his wand at it again. "Arresto Momentum!" he cried with a little bit more confidence, his wand waving at the object he was trying to slow down. The ball of gloves fell...

... and then SLOWED DOWN. GRIN. YEAH! THAT was more like it!

Time for charm practice! Something Lucian's been waiting for. He took out his wand and set it on the table in front of him. He had to remind himself not to wave it 'cause then crazy stuff happened. The Wand Dude's words still circled around his mind, but, right now, what happened, happened. All Lucian wanted was to know everything about magic and how to do it.

"Ahhh-reeeessTT-OH Mooo-meeenTT-uuum," he pronounced, making fishy faces at the Oh and Um. He nodded to himself, approving of the pronunciation. "Arresto...Momentum." Why he said it slowly, no one knows. The kid was good with languages, he was just a tad exaggerated on getting it right. And like the rest of his family, a bit of a perfectionist.

"Arresto Momentum. Hmm..." He shrugged his shoulders. "Not bad. Arresto Momentum." He could say it forever.

Theo was listening as hard as he could. Even though it was a long incantation to remember, he had heard it before which helped a lot. He got out his wand and gave it a shake just out of habit, as if it needed turning on or something. After feeling happy that his wand was up and running, he placed it on the table and cleared his throat dramatically.

Ah-rest-oh... Mo-ment-um.

Simple enough.

"Arresto..." Paaaaaause. "Momentum." Theo closed his eyes tight and tried to say it without looking at the board "Arresto.... Momentoh. Arresto... Momentum." He opened his eyes slowly and nodded when he had gotten it right.

WOOT.

He was getting good at this magic lark. Theo was suddenly feeling over-confident about the whole spell, and he picked up his wand for the next part of practice.

Now to put the whole thing to a stand still. Easy enough, he figured, if the slowing down portion was not that difficult. All he would have to do was just imagine the button stopping mid-air and it would be as easy as that. This charm was not as challenging as Mr. Excitement in the corner had made it out to be with his whole charade of throwing things at people's faces.

Ahem. Turning the button over in his hand, Ascanius prepared to go again. Toss. Wave. "Arresto Momentum." He imagined it slowing down to a complete stop, but no such luck. The button went up in the air and then straight back down into his hand.

He blinked at it a few times. Why hadn't that worked? Clearing his throat, this time he thought only about it stopping. No slowing it down. No, a nice and clean stop. Toss, wave, "Arresto Momentum."

And just like that...it had worked.

Olly's mind had drifted off to other places for a moment as she continued to tap her quill against her hand and absently stared at the wall behind the professor. What was she even doing here? Though maybe this class would only be theoretical? Yes? Maybe? So far it looked like it. Not that she'd paid too much attention. But there were a lot of questions asked and stuff so MAYBE the first lesson would only be theoretical. And MAYBE she could just skip the upcoming ones or something.

Yes? Please?

Apparently not.

With a groan, Olly's brown eyes flicked towards the board the professor had turned around to write on. Arresto Momentum. Great. At least that didn't like require a partner or something. She could just stand somewhere in the back of the classroom and pretend to be throwing things and slowing them down or something. Yes, perfect. But first she could be practicing the incantation and wand movement. Preferably not at the same time. She didn't really want to set the classroom on fire.

Although.........no.

Leaning back in her seat slightly, Olly watched the other students with a blank expression on her face. Okay, she could SAY the incantation. That much she could do for sure. "Ah-REST-oh. Mo-MENT-um." That didn't sound so wrong, yeah? "Ah-REST-oh. Mo-MENT-um." She said again, her voice more or less drowned out by the other students' around her. Good. Now, she started to feel quite silly talking to herself already. So she reached for her wand. And...hesitated.

Instead of practicing the wand movement she started tapping it against her arm like her quill earlier and watched the others around her.

Maybe no one would notice.

It was basically impossible to NOT be distracted by THOSE TWO GRYFFINDORS, y'know? Tobias was wondering why the entire class wasn't kind of captivated by what was going on. Was captivated the right word? Probably not.

Not the point.

Tobias was staring watching with great amusement, and it wasn't until Professor Neighbour full on thwacked Zahra Kettleburn in the head with an eraser and Tobias had to fight back a fit of giggles that he remembered he was supposed to be doing something else. Arresting momentum and all that.

Right, so... incantation first. That was the easy bit.

"AH-REST-OH MO-MENT-UM!"

Maybe he should tone it down a bit. But it was one of those spells where you just NEEDED TO SOUND POWERFUL, you KNOW?

Okay.

"Ah-REST-oh Mo-MENT-um!" Pauuuuse. "AhRESToh MoMENTum!" Pausepause. "Arresto Momentum." Pause.

Okay, that was enough practice, right? Toby now grabbed his bag from under his desk, digging through it to find something to to practice the spell on that he didn't mind getting damaged... you know... just in case.

Hold up, he'd just thought of something else.

Still rummaging through his bag with one hand, Tobias raised the other and looked towards Professor Neighbour.

"Sir, this charm is kind of like the Impediment Jinx, isn't it? Kind of? I mean Impedimenta can only work for a small amount of time, like ten seconds. Does this one have a time limit that it can stop or slow things down for?" he asked, finally grabbing hold of a small box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans from the bottom of his school bag and setting it on his desk. "Otherwise, couldn't people switch out Impedimenta for Arresto Momentum in duels and stuff? Because this one seems better and makes the other one a bit redundant. Especially if you can do non-verbal spells." Because of the incantations, though they were both a bit long, just one syllable separating them in length.

Right then. RIGHT.

Now to start throwing sweets in the air.

Okaaaaay, now he needed an object. It didn't really matter what it was, did it? Something that he didn't want to smash on the floor, obviously. Theo grabbed his bag from under his desk and dug around for it. Chocolate frog? Noooooope... that could end up disastrous if that landed on the floor. Aha, his bracelet was in here!

His bracelet from the 'his and her' set that he got for himself and Dora.

As much as he didn't want to toss it in the air, he knew that it wouldn't break if it fell... So, with his wand at the ready, Theo tossed the bracelet into the air but it was already coming back down at him straight away before he could even get into position.

Well, great.

He tried throwing it again, and only managed to say, "Arrest..."

BOOSh, on the floor. Okay, he needed someone to throw it for him.

Easy enough seemed the instructions that Professor Fuller left the class to work with. So, nodding at the steps Tag looked up at the chalkboard and glanced at the incantation.

Arresto Momentum.

Looking over at Chris Tag smiled at him. Look at him doing his work and coming to class and participating. Right.

So Tag started now. "Ar-Rest-o Mo-Ment-um." Tag shook his head. That sounded weird to say. Ok, give it a few more tries leprechaun boy. "Ah-Rest-to Mo-Ment-tum... Ar-Rest-oh Mo-Ment-um. Ar-Rest-oh Mo-Ment-um." It wasn't until his second time practicing the incantation that Tag had realized he'd pronounced it wrong.

Alright so the wand movement was a short wave of the wand. That is simple enough but now he was gonna practice the spell. He was gonna use....a pencil! Yeah that was safe enough. All he had to do was throw it up and stop the movement. But he knew that required concentration. He could do it!

He got his wand out of his robes and then he bent down and got the pencil out of his bag. He cleared his head and kept muttering the incantation under his breath. Then he threw the pencil up in the air, hopefully it won't hit anyone and then he called out, "Arresto Momentum!" and then it just fell to the ground. Maybe he needed to say it faster....?


Or..maybe he needed to do it with more force? Yup that could be it!

As the Professor spoke of the charm and the theory of intention, Claudette distractedly jotted down a few notes and doodles in the margins using her favorite lilac ink. She was already familiar with this charm, but knew she'd better go along with the practice of it during class. She didn't want another beard or something along those lines.. besides, it had been a while since she had cast that particular one. Could do with a little extra practice, she supposed.

The 16 year old lifted her eyes to the instructions on the board. They first had to practice speaking the incantation aloud? Uh, sure.. she could do that.. Especially since she had performed the charm before. Easy enough. "Ah-REST-ohhh... Mo-MENT-ummm..." she said, somewhat distractedly as she played with the feathered end of her quill. "Arresto Momentum."

Nigel continued to watching the shennigans between the younger Gryffindors. HeHe Shennagins. What a great word. See it was harmless fun. Though Nigel thought flicking a eraser at her was not the best way of teaching Arresto Momentum. But meh. He was a Professor after all.Nigel threw his pencil a couple more times, slowing it down. Nothing major. It was pretty fun. He was not sure why he had a pencil in his bag. Probably Magic. He threw it more time and cast

"Arresto Momentum"

And look at that the pencil stopped in mid air. Just like magic.

"Arresto Momentum!" she said soft and clearly "Arresto Momentum" was easy enough then she picked up her wand and did the wave motion a few times with out saying the words.. easy peasy, right? yeah so she thought as well.
they had to throw something into the air but Ariana really didn't have anything on her cept her book, quill parchment and wand, she didnt need to tote a million things around, so quill it was, though it was very light and would not go very high.

sitting back for few moments and thought before she realized she was wearing her bracelet! 'perfect!' she thought as she took the charms off so that they didnt break off if it fell and set them on her desk before having just the bracelet in her hand..

Alright, One, Two, Three.. Toss

Okay, now it was time to move on, yeah? Time to stop the object from falling altogether.

Alec reached up a hand and ruffled his hair. He had a funny feeling that this was going to be harder than before. AND that he was somehow going to end up mixing things up or... well... something just wasn't going to go right. He looked down at the ball of socks and frowned a little. Right. There was no need to think of anything bad because then it'll end up happening. ... Maybe. Plus, he didn't have anything to worry about just yet, yeah?

Moving on... he cleared his throat again before throwing the ball of gloves in the air and catching it. He threw it up again and caught it again. Stop completely... stop completely... AND. Ah-REST-oh... Mo-MENT-um... Arresto Momentum... stop completely... The ball of gloves was thrown up in the air yet again, but this time a little further away from him. He pointing his wand at it and cried, "Arresto Momentum!" Wave went his wand.

And the ball of gloves? ... Slowed down.

... He knew it.

At least the ball managed to slow down? Yeah? ... Frown.

Okay, time to practice the spell. Deep breath.

The wand movement wasn't too bad thankfully, just a simple wave of the wand. That was easy. She could definitely do that. And the incantation was long, but it also wasn't too bad. "Ah-REST-o mo-MENT-um." See, not bad. It was long, but it didn't have a whole lot of complicated syllables or anything like that. It kinda flowed nicely together. "AhRESTo MoMENTum. Arresto Momentum." And then she practiced the wand waving again.

Yeah, this was okay. A good start. Hopefully this would continue now that she was gonna try actually casting it.

Now that Tag had practiced how to say the incantation it was now time to put it to use. First he had to find something to toss. Looking all around him Tag was trying to find something suitable.

Could he toss Chris? He wouldn't mind, yeah. Or Alec? Alec would probably be happy to help out his mate in class. Was Ella busy with her work. Turning to his side a bit Tag looked at Ella and said, "Hey, Ella. Do you think Alec would mind if I tossed him across the classroom? You know, for class practice and all." And he gave her a cheesy grin. Had to have the best mate's girlfriends permission and all, yada, yada, yada.

At last Tag found something that he could toss. Looking at his notebook his ripped out a piece of paper and crumpled it up. Tossing the piece of paper Tag waved his arm like Professor Fuller had and said "Ar-Rest-Oh Mo-Ment-um."

Did it work? Not exactly, the piece of paper fell entirely to the floor. "Accio paper!" And the little wad came back up and into Tag's grasp.

Once again, throwing the paper Tag said "Ar-Rest-Oh Mo-Ment-um!" and waved his wand more quickly. Ah there. The paper slowly began to slow down as he went across a short space of the room.

Okay. It was time to try again until he got this right. Because who knows, this could help him one day. AND it could come up in the NEWTs.

... Ew, no need to think about that.

"Accio!" The ball of gloves zoomed back towards him and landed on the table. He picked it up and looked at it carefully, trying to imagine it stopping in mid-air. Stopping completely, not slowing down. ... Anything that works, yeah? He was hoping that this would work this time round, especially since he was thinking positively and all that.

Alec tossed the ball of gloves up in the air again and caught it. He then tossed it over a short distance across the classroom and pointed his wand over at it as quickly as he could. "Arresto Momentum!" WAVE! And the ball of gloves...

... STOPPED. IN MID AIR. YEAH!

The grin on his face was instantaneous. The ball of gloves actually stopped! Personal victory? Yeah! Maybe he could treat himself to some pancakes later. Chocolate chip pancakes... or WAFFLES. And hot chocolate. "Accio!" Once again, the ball of gloves zoomed back towards him and he caught it with his free hand. Awesome.

... Did he have to practice anymore?

Cat was making eyes at Professor Facial Hair Fuller as he performed the charm. It was like she'd never seen magic work before or something. She was being silly, completely silly and she didn't mind it at all. It wasn't hurting anyone to have a crush on the professor, right? Like... how could anyone not?

Anyway. Right. She had an assignment to do. Cat hoped she'd been listening as well as she'd been watching. What was that spell again? Arresto... something. Riiight. New plan, do more listening than watching in Charms class. Yes. Luckily, she could hear the others saying it aloud and that saved her bottom. "Arresto Momentum."

Yeah! That was it. "Arrestooooo Momentum."

Okay, now she needed someone something to throw so she could practice the spell. Penelope dug around in her bag for a few seconds before finding a knut. That would work, she s'posed.

She tossed it up in the air above her then waved her wand. "Arresto Momentu- OW." Instead of letting her finish the incantation to slow it down, gravity brought the knut down quickly to smack her in the forehead.

Grabbing it with her free hand, she rubbed her forehead a little and eyed the knut. That wasn't nice, okay? No more funny business like that this time. She tossed it up again - this time a little more above the desk than her face - and waved her wand again. "Arresto Momentum!"

But the knut continued to fall normally and hit the desk with a little clink!

Meh. MEH. This was lame. But...but she couldn't focus on that. No focusing on failing. Just keep trying and focusing on the spell working. Focus on slowing the knut down. Yes. Okay.

The knut was tossed up once more, her wand was waved, and she said, "Arresto Momentum!"

...Yes! It'd definitely slowed down this time, and she managed to catch it easily in her hand.

Theo paused and looked around for help for about five minutes. But SIGH, nothing. And to be honest, he didn't want help because that made him look pathetic. A big prefect couldn't even get this little charm right. He took another deep breath and attempted to throw the bracelet into the air again.

Only HIGH this time.

"Arrestomomentum." He said it so quickly, that he forgot the wand movement completely. The bracelet fell onto his desk with a thud. More dramatic siiiiighing.

Come on.... throw higher.

Theo was a CHASER... he knew how to throw stuff.

Pretend it's a QUAFFLE.

He lobbed the bracelet into the air with an almighty force and waved his wand at it. "Arresto Momentum!" And to his shock, the bracelet stopped in the air....... Well, how about that.

Thinking Quidditch got stuff DONE.

Marissa grab her quill and scribbled down Arresto Momentum and the phonetic spelling so she would say it right.
"Arresto Momentum" she said and pretended to wave a wand. "Arresto Momentum." she said again so she wouldn't forget.

Wheee! So, now she totally had the incantation down, though it was sad that it was missing 'spritz'. Cat glanced at Alice to see if she could tell whether or not the Gryffindor was thinking the same thing. However, she was not well trained in the art of Legilimency, nor did she plan on doing that any time soon, except it did sound like a pretty cool idea.

It was going on the list.

Caterina selected her quill, not caring to look for something more appropriate. The quill would fall quite fast, she knew, but that was only going to make it more of a challenge. She'd be even more awesome when she got it to work too.

With careful avoidance of Sophie and Alice who were on either side of her, Cat tossed the quill in the air and flicked her wand at it. "Arresto Momentum." Whoooops. That thing WAS fast. She picked it up and tried again, determined to catch the fast moving thing. Toss. Repeat. "Arresto Momentum!"

Hey! Lookit that. It had slowed down and she was able to easy catch it out of the air before it even had a chance to get to the floor again.

Once Schuyler's eyes left those two younger Lions, the newly fifteen-year-old attempted to focus her attention on this incantation at hand. Arresto Momentum. So... wave of the wand, and then the whole commanding voice thing. Right. Got it. Figuring that she wasn't too keen on breaking anything right away, she practiced the wand movement and few times before uttering the words.

"Arresto Momentum." And then again. Lovely. Now for ACTUALLY trying the spell on something. She turned and searched through the contents of her bag. Hmmmm. She fished through it a little more before pulling out a nail file. That would work - nice and light.

Cutty plopped back down in his seat and let out a sigh to let the world know that the party had officially ended. He leaned forward in his seat and sat with his face on his hands and wrists while Professor Fuller explained the how intention is related to effect, which he found useful. For if he could master intent and direction there wouldn't be a spell out there that would pose much of a challenge for him.

"Ah-rest-owe Mowe-menn-toom!"

But then there was the fact of his accent. Didn't matter, right? Loads of witches and wizards from all over Britain spoke within their regional styles and they were able to do magic just fine. This must have been, Cutty figured, where intention played in.



"Ah-rest-owe..." Cutty's incantation practice was mercilessly sliced by the sight of the tiny girl throwing and then being hit by her own eraser, which sent him into repressed bursts of laughter. "Ah-ressss'sSSss'ssSs." He was going to keep his teeth together. He was going to keep his teeth together. Even as he hissed in spurts trying to keep his laughing at bay.

It wasn't long before his whole body began to shake and the only thing he could get to come out was "Mowe...Mowe..." Unwilling or possibly unable to let go of any of the effort he'd made thus far in spite of his laughing spell.

Still with a big smile she stared at the pink hairbrush she just had caught while she had SUCCESSFULLY completed the first part of the spell, she had slowing the object she was using down, and... SHE HAD DONE IT! She was a VERY, VERY good student and she was now VERY important because she was a third year now! And because she had done THIS good, she was sure that she could do EVERYTHING good! HAHAHA! Her smile widened while she thought about how good she was and hos proud she was about herself, she owned the word now!!!!!

She pointed her wand again at her hairbrush while she threw it into the air and repeated the spell she had used before, "ah-REST-oh - mo-MENT-um!" Waving with her wand she pointed at her hairbrush but... she missed and her hairbrush fell down and... fell down ON her face! "AHH! STUPID HAIRBRUSH!" Yelled Sonea annoyed while she rubbed her face, worried that she had a red spot on her face now. So... she grabbed her pink hand mirror and checked if she was okay. Seeing that the didn't had a red spot on her forehead she checked also her hair,- it was always important to look good right? So, when she had fixed her hair, and she looked VERY good at the moment, she flipped her hair over her shoulder and lifted her chin. She would try it again and THIS time she would do it good, simply because SHE WAS GOOD.

And... she tried it again! "ah-REST-oh - mo-MENT-um" said Sonea while she had threw her hairbrush in the air and... It worked! "YES! I'M THE BEST NOW!" and she clapped in her hands!
