You step through the door of the Charms classroom to find...
A winter wonderland.
Everything is ice-and-snow. There are ice ridges and little snow-capped hills and, in the centre, a large ice rink. The desks are arranged on this ice-rink in neat rows, with the Professor's desk set at the front. Given that the ice-rink is charmed for now, it shouldn't be hard to get to your desk. The moment you sit down, you notice that the weather isn't downright cold: it's cool and pleasant, but not bitter.
Professor Descoteaux is leaning against his desk, his posture graceful and just a little lazy.

Uh... what kind of question was that?
Anyway, it was a simple one and Helena knew the answer. "A charm is an enchantment that makes an object or... even person?" It was the same for humans or creatures, right? "Behave in an unnatural way," the girl finished, with her hand raised.

Salander tilted his head for a moment and smirked, deftly thumbing the blonde Gryffindor beside him. Yes to him she was a charm -- his Lucky Charm; sweet and oh so nom-y
But a thought occured to him "Professor, can it be said that Charms is another term for saying spells in general? You know like those that isnt covered by Transfiguration or DADA?"

The classroom had begun to fill, now. There seemed to be more simultaneous greetings than he could count, being directed at him. Quite a babble of voices and confusion, really, considering that some of the students had decided to slide into the classroom.
"Hello, hello. Had a good summer, all of you, I hope?"

Zara simply nodded. Summer was fine. It was always like that.
Raising her hand, "A charm is like a spell or something. It makes something act or behave weirdly or differently. Yeah, makes objects do something out of the usual."
What did he mean by 'what do you mean?' Did he not remember that Rae was present when Lexi and Treyen were talking about Ellie? Rae lowered her voice a bit. "You two are dating.. Yes? So why are you back here?"
After listening to Treyen's answer Rae mumbled without thinking to herself.... "Changes an objects behavior... Prof Chaud's got a lot of Charm on me." Again, she didn't think. Hopefully no one heard that.
Well, at least now Rae was keeping her voice low. That was nice, because he didn't want to lose any more points by chatting in class. But, really, the class had JUST started, surely Descoteaux wouldn't mind a single phrase leaving Treyen's lips, yes?
Er, wait. They were dating? Right. Sort of. Yes. He was entirely confused by her question, though. Was there any sort of rule that specified that he had to seat next to her or something? "It's Charms, I don't do the front row," he whispered, keeping an eye on Descoteaux, and looking at the front row again.
So, yeah, Rae, it was a FACT that Descoteaux hasn't earned the right to have a Lockhart in the front row.
AND THEN...AND THEN...Hey, Rae, you could've changed a couple words--DUDE! Treyen's eyes widened, because he was next to Rae, it was perfectly clear that he heard that.
He only shook his head. Just exactly how fun was Charms going to be if Rae was around?

Hmph. Having sat down just before class started, thankfully without too much trouble or any greetings since she just wasn't in the 'greetings' mood at the moment, Evelyn had pulled out her notebook and quill, RESISTING the urge to be staring at anything and everything in the room.
Seriously, it was winter wonderland OUTSIDE. Did they really need to have it inside as well? Really?
....Did they? Hmm?

Hearing the question however, Evelyn made the mistake of looking up, only to be distracted with all the white! It was blinding. Distracting. Annoying. Ehhh. Having been slow to answer, the Slytherin took a deep breath and raised her hand, only to slowly lower it.
...
.....Uh huuuh.
Eying Rae for a moment, Evelyn shook her head slightly, slightly wishing she wasn't sitting so close now, before her gaze flickered over to the Professor. Ummm....ew? Wasn't this the part where she turned green or something? Or did she get over that. Hmm, answer. Right, answering the question. "A charm..." Good MERLIN did Rae really just say that?! "...is a spell that makes something act in a way it doesn't normally do."

Mhhhhh how could you describe what a charm was? That was a kinda though question and the blonde was really trying to come up with something.Tipping her index finger against her chin an idea popped up in hr head."A charm is a spell that causes a person or an object to act out of the normal,to change their behaviour or looks.",she said raising her hand.
Well, Treyen had not been expecting the snowy atmosphere inside. And, sure, it was nice and all, but he was completely reminded of Kingsley and the time they had to build something to keep them warm.
Kingsley.
Treyen smiled at the thought and stepped inside, "Professor," he said, nodding once, and...why did Ellie have to sit in the front row?? Seriously. The boy only smiled her way, and kept on walking towards the back of the class.
Descoteaux hasn't earned the front-row status. Only Lafay had managed to do so by now. And...Kingsley and Nolan too.
Ellie returned the smile from Treyen. She was obviously already looking in that direction. At Little Professor.
Honestly, though, she was disappointed he sat...well, Ellie wasn't bothering to check just how many rows back he was. But the front was awesome. Little Professor was awesome. He needed to accept FACTS.
SPOILER!!: Noooo. Still little. Yes. :(

"Don't flatter yourself." Thoughhh....Ellie clearly thought Little Professor WAS amazing.
Charrmmmsss. "A charm is a spell that makes something do something other than its original intent." Kinda sorta making sense? Maybe? "Like making a desk dance." Heh.
And this is where Ellie took the time to take in the classroom...more than she had upon first entering.

Once again, Ryden Di Marco found herself nursing an itch. She'd found a desk FAR FAR back in the classroom, but even that far back she hadn't managed to escape the stupid ice rink. SURE, it looked pretty awesome when you first came in and the fact that it wasn't freezing cold made that even better but UGH. IT WAS DECEMBER. What happened to summer?
Anyways, the itch. SO. The professor had asked a simple question - what is a charm? - and Ryden wanted to answer. She REALLY REALLY did. But after that stunt she pulled in Astronomy, things were going to have to get a little more stimulating for her brain to actually let her reply. She'd made a decision to NOT be active in lessons - this was the result.
Biting her lip and shifting in her chair, the brunette tried to make herself as comfortable as possible.
"A charm causes something to take on a quality that it wouldn't normally have."
DAMMIT. Ugh.

Jamie had been sitting near the front of the classroom, twiddling with his Quill as he waited for the lesson to begin. Charms sounded like a fun little lesson, so the third year was quite optimistic. Once it had finally started, Jamie's attention turned to the professor. Well... the question sounded easy enough, so he only assumed that it was a trick question. Oh, well...
"Aren't they just... spells?" DUUUH, no they were probably a bit more than just regular old spells. "They do funny things to objects." And not humans, right? Jamie wasn't sure about the complete capability of charms, but he would surely find out.

"I think a Charm makes an object better than it naturally is." Eino said with his hand up. At least in other senses of the word, that is, not in a magical sense, a charm was a word used to described a sense of delight. Without its magical meaning, to say to charm something or someone would mean to capture their attention by pleasing them with beauty and attractiveness. They were called charms, after all, and not hexes or curses, must be because they make things pretty. "Plus, objects that have a lasting charm are considered bewitched." Bewitched was a good word too, right? "Most of the Charms I know are usually used to enhance the target, like a Growth Charm and Color Changing Charm, or to protect, like the Bubble Head Charm, Shield Charm and Patronus Charm."
A very weird and basic question. It's a question she never actually thought of before. Thinking for a minute or two, trying to figure out what is charm in general, by memorizing all the charms she knows. Raising her she said, "A charm forces objects, and Errr maybe also people, to not act their usual way like beginning to levitate or just simply vanish." She put her hand down as she began explaining what she thinks a charm is.
She has never been the first to provide an answer, but unlike always, Aiden looks quite eager to answer. Calmly raising her hand, Aiden's eyes begin to look firy as they are burned with determination.
"Charms is an emchantment cast on objects and even living things and cause them to behave unnaturally,"said Aiden enthusiastically.
A Charm... "A charm is... a spell or enchantment that changes an object or person and makes it act differently to how it would normally. I think muggles have lucky charms but that's just superstition." said Aurora, she wasn't sure she had worded it very well but it would have to do.
"A charm is .. uh .. you know you point your wand at an object and mutter a spell and the object will probably do some cool thing that would generally surprise muggles. So yeah a charm is charming objects into doing something." Orlando answered, feeling unusually chirpy. All cause of Professor Jared of course. The dude was genius. And an example of his genius was the current state their class room was in.
So cool.

Of course Presley knew what a Charm was. She'd seen them done her whole life. Now describing what a charm was, was a whole other story. She thought about it for a long time. Well, it was magic that you used in your every day life. Sort of. Every other persond seemed to have covered the answering, so Pres said nothing. Maybe she needed to do more reading-up on charms.
"Well, a charm is a spell that causes a change in the behavior of an object, not it's physical apearance", Chloe saoid raising her hand and responded verbatum having heard it so many times before.
Sitting quietly in the class, she ran her fingers through her hair as she heard the professor ask the first question and she thought for a moment or two and she bit her lip thinking hard about what a charm is and she kept quiet because she knew that something ridiculous was going to come out of her mouth so she just started making notes of everything people were saying class. At least one person has to have the right answer.

In the time that the class had filled up, she had time to adjust her beanie, pull out her notebook and quill, and... rest her mind a bit before she got excited again. "A charm is a type of spell that makes an object do something that it otherwise wouldn't on it's own. It does so without really changing the object." Her hand went up for a brief second before it was back down on her desk, head resting in it.

Everyone was shouting out answers. This class was insane! Sophia smiled at everyone as she continued to sit quietly in her seat until the time came for her to answer a different question. The class pretty much got it summed up.
She pulled out a piece of parchment, and listed things the class had said.
Once she couldn't listen to everyone any longer, she looked up and caught sight of Dallin, whom she had met earlier in the week, and flashed him a smile. Maybe he'd seen it?
Back to class. Cue pulling out of HUGE Charms book, and waiting impatiently for the Professor to start talking again.
"Charm... Charm...", Janet thought. She was a muggleborn, which means she knows way less than her other friends. In the muggle world, a charm is some sort of magic ( "It's actually true", she thought ) or miracle. Maybe. She wasn't sure. All the other students answered so surely and quickly, but she tried to answer.
"Professor, I think a charm is like an incantation, a spell. it includes transfigurations and others", she answered. She had her fingers crossed, hoping that it's correct.
The classroom had begun to fill, now. There seemed to be more simultaneous greetings than he could count, being directed at him. Quite a babble of voices and confusion, really, considering that some of the students had decided to slide into the classroom.

"I had a good summer, Professor," Brielle muttered under her breath, knowing somehow that her small voice wouldn't stand out with all the shouting, greeting and chatting going on around the classroom. When the professor asked his first question, Brielle listened as a sudden hush enveloped the room, making it really seem like just another winter day. Then, students began answering one by one. Clearing her throat, Brielle decided to speak up.
"Professor, a charm is a spell that can cause objects to behave in a way that is unnatural to them, most of the time to the preference of the caster. For example, I could make a teapot dance if I would have wanted,"And if I could. "I think charms are not only limited to objects though, but also to humans and the such. But it does not necessarily mean changing the physical and natural state of the object as Transfiguration does," Brielle finished, flushed. Her heart was beating a bit faster than usual. Had anyone even understood or heard what she said? She sat back down, now awaiting the Professor's next words.
What was a charm? Well that could go either two ways: Riley sure had lots of charm on the girls around Hogwarts and would love to discuss how that went but was almost 78% sure the Professor had meant the other type of charm, the one the class was devoted to.
Oh. *cough*
The Gryffindor raised his hand to answer the question. "Professor, a charm is a type of spell that is performed on objects or people to make them do things or act a certain way that is not found natrually in the object or being. For example if you made something float that would otherwise be firmly on the ground." He finished with a nod, his eyes still wondering around the winterland classroom.

"Or," Sophia began, smiling at the Gryffindor. "If I may add an example on to that... If you made something dance that originally was stationary."
She paused. She wasn't going to talk originally, but maybe...
"Basically, with a charm you just change the properties of an object without changing it's shape. Sometimes the original purpose of the object stays the same, sometimes not, like if you make something dance around like I suggested. You know, a statue's original purpose was to just stay in one place. But with some charm to make it move, that's not the original purpose. Well, other than artwork, I suppose."
