Default Charms I: Glisseo

You step through the door of the Charms classroom to find...

A winter wonderland.

Everything is ice-and-snow. There are ice ridges and little snow-capped hills and, in the centre, a large ice rink. The desks are arranged on this ice-rink in neat rows, with the Professor's desk set at the front. Given that the ice-rink is charmed for now, it shouldn't be hard to get to your desk. The moment you sit down, you notice that the weather isn't downright cold: it's cool and pleasant, but not bitter.

Professor Descoteaux is leaning against his desk, his posture graceful and just a little lazy.

That was one determined Lioness, right there. "Good job, Selina," Jared said, resisting the urge to grin.

When he ran out of pimples he pulled his shirt up, pointed his wand at his bellybutton and said the incantation. IT WAS GONE!!!! He rubbed his belly and his button was gooooone! "Finite Incantatem!" He said with his wand pointed at where his bellybutton should be and soon enough it reappeared. Good for pimples, but weird on bellybuttons. He then tucked his shirt back in his pants and looked around for other things to charm.
Okay, the pimple thing? That had been... Unique? Unique. But Eino's next choice of target?

...

"How about trying it out on something in your surroundings?" Jared suggested, green gaze sweeping over the icicles and ice-chips and blocks of snow in the classroom.

Just saying and all.

" Gliss-SAY-oh.." she muttered the spell as she waited for something to happen, but of course nothing did. As always. She gave it at least four more goes then decided it was time to ask for help. Like always. "I-I don't know what I'm doing wrong professor. I can't seem to get it right."
It didn't seem as if Nika was having trouble with the incantation or the wand movement. "Grip your wand like this -" Jared demonstrated a different, firmer grip on his own wand. "Sometimes, if you can't identify what you're doing wrong, a different wand-grip can work wonders."

Yes. Magic could be tricky.

Now that was a new one.

"Here you go," Jared grinned, conjuring one and using his wand to set it down on her desk. "It should last for a couple of hours."

Gwen looked around and noticed everyone practicing that spell. ‘Um… but- what’s the wand…movement? Are we just supposed to hold it?’, the young Ravenclaw asked. Did that sound stupid? Probably… Well, since everyone is just pointing the wand at something, then maybe there is no movement we are supposed to know. Meh, moving on…

‘Glisseo’, she pointed at her notebook. The front cover of the notebook started looking… slippery. Or…like water… But the effect disappeared soon. Something happened, but the spell wasn’t good enough

Aiden wants to make her textbook the slipperiest she could make. So, she has to undo the charm placed on the textbook earlier. Pointing her wand towards the textbook, Aiden mutters the counter-spell incantation. "Finite Incatatem," the book returns to its original state.

Mustering up her full concentration, Aiden says the incantation clearly. "Glisseo," the book looks smoother and slipperier than before. What should she test on next?

Iris had been pretty quiet for most of the lesson. Sure, she'd answered the odd question, but she'd been too distracted by all of those Pinnacle numbers that she'd uncovered in Arithmancy the other week. They still unnerved her a little.

Why did her first pinnacle have to talk about the possibility of marrying young as a bad thing? ...

Wait.

What?

... Glisseo. Yes. Right. Non verbally? Piece of cake.

Iris sat there for a moment, trying to think of something unusual to use the spell on. Her book? ... Nah. Too many people had done that already. Her shoes? ... Nah. Descoteaux had given that suggestion. She didn't want to risk doing damage to her shoes, anyway. Ooh! That was a good one! She took out the small replica dragon that Robert sent her last week out of her bag. (OOC: Like the ones in The Goblet Of Fire) The dragon kind of had a life of his own, so he wasn't going to like this... but tough. Iris wanted to see an iceskating dragon.

Setting him down on the desk, she aimed her wand at him. Non verbally, did he say? Focusing on the words, Iris concentrated on the dragon (which was now sniffing at her notebook). "Glisseo."

The head Girl waited for a moment, watching at the tiny, harmless dragon looked up at her, startled. He was suddenly unable to stand up properly; his legs slipping under his body and causing him to flail (Or whatever the panicky movement was) and hiss angrily at Iris. Ooh... that's not good. He actually looked scared. And he wasn't even properly alive! It was only a bit of magic that made him look like he was alive! ... Even so, Iris felt instantly guilty for scaring the living daylights out of the thing. As the dragon model attempted to make it's way around her desk, Iris pointed her wand at him again. "Finite Incantatem!" she thought.

Almost instantly, the dragon returned to it's usual state (albeit a little annoyed at the disturbance). Iris scooped it up and examined it. Robert would actually come to Hogwarts and kill her if he found out that she'd done damage to the model...

Ugh. non Verbals? Seriously? Now Finlay was the best at magic really. He was pretty bad to be honest, but then again he wasn't very academic. He was a little nervous now, because he had a feeling that he was going to make a fool of himself....which wasn't very good when he was head boy. Finn glanced around at the other students, and watched the head girl for a second. Oh. Of course Perfect headgirl would be able to do it. Finn sighed, deciding that he should probably have a go anyway.

Now...what to perform the charm on? Ooh. His miniature broom that his father had sent him a few weeks ago. It was the new model that would be coming from the Carmicheal broom-making company. Pulling it out his pocket he placed it on the table. Yes. This would do indeed. Without really glancing around again, he didn't really want to know if people were watching him he pulled out his wand. Now...he hoped that this would work, because he would be pretty disappointed if it didn't. Concentrating he pointed his wand at the broom, and thought the words Glisseo really hard. It didn't really work though. Finlay rolled his eyes. Oh. He was totally the most epic seveneth year....not.

Penny wasn't sure she could pull this charm off... but she thought she had better try at least....

Pointing her wand at her textbook, she took a deep breathe, concentrating on a slide.."Glisseo", looking at her book and realizing that it was still a book..... ok do it again !!

"Glisseo"... her textbook was still a book...... frustrated now.. she thought maybe i'm saying it wrong..trying to remember how the professor said it....

"Gliss say oh"... and before her eyes the book became a mini slide..."Oh this is very cool", look Professor, i did it !!"... letting him see the slide, before she said the spell to reverse the book back again...

"Finite Incantatem"...

Kurumi removed her wand from her pocket and looked around for something to test the spell on. Well, first she really ought to practice the incantation she supposed and returned her wand to her pocket and simply waved her figure around as a temporary substitute. "GlISseo...glissEO...gliSSSSSSSeo!" Kurumi chewed on her lip for a moment. Nope, those didn't sound right. "Glisseo!" There, much better.

After repeating this to herself several times, Kurumi looked down at her shoes. This spell certainly would have come in handy when she had tried to teach Heather how to ice skate. Something to remember for next time.

Sitting back down in her chair, she removed her left shoe and turned it over so the sole was facing upwards and set it on her lap. Kurumi then closed her eyes to visualize the shoe becoming flat. Flat like a baby's bottom...wait...that wasn't how that expression went. OH! Smooth as a baby's bottom.

Removing her wand again, Kurumi pointed it at her shoe and spoke, "Glisseo!"

In the next instant, well, her shoe was flat...just not in the manner which she had hoped it would be. Now it looked like a giant had stepped on it. Flat as a pancake. Oops...

Vashti quickly scribbled down some notes on the charm, finishing just as the professor mentioned fifth years. Hmm? What were fifth years supposed to...

o____o

Nonverbally?

But she'd never cast any nonverbal spell before - she hadn't even tried yet! How on earth was she supposed to do this?! How in Merlin's name did someone cast nonverbals anyway? Just think about the spell and hope something happened? That seemed like her best bet. Hopefully it worked.

Vashti drew her wand and pointed it at her desk. So, uh, Glisseo? Gliss-SAY-oh. Glisseo. Nothing happened. Glisseo! Still nothing, but she was starting to feel very stupid. GLISSEO. The only change was a growing feeling of stupidity. She must look very silly just staring at her desk and her wand pointed at it with nothing at all happening.

She sighed.

Audrey pointed her wand at her charms textbook, "Glisseo!" she said as the book became as smooth as possible. She was proud that she had practiced her charms before class.

She was waiting for the moment that Professor FrenchFry announced that they were able to practice the charm, and even if they weren't allowed to and they were going to move on to some other charm...well...she may as well have a little fun and cast it on something anyways. Like Cookie Girl's seat. Hehe. But alas, the young Lion was sitting far away so, that was out of the picture.

....Non-verbally?

Eyebrows raised in slight surprise as she looked back to the Professor. Charms was her best subject, and she had already pretty much had the glisseo spell down. Non-verbally shouldn't be a problem, should it? Glancing down to her textbook, she eyed it for a moment before pointing her wand at it. Glisseo!

Stare.

Narrowing her eyes after a moment since it didn't seem like anything happened, Evelyn reached forward and kinda...poked the notebook...with her wand. MEEP! It was MOVING! Or...sliding. Gliding? Whatever it was doing, it was slowly making it's way to the side of her table and...it slid right off. Hehe.

Wait...wait it was sliding away. Hey. HEY! Stopping it with her foot, she scooted it back and picked it up. Finite Incantatem! Yea, lets see you try and slide away from her now! Pffft.

Right enough. Jared gave the girl a bit of a smile.

"Good job, Penny."

The way some of the students were behaving, one would think they'd never tried a nonverbal before.

...

Light-bulbs, Descoteaux. Maybe they hadn't.

Jared cleared his throat. "The standard method of learning to cast a spell nonverbally is first learning to cast it verbally." That sounded right enough. Considering he was still trying to get the hang of this imparting-what-you-know-to-a-bunch-of-students thing. "It's possible to cast a nonverbal without ever having cast its verbal variant, but - more often than not - far more difficult than it is to cast the former after having mastered the latter. Once you've learned how to cast a spell verbally, casting it nonverbally requires nothing more than focus and concentration. Choose your target, clear your mind, envision the outcome, think of the incantation and perform the wand movement."

Should he mention the bit about it all being much harder than it sounded?

...

"It can take a few tries."

Just saying.

She tried to stand up, but slipped. The floor is still cold, and slippery.
In the middle of sweeping over the classroom, Jared's gaze came to a pause on the first year who had slipped. "Alright there?" He asked, helping the Hufflepuff to her feet.

"It seems most of you've learnt how to cast the charm, so we'll move on to the next part of the lesson. If you get up, you'll see that there are coloured, uneven panels on the floor and in the surroundings." Now. Uneven panels coloured red, green, blue or, yellow. The house colours. "Glisseo your shoes, or grab a pair of skates from here and put them on -" He waved to a pile of skates next to his desk. Fish some out, kids - "Because skating around will make your task easier. Your task is to look around the classroom, spot the uneven panels that bear your house colour, and cast Glisseo on them. The panels are charmed, so casting Glisseo on them will flatten and de-colour them. The first house to de-colour all their house-coloured surfaces, gets fifteen points."

OOC: If your charrie hasn't gotten the hang of Glisseo yet, you can include them mastering it in your next posts. Instructions for the activity? Students get up = chairs banished to the back of the classroom. Each house is supposed to have the same number of coloured panels but, in actual, I'm not keeping count. So this isn't about which house is the quickest or most active. Just about... which house is being most awesome? Having the most fun? That sort of thing. ^.^

The floor/ rink is charmed, as mentioned in the first post, so no one is going to get hurt even if they fall. Okay? Okay. This activity is worth eight house points. Minimum of five posts = eight points. They don't have to be super long or super detailed. Just.. good or creative RP'ing. I'm going to leave this lesson open for thirty-ish hours or so. If you have questions, you can PM or VM me.

Nooooo!

...

Helena surely remembered her skating lesson with Kurumi last term, and it didn't end well at all. You know, bruises all around... her lower part. However, Helena pointed her wand at her right shoe, and said "Glisseo," then did the same with her left one. She stood up and took a pair of skates.

Let the fun begin...

The girl skated towards the nearest green uneven panel and pointed her wand at it. "Glisseo!" There. One panel done.

They have to SKATE around the ICE RINK?! But Aiden cannot skate! Merlin's beard! What should she do now?!

She sighs and carefully approaches Descoteaux's desk and grabs a pair of skates. Then, she sits on the floor ice and puts the skates on. Aiden has troubles on getting up. Her legs keep spreading apart.

After managing to stand properly with her knees trembling, Aiden moves slowly like a snail while supporting herself to the wall. She spots an uneven green panel on the floor.

"Glisseo," says Aiden clearly, but her voice is low while pointing her wand towards the uneven panel. The initially uneven and coloured panel turn back to it's normal colour and becomes smoother.

Hey! This is not quite half bad! She could enjoy this lesson. Grins...

I'm just one of those pretty little liars... | | I'm held down in this starless city...

Maybe it wasn't that difficult to skate, you know?

Helena moved further, looking for another uneven panel that was green as well. She was getting closer... and closer... and she was even starting to enjoy skating...

... and she fell.

Good thing that professor Descoteaux had charmed the floor. "Glisseo," the girl said, before standing up again. At least she wasn't going to get any bruises this time.

Aiden tries very hard to refrain herself from laughing at her falling housemate. She pretends to scratch her nose, hiding a wide grin spreading accross her mouth.

Aiden does not dare to skate in the middle of the classroom. Afraid that she will fall down and wounds her ego. She keeps herself as near as possible to the wall. As she looks around the classroom, Aiden spots another uneven panel. But this time, it is on the wall.

Wand pointed directly at the uneven green panel, Aiden concentrates on casting the charm. "Glisseo," the panel becomes even and the green fades away.

Kurumi looked down at her pancake shoe and sighed. If Reverto didn't fix the problem she supposed that she could always use it at a sort of board to slide around on, right? Flipping over her shoe, Kurumi supposed that it was rather smooth and that she could probably skate around on it, but best to practice on the other once more, right?

Slipping off her other shoe, Kurumi set it on the desk and pointed her wand at it. "Glisseo," she whispered with a slight hint of nervousness in her voice. She ought to have been paying more attention to where she had placed her flattened shoe, for as soon as the spell left her wand and hit her other shoe, it too melted and joined with the other pancake shoe to create, well, a bigger pancake. Kurumi picked up the mass that had once been her shoes and set it on the ground. Surprisingly, it glided very well on the icy surface, so she decided to stand on it and give it a try. Hey, when life gives you a flat board, glide on it, right?

Keeping her left food on the shoe-board, Kurumi used her right foot to push herself along the ice and ended up using it like a make-shift snowboard - or in this case was it an iceboard?

No matter, Kurumi surfed her way around some desks and students until she found herself in front of one of the Gryffindor panels looking rather odd in its crimson color against the white tone of the room. "Glisseo!" she chirped and the panel smoothed out and lost its crimson glow.

Phew. At least she hadn't melted it!

Kurumi then kicked off on her shoe-board and began gliding around the classroom looking for her next panel.

Kimalia raised her hand at this,"It allows any rough surface to transform into something slippery!" Kimalia smiled happily at the memories of her and her brother sliding down the stairs after convincing their father to do so for fun. "You could make a staircase turn into a fun slide with it."

Kimalia nodded enthusiastically, they were going to actually perform a charm or at least attempt to. Now what to turn smoothly. Looking around at the gorgeous but tall and rough icicle statues gave her the answer.

Taking a deep breath, Kimalia performed the swish and flick movement pointing at one, "Glisseo!"... It did nothing, frowning briefly, Kimalia wondered, Maybe I have to get closer to it. Slowly walking out of her seat she came not too close to the icy block and tried it again.. and again. She was beginning to feel frustrated. "Thankfully, I don't have to do it non-verbally." She had eyed at all the older students in the class while saying this. Okay, okay, deep breath.. and now Kimalia had to keep in her mind what she wanted the icy block to do.

With another deep breath, "Glisseo!" Kimalia pointed her wand directly at the block to see it magically smooth out into a flat table like block. "Wow!" Kimalia breathed out cold air from her mouth, whilst wrapping her scarf more. It was still pretty chilly in here.

Kimalia's eyes widened immediately, Slytherin definitely needs the points. Nearly running (more like sliding dangerously but without any collisions) she ran into a pair of skates and donned them on. "Oh, ice skating.." Kimalia after standing felt herself begin to wobble, but waving her arms frantically she stayed on balance.

Kimalia didn't know how to skate on ice, more like walk on ice with her skates, while good that she won't fall, bad that she would be moving slower than others. Kimalia skated around the area and calmly pointing her wand saying "Glisseo!" at every green uneven colored panel, the one behind the professor's desk, the few hanging above the ceiling and the others by the door, Kimalia felt confident that she had gotten them all.

Selina looked around the classroom at all of the students who were now crambling to put on ice skates. It seemed, to her at least, that every year in charms they has this kind of race. So not wanting to waste any time she broke into a sprint for the ice and jumped. Mid air she pointed to her shoes and shouted, "Glisseo!" Once she landed she was skating about and she found the first sign of red and shouted, "Glisseo!" One down.

Still remained at the side of the classroom, Aiden's eyes scan for more uneven and green coloured panels. She looks at some other students skating happily. How she wishes she could skate.

There is an uneven green panel in the middle of the ice rink. Better mend it before someone skates on it and falls down. Again...

Focused as she points her want at the panel, Aiden mutters the incantation. "Glisseo," Though it is not obvious, Aiden is enjoying the lesson. At least she does not have to sit and listen to lectures for the whole lesson.

Selina was skating around when she heard a familiar chirp of her fellow Charms Champion Kurumi Hollingberry. The two, together, in Charms... well it always did get very competitive. Although this year it did seem more lax then her previous year at Hogwarts. And for that she was glad. She did not have to run around like a chicken with no head for the assignment. Besides Selina had still never truly recovered from the Chocolate Frog incident. The smell and look of the frogs still made her queezy.

Then she skated up beside Kurumi and said, "Hey there. You ready for this again?" Just then she spotted a panel that was the proud colors of the red brave lions. She pointed her wand and said, "Glisseo!" It smoothed out to be a nice calm white.

Deep breath.

That fall was SO not going to make Helena give up. Nope. The Slytherins must win this, of course.

The girl skated some more, looking for other uneven panels, and also trying to get better at skating. Now she really regretted the fact that she didn't practice some more the last term. But... there it was!

She pointed her wand at another green panel, and said "Glisseo." And with this one, there were three. Hehe. How many were there, anyway?

As Kurumi continued to glide around on her flattened shoes like a surfer on some waves, she spotted Selina before she took note of another panel sticking out behind the second year.

"I think the better question is are YOU ready? It will go faster if we are both on this thing," she called grabbing her friend by the front of her robes and giving her just a slight tug onto the back. Thankfully, Kurumi had melted her shoes enough that there was enough room for the both of them.

Kicking off again, Kurumi plunged forward towards another Gryffindor panel. "Glisseo!" she said with a quick jab with her wand and the panel was no longer a vibrant red. "You hanging on alright?" she asked looking over her shoulder at Selina before making a rather sharp turn and propelling them forwards towards the opposite side of he classroom.
