Default Herbology Lesson Three: Planting Puffas/Fluttas

Today's lesson was not in the greenhouses like ordinarily - no, today was extraordinary. Extraordinary weather, nice and warm, called for a special lesson.

Anastasia Bunbury was seated barefoot in the student garden, chillaxing on the grass in a very very verrrry old pair of blue jeans and surrounded by puffapods in pots. This was the southwest corner of the garden where not-so-many plants were located...instead, there seemed to be long two furrows of earth flanking a pathway. Clearly it had been turned up for planting something.

"Come and have a seat! Let's chilllllll for a lil bitttt," your professor greets you with a loopy smile. "Sit sit."

"Oh, but I did forget to mention something - flutterby bushes, since you noticed they're rather friendly and move a lot, form emotional attachments easily. So if you're nice to yours and take good care of it and plant it well, it might be loyal to you and expect you to come visit it lots."

She eyed the other students shiftily, like that was a hint. "So maybe you could think of it as a planty pet? Teehee."
"Okay Professor" Kayla replied with a nod and then she listened as the Professor went on to explain the emotional attachments of the plants and she sighed. Of course they did, well she supposed if she pretended they were pets then she should have no problems.

Quote:
1) Dig a hole deep enough that you could set your pot in it and the top soil of the pot would be level with the groundish.

2) Water the soil a bit but not enough that it becomes like mud.

3) If the pot you have is made out of pliable, flexible material, massage the pot so the roots get loosened a bit. [This will apply only to the cheap-o flutterby pots.]

4) Carefully, gripping the plant at the base of its stem, remove the plant from its pot. MAKE SURE YOU GET ALL ITS ROOTS!

5) Gently set it inside the hole in the ground, guesstimating to make sure there's enough room for the roots. Make sure it doesn't sink (otherwise you'll need to add more dirt to the hole before you plant it).

6) Retaining a hold on the plant being transplanted, massage its roots some more until they are loose and spread out in the hole you made. Don't rip or tear at the roots though; gentle is thee word.

7) Use your shovel (or your hands, mouth, neighbor's shoe, whatever) to gently fill in the space over the roots/around the base of the plant with the soil you displaced when you first dug the hole.

8) Pat the dirt up around the base of the plant and then make a ring, like a moat, so it has space for the water to seep in. And remember, you don't want any exposed roots.

9) WATER the PLANT.

10) Repeat steps 1-9 with your puffapod, preferably planting it right next to your own flutterby bush. Remember to space them 2-3 feet apart!
"Come on girls" Kayla said as she picked up the two pots and moved over to find a nice spot to plant them. She grabbed a shovel and started to dig a hole, every now and then she placed the pot into the hole until she was satisfied that the hole was big enough. With a flick of her wand and a muttered 'Aguamneti' she gave soil a light sprinkling of water just enough to dampen the dirt.

Kayla picked up the flutterby bush and gently squeezed and massaged around the pot to loosen the roots and soil. Then placing her hand over the top of the pot and placing the stem in between her forefinger and middle finger, carefully she turned the pot upside down and pulled the pot away from the plant.

Quickly moving over to the newly dug hole, Kayla placed the flutterby bush inside and made sure that the top of the soil of bush was level with the garden bed, happy with that she gently pulled the bush back out and carefully teased the roots loose from the compacted soil. Satisfied that the roots will have enough room to move she placed the flutterby bush back into the hole.

Using her hands Kayla placed the dirt around the base of the flutterby bush making sure the roots were covered well and then continued placing more more dirt around the plant until it was now fully enclosed in the hole.

Taking out her wand once again, Kayla gave it another flick towards the flutterby bush and watched as water flowed from her wand, making sure to wet the soil well so that it could travel down to the roots. She sat back and looked at her handiwork, "Well now don't you look stunning in your new spot" she murmured before turning to the puffapod, "It's your turn now."

Humming happily to himself, Clifford set about digging a new hole roughly 3 foot away from Fluttery - this one was for Puffy. Teehee. Sure the hole was just about the right side, the sixth year knelt back down and retreived Puffy. With an ickle massage, he managed to get Puffy out of her pot and into the hole.

Fluttery though, didn't seem very happy. When he put Puffy in the hole he'd dug for her, Fluttery shook her twigs and leaves in what looked like ... protest! Uh oh.

"Professor!" The Prefect asked, waving his arm around crazily. "I don't think Fluttery wants Puffy to be her new neighbour! What are we meant to do if our flowers aren't friends?" Booo.

Ohhh, exciting! Anna turned to look at the two rows they'd be planting puffapods and flutterbys in. It was a pretty little area, and Anna was excited at the chance to see all the pretty plants grow into their full potential. Once she'd received a shovel, Anna headed over to the area she was to plant in and got right to work.

Anna jammed her shovel into the ground and began to dig, making sure her hole was big enough to sit the pot in. Oh, and she had to make sure she dug it to where the top soil would be level with the ground. When she'd determined that she'd done just that, Anna moved on to step two. Whew. This was going to take a while. Grabbing her wand and casting Aguamenti, Anna watered the ground, being craeful to not make it muddy. Studying her pot and determing that it was indeed pliable, flexible material, Anna massaged the pot until she felt the roots loosen. Okay, now for step four, the step Anna was a bit nervous about. She didn't want to break the roots or anything like that! Sighing, Anna grasped ahold of her plant at the base of its stem and carefully removed it from the pot, roots and all. Oh, oh, oh! She'd done it correctly! Awesomeness!

Alright, so now it was time to put the little plant into the ground! Anna watched as she put the plant into the ground. She was supposed to check and make sure the roots had enough room. The plant didn't look like it was going to sink either! Eep! Success was on the horizon! Once again, Anna massaged, this time massaging the roots to make them loosen and spread out a bit more. When she'd done that, Anna picked up her shovel and filled in all the little spaces. Alright, time for a bit more H20! Casting Aguamenti once again, Anna gave her plant a nice little drink of water. With that, the flutterby was planted. One down...puffapod to go.
Anna eyed the spot on the ground right next to her now-planted flutterby. This would be the spot her pretty, little puffapod would go in. Smiling, Anna skipped over to her puffapod, ready to plant in and place her two friends side by side in the dirt. Once she had it on hand and ready to plant, Anna picked up her shovel, jammed it into the ground, and began to dig. Hmm...this was where she had to make sure her hole was big enough to sit the pot in to where the top soil would be level with the ground. Anna stopped shoveling and bent down to examine her hole. Ohhh, just right. Anna laid aside the shovel and pulled her wand back out. With another Aguamenti, she was once again watering the ground, stopping before it got too muddy, of course. She didn't want a muddy, dead puffapod. When that was done, Anna bent down and massaged the pot to loosen the roots. She then grasped ahold of her plant at the base of its stem and carefully removed it from the pot, roots and all. Four steps down...six to go.

Anna studied the hole and the plant as she lowered the puffapod into the ground. She wanted to make sure the roots had enough room and that she wasn't killing her plant with the way she was putting it into the hole. As soon as that step was done, Anna stood back and admired her work. So far, so good! Anna massaged the roots to get them to loosen and spread out a bit more. These little roots were key parts to the plant's survival, and they deserved special care for sure. Grabbing her shovel, Anna filled in all the little spaces, then watered her little puffapod. Ohhh, pretty! Now her flutterby and puffapod were in the ground and ready to grow, grow, grrooowwww! Anna sat down on the ground next to her plants and softly touched their awesome little leaves. Eep! New friends!

Freya payed attention to the instructions and took a quick look at her Flutterby bush, taking into account how deep she should make the hole. She put on a pair of gloves and instead of using a shovel, Freya used her hands to dig a hole for her plant...tools and her never got along usually. After a couple of minutes, Freya took her Flutterby bush and pot and placed it into the hole to check the depth; thankfully, it fit perfectly. 'Thank goodness.'
She then carefully removed the bush from it's pot, not tearing a single root, and then placed it carefully into the hole after, Freya had watered the soil with a careful 'aguamenti' spell to give the newly homed bush some H2O.

It took a few moments, but Freya made sure that all the roots were seperated and not tangled in a large mass; very gently of course.
She filled the gaps around the sides of the plant to stablize it and offer it with the proper material to grow...if it would any more. Letting go of the bush, Freya was happy to see that it stood quite proudly in it's new home.

Freya pat the dirt down around her plant to make it even with the rest of the ground, then made a ring in the soil as she was instructed to do. Once again, she brought out her wand and cast a gentle 'aguamenti' charm again to directly water the plant.

After making sure that her Flutterby bush was perfectly placed, Freya moved to her puffapod; repeating the process for that plant as well, but making sure to give plenty of room between both of her plants. 'No point having them too close and letting them kill each other off...'.

"Can I have another one please? I'm sorry." he said, his head drooping slightly. He wasn't about to be honest and say he hadn't really been paying attention, oh no he was not.
Annie wandered over to Willyboy and started inspecting his flutterby, which was all sorts of funky. "Tsk tsk tsk tsk tskkk," she tutted, petting the poor bush which seemed to be dropping and all depressed now.

"Nonsense, m'boy," it went with the Willy nickname, "You don't need another bush! Your flutta is loyal to YOU, she wants a hair cut from YOU. Not another bush. I don't have any to spare."

The redhead started wandering away, calling over her shoulder, "Just say the spell a few times correctly and then try to fix your mistake. No big harm done as long as you apologize to your bush then."

Bunbunz just happened to wander by Clifford when dun dun dunnnnnnn she saw the markings of a war about to break out - not between the boy and his bush but rather the puffapod and the flutterby.

"Oh my. Oh my," the professor muttered in a sad tone. "When plants don't get along... the results are never pleasant..."

She shook her head slowly and knelt to the ground between the two holes. "This reminds me of how Devil's Snare got its start... wizards not listening to their instincts... cross-pollinating what shouldn't be touched..."

Annie tsked one more time and then looked up at Clifford. "Luckily," she said in a much brighter tone, "neither of your plants are extremely dangerous. I think we just have a case of JEALOUSY here."

Bunbunz put extra emphasis on the word jealous and turned her head sharply to stare down Fluttery, who seemed to quake just a bit under her ice-blue gaze. "Remember when I said flutterbys like to form emotional attachments? Well it seems that someone doesn't want to share you," she nodded at the Prefect, "with another someone, aka Puffy the Puffapod there.

"You're just going to have to give them both a stern talking-to and explain that there's plenty of Clifford to go around. I mean, there is, isn't there?" She wiggled her eyebrows at the handsome Slytherin and stood back up again. "Go on now, give them both a pep talk. I wanna hear it - and the rest of you peeps," Annie gestured toward the other students, "gather round. You might encounter this same problem in your studies later, with magical plants that don't agree with their neighbors."

Oh noes. Clifford hadn't thought Fluttery and Puffy not getting along would be THAT much of a big deal. Really.. they were just plants at the end of the day, right? Professor Bunbury though, seemed to think differently.

... but jealousy!? Honestly? Fluttery didn't want to share HIM with Puffy? But that was just ... silly! Rubbing the back of his neck anxiously, the Prefect listened to Professor Bunbury's solution to the problem. He had to give his plants a pep talk. And she wanted to hear it ... along with the rest of the class. Oh bummer.

Gulping, Clifford turned back to his plants and took a breath. Well, here goes nothing, he thought.

"Fluttery ... Puffy.."
he started, glancing between the plants and pointing one stern finger at them. "This is NOT on, okies?" Ack. He was rubbish at stern voices.. "Cliffie here as PLENTY o' love to give, alright? And both of you's are gonna get your fair share of Cliffie loving."

... did that sound wrong? Eh.

"Now, I want you BOTH to behave like the good little plants you are," he carried on, waggling his finger at them. Siiigh. Where did he go wrong? How did he manage to raise such silly plants? Was he a bad parent? "Don't go leaving me disappointed now.. or NONE of you will get any Cliffie loving." He glared at Fluttery.. and it seemed his 'pep-talk' had done the trick for Fluttery seemed to wilt in embarrassment.

"Well? How was that, ma'am? Stern enough? Am I a good Daddy?"
Wheee!

What? A planty pet??! Forget about it! She already had a neglected Crup, there was no way she'll be thinking of a plant as pet..it was too much...and Snowy will get jealous...is she wasn't already jealous of Seven.

The 'Flipinskinit' charm worked, in the end, but she wasn't sure the result was what was to be expected.

SPOILER!!: How she followed the instructions

She sighed, but got to work, not wanting to get in trouble or anything.
Quote:
1) Dig a hole deep enough that you could set your pot in it and the top soil of the pot would be level with the groundish.
With a lot of effort, simply because this was not much to her liking, she managed to get it done.
Quote:
2) Water the soil a bit but not enough that it becomes like mud.
Aha! "Aguamenti" she said, almost in a whisper as she pointed her wand at the soil...just a bit of water...not too much, like Bunbury said. Who would want mud on their clothes, anyway?

Quote:
3) If the pot you have is made out of pliable, flexible material, massage the pot so the roots get loosened a bit. [This will apply only to the cheap-o flutterby pots.]
Ack! Simply annoying. But she should stop complaining and try to enjoy this a bit. It wasn't like History, where she had to remember, well, History...this was practical...she should enjoy it.
Quote:
4) Carefully, gripping the plant at the base of its stem, remove the plant from its pot. MAKE SURE YOU GET ALL ITS ROOTS!
Carefully, very careful...Kaika managed to do so...or so she thought...even if she did it wrong, she was alright with, because she was not going to start over.
Quote:
5) Gently set it inside the hole in the ground, guesstimating to make sure there's enough room for the roots. Make sure it doesn't sink (otherwise you'll need to add more dirt to the hole before you plant it).
Alright. But...oh, no...the plant sank...no worries, though...she only needs to add more dirt, righty? Yes, adding more dirt before placing the plant inside. However, she was holding the plant with one hand, so the dirt was sort of conjured into the hole. And...

There! Good...it couldn't sink now.

Quote:
6) Retaining a hold on the plant being transplanted, massage its roots some more until they are loose and spread out in the hole you made. Don't rip or tear at the roots though; gentle is thee word.
Kaika was whistling now, for some strange reason..and a tiny crack was heard...ummm, yes, a piece of root. She continued to whistle and pretended it didn't happen...who would notice when everyone was busy with their own plant?

Quote:
7) Use your shovel (or your hands, mouth, neighbor's shoe, whatever) to gently fill in the space over the roots/around the base of the plant with the soil you displaced when you first dug the hole.
Yup, done easily with her hands. Why bother with the gardening tools when they were so far away. Yes, she didn't bring them close.
Quote:
8) Pat the dirt up around the base of the plant and then make a ring, like a moat, so it has space for the water to seep in. And remember, you don't want any exposed roots.
This felt weird, though. And at the same time good. Patting the dirt was certainly a change of scenery for her, and...she didn't notice but, she was done with the butterfly or flutterby or whatever. And she never sang to it. Genius.

"Aguamenti" she said, again, and watered the plant...

Now, it was time to begin doing the same with the puffapod.

After Chris had sucsessfully planted his Flutterby bush he next moved on to his puffapod plant.

He moved about two to three feet away from the first plant and then used his shovel to dig a hole the same size as his first one. He sat the potted Puffapod into the hole and saw that it was exaclty deep enough. 'Im getting pretty good at this planting stuff' he thought to himslef with a smile. He wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his arm and then pulled his wand out.

He used the Aguamenti Charm to spray the cool, clear water into the soil making it just wet enough and then stopped. Chris then put his wand in the poket of his robes and lifted the potted Puffapod. He gripped the bottom of the stem and pulled very gentily until it was free of the pot.

He then massaged away any excess dirt that was from the pot and spread some of the roots. He then placed the puffapod into the hole and saw that it sunk a little bit. Ok. All he needed to do was put a little mre dirt in. So he pushed some of the soil back into the hole with the edge of his shovel. 'There, much better he though' as he placed he plant back in the hole.

He then finished adding the remainder of the soil into the hole and patted it up into a mound around the base of the plant like he had done to the Flutterby. He then stood back to admire his work with his Flutterby Bush and Puffapod Plant.

The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas.

William nodded sadly, giving his plant a pet as she walked away. "Okay, well you had your hair cut, let's see if I can make you pretty." he said to his bush, picking it up and hugging it tightly, but not too tightly. "I'm sorry bushy." he muttered as he put it down, this time putting his wand down beside it. He got more comfortable and crossed his legs beside his plant, whispering the incantation a few times in his head, this time making sure he got it right. His bush moved pathetically beside him, as if egging him on to fix his mistake. He sighed and smiled at it and picked up his wand. "Okay, this time I know I have it. You ready?" He asked the bush at his feet as he picked up his wand.

Taking a deep breath he held his wand out, his eyes focused on the major disaster in front of him. "flipnsnipwitit" He said, doing the karate chop thing with his wand. IT began to vibrate in his hand a different feeling than before and he watched as it began to slowly transform into a razor scissor thing. He tilted his head and looked down at Bushy, "You ready? I'll be gentle." he said softly as he lowered his wand and took off a lumpy part. It looked better already as the bush sighed and lifted itself up. "You liked that eh?" He asked smiling gently as he took off another leaf and a twig he had completely destroyed. "You'll be small, but you know what? Small is good, don't let the other bushes bully you." he said as he trimmed away the last of the twigs.

SPOILER!!: Instructions

With his bush properly trimmed now and looking much better as it puffed itself out wiggling a bit he nodded. Okay, now for the planting process he thought looking at the instructions and picking up his plant. "You want a nice place right? I have just the place then, right here." he said to bushy as he began digging a small hole, large enough for the roots and small enough so that Bushy would be comfortable. After the hole was dug he looked at it and looked at the pot, thinking it would be level with the ground.

Taking his wand he said "Aquamenti!" in a clear voice and watered the ground, enough so that it was wet but not muddy. With the watering finished he looked at his pot, seeing that it looked rather flimsy and picked it up, setting it on top of his lap and began massaging it so the roots would give way more easily. For some reason he didn't feel weird doing it, his Bushy was happy by the wiggling motion it was doing so he knew he had to be doing something right.

Now for step four he thought looking at the list again and picked up his pot again, this time getting a good grip on the stem of Bushy. It wiggled in his hand making him giggle as he carefully took it out of its place, roots and all. From what he could see he had gotten them all, the only thing left in the pot was soil and bits of dead leafs and twigs from his previous encounter. Patting the soil gently around the hole so it wouldn't cave in on him when he set Bushy into it he nodded, placing the bush gently into the hole. To his relief it didn't sink but sat there.

Placing his hand in the hole he felt around for the roots, his eyes focused on his job as he found them and began massaging them gently, feeling as they spread out around his fingers. He continued doing this slowly, methodically until he was sure they were spread out enough before grabbing his shovel that was beside him and gently moving the dirt he had dug up into its new home again. He was gentle around the roots, to make sure he didn't accidentally cut them or hurt Bushy in any way. With he was satisfied he looked again at the instructions and nodded patting the dirt around the now-filled hole before making a ring with his finger around the bush.

There he was finished, except for one thing. Picking up his wand again he said "Aquamenti" and watered Bushy, making sure to get everything that was needed. When he was finished he gently pat Bushy and smiled. "There, not too bad eh?" He asked the bush.

Wheee!
Anastasia took a step back from the plants and crossed her arms, seriously watching Clifford baby-talk his plants. Noono, it wasn't baby talk, it was parenting. Yep, that was it.

Cliffie-loving was the key...and indeed, Fluttery appeared to understand the point. Bad flutta.

When the boy was all finished, Annie nodded seriously and then broke into applause. "Excellent job, Prefect Carden, and what a fine example of how to talk to your plants if they aren't behaving." She beamed widely and then turned to the rest of the class.

"If you haven't done so already, please continue the planting with your puffapod next. When you're done, uh, make note of the homework and then you can be on your way."

She skipped down the dirt path a little ways to scribble with her wand some more.

ooc: you still have about 24-hours to finish planting before I close the thread.

3. In general, how should you behave around a flutterby? What sort of 'precautions' do you need to take when pruning one? (2 points)

4. What's the spell we use for pruning/trimming? How do you get it to work? And can it cut through other things? (3 points)

5. Name three plants - magical or mundane - you would like to study next term. (2 points)

Jane patted her now in the ground flutterby bush. She was just happy it liked her so much. So, she went on to plant Mrs Puffa in the ground. She was happy to see it doing so well after that day when she sang her heart out to it.

2 to 3 feet?Like feet feet or like foot feet?

Jane wasn't accustomed to measuring in feet. She used cms! So, she assumed it was her foot feet she needed to use and stepped 3 times away from her flutterby to mark the spot for Mrs Puffa. She put Mrs.Puffa in the pit and covered her when....

SPOILER!!: plant position

Mrs Puffa started attacking Mr.Flutterby!!! THE HORROR!She turned to the Professor and raised her hands.

"Professor??How far exactly is 3 feet? I think it's further than this..."Jane was pointing to the 3 footsteps in the ground and bit her lip. This was embarrassing.

YAAAY!

Now his plants were behaving, Clifford was free to finish moving Puffy into her new home. He just hoped Fluttery wouldn't beat her up when his back was turned. If she did.. well, she was getting NO Cliffie loving. Hmpf.

After plopping Puffy in the hole he'd dug a while ago for her, Clifford gave her roots a nice massage until he was sure they'd spread out all awesomely. He was just about to fill the hole back up with dirt when out of the corner of his eye he spooted a Gryffindor having trouble.

Her plants were fighting too! GASP!

"You need to give them stern talking to!"
The prefect explained, crawling on his muddy hands and knees towards her. "My plants did the same.. Professor Bunbury says it's cos they're jealous! Go on.. give 'em a pep-talk."

Again she dig a deep hole just enough that the pot in it and the top soil of the pot would be level with the groundish. "Aguamenti" she said pointing to the pot.

She skipped the point 3 and moved to the change. Now she was little more confident but nonetheless cautions.
Again she grabbed the the plant and its roots and carefully put it in the new pot and once more it didn't sink. Woot!

She started massaging the roots until they were lost and spread out in the hole. Then she picked up the shovel and filled the empty spaces in the pot with more soil.

And now the "ring".... and water "Aguamenti!"

"And yesss !! I'm done! Woot woot!" The plants were really cute especially the Puffapod and Ana was very proud with her work.

Eeewww..Muddy Carden was crawling to Jane. But oh well, she DID cheer for him during the consolation game. She nodded at his advice and went back to the now strangling-each-other plants of hers.

"PPPssssssttt!!Mr. Flutterby! It is RUDE!!VERY RUDE!to fight back with a woman plant, MR!Now, apologize to Mrs. Puffa at once!!"Jane was being stern to her Flutterby even though it was Mrs. Puffa that needed some stern action. She looked at Mrs Puffa and wanted to tell her to apologize for attacking Mr Flutterby...but then..she saw. She saw Mrs. Puffa bearing a seed.

She's gonnaa have baby Pufffasss!!No wonder she attacked Mr. Flutterby. She needs her space! And some privacy. Awww.

Jane patted Mrs Puffa and saw Mr. Flutterby wilt for a moment, as if bowing his head and apologizing. She smiled and redug Mrs Puffa a hole 5 more footsteps away from Mr. Flutterby. She waved bye-bye to the flutterby bush of hers who was already feeling a little lonely, so she pat-pat it and moved Mrs. Puffa away. No more fights!! Voila!!!

Muddy Carden is a genius!BunBunz will be happy to know Mrs. Puffa is seeding!!

Jane turned to Carden once again.

"PPPssssttt!!Carden!!They're not fighting!!!Thank you!!"Jane was whispering.

There was Clifford thinking Jane's plants were fighting because of jealousy like his.. when really, REALLY it was because the puffapod was seeding!? EEEP! She was gonna have ickle baby puffapods!

Still on his hands and knees like a big baby, the sixth year tilted his head curiously to one side as he watched the Gryffindor interact with her plants. She seemed like a good parent. Hehe.

"No problemo," the Prefect winked before turning around and crawling back to his own work place.

Ahhhh. Now where was he?

AHA!

Humming their working Herbology anthem, Clifford filled Puffy's hole up with dirt, drew a moat with his finger and used the Aguamenti charm to give her a drinky. WOOT!

"Flipnsnipwitit!"Jane got it right this time as she shot the spell at Mr.Flutterby. He needed some pruning after the strangling and what not. She drew a smiley face in the dirt next to the ring where water was supposed to go. And then she got distracted.

SPOILER!!: :)

She wrote his name next to the smiley.

"Aguamenti!"
she watered Mr Flutterby and Mrs Puffa and stepped back to look at her work. Aaaahhh! Success!! Jane was hopping with joy..sorta. She brushed the dirt off her hands, but it was no use. She looked like Muddy Carden now.Muddy Jane. Eww. She reached inside her pocket for treats to give Carden for being helpful.

"Pppsstt!!Carden!!One's for Evangeline,"Jane handed him 2 big chocolate bunnies and went to pack her stuff.

Clifford, who was making sure he'd done aaall the steps correctly spun around when he heard someone 'PPSSSSTTing' him. Ooooh!!! CHOCOLATE! Nummy, nummy!

Grinning from ear to ear, Clifford took the chocolate that Jane was offering him. One for him and one for Evangeline!? Wheee! Evangeline'd love that, she wasn't been feeling so good lately. Stoopid muggle fly. Perhaps some chocolate would make her aaall better.

"Cheers, Jane," the Prefect thanked the Gryffindor and moved to pack up his own stuff and copy down the homework Professor Bunbury had written in the dirt. "Catch you later!"

Swinging his rucksack over one shoulder and jumping smoothly to his feet, Clifford gave Fluttery and Puffy a pet. "I'll be back to see you ladies soon, okay? Behave! Thanks for the lesson, Professor Bunbury." He nodded before heading off.

William stood up and walked over to his puffapod, who he had dubbed, "Puffy". "Okay Puffy I want you to behave now, there's going to be a bush that'll move. this is your new roomie, be nice, don't fight and play gently okay?" He said cheerfully as he picked up his plant and gave it a hug. Walking over to his Bushy he took three steps, which was about three feet from the bush and plopped himself down, digging a hole in the ground he hummed happily as he stopped, picking up his wand and watering it with the Aquamenti spell.

This done he picked up Puffy and frowned. This pot was hard, a ceramic almost and so he couldn't massage it like he did with the other. no worries he thought skipping to the fourth number and carefully grabbing the stemmy part and tugging gently, releasing it from its prison. If plants could sigh, this one would be sighing happily he thought as he looked in the pot, making sure no roots were stuck in the bottom. He gently set Puffy inside his new home and let go, noticing that it didn't sink. He was getting good a digging holes he mused as he smiled and checked his progress.

Retaining a hold of his Puffy, he carefully began massaging the roots, humming his fishy song as he went. He watched as Puffy's roots slowly began moving, getting acquainted with their new home. He did this for a few more minutes, massaging and humming until he looked down and noticed all the roots in a comfortable position. This finished he took his shovel again and carefully filled his hole up with soil and nodded once more when the hole was finished; no roots in sight. Finally he was almost finished he mused as he patted the soil gently, making a small circle around Puffy and making sure it was perfect. Nothing was too good for his Puffy he thought picking up his wand again and watering it once more.

Finally he was finished and he stood, stretching as he noted the homework. Bending down he took out a quill and parchment, writing it down messily before throwing everything into his bag and grinning at the professor. "Thanks for a great lesson Professor!" He said cheerfully, his earlier depression long gone. He grinned once more and headed off for the castle, a serious hunger grabbing him.

Qaz didn't have any trouble transplanting her flyer, as she spent a lot of time gardening in the summers. Somehow, she found playing in the dirt very calming. Once everything had been completed to her satisfaction, she finished her notes, copied down the homework assignment, thanked the Professor and headed back to the castle.

Turning to her Puffapod, Kayla gave it a smile. "Okay it's your turn now pretty girl" she murmured as she picked up a shovel and begun digging a hole three feet away from the flutterby bush. Once the hole was big enough, she gave it a sprinkling of water.

Gently running a spade around the inside of the pot so as to be able to release the Puffapod from the pot. Again she placed her hand over the top of soil and placed the stem of the puffapod in between her forefinger and middle finger and then turned the pot upside down gently pulling the pot away from the plant.

Kayla placed the puffapod inside the hole making sure there was plenty of room for the plant's roots to move around. Lifting the puffapod back out, she gently teased the roots loose from the soil before placing it back into the hole.

Using her hands Kayla began to place the dirt back into the hole and patting if softly as she went along. With that done she flicked her wand and gave the puffapod a good watering.

She dusted off her hands and sat back on her heels admiring the two pretty plants. "Now girls I want you two to behave yourselves and don't go listening to any of those of other plants. You two are by far the prettiest bushes here." Kayla stood up and stretched her back out, now it was time to go and do the homework. "I'll come back to see how you two are doing." She packed up her stuff and headed back to the castle.

"Come on little friends!" Plymouth sang and started hugging branches individually.

Miranda must have been daydreaming, because the last thing she saw was someone standing next to her, clearly very happy, and then he began to scuttle around with the bush.
Miranda giggled and nodded. Indeed it was fun to make new friends. Watching him for a bit, she thought that if he was having fun doing this, then she must too!

After listening to the professor's instructions, Miranda began to work. Tounge between her teeth, she began to get her hands messy!

Miranda began to dig a hole with her shovel, making small grunting noises. Yeah she was working hard.
"Aguamenti" she mumbled and waited for the water to stream. As it did she smiled and watched for the soil to be watered enough.

Picking up her plant, Miranda gave it a hug and nuzzled it before she began to massage the pot. Grabbing the stem firmly, but as not to hurt it, she removed the pot, looked at the bottom to make sure she got all the roots, and put it inside the hole.
Carefully, she put it down gently, her eyes wide as if waiting for it to sink. But it didn't! Yay!

Now she had to massage the roots, nipping at the dirt for the soil and roots to become more loosened. As this was done, she began to put some soil back with her hands. Oh they were dirty now and so were her robes. Eh.
Now she made the little ring around the bush, looking carefully to make sure there were no roots poking out. Miranda smiled content.
"Aguamenti!" she said firmly, and watched the water watering the plant.
Wohooo! she raised her balled fists in a 'we-are-the-champions' sort of way and began to get up, dusting off the dirt from herself.

Allrighty then! After a short break, Miranda began the same procedure but with her Puffapod!
Hmmm, 2-3 feet. Miranda looked down at her feet, then instantly removed her shoes and wiggled her toes.
From where her Flutterby was planted, Mrianda began to walk 3 feet, turned to watch the others and saw that their plants were more spaced out. She really had no idea how much 3 feet were. Her feet, however, were probably to small to actually measure right. So going back, she took larger steps and then began to work, barefoot, with her Puffapod!

After going through all the steps, she said the watering spell again and began to water her newly planted...plant. Wohooo!

Aaaand she was done!
Walking over to her bag, she took out some parchment and her quill and scribbled down the homework.
Packing away everything, she shouldered her bag, grabbed her shoes and waved to Professor Bunbury, "Byeee Professor, thank's for the fun lesson!" and she skipped off to the castle, her bare feet making flip-flop sounds on the ground.

Mariel glanced up at Professor Bunbury before looking back down at her flutterby plant appraisingly. Yep, he looked like he had a decent enough haircut. So that apparently meant that it was time to transplant. Putting on her dragonhide gloves - because she was not about to get her fingers grubby with dirt - she glanced around for any sign of shovel. Finally locating one, the second year looked around for an appropriate spot for her plant and began to dig.

Tilting her head to examine the hole she had dug, Mariel decided that it looked about big enough for her flutterby, so after setting down the shovel, she pulled out her wand and cast aguamenti at the hole, allowing a small amount of water to dampen the dirt. Deciding the hole was now ready for the plant, the thirteen year old gripped its base with a gloved hand and gently but firmly tugged until it was free of the pot.

As she lowered the plant into the hole she had dug, the Ravenclaw girl gently massaged the roots until they were somewhat spread out, then let go so she could finish the transplant.

Neighbor's shoe, huh? That would make things a little more interesting. Not seeing any loose shoes as she looked around, the 2nd year resigned herself to again using the shovel since she certainly wasn't using her mouth as was suggested. After filling in the gaps with the dirt previously dug out, Mariel then proceeded to use her gloved hands to pat down the dirt lightly around the flutterby, tracing two fingers around the base of the plant in the dirt to dig a moat. Another aguamenti carefully aimed at the dirt and she was finished.

Wait, not finished? Repeat steps 1-9 with a puffapod... Okay and apparently those had to be spaced 2 to 3 feet apart. Carefully grabbing a puffapod plant, Mariel placed one foot in front of the other and then again next to her puffapod to measure out three feet and began the ritual all over again, first digging another hole. Once done, she watered it slightly and carefully pulled the puffapod out of its pot, separating the roots and set it into the new hole. Pushing more dirt around it, she once again dug a small moat and watered it.

Now she was finished, right? She certainly hoped so because she was herbology-ed out for the day as she pulled off her dirt-caked gloves and stuck them back into her messenger bag. After she copied down the homework, she gave a little wave to the professor and took off towards the castle.
