Dragons, huh? Haruka thought for a second, trying to recall what she knew about dragons. Everything she's ever learned about dragons was from muggle fantasy stories. She raised her hand warily. "Professor, in stories like 'Beowulf' and 'The Hobbit', dragons always seem to horde treasure." She continued before she could stop herself. "I mean, Smaug burned down an entire village and captured a Dwarven kingdom just to get the king's treasure." That's when she caught herself. Oops, she was babbling again. She shrunk down in her seat and stared at the table. 'I've got to stop doing that.'

Emma waved, smiling over at the professor, watching as the rest of the students came in. And then, one by one they filled the classroom. And then.. the speech began.

Ooh. Dragons. Emma liked dragons.

"Um, Dragons are like, these giant fire breathing lizards that can fly and sometimes magic can't penetrate them because... scales." Yeah. That was right. Right? Merlin, why was she being so awkward!? This was supposed to be HER YEAR. Time for redemption.

"One of the qualities I think that I would like to have would be the not easily being harmed by magic part, that would be a good thing to have, I think."

Fail.

Well this certainly didn't seem like your typical potions class. They were going to be talking about dragons. Michael put his hand up into the air. "Well firstly, they are awesome magical creatures. Been around for thousands of years." NOD. "Most of all their body parts have magical properties and are used in some way or another. Like wands and potions and stuff."

He was sure he could recite more if he had a text book in front of him but he didn't so..."I wouldn't mind having their protective hide. You would be impervious to curses and stuff."

Making you invincible.

Yeah!

Mo got a salute and she didn't? Alice eyed the guy some more.

But her hand still went up, even if she planned to skip the definition bit, since others had already taken care of that part. "They're special because they're useful, professor. I can't think of any other creature that contributes to the wizarding world with nearly every part of its body in the way that they can. Hide, horns, blood, claws, dung, heart, meat, even egg shells. You name it."

And which trait would she like to have? The first thing that came to mind was their wings and flight, but there were brooms for that.

"I'd want their inability to be domesticated, sir. Dragons are free even when they aren't."

So what did this have to do with potions?

Gwen couldn't help herself, "Dragons are real??" Her voice was slightly alarmed, but mostly excited. Why had nobody told her dragons were real? As soon as the words were out she regretted them. Nothing was going to make her sound more stupid than not knowing a creature existed. "Um, I would like to fly," she responded to the second part of his question. If she could have any trait of a dragon, it would not be the ones where they were humongous and scaly and green and breathed fire. Nope. Flying was their only redeeming quality.

And what did this have to do with potions? She raised her hand again. "Sir, we're not going to chop up a dragon, are we?" Because that would be super-gross, and also inhumane.

Dragons? Well! Adrienne had no clue what they had to do with potions, but the very idea of them perked her up. Ah, dragons, possibly the best magical beast to grace the world with their existence. Adrienne raised her hand. "They're very large, they can fly, covered in scales." That got the first part of the question... "Well, they're incredibly dangerous. It can take, like, at least twelve people just to Stun one, which is a lot, especially when you consider that these people are likely professionally trained. Not many creatures are that resilient." Seriously, their hides were ridiculously thick. "Also, they're really useful. Pretty much every part of them has some cool magical properties."

Now, if she could have a trait of a dragon... Adrienne grinned toothily. "Personally, I'd like to breathe fire." What a way to scare people off!

Right then Potion's professor started the lesson. Bev nodded at Train Boy politely and faced forward...maybe a tad less nervous than in the beginning.

He...did...not...just...say...that.

HE DID. Professor Cosgrach Culloden just mentioned dragons and made it a point of discussion. Beverly almost turned to Train Boy and...she didn't know what, maybe beam at him like a lunatic because DRAGONS.

She kept her resolve though. Keep it straight, Wayne!

Her original plan to lay low and keep her gaze on her parchment was slowly slipping away. She wanted to say something because did not read about DRAGONS almost her entire life just NOT to say something. It was probably a good thing she was sat near the front that way she wouldn't see people looking at her. Merlin. She didn't want to. But she DID.

3...2...1... Her hand went up in the air...very slowly.

"Erm, dragons are one of the mightiest magical beasts ever. They are sometimes referred to giant snakes due to the Greek word for them drakon, which means huge snake." She wasn't whispering, but she wasn't speaking all that loud either. She felt like a ball of nerves. "They also have impenetrable scales/hide...and a set of wings. S-Some have horns while others don't, and their body parts are used in potions and wands--" like hers "-- and shoes and gloves." Woah! Shush. She was talking too much and not even in a linear pattern, but...DRAGONS. DRAGONS WERE TERRIFYINGLY BEAUTIFUL BEASTS. GAH.

"I would like to fly and breathe fire." Honest truth.

Hand down. Red face. She wasn't talking for the rest of the lesson. Nope. That was enough courage for one day.

Leah returned the smile and listened to the professor's questions. Dragons? They weren't going to experiment with dragons, were they? Then she realized that this was a potions class not a Defence class.

"I've heard that they are weak in the eye," the girl said out the only bit she knew of. "so it would be useful if you attack it in the eye if you want to get control of it or something." She added, shrugging. "I also know that dragons are dangerous, but that's common sense." She said, grinning.

A little chat about dragons. West listened to a few of the given answers before putting his own hand up.

"Its illegal to breed them. There are twelve known pure-bred breeds of dragons.. though some books say only ten and don't count the Catalonian fireball or the Portuguese Longsnout. And then there are some hybrids as well, like that one at Gringotts. Some are venomous." West paused and then added, "I don't really want any dragon traits." He liked his West!traits just fine, thanks.

Dragons?

Lana wasn't all too sure what dragons had to do with a potions lesson, but she wasn't going to really question it at the moment. There had to be a reason for the question and she was sure it would eventually make sense.

Sliding a blank sheet of parchment from under textbook, she noted everything that she heard from everyone around her. She was a note taker first and a talker later. Yes, observing before speaking.

Vesper was there.

With careful consideration, she'd trimmed her class list down by a couple. Potions hadn't been chopped, though. Yep, she'd continued on with her study of the subject due to the usual lack of wand-waving required. There was some, of course, but she hadn't had embarrassing difficulty like in other areas. So, she was sat near the back, notebook opened and quill carefully outlining a sketch she'd just completed of the new treehouse...

When she heard class beginning, Ves quietly closed it and put her best effort forward to focus on the lesson. That was probably half her problem. Her mind always seemed to wander in these situations...

Dragons, tho. Vesper loved dragons. Mhm.

"They're beautiful and fierce."...because they were. That was a dream of hers, actually...to go to a reserve and sketch the dragons in person. Especially the Antipodean Opaleye. She desperately wanted to see one of those. Also, was she speaking kinda low? Yea, a little. Everyone else was talking, though, and it was easy to lose ones voice in a crowd. She did this often enough.

"I'd like to be more fierce." Mhm.

Dragons were definitely interesting creatures. She thought for a moment before raising her hand. "I think that i would like the protective traits of the dragon. Dragons protect their young better than any other creature." she gave a small nod. yes, protection. good.

Mweeeeh potions. Kevin had heard stories from his parents about this subject and the way they described it it sounded pretty ...boring. His stare was focused at the front though not looking at the Professor but behind him at the calming blue walls. His head lay in his hand while he supported himself on his elbow and listened to the question. Dragons?

His two different eye colored eyes shifted from the wall and a hint of curiousity shot in to them. They were gonna talk dragons? Now THAT was cool! He heard a couple of answers, most of them being fierce which he noted were non-Gryffindors who wanted to have that trait. Kevin did not need that though, he was FIERCE enough. "Dragons are...." wait...what WERE Dragons exactly? He had heard of them but... "dragons" really smart Kevin... "And i like to be able to breathe fire!" He resisted the temptation to open his mouth and demonstrate how he would breathe fire.

Not only did the entire room look different - what with the new and prettier wall colour and everything! Sophie approved -, but the subject to be studied sounded nothing like Potions, in Sophie's opinion. But what did she know anyway? The topic made her immediately think of Mordred, of course, and that already made her happier about it all. Not that she cared that much about dragons, but he did and that was good enough. Besides, wasn't he studying advanced Potions or something alike at uni? And it was related to dragons, yes? There you are, then! It all made sense. Kind of.

Sophie already liked this new professor. The room was prettier AND he made her think of Mrodred. Brilliant! Beamy!Grin!

Unfortunatelly she couldn't give an amazing answer about the creatures. She raised her hand anyway. "They are quite powerful in many levels, I suppose." Even by looking at some of them a person could be terrified already! At least Sophie thought so. "But Potions-wise I guess they are quite useful, as Alice said." The Gryffindor had mentioned their usefulness in general, but all the stuff she mentioned could be used as ingredients, right? Or almost everything, at least.

"A trait I'd like to have..." The hufflepuff pondered briefly. "Well, I'd like to be more resistent to spells." Like that other Gryffindor kid said. "Their protective hide is brilliant!" Oh wow, would they brew a Potion of sorts that would make them have some dragon trait?? That sounded interesting and scary at the same time! Whooooa!

Cosgrach Culloden. OKAY SO PROFESSOR POTIONS HAD A NAME NOW. Astrid scribbled that into the parchment she took from her bag so that she didn't forget the name. Merlin, it would take her a while to remember all the important and staff people in Hogwarts. It was already hard enough trying to remember the officials and professors in her previous school.

But... DRAGONS. DRAGOOOONS. Astrid was immediately interested about the topic. Hmm... she raised her hand to share her answer. "They're sort of... dangerous but I think they're amazing creatures. They breathe out fire which is cool," she said. Although that was a really random answer to a question, at least she shared her input about the topic, right?

He grinned up at the man. Mr. Lion he liked it. Alright people for now on he was called Mr. Lion RAWR!! Yep it was a good name and he was going to enjoy it, plus the man said he would enjoy the lesson. Even better that had to mean no books and all work. His favorite.

Now as the class began he sat listening to the introduction. Yes yes name and all that stuff can we start brewing. An inward sigh hit him as the professor said he was going to talk first. Lecture? Bart's least favorite part of classes. He slumped to get ready for the long drown out speech.

Did the man just say dragons, DRAGONS! Bart sat up more in his seat and listened. Who cared about talking about what they were or about them. His hand raised and flailed around. This he had to answer, because this subject was awesome.

"Yeah.. yeah what they all said about dragons. I want all of it. I want to breath fire, have sharp claw, and fly." Why just pick one can't they have something that gave everything. "Oh and the cool scales and spikes I want those too." How cool would it be to be a dragon for a day. The destruction he could get away with.

Robin knew what dragons where in theory, or well, more like fantasy. She had never actually known dragons existed before recently so all she knew where from her Grandparent's old stories of dragons, she had loved those stories. She perked up when one of her classmates explained they were influential most in Asia- that explained all the stories. She thought about the third part of the question, dragons where cool and all but did she actually want to have the traits of one? not particularly... she decided that she would rather have the scales and be protected like another one of her classmates had said, but she kept her hand down. She had never learned about dragons in her muggle school, so for now she decided to take notes on what her peers were saying.

She took notes excitedly. This was her favourite part of school.

Adi could see Benny still was not much of a talker. He shook his head. No matter how much he tried to get the guy to talk it never worked...Just then he heard the Professor introduce himself and spoke of Dragons. Adi perked up and raised his hand.

"Dragons are cool creatures! They can breathe fire, that's what stands out about them and that's the trait I'd want to have,'' the second year said. Yep! Dragons were super cool!

Ian was enjoying his new found chair comfort when someone sat beside him. He looked up and noticed Gryffie boy. He sighed and resigned himself to the fact that he would see this boy regularly. Perhaps they might even one day be able to handle being around one another without Ian feeling like the weight of the world was resting on his shoulders.



Ian looked up as the teacher clapped. This made him a little less annoyed that Gryffie boy was beside him. He listened to the opening questions and the answers provided by the other students. When an opportunity presented itself, he raised his hand and provided the answer "I would like ability to instill fear. It wasn't very magnanimous a trait to desire, but he saw dragons as creatures of great beauty and they seemed very confident. It seemed that they had no fear like he did.

Tessa titled her head thoughtfully at the question the Professor had asked. This was Potions, right? She glanced around and saw a few more confused faces and decided to run with the question. She raised her hand and began: "Dragons are special because almost everything of a dragon can be used: claws, organs, skin, even their excrement is used as fertilizer," she spoke.

At the next question, she couldn't help but grin. "To fly," she said with a sigh. Sure, she could fly with a broom... but to fly as fast and as far as she wanted, that would be absolute freedom. "Second to that would be their fire-breath." That could be quite handy in a tight spot...

Dragons?

Did this professor not know what class he was teaching either? This was POTIONS. Not Care of Magical Creatures.

These professors were seriously so incompetent. It was a wonder Caleb learned anything.

But nonetheless, he'd humor him. Despite being totally off topic, dragons were COOL. "Well, there are a lot of different types of dragons, and I think they all breathe fire. In fact their eggs need to be hatched in a fire," he explained. Otherwise they wouldn't get hot enough to hatch.

"I think I'd most like to be able to fly. Like, with wings, not a broom," he added, answering the professor's last question.

Tora thought for a moment about dragons and the traits that went along with them. The first thing that came to her mind was of course the fire and the flying. It seemed that this was on most everyone else's mind too, so Tora thought harder. Besides, she had a broomstick. She could already fly and she didn't need huge wings being all cumbersome when she wanted to walk around. The fire might come in handy sometime... but then again, she had a wand for that didn't she? (She wouldn't admit to herself that being able to breathe fire coupled with an equally hot and fiery temper was not a great idea, but the thought was there in the back of her mind) So what were some other characteristics of dragons? They had magical blood, but Tora didn't particularly want to be sliced open and drained every time someone wanted some just because it was more convenient than getting it from a real dragon, so magical blood was out. What she needed was something to help her along as a human being.

What about eyes? They would be immensely helpful as dragons could see much better than humans and it wasn't a dangerous feature to have (like the fire). It wouldn't cause people to hunt her down (like the blood) nor was it annoyingly bulky (like the wings). She smiled in triumph and raised her hand to respond with a happy "I think having dragon eyes would be the best," before doodling a rather poor drawing of a dragon's eye in the corner of her thus far empty parchment paper.

Bay new he liked this class for a reason. "Dragons, I would like to have their Long life Sir.. They tend to live for a long time if nothing interrupts that.. that is." he said while listening to other students answers.. all great, flying, hard skin, breathing fire..eyes everything was great.. He moved in his chair to get more comfortable.

Anna looked up and paused, Dragons? She felt stupid as everyone started giving answers and here she was having no idea. Erm, she knew they flew but... that was about it... And not all of them even did that right? The muggle born looked down and sighed, "Well... Facts about them... I don't really have any, except the obvious that they fly... and that would actually be the ability I'd want. To fly... Without needing to use a broom of course." She knew she'd seem stupid probably but.. it was better to give some type of answer, right?

Oooh. They were talking about Dragons? In potions? Okay. That was weird. But Dragons were pretty cool. "Dragons are cool..." She mused with a nod. They were. They were... "big. They're big." Though they could be small too. Like she was. "When they are grown up obviously." Because everyone was small when they were little. She smiled, thinking of being as big as a dragon. But that would make her a giant though, and that wasn't nearly as cool. Maybe she could just have baby dragons instead, then she could be the mother of dragons.

"I'd like to have a dragon...." Because they were cool.
