I always loved the Harry and Ginny pairing. Childhood friends or long-term crushes being reciprocated were charming for me to read.
The books portrayed Ginny in the form of a metamorphosis, where she became shy and clumsy around Harry, to eventually blossom into a popular, pretty girl. But it was her strength and courage that Harry saw beyond her beauty that attracted him.
Harry thought that he wasn't equipped to handle another person's emotions like Cho, but in fact, he merely needed someone who shared similar trauma and heartbreak that he did. Harry and Ginny just fit the mold with each other once they were able to form together. She did idolize him when she was younger, but she saw him as an individual and not as an idol, which I'm sure also grew Harry's respect and love for her. I just hope the upcoming show does a better job of portraying this than the movies.
