A muggleborn, perhaps? Or a muggle enthusiast? Cosgrach noted her hard gaze, but he wasn't intimidated. He was on a stage now, kind of, so he had to get used to those anyway. The girl's answer was a nice one, though, and he nodded at her--his approval obvious on his face.

He... should probably learn her name.

Cosgrach was half surprised to see her answer, but they had made peace, right? Well, whatever. He could give her credit only that much.

"Hmm," he muttered to her thoughtfully. Strength. She meant skin strength, right? Interesting for a Ravenclaw...

Sure they did. Cosgrach gave him 2 seconds more before asking: "Yes. Would you like that?" Or did they have another frightened student here?

...

Okay. Someone liked creatures. Books. Studying.

Cosgrach just listened. He was able to keep his mouth shut, but his... he was impressed. Clearly. This one knew more stuff than he did.

"Right on that, son," he said. Well, probably. Sure Cosgrach knew all that, but...

Impressive.

So the young girl just sat there, and listen to her fellow classmates and teacher.

See, it was unlucky for the girl, because his eyes fell on her right after hearing that enciclopedia, and... was she a first year? Must be. He hoped she would find the courage to speak, but even more important: That she would never blast a cauldron.

"But you know." An encouraging nod, because that was correct. "So you would want that." Okay.

Oh? Cosgrach frowned to himself. Had he really made that mistake?

"I'm sorry, Miss Snake," he said with a small smile. Now he knew she was definitely a snake. One of his type. Good.

"That's correct." Miss Snake.

"The trait I would like to possess would be it's fire breathing abilities." Sander provided his last answer.

Another enthusiastic boy. He elicited a smile and nod from Cosgrach.

"Correct, young man." As for the fire-breathing... interesting, indeed. It was going to figure in the statistics in his head.

Cosgrach knew those stories a little bit, because he had spent some time among muggles. At least he believed he knew them. Probably. He wasn't sure. Hmm.

This Smaug. He had to catch the girl after class to hear that story, though. It was interesting.

"Like in Gringotts," he commented, because maybe she didn't know that?

"One of the qualities I think that I would like to have would be the not easily being harmed by magic part, that would be a good thing to have, I think."

Scales were popular, it seemed, more popular than wings! or fire!

What had these kids been through that made them want protection so much?

"Let's make that 'most of the time', because it is nearly impossible for us to harm them," he said with a nod and turned his attention at the Gryffindor boy.

Not you too, Gryffindor!

Cosgrach's face fell a little. This one wanted protection MORE than flying or fire that was generally associated with a Gryffindor's sense of... adventure. Seriously. It was alarming. A boy as young as him shouldn't want that.

"That's right," he said nevertheless, because he had to show he wasn't disappointed with the information part.

"I'd want their inability to be domesticated, sir. Dragons are free even when they aren't."

A free spirit? YES! Cosgrach fully grinned at her.

"They are useful if you can catch them." Freedom, see? Hehe. Nice.

And what did this have to do with potions? She raised her hand again. "Sir, we're not going to chop up a dragon, are we?" Because that would be super-gross, and also inhumane.

A muggleborn? Cosgrach chuckled. She seemed to have answered herself, though, so he focused on HER question instead as he noted the 'flying' answer.

"Not a dragon, no." But they were going to handle more gross stuff.

That was... going to be interesting.

Seriously, their hides were ridiculously thick. "Also, they're really useful. Pretty much every part of them has some cool magical properties."

Now, if she could have a trait of a dragon... Adrienne grinned toothily. "Personally, I'd like to breathe fire." What a way to scare people off!

"You're right, lady." Cosgrach smiled at the Ravenclaw. 'Course she was right. She was a Ravenclaw. Could he expect less?

A fire person here? She got a griiiiiiin like she was a part of a secret club.

S-Some have horns while others don't, and their body parts are used in potions and wands--" like hers "-- and shoes and gloves."

"I would like to fly and breathe fire." Honest truth.

Well? Cosgrach took a step towards her to listen better. Could the class hear her? Because this was GOOD stuff!

"Brilliant, Miss," he said with a griiiiin like the one that Ravenclaw girl before her got. She needed some encouragement?

Cosgrach nodded at the girl. "Right." She was so small, though, that he didn't press further to learn what she would like to have as a dragon trait. He didn't want to scare students at his first class. There would be time and chances for that.

He liked his West!traits just fine, thanks.

Mr. Odessa's hand immediately caught Cosgrach's attention, and he listened to the Captain more seriously than he had listened to any answers.

No traits? He nearly raised his eyebrows, but then refrained from doing so. This kid was... going to be up there, in the seat of Minister for Magic or something. Nothing he said was in vain, probably, so Cosgrach shouldn't be surprised to hear that.

"That's correct, Captain."

Miss Hawthorne! Cosgrach smiled at her warmly, because they got a potions enthusiast here!

"That wouldn't require a potion, though," he said. It was more about the parent? Still, it was great to hear her contribution, so another smile at the young Hufflepuff.

This kid. Right. Cosgrach just observed him without any expression on his face, and nodded at him. He didn't know much about dragons, after all. Fire, he chose? Good one, but no grins.

Just observing.

"A trait I'd like to have..." The hufflepuff pondered briefly. "Well, I'd like to be more resistent to spells." Like that other Gryffindor kid said. "Their protective hide is brilliant!"

"Okay, Miss." He smiled, but also wondered just why a Hufflepuff would want the protection too. Surely she didn't plan to get in dirty duels?

...should he watch her too?

Also, which one was Alice? The Gryffindor Captain? His eyes travelled to her, then to the Slytherin girl who was answering.

Alice. West and Alice. They were... going to be asked about.

"Okay, young man. We'll see what we can do."

...was that possible, though? He was going to look that up.

Nice answer, yes. Cosgrach nodded approvingly, then grinned at the girl.

"Those two would really be amazing to have, huh?" Why need anything else, then?

A Slytherin! Niiiice. No matter how many years had passed, Cosgrach still felt that excitement. Sort of. He was getting it back, at least.

"Right." Fly? Cool. He nodded.

"But it's their weakest point?" She was the Ravenclaw, though, so she probably had her logical logic.

The next question didn't require as much thinking as the last one. "As for their traits... I think it'd be great to be able to fly without the use of a broom. Or... or have the power to protect those you care about even more." Protective hide and all.

"Yes?" Cosgrach turned to the voice and was pleased to see the Head-Huffie was answering. They ought to be an example to the shy ones, after all, before anyone else.

"Very thoughtful and terrific," he muttered to the Head Boy. This was yet another point brought up, and it was a good one. Cosgrach nodded in ultimate approval.

Head Boy had head.

Cosgrach was careful about this one too, because he didn't want hard feelings between himself and her. So, he tried to show he cared about her answer and nodded in the end.

"Correct," he said to the blood, and couldn't help but smile. Ambitious, wasn't she? Cosgrach... didn't know what to say, honestly.

This was another first, experienced with her contribution.

It was good to see that his old house had good students.

He clapped hands once again for them to concentrate as he walked to the front of the class and addressed the whole class.

"You generally mentioned flying, protection, offspring care, skin, eyes, blood and fire," he said, "and some of you wanted a long life. Well, some traits are achievable, some not, sadly." He made a face. "Today, we will focus on fire-breathing. Do you think it's possible to breathe fire exactly like a dragon? What might be this fire like?"
