Early and first thing in the morning after breakfast was the best time for Ancient Runes, the students will have open fresh minds and full stomachs. The classroom was arranged traditionally, Ab made sure nothing was hazardous to the kids when he redecorated the room. The desks and chairs were neatly organized in parallel five rows, that's one side of the big classroom. As you walk through the door and to your left is the professor's desk and blackboard. Professor Botros is sitting on his chair writing something on a parchment.
For this lesson, there is a small pile of mysterious tools next to each desk, it hardly reaches up to your knees. A piece of cloth is draped over to conceal what's underneath it. "Do not touch the pile next to your seat" is written on the blackboard behind the professor. If you do try to remove it with your hand, you'll feel a slight pinch. Do not touch.
Greet your new teacher, take a seat, write your name and year on the piece of parchment set on your table, and wait for the lesson to start. Please stay quiet and do not speak.
ooc:The class has officially STARTED. Don't announce your arrival but pretend you've been here all along. ^.^
HMMM. After listening to Professor Botros explain things and yeah...explain, Bliss was happy to say that...*drum roll*...SHE UNDERSTOOD. She actually did and to show her appreciation, she beamed extra brightly at the Professor. Things had suddenly clicked and the runes were more just fancy patterns, they meant something and they did something. They had a purpose to her! Maybe she shouldn't count out being a curse breaker just yet. Not that she wanted to be one, but actually having the option would be nice. Y'know.
Anyway, time actually get some work done. They'd be lifting the impossible to lift hammer? That obviously sounded plausible. OH. They'd be using the wand-look-alike-things, now that made much more sense to her. Bliss looked at the hammer that sat in front of her, she was tempted to try and lift it, but she knew that she'd have no chance at all. And not because she was teeny tiny. That wasn't related to it, not even in the slightest. >.<
Time to get a ruuuuuuunic wand. Bliss took no time selecting a Gandr and was back in her seat in seconds, ready to get started. But, oh. First they had to...chant. Was the necessary? It MUST be if Professor Botros had asked them to do it. So she went ahead and repeated it. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Bliss repeated it several times, until she was sure that she'd got this strange chant.

"That's very accurate and thoughtful. Great thinking--" He squinted his eyes at the parchment, "--West Odessa." Brilliant kid.
Then the Slytherin captain spoke, Botros nodded at him, smiling. "My opinion is exactly what you just said, actually." He glanced to the rest of students and… yeah, not many were finding this understandable. "Let me try explaining this to the others."
Botros lifted himself off the desk again and went to one corner of the blackboard to explain what had just been said.
"In the original Old Norse manuscripts the name of Thor’s hammer is spelled either mjǫlnir or mjǫllnir." He wrote the foregin words before carrying on, "Many modern Thor’s hammer researchers try to feature the word Mjollnir in the Elder Futhark runes, simply replacing each letter with a corresponding rune." He pointed at the set of runes. "The procedure is incorrect. Mjolnir is an Old Norse word. Old Norse developed in the 8th century as Odessa just pointed out. Due to its difference as compared to its earlier form, Proto-Norse, Vikings were to reform their runic writing system." The professor shot a smile at the Slytherin boys before extending it to the rest of class, "As a result, they adopted the Younger Futhark." Mhmm. "By the end of the 8th century the Elder Futhark was not in use any more. So if we were to write the name of Thor’s hammer in the Elder Futhark runes, we would have to reconstruct it in Proto-Norse. Like this..." He turned toward the board and wrote, melð[u]nii̯az down.
"However, all of you should keep in mind that all of this is just a theory. Researches and studies are still in progress up till this moment." He paused and chuckled. "I admit that my earlier question was a bit of a tricky one, I apologize for confusing you." They were quite adorable handling the script though. Even the most professional researchers made the mistake of trying to decipher this script in Elder Futhark - Abraham didn't think it was a big mistake actually, it was just not what it is.
"Anyways, five points to Mr. Odessa for his great answer and thinking." And he was such a small kid!
Pause. "It's very interesting that Slytherins are the ones who detected the trickery in that question, eh?" Very cunning people, Botros beamed at Odessa, the Snake Captain and Juliet.
Ab stood straighter and concluded, "The correct answer is how Mr. Odessa put it." He wrote the answer on the blackboard for everyone to see.
If Dylan was smug before...it was nothing compared to what he was now. He'd waited while everyone else had answered. Lots of mentions of the Elder Futhark...Didn't anyone know that there was MORE than one type of runic alphabet? In fact, the Slytherin was pleased they were focusing on a different one for once.
Nice change of pace.
Also, it was kinda official. He enjoyed this older, more worldly Professor. He knew things. Dylan quickly decided he'd be in all Botros' classes, on time, and without the need to be difficult.
You are welcome in advance, Sir.
Stoked about activity time, Dylan leaned forward in his seat, eyes glued to the Professor. So...they were going to be using a...Gandr? Runic wand...? Hmph, he'd heard of these things...from his mother, but had no personal experience with them. How exciting!
........Wow. He was actually getting excited about a lesson.
Cue a shocked expression.
Getting out of his seat, Dylan made his way to the Professor's desk, sniggering about Turner's unfortunate punishment. Served him right for being public with his business...Perhaps he could take lessons on how to be discrete...How many times had he told his best mate about that? It was getting old having to repeat himself.
Botros' had said that there wasn't much difference from wand to wand. They were all the same and equal. So, keeping that in mind, he just selected one randomly. Also, the Slytherin Captain felt SILLY for chanting like this. A downfall of this awesome lesson.
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."
Shooting a look at the Professor, Dylan hoped he wasn't blotching this up. Everything had went swimmingly thus far...AND were they supposed to be repeating the chant? Or was it just meant to be said once?
Just to make sure...
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."
Merlin, he felt so tribal right now.
Pause.
"Is it okay to loop this chant?" Honestly, he didn't know.

Alice EYED the runic wand. It was time to use it, wasn't it, now that she'd practiced the Galdr a couple of times? The lioness held up the wand in both of her hands, simultaneously clutching the handle of the hammer, and began to chant. "Uruz uruz uruz.. u u u u u u u u u.. u u u u u u r r r r r r.. u u u u u u u u u.." BUT NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE HAMMER. What? It was supposed to glow and all, according to the Professor.
Ancient Runes was hard.
She decided to attempt the chant again. "Uruz uruz uruz.. u u u u u u u u u.. u u u u u u r r r r r r.. u u u u u u u u u.." LOOKIT. Glowing runes! That had to mean she was doing something right, yeah? She tried lifting the hammer again, and was surprised at how effortless it was. In her excitement, though, she had forgotten to continue chanting the Galdr and the hammer became too difficult to carry again. The thing suddenly dropped to the ground, pulling Alice with it.
Ow. Wasn't nice to pull people around with your heaviness, Mr. Hammer. Alice shot it a mean look. She was so CLOSE. Stupid thing. "Sir, did Thor chant a Galdr while using his hammer, too?" Because.. well.. it was HIS hammer, so he probably didn't. But she wanted to know WHY.

Ooooooh Cool Old Professor Botros was super clever! This was why they had discussed Thor earlier, and his Mjolnir. He looked at his hammer replica and tugged on it. the Professor was right, no movement at all. Maybe one more harder tug. He put both hands on it this time and heaved as hard as he could. " Uuuargh!" What was he doing, he had nothing to prove. He released his grip from the hammer and hurried over to Professor Botros' desk to get a Gandr stick. "Uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u...u u u u u u r r r r r r...u u u u u u u u u" He repeated several times as he picked out his Gandr and repeating it's Galdr, or was it the other way around?
He went back to his desk repeating the Galdr several more times "uruz uruz uruz...u u u u u u u u u...u u u u u u r r r r r r...u u u u u u u u u"

...Merlin's beard.
Penelope thought having a professor without a hard-to-understand accent - sorry Professor Christiansen - would help her understand these rune things better...but not so much when it was replaced with a lot of talking just to explain everything. How was she supposed to take all this in and take notes at the same time? And then there was West who seemed to know what was going on, so Penelope tried to listen to what he said, but she got a bit lost in all that too. So she simply sat quietly the entire time, trying to process all the questions and answers being given.
And now...they were doing something with wands? Merlin's beard, of course they would. But...maybe this was good. Maybe it'd be helpful and something she could use later or something...
She copied the stuff from the board quickly into her notes and was grateful that the instructions seemed easy to follow. Chant stuff, hold the hammer and wand thing in one hand, smash the box, and get whatever was inside. Actually succeeding was another matter...but at least she could try.
So...chanting with the professor first as she got up to retrieve one of those wand things. "Uruz uruz uruz...u u u u u u u u u...u u u u u u r r r r r r...u u u u u u u u u..." She seriously felt like an idiot trying to say this stuff, but it could be worse. It was fairly easy to say, unlike some incantations. But incantations didn't really need to be constantly repeated over and over and over and over. So both had good and bad things about them, apparently. Meh.
Anyway.
"Uruz uruz uruz...u u u u u u u u u...u u u u u u r r r r r r...u u u u u u u u u..." she continued chanting as she snatched up one of the runic wands and headed back to her seat.
Time to try this out.

Bliss stared at the objects in front of her. The runic wand and the hammer. Maybe if she stared at the long enough, they'd lift themselves? But alas, she didn't posses the power of telekinesis. That was a real shame. Well, seen as that clearly wasn't going to work, she may as well getting moving and attempt this chant and lift thing. Bliss gripped the hammer's handle firmly, slipped the runic wand beneath that hand and then wrapped her other hand around the both, so that she gripping both the hammer's handle and the runic wand. Now to begin the chant.
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Bliss chanted, closing her eyes for affect. She said it softly and slightly uncertainly, but it was appartent that that wasn't going to cut it, so she tried again, but louder this time.
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."
Again, nothing. She would have to try again in a moment, for now, she needed a little rest. Her tiny self couldn't get up, all this concentrating was bad for her. It MUST be. The only thing that brightened her mood was remembering that she now understood runes. Not like West did though. That was another thing, Bliss would have to tell him that she understood. Cos he liked runes, he might be proud of her. Maybe?

Minerva listened as he talked about the runes and how West was correct, not that this was a shock or anything, but she just didn't realize he was good at this subject. He was younger then her as well. Minerva decided she needed to do some extra studying for this class. Maybe some library reading time would help.
Then the professor was talking about an activity. They were to pick up a hammer and do a chant. Minerva took down as many notes as she could before looking at the first step of what they are to do. Get the rune wand... Well alright, Minerva got up and relooked at the chant and listened at the Professor said it. Well this was probably the easier part.
"uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u"
Was she saying that right? Minerva hoped she was saying it correctly. Saying it again she made her way to the basket and pulled one of the rune wands out. Taking it back to her hammer she tried the chant again.
"uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u"

Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.
Merlin's long white beard, runes was extremely confusing! Ella looked around at her classmates wondering if any of them were a bit confused like she was. Frown. She wasn't giving up though, she was totally going to do this activity and be THOR-a and hammer that box right in half. Ohhh yeah she was. Mhm!
The blonde first wanted to have a go with the hammer. So what if maybe she wasn't the strongest badger in the bunch, she'd still done quite a bit of whacking with her beater's bat back in the day and she did have muscles...well sort of. Who's to say she couldn't like have some secret super strength she never knew about? Whatttt? It was possible! The fifteen year old grabbed the handle of the hammer with both hands and closed her eyes, ready to tug.
TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
...Nope.That thing was not budging.
With a smallish frown and a shrug, the blonde then headed up to the Professor's desk to get the runic wand thingamabob. It was kind of cool, getting to use a different type of wand during this assignment. Ells was certainly intrigued. She gave the Professor a small smile in acknowledgement before remembering she was meant to be chanting with him as well...Right!
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."
And yes, she was totally fighting the urge to bust a move right now.
Grabbing a wand, the blonde then headed back to her seat. She was SO going to wreak havoc on that locked box.
Belle's hands hurt when she took so many notes on the board. Her hand was cramping and she was making short hand abbreviations to help remember. Then she heard the professor saying we are doing on activity. Belle's eyes widened. She loved doing activities better than hearing the teacher talk.
Belle got up from her seat and went to the front of the desk where the teacher was sitting. She picked a Gandr from the basket and returned to her desk to practice the Galdr a few times without the wand. She had to practice the Galdr.
Belle put it into her notebook
SPOILER!!: Ancient Rune's notes
Galdr:
uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r

Belle repeated that a couple times until she felt confident. It seemed strange and hard to pronounce that is for sure.

Alright, she had the wand thingy, this time the hammer was suppose to do what she wanted it to do...right...? That was how it worked, yes? Just hold the newer, less powerful and therefore less impressive wand and chant those funny word-noises then some magic would happen. The whole thing seemed a bit shady but she was willing to give it a try since the hammer clearly didn't respond well to force.
Putting a firm grip on both the hammer and the fake!wand she tried pulling again while doing that chanting thing.
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."
Did it work?
There was no glowing. Lex made a face at the stubborn hammer that seemed to be mocking her. "I bet you think this is funny, don't you?" But she would be having the last laugh so she decided to try again. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u!" Still nothing.
This frustrated her even more.
"UM, HELLO! I'm chanting over here! The least you can do is BUDGE!!!" Nothing very hard in that really. She tried the hammer again. This wasn't going anywhere. -_____-

This was tedious work, it really was. No pauses and no rests, this time she'd have to really concentrate to it, make sure that she kept repeating the chant and putting pressure in as she lifted the hammer. Then maybe she'd be more successful. She would also have to speak a little louder and more confidently, because at the moment, she sounded like a mouse and that was probably not a good thing. When Bliss decided that she had enough 'rest,' she proceeded to grip both the hammer's handle and the runic wand once again and she began to concentrate.
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." she muttered, before quickly reminding herself that she needed to be louder and have a more powerful voice. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Bliss repeated, louder this time and it felt as if her voice were being magnified inside her mind. Though that description sounded quite weird. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." again, she chanted, watching gleefully as the runes on the wand began to glow. Time for the real work now, Bliss thought and prepared herself.
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." she half-cried, watching the runes glow brighter and using all of her strength, along with the chants help, saw the hammer lift an inch or so above the desk. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." she repeated the chant, as not to let the hammer fall and higher still the hammer was lifted. It was almost above the wooden box now. Almost. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." she said the chant confidently one final time and then stopped, and watched the hammer fall on top on the...desk. It had MISSED the box, by what, a centimeter?
WHOA, that was A LOT of information!! Sophie didnt follow half of what professor Botros had just said and just kept staring at the old man, frowning and blinking. Every now and again she would look at those chicken feet that were on the blackboard and would wonder how in the world people came up with those.
AHA! She knew iiitt!! The things under the cloth were those hammer thingies! She wasn't thaat lost after all! Heh! But... they would be using other wands? Why couldn't they use their own? Sophie loved her wand! She wasnt sure she could perform magic with another one.
So... those... wand things. Each one of them was made for a specific rune? So they... would only perform... one spell? Or... rune thing? Just one each? ....That made no sense! It was much better if they could use their own wands. Maybe they wouldn't work, but they were surelyyy much better than those other sticks over there.
...
Uruz. Hm. At least that was simple. Until the professor went on about what it was and it made everything more complicated! Uuuuhhhhhh...
Sophie shook her head and tried to learn SOMETHING from that class, but that seemed a bit impossible. She understood, though, that they should break the metal box in two halves and that couldn't be done with their own wands. And they also had to say that funny word.
Okay then, she could do that. Hopefully.
OAKEY WAS RUSHING TO THE FRONT! "Waaait!" She rushed behind him and got one of those wands for herself. The girl would ask what the word they had to say was, but the entire class was repeating over and over so she quickly started doing the same, without really knowing what she was saying.
"Uruz. Uruz?" Why were they draggin the word like that, though? .....Oh well. "U u u u u u r r r r r r r r u u u u u u u" Sophie giggled like mad at herself and at her classmates. "U u u u ...."Giggle!"Uruz!"
elephant-astic•wanderlust•stay in the ninedaaays the original Taco Belle•look at the flowers✿
Ella was sitting at her desk and EYEING the hammer like she was about to wrestle it or something. Yup, cause wrestlers CLEARLY eyed their opponents a lot right before they laid down a serious can of kick butt. MHM! Oh and she was also practicing that chant thing because really, if she couldn't get that right she'd never get the heavy hammer of doom up off her desk.
"uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Yup, sounded legit. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."
Then, with both hands as instructed, Ella grabbed both the wand and handle of the hammer. She was pretty sure her death grip was good enough and the fourth year then because to chant again, this time louder than before. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." STARE. Wasn't the wand supposed to be glowing or something? "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Sigh. Still no glowing....maybe if she took it up a notch? "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Oh. Oh. Oh. It was glowing! BEAM! Even a faint glow gave Ella a bit of confidence and she decided to try and lift up the hammer, continuing to chant as he did so.
TUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGG
Nothing. Mehhhhh! The blonde stopped her chanting and Sour-lemon glared at the hammer. Oh yeah, Oakey had totally taught her well.
After Belle chanted the thing over and over again to get the hang of it, she next had to pick up the hammer and the wand with it? Is that too much to ask? Belle was not that great of a multi tasker. Belle then went down to the desk where the professor was. She looked at the box and saw the hammer there. She was next so she took a deep breath and knew she could do it.
Now Belle had the wand with the funny marking in her hand. She took the hammer and held the wand with it. It was quite heavy. She was nervous she was going to break the wand. It look like a toothpick compared to the hammer. She knew Loki would kick Thor's butt if he only had a wand for a weapon.
Then Belle tried to do the incantation with the wand in her hand...
"uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u"
Hmmm it did not work....it was to be expected. Belle did not know what she was really doing. She was observing her classmates doing the same thing. Belle knew this was going to be hard work. Belle needed more confidence in herself and concentration. Yeah...that is what she needed. She also felt silly saying the incantation.

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
Okay, Bliss was ready to give it one last go. If it didn't work this time she'd sit in a corner and cry be quite annoyed. She'd been SO close the last time, at least she knew now that she'd been doing it right, but that she just had to lift the hammer above the center of the metal box, or something like that. Was she ready? YES, SHE WAS. From what she could see from looking around the room, most people were either completely stumped and had no clue, like Bliss had been before or in the know and were up to the same point that Bliss was, which was breaking point. Geddit? GIGGLE.
Rightio then.
Bliss started chanting slowly, watching the runes glow brighter and brighter as she repeated the chant. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."...."uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."...."uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." there, almost there. Bliss repeated it once more as she'd done before. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." and.............SMASH! She brought the hammer slamming down upon and box and................
IT OPENED.
It was actually smashed and....WOW! "Oh wow, I did it...I DID IT!" Bliss cheered to no one in particular, maybe Professor Botros. Surely he'd notice how absolutely clueless she'd been in the beginning compared to now. Hopefully he would be proud of her. He was a very good teacher, obviously. He MUST be if he'd managed to get Bliss to understand Ancient Runes after two long year studying it. BRAVO, PROFESSOR! BRAVO! Oh and...what was this, Bliss wondered as something from inside the box caught her eye. It was...a necklace of some sort and it looked VERY cool. Was it for her? A prize? YAAAAAY! Bliss felt suddenly giddy and she knew it must be from all that excitement. She put the necklace on and beamed at everyone in the classroom. That's right: EVERYONE.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
It if weren't for the fact that the hammer wasn't particularly friendly when it came to feet she might have kicked the bloody thing again. She shot it a glare instead. "You know, bad things happen to hammers like you. How hard is it to simply cooperate?" No answer? Even ruuuder! She would try this again. Perhaps the hammer was hard of hearing.
"Uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u!"
When nothing happened she chanted a bit louder.
Oooo, lookit, lights!
The runes had begun to glow and she could feel the hammer being a little less difficult. She was so excited that she just kept on chanting, getting a bit louder each time.
EEEEEEEeeeeeppp! It was working!!! Soon she managed to get the hammer up and in fact she was holding it over her head because she was THAT strong. Yup.
"Professor look, I got the hammer to--"
O____O
Merlin!
Lex instinctively let go of the hammer when the weight suddenly increased again...well actually when her strength suddenly decreased. Meh, whichever. Her eyes widened at seeing that it had landed on the box she was supposed to be aiming for.
Blink. Blink.
Unbelievable. It only dented it. Seriously????

It was an understatement ot say that Botros was as excited as any seventy something man would feel at the moment. His smile stretched to his sparkling eyes as the students came to pick a gandr, everyone chanting the sacred galdr of Uruz. He had fuzzy feelings all over. All they needed was a group hug and their gandrs would break down the room's walls if used properly. Ethan's wife wouldn't approve though...

His fantasy daydreaming was cut off by one of the jocks captains, a bony girl shooting looks at her hammer ever since she started. Botros appreciated the fiery nature in females. Oh and she was quite funny, too. The professor chuckled at her question, highly amused that she was comparing themselves - mere mortal humans - to the almight Norse god Thor. So adorable... and offensive. "I would say no. Thor did not need the rune of Uruz to get his power. You'd find him wearing tattoos of Uruz all over his body if he was a human seeking the strength of this rune." Ekh, very disturbing mental image.
Botros moved a bit, still insisting on standing until everyone finished with their hammer workout. "Thor was one of the gods, he had his powers and special skills by nature, and from his father's teachings." He was the son of Odin, afterall. "But when mere humans, like ourselves, want to experience the power and strength Uruz could offer, we're in need of chanting the galdr very clearly, and very attentively." Pause. "You're doing very well so far, though. Keep going." He could go on talking about Thor and his hammer forever, but the chanting of other students made him stop...

.. aaand his hearing aid screeched for a second, causing him to flinch and lean backward on his desk before quickly turning his head toward the real screecher. The impatient Gryffindor. Sigh. "Excuse me!" He fumbled with his cane for a bit before moving toward the younger girl. "There is no need to shout, miss--" Uhh.. "--Gryffindor. You need to be calm, hold the gandr with the hammer's handle tightly and chant." Her wand should glow pretty fast considering how energetic she was, Botros guessed.

Hmmm, right then. So now what? BEAM.
At least this wasn't really shouting. Abraham smiled widely at the little girl cheering about and wearing the pendant necklace around her neck. He started to retreat to his desk again as he talked, "Well done, dear. I will explain more about the wooden box and the necklace once everyone else is done." He reached his station and patted the spot next to him, "Meanwhile you can either help someone else or join me here." Just watching the other students being cute and acting like little mini-Thors.

Ab raised his gaze to the same now-all-too-familiar voice and saw the Gryffindor kid raising the hammer over her head and talking to him?!!? Why was she talking instead of chanting? "Ohnodon--" Oh well, the hammer fell down pointlessly. He smiled at her, "Try again, you did well. Don't talk, though. Just keep on chanting." It was a great chant anyways.
Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right.
Returning to his desk Oakey laid his eyes on the metal box and Hammer! "Time to break you in two." Oakey said mocking the inanimate object. He took his Gandr stick and started chanting the Galdr, "uruz uruz uruz...u u u...u u u u u u...u u u u u u r r r r r r...u u u u u u u u u" He looked down at the the stick in his hand and began to see the faint glow from the Uruz rune etched into it. Satisfied he continued his chant. Taking both of his hands how one still holding his Gandr stick in it he grasped his Hammer and proceeded to lift it!
"uruz uruz uruz...u u u u u u u u u...u u u u u u r r r r r r...u u u u u u u u" He didn't stop his chanting, and the Hammer lifted from the ground.
WHOA! this Hammer wasn't so bad now. He held the hammer above his head and pulled it back ready to smash the Metal Box in two, when something crossed his mind! What if there were toy snakes in the box rigged to jump at you when you smashed it! This thought made his concentration falter and the Gandr stick lost it's glow! The Hammer became extremely heavy again and before it could take him down with it Oakey dropped the hammer from his grasp. The Super Heavy Hammer hit his desk behind him!
Oakey turned around in pure shock as he heard the loud crash and the sound of wood snapping. MERLIN'S SWEATY ARMPITS! He just totaled the school desk, and underneath the hammer was his school bag! "No, nonononononono!" Oakey yelped as he dropped to his knee's and attempted to pull his things out from under the hammer! "My Books! MY COMICS!" All of his things smashed under a fake Mjolnir! Somebody call the Healer!

This hammer was just plain stubborn as far as Ella was concerned. Here she was, chanting like a champ, and the thing refused to budge! It wasn't like her wand wasn't glowing either, that thing was lighting up like a Christmas tree. Grrr. She was SO going to get it up off the desk this time. Mhm, she was!
Holding the wand and hammer in her hands again, the blonde closed her eyes and concentrated. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." She started off, building up a good rhythm. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Okay, she was doing good so far. She could totally lift the hammer this time. Just a bit louder. "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Come on you runic wand, glow already! "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Oh! Oh, it was glowing! Like...it was REALLY glowing a lot! This was really exciting news, yeah? BOUNCE!Chant! "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.."
As Ella continued her chanting, the blonde very slowly began to lift the hammer. O__________O OHMYGOSH it was working! MEEEEEEEEEEEEEP! The fifteen year old was SO excited about this that she squeaked, "I did it!" Bad move, badger.
The hammer came CRASHING down on her desk with a THUD and the blonde jumped a bit, looking around her sheepishly. No one had seen that, right?
...
Next time she was going to remember to keep chanting until she'd split the box in two.
Post 4: CRACK!! If anyone needs help & wants to RP with Alyssa, VM me xD

CCCRRAAAASSSHHH!! CCCRRAAACK!!
The impact of the hammer hitting the metal box could be felt all the way up the hammer to the handle in Alyssa's hands. Her palms actually shook from the vibrations.
Alyssa released her hold on the handle and placed the runic wand on her desk. She then knelt down to examine the box. She could see that the hammer had thoroughly cracked open the top of the box but she couldn't see what was inside because....the hammer was lying right on top of the box!!
Alyssa shook her head. She now had to lift the hammer up again...from the box this time...and place it to the side so that she could see what was inside the box.
Shaking her hands and clenching and unclenching her fingers to help relax them, Alyssa picked up the runic wand again, held it in both her hands and then slipped the handle of the hammer in between both her clenched palms. She started chanting the galdr for the rune Uruz again.
"uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u"
...and then she repeated the chant again, before taking another breath and then repeating the galdr again, each time raising her voice as she gained momentum.
"URUZ URUZ URUZ
U U U U U U U U U
U U U U U U R R R R R R
U U U U U U U U U"
...and as she took another breath to repeat the galdr again, she could see the runic wand start to glow brighter and brighter as she began chanting again.
"URUZ URUZ URUZ
U U U U U U U U U
U U U U U U R R R R R R
U U U U U U U U U"
As the wand's glow grew brighter, Alyssa bent her knees again and as she started on the galdr again, she lifted up the hammer from the metal box
"URUZ URUZ URUZ
U U U U U U U U U
U U U U U U R R R R R R
U U U U U U U U U"
....and placed it back onto the ground.
Breathing heavily, Alyssa placed her hands on her knees and bent forward to catch her breath. Then she knelt down next to the box and examined it again. The metal box was partially dented on the side from the impact of the hammer hitting it on top and of course the side the hammer had landed was totally cracked.
Prying the metal pieces apart, Alyssa peered inside and saw a small wooden box. She reached in, picked up the wooden box and opened it. Inside lay a small pendant inside.
Alyssa slowly pulled it out by its string and admired it. "It's absolutely beautiful." she said to herself.
She raised her hand."Professor do we get to keep this?" Alyssa asked as she dangled the pendant from her fingers.
Then she looked around at her fellow classmates, wondering whether anyone needed help. They only needed to ask.

Lex looked over at the Professor. She couldn't tell whether she was more frustrated or well she didn't know! The hammer was being difficult and all he could say was that she needed to be calm??? And did he call her Miss Gryffindor? As flattering as that name was, it wasn't hers and in fact it belonged to every other Gryffindor in the school. "It's Cambridge actually; Alexa Cambridge." BEAM. Oh...but would he remember it? She didn't want to tell him if he'd only forget. That defeated the purpose.

NOOOOOOW he tells her.
Sure, wait 'til the eager kid has the hammer over her head, trying to get your attention to mention that this stuff would only work when she chanted. That's what he was implying right? Sigh. At least he was smiling. That meant he wasn't annoyed by her failure. Hehe, he even said she did well!
Lex was newly inspired. She grabbed hold of both the wand and the hammer once more and began chanting again. "Uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u!" This time she'd keep the chant going. The box was already dented. One more swing should have been enough.
"Uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u!"
Once the hammer was back in the air again she got set to give the box the hardest pounding of it's possibly short life. With the chant still going she brought down the hammer with everything she had in her and was quite pleased to see the box crumble and break.
Heh.
"I told you bad things happened to boxes like you." GRIN. She kept the chant going long enough to put the hammer down then impatiently cleared away the broken pieces of the box to reveal a necklace. "Oooooooooo!!!" And Bliss had gotten her's done too! Only thing is, Bliss did it first so Lex just beamed over at the clearly happy girl.
Not wanting to waste much more time she threw her hair out of the way then put on the prettiful thing--AND YES PROFESSOR she thought prettiful was a word too. Care to correct? She didn't think so.
"Professor can I join you up there too??" Normally she'd offer to help but that hammer wasn't exactly light and she had a feeling she'd only hurt someone if she volunteered her help.

Belle then decided to try again. Belle needed to feel more confident and have more power. Belle took her wand and then held it with the hammer. Belle chanted quietly under her breath....
"uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u"
"uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u"
Belle got the hang of it. Then she took the wand and hammer and she said the chant. The wand was glowing a little brighter.
"uruz uruz uruz
u u u u u u u u u
u u u u u u r r r r r r
u u u u u u u u u"
Belle then saw the hammer being lifted. "Oh my god i am doing it!" Belle gasped. She was concentrating and was doing it. She lifted the hammer and got it to the ground. Now the next task will be to crash the metal box. That should be fun....Belle was not sure she was ready for it.

"The Nauthiz merkstave is the third one," he corrected quickly, not wanting to interrupt the boy's stream of thoughts. But once he was done talking, Botros clapped for him.
"We have one more thing to discuss before we do a small activity and then wrap this lesson up." Some were already growing bored and huffing. Botros felt sorry for them.
Walking to his desk, he lifted his magical wand up in the air for everyone to see. "This is a magical wand. And like someone already mentioned, runes offer magic or enhance magic without wands." He smirked and continued, "But that's not entirely true, because instead of the traditional runestones, we're going to use runic wands in order to use runes this term." He paused, lowering his wand and waiting for the imaginary impressed 'ooohh's to die down.
No? Nothing? Well, okay.
"A runic wand is called a gandr." The professor tapped the top of the two baskets he took out from his desk a while ago and fished out a long wooden stick with a flat side. "They look closely like our magical wands, but with carvings etched all over them." He lifted the runic wand in the air, "However they're not as powerful, varied, or effective as magical wands. They're not nearly as easy to reign either." Nothing matched a magical wand. Not even a gandr. "It's important to add that one Gandr is crafted for one sole rune. We're not going to go through the making of a Gandr, but you all must know it's a very delicate and advanced level of Runology. Thirty years into this fascinating field of study and with great difficulty I can barely make a successful Gandr." He was dead serious.
"Because all runes are more powerful united and in some way they strengthen and complete each other, it's always better to carve all runes on the Gandr regardless of which rune it's made for. The wandmaker then adds a carefully calculated number of the desired rune to mark this Gandr to its rune." He lowered the runic wand into the basket and stepped away from it.
"When you hold a certain runic wand and start chanting the Galdr appropriated to the rune it's marked to, the symbols on your runic wand will start to give a visible golden glow. Depending on how bright this glow is, you'll know whether your chanting is working or not – whether you are connected with this rune or not yet." Botros went to the blackboard and erased the history and origins of the word 'rune'. They must've written that down. He wrote then, 'Uruz' in the middle and scribbled something beneath it before turning around and facing the kids again.
"Uruz is our rune for today. It's the rune of life force, physical health, and courage." They didn't have to write this down, it's all in the textbook. "While Thurisaz is the main rune associated with Thor, some scholars also mention Uruz, with its energy that governs raw primal power, survival and endurance, it's almost a perfect fit for the Norse god of Thunder."
With a wave of his magical wand, the professor removes the cloths off the piles and widened his smile. Beside each desk, now, sat a replica of Thor's hammer and a metal box. "With the help of a runic wand, Uruz Galdr and the fake hammer of Thor, I want you all to try and break this metal box in two halves." Not that they could smash it into bits. "You can go ahead and try to lift the hammer now, see how impossible it is. It's nowhere near Thor's Mjöllnir and yet no one can lift it off the floor on their own." Cute little kids.
"After you tested your hammer, you come over here, pick a Gandr from the basket – they're all Uruz wands so don't get too picky, and return to your desk to practice the Galdr a few times without the wand." Botros looked at as many students as possible before he went on, "Then you'll have to grab the wand and the handle of your hammer in both hands, chant the Galdr carefully with great focus in order to be able to lift it and break the metal box into two." Inside they'll find a wooden box with something for each one of them.
Oh right, there was a kid sitting on his desk. Ab turned toward Richard and stared at him for a long moment, "You can go back to your hammer, mister Turner." He approached the boy closer, "I hope you know by now that I don't tolerate intimate gestures between my young students." In front of younger students! Botros moved aside to let the Slytherin go back to his desk if he didn't have anything else to say.
"As you all come and pick your runic wands, I want you to chant with me the Uruz galdr chant." he cleared his throat and started expecting them to chant along, "uruz uruz uruz... u u u u u u u u u... u u u u u u r r r r r r... u u u u u u u u u.." Over and over again, without breaking a sweat. It was easy!
...
"If anyone needs help or has a question, feel free to raise your hand and I'll come over." Sooner or later, depends on what's left of his energy. He could feel his knees getting sorer already.
ooc: - OKAY, activity time! In order to get full credit, you need to make 4 posts:
* 1 post where your character walk up to the basket and take a runic wand while they chant the Galdr with the professor.
* 2 posts where they try to lift the hammer and crash the box. (they should grab the runic wand with both hands WITH the hammer's handle, chant the galdr, the runes on the wand should glow stronger as they chant harder and louder and that's when they can lift the hammer. Once they stop chanting, the hammer falls to the floor again.)
* 1 post where they succeed in cracking the metal box and open the wooden box inside to find a small pendant in the shape of Thor's hammer.
- Each post needs to be at least one paragraph long (1 paragraph = 5 sentences).
- Please title your post with the number of posts you're at (e.g. post #1, post #2...etc)
- You have about 24 hours to complete this activity.
- Feel free to help each other out, but ALL metal boxes should be broken. You cannot share your box with someone else.
- I'll try to be around as much as possible if your charrie needs help.
- Have fun!
"Oh yeah. Yeah. Third one merkstave!" He sort of drew it again in the air. Yeah. He'd got a bit carried away and didn't remember the little tip about the N crossbar. West nodded eagerly. He'd known but it had come out wrong in his words. And wooo 5 points?! He looked at his Captain and beamed yeah!
He listened to all the rest in a blur and immediately got VERY EXCITED. Well it wasn't blowing things up but it was CLOSE. BREAKING THINGS.
And West thought galdr's were fun so he immeeeediately chanted along for Uruz. JUST WAIT TIL HE WROTE TO HIS DAD ABOUT USING A GANDR IN CLASS!
He got up and still chanting continuously and eagerly, went and got a gandr, QUICKLY ON ACCOUNT OF THE EXCITEMENT. New favourite class? YES HE THOUGHT SO.
OKAY. West stopped chanting as he reached his seat again and put the gandr down so he could examine that hammer. HMMMM. Surely he didn't need the rune wand to do it?

The lioness wrapped her hands around the Gandr again, clutching the hammer's handle as well. She could do this. It was just a hammer, and it was no match for the amazing Alice Fischer, nope! "Uruz uruz uruz.. u u u u u u u u u.. u u u u u u r r r r r r.. u u u u u u u u u.." C'MON. Glooooooow, hammer, glow. "Uruz uruz uruz.. u u u u u u u u u.. u u u u u u r r r r r r.. u u u u u u u u u.." Shouldn't it have been glowing by now?
"URUZ URUZ URUZ.. U U U U U U U U U.. U U U U U U R R R R R R.. U U U U U U U U U.." This was pointless and utterly hopeless and— more glowing! YES. And she was just about to lift it when.. Professor Botros started talking. He had awful timing. As her concentration broke, Alice watched the hammer's shining runes fade. Sigh.

So adorable... and offensive. "I would say no. Thor did not need the rune of Uruz to get his power. You'd find him wearing tattoos of Uruz all over his body if he was a human seeking the strength of this rune." Ekh, very disturbing mental image.

"D'you mean that if I wore tattoos of Uruz all over MY body, I'd be as strong as like Thor, and have the strength of the rune, too?" 'Cause it would be worth it. She would be practically invincible during Quidditch, yep. And her teeth would be deathly. And if she had a Gryffindor team full of Thors, could anyone imagine that? .. She could see herself.. mmhmm, she was holding a Quidditch Cup.. people were chanting her name..
Alice shook her head, clearing it of her fantasies, and turned back to that piece of runic junk. She had WORK to do.

Sophie followed Oakey back to their desk and decided to watch him first, since she wasn't too sure how that thing worked.
OHWOW IT WAS WORKING!! The thingie Oakey was holding was glowiiing! SO PRETTY! That actually seemed a lot harder than casting a regular spell. It seemed like it needed a lot more concentration and... he had to keep repeating the thing over and over. That sounded really weird, especially because the whole class was doing the same thing at the same time.
That was MADNESS!
Sophie turned her attention to her own hammer and box things while Oakey was busy being awesome and getting it right. So... she had to get it right too, yes? Yes, please.
Uruz. U u u u u u u u u r r r r r r r r r u u u u u u u... How could she focus on such crazy thing with all of the other students going mental and being so looouuuddd like that? That was already difficult enough without all that repetitive nooise! Gaaaahhhh!!
"Uruz... uruz uruz..." What was she doooiiing???
....More importantly... what had Oakey DONE???
"Try and lift it again, Oakey!" Instead of being so dramatiiiiic! She was the one who should be being dramatic there, because she was FAILING and couldn't do it right. That was sad.
And maybe she would be able to learn by forgetting about class and just staring at his adorable face watching him.
