Hecate was smiling while setting up the class... it was eerie. It wasn't a smirk... it was a real smile. She had an empty cauldron in the front of the class. And on the tables, there were little home made petit fours, made by the potions mistress that said "Eat Me."
Maybe it was a little Wonderland reminiscent, but it there didn't make you grow or shrink. She opened the door and waited for her students.
ooc: This class will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Antarctica! for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me at the WWoHP, and to Ameh for makin it into a pretty graphic!

It seemed like forever, but it was really only about ten minutes, and the potion finally changed to a deep red color. Oo, Gryffindor colors.
Kourt immediately gathered two vials, and then grabbed a ladle. Once she had filled the two vials, she approached the professor and handed it to her. “Here you are, Professor Lafay.”
As soon as she given up the vial, she returned to her seat and cleaned the area, including her cauldron. Success. Or so it seemed. She would have to try the solution in her vial and hope really hard that it had been brewed successfully.
And quickly! She could feel a stretching over her skin and a painful prick here and there. More boils? She hated to look!

Of course, Stella thought as it became clearer and clearer that Professor Lafay truly enjoyed torturing them. First making them brew potions to make people hate them (even if that was only temporary and had worked out in the end), and now boils. At least she hadn't seen Matt in class, because she wasn't sure she wanted him to see her covered in disgusting boils, but then she was going to have faith that she'd manage this potion as well as the last two. Even if the professor hadn't exactly demonstrated this time around. Plus, everyone else in the room was in the same position as she was, brewing to save themselves from permanent disfigurement.
Already feeling a faint tingle across her skin, that she hoped was just fear and not the potion-laced cake already starting to work, she quickly noted down the ingredients and procedure in her journal before standing up to gather her supplies. She'd just try not to think about her skin crawling. And, returning to her seat, she arranged the ingredients on her workstation before applying herself to scouring her cauldron. "Scourgify," she cast a few times, making sure her cauldron, measuring equipment, mortar and pestle were all spotless. Now it was time to start. First, she needed to fill her cauldron with water, seeing as it was on the ingredients list even if that wasn't part of the posted procedure, so she cast a quick "Aguamenti" before turning to the snake fangs. Placing six into her now clean mortar, she returned to her cauldron to light a low flame under the water so it could start heating.
Now crushing, and continuing to try and ignore the vague sense of wrongness on her skin. Crush, crush, crush, she kept chanting in her head, simply as a distraction from the rest of what was going on, until the fangs were a fine powder. As instructed, which made her feel better. Maybe she'd manage to get through this, if she was able to get this far. Of course, she had a feeling the crawly feeling was only going to get worse, but she wasn't backing down. Not now. Instead, she just added four measures of the fang powder into her cauldron, and turned the heat up slightly. She'd get this potion brewed if it took all day, but hopefully it wouldn't. Something told her the boils wouldn't hold off that long.

She left the potion to brew for 75 minutes before returning, 5 minutes left to go. She had pulled out a potions book and read it in the corridor, to get away from the potion making. It was just getting a bit warm in there, and she was getting a bit scared it might not work. She just wanted to be alone to let her anxiety jiggle away. So there she was, 75 minutes later, getting the next step ready. She had got four horned slugs ready to put into her cauldron, and when it was exactly 80 minutes, she added the horned slugs.

Cure-boil potion? Janice would probably need that.
She took all the ingredients she needed; snake fangs (she flinched at the thought of this), horned slugs (they somehow look cute), porcupine quills (she wondered how much did it hurt taking quills from the porcupines), flobberworm mucus (she felt like throwing up), and the dried nettles (At last, she thought, a normal thing you would find.)
“Scourgify!” she said, cleaning her cauldron. She looked at the instructions and started working.
She took 6 snake fangs and put it inside the mortar. She put the pestle in her right hand, getting ready for the worst. What she had been thinking about crushing snake fangs is that venom will leak from it, contaminating the mortar or even corrode it until it can’t be used anymore. Wild imagination, eh?
She dug the pestle into the mortar, and 2 things surprised her. First, the fangs weren’t as tough as she thought it would be. Second, no venom are leaking out from it. She shrugged and continued crushing the fangs.

Minerva took the flobberworm mucus and added to the cauldron. She looked in, nope not pink yet so she added more flobberworm mucus. It seemed like she had to add a lot of flobberworm mucus, but maybe it was just because it was slimy and gross that Minerva thought it was taking a long time. Finally the potion looked pink. She smiled and started heating the cauldron once again until the potion turned orange.
Only Lafay could sound excited about the prospect of pus-filled boils covering your skin being a good thing. Not that Gideon was vain but it certainly wasn't a pleasant thought of the future condition of his skin in his own mind. When the directions appeared on the board, the Gryffindor made sure to jot them all down for reference to follow as he brewed.
Once they were all down and he had double checked he had them to the letter, Gideon got up from his work area to gather his ingrediants. "Scourgify," he cast in his mortar and pestle before adding the snake fangs within and he was about to start crushing them when he caught sight of Selina beside him just moments before she grabbed hold of his shirt and pulled. The fourth year willing followed and listened her as he was released.
"All ye had to do was ask," Gideon replied looking to her as she crossed her arms. "We can brew it together as Professor Lafay said we could. Why don't ye start crushing the fangs while I set up the cauldron," he suggested figuring to guide her as best he could not used to directing people. "Scourgify," he cast on her cauldron before aiming his wand within the cauldron this time. "Aquamenti," he added filling it up to a point with water.
When Gideon instructed her on what to do she nodded. She could do that. It seemed simple enough. Besides there was no way she was going to be able to do this on her own. In fact, she was not even sure she was going to be able to do it with the help of Gideon. People typically underestimated how ruddy she was at potions. She was so terrible it was almost a talent. Then again, Lafay probably was not a fan of Selina's special brand of talent. Blowing up parts of the dungeons was not a good thing.
And then she looked up at him and said, "I could ask, but what would be the fun in that?"

Then she counted out six fangs and placed them in the mortar. She picked up the small smashing stick that she was sure had a name but she never bothered to learn it and began to crush it. Slowly of course being as precise as possible. The last thing she wanted to do was mess something up that was not even part of the actual brewing. Maybe she could do all of the dry ingredients... that could work.
After a few minutes of doing that she handed the crushed fangs to Gideon with expectant eyes. She was not pouring anything into that cauldron...

Of course Selina would think of pulling him manuelly over to her workstation would be fun...and maybe it was for her and slightly amusing for him, he just hoped Lafay didn't give any trouble for. Not like they had disturbed others and he was in fact planning on keeping the other half of the partnership from messing anything up. All and all it was a win-win for everyone.
Gideon watched as Selina went to work handling the fangs, crushing them with the pestle. Although he was ready to make sure if anything wasn't done like it was needed, she seemed to be handling herself fine at the moment...the fangs a fine powder just as directed. At her wordless handing over of the mortar, he took it as his cue to do the next step...add the crushed fangs.
"Okay...adding 4 measures of crushed fangs," he mused quietly so only they could hear but wanting to keep his partner apprised of what was going on. Taking measurement of the powder, he added the first into the cauldron before adding the other three in succession and then adjusting his notes.

"Now to heat the cauldron..." he said looking to Selina as he spoke as if to make sure she knew that was her task. It was certainly less complicated then the spellwork required within the next step which he would willingly take off her hands.
While the 80 minutes were passing, Ira decided to get all her required ingredients prepped up. She looked in the list in her journal:

3 - Add 4 measures of the crushed fangs to your cauldron.
4 - Heat the mixture.

Now what could she do for the next 80 minutes? There wasn't much prep that she had to do for this potion.
Then remembering about it all of a sudden, she touched her face on her cheeks. Was it just her feeling or were boils really just starting to appear? I'll be damned...I'm hating this... Thinking so, Ira screwed her face in disgust.
Now she really hated Professor Lafay! First the hate potion and now the boils? That was gross and bad!
11 - Wave your wand in a rightwards "x" over the cauldron, starting top-left, bottom-right, bottom-left to top-right, casting "Percurus"
12 - Heat it again until turns green.
Salima picked up her wand from the desk and waved her wand, once again, in a form of a cross only this time "rightwards" not "Backwards".
Starting from top-left, bottom-right, bottom-left to top-right, Salima waved her wand over her cauldron whilst muttering "Percurus". She then pointed her wand under her cauldron and said "Incendio".

Hmm so they had to do the "Percurus" thing again. Tori flicked her wand into her hand and moved it in a rightwards x - noting that this was a different type of x - from top left to bottom right, to bottom left to top right. She of course also said, "Percurus," as she went.
With that done, Tori again turned the heat on and waited for the potion to turn greeeeeeen. Oooh.

Selina knew that she was being babied for her own good and most likely for the safety of everyone in the room, but she did not like the fact that he was questioning her spell work. Had she not proved ample amounts of times that she could handle advanced spell work. Now of course if they were going to debate her potion brewing skills she would admit that even the babies guide to potion making was hard literature for her, but spell work she could do. But she was not going to argue with him. He seemed to know what he was doing and she did not want to be a boil face... even though the boils had not surfaced yet. She was dreading the moment when they did. So she would listen to him.

*Getting all that he needed Matty soon got to work on the snake fangs.*
Once Marie had the list of ingredients wrote down she looked it over trying to figure out what they were going to make today. She didn't have to think long though as everyone started to shout out what it was.
O__O
BOILS!
They were going to end up covered in boils?!
This did NOT please Marie... at all. She should have known better than to eat that stupid little cake. It was too late to do anything about it now though. She would just have to get this potion made as soon as she could. Hopefully she would be lucky and only get one or two boils.
CRAP!
Seeing Matty put the cake to his mouth she tried to slap it out of his hand but it was too late. He was already swallowing it. He was never going to forgive her for this one. She could just hear it now... 'I didn't even want to come to this class...'
What? Did she hear that right? Did Matty just say he was... enjoying this class? Now she was all kinds of confused.
Writing down the directions she could NOT see how someone could be enjoying this class... and it was her favorite class. "You can't be serious about enjoying this... can you?" She asked looking over at Matty as she grabbed her cauldron and gave it a good scourgify. She then grabbed her mortar and pestle and cleaned them as well. She wasn't taking any chances here, she was making sure everything was clean. This was one potion she wanted to make sure she got right.
Once she was done with the cleaning she went and gathered all the ingredients she would need. Really... Flobberwork Mucus? Why did they have to put such disgusting things in a potion they had to drink?
Knowing she had to put all the ingredients in the potion she refrained from complaining... out loud. Instead she took them all back to her table and lined them up in the order she would be using them. She then grabbed the 6 snake fangs, dropped them in her mortar and proceeded to crush them with her pestle like her life depended on it.
Well the well-being of her skin depended on it anyway.

Tori sighed a bit as she started adding drops of the yucky greenish mucus to her cauldron. She was excited to see it turn pink and thankfully it only took about six drops of mucus for it to happen. Yay!
Tori heaved her cauldron onto the heatsource again and re-lit the fire under her cauldron with, "Incendio!" Time for it to turn orange now. Woo. Lots of color changes here.

Now that all the snake fangs had been crushed and their powder lay in the bottom of his mortar and pestle beside him, the Gryffindor was ready to let the brewing begin. He pointed his wand at the pewter cauldren and spoke the incantation to give him a bit fo a water base. "Aguamenti." The tip of his wand spouted out the water filling a small bit of the cauldren.
Next he added the four measures of powdered snake fangs, prepared by none other than himself and then was ready to heat the thing. Pointing his wand at the base he cast the incendio charm and watched the flame as it warmed the bottom of the cauldren.

Marie laughed a little at Matty's comment about being organized. "Having Lafay as your head of house means you have to take her class serious unless you want to face her wrath later." That was something Marie didn't want to do.
As she finished crushing her snake fangs she couldn't help but notice where Matty kept looking. This brought a HUGE smile to her face. Leaning over she whispered in his ear...
Once the fangs were crushed enough she set the pestle off to the side then released her wand. Pointing it in her cauldron she filled it with water using a non-verbal Aguamenti. Seeing that Matty didn't have any water in his cauldron she pointed her wand into it and filled it for him before Lafay noticed he didn't have water in it. She then added the 4 measures of crushed snake fangs to her cauldron.
Looking back over at Matty she couldn't help but grin. Seems his mind was on other things here keeping him from concentrating on the potion. "Next we light the fire under our cauldrons." Pointing her wand under her cauldron she cast a non-verbal Incendio. "Then we wave our wands in a backwards "x" over our cauldrons." Starting at top-right she moved her wand to the bottom-left, then the bottom-right to top-left as she cast "Percurus." She then looked over at Matty. "Now you do that. Once you're done then we can leave while the mixture brews for 80 minutes."
Hmm, what kind of fun could they have in that amount of time? Updating her journal while she waited for him to finish this last step she thought about what they could do when they left the room.
"For your final, you will brew this potion on your own, simply following the directions. Pair up if you need to, but it isn't necessary. Take a vial of it to cure yourselves, and give me a vial to grade you on. Start Now."

As the cauldren began to heat up, Auggie looked down at the written instructions he had copied from the board. He was only about a fourth of the way finished with the steps and he had better hurry up if he planned to finish before the end of the lesson. He did not want to be stuck behind with Lafay alone while he finished--not to mention the boils that would soon erupt all over his skin.
As if called on by his words, August felt a slight burning on his left forearm and when he looked down a bright red, shiney boil had appeared. Gross. He looked at it for a minute and then hurried back to his potion-brewing. Backwards 'x' it was then. Pulling his wand out he made the backwards x with a movement from the top-left, bottom-right, bottom-left to top-right and ended by saying the incantation, "Percurus."
After he cast the spell, he looked down at his notes fixing the title and stuff, for the potion had to brew for 80 minutes. Hopefully he wouldn't get more boils in that amount of time.

*Matty smirked and let her show him what to do. Truth was he knew what to do but he would play along letting Marie show him what to do. Nodding Matty did as she said but it was a little hard after what she had whispered in his ear. Turning a little red he tried to give her a Are you trying to get me killed look but it came out as a odd smile/frown.
Heat the mixture.
Wave your wand in a backwards "x" over the cauldron, starting top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right to top-left, casting "Percurus"
Leave to brew and return in 80 minutes.
Alright got that done. Now to wait. Sitting back he looked at Marie with a warm smile.*
"Thank you for your help... but I better do the rest. Last thing I want is an angry professor... here of all places."

Destiny positively BEAMED.
It was almost as if Lafay had made this final just for her. It was like the woman KNEW she was an expert at brewing up the boil cure potion, having had them things on her about four times in her years at Hogwarts, and since it was her last Potions final EVER, she decided to go easy on her. Yeah, Destiny knew Lafay was going to miss her the most. But, she wasn't going to think about that. He skin was already starting to itch, and she needed to start brewing.
Pulling her parchment closer to herself, she quickly wrote down the ingredients and the directions. She didn't really need to write them down, but she had been keeping notes for so long, it just seemed like the write right thing to do. After finishing, she stood from her seat and went to collect all the things she was going to need. She might have lingered at the cupboard for a little longer, but when she couldn't find anymore of those little cakes, she made her way back to her seat. Setting the ingredients out in front of her, she pulled out her wand, and after a quick 'Scourgify', she placed her cauldron onto the burner before filling it with water.
Directions.
1. Add 6 Snake Fangs to the mortar.
2. Crush into a fine powder using the pestle.
3. Add 4 measures of the crushed fangs to your cauldron.
4. Heat the mixture.
5. Wave your wand in a backwards "x" over the cauldron, starting top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right to top-left, casting "Percurus"
6. Leave to brew and return in 80 minutes.
7. Add 4 horned slugs to your cauldron.
8. Take the cauldron off the fire before adding the next ingredient.
9. Add 2 Porcupine Quills to your cauldron.
10. Stir 5 times, clockwise.
11. Wave your wand in a rightwards "x" over the cauldron, starting top-left, bottom-right, bottom-left to top-right, casting "Percurus"
12. Heat it again until turns green.
13. Add Flobberworm Mucus until the potion turns pink.
14. Heat again until it turns orange.
15. Mix in the dried nettles until it turns green.
16. Heat again until it turns red.

With the fire now heating the mixture she'd created, Sierra turned back to the instructions to read what she needed to do next. Percurus? Hmm... That was a spell she wasn't exactly familiar with. She flicked her wand into her hand and practiced the movement a few times. A backwards X was a little more difficult than she thought it to be. Nevertheless, she quickly picked up the exact movements necessary and felt confident using it on her potion.
She pointed her wand over the cauldron the moved it from top-right to bottom-left and then from bottom-right to top-left. "Percurus!" she said. There. That should do the trick. She peered back at the instructions and noted that she was now meant to wait eighty minutes before doing anything else. Mmkay then. She sat back in her chair and kept a careful eye on her brew as she waited.

After adding the four horned slugs to her cauldron, she carefully removed her cauldron from the fire. It was a bit heavy for her, but she managed alone. She had noticed the boils coming in now, and she was a bit scared to look in the mirror. She looked at her instructions and read that she must add 2 porcupine quills to the cauldron. She found them in her little pile of ingredients and got them ready to put them in the cauldron. She wasn't sure how to put them in, whether she needed to crush them or what... but there was no other ingredients so she put them in as they were.

Kennedy wrote down the instructions with a shaky hand. He did NOT want boils all over his face. He was worried about them being painful and possibly busting in front of the class, but what mostly worried him was that his girlfriend was here as well. He didn't want her to see him all...yucky.
The HORROR.
He hung his head after writing everything down on his notebook. He already ate the cake so it was too late to go back now, AND it was a final. A FINAL! So he HAD to do it.
Oh, well.
He set his pencil down and took out his wand. He didn't want a repeat from last time. This time he would clean his cauldron first before Professor Lafay came by and vanished whatever he had in there. He pointed his wand at the cauldron and said, "Scourgify!" There. Clean.
He looked down at his notes and checked to see what the first thing was. Kennedy stood up and went to collect the six snake fangs and placed the on the mortar. Then, took the pestle and began crushing them.
Crush. Crush. Crush.
After he noticed that there were no big pieces of snake fangs in the mortar he stooped and examined that he had crushed it into fine powder, which he did. Rolling up his long sleeves to his elbows, Kennedy prepared himself for the next steps.
