Hecate was smiling while setting up the class... it was eerie. It wasn't a smirk... it was a real smile. She had an empty cauldron in the front of the class. And on the tables, there were little home made petit fours, made by the potions mistress that said "Eat Me."
Maybe it was a little Wonderland reminiscent, but it there didn't make you grow or shrink. She opened the door and waited for her students.
ooc: This class will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Antarctica! for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me at the WWoHP, and to Ameh for makin it into a pretty graphic!
'Finally' said Salima feeling relived 'last step'
Salima (for the final time) pointed her wand under her cauldron and said 'Incendio' and watched as her potion turned red.
'WHOOOOOOPIEEEEEEEEEE' Salima yelled to clarify that she was finished she pot her potion into vials then walked over to Professor Lafay's desk with a note to show that it was hers.

Violet was working quickly now with grim determination--she had to finish this before she broke out in boils too badly to be able to brew. Her potion had turned a lovely Slytherin green and now she was ready to add Flobberwork Mucus, a disgusting ingredient if ever there was one, to the cauldron. She poured in the disgusting stuff in a thin trickle until she saw her potion turn pink, her least favourite colour. She turned up the heat again until the brew was a bright orange colour, then looked to see what the last few steps were. Hurry!

After waiting for what felt like forever, Sierra was finally ready to move on to the next step. Eighty minutes?! Dear Merlin! She was glad every potion didn't require that much time. Some, she knew, required way more than that, though. She didn't even want to think about those right now, though.
Sierra reached for one of the horned slugs and then dropped it into the mixture. Her eyes darted back and forth between the mixture and the horned slugs as she added in the other three, all one at a time. As she took the cauldron off the fire, she was suddenly struck with a burning sensation all across her arms. She looked down to see that not one, not two, but numerous nasty boils were starting to pop up all over her body. She winced a little but then remembered that as soon as she was done with the potion, she'd be cured of the boils. With that thought in mind, she quickly turned to the instructions to see what she needed to do next.

Violet was certain of it now--this was not her imagination. She'd looked briefly down and saw that about a dozen or so angry red boils had sprouted out over her hands and forearms, and she could feel that others were popping out further up her arms and on her face. Good thing the potion was almost finished; she just hoped that the discomfort from the boils didn't distract her into making a mistake; she wasn't at all sure Professor Lafay would help cure them if they failed, especially a Slytherin who lost their House points by botching a simple potion.
She hovered over the orange potion again and began to mix in her dried nettles, glad that she had remembered to put on her protective gloves earlier in the brewing process. She had made that mistake with nettles a few times as a child--Miss Howard had gone ahead and let her do it, too, to teach her to remember her gloves. Well, Violet guessed that had worked because she almost always did remember now. As she added the nettles, she saw with relief that the potion had turned green (yay!) again. Now she only had to heat it up again until it turned the unfortunate colour of red and she would be done (she hoped...)

Louisa grabbed her wand tightly again and started waving it in an X motion; top-left toward bottom-right, bottom-left toward top-right speaking, "Percurus," Loud enough to be heard. After that, the Ravenclaw pointed her wand at the bottom of the cauldron and muttered, "Incendio," because she'd put out the flame earlier.
Watching the cauldron silently as it was heated again, she stole few glances toward her metal egg that was lying in her bag. It was a pity that she couldn't just leave it upstairs in her dorm. That Viola cat was pretty vicious when it came to Dalouisa.
A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.
Victoria let out a long breath at the length of this potion. It is sure easy, but indeed very long. It won't be too difficult to make this potion. It will, though, take quite a long time.
She glanced at the first step of the process. Hmm...where did her mortar go...Victoria glanced around her work area, trying to find her tool. At last, she found her mortar in the middle of her empty cauldron when she wanted to stack it there to save space. Victoria took it out carefully and laid it in front of her. She then selected 6 snake fangs from the bag and added them into the mortar. Taking her pestle from the table, she crushed the snake fangs with great force, but carefully so the fragments would not fall out. Victoria kept crushing until it turned into fine, powdering texture.

Violet had been carefully watching her cauldron, adjusting the heat now and then to keep it hot but not let it boil over. She also tried not to scratch the now itchy red boils that continued to erupt on her arms and now, she was pretty certain, her legs. Finally she saw that the potion had turned red--thank all the elements, it seemed to have turned out right!
Hastily she damped the flame under her cauldron and let it cool for a few minutes, then gingerly picked up the hot pot with her dragonhide gloves and very, very carefully poured out two phials of her potion, one after the other. She planned to save the first one for herself, letting it cool for a bit longer while she poured out the beaker she planned to turn in to Professor LaFay. Resisting the urge to pour the first phial right down her throat (which was probably also erupting with boils!), she wrote her name, House, and year on a label and pasted it to the second container. She desparately wanted to drink some and see if it would work, but she didn't want to scald her mouth and throat in addition to the boils.
Finally the first phial felt only moderately warm to her touch. She picked it up and tipped it into her waiting mouth, then set it down and waited expectantly. Please let it work--she really didn't think she could stand these boils much longer! She took a cork and put it in her second bottle to take her mind off it, then looked down at her hands--weren't they...yes, there were definitely fewer boils there than there had been a minute ago. She pulled up one of her robe sleeves and looked at her arms. Before her very eyes, the boils were slowly disappearing, one by one. She reached up and felt her face--it was starting to get smooth again. Her potion had worked!
Happily, she walked up to the front of the class and turned her sample in to Professor Lafay. Not only would she very soon be boil-free, she would pass her Potions Final (was there ever any doubt?!) She only wished she felt that confident about her Flying Final. Thinking about what she had left to do before the end of the term, she returned to her workstation and began to clean her area. She cast Scourgify again and again on all her tools and the table-top until everthing was spic and span again. Then she packed up her supplies and books into her bag and headed out of the classroom.
"Goodbye, Professor Lafay, thank you for the lesson." (Yeah, thanks a lot for giving us boils!--but Violet knew better by now than to complain out loud to her Head of House.) "I've enjoyed the class very much this term." And with that, Violet was headed out the door. She had planned to go outside after Potions and enjoy some of the spring weather, but now she decided to head back to the dorms first to have a wash and make sure she was boil-free before venturing out into the Hogwarts grounds.
Relax? Did he just ask her to relax? Did he not know her? Half the time if she was not being fiery and doing things that were most likely not the smartest idea, she was fretting. A relaxed Selina was an odd sight. It was as odd as a quiet Selina, which was something that she was sure almost everyone she knew wished was not as rare as it was. She wondered how many people thought it would be better if she just lost her voice box, probably most. Alas, she could speak and so she was going to speak.
Her eyes got a little dark when he told her to calm down, but she kept herself in check and nodded, "Sorry, I'm just not used to doing this right. It's all kind of new to me." That was true. Never once had she even finished a spell correctly... it always ended badly.

She looked at him worriedly. She was going to mess this step up. It was too vague. It said until it turned green, but did that mean she was had to dump them all in at once or would she have to mix whilst she did the adding. Did she add first and then mix. It was all a bit too much to handle. She looked at Gideon and said, "I-I can't. I'm just going to mess it all up and be a boil face. Please, can you just do this step? I'll heat it up afterwords, but I can't... too many things could go wrong."

Once the potion turned green, Louisa started adding Flobberworm Mucus. Disgusting drop after disgusting drop. She stared down at the cauldron, with one hand squeezing her nose shut, and watched the color changing; it was quite green but as the Flobberworm Mucus was added, it started to fade into a darker color and then changing into a lighter on. Once the color was completely pink, the Ravenclaw left the potion on the flame, it should turn orange once heated enough... or should be.
One look at the potion, another one at the metal egg hiding down there, one at the potion, the other at Dalouisa, one at the po- Oh! It was orange! Louisa took the cauldron away from the flame ready for next step.
Kennedy stayed sat in his desk for the eighty minutes. He didn't want to take his eyes from it... AND he didn't want to be walking through the halls with boils. He felt his face a bit swollen, but didn't dare touch it. That would just gross him out even more. So, all the while he was doodling in his notebook.
He checked his watched every now and then until time was up. Woot!
It was time to add four horned slugs... Ew. He carefully picked them up and dumped them inside the cauldron gently so that he wouldn't make a splash and mess up his potion. Dang, the pressure was on now. He could feel a tingly sensation on his skin around his nose. He hated itches near his nose, it made him sneeze. The bad part of this was that he couldn't scratch it because he had the dragonhide gloves on. Uuuugh!

Post 8: Heating and Adding Flobberworm Mucus - Potion Final

Harvey looked at the next tasks on the list which was to heat the potions and add Flobberworm Mucus. Eww!! So he put the cauldron back onto the fire to heat the potion until it was supposed to turn green. So he waited until the potion turned green.
waited.....waited....waited...waited
He then looked at his potion and saw that it was green now. So he got his Flobberworm and squeezed the flobberworm and dropped some mucus into his potion
Drip....Drip....Drip.....Drip
He stopped and he saw that his potion had now changed to a different color, it was now purple. But he saw that it was supposed to be pink. So he added some more drops
Drip...Drip....Drip...Drip
He then saw that his potion had now turned pink so he was satisfied.

Louisa quickly grabbed the dried nettles and poured them over the potion then started mixing them with her stirrer. Mix mix mix mix.. until it's green. AGAIN. Louisa scoffed at this, were they going to keep going back and forth with colors? Oh! It's green! She paused, returned the cauldron over the flame and waited for it to be heated properly.
It said that it should be turned red. Hmmm. Louisa kept her eyes on the potion as it stirred in place from being heated plenty of times. The green color surely was not staying as greeny.
A moment, not long, later the potion was dark red. Louisa took the flame underneath the metal pot out and stared at her potion for a few. Hmm. It did look... healy enough. Probably.
Shrugging one shoulder the girl took two vials, grabbed a scoop spoon and poured some potion in each one of the vials. Laying them carefully against the table's edge, she scourgified the cauldron, the mortar and the other equipments she'd used. She pocketed one of the vials into her pocket for when the boils appeared on her skin thanks to her PROFESSOR, and slung the bag onto her shoulder.
One hand held the vial that was to go to Lafay while the other hand grabbed her wand, pointing it at the table, she muttered, "Scourgify," and off she went toward the mistress' desk. "Here's my vial, ma'am." The parchment tag that Louisa cut out in one of the previous steps laid on the vial now for the teacher to see.

Gideon watched and listened to Selina, hoping she would take his advice and calm down even a little. Not that it was likely if he knew anything about her and she confirmed as she spoke in response to his words. "Its alright," he said, "You've told me lots of times how you've felt. I'm just trying in my weird ways to help you...even a little bit." She might not like potions, she certainly didn't enjoy it like he did and Jonathan even, but he would do what he could to help her survive through the classes and years that it was a required class.
"Okay...okay, relax I can do it," he assured her quietly seeing the worried look in her eyes and not wanting her to freak out since she had been doing so well up until that point. And that wasn't just him in his somewhat jaded opinion... it was the truth. Taking up the dried nettles, he carefully added them into the potion, mixing them into the liquid. It took some time and effort but it eventually turned green even though there were no clues as to what exact color green they needed. But it certainly looked right even to him.

Selina let out a sigh of relief when he took up the harder part of the last two steps. She knew that she was doing better than usual, but that was because he was virtually spoon feeding her the answers to everything they were doing. For that she was so thankful. If she were to do it alone she knew she would have gotten a T for sure. Not that she minded so much what she got in this class, but her mother would have a fit if she didn't do well in Potions again this year. Alas, it was not her fault. She was just ruddy at potions.
So once he was done she drew her wand and said, "Incendio." She kept her wand pointed at the cauldron until the potion turned red. It was a slight waiting game until it was done, but once she was clear she virtually dropped her wand. No need to point it there anymore.
She felt slightly foolish and picked up her wand. She brushed a strand of red hair out of her face and said, "Its, um, done."

Holding her wand over her cauldron, she started from the top-left and moved her wand to the bottom-right. Then she started from bottom-left and moved to the top-right, completing the "x" and casting "Percurus!" Next…

Eighty minutes seemed like forever, when one was trying not to pay attention to the itchiness of one's own skin, or the people around who already were getting boils. Stella just hoped she hadn't broken out in any yet, but she knew that they were coming. At least she could just hope that she'd brew her potion correctly, at which point the boils would be short-lived. Possibly even gone before she left the classroom, if she was lucky. She knew there would be a lot of luck involved, but then she still thought she was lucky insofar as Matt didn't have to see her looking all disgusting and boil-covered, even if she had a feeling he'd have known it wasn't her fault. Just his head of house's odd idea of amusement, or something.
Glancing at the time again, she sighed in relief as her wait was up. Discreetly glancing at her arms, she noticed they were pinker than normal, but so far not boil-covered. Maybe she was still doing well enough to finish before things got too disgusting. The qualifier was needed, though, as she turn ed her attention to her notes. Of course there had to be creepy, slimy things in this potion. But she merely picked up the horned slugs with a gloved hand and slipped them in to her potion, without much acknowledgement. Instead, she was back to her singing in her head. Distractions. They were definitely going to keep her sane right now.

Okay, time to put the cauldron back on the fire. Which was much harder to do when you had painful boils on your hands. Sky picked up her cauldron (again by the handles) and placed it on her fire. She looked at the board to see how long they were supposed to heat it for. Until it turns green. So she stood and watched it. One Mississippi, Two Mississippi, Three Mississippi……
Sky looked at her potion to see… that it was green! Yay! Next step…

the mixture had been heated enough for it to turn green. Now she had to add flobberworm mucus. Yuck! That name itself sounded so...so disgusting! When she looked at this ingredient, it seemed even more disgusting! But she had to add it. At least it was better than having large, puss filled boils!
So she added flobberworm mucus to her mixture. Now the mixture was supposed to turn pink. Why wasn't it...Oh yeah, it was turning pink slowly.
Meanwhile Ira again updated her journal:

He wanted to scratch his chin. As simple as that sounded he couldn't do it. His hands were covered in gloves and he didn't want to risk contaminating his potion or skin for that matter. Kennedy kept trying to convince himself that it was just his paranoia that was making him feel itchy, but then the other half of his brain was telling him that there was a boil starting to grow on his chin.
He needed happy thoughts. Yeah, like the pie he was going to eat when he went to lunch or the pumpkin juice he was going to drink...or...or....
The boy shook his head to snap back to the present. If he kept on thinking about food he would start drooling at that wouldn't help at all. He looked down at his notes and read the next step. He carefully took hold of the cauldron's handle and lifted it off the fire and set it carefully on the table. Then, he took the two porcupine quills and added them to his cauldron.
Gaaah! His chin was still itching.
