Hecate was smiling while setting up the class... it was eerie. It wasn't a smirk... it was a real smile. She had an empty cauldron in the front of the class. And on the tables, there were little home made petit fours, made by the potions mistress that said "Eat Me."
Maybe it was a little Wonderland reminiscent, but it there didn't make you grow or shrink. She opened the door and waited for her students.
ooc: This class will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Antarctica! for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me at the WWoHP, and to Ameh for makin it into a pretty graphic!

80 minutes is such a long LONG time if you have nothing else to do but stare at the heated cauldron with the crush snake fangs in it. Jonathan was sitting on his chair and starred at the cauldron with his hand on his cheek. This is going to be one of those memorable days. Last year they had Polyjuice potion and this year they're doing the Boil cure potion. Lafay really knows how to make their finals awkward...
Sigh.
He then looked at his pocket watch a few more minutes and then his 80 minutes of waiting will be over. SEE?! He should have gone with his first instincts to not eat that cake. EVEN if it's chocolate for that matter. Jonathan should really start to resist anything chocolate. ALTHOUGH, what would have happened if he didn't eat it. He saw Evelyn didn't it at first but then she eventually did after Lafay somehow 'convinced' her to eat it.
Lafay was, after all, having a good day and Jonathan just thought that the cake went along with the 'having a good day' package. Oh well~~~.

Next step up was to...stir 5 times in a clockwise direction. Clockwise was to the right; counter-clockwise was to the opposite direction, to the left. So therefore Kourtney would stir to the right.
Picking up her ladle (and making sure it was clean by casting Scourgify), she dipped it into the solution and stirred it to the right.
One...Two...Three...Four....Five!
With that, she lifted the spoon from the cauldron and set it down.

Minerva looked for the next step.
Quote:
11. Wave your wand in a rightwards "x" over the cauldron, starting top-left, bottom-right, bottom-left to top-right, casting "Percurus"
12. Heat it again until turns green.
She took her wand back out and started making a rightward x over the cauldron. She pointed at the top left to the bottom right and then bottom left to the top right as she did this Minerva said "Percurus" Once this was finished Minerva started heating her cauldron again and watched as it turned green.

Again still waiting for his 80 minutes to be over Jonathan looked at his pocket watch. A little more patience and then it'll all be over and then before he knows it he'll be doing the 7th step of the procedure. He tapped his fingers while waiting for the remaining minutes. Looking over to his notes the next step would be to put the horned slugs.
So that he wouldn't waste much time after the 80 minutes will be over, Jonathan already readied the 4 horned slugs and put them near the cauldron, but not too near, so that he could just easily put them all and not have to look for them.
Finally the 80 minutes is now over and Jonathan stood up from his seat because all he did was sit and stare. Moving onto the next procedure he took 4 horned slugs that was on his table and carefully put them into the cauldron as the directions has said.
Oh! This is nice. No stirring, no heating much further. Jonathan then tired stretching his fingers. He sat down for 80 minutes and he can't even believe it himself. He usually never do that especially when studying.
Boils? Was she serious? his had to be some kind of joke. She baited them all with delicious goodness and now was punishing them. She knew a happy Lafay was too good to be true. Now she was going to be a boil face and the only way she could even remedy that aliment was by something she brewed. Selina was rubbish at Potions.. there was no way she could even begin to do this by herself. If she did she would end up hurting small children and her face would forever be boiled.
But she had to get to work so she looked at the first step. It did not seem too terrible. All she had to do was add 6 snake fangs to the mortar. She counted out 6 fangs and then, one by one, added them to the mortar. The potion seemed to be at least working somewhat, but something was off. Something was always off when Selina did her potion work.
Her eyes flickered across the room to the Potions Prince- Gideon. He seemed to be very calm in the face of the task. She hated that so much. What part of his brain understood potions because Merlin knew Selina's did not have that talent. It was glorified baking... that was all potions was and yet everyone made such a huge deal out of it. Maybe there was just something wrong with Selina because everyone else seemed to get it.
So she threw down her glove and marched over to Gideon. Without a word she grabbed his shirt and dragged him across the room to where her station was set up. When they were in front of her cauldron she crossed her arms and turned to look at him, "I need help..."

Again with the Percurus spell. Kourtney raised her wand to perform the spell, but stopped before she could begin. She re-read the instructions. Whoa. She nearly had done that wrong. She was about to cast it in a backwards X instead of the rightwards X. Good thing she had caught that!
Her hands were shaking slightly and she gripped her wand tighter, taking several deep breaths to calm herself. If she had done that wrong…who knows what would have happened?
Drawing in another breath, she raised her wand again. Top left, bottom right, bottom left to top right. “Percurus!” She cast.

Jonathan moved his head to where his notes were. Next step was to:

Without further more hesitation, Jonathan took put on his gloves and carefully took the cauldron off the fire and place it onto the side for it to settle. Okay next ingredient to be put are 2 porcupine quills.
Jonathan looked at the ingredients he took and spotted the porcupine quills. He took two of them and then added it into the cauldron. At least he was making a lot of progress with his work right now. Only a few more and then he'll be done with this activity.

Only Lafay could sound excited about the prospect of pus-filled boils covering your skin being a good thing. Not that Gideon was vain but it certainly wasn't a pleasant thought of the future condition of his skin in his own mind. When the directions appeared on the board, the Gryffindor made sure to jot them all down for reference to follow as he brewed.

1. Add 6 Snake Fangs to the mortar.
2. Crush into a fine powder using the pestle.
3. Add 4 measures of the crushed fangs to your cauldron.
4. Heat the mixture.

13. Add Flobberworm Mucus until the potion turns pink.
14. Heat again until it turns orange.
15. Mix in the dried nettles until it turns green.
16. Heat again until it turns red.
Once they were all down and he had double checked he had them to the letter, Gideon got up from his work area to gather his ingrediants. "Scourgify," he cast in his mortar and pestle before adding the snake fangs within and he was about to start crushing them when he caught sight of Selina beside him just moments before she grabbed hold of his shirt and pulled. The fourth year willing followed and listened her as he was released.
"All ye had to do was ask," Gideon replied looking to her as she crossed her arms. "We can brew it together as Professor Lafay said we could. Why don't ye start crushing the fangs while I set up the cauldron," he suggested figuring to guide her as best he could not used to directing people. "Scourgify," he cast on her cauldron before aiming his wand within the cauldron this time. "Aquamenti," he added filling it up to a point with water.

When he returned to his workstation with the ingrediants in hand, the Gryffindor layed them down on the cool table surface and then set them to the side of his clean cauldren. He would need them all eventually but it was best for him to set them aside so that he didn't pick up the wrong one when reaching for whatever he DID need.
First he would need the snake fangs and he took the six of them and placed the firts into his mortor and pestle and crushed it into a fine powder. Continuing to do this for each fang August was left with the amount of powdered snake fang he needed.

MERLIN! While she had distracted herself thinking about creatures she hadn't been paying attention to what he had been doing. Fudgesickles.... Sighing, Kurumi turned her attention back to her parchment and own cauldron before picking up her own wand again. Water was the base for all potions, well, some sort of liquid at least, right? "Aguamenti," she whispered, filling her cauldron. Once the water was in, Kurumi cast Scourgify on her gloves, just to be safe, put them back on, and then added the four measures of powdered snake fangs to her cauldron.
Her skin was becoming more and more itchy by the moment, which was also causing the lioness to panic more and more. Please don't let her break out into boils right now...please...please...please...
While she scratched, Kurumi checked the instructions and saw that the next step was a spell. Merlin why did there have to be a new spell with this potion?! One that she had never used before. Still, it shouldn't be THAT hard considering the beginner level of this potion, right? She hoped so. She picked up her wand again and pointed it to her burner. "Incendio," she whispered, lighting a fire and then adjusting it so that the flame wasn't too strong. She then set her cauldron on top of it and picked up her wand. First...to practice this spell and wand movement.
Top right...to bottom left...then bottom right...to top left...
Kurumi repeated the wand movement several times over her textbook to practice, hoping to Merlin that she didn't screw this spell up on her first attempt. Granted, she was only four steps into the potion, so having to start over really wouldn't be THAT bad. The only problem would be that she would have wasted some ingredients...which could turn Professor Lafay's good mood bad and bring back Dragon Lady.
Feeling more confident with her wand movement now, Kurumi held her wand over her cauldron and repeated the movement. "Percurus," she whispered as a light erupted from her wand and caused the contents of the cauldron to glow momentarily before turning back to looking like it had immediately after adding the crushed snake fangs - a milky grey color.
Now all she could do was wait...80 minutes. Kurumi reached into her bag and pulled out her Arithmancy textbook and a space piece of parchment to begin doing that assignment while she waited. Two birds with one stone, right?

After putting the porcupine quills into the cauldron, Jonathan scratched his cheeks................................ WAIT! Did he just did that?! OH NO! He didn't feel any lumps yet, maybe it's just a reflex. Once in awhile people scratched their cheeks, right? He should calm down but every time he stares at his cauldron and his notes, he would always remember Lafay's word, echoing in his head 'boils by the end of class'.
Now if Jonathan was scared of centaurs, this would be the next thing he'll be scared of. He just needs to calm down and stop fidgeting. Also stop his habit of touching his face every now and then. He'll just get more paranoid if he does.
Okay... next step is to? He looked over to his notes once again to double check.

Okay, now that her equipment was clean and her ingredients ready, on to the potion making.

Now to place the cauldron back onto the fire. She carefully lifted the heavy cauldron back onto the flame. She could feel the heat of the flame along her hands, even through the gloves, as she lowered the cauldron.
Once she was sure it was secure, she removed her gloved hands from the cauldron and watched the solution inside. She would have to heat it until it turned green.
She watched patiently, resisting the urge to turn the heat higher. The solution slowly began to change colors, eventually becoming a shade of green. It almost looked like…ugh, nevermind, she didn’t want to think about that.
Looking up at the board again, Kourt read the next direction. Flobberworm mucus up next. This potion would turn all sorts of crazy colors before it was finished.

Setting down her quill for a moment, Kurumi checked the hour glass just in time to see the remaining bits of sand trickle down into the bottom. Oh, was her time already up? Kurumi rolled up her parchment and put it back in her textbook before setting it back in her bag. Next up..slugs... She frowned a bit as she picked them up. Poor slugs...they had probably been enjoying the spring weather in the gardens when someone had plucked them from a tree or bush. Now...they were about to be used in a potion all for the sake of beauty. It didn't seem fair, but Kurumi didn't want to be covered in boils for the rest of the term either.
One slug...bye bye....two slugs...farewell...three slugs...thank you for your sacrifice...four slugs...I'm sorry...
All slugs now into her caludron, Kurumi picked it up off the burner and set it down on the table, placing a towel underneath it so that it wouldn't singe the table, and then put out the flame. Having an open flame was dangerous after all. After doing so, and before she could check her parchment again, the fourth year suddenly felt...itchy and she rolled up her sleeve to see that her skin was lumpy...and NOT in the manner it had been earlier when she had had goosebumps. She needed to work faster...those 80 minutes had caused the spiked cake's effects to begin...

Kourt carefully selected the vial of flobberworm mucus, lifted it, and tipped it over the cauldron. She poured it slowly, keeping a slow eye on the cauldron. It would turn pink eventually.
Pouring…pouring….and still pouring….
The green shade slowly shifted colors, a plume of pink blooming and spreading.
She lifted the vial immediately. No more, no less.
Setting the vial down, she carefully readjusted the cauldron with her gloved hands, ensuring that the flame was properly heating it.
Several minutes ticked by, while Kourt absently scratched at her arm, trying her best not to think about what was happening to her. The potion would just have to work, otherwise, it would be a failing grade and a trip to the hospital wing.
The potion shifted to an orange color just as suddenly as it had turned pink. Two more steps and she would be finished.

Next on the list the same procedure that he did in number 5. Which is to wave the wand in a backwards X from top to left, bottom to right, bottom to left, to top to right. This was actually the most complicated procedure. Not that it's hard but it has a lot of things to do. WAIT! So it's not the same directions as the one in number 5. It's quite the opposite.
Jonathan took his wand again and positioned it over the cauldron with the wand movement of a backwards X. From top to left, bottom to right, bottom to left, to top to right. And then with the same incantation Jonathan opened his mouth "Percurus" he uttered.
Finally, he's done with that. PHEW! At least now the hard part was already finish. Jonathan's had then again moved onto his face. In case, there were boils already. NOPE. Not yet. He was still anticipating about it and quite frankly, scared. Having boils in the faces are not a pleasant sight to see.
At least he wasn't feeling anything other than his scratching paranoia. He thinks that anytime right now, something would grow out in his face.

Now that the eighty minutes were over, Sky picked herself up off the floor. Before she did anything, she felt of her face. Ugh, the boils were starting to show up! Focus Sky! That's what you're brewing the potion for, to get rid of those things! She pulled her attention back to the potion and started adding the horned slugs.
One sluggy. Two sluggys. Three sluggys. Four. Moving on.

Wearing his gloves back again he took his cauldron and placed it back into it's place. Then with the same incantation he heated his cauldron back again. "Incendio!" he uttered and watch as a small fire lit underneath his cauldron.
Now that he is heating it up again, the next procedure was to make sure to heat it up until the potion turns green. So while the cauldron was heating up, he starred at his cauldron and waited for it until it turns green.
After awhile, the potion started to turn green, which is a good sign since now he knows that what he did is 60% exact already. He was nearing to the end with this brewing so he just felt relieved about that.
Oh right! Since it turned green, now it's time to do the next step which is to add the flobberworm mucus. Jonathan did the procedure as he carefully placed the flobberworm mucus into his cauldron. Ewww. Okay, he'll just have to wait until the potion turns from green to pink.
Jonathan was close enough wanting to smell the potion but NAH! It'll just ruin everything. His father would always tell him that smelling a potion while it is still brewed is probably the worst idea ever. Unless it was suggested that you have to smell it. Still, each potion has a weird smell some of them were even as foul.
He looked over his cauldron and watched it as the green is now finally turning into a pale pink color or was it caramel pink? Whatever..................... it's pink!

Yep, her skin was beginning to bubble an some parts were even puffing out now and turning...yellowish. Kurumi gasped and quickly pulled down the sleeve of her robes so she couldn't see it. Out of sight out of mind, right? At least that is how the expression went.
Gloves still on her hands, Kurumi picked up the porcupine quills and dropped them into her cauldron. It contents fizzled a bit, but nothing too big. Phew, so far so good. She picked up her wand again. "Scourgify," she said, her wand pointed towards her stirrer. Now that it was all clean, Kurumi picked it up and slowly placed it into her cauldron before stirring it five times clockwise.
After cleaning her stirrer and setting it down again, Kurumi picked up her wand once more and drew a proper X in the air - top left to bottom right and then bottom left to top-right - before repeating the same spell from before. "Percurus." The mixture fizzled a bit more and then a small puff of smoke burst from it, smacking her square in the face and causing her to cough.

3 more steps and then he'll be finished with his work. This is really exciting, he'll be finish before he knows it. Has someone else finished the potion already? Jonathan looked around to see if there were students who were already sitting down because they were finally finish with the work? Nope? Yes? Maybe? Jonathan really couldn't tell.
Anyway... He should concentrating with his work right now. Looking through his notes again and reading the next procedure:

After the cauldron turning pink, Jonathan heated up the cauldron again and now he waited until turns into orange. WHOAH! Multicolored potion isn't it. From green it'll change into pink and now it'll change into orange again. W-w-waiiiittt!!!
Did he just saw it turn orange??? Jonathan's grin grew longer this time! He's doing this activity right. He's seriously going to jump right now but he's just resisting it.
Okay, enough with that. Going to the next step is to mix in the dried nettles. Where are his dried nettles.... dried nettles... dri--- OHHH! Jonathan spotted them next to his notes. He took some dried nettles and mixed it into the potion. Now, to wait until it turns green.
Potter Nurse || Hockey obsession <3 | Go Wings! || Geaux Tigers!
Dried nettles was the final step. Kourtney gathered the ingredient and then began to mix it into the potion.
Adding a few more…and mixing it well.
Finally, the potion changed from orange to green. Day-glo green, it seemed.
Finally. Now to heat it once more until it changed to the final red color.
She pushed a piece of stray hair from her forehead and leaned over her cauldron, allowing the flame to heat the solution inside.
C’mon….c’mon…
The young girl was becoming a little impatient. This potion was a long one, and the fact that she would burst into boils at any given moment was making her want to hurry it along even more.
OUCH.
With a small gasp, she pulled back the sleeve of her robe, noting immediately that a large boil had appeared on her forearm. Merlin!!!

Kurumi was really beginning to feel sick, but she figured that this was mostly due to her nerves and the worry that came from knowing it was only a matter of time before boils began showing up all over her body. She needed to stop, she was going to make herself faint.
Picking up her wand once more, she pointed it to her burner and gave it a flick. "Incendio," she commanded, and it was lit once more. She then lifted her cauldron and felt her hands itchy a bit, so she removed her gloves when her eyes widened and she nearly knocked over her cauldron. Right there in the middle of the back of her hand was a large red circle of tough looking skin. She set the cauldron down and sort of poked at it with her other hand. Why had she taken her gloves off? Now she was freaking out even more. In a few more moments, the center of the red dot inflated more and became a sickly yellowish white color.
"I think...I'm going to be sick," she gagged, quickly throwing her gloved back on. She waited for the contents of her cauldron to become the same color that she assumed her face was...green.

He's nearly there... nearly done with the potion. Now that he has added the dried nettles all he has to do is to wait for it to turn back to green this time. Jonathan's hand was back at his face again. He's getting uncomfortable and uncomfortable by the minute right now. He knows that something will be happening in less than 5 minutes or so. It was horrifying him.
He peaked at his cauldron again only to find out that the color was now green. He didn't notice the change in the potion, he should have kept an eye at it. But oh well.
Finally, the last--- yes, the last step-- is:

He tapped his fingers as he waited for the cauldron to turn red. Turn red. Turn red. Turn red. He kept glancing at his cauldron. Turn red. Turn red. Turn-- Jonathan smiled again.
RED!!!!
The potion was now done right? Oh yeah! Best.Day.Ever! Now for Lafay to check his work.
