William had sat quietly, watching as Lawson got more frustrated every second. He was glad Ari wasn't in the room she'd be screaming more than he was, sharing his emotions such as her gift proclaimed. Glancing around the room he winced sympathetically as Lawson finally shouted - loudly. Not making it look like he'd been effected, even though he had been he hesitatingly put up his hand.
"Sir, would you like a chocolate frog? You help me with my hand, I'd like to help you." He asked in a kind voice. He had enough of them in his bag.
Ooooh... chocklit.
Inching over to William, Jake kind nudge-nudge-nudged him. "I'll hhhave one," he smiled, nodding encouragingnly as he continued to tap-tap-tap the saw on the wood.
He wanted chocklit, okay?

He held up a hand before anyone of them could speak, quite frankly he did not want to know.
“Most of you are driving me INSANE.” He looked to Miranda first, “One of you wants to see if a hammer works just as well as a beaters bat.” He then turned to look at Destiny, “And another who wants to see if she can cut her friend in half.” Lawson then turned to look at Jake, “Someone who seems to think he is King Arthur and looks as though he is about to slay some dragon.” His eyes then moved to Marie, “And let’s not forget the person who just can’t seem to sit in one place for longer than five minutes.”
He took another deep breath and counted to ten once again. It wasn’t helping at all but he could pretend.
"Professor Lawson, do you want a chocolate frog?" Simon asked suddenly, he knew that people calm down after having a chocolate frog, he was scared when the Professor shouted at them. "Professor how are we driving you insane?" Simon asked as he continued to saw whilest looking at the Professor, he was a Professional at sawing, he had done it loads of times. "Professor can I please do this free hand?" He said as he turned to looked at how his sawing was coming along. "How many pieces do you want it cutting into?"
William felt a nudge-nudge-nudge and looked over to see Jake. "Hah nice try Jake. I do have some nice non-sugary snacks though." he replied grinning a bit.

At once, Jake lost interest. He pulled a face and made a promise to himself to steal Williams candy a little later.

Flinging his hand up suddenly, Jake grinned at Lawson whilst his other hand dropped the saw which clattered sideways on the splintered wood. "SIIIIIR! Ddddo we get to uuuse electric d-d-drills?"
And THEN Jake heard Simon... and he glaaaaaaaared at him.

Moving behind his desk once again he picked up the mitre box. "Okay firstly place the mitre box onto your table then place your piece of wood inside the mitre box. Using your non dominant hand place it on the wood and apply pressure to keep the wood in place. Once you have done that, take your saw and slip it into one of the grooves. The teeth of the blade is what cuts the wood so that side should be on the bottom." He looked at Evelyn as he said this. "Like this.
"Now use a push/pull action while applying downward pressure to cut into your wood. Do you think you can all handle that?"
"Yes sir." Nymphy said, starting his task. He did not want to be mixed up in this terrible business with the fighting, but more than that, he wanted to stand out as NOT fighting. So he set to his task focused extra hard to make it work in one try.
Thankfully, it did. As he pulled for the last time, the back piece of wood that he was not holding fell to the ground. "Look sir. I've done it!!!! Andon the first go!" he said, very excited.

Marie did NOT like that smirk on Mean Lawson's face. That look only meant one thing... he was up to no good.

He wanted her to sit next to Miranda? That girl seemed just as crazy as Destiny when it came to these tool things. There was NO way she was sitting over there.
Nope, not gonna do it. She would rather take her chances sitting next to her crazy friend.
"Um thanks but no thanks Professor. I would rather stay here and take my chances with Destiny." At least she knew she would be able to bribe Destiny with chocolate if she started to act all wonky again.

Maybe it was Lawson she had to worry about getting all wonky. The man seemed to have totally lost his mind here.
What's wrong with us? she thought. He's the one giving the student's dangerous tools to play with and he wonders what is wrong with them when they don't know how to use them. The question should be what's wrong with him. What else did he expect a quittitch beater to use a hammer for, or a crazy girl to use a saw for, not to mention the nutty boy with the saw. And then he wonders why Marie doesn't want to sit in the same place for more than five minutes. She doesn't want to become a victim of one of these crazed students and their not safe for children tools.
Marie watched as Lawson walked around the room barking at the students. Maybe he forgot to take his medication today. Maybe he needed someone to get it from the healer for him. "Professor, do you need me to see if the healer can bring you a calming draught? You seem a little tense for some reason today." Yes, she would help him out if needed. Then she would be able to get out of class and not have to worry about getting in trouble for leaving.
She quickly put a piece of wood in the mighty box and started cutting away at it. Yep, best to look busy so Professor Meanie doesn't blow a gasket again.
Xylon had no idea HOW to use these muggle tools. But that wasn't the problem. The problem was that he didn't want to use them. He eyed the nail for the longest time before finally picking up the hammer and tapping it thrice. Hey that was easy!!
Half a second later he realized his nail was completely bent out of shape and he was tapping his piece of wood.
Oh.
He tried again and this time, managed to get a nail in. Shaking his head, Xylon decided that was all he could do for now. He didn't need any more practice because in his opinion, he was NEVER going to use these nails. Why bother when you could simply use a sticking charm? Seriously muggles had such bothersome little ways.
And now he had to use the saw thingy.
Great.
Xylon wondered if he could sneak out of this class. The door wasn't that far away. But Professor Lawson was paying everyone too much attention. Trying not to sigh, Xylon picked up the saw and.......... did nothing with it. Then he tried to place it, side-down, in the mitre box. Of course the saw didn't fit in that way so he just wedged it in, half inside the mitre box and half outside. Pokey thingy.
HOW did this work again?

He turned back to Marie and there was a hint of a smirk on his face. “There is vacant table next to Miranda. Why don’t you go and sit over there.”

If she thought sitting next to Destiny was bad wait until she sits beside “The Destroyer.’
"But what, Miranda?”
He raised an eyebrow at her, just daring the girl to whine to him about the loss of points. Didn’t she realise that she could have injured herself or someone else in the class with her craziness.
And here he had thought this class was a good idea.

Lawson closed his eyes briefly and then opened them as he walked over to Sarah’s worktable. “Put your weight onto the mitre box to hold it down and then pull the saw up, handle first so that it comes up on an angle.”
Oh bloody hell!!
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO” he yelled across the room and then quickly hurried over to the Hufflepuff’s table. “That’s not right. Put the saw down.”

Nope the counting did not work at all and the man gripped his hair with his hands and decided to chuck a spaz.

Gold could not remember seeing Professor Lawson THIS unhappy, before. Cela was right, the man needed hugs! Gold, however, had no hugs or chocolate frogs or Calming Draughts to offer. She knew there was a way she could help out too, though.
"Xylon." She tapped the boy sitting next to her, on the shoulder. "You're doing it all wrong. Place the saw in the mitre box, like this." She lifted one of the two pieces of wood she now had on her desk and, resting the mitre box there, showed him what he was supposed to do. "Now do what Professor Lawson just told us to."
She eyed him. She didn't like Xylon, not much, but at least they could get along for up to ten minutes, now. THAT is what you call a miracle. Gold totally believed in those, now.
Oh! A QUESTION!
Just about to open her mouth to answer, Miranda held her breath, seeing Mr Lawson looking like was about to...throw a hissy fit.
And now he was looking at her again. Insane? Pffft, was that directed at HER? Sigh. Obviously... Hehe, beaters bat! Snort. That was funny. And kind of true - now that Professor Lawson mentioned it, she might even try it out.
So, he thought she was insane?
She'd give him insane...
Lawson eyed Miranda with a raised eyebrow for a moment longer before moving away.
He would have to keep a close eye on that one, he had the feeling she wasn't done causing trouble.

Raising his head, Marcus looked at the class and with resignation and picked up the tool he had been very reluctant to put in these kids hands. "This is a power drill it is the easiest way to screw a screw into a piece of wood. Now these drills run on batteries so there will be no problems with cords or electricity."
He paused for a moment to take a deep breath, "Okay you will each find a power drill underneath your work bench and I have taken the liberty of labeling the parts for you. Now before you get your drill out I will tell you all once again that this is a tool not to mess around with. I will give you all few moments to check out the components of the drill before I go through the steps on how to use it. Off you go."

Though why Lawson seemed so unhappy about it, Jake would probably never find out. Hehe.
Ducking down, Jake pulled out the drill and looked at it closely before doing the complimentary robot moves while pressing the on button which made him sound like an ACTUAL robot. Heck yes. And THEN he held it to the side of his face and pretended to be someone in one of those horror movies, evil face an all.
That one felt best.
"Ssssir, do dddentists use these d-d-drills too?" the boy asked, and then looked around mischeviously. "Hey Wwwilliam, hold ssstill," he joked, giving the boy a winked as he ZZZZZZZZZZZ'ed the drill again.
Bahahaha, this was so fun.

Simon looked at Professor Mean Lawson, he really wanted to do it free hand, why did he have to use something he hadn't used for ages, that was so unfair, he thought that the Professor was losing it, but he didn't dare say anything about it.
Simon did what he was told even though he didn't want too, he then heard the Professor talk about an Electric Drill.
"Oh My Giddy Aunt." Simon said suddenly, as he looked down under his bench and got his Electrical drill out and looked at it, this was going to be awesome.
"Professor don't Doctors sometimes use these?" He asked, "I'm sure I've seen some doctors use this." He turned to Jake and glared back at him, he had seen him glaring at him earlier but hadn't bothered looking until now.

"Okay professor." Cela answered doubtfully. Clearly he needed hugs. Clearly. It was a shame he didn't even know it.
She listened carefully and then her hand went up in the air. "Professor? How does it work? The drill thing I mean?" It had electronic components right? Even if it ran on batteries it shouldn't work here because of the magic. And this was Hogwarts after all. A memory tugged at her. "Are you using the same charms that Professor Dumont used to so we could see electronic stuff working?" That would also explain his reluctance in letting them use their wands in here.

But okay, the man was moving away now...thats good.
Dropping her hands, Miranda sighed and looked down at her beaten up wood and nails. Heh. They looked allright.
She looked up at whatever the Professor was going to show them now, and she could see he wasn't really that certain about this next part. Hm... But when he held the drill up, the start of a loud guffaw slipped out from her mouth. Oooooh! She clasped a hand over her mouth, recovering, and tried to look as casual as possible. What was the Professor thinking!? A DRILL??
Oh... this could've been SO much worse though. Imagine if it had been a nail gun. Snort.
She reached under her work desk and patted the area until she found the drill. Bringing to the top of the desk, the inspections work started with a rased eyebrow. Reversing switch.... Whatever that did. Keyless chuck?? What? Torque adjustment collar. Okay, now the 'collar' part she got. Speed selector switch! Ah, see, for the speed. She knew that. Screwdriver bit. Hmmm. Trigger...switch. Oh, my. A leetle pull of that and it would be buzzing.

Wha? Was this Professor insane? He was actually handing a very powerful sort of weapon in children's hands..Alex sighed shaking from her thoughts and finding her power driller..thingy. She eyed the weapon noticing the different names, hopefully..the lowest setting would be okay, Alex thought putting it down waiting for the Professor to tell them what was next.

Noir looked underneath her work bench and she found the drill thing..she gasp "Merlin bread..!!This thing is so heavy.."

Selena thought it was safe to say she did not trust herself with this power drill thingy. "Professor, would it be alright if I didn't use it...?" she asked. Selena was clumsy at times and didn't want to drop it on someone or something like that. At least she knew her limits... however some people seemed quite excited. Mina stood back slightly and looked under the bench. Gently, she picked up the drill. It was heavier than it looked. Hearing that they would get to use it, kind of worried her. If the saw wasn't dangerous enough, adding a drill, a power drill at that, was not well. But she figured Lawson knew what he was getting into. Setting the drill on table, she looked at all the parts.
Zane got excited when he heard POWER tools. He reached under his desk, grabbed the tool and smiled. He attached the parts together and pulled the trigger, grinning ear to ear when it turned on.
Oh Merlin, Oh Merlin, Oh Merlin. THIS cannot be good. No, no, no, no, no. This room was quite dangerous enough with hand tools, let alone power tools. Especially screws. Those were deadly! Eep! Not good, not good, not good. Ellie began to wonder if she could sit this one out. Like really out. Like back at King's Cross Station out. Her mind began to run through all the different excuses she could use. Gulp.
Raising his head, Marcus looked at the class and with resignation and picked up the tool he had been very reluctant to put in these kids hands. "This is a power drill it is the easiest way to screw a screw into a piece of wood. Now these drills run on batteries so there will be no problems with cords or electricity."
He paused for a moment to take a deep breath, "Okay you will each find a power drill underneath your work bench and I have taken the liberty of labeling the parts for you. Now before you get your drill out I will tell you all once again that this is a tool not to mess around with. I will give you all few moments to check out the components of the drill before I go through the steps on how to use it. Off you go."
Theo raised an eyebrow as he looked from the Professor and then over to the girl he'd had to yell at several times about the hammer. "What is he playing at?" he thought to himself, "has this Professor gone bonkers, that thing looks like a weapon"
Theo ducked his head under his desk to search around for his own "power drill" and was surprised to see one laying there neatly in the open and wondered how he didn't notice it before when he'd dropped a nail under there.
He picked it up and immediately notice how heavy it was in his hands for something so small. Turning it around he saw that the device was shaped a bit like the letter "ell" with a small red button in the middle about where his forefinger would be if he held it in his hand. And sticking out of the end was a small pointy thing that looked like it would hurt if he stuck someone with it. Again he looked back towards the girl in the corner and his lips curled into a mischievous smile.......
"Oh my J.K. Rowling!" Jake grinned and positively bounced on the balls of his feet. AWESOME! DRIIIIIIIIIIILLS!
Though why Lawson seemed so unhappy about it, Jake would probably never find out. Hehe.
Ducking down, Jake pulled out the drill and looked at it closely before doing the complimentary robot moves while pressing the on button which made him sound like an ACTUAL robot. Heck yes. And THEN he held it to the side of his face and pretended to be someone in one of those horror movies, evil face an all.
That one felt best.
"Ssssir, do dddentists use these d-d-drills too?" the boy asked, and then looked around mischeviously. "Hey Wwwilliam, hold ssstill," he joked, giving the boy a winked as he ZZZZZZZZZZZ'ed the drill again.
Bahahaha, this was so fun.

Lawson looked between the two Hufflepuff's and heaved a deep sigh. This was why he didn't want to show them the power drill.
"No doctors and dentists don't use this particular drill okay? They have different types of drills."
His gaze drifted to Jake for a moment, "I am only going to say this once. Behave yourself whilst using the drill."

She listened carefully and then her hand went up in the air. "Professor? How does it work? The drill thing I mean?" It had electronic components right? Lawson was about to move on when Celandine asked another question and he gave the Head Girl a smile. "Of course otherwise none of this equipment would work here. It's only for this classroom though, so even if you were tempted to take something from here it wouldn't work anywhere else in the castle."

Then we have the speed selector switch which I think is self explanatory. You have a choice of slow, medium and fast speeds. And over here is the reversing switch. Flick it forward and it pushes the drill in. Flick it back and it will go backwards, taking the screw back out."
He paused to take a breath before continuing, "This here is the torque adjustment collar. What this does is determines the depth you want to the screw to go in. The higher up the torque you go the deeper the screw will go in." And then he pointed to the last component on the drill. "This is called the keyless chuck. By turning the chuck counter clockwise it will release your drill bit, by turning it clockwise tightens the drill bit, keeping it in place."
Putting the drill down for the moment, Lawson placed a piece of wood onto his desk and then picked up a two inch screw. "Okay so as you can see I have a cross head screw, so I need to use the cross head blade. I now turned the chuck counter clockwise and then place the drill bit into the centre and then tighten the chuck again by turning it clockwise." He held up the drill so that the students could see what he was doing.
"Now that I have my drill bit in place, I need my screw which I have right here. What you need to do now is hold the screw against the piece of wood, pointy end down. Fit your drill bit into the screw and hold it steady and then place your finger on the trigger and the screw will go into the wood. Now because you are all beginners at this I want you all to make that your speed setting is on slow. Make sure your fingers are well out of the way when you get the drill going."
And now was the moment of truth. "You may all try it now."

Evelyn was a little apprehensive about these power drills, up to the point where she almost got and moved away from her seat to get away from it. Especially after what Jake did. Muggles used these things on teeth?! Just confirmed even more that they were crazy.Of course, she didn't hear what Lawson said, she was too busy staring wide eyed at everyone with a power drill in hand.
She did not...feel safe.
However, she didn't let any of her emotions of fear or...well just fear, be expressed on her face. The few moments of staring at everyone passed and she sat there, looking bored and staring at the table in front her instead. The saw and hammer were good enough to stare at, but the sounds of the drills going off was...unblock-able.
And so was the Professor's voice for that matter. What would happen if your fingers were NOT well out of the way when drilling? HMM? Well, it was quite obvious, but it did perk up her mood slightly. With a small smirk on her face, Evelyn lifted her gaze from the table and to the faces of everyone else. Lawson was definitely taking a big risk with this class. She was surprised however, that no one was hurt.

Heck yes. He watched TV.
And the boy demonstrated this perfectly legit fact. Mainly because he was stalling so as not to go near the nails.

Miranda looked back at the Professor, putting on a silly grin but dropping it as soon as he looked away.

Gosh this lesson is going slow. Pffft. FlatcrossHeatBlade. Mhm. Flick forward go back, flick back go forward. No wait, the opposite. Yeah. She got that.
Torque will determine how deep the nail will go. Uh-huh. Hehe, keyless chuck. Twisting it this way and that, it will release or tighten screw. Yush.
Oh. Well, hello.
Miranda intently watched what Professor Lawson was doing, with the screwing in of the screw and the board and...yeah. That didn't look to be difficult either. Just like the nails. She glanced at her battered up piece of wood and the poor defenseless nails.
'...speed setting on slow.' ... really?
Bah, Miranda had no time to loose. Why spend a painful 20 minutes watching a screw going into a piece of wood when you could do it in 5 seconds!? Heh, fine...slowness.
She grabbed the drill and selected the cross head drill, twisted the chuck this way and that to get the drill bit in place, and then took a screw. Hmmm.
Caaaaaaaaaarefulllyyyyyyyyyy, she put the screw tip against the wood, and then caaaaaareeeeefullyyyyyyyyyyy placed the drill bit + drill ontop of the screw. Removing of the hand holding the screw - because she needed it intact...and pressed down hard to make it all stay in place.
And now, this was the momeeeent...
...when she totally didn't pay attention to the speed of the drill, and she pulled the trigger making the drill go all crazy.
The screw went halfway in, but soon the actual drill bit slipped on the little screw-hat-top surface thing. Miranda lost control of the whole situation as the drill drilled its way to the other side of the desk, making Miranda scratch her arm on the screw that was sticking out. Ouch. She dropped the drill, tripped on her own feet and down she went into a fit of giggles on the floor.
Successss!
Well, the scred DID go halfway in. Which was...pretty good in her opinion. Heh.
