Sidney can't help, but giggle at Jake's answers. She is so out of her element in this class. Sidney is happy she brought her goggles, wore comfortable old clothes, and she hopes she's not the first student to end up in the hospital wing. She helped her muggle grandfather one time in his workshop. Sidney never knew her grandfather could use that kind of language while jumping up and down. Gee wiz, give me a break. I didn't mean to smash his finger with the hammer. I honestly was aiming for the nail. "It's a large saw that's used to slice wood into smaller pieces."

Well if he wasn't going to answer her then she was just going to get up and move on her own. Which is what she did, she moved waaaaay over to the other side of the room... faaaaaar away from Destiny.

Yes, it was nice to finally be more than six feet away from her.

Did Mean Lawson say that screwydriver with the cross on it was a Phillips? Hmmm, she would have to ask Carter if his family invented that thing.

Looking at the thing Lawson was holding now Marie raised her hand. "Professor Mean Lawson, that would be a really BIG knife. You know, one you would use to cut really BIG pieces of meat." she said while glaring over at Destiny.

Gold raised a hand. "That's a Rip saw, professor," she said quietly. "It's especially designed to cut the trunk of a standing tree from top to bottom, or chop down wood." She eyed it, for a second. "It has a cut made parallel, to the direction of the wood grain."

"There are other types of saws, too. Crosscut saws and stuff. The one you're showing us is used by hand. There are others that work with electricity, those are more efficient."

Lawson watched as Marie got up and walked to the other side of the room, he waited until she had gotten herself comfortable before pointing a finger at her and then flicking it in Destiny's direction. "I didn't say you could move Marie, so back you go."

He looked back to the rest of the students and nodded his head, "Yes that is correct it is a saw. Used to cut through wood. As mentioned there are different types of saws to cut through different density of material. The most powerful and efficient of course is the power saw. But seeing how we will only be doing small jobs there will be no need for one of those." He turned back to the board once again. "And because I don't trust any of you with one" he muttered under his breath.

"Alright this is the last picture I will show you for now before we start practicing with the tools." And heaven help him when the time comes for that. "So who knows what THIS is?"

Alex glanced around confused. She didn't know this one for once. She wondered who did.

Mina creased her brow slightly as she looked at the object. It was rather strange looking. Raising her hand, she offered a guess. "Is it a guide of some kind?"

*scoff* They wouldn't be using them today!? But they were so shiny and poky looking! He was just showing them all the good tools, and then saying they couldn't use them...that wasn't right!

That should be illegal or something.

Can't throw hammers or hit anything but nails with them, and can't use the saw. Could they use anything?! Looking at the last picture, she sat there for a moment before actually smiling. She knew this one! It was in her muggle book thing! "That is a...meter box?" That's what it was called right? "Something like that...but you use that saw thing, and it helps cut the wood boards at a straight, precise angle."

Gold raised a hand. "That's a mitre box, sir," she said, with certainty. "I know it's used for tile-work. Cutting tiles, at certain angles. It is also used as a guide, for a hand-saw. One can make exact cuts with it."

She should know. She had WORKED with the item.

"The one you have is the most common kind. It's open at the top, and at the ends." She eyed it. "The slots give the saw its direction."

Noir raised her hand "I believe that's a mitre box,sir..a woodworking tool used by muggles to guide a hand saw to make precise mitre cuts in a board.." she said.."I'll definitely give my uncle a big thanks for providing me information with muggle's stuffs" she thought..

Xylon eyed the girl who had just regurgitated straight from the textbook and then raised a hand. "That's a mitre box alright," he said. "Generally used to guide a handsaw when cutting."

Patroclus was surpised that he actually knew this one, "Sir that is a Mitre Box, it used to ensure that saw cuts are level. This one would allow the saw blade to cut piece of, mainly wood, sometimes over things, straight or a at 45 degree angle. They are good for when cutting angles legs for chairs or when forming triangular frames, which are the strongest support structure."
folding his hand in front of himself, Patroclus smiled.

Ellie nodded at the other answers.

"That's what I would say. Like, you'd put the blade through the slots and it would help you cut straight."

Was he serious!? She had to move BACK over next to Destiny. This was SO unfair. "Why do I have to sit by her? We don't have that stupid rope on us anymore." Really, what was the point in removing the rope if he was still going to force them to sit next to each other.

Crossing her arms in front of her she just sat there. She did NOT want to move. She liked where she was sitting. If he wanted her to move then he was going to have to move her himself.

Haha! Marie had decided to leave, and Destiny couldn't be happier to see her walk away..which was why she gave her friend a HUGE wave goodbye. Yes. Begone you old dirty sock!

Snickering as Marie sat over there by herself, she missed Lawson point his finger. Only when she heard his annoying voice did she realize that Marie had to come back. "Noooo!" she muttered, burying her face in her hands.

She looked up quickly to see what the next tool was before buying her face in her hands once more. She didn't know what that thing was, nor did she care, but she did wonder if it would hurt if she threw it at someone.

She would have to throw it, since Marie didn't seem to move from her spot.

Rae just snapped into reality after taking one of those Daydreaming things from the joke shop. She heard the professor ask whatever a weird something was.... Like she ever knew. To Rae, this class was a joke. The first class Rae hadn't even bothered to show up, and why she did today was a mystery. She looked around.. Xylon was sitting about ten feet from her, why hadn't she noticed before? Oh yeah, the daydream thing. Rae made sure the professor wasn't looking her way then she quickly moved over my Xylon. Maybe this class wasn't such a bad idea today....

"Hey." Rae said quietly so no one but Xylon would hear.

That voice. He could recognize it anywhere. Xylon looked up, already aware who the person to address him was. His lips turned up into one of his rare smiles. Or the smiles that were not so rare when she was around.

What kind of hold did Rae have on him, anyway? He had yet to figure that out but he was fully aware that she had a hold on him.

Rae saw him smile, which made her smile for sure. She was still half asleep though so she didn't feel like talking much, that and Lawson wouldn't appreciate it much either..... Though Rae had seen what he did with Destiny and whats-her-name. Tied their wrists together with rope... Maybe her and Xylon should have a fake war. Rae wouldn't mind being connected with Xylon. So instead of talking she had gotten out parchment and started writing.....



Hmm Rae still wasn't feeling too well...... Not since Charms... She saw him in there... Hopefully he didn't see HER. That was terrible, worse than terrible. Rae would be mortified if Xylon saw what happened. Maybe if she ate something she would feel better. She could stop by the Kitchens on her way to the seventh floor if he was up to it.

Simon put up his hand and said. "Professor that's a Mitre Box, it is used to guide a hand saw so that you can make percise cuts, because somethings need to have exact measurement overwise what you are doing won't be any good." Simon smiled and looked at the Professor hoping he had given enough info because he had loads more but didn't want to act like a know it all.

"Very good." Marcus was indeed impressed with the class' knowledge of muggle tools. He thought he might have stumped them with that one. "You will also notice that the mitre box also has a couple of grooves that are on an angle so that if you are making corners in your wood then the mitre box will give you a precise cut."

"Because I said so" Lawson replied frowning at Marie and the way she was sitting in her chair.

Oh how he would love to go over there and grab her by the scruff of the neck and drag her back over to Destiny. But alas he could not manhandle the students.

Which was a shame really.

Instead he walked around her desk so that he was now standing behind her and took out his wand. He placed the 'Glisseo' charm on the floor all the way over to Destiny's desk, he then placed his foot at the back of Marie's chair and gave it a push with foot. He followed behind her chair as she slid back across the room and flicked his wand again to stop her chair once she had reached the desk Destiny was sitting at.

As he was passing one of the desks, he paused to look over the Slytherin girls shoulder. "Perhaps Miss Quirregen you would be able to pay attention in the class if you weren't so busy setting up dates with your boyfriend. Put the note away...now, thank you."

Lawson headed back to the front of the room and turned back to look at the class. "Now you all need to pay careful attention for the next part of the lesson. We are going to first practice hammering a nail into a piece of wood and if you don't listen and observe the demonstration properly then there will be accidents and I will not be happy. Everyone understand?"

Patroclus ear's pricked up, as he heard Professor Lawson say that the practical component of the lesson was about to begin.
"Yes Sir!" Patroclus replied in soldier voice.

With a small smirk as she watched and listened to Marie being all stubborn, Evelyn rested her head on the palms of her hands as she placed her elbows on the table and just, watched.

It got even more interesting when Lawsguini started to walk over to the Slytherin. Ohhhh what was going to happen!? Another rope? Apparently since Marie was way over there, Evelyn figured that the Professor had taken the rope off. Finally! The third year Slytherin was about to go and complain to them that they were driving everyone nuts!

However, she could NOT help the laughter that escaped her when she saw how the Professor got Marie to come and sit back next to Destiny. Covering her mouth, Evelyn lowered her head so it wasn't SO obvious that she was laughing, but she was definitely having a hard time stopping.

HAHAHAHA!

It was a bit difficult to nod and say she actually understood what Lawsguini had said though. Meh. She understood. That was all that was needed.

As the Lawsonator decided to yell at Marie, Destiny removed her head out of her hands. She wanted to see the man clobber her friend over the head with a muggle tool. That's what she thought he was going to do as he walked over to her desk. With an unblinking gaze, Destiny watched him cast upon the floor and then kick the chair.

Pity. No tools were involved.

She laughed as Marie went sliding across the floor, but stopped when she realized her friend was sliding right towards her! Magic Mother of Merlin! Destiny knew Lawson didn't like her, but to make Marie crash into her? That was just WRONG! Closing her eyes, she stuck her hands out in front of herself, hoping to protect herself..even if it was a little bit.

When no collision came, Destiny opened her eyes one at a time and lowered her hands. Hmph. Lawson must have stopped the chair and now she had a freakishly large goat sitting next to her. She gave Marie an evil glare before turning back to Lawson. Did she understand? "Yup, I understand."

She understood that Lawson would be unhappy UNLESS there was an accident.

Miranda nodded, looking quite excited about their future mission, and agreeing to whatever it was Mr Lawson was warning them about.

Marie sat there refusing to move. "Because I said so." she said mocking Mean Lawson.

Pfft, whatever, she still wasn't going to get up and move. She wasn't tied to Destiny anymore, why should she have to sit by her! Oh right, because HE said so.

Nope, still not gonna move.

Why was Mean Lawson behind her? She didn't trust him at all, he was probably going to knock her out of her chair and make her fall on the floor.

But he didn't knock her out of her chair, instead he....PUSHED her! "Heyyyyy, are you crazy?" Okay that was a stupid question, It was obvious the man wesan't playing with all of his marbles. If he was he would have never tied Destiny and Marie together to begin with.

Still sitting in her chair... the one that was now sliding across the floor, she held her legs out straight, ready to kick anything... or anyone that got in her way. If only she could turn her chair around she would be able to kick Mr. Because I Said So. Finally the chair stopped... right next to Destiny.

She sat there with her arms still crossed. Pfft, he may have made her move but she still didn't get up and move on her own. Nope, she made Lawson do the work.

That man so has a kick coming.
