From the corner of her eye, Destiny saw the look she was getting from Marie. What!? It wasn't like she was the one that 'Glisseoed' the floor and kicked her chair! Pfft, Marie was asking for it now. Merlin help her friend if Lawson made them practice with the marshmallow roasters. Actually, maybe it would be a good thing if he gave her one of them. He would then know that making them sit next to eachother was a very bad idea.
Smirking at the thought of the marshmallow roaster accidentally clobbering the ragamuffin next to her in the head, she nodded towards the Lawsonator. Yeah, she was definitely ready to move on now.

Amy finished tapping the nail in gently and stood back, looking at it, one head on her shoulder, it was a little crooked but, ah well, this shouldn't be marked hopefully, next stage professor please

As noisy as the room was with all the banging from the students, Marcus could only hear one very particularly loud banging and it was coming from the other side of the room. He began to make his way over to that very loud banging, horrified at what he was seeing.
"MIRANDA! MIRANDA" he called out as he made his way over to the Hufflepuff who was hell bent on putting that nail not only through the piece of wood but the table and the floor by the looks of it.
"MIRAAAAAAAANDA!" he ended up yelling as he stood in front of her work table. "For the love of Merlin, didn't I just tell the whole class not to belt the crap out of their nail? You are lucky your hand wasn't in the way."
Oh brother!
Some of these kids had anger issues, he was sure of it.
"Does anyone need a hand? Or are you all ready to move onto the next stage?"
Huzzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Bang! went the hammer again and again and ag-
Whoop.
There was some looooooud shouting and Miranda was JUST about to continue hammering the crap out of the wood-nail-desk when she clearly finally heard Mr Lawson...'adressing' her. Ack!
Making a face of slight embarrassement, Miranda started chewing on her thumb nail as he reprimanded her. "Yes, siiir..." she answered in a low voice, quite clearly remembering him telling everyone to not do what she was doing. But she had sort of been caught up in the heat of the moment. "Sorry...Mr Lawson."
Heh.
As the Professor turned to the class again, Miranda carefully put the hammer on the table and glanced around, spotting Sarah and also giving her a 'Guess I got carried away'- kind of look.
Moving on?
Uh, yeah. Sounds good. But she only nodded her head...wondering what was next. Hehe.
Cela's hand went up. "My bit of wood is stuck to the desk." She offered, quite cheerfully.
Lawson moved over to Celandine’s table and grasped the wood and gave it a small jerk. It was stuck but there was a tiny bit of leveredge there. “Place the claw part of your hammer underneath the wood and pull the handle back towards you. It should lift the wood off the table” he said as he moved over to Sidney’s table.

“I think you might be hitting the nail at a slight angle Sidney, that is why it is bending. Try as best as you can to hit the nail as centrally as you can.” He stood back to watch how she did it.

He replaced the nail and tried again. The nail got about half way down and then stopped. "Why does it stop half way down? It gets really hard and barely even moves......" he asked. This was so useless, even if he was a muggle, Nymphy doubted hhe was the type to biuld things and use tools. Lawson almost laughed at the frustration on the boy’s face but he held it in. There was no point in upsetting the kid especially when he had a hammer in his hand. “I think you might need a little more force behind your tapping. “But not too hard and don’t hit it on an angle otherwise it will bend again.”

It seemed that everyone was ready to move onto the next stage and Marcus was happy to oblige them. “Okay this time we are going to practice sawing a piece of wood. Now I want you all to use the mitre box as guides. I don’t think any of you are ready to do this free hand as much as some of you think you are.”
He walked back up to the front of the room, where he placed a piece of wood into the mitre box. “Rest your non dominant hand atop the mitre box to keep it in place and then place the saw into the groove of the mitre box.” He paused for a moment to demonstrate to the class what he was doing. “Now to saw the wood, it is a push and pull action with your hand.”
Again he demonstrated to the class on what to do, after a minute he had managed to cut the piece of wood in half. “Okay off you go.”

After Professor Lawson finished demonstrate the class what to do, she grabbed mitre box..and then she put a piece of wood into the mitre box..Noir put her right hand atop the mitre box and she placed the saw into the groove of the mitre box..she gave pushed and pulled action with her hand to saw the wood..
After a few minutes pushed and pulled, the piece of wood cut in half.."Well, it's not bad.." she mumble to herself..

"Thank you Professor," Theo said, as he looked again at the back of the hammer to figure out how he might use it to pull the nails out. "If I put it right here and pull, it just might work." As he tried, he heard the Professor mention that it was time to move on to using the saw thingy.
Theo watched the demonstration to see that by using one hand to hold the mitre box and your fingers to hold the wood, you could move the other hand back and forth with the saw and the sharp teeth on the saw would make a nice clean cut through the wood. When it came time for Theo to give it a try he had trouble at first holding the wood to the edge of the box, it kept trying to slip as he ran the saw blade across it. Finally once he figured out how to apply the pressuare in his fingers more evenly, he was able to get the saw to cut the small piece of wood in half. "I wonder if these boxes come in different sizes?" he asked to the students around him, "what if the piece of wood is too big to fit in this thing?" he added.

Kate took another piece of wood and a mitre box. She placed both like Professor Lawson said and took a saw with her right hand.
I dont like raws...they are...dangerous...
With her hand trembling, she raised the saw slowly and placed it on the wood through the mitre box.
Why can´t my hands stop shaking?..I...I can´t do this..
"Profffffesssor...I...I can´t use the raw, I..I´m scared..What if I cut my self? That would REALLY hurt...REALLY HURT!" And while saying that, she couldn´t stop imagining the raw cuting her hand...BIG DRAMATIC SHIVER...
Kate kept looking at the raw with wilded eyes, petrified, shivering uncontrollably...
Nymphy was starting to get it, but with difficulty. Once he completed three nails successfully, he put his hammer down and took a deep breath. He needed a break from all this concntration, so he flipped his bird house on the back and began reading.
When he finished, he picked his hammer back up and tried one more time. It worked......he was now ready to move on.
Fallon smiled as they were ready to move. She never was a big fan of hammers. Exhibit A: her thumb that was still kind of red from hitting it. It still really didn't hurt.
She was kind of nervous to use the hand saw. It was one tool her dad never wanted her to touch. She didn't get why because it seemed just as dangerous as a hammer, except sharper. When they were told to start, Fallon went and grabbed a saw, a mitre box, and another piece of wood.
When Fallon got back to her seat, she placed the wood inside the mitre box and held the saw in her right hand. She made sure her fingers were out of the way before she brought the saw down on the wood. She started to saw through it and soon realized why her dad didn't like hand saws. They were hard work when you used them.

Chris had to keep himself from chuckling when he saw Professor Lawson speaking to Miranda after her somewhat violent attack on the piece of wood, at least she wasn't in real trouble.
Ok next muggle tool! Chris's eyes lit up as the Professor showed them the next tool, a saw...pretty self-explanitory. Noting the wierd box thingy, Chris waited until Lawson was finished telling them all about the proper sawing technique, before he raised his hand to ask a question. "Professor, so is the box thingy the only form of 'safety block' on a saw?"
While he waited for the answer, the seventh year went ahead an began his own sawing. Placing the Mitre Box on the piece of wood Chris set the saw in one of the grooves and began to saw. He kept going and then after a few way too deep cuts, he lowered his power in the cuts and finally finished.
Alex rolled her eyes at the next muggle tool eyeing it hesistantly picking up a piece of wood and used the miter..mitre box thing to attempt to cut it. God was this saw heavy, she thought her other hand feeling werid and useless from it's spot on the mitre box, after what seemed forever the wood was cut.
It seemed that everyone was ready to move onto the next stage and Marcus was happy to oblige them. “Okay this time we are going to practice sawing a piece of wood. Patroclus watched on as Professor Lawson demonstrated sawing with the use of the mitre box.
'Easy enough' the third year thought to himself.
Picking up his piece of wood, Patroclus made saw the watch out for the nail, pointing out on one side, he then placed it in the mitre box, and collected his saw. The grip on the end of the saw was hard plastic, slightly rough from use. Shaking it ever so slightly, he noticed that the blade of the saw began to wobble. He was impressed that such a structurally weak looking tool, could slice wood so proficiently.
Placing the blade in the guides of the mitre box, Patroclus gave a push with his arm, not at all expecting what would happen. The blade slide through the guide, only grazing the top of the wood, and with the blade went Patroclus' body weight. He found himself nearly lying on the mitre box. His effort had been used to move the blade, not to pierce the wood.
Standing back up he tried again, this time ensure he pushed down as well as away. The saw dug lower and lower into the wood, with every push and pull motion Patroclus made. In a few seconds he heard a crack, as the saw reached through to the other side. "Success!"
It seemed that everyone was ready to move onto the next stage and Marcus was happy to oblige them. “Okay this time we are going to practice sawing a piece of wood. Oh, Gold hadn't used a mitre box for the purpose of woodwork, before. She had used it extensively for tile-work, but this was going to be different. Not in the basics, of course not, but in the essence of the work.
Even a simple change of material can make a huge difference; and Gold knew that well enough to appreciate Professor Lawson's gesture - not allowing them to use the saw, without a guide.
She picked up a mitre box, and placed it in front of her self. Then she placed her right hand, as instructed, atop the guide, to keep it in place. Her grip firm without her actually trying, she carefully shifted in the saw, with her left hand. Cheerfully adjusting the piece of wood, Gold eyed the mini set-up.

"Okay." Celandine tried that, the claw slipping under the wood with some effort, though the lifting part turned out to be much easier and soon the wood was free of the table. Too bad she couldn't try more hammering.
Cela flipped it over so the nail wouldn't catch again and listened to the new instructions. Mitre box? Okies. She put it in front of her and put the bit of wood inside, right hand resting to hold everything in place well out of the way of the sawing bit. But which groove? There were lots of grooves! She chose one at random and slipped the saw into it. Push and pull? She started doing that and it was only after a few moments that she realised a downward pressure was necessary to, on the wood that was. Teehee.
It was hard work. Diffindo was so more her thing. It took her at least three times as long as it had taken the professor, but eventually the bit of wood was cut in half along the straight line of the mitre box groove.

William smiled nodding, "Thank you Sir." he said taking the jar and looking at it. Putting down his hammer he opened it and took some cream on his fingers before rubbing it on his hand. He could feel it cool then warm and sighed. Smiling again he nodded his thanks once more and looked on as Lawson continued on with the lesson. As long as he didn't hurt himself anymore he'd be fine he thought flexing his hand experimentally.
He needed to get the nail out of the wood before sawing or else he'd have a problem. Picking up his hammer he glared at it and turned it around to the pointy end - the claw - and squinted as he put it to the nail. He had to dig in a bit before the claw thingy grasped the nail before pulling at it. Slowly it came out with a small squeaking sound but it was out. And without him hurting himself either. Score one for him.
Now for sawing he thought sighing in his mind as he looked at the box, the one that would help with the sawing. It looked weird he thought holding it in his hand and looking it over. But he was determined not to hurt himself, especially with the sharp pointy thing on the table. That was all he needed a nasty cut and a trip to the nurses. Not going to happen he mused as he put the box on the table and placed his bit of wood inside it. It looked like some kind of alien device he mused, a smirk appearing on his face before a look of concentration appeared in his blue eyes as he held the mitre box with his right hand, the left holding the saw. With a small grunt he began pushing and pulling the saw watching as it began cutting into the wood.
Pulling and pushing was hard work he mused, wishing he could use the Diffindo spell he was more used too. Muggles had it hard he thought as the wood finally splintered and it was straight on the line of the box. His arm was sore though.

Oh goodie! They were getting to play with the big knife now!
Which might have been fun, if Destiny wasn't sitting so close to Marie..yeah, the girl was starting to freak her out a little bit. Watching the demonstration, she scooted in her chair a little, trying to get as far away from the ragamuffin as she could without leaving the table. Heh, she didn't get very far..
A frown appeared on her face knowing that they HAD to use the mitre box. Pfft, what a waste of time. She didn't want to have to put the board in the box, THEN place her hand on top, THEN start sawing. She just wanted to saw the thing now! She knew how to cut things in a straight line already, sawing should be the same, right? Before she had a chance to ask if it was the same, Lawson said off they go! "Off with your head."
She was NOT talking to him. She was talking..to the board..yup.
Placing the board in the box, she rested her left hand on top to keep it still, and put the saw in the little groove.
She gave a smirk towards Marie, before moving the saw in the snazzy push and pull motion.
Her arm was tired..
..already.

The frowning was making Miranda uncomfortable...in a 'now you did it' kind of way. She blinked alot and tried not to look at the Professor that much, but he WAS sort of hard to miss.
But the next thing he said made her frown a little. Take points? Pfffffffft. She rolled her eyes slightly and then took on a look of a sulky five year old. Heh.
Whatever.
Now they were going to saw a piece of wood. Hm...... How hard could THAT be?
She watched the Professor sawing the board and he made it look pretty easy. So...it WAS easy, right? Pffffffffffft. Right!
Grabbing the sawing-majigg, Miranda wedged a piece of wood where she assumed it should go. Now, with that thing in place, she grabbed the handle of the saw with her right and put her other ontop of the thinga-majigg and started to push-and-pull.
Guh!
Push-and-pull, push-and-pull, push-and-pull... Sheeses! When was this thing going to like...PART IN THE MIDDLE? Her chaser arm was strong, but this action was making her use completely other muscles in a whole different un-Quidditch way.
And with the impatience she felt now, Miranda couldn't help but want to MAKE THE ONE PIECE OF WOOD BECOME TWO process go MUCH FASTER. Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.
Stopping the sawing action, Miranda grabbed the wood and inspected it. hm. It looked sort of halfway through. Maybe she could make this parting go alot faster - yes?
Positioning the wood so only half of it was on the table - the slit in the middle over the edge - she held it firmly down and took the hammer once more in her right hand. Now, with a forceful beating...
CrAAAAaaaCK!
A nice loud thud as one half hit the floor...and there were now TWO pieces of wood. Awesome.
Sure, she hadn't used the entire power of the mitre box...but she got the job done.
"Come on Professor let me do it free handed." Simon smiled at the Professor. "This sort of thing is just so easy." Simon had been sawing for years, it was his dad and his hobby it give them something to do to relax, he had loads of other things to do but they were duty and this was just a nice relaxing hobby." Simon looked at the Professor wondering what he would say.
Lawson eyed the young Hufflepuff and a tiny smirk formed on his lips. “How about we do it my way first and then I’ll decide if you are responsible enough to do it free hand.”

Finally once he figured out how to apply the pressuare in his fingers more evenly, he was able to get the saw to cut the small piece of wood in half. "I wonder if these boxes come in different sizes?" he asked to the students around him, "what if the piece of wood is too big to fit in this thing?" he added.
“If the wood is too big to fit in a mitre box then it probably means you need a chainsaw or a power saw to cut through the wood.” Lawson gave the Gryffie another smile at least he was asking sensible questions. “And, no, we won’t be using any of those” he added

Making his way over to the young girls work table, Lawson lent against the bench. “Take a few deep breaths okay. That is why we are using the mitre box. There is no way that you can’t hurt yourself using one of those.” He gave her a small pat on the shoulder, “And it’s called a saw.”

“Well there are clamps to hold your wood in place and muggles also have what they call a work horse. You place your piece of wood on it and by placing your knee on the wood and using your body weight you can hold the wood in place while you saw.” He looked at Chris and added in a dry tone, “You can probably guess why I didn’t suggest that method.”
And as if to prove his point there was some more banging and a very loud CRACK!!

Now what? Let's gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
“MIRAAAAAAAAAANDA!!”
Lawson strode over to the Hufflepuff’s table and snatched the hammer out of the sixth year’s hand and thumped it down onto the table.
“What is the matter with you? Are you deliberately trying to get into trouble or is it that you simply like hearing me scream at you?” He placed his hands on the table and lent forward and narrowed his eyes at the girl.
“That’s five points from Hufflepuff for acting in a dangerous manner. I would have thought someone in your position would be setting a better example for the younger students. One more foolish act from you Miss Belcanto and it will be detention.”
Without taking his eyes off the Hufflepuff, he called out to the class. “How is everyone else going? Does anyone need a hand?”
Having shifted the hand-saw on to the mitre box and right through a groove, Gold was finally, finally ready to use it. She re-adjusted the piece of wood, and got to work. Push and pull. Of course, she knew she would have to apply a downward pressure, too.
Because without that, any amount of push-and-pull-ingg would be useless.
Grip firm, she finally started to move the saw. The first scratch was pretty much immediate, but it took a little longer, for the cut to get deep enough. Gold made sure she did not apply too much pressure, and end up hurting the desk beneath. Push and pull. Push and puu -- Crack.
The piece of wood broke, right through the middle. Through her equilateral triangle of nails, too. Oh, well. Gold carefully removed the mitre box and saw to safety, and picked up the TWO pieces of wood.

So, time to bring out the big buns! Or, whatever the muggles say.
Taking the mitre box, the Slytherin placed it down in front of her before taking her, smallish piece of block of wood, and placing that in the box. Woot. Pfft, she got this down pat! However, she could not saw this thing sitting down. It was, impossible.
So, glancing over at the Professor, who was, yelling...again... Evelyn stood up and picked up the saw. Wow, lighter than it looked! However, it was probably more dangerous then it looked too. Putting it in one of the little slot things, the third year tried to saw the wood...
Except, it was still impossible. Why wasn't it...sawing!? Taking the saw out of the slot, she saw that there was barely any dent or line in the wood at all. It didn't want to be sawed in half. What in the world, was this piece of wood's problem? Putting the saw back into the mitre box, Evelyn tried again, this time a little faster.
Pfft, first she gets a retarded broom in potions that won't sweep, and now she gets a retarded piece of wood that didn't cut. Fantastic...

Push and pull motion.
Heh. By the time this class was finished, Destiny was going to have a huge muscle! Then her arms would be unevenly proportioned. Pfft, she could never win. Glancing at Evelyn for a second, a laugh escaped as she saw the saw not cutting the board. "Pssst, Evelyn! Your board is upside down." That was why it wasn't working, obviously.
She couldn't wait for Evelyn to flip the board around, since she was still in the middle of sawing her own board. Perhaps she should pay attention, so she doesn't cut anyone in half..which reminded her..
Holding the saw up a little with her right hand, she removed her left from the mitre box and raised it HIGH, "Professsssor! Don't the muggles use this saw thingamabob to cut people in half and put them back together!? Can weeee doooo that tooooo?"
She gave a quick glance towards Marie.
"PLEASE!?"

Lawson eyed the young Hufflepuff and a tiny smirk formed on his lips. “How about we do it my way first and then I’ll decide if you are responsible enough to do it free hand.”
"But Professor I've been cutting wood since I was six." Simon sighed. "And last year I used a chainsaw." He smiled as he heard the Professor say about them and was sad when he said they weren't going to use one.
Simon took the micro Box and looked at it for a few minutes. "Do I really have to use one of these?" He asked.

Stupid...saw...
Not working...
Taking a small break however, the Slytherin glanced at Destiny when she said something was wrong with her board. It was upside down? How in the world would that make any difference? Frowning, Evelyn took the saw out of the mitre box before flipping the board to the other side, and placing the saw back in one of the slots.
It still wasn't working.
"Brilliant idea, genius." she mumbled before stopping once more and just, holding the saw in place. "Doesn't work."
Yea. She didn't know the saw was upside down. Meh.
