Default Menagerie Displays

If it doesn't come in a cage or a tank, you will find it on the displays. Aside from the animals available in the store, you can also buy numerous supplies here as well. From health to medicinal to necessities to toys and accessories, you can find anything your new pet may need or desire just by browsing the displays! No matter the pet, you are sure to find a variety of supplies to welcome yours into the family, or pamper an old friend.

Numerous different foods can be found, from sensitive stomach to diet, and regular. If you need shampoo of any kind, they can be found in this area, too. If your pet has fleas or ticks, you can take care of them with a bottle or two. Of course, if you just want your Crup to stop smelling like wet Cruppie, these shampoos can even take care of that! While you're here, check out some of the grooming supplies. Brushes of all shapes, sizes, and materials are available. Snag a smaller brush to fluff up your pygmy puff's fur, maybe a wiry brush to tame your Niffler's hair, and your cat or dog would probably greatly enjoy a dander-snagging brush to keep them smooth and sparkly.

Necessary supplies include such items as tanks, aquariums, cages, travel cages, and more. Make sure to buy everything you need; wouldn't you hate to get home and find out you forgot something? If you need to, talk to the shop keeper to make sure you're buying the appropriate size and type of cage for your new pet. Some animals need much larger environments and some do not do well in certain types of cages.

If toys and accessories are what your pet is desiring, you'll find a plethora! Collars and leashes are just the tip of the iceberg. Your pet can be the most stylish if you pick up some nifty outfits for them. Mix and match the pieces to create a fashionable wardrobe! Booties are available for when the weather becomes too cold for your pets to bear it. All kinds of toys can be found here - from balls to squeaky toys, fake mice, feathers, dangly toys, shiny flashy toys... Your pet will never be bored with this selection.

When you've found the creature you've been looking for, please make your way to the counter for purchase!

If you are looking for animals, please see our creatures room.

He had meant for Brighton to take the collar. It wasn't uncommon for him to have thought wrong.

Payton gave the collar a couple of shakes while his friend inspected his joking offer with a mixture of disinterest and humor; an odd combination only Brighton Brown could certainly pull off. "I do like furry things," he admitted with a secretive grin. "I hope she keeps that in mind."

Her arrival was announced not by her voice, or the blazing vision of her red hair, but by the sinister sound her heels produced. The click-clacking against the floor of the menagerie produced an arch in Payton's eyebrows. In his mind's eyes he could see the gates of Hell opening up inch by clacking inch, bit by bit, as the sound drew nearer.

He had straightened up by the time she made it to them. "I also like plaid," he told her over his shoulder, tossing the collar lightly at her. Payton pocketed his hands inside his trouser pockets. "I don't care if it's not high fashion."

Fortunately for her, Zoe was always prepared when it came to her boys--well, men now--and had become somewhat of a professional at tracking them down. She was sure that one of them would say something about her need to constantly be around them, but she didn't care. It wasn't about them it was about her and she needed their validation, like, yesterday.

Coincidentally, Zoe was in need of pet supply things--as Brighton informed her that she would be taking a kitten, and she needed to prepare for her impending motherhood--so she was all smiles when she entered the menagerie and casually strolled around the shop. She took extra care in making sure that her stiletto pumps connected with the ground forcefully to announce her presence. Zoe Avery was anything but subtle when it came to her entrances. As the woman walked around, she heard two distinct, familiar voices and, with a flip of her hair, the red-head made her way over to the two men who gave her the most grief in her life.

"Good to know that you recognize my proclivity for high fashion," she said, slipping in front of them to look at the display.

Brighton's grin was wide, a little mischievous, it made his dark eyes crinkle. There were many follow up comments he could have made at his brother, most would have made his mother flush--and slapped him across the mouth several times, but. There were more pressing matters at hand, such as the arrival of the devil's spawn herself, assuming the devil was even real.

Though he had plenty of experience--over a decade's worth, really--to know that he probably was. If anything because that was the only possibly way to explain her existence.

He caught the collar in the air before it reached Zoe, strapped it on. "Thought I smell the sulfur." Then he turned to look at her, grin still fixed in place. "I'm all set, as you can see." It clashed horribly with the teal of his teal cardigan and white of his undershirt. "Forget the plaid, Payton. Don't be common." He wagged his finger at him. "Let Zoe work her magic, or... whatever it is she calls it." Demonic incantations. Rituals?
"Plenty of things here for sacrifice."

Plaid? Zoe didn't even hide her shock and horror at that. "That's a crime, and you know it." There was no discussing this; even in the muggle world, plaid was just so... American. The thought of either one of her friends wearing it (and willingly, at that) made her shudder in disgust. Even more offensive? The collar that Payton so lovingly threw at her; thankfully, the gods were on her side today as the sensible one out of their dynamic duo caught the collar.

"Always the charmer," she said to Brighton absently. The woman was so used to their banter that she barely registered when slights were thrown her way. And besides, they were stuck with for eternity and even in the after life so, really, they couldn't get rid of her even if they tried. "One of these days, you both will tempt me and there will be no coming back from that," she warned casually, nudging Payton aside to get a better look at the collar that Brighton put on. "Horrible. It's so ugly, take it off." Her eyes drifted towards a nearby display and she click-clacked all the way over to it - for the drama, y'know - and picked up what looked to be small collar, full of rhinestones, and other cutesy things. "This would look so adorable on my new kitten." She expected both of them to agree enthusiastically with her.

Wowza!

There was a little freedom to happily licking her ice cream without an adult by her side; never mind that Flavia walked only three steps behind her. Nerissa was most uncharacteristically almost skipping down Diagon Alley. There was a definite spring to her step, at least. Acquiring any sort of pet wasn't part of the plan because having a pet had never occurred to her parents, and therefore, it had never occurred to her. It wasn't that Nerissa lacked imagination or had wants of her own; it was just that at a very young age she'd learned it was better, less prone to disappointments, to live within the confines of what her parents set for her.

But her parents weren't around, which was entirely their own doing. Or fault. Definitely fault. And Flavia, in the two years she'd known her, had never been much of an authority figure. So Nerissa saw little problem with planting herself outside the menagerie. She held her ice cream high in the air with one hand, and practically pressed her nose to the glass as she tried to get a better look of a particularly furry cat.

"He looks very off-putting." This was not said as if such a quality was a bad thing. Her grin was small and very slow. "Or is it a she? All cats look the same to me." She paused. "Oh! Maybe it's a kneazle." Her head tilted to one side.

Mercy was still nervous about finding all the books and things she needed for second year but it was not bothering her as much as it did earlier in the day so by the time Mercy and her chaperone made it to the Menagerie. She wanted to look around. The truth was she had never thought about getting a pet and to be honest, did not even know if she was allowed one. She walked to the glass just to see what was inside. The girl with the ice cream looked like she was not even paying attention that much so Mercy chose to move to the side with the least chance of being pelted by ice cream in case she dropped it.

Never be too careful.

It was a nice kneazle Was she talking to her or someone around?

Mercy looked left and right to see who else and well there were people none of them were paying attention

"....uh its a kneazle...you can um tell by the tail and fur"

Well, it could also be a half kneazle and Mercy could totally be wrong.

She shouldn't have said anything.

Being a fairly lonely child, Nerissa was largely used to talking to herself and this time it was no different. Rhetorical questions, narrating her own thoughts, counting mooncalves until she fell asleep; in such ways she managed to keep herself entertained. So when the other girl supplied an answer, it took her two beats to notice the answer was not, in fact, coming from inside her own head.

It didn't help that that it had been a really quiet voice, too.

She turned, slowly, and a little confused and--well, she wasn't necessarily embarrassed to have been found talking to herself. And, besides, Flavia was not that far off; she could always claim to have been talking to her au pair, if it came to it. But she had the good sense to appear embarrassed, anyway. It was the expected thing, after all. A blush would have probably helped her case, but there was little to be done about the present lack of it; it's not like those could be extricated by sheer force of will. "Oh." She glued her nose to the glass again, trying to get a look at the creature's tail. "How interesting." Back to the kneazle. "Hello. Do turn around. I must see your tail." Nerissa frowned, watching the creature turn to look at them fully and effectively hiding its tail. She knocked on the glass, lightly, then remembered her ice cream and gave it one lick. And another. It looked ready to start properly melting.

"Are they often this contrary?" Contrary. Mama loved using that word, and she especially loved using to complain about papa under her breath. You're so contrary, Ralston. "Can they be trained?" It didn't occur to her that the other girl was, perhaps, not a reliable source of information. Or that it could be construed as rude to peddle perfect strangers with questions. "Oh! If I were to buy it--" or, gasp, help it get lost, "--would I be permitted to take it to Hogwarts?"

Well if she was talking to herself Mercy was sorry for disturbing her. But it didn't seem like she was? No rudeness and all she did was just talk to Mercy. Was the kneazle going to listen to her now. Didnt look like it even with the tapping on the glass. Must be use to it being looked at all day.

"What does that mean...contrary?"

Could they be trained. Mercy had not read anything saying they couldn't. They were intelligent. She knew that so yes. One thing sure she was not ready for the questions. good questions just Mercy was no expert and er barely felt confidents answering the first question.

"I think..they...can....the letter says cat, toad or owl. No kneazles, sorry...i think some people sneak them in"

Dont know if they send the kneazle right back to the parents or let them keep it?

Wowza!

Nerissa tapped the glass again as she took a couple of licks. The kneazle awarded her by baring its teeth at her and hissing, and she wondered if it expected her to do the same. Would she earned its respect if she did? Regular words seldom worked at home to get anyone's attention, so it stood to reason that with animals and magical creatures in general, it wouldn't be any different. They weren't human, after all.

She opened her mouth, to hiss back. Then caught her reflection on the glass, and remebered she was not alone. It would not be--appropriate, to do such things in public. Or in private. Nerissa didn't know or how it could be construed as improper, but she just knew emulating the sounds made by a four-legged curry creature was just not something mama would approve of, certainly not if there were people watching.

With interest, she turned to the other girl. "I am..." Not sure. I don't know. "Well." She frowned, scrunched up her nose. "Mama uses it, sometimes." Not sometimes. But some things were better left unsaid when strangers were concerned. Or were anyone was concerned, really. "When she's displeased with my papa." She gave her cone another lick. "And papa can be--" she was going to borrow one of her mother's words here, again, "--disagreeable. Just like the kneazle." Come to think of it, they looked alike, too. A little tawny, with some white spots all over their hair. Yes. Definitely like her papa.

It almost made her dimple. And it also gave her an excuse to ignore part of what the girl said; that kneazles weren't part of the list of permitted pets. "They look like cats." Tail aside, anyway. She finished her eye ice cream, gave the kneazle a look, and then gave the girl a look. The one for the latter more speculative than the former's. "I am Nerissa. What's your name?"

Well, that answered one of Mercy's questions. The kneazle did not like people tapping on the glass for long periods of time. Mercy has about to point it out but she stopped anyway. Which was a relief since Mercy didn't really want to point it out?

She was fine just watching.

Oh, it was a word her mom used. That didn't help. Mercy would have to look it up when she got back to her room. Sounded like something you did not want to be if it was used a lot.

"So its used when they are fighting or arguing?"

Interesting word, regardless. Was she still thinking about getting a kneazle.

Nerissa had not expected a follow up question to that, certainly not one as--intrusive. She fixed the girl with a curious glance, perhaps now looking at her in a whole new light. "Is there a difference between the two?" Well, she supposed fighting could also include coming to literal blows with a person. Not that Nerissa had ever seen such things at home. Or, well, anywhere. Brawls belong to scandalous books she'd nick from her papa's study to read under her covers, late at night. "Mama would say that they have disagreements, though." Her eyes began to roll, heavenwards, to show just what she really thought about that, but caught herself right on time.

This was still a stranger. Family matters were not to be shared with strangers, certainly not easily. She'd heard that enough times for slips to happen.

Mercy. "Mercy." She smiled, looked at the shop then back at her. "How do you feel about cats?"

Where she lived arguments usually lead to full-on fights magical or muggle way it didn't matter. The did get sorted out and stopped by the staff but still, they were interesting to watch. Mercy didnt know if there was a difference
but it really wasn't important and seemed like there was nothing more to say on that "I don't know" Disagreement sounded right. She would never know since she never knew her parents. So the whole thing was interesting in a wow peoples lives were sure different, way.

If that makes sense

"I like Cats better than Owls..i dont worry so much about letters"

She had no one to write anyway and if anything the school had owls anyway.

Gwen had suggested they get a new pet and Jory didn't see why not. His owl, Tobias, was well over twenty years now and getting slower in delivering posts when he was sent to do that. Furball the pygmy puff was almost twenty years old too. He followed his wife into the Menagerie, eyes already trained on the cages and other supplies.

He hadn't the foggiest of what he wanted but he suspected he'd know when he saw it. Or he'd just be happy to go along with whatever Gwen wanted. "I reckon Furball wouldn't mind a squeaky toy,'' he mused aloud. "What do you think, Gwen?"

A new pet!

They were getting a new pet!!

Gwen could hardly contain her enthusiasm. Although she should be acting like the responsible adult now, she couldn’t help but feel like she did the first time she walked into this shop. The time she got Jinx. That time, choosing a pet wasn’t difficult at all; she found the black cat within the first five minutes.

Hmm. What did she think?

‘Sure’, she nodded to Jory. ‘We can browse for some toys and accessories first’. After that, they could go look for their new pet! But what did they want?

‘How do you feel about getting a crup?’, Gwen suddenly said with a smirk, her attention shifting from the displays back to Jory.

Jory just stood there, a small smile in place as his eyes locked onto Gwen. She looked so happy and ready to choose a pet. Then again, she did love this place and the animals. If he remembered right, this had been exactly where she had gotten Jinx from.

He'd leave the decision up to his wife since there wasn't a particular animal he wanted. Whatever she chose, he and the kids would like. Jory's eyes were now on a purple squeaky toy and soon he was considering an orange one. Which would Furball like? While he tried to decide, he considered Gwen's suggestion.

"I definitely think the kids would like that. I think they'd like a cruppie more though.''
