| | |  Stack of Barrels
 In a nook on the right-hand side of the basement corridor stands a large stack of barrels. To most students, such a sight might seem unimportant. However, to those who were sorted into Hufflepuff, these barrels are invaluable. Concealed behind one of these barrels is the entrance to their common room, which has not been seen by a student belonging to another house in over a thousand years.
Of course, anyone is welcome to attempt accessing the sanctum of Helga Hufflepuff. You only need to tap the barrel two from the bottom, in the middle of the second row, in the rhythm of 'Helga Hufflepuff.' Any member of the loyal lady's house will be able to do this with their eyes closed and get the lid to swing open and expose a crawl-way, but anyone else will find themselves in a sticky situation. If the wrong lid is tapped or the rhythm done incorrectly, you will instantly be doused with vinegar and barred from accessing the common room. With that said, tap carefully.

Turns out, the color changing charm was not as easy to master as the second year had hoped. It had been her goal for the beginning of term, and yet everything always turned out so SPLOTCHY. And truthfully, she didn't NEED the color changing charm but... it would have made the act of getting into the Hufflepuff common room soooo much less conspicuous. At least with her hair having multiple colors wasn't THAT weird.... right?
But something told her a tye dyed tie would be sure to draw attention.
So instead, she'd gone to the laundry room and managed to snag an extra couple sets of robes. For quick change, if the girls needed were they to get caught, and now she was patiently waiting outside of the common room for Maria. She'd also been trying to see if she could pick up the pattern to get in from the passing students but... she had a terrible memory and this was no exception.
Plus, she always heard getting that wrong was reaaaaally unpleasant. Best off to wait for her friend.

Maria left the girl's dorm with her robes on backwards and her tie only halfway knotted, her dark hair more curly than ever, and with a nagging feeling in the pit of her stomach for her little cat's whereabouts. She hoped emmy wasn't walking around in the FF. Crawling out of the barrel walkway Maria dusted off her robes as she landed on the ground in the dungeon spotting a waiting Ve as she did so. Oh right, they had planned to meet and put their common room plan to work, and she had completley forgotten. Oops!

Smoothing down her unruly hair as best she could, she then realized her robes were on backwards which caused her face to turn an instant embarrassed red as she tried to turn her robes right. "I, uh left in a hurry to meet you out here...." she explained. Not saying anything about wanting to search for her cat, to see that she was not in any trouble.

She often found ways to keep herself entertained, usually to the annoyance of others though this time around she didn't think she was actually disturbing anyone. Having grown bored of waiting for people to come by so she could watch them do the barrels, she had a piece of parchment laid in front of her to continue to practice her spell work.
Which was... not going well.
Hearing Maria's voice, Vera looked up from her spoke on the ground and beamed at the girl. "Hi! Of COURSE I am! I think I've got the hair color changing charm down for our hair!" She absolutely did not. Seeing her fix her robes, Ve just waved a hand in the air as if to ward away any embarrassment Maria might have been feeling. There was no embarrassment between friends! Besides, it was a whole LOOK and Ve just thought she'd actually found a new fashion trend. "We're changing into different robes anyways so backwards, forwards, inside out... no matter!"
Though if she did need to look for her cat, they could absolutely prioritize that too whilst changing!

Swallowing Maria nodded hiding how nervous she felt about turning her hair a different colour among many other things that could go wrong. Quickly she put on a smile. "Shall we change our robes where we stand here and now? Isn't it better if we do the robes change, and hair change in Myrtles loo? Here we might get caught by a prefect or a passing professor." Maria didn't want her or Vera to get in trouble, and if they really were going to go through with their full plan then they had to not get caught before they even got to try wearing each others robes.
"Ve, what shall we do if you/i get asked something when you are inpersonating me and I'm impersonating you? Do our voices sound similiar, do you think?" It'd be a give away if they looked the part, but didn't sound right. Could the lions portrait and the barrels too for that matter attack them?

It was another STEALTH MODE kind of day, and Peeves and his book were doing some invisible traversing of the corridors.
Oh! What was this? Shenanigans? Hijinks? Mischiiieeeeef?
An opportunity was what it was. With invisible book in invisible hand, Peeves cast a little invisible hocus pocus at one of the students (Maria), before invisible floating off on his merry invisible way. A gleeful distant cackling was the only other evidence he'd left that he'd been there at all. "Heheheheh!"

"i don't know how often traveling this area is by the Professor's but you would DEFINITELY know best there. Where is Myrtle's loo??" And was that the one that led to the chamber for the basilisk?! Could they take a detour?
Hmmm. "I don't think we need to impersonate each other - that would probably be waaaaaay too easy for someone to catch us. I think we just need to be... not us!" MOST people knew Vera was a Gryffindor and Maria was a Hufflepuff, so seeing them in the wrong spot would be suspicious. "We're small! We should just... pretend to be first years. THAT way if we look out of place, we can just claim being new and no one will question it!" Hopefully. Maybe.
A laugh caught her ear and Vera looked around for the sound, wondering if they were caught ALREADY. But... she didn't see anyone. "M... did you HEAR that!?"

She avoided that loo for a number of reasons one being Myrtle herself and the other being the basilisk story.
Furrowing her brows at Ve she asked "How shall we act like not us?" Considering Ve's idea she admitted thoughtfully "Pretending to be first years having lost our way and not knowing stuff could work, hopefully." I've been trying to convince my Papa for ages to let me have a pet one! I'm hoping once I'm a littttttle older I can appeal to Headmaster Kazoo and Professor Lo-" She paused from referring to Professor Paton as Logan's mom, figuring that probably was not how she was expecting to be addressed. "Professor Paton to let me bring one to school as my companion! Maaaaaaybe then Papa would let me have one!" And maybe then she could convince Maria how AWESOME snakes were!
"I could pretend to be quiet? If I don't talk a lot I'm sure no one would guess it's me!" She could pretend to be SHY. Maybe get some names right? Although... if she were capable of doing that with the flip of a switch, she probably wouldn't have such a hard time with them to begin with. "Being a lost first year is probably much easier though. We should just do that! No one looks THAT closely at first years anyways, do they?" Had anyone paid her any attention last term??
Ve was still trying to run through other ideas in her head on how to be sneaky and pull this off, when she heard Maria asking if she LOOKED any different. The lioness blinked for a moment, tilting her head as she surveyed her friend. "Uh... not yet, I don't think? We haven't tried any of the spells or anything yet so... why would you?" Was Maria feeling okay??
