Default Herbology Lesson 2

At eight o'clock in the morning, the door to the Second Greenhouse is wide open. You step inside to find that the tables are set differently. Instead of being separately scattered around they are aligned next to each other forming one long table right in the center of the greenhouse. Wooden chairs are also lined on both sides of the tables next to each other. The Professor's table is no where to be seen. But he is standing right at the further end of the tables with his hands on the table and a few feet behind him is a blackboard.

Aside from the different arrangements of the tables you will notice another important thing; there is absolutely nothing on the tables. Look closely around you and you will also see that every other pot is covered and no plant is in sight.

ooc: Lesson will not start for at least another 16 hours! Also, note that there certainly have been a number of lessons before this one.

Class has officially started. Do not post you character arriving late, act as if they've been here all the time

Alright first question of the morning, he needed to rack his brains with smartness and what not. At least this question wasn't so bad. He thought about it. How can you tell when a plant is sick? Kace raised his hand, "Professor you can tell by the coloring of the plant depending on what type of disease it is. Like if it died from dehydration I think the plant would turn like a brownish color?" He wasn't quite sure if he got it right but hey this what he experienced working on the farm back home.

...Why was the man up there staring at her? Was there something in her teeth? Shruuuuug.

So this was a plants class? Dorothys hand shot in the air. She knew about plants, uh-huh. "Aunty Em says you've gotta check the roots to see if they're brittle. At least that's what we do back on the farm." If she answered these questions would the man in front help her find her way back home?

Well, there was this one time where he got really sick, and that his skin started to show some itchy rash. His mother got alarmed by it, because on top of his high fever, skin irritation surfaced too. So yeah, maybe plants do show the same sign if it's sick? "Professor?" Hand up. "Could a plant be sick if it has spots on its foliage?" Not all mundane plants have spots, right? It should be some sort of irregularity, so it must be a sign.

Putting his hand down, he got his writing implements, and prepared to take some notes. Well, it looks like today's going to be a long one...

Arts TRANSPONSTER!

This was no Transfiguration class, but the professor was maybe Agatha's favourite second only to professor Bellaire, OBIVOUSLY. At least his looks were her favourite. Smirk.

The Slytherin barely had time to take a sit and the man was already asking the first question. And people were answering. So would Agatha. "They're probably ill if there are insects in them. Like, eating them, I mean." Easy enough to tell, isn't it?

A Poop * k8 *

Eden's high spirits were only FURTHERED when she realized she saw quiiiiite a few friendly faces in the class. SQUEEE! Hehehe. She waved at Maddie and gave the girl a REALLY big smiiiiiile. Hehehe. The younger Ravenclaw was so....wise beyond her years. Eden could DEFINITELY see herself going to the girl for...advice and whatnot...and Maddie was what? A second year? HA. But really--Maddie was a fifty-year-old hidden in a tiny girl's body. Or something.

Kevin came in, and Eden gave him a wave, too, even if she didn't get a wave back, she had at least TRIED. And...he had gotten detention because of her...ooops? No hard feelings...? OH OH OH! HI CINNA! She waved eagerly at her friend and smiiiiiiled at her.

OH NO! It was JUSTINEEEE! Eden wanted to hide--but the girl sat RIGHT NEXT TO HER. Snaaap! She just rolled her eyes at her and grinned. "Hush, Justine--" she said quickly and kicked her under the table--not hard--but yeah. SHHH Justine! Hehe ^__^ Eden couldn't say she didn't enjoy the banter--she did. But her cheeks...they were on FIRE right now.

Right. Professor Walton was speaking--and having a good day, so far, it seemed, for he was being semi-POLITE. Eden HAD to grin at him--GAH. Professor Cutiepants...okay? OKAY.

SICK PLANTS.

Eden could deal with that. And since it was of the muggle variety, she thought she might be good at this...she WAS half muggle, after all. And her mother....liked plants...had a garden and whatnot. "A sick plant is obviously droopy--but that doesn't mean it's DEAD--you can still save a droopy plant!" she piped up, eagerly, thinking back to the garden at her house.

So they were being plant healers today? Maddie took a moment to consider this. She wasn't particularly interested in mundane plants but there would probably be some cross-over in what you could do to help keep plants thriving so the brunette would pay attention. Such a good student, she was.

After listening to some of her classmates provide examples, something Ethan said caught her attention. "Those spots that were mentioned, well those could mean your plant is having a problem with fungi. It could also look like a white powdery substance on the leaves." And there were probably other ways it could appear too but Maddie wasn't sure.

Oh? He was being joined by both David AND Ruby? Brilliant. He liked this seating arrangement. Grayson gave both of them 'sup nods and a smile because he was HAPPY to see them. This lesson was looking up already and now he was sure that it was gonna be a GOOD one, even if it had started at a ridiculous hour.

The question? WELL. The answer seemed a little obvious at first because dead plants had brown leaves. Simple. He'd seen plenty of them die, and there was a whole season dedicated to leaves turning brown and falling off of trees. It was, in fact, what his mind went to at first when Walton asked the question but since the answer had been said already, he'd go with something else. Something along the lines of.......

............. oh.

Snap.

"What about the stem?" Because nobody had mentioned that. "The stem's usually firm and pliable but if it's mushy and brittle, then you've got 99 problems and your dying plant is one of them." Especially if the roots were the same as well. Uh huh.

Plant healing, by the way? Grayson wasn't sure how he felt about that just yet.

Thornton sat, carefully taking notes. Sick plants. He thought about the time his mother's roses had begun to wilt... what had it been about them? He bit his lip as he listened to his classmates' answers.

They all seemed to make sense, and so he jotted them down, doodling a leaf or two in the margins. He.. had some strange feeling that he'd been in the greenhouses recently, but wasn't exactly sure why. His stomach felt upset, like the memory was a bad one.

Swallowing hard and grimacing, he set down his quill. Taking a deep, steadying breath, he closed his eyes. Counting to 10, he opened his eyes. There. Stomach settled.

Raising his hand, he offered a thought. "My mum's roses got this black fungus on them once. So, things like spots or a different texture?"

Pinocchio listened to the puppetmaster and heard a question. He thought he'd add something for the discussion. How about if they don't like songs? Maybe they don't play much. Papa Gepetto likes to play his fiddle for the plants we have at home and they sort of lean in like they are dancing. Sick ones wouldn't dance I don't think.

How to know whether a plant is sick...hmmm. Well there were a couple of ways that Cyprien thought of. Raising his hand Cyprien answered "There are multiple ways to identify whether a plant is sick. Depending on the plant it could be the coloring, there could be spots, it could look wilted from to much sun or it could be over watered?" Cyprien wasn't completely sure those were the correct answers or even all of them but those were the only ones that he could think of.

Unlike this sleepy head. Wasn't she always sleepy? Or was that his memory having one mental image of the sleepy ones and it was this girl. "Hello," He greeted her back.

Well, at least they weren't asking him about his day that hasn't started yet. Improvement. "All is good, Miss Mcgee," He nodded at the young lady.

"Hello, Miss Cooper," He greeted the second-year. Ravenclaws always looked alert and refreshed. That was good, if only all the students were like that in that aspect.

"Hello to you, Miss Duchannes," He told the Gryffindor. Unlike most of her house mates, this one proved to be quiet and calm. Very appreciated traits in the world of Walton.

.....

Speaking of the Gryffindors.

Andrew's eye cut to the LOUD new comer. Everyone so far entered quietly and none shouted. This one here seemed to feel the need to make an entrance. And it usually was a good student who kept up with lessons and all. "Mister Atreyu," The man said with a sigh. "Please remain quiet until the lesson starts." A headache was starting to happen. "And..." He glanced at the space before the boy. "Put those things back where they came from," Did Andrew look like a Professor who would offer tea to the students during class?

Did they not know how to be moderate? The Gryffindors. They were either super hyper and talking loudly or falling asleep right here before him. Andrew waved his wand and a very thin line of water squirted out the tip of his wand, enough to splash the boy's face but not to drench him or his clothes.

No sleeping in his lesson.

"Good morning," He told the newst Gryffindor to arrive. At least this one looked awake.

"Good morning, Mister Rehman," He said to the prefect who seemed to have gotten immediately busy with other classmates. He supposed they could socialize a bit until the rest of class arrived.

Huh?

What was with the kids?

The odd things they said and did never stopped nor did they cease to amaze him and have him wonder about this entire generation. He watched the girl for a bit making sure she was going to smoothly slip into a chair without trouble. She looked ... .weird.

"Hello," He said with his eyes fixed on the Gryffindor the moment she entered. What was this one going to do? Oh, nothing really. Good. One less to worry about.

A very excited one it seemed. Andrew liked to see students excited for knowledge and he so hoped that this was the case with this one. "Good morning, Miss Bayless," He nodded at the girl.

Someone didn't get their beauty sleep. Andrew watched the Slytherin as he entered and the reaction to the lack of plants. He was not the first to express that, although no one did out loud. "Good morning, Mister Whitlock," Hopefully the boy hasn't earned more enemies who were going to set him on fire.

The second the Head Girl set a foot inside the Greenhouse, the man was alerted. Although, she seemed to have been normal the past couple of lessons he always has that feeling that she was up to something. The passwords to the dangerous Greenhouses were being changed like everyday. "Good morning, Miss Cambridge," Or so he hoped it would be.

SIGH!

Why did the Gryffindor think that it was his duty to entertain the others before the class started? MH? This was not a place to have fun. This was a place to learn. And if someone felt like having fun in the process QUIETLY it was totally their own personal case. As long as Walton was not disturbed with the fun. And now he was.

He moved from where he stood and walked over to the LOUD Gryffindor. "Save that for your free time," Or Astronomy lesson, eh, who cares.

Well, clearly not all the Ravenclaws were refreshed and ready for knowledge at this hour of the day. A proof just walked inside the Greenhouse. "Morning," He said drawing out his wand and waving it so that a few drops of water splashed the boy's face. Much fewer than the drops directed at the Gryffindor for many reasons.

Again, no sleeping in his lesson.

"Good morning, Mister Tempus." Andrew nodded at the fifth-year. It was pleasant to see the dedicated students. Always was. At least he knew that whatever was going to be said in the lesson someone would be understanding.

Andrew's eyes automatically narrowed at the boy when he entered. The other Tarzan arrived. SQUINT,

"Mister Barrington," he nodded at the kid. Yeah, it wasn't hard to figure out someone's name. Students lists and all.

Walton did not even know what the kids were talking about. He was just grateful that the boy entered quietly and without a scene. GOOD.

"Good morning, Miss Andrews," He liked the girl's lastname. Heh.

"Hello, Mister Lecium," He told the boy who too was sleepy. But his eyes were open. So no splashing him with water.

Another one who didn't look too pleased with having to be up early. But at least, he too didn't decide to continue his sleep on the table. "Good morning, Mister Hensley," That was his name, right? Andrew totes nailed the names thing. How awesome was he?

The enthusiastic of them all arrived. Like the Head Girl, Andrew had gotten used accustomed to being on alert when it came to her but she proved to be not a threat to his beloved Greenhouses when she helped him in the Greenhouses. "Hello, Miss Kettleburn," He nodded at her. And did he have anything cool hidden? Hmm. He had no idea if today's lesson's topic would be to the students' liking. He'd find out soon enough.

"Hi, Miss McAlistor," He greeted the Hufflepuff who, too, didn't choose a chair yet. He supposed it was okay since no harm was being done. Yet. He was watching.

"Hello, Mister Bay," He told the Prefect. Who seemed in a need to go to the healer. Andrew casually shuffled away.

"Hello, Miss Montgomery," He told the girl who was watching her surroundings quite closely.

The little girl seemed to have a lot of acquaintances since she had to stop by half the class to say hi and wave before she settled in a chair and greeted HIM. His turn did come after all. "Good day to you, Miss Wojack," Nod. Nod

"Hello, Miss Banner," He greeted the Slytherin. And as for her question, he paused thinking of an answer or actually thinking whether to speak his answer. Which was straightforward, honest and no? But the girl seemed to have gotten to a chair eventually so yeah. Moving on.

The Prefect looked quite pleased with herself. Was it because she made it to the Greenhouse? Heh. He certainly hoped not. "Good day, Miss Wayne," A nod for her.

Another student who seemed to pay extra attention to the subject even outside lessons and aside from homework. A very appreciated thing. "Good morning, Miss Janvier," he nodded. And yes, he knew. He almost always did.

Andrew watched the Ravenclaw choose a chair closest to the door. Hm. The Herbologist could not fathom out the boy's expression. He certainly was not excited or that bothered by the lack of plants. But Walton could be wrong, he was not a pro at reading people after all.

Mister Adair, too, chose a chair close to the door. Whatever the reason was. At least they were being quiet.

"Good morning, Miss Brown," He nodded at the girl who soon occupied a chair next to Mister Tempus. They were one of the people Walton didn't feel the need to watch every second.

Another sleepy head. Andrew's wand was all ready to splash the boy but the Gryffindor did not close his eyes and seemed to be battling to stay awake. Good warrior, right here. "Good morning, Zeke," He replied to the boy walking over to him and lightly tapping the table.

Wakey Wakey!

The Slytherin prefect got a nod. "Good morning, Mister Mordaunt," And he took residence next to Lover Boy.

Walking over to the entrance, Andrew poked his head outside to see if anyone was on their way in. He saw no one and took that as a sign that anyone who wanted to come had already done so. Time to start.

"Good morning, everyone," He addressed the class as he started tp slowly walking around the long table behind the students' chairs.

"In today's lesson, we won't be learning about one particular plant." He said keeping his eyes on the ground where he stepped as he walked round and round the table. "We're going to be learning how to deal with any sick plant in general, mainly mundane plants. We will learn to identify the signs of sickness, heal the sick plants and save those that are close to dying. And surely learn when it is too late to save a plant." He paused letting it all sink in since a good number of them seemed to take time to get their brains to function. And there he was considering starting the next lesson at 7 in the morning.

"So, in your own words, how do you know a plant is sick or is close to dying or unwell in general?" He asked after returning to the further end of the table where he stood earlier. It provided a very good view of everyone.

ooc: Class has officially started. Do not post your charrie arriving late unless you want them to be punished. Next post will be in about 20 hours depending on how many responses I get. =)

Yes, professor. Gabriel Banner did have eyes on the door...and if anyone started acting insane...or if anything resembling a dangerous creature showed up, he was GONE.

...but....for now....notes.

Doing the notebook thing that Gabes did best, he raised his hand...because he had a good answer and wanted to share. No one had mentioned the smell....

"In some plants, there'll be a very pungent smell. Like wet rot and decay."

"Hey, Justine!" Giving her friend a smile, Lux wondered what was up with the cat ears and tail, but didn't get the chance to ask. Class was starting, so it was time to wake up. It wasn't her fault she was sleepy; she hadn't gotten a proper sleep the night before!

Rubbing her eyes, she listened to Professor Walton. It kinda sucked that they would not be working with the plants directly, but this could still prove to be an interesting lesson. Raising her hand, she said, "I think the leaves turn brown and dry and the plant looks droopy."

One particular plant? But he wasn't going to tell them which? THAT seemed like a tease, and Soph eyed Walton. Why would he bring it up and not tell them which one, especially when there was no plant in sight? Ohhhh the suspense.

Hmm... lots of people covered distinct physical signs of a sick plant, from color to wilting... and Soph raised a hand, her expression thoughtful, as she added her own thoughts, "I think you can tell by its growth if it's sick or not. I mean, that's not something that you can always SEE right away, it'd be something y'might notice over time, but sick or dying plants aren't gonna grow as well or abundantly if something's wrong, and they might be stunted in its growth cycle - like, flowers might not even start to bloom or fruits might not grow from the flowers if they're supposed to and the plant can just be like... stuck when it SHOULD be growing," she suddenly realized she might be explaining too much, but she couldn't stop, "OR it might just not be growing and developing through its cycle at the rate it should be, like if it's a seasonal plant or whatever, it might not be on track from what it might've been annually in previous years or whatever."

And then she smiled and sat back in her chair just a little sheepishly. Done talking. Yep.

She grinned back at Lux, and was about to speak with her, but the class had begun already and though in any other class should would have kept right on, Justine was eager to stay on Wallton's good side.

Well, Justine had intended on answering the fairly simply question, but before she could even raise her hand the other students had all clamored forth to give their two sickles, no, that was alright, they could go on and clamor, Justine would answer the next question.

In the mean time she sat back in her chair, crossed her legs and watched Professor Walton, or er, listened to this very interesting lesson.

Zahra cracked up at this kid.

"This kid, I don't know what he's on about, but that's what my brother would say too. He'd say you ASK a plant if they're feeling sick and if you listen, they'll talk. I swear, Professor, my brother is in a relationship with plants. He totally sings to his flowers. AS FOR ME.... I'd do the Pig Test on a plant. If my Pig won't eat it, then it's DEFINITELY a sick plant 'cause Pig will eat anything. Probably works for other animals, too? If animals are avoiding a plant, maybe it's got the rot."

How in the world would Dot know if a plant was sick? Circe knew that Dot wasn't a Healer or anything, especially not a plant Healer. If she couldn't tell if a person was sick unless they puking on their shoes... did plants puke?

No. No they did not.

Hmph. Dot raised her hand anyway. "Maybe if they start to do like this...?" Dot leaned waaaaay over. Almost fell out of her seat. "Go droopy and sad."

When can you tell that a plant is sick or dying? Well, "Doesn't it usually start to wilt? Like, the flower or plants would, instead of being nice and straight and up, be drooping, facing the ground. That's usually a sign of it either being in a condition too dry, I think, or that its not receiving much water." That's far as he knew. And he just wouldn't be giving out guesses here. No point to it. So the guy just watched everyone else and what they had to say.

Adi grinned and was about to set Gus down in the teapot when Professor Plants spoke up to Benny.

"Professor, it's not his fault. Something's wrong with him,''
the Hufflepuff explained before turning to his bestie. "Pipe it down. Come on, put those back in your bag.'' He slid the teapot, cup and saucer back into the Lion's bag. "But you can keep your dormouse in your pocket.'' He held out Gus for Benny to take. "We'll answer your riddles later and have a tea party, too.'' Because the lesson was underway.

The fourth year raised his hand. "If the plant's leaves have gone all droopy and dry then start to fall off, Professor.''

The Mad Hatter didn't register the name at first, but the man was starring right at him as he spoke and he clearly wasn't pleased. Atreyu...that name had been used with him before...hadn't it? He didn't quite remember but he didn't like the tone that was being used, it reminded him of BAAAAAD things. So no tea? "You sure?" he asked quietly.

But then the man reacted to him trying to tell someone a riddle and it seemed to make things worse. The man was even coming over to him and he found himself loosing his voice for the moment.

EEK...he hadn't stumbled upon one of the Queen of Heart's henchman...had he?

"Okay..." he mumbled, absently reaching for Dormouse to protect him but Sir had beaten him to it. Speaking of Sir, the boy was speaking in his defense. Nothing wrong but a bit of crazy he was told. But then who wasn't a bit mad about here? Well maybe the man was a little worse for where when he didn't want tea anywhere around.

His tea stuffs packed up, the Hatter bit back a chuckle as he took hold of Dormouse again and meekly nodded. Tea party and riddles later...when it was safe to do so. "In here you go..." he said quietly as he slipped his companion into his robe pocket. As for the question on plants, he remained quiet.

Oh he so did. He just didn't know it yet.

Ruby stuck her hand up.

"I would ask someone with the right expertise, especially if I wasn't sure. Like you professor. I would ask you to come and... examine my plants." She smiled sweetly and then glanced across the table at certain boys. Were they experts at examining plants? Because they could come too.

One minute he was simply resting his eyes and the next minute he was being ATTACKED. By RAIN. Or something. Head jerking up Kyroh glanced around and then up before yawning.
So it wasn't really raining? Weird....

It was a good thing that the mysterious ran had come though because Professor Serious I-Love-Plants started talking.

How'd he know a plant was sick?

Was that a trick question?

His brows furrowed together slightly before a hand went up. "It will tell you sir."

curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog

Healing dying plants? Oh man. This class was going to dragggg, wasn't it? Still, Caleb knew he had to participate - especially since he kind of didn't remember doing the homework for this class. Whoops. Way to start off on the wrong foot with the new guy, Newell. Sigh.

He raised his hand. "Well, they'll probably lose their petals and stuff. Or their leaves," he said. Saying they were going to turn brown or would turn droopy was the easy answer.

Even though Zander had purposely isolated himself from most of the others in class, he was actually quite relieved when he saw Ethan heading over. You know, friends actually made Herbology a little more bearably. Especially that first lesson where Grayson came over. Really, the older Slytherin was probably the only reason why Zander had even participated that lesson. Then there was that whole fire thing too, so that kept him on his toes as well.

But either way, Zander gave Ethan a half hearted smile, and returned that sup nod, with the best one he could do. Merlin, his nodding skills definitely needed more work. Maybe he could ask Grayson for lessons or something one day, that guy was like a professional. Right, anyways. Was it just him, or was Ethan not acting like his usual care-free self? Did the Slytherin hate Professor Grumps too?

Turning his attention to the horrible man, Zander's small smile from before had vanished again. That stupid voice. It was a constant reminder of how he wasn't good enough. How he was a "disgrace" to his house. "The plant will be unwell if you don't treat it with the proper nurturing, care, and respect that a herbologist ought to treat his plants with," his eyes slightly narrowed as he spoke. "So you'll know if it's unwell if you treat it in a way that it shouldn't be treated. 'Cause even though you have more power than the plant, it doesn't mean that the plant hasn't got feelings. They don't deserve to be undermined." Ahem. He was totally talking about the plants here people. No hidden meanings what-so-ever *whistles*.

Sitting by Dot was Dima's favorite thing on any REGULAR day of the week, but it was kind of hard to be excited about his spot right then. This time of day was not one when any living thing should have been awake, and the second year was fighting a raging battle against his eyelids while the professor began the lesson. Sick pl... wha?

He leaned his head on Dot's shoulder and tried not to look dead himself as he answered.

"When it coughs? Do plants cough? EVERYTHING dies when it coughs."

Nailed it.

Did that boy have parts of a tea set?

And then Walton was speaking and it was time to focus on the lesson, something Toby seldom ever had a problem with when it came to Herbology. He started writing things down at once, under the heading Sick Plants. This could get sad, and he knew it, because talking about sick plants would inevitably mean talking about dying and dead plants, and that started a whole 'nother thought spiral. But if he was at all worried about that so far, Toby didn't show it at all, just kept a neutral-bordering-on-pleasant expression as he twiddled his quill in his fingers, thinking.

Eventually, the Hufflepuff raised his hand.

"Well, sometimes you can just tell," he began, still quill-twirling. "Like with a human or animal, when you know something's wrong but you can't pinpoint why? You can just... feel it. It's the same with plants. For some people, I mean. I suppose." Maybe? "Sometimes you can tell from the way they look. Some plants get blights, or leaf spots, when they're sick."

Aaaaand that was probably enough; wouldn't want to start rambling.

Next to arrive was Jasmine's scavenger hunt partner. What a good time that was. "Hi Eden. All is well. How are things going with you?" She smiled as her fellow Claw sat near her. Eden was a lot of fun and Jasmine really enjoyed working with her.

SPOILER!!: Maddie
QUOTE=TakemetotheBurrow;11674783]This was different.

Maddie slipped inside of the greenhouse and raised her eyebrows at the setup. What interested her most, though, was the lack of plant life. She did a slow turn so that she could cover all areas of the space but could find no hints of what they might be doing. A mystery, then? Challenge accepted.

Sliding into a seat by Eden of the garden variety, the second year smiled at her and Jazzy. She then focused her attention on the man in charge. "Hello Professor." A polite smile followed the greeting and then Maddie was busy organizing her things.

Jasmine saw her other young housemate smile in her direction. Jasmine smiled back at Maddie Coop and gave her a little wave. It looked like the Ravenclaw girls were out in full force today. That was good.

SPOILER!!: Adi
QUOTE=FearlessLeader19;11674816]Another early morning lesson. As he had been for the last few, Adi came very much wide awake. Even his stomach was all fed. Just one thing was missing and he had to see Benny about that.

Adi stepped into the Greenhouse, immediately noticing the furniture arrangement. He also noted there was nothing on the tables. Hmmm. He spotted Professor Plants. "Good Morning, Professor.'' A cheerful grin for you. And waves for Lux and Jasmine.

Aha! There was the person he needed to talk to. Adi approached Benny. What? Benny was going to be starting a tea party? Adi noticed AJ too. "Hey, AJ.'' He smiled at his girlfriend before looking at Benny again. "Benny, do you still have Gus? I mean your dormouse.'' he asked as he dropped his bag onto the seat next to his bestie. And could Adi see him? He had been quite worried about his toady. Usually Gus would be in his pocket during class time but he had failed to locate him. Benny had been the last one to see him. Guster was a dormouse according to the other boy.
Ahh, her buddy Adi. He was always so pleasant and friendly. Jasmine returned his wave and smiled at him as he went by.

SPOILER!!: Bay
QUOTE=Grrr..Meow;11675117]Coming into the class room Bay instantly spotted his friends but of course he needed to say hello first.. "hello Professor" he said nicely as he quickly went to go sit near his awesome girlfriend and his best mates.. "hey guys" he said while finding that the seat behind Lux was free.

Putting his bag down he smiled at his friends, "hey Jasmine…hows everything going?" he asked her because you know.. she knows how he is doing as well.. and then "acccchhhooooo" he sneezed really loudly as he covered his face to block it from going any where. "excuse me" he's been feeling a little off the past few days maybe he was getting the flu?? maybe it would be a good time after class to go see the healer?
Jasmine saw Bay as he came over near her. "Hi Bay. Everything's going well so far. How about you?" Just then Bay let out a big sneeze. "Are you OK? I hope you're not coming down with something." It was that time of year. Hopefully Bay would be fine.

Then Professor Walton called the class to order. It was time to begin. Jasmine was actually very interested in what they would be learning today. Although she was a little disappointed about not getting to work with the plants directly. When the first question was posed, Jasmine raised her hand.

Sometimes when plants are sick, they will have white or yellow spots on them. Jasmine knew this to be true because she had seen a few sick and dying plants in her day.
Sick plants. This class was made for her sister. Too bad Angel decided not to sit with them. That was something that she was going to have to worry about later. She shrugged at his good morning, not sure what was so great about waking up to no candy for another morning and no wand of her own either. One day Airey would want his wand back and she would understand because she shared the same sentiment about hers.

Lex shifted a bit in her seat, trying to push away the dreadful feeling that this would be a mundane class. Potions had been enough with all its theory. Only good thing about it was the end where the troll showed up but that was short lived. Idly, she glanced around the greenhouse wondering if something would be kind enough to crash this lesson as well. They could wait til the end like before but Merlin let something happen.

The Gryffindor's attention snapped back to the Professor at his question. Sick plants? She didn't think she liked where this was going. "If their leaves start falling off and they shrivel and wither then you aren't doing a very good job." There. That's who you know.

"Professor, it's not his fault. Something's wrong with him,''
the Hufflepuff explained before turning to his bestie. "Pipe it down. Come on, put those back in your bag.'' He slid the teapot, cup and saucer back into the Lion's bag. The fourth year raised his hand. "If the plant's leaves have gone all droopy and dry then start to fall off, Professor.''

How can you tell if a plant is sick and/or close to dying?
Wilted foliage
Soggy roots
Rotten spots in the leaves and stem
Pungent odors

Rubbing her eyes, she listened to Professor Walton. It kinda sucked that they would not be working with the plants directly, but this could still prove to be an interesting lesson. Raising her hand, she said, "I think the leaves turn brown and dry and the plant looks droopy."

"Good thinking. But you also need to be able to tell when something is wrong." He told the Slytherin girl. That after all why this subject existed.

Hm. A very different answer than the others. But that wasn't a bad thing at all. "That is not incorrect," He said. "Although it is better not to risk any creatures life in the process," Because some creatures weren't all that good at picking up on changes.

Yep.
This particular answer sparked his attention a lot that he had to pause his walking and look at the Ravenclaw. "Very good point. We will be elaborating on that in a bit." He said then started walking round again.

"Also wrong," He told the other Ravenclaw. How unexpected from the eagles.

Clearing his throat, Andrew stood at the further end of the table closer to the entrance. Where Banner, Adair and Mordaunt sat. "What you all said is correct." He said addressing the class. " Plants do not have vital signs to be checked like humans do. But we can tell whether a plant is healthy or not by inspecting its leaves, roots, stems or even its general appearance. Whether it's tilting towards one side too much in an unusual way. The smell, too, like Mister Banner mentioned." Which was what they just said. But it would not hurt to gather it all and make sure everyone heard everything.

"When it comes to the leaves; you're looking for a change of color, like leaves turning yellow or brown or normal green but with small spots of white or even black. But it's not only the colour that can tell us something is wrong. The structure is very important as well. Some leaves might be curled up or limp or might have small holes in them. All of these are signs that there's something wrong." He paused allowing time for them to take it it. " That's concerning the leaves. As for the roots and stems it's very important to check that they are flexible and firm. They shouldn't snap when they're bent . The colour of the stems is important to check as well, although it is not as clear as the colour of the leaves. But a shade of green must be visible. " He was going to show them examples of course. But for now, he was going to stick with the theoretical. They'll soon get the chance to see for themselves.

"For example; if you see a plant with yellow-ish and limp leaves but with flexible and greenish stems it means the plant can still be healed. Whereas if you see plant with brittle roots and brown stems then the plant is dead and there is nothing you can do about it." Sad but that was LIFE!

Pulling his wand out, Walton walked over to where the blackboard was and tapped it with his wand.
