Useful spells! Yes! The perfect first lesson is always one that will help you in real life no matter what. Ellowyn went over to a particularly rumpled up shirt on the floor. Tapping it carefully and saying in a clear voice "Plic Vestimenta."
The shirt slowly rose and started folding itself, hooray! The only problem was the left sleeve had stuck itself out and refused to fold with the other. She cast it for the third time and the sleeve had slowly crept in with the other. Yes!

FireboltAvis88 05-07-2012 03:28 AM

Alyssa listened as as Professoe told them the spells that they would be using and even though she wouldn't be using the folding spell, she still wrote it down in her journal. Now to try out the spell they were supposed to use to clean the room. She picked up a broom and resisted the urge to say 'UP' which is what she usually did with a broom.

However, today was not the for flying, especially in Charms class!! So she took out her wand and practiced the wand movements. Swish and a clockwise twirl of her wand. Once she was sure of the movements, she proceeded to mouth the words of the spell,"Liberum Arbitrium.....Liberum Arbitrium...Liberum Arbitrium". Once she was familiar with the words, she decided that it was time for to actually cast the spell.

Pointing her wand and with a swish and a clockwise twirl of her wand she said," ,"Liberum Arbitrium"....and waited for the broom to start doing its thing but nothing happened. "WHA..."Alyssa said to herself. She had expected the spell to work. It wasn't like she hadn't failed casting a spell in the past, but she could see the other students successfully doing it and figured that she wouldn't have problems too. But obviously she was wrong. Alyssa suspected that this wouldn't be the last time that she failed at something this term.

Sighing sadly, Alyssa concentrated harder on what she wanted to do and when she was ready, she pointed her wand at the broom and with a swish and clockwise twirl of her wand, said the words,"Liberum Arbitrium". This time the broom stood up but it's movements were sluggish and it wasn't even sweeping like it should have been doing. Alyssa sighed again. She would have to try casting the spell again.

"We'll be looking at two spells, they are Plic Vestimenta, which is the spell to fold and Liberum Arbitrium which is a motor spell. Third years will be working with the folding spells and the older students will be working with the motor spells."

She moved to the basket and pulled out a shirt. "Pay attention." She gave the shirt a gentle tap on the shirt and said Plic Vestimenta" The shirt quickly folded itself. She smiled at the neatly folded shirt. "See? Very simple." She moved across the room to the brooms. "Now this spell, you need to say the name of the object you are charming. Like this:Liberum Arbitrium Broom. Swish and clockwise twirl of the wand." She proceeded to do as she instructed and the broom sprung into action, sweeping on it's on free will."You can use this on any cleaning instrument."

She stepped aside. "Now everyone take turns practicing. Older students there are enough brooms for everyone to practice on and enough clothing pieces for the younger ones."

Plic Vest-- wait, what did say? Adanna listened to the students around her and tried to pick up the word.
Vesti... Vestimen... Vestimenta!
She ran the word a few times over in her head, then tapped the shirt nearest to her.
"Plic Vestimenta!"

The shirt folded itself, but not neatly enough. It came loose at once.
Um. Maybe she should try again.

Tap. "Plic Vestimenta!" she said again, with more force in her voice.
Well... it wasn't fantastic, but it was better.
Although, she found this more of a hassle than just folding the clothes by hand. It really didn't take long at all to do them.
Oh well.

Allie was slightly nervous, it was the first lesson in which she was finally getting the chance to use her wand. She moved forward and stuck her wand out to a long sleeved shirt that looked like it was in dire need of a good ironing. Letting out a deep breath she said the spell with confidence. "Plic Vestimenta".

The eleven year old stood there, waiting for it to do something. But nothing, not even a little twitch in the fabric. Maybe I need to believe in it... she thought. taking a few deep breaths, Allie pointed her wand again at the shirt, ready to do the spell successfully. "Plic Vestimenta."

To her amazement, the shirt began to fold itself. "Yes!" Allie said to herself, pleased that she had gotten the spell to work after all. Before she knew it she could be folding her clothes in no time.

SilverDragon 05-07-2012 04:11 AM

"Plic Vestimenta...Plic Vestimenta." After Silvia felt she had the incantation down, she figured it was time to try it out. The wand movement was simple, so it really didn't require any practice. She pulled out her wand and closed her eyes for a moment, imagining the shirt folding before her. Then she opened her eyes and took a deep breath. "Plic Vestimenta!" she said as she tapped the shirt with her wand. Well, something happened. The shirt moved and wiggled a bit on its own, as if it were trying to fold itself but couldn't quite muster all the energy it needed to do so. Not bad for a first try though, she thought. She should be able to master it before class ended without much trouble.

Silvia paused for a moment to look around. It seemed that some of the older students were starting to get their brooms sweeping. She hoped that the professor would let them switch later on so the younger students could try the sweeping spell. If not, she'd have to try to remember it and try it out by herself later. Anyways, back to work.

FireboltAvis88 05-07-2012 04:15 AM

Alyssa sat on the floor feeling discouraged as she looked at the other students in her group successfully get their spell to work. As she watched them casting the spell, it suddenly dawned on her why her's didn't work. She had left out the word "Broom" in her spell. She smacked the side of her head with her hand, before getting up from her sitting position and walked over the broom that was back on it's lying position on the floor. The fact that the broom actually moved her little in her second attempt was a miracle from her point of view. It shouldn't have worked at all.

So Alyssa attempted to cast the spell again. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, she concentrated on the spell and what she wanted it to do. Once she was ready, she took out her wand, swished and twirled it clockwise and said,"Liberum Arbitrium Broom".

This time the broom stood straight up and started sweeping. Alyssa almost whooped aloud with joy but she knew that she had to continue concentrating on the spell as the broom worked its 'magic'. It swept from side to side and Alyssa walked alongside it carrying a dust pan and gathering the dust as the broom swept it to the side. Then it happened!!!

When the broom reached the end of the room, it didn't turn around and head back in the direction it had come from. It kept hitting the wall like it didn't know that it had to stop and turn around. Alyssa quickly ran to it and pointing her wand at it, said "Finite" to end the spell. Now all she had to do was learn to better control the movements of the broom. Time for another attempt at casting the spell.

Okay.. now Ira knew what charms discipline meant. Noting it down, she then followed Professor's instructions and proceeded to the back of the classroom and stood on the right. What was behind that maroon curtain?

And then it opened, revealing a messy bedroom. And so, they were going to learn spells to aid cleaning. It was like this class was made especially for Ira. Because Ira's room was a mess, a total mess! But cleaning up and doing that tidying up was a boring chore.

Ira paid attention as Professor explained the spell. Being a third year, she was going to working with the folding spell. Which was Plic Vesti..menta. This was cool. Actually very much good. Too sad that magic wasn't allowed to be used in summer. Otherwise, she would never again would have needed t get scolded by her mother for messing up her room and closet.

Frowning a bit, Ira first practiced on pronouncing the spell correctly. Plic Vestimenat.. plic Vestimenta.. Plic almost sounded like Click. Plic Vesti..menta. Yup, that was it. A tap and Plic Vestimenta.

Going forward she took one of the clothes, and tapped it lightly as shown and muttered the spell. Uh? Nope, it didn't fold itself. Just little twitch. The shirt's sleeves just rose up a bit and then fell back down.

Hey Ju 05-07-2012 04:31 AM

Sophie quickly unfolded the shirt, held it up and dropped it. There, now it was all messy and crumpled again. She was ready for her spell to wooooork this time!

Stare. She needed to concentrate more! She stared at the shirt for a long while, and when she thought she was ready, she pointed her wand at it, tapping it gently. "Plic Vestimenta!" She said frowning and not putting her wand down. Still staring hard. "Work work work!" She thought as the shirt moved around once again as if it was alive.

The movements were getting slower as the shirt folded itself and Sophie was almost cheering for it to go on at the end. But at least she had gotten it almost perfectly now!

Phew! That was actually the hardest spell she had tried since she came to Hogwarts!

Enigma 05-07-2012 04:35 AM

Her first attempt hadn't been good. Hopefully she would be able to do it right the second time?

Sighing, she repeated the spell.

A tap, and the spell. Yay! This time, the shirt did fold itself. But not perfectly. It just sort of folded the way Ira folded her clothes by hand. Somewhat crumpled still. She opened up the shirt again, and cast the spell again.

Ah! Finally, the shirt folded itself nicely. This spell sure would be very useful. She decided to practice just once more, so she opened up the shirt again and recast the spell. And this time too, it folded correctly. Yes! She was done!

Yourenodaisy 05-07-2012 04:36 AM

These pants were not folding! Why weren't they folding? Gritting his teeth, He jabbed the shorts and practically shouted "Plic Vestimenta" This time, the pants moved a little more. The folded themselves in half, how cool. Now he just needed to get the things to fold themselves like the professor had. Repeating the motion and volume he repeated the incantation "Plic Vestimenta"and the pants folded in half once more.

Standing next to the oldies, the Ravenclaw made sure to stand slightly to the back where she couldn't just block someone's view. Disadvantage of being taller than average maybe. Not that she cared, it just gave her an overwhelming factor. Heh. She had her full attention with the teacher, her incantation and wand movement so that when they were off to practice, Louisa found that she was actually playing with her hair subtly the whole time.

:whaa:

She needed a haircut. And something to fix this good mood. It was not Louisa-ish.

Moving on. The sixth year headed forward to stand before one of the brooms, and after waiting a minute or two for the other students to get their own spot to practice, Louisa grabbed her wand tightly in her hand and murmured, "Liberum Arbitrium Broom.. Liberum Arbitrium Broom.. Liberum Arbitrium Broom.. Liberum Arbitrium Broom.." without wand movements.

Her eyes found this one broom that looked good enough. "Okay, let's get this straight.." she swished her wand, "Liberum..." and moved it clockwisely, "... Arbitrium Broom" The broom jerked a few times before starting to sweep... normally.

Louisa smiled at this.

Zhenya listened to the spell, and went to find a big piece of clothing to practice on. That's right - a big piece. She found a rather long and delicate coat and decided THAT was her piece. She put it in front of her, got her wand out and pointed it at the coat, then tapping it she said "Plic Vestimenta," and watched as the coat folded itself in half.

That's all? It just folded itself in... half? No, she obviously needed to try again!

Tazzie 05-07-2012 04:55 AM

No one. No one was helping her. No one was telling her the incantation. Gaaah, it seemed like she would just have to go and ask Professor Bellaire then.. Hunching back, she turned and was about to walk to where the new Charms Professor was when she heard a boy shouting just beside her.

PLIC VESTIMENTA?

She stared at the boy, who was in Hufflepuff robes. So that was the incantation? Immediately, she tried her hardest to keep that plastered on her mind and she repeated it so she won't forget it again. "Plic Vestimenta. Plic Vestimenta.Plic Vestimenta.Plic Vestimenta.Plic Vestimenta.Plic Vestimenta.Plic Vestimenta.Plic Vestimenta."

SIGH.

Why, thank you little boy. With much more better vibes, she shuffled back to her place, and pulled out her wand from her amethyst colored holster. Time for some practice!

A bedroom looking like this? Pfft, no, Ariana's bedroom was beautifully pristine, with sparkling floors and neatly organised shelves- yeah okay never mind, the professor was right anyway.

Ariana focused in on a broom and pointed her wand. "Li-ber-i-um Ar-bi-tri-um Broom," she said, sounding out the spell. Much to her chagrin, nothing happened, until she remembered that she was supposed to do a movement too. Swish and twirl, right?

"Liberium Arbitrium Broom," she said again, this time giving her wand a flourish and then twirling it in a circle to her left. The broom in front of her raised up in the air, which Ariana watched with delight, but then it flew violently toward her and crashed to the ground with a loud clatter.

Whoops.

The professor had said clockwise, hadn't she. Yes, now Ariana was sure she had.

Sigh.

SilverDragon 05-07-2012 05:09 AM

Silvia once again took a deep breath and concentrated on the shirt in her left hand. "Plic Vestimenta!" she said with a tap. This time the shirt successfully folded itself...except that not more than three seconds later it came undone. Come on, she thought to herself, you can do this. And mustering up her determination she once more cast the spell. The shirt neatly folded itself and came to rest in her open palm. Much better. She was beginning to get the hang of this.

Stefan 05-07-2012 06:23 AM

Now why can’t he just go and fold shirts? That seemed easier. He eyed the older students and some of them were having a hard time too. “Well, let’s get over this thing.” He said to himself and shrugged. He approached one of the brooms and got his ebony colored wand from his sleeve.

“Liberum Arbitrium, Liberum Arbitrium, say the object after the incantation, swish and clockwise twirl of the wand.” He said to himself as he cleared his throat and tried the spell.

"Liberum Arbitrium Broom!" Aaaand tadaaah! The broom didn’t move.

Stare.

Seriously? They have elves to do the cleaning, right? He frowned as he held on to his wand more tightly. His reasoning, clearly did not help with the spell.

“Come on Mordaunt. Concentrate.” He exhaled and did the incantation again. Usually it helped him execute the spell if he pictures the result of the incantation. In this case, he’d like to see a broom that sweeps the floor. “Liberum Arbitrium Broom!” swish and clockwise twirl of the wand. The broom started to sweep the floor furiously and in just one spot. Mordred tilted his head and wore a confused face. He crossed his arms and tried to think where he went wrong. As if sensing the boys confusion, the broom abruptly stopped and dropped itself in front of him.

“Well, at least it moved.” He thought and shrugged.

Eyeing the broom. “Take two.”

Jessiqua 05-07-2012 06:47 AM

Zhenya was determined to succeed! She picked her wand up again, tapped the coat and said "Plic Vestimenta," and watched it fold in half the other way. WHATWASHAPPENING? She was getting frustrated, even after just 2 attempts. About ready to throw it on the ground and sit down she took a big breath and tried again.

"Plic Vestimenta," she said for the third time, and watched in amazement as the garment folded itself neatly in her arms. It was folded nicely and she smiled proudly.

ChloeeCloverr 05-07-2012 06:48 AM

Brooke furrowed, these words seemed difficult to say. But nonetheless she was gonna have to try it. The blonde placed the item of clothing on the floor before tapping it with her wand and then taking a deep breathe. "Plic Vestimenta." Nothing was happpening, what had she done ?! SHE COULDNT DO ANYTHING. She'd BROKEN it, she was a FAILURE. Feeling slightly defeated she decided to have one more go. Giving the clothing one more tap she said, "Plic Vestimenta..." She said clearly, her eyes widening as the item of clothing began to fold itself. this. was. amazing. "Did I...Did i get it right ?!"

RandomRaven 05-07-2012 07:05 AM

Heh? A bedroom like this? The blonde guy knew that he had a messy bedroom. But at least, his bedroom was quite better than this.

And now, time to practice! Gary was looking forward for this. Studying charm without the practice? That's boring, right? Since he was fifth year, so he practice to charm the broom.

Swish and clockwise twirl He took a deep breath, murmured the incantation correctly then..

First Try

"Liberum Arbitrium Broom." he swished and twirled his wand. And..

Failed.

Heh?

Okay, second try.

"Liberum Arbitrium Broom." he swished and twirled his wand again. He noticed that the broom moved, slowly.

Lollipop! 05-07-2012 07:21 AM

Okay.

Cleaning spells. Cleaning spells. That's what Hogwarts was teaching? She made her way over to the pile and plucked up a cloth, eyes on the floor. Blue sat back at her desk and gave the cloth a tap whispering the (wrong) words, "Pik Vistemanta,"

The edge of the cloth gave a feeble flap before resuming it's stillness. GRRRRRRR. She was a Ravenclaw. She was suppose to be SMART people. This time she would get it. She glance 'round and noticed she was pronoucing the spell wrong. "Plic Vestimenta!" She said more loudly, strongly. Half of the cloth folded while the other stayed still. "Plic Vestimenta!" She said, prodding the cloth and the cloth folded.

Blue beamed at the teacher, looking from the professor to the cloth.

OHMYMERLIN.

SHE HAD DONE MAGIC.

SHE WAS SO MAGIC-KY.

YEAH!!

JeshieRAWR 05-07-2012 07:25 AM

Oh fantastic. They were cleaning this room, but Jade was at least happy they weren't really cleaning it. They just had to move their wands around and it will be clean. Now she hoped it would be that easy as it sounded.

Alright, so the spell is Liberum Arbitrium.

"Liberum Arbitrium, Broom." Jade said, pointing her wand towards the broom.

Nothing happened. Jade tilted her head to the side and quickly sneaked a peek at the boy in front of her who was doing the same spell. Oh, right, she had forgotten to move her wand. Duh.

The seventh year watched closely as the boy did it again and she hoped this time she could get it. She swished her wand and moved it clockwise while saying, "Liberum Arbitrium Broom."

And finally, the broom moved. Thank goodness.

Sectumsempra2016 05-07-2012 07:36 AM

Eric was scared. He hadn't really ever used his wand before. He said the spell a few times to himself to get it right. Plic Vestimenta, Plic Vestimenta, Plic Vestimenta... Oh yes. Got it....

He looked at the jacket... It would be a nice jacket if it weren't so wrinkled. Eric took out his wand, pointed it at the jacket and said "P-Plic V-Vestimenta." Nothing happened... Eric had not expected anything anyways...

The second time trying wasn't much better. Eric managed not to stutter but all the jacket did was twitch a little. Like a jacket spasm.

"Plic Vestimenta!!!" The jacket neatly folded in half. MUAHAHAHA...

sweetpinkpixie 05-07-2012 07:44 AM

Kurumi was still humming along after removing her slightly failed charm attempt on her broom, but the music inside her head had put the Gryffindor in surprisingly good spirits considering everything. Rolling her shoulders again, Kurumi eyed the broom as it leaned against the wall totally and completely lifeless.

Intent...come on Kurumi... intent...

Problem was that Kurumi had a mild fear of brooms ever since the Quidditch match where hers had snapped in half. Snapped in half didn't even begin to cover what had happened to her broom actually. It had been damaged beyond repair... so, no... no more Quidditch for this lion and flying lessons she only went to because Selina made her.

This was much better. A broom, sweeping...cleaning... doing what it was made to do. Yep. This was right and normal.

So, wand at the ready, Kurumi repeated the movement and spoke as clearly as she could, "Liberum Arbitrium Broom!" This time the broom sprung to life, just not as lively as the professor's had, and began to sweep its way across the floor while Kurumi continued to hum. After a few moments, Kurumi got caught up in the moment and began to sort of skip next to the broom as it made its way around the area sweeping.

Could the other students try the other charm as well? Kurumi had to admit that she did sort of enjoy folding laundry when it was there. Doing it by magic might be a pleasant experience.

KP1 05-07-2012 07:49 AM

Derrick looked around. All of the other students were saying the cleaning spell. He took out his wand nervously and looked at the broom. He held out his wand and pointed it at the Broom. He thought long and hard on the spell before saying it.''Liberum Arbitrium''Nothing happened.Derrick sighed and looked around again. All the older students spells were working. Why wasn't his?

Derrick gave an evil glare at the broom and said''Liberum Arbitrium''Then it slightly moved. He smiled and muttered''Thankyou.''

Gabrielle 05-07-2012 08:10 AM

Glenn turned her attention to the shirt she was supposed to be folding. Her mother never used these spells, could never use these spells. She didn't even know they existed. Cleaning spells.

The badger raised her wand and taped the shirt with a little flourish, "Plic Vestimenta!" She fully expected it to fold up right then. Into a neat pile. But no... the right sleeve kind of... twitched though.

C'mon! You're a third year Glenn, this is pathetic. "Plic Vestimenta!" She said with more force, jabbing at the shirt. The shirt flopped on it's side and gave a feeble wiggle. "Pathetic shirt." She muttered, chancing a glance around at the other's progress.

Look. First years were doing better than her. Focus... focus...
