Herbology Lesson One

It was such a nice day outside, the weather was mild, not quite warm but not cold either. Just the way Seren liked it. Unfortunately the lesson wasn’t being held outdoors, no, it was being held in Greenhouse One, where the air was cooler, and the smell of damp soil filled the air.

As you enter the greenhouse the first thing you notice are the stools arranged to the side of the greenhouse by the door, and directly opposite these are stools of a different variety. That’s right, toadstools! While they may look harmless from a distance it’s not wise to get too close to them just yet, after all you wouldn’t want to be sent to the Hospital Wing before the lesson has even started.

Waiting patiently for the students to arrive, Professor Bentley stood by the door to welcome them as they entered; Though she was careful to position herself near the seating area so that she can keep an eye on any mischief making. Standing slightly to the side of the toadstools, was Professor Bentley’s old blackboard, neat and tidy cursive writing slowly appearing on its surface- as if by magic!

A jet of red light shot from her wand and struck the pixie! All right, that's what you get for messing up my hair!

Kat grabbed another toadstool, twisted off the cap, and made her way back towards the box. She ducked and dodged pixies flying at her firing off stunning spells, although they didn't always work the first time and a few pixies got caught in her hair. She finally made it back over to the box and dropped the cap in.

Okay, one more Kat, you can do this!

Okay, lets do this! Kat jumped up and down a few times and made her way back to the toadstools. "Stupefy!" yelled Kat as she flicked her wand at a pixie. It hit, but there were a group of three more than came diving towards Kat's face. "St-stupefy! shrieked Kat but nothing happened. She managed to dodge the first one, but the second latched itself onto her face and the third started pulling her hair. "Ow! Get off me!!"

Kat grabbed the one on her face and threw it off to the side. She threw her head forward, whipping her hair, and the pixie, onto the floor in front of her. Taking advantage of the momentarily stunned pixie Kat grabbed her wand. "Stupefy!" said Kat, flicking her wand at the pixie on the floor in front of her. Uugh, my hair is not going to be happy with me after this.

Kat jumped up after catching her breath and grabbed the nearest toadstool. Twisting the cap off, she darted back over to the box, swatting a few pixies away, and placed it in the box.

Done! Yahoo! Kat beamed with pride as she took a moment to survey the madness that was the greenhouse. Letting out a sigh of relief, she brushed off her robes. She put her wand in its holster and put her gloves back in her bag before she headed for the exit.

"Thank you professor! Today was quite a thrilling experience!" Kat skipped out of the greenhouse, heading towards the Ravenclaw common room.

Class dismissed? Heh, but he was just getting started. No, but seriously Hugo felt like getting out of here with these ruddy pixies. But it wouldn't be fair to leave the last battling with them all. What if Bentley had to deal with these herself? Or did she know of some charm to stop them all? "IMMOBULUS!" he yelled at a small group of pixies flying around, almost getting his bag. Oh no you will NOT. He packed his bag and put it over his shoulder. "Stupefy! Immobulus!" jets of light shot out of his wand, whilst slowly backing away and getting the heck outta here. He had homework to do. "Goodbye, professor Bentley," he smiled at her. "I enjoyed your cla- stupefy!" Another pixie stunned. There now he would go. He was getting soooo sick of these pixies.

Grinning, the puff said, "Alright, You ready Tori?" Approaching her last Toadstool, Em moved her wand to her other hand and thought, Lets just hope those things are at another toadstool. Finally convinced that this toadstool was unoccupied, she leaned down to it and removed the cap. "Got it!" she said turning around to show Tori.

Suddenly, several pixies came flying at her all at once. One flew right into her face, and hit her eye. She could feel one pulling on her towel cape, and there was at least one more biting her ear. Another one had raced down and grabbed the cap she had in her hand. "Tori" she shouted as she tried to remove the pixie that had take up residence on her face.

Ashley still didn't trust himself to use that spell. He'd just been dying to try it since everyone else was doing it, and it seemed easy and effective. Besides, he had a wand. Why should he be tackling these things by hand?
That didn't mean he was going to go around using it more often. He still felt like he should practice more with it first, and he definitely still didn't feel like it would be a good idea to use it too close to people. Maybe the older kids had that kind of control, but he didn't want to be the first one to send a classmate to the hospital wing.

"Alright!" he said with a nod, wand ready anyway. It was still good for physical combat as well. And just that quickly, it was time for some action! Pixie darting up from wherever it had been hiding, Ashley swung his wand at it, which resulted in it just clinging onto his hand and trying to bite through his glove. At least that meant it wasn't bothering anyone else.
And he had gloves on.
This one wasn't going to be fun either, was it? Giving the pixie one of those completely disappointed frowns, he pulled it free and threw it as hard as he could. Sure, it could fly, so that probably wouldn't hurt it, but by the time it found its way back, hopefully Eris would be done. He kept an eye out for it anyway, and any others that may pop up.

India had quietly stood in the back, taking notes...and feeling utterly out of it for a bit - it was odd that she was so cold and her blue and bronze gloves were no match to the cold she was feeling. Stupid cold hands. She hated that.

She wanted nothing more but to have an easy retrieval of the mushroom caps. But no, no that was not going to happen. Stupid Murphy's Law - everything was going wrong.

As she reached her hand out to retrieve one a pixie swooped down and tried to scratch at her. Causing her to jump backwards, almost falling onto the mushroom caps in general. Brilliant. Don't kill the plants.

"Stupefy" she pointed at the darn pixie - it froze in place. There, now, she tried again and successfully pulled the cap off and dropped it into the appropriate box.

They were done? Huh, alright then. Anything to keep the pixies out of her hair. "Stupefy!" she said in passing, pointing at another pixie. "Fun lesson professor!" That was certainly one word for it. But fireing at these pixies was certainly helping her aim, so that was good.
"Immobulus. Stupefy!" Yeah, you pixies better watch out. She was on a freezeing spree!

Stella had almost hoped class was going to be over once the fang extraction was done, but instead they'd merely moved to another part of the greenhouse to discuss even more toadstools, which she'd continued to take notes on as everyone else talked. At least these were cuter than the biting ones, plus they looked way less dangerous. And smelled awesome. Peppermint wasn't exactly her favoritest scent and candy, but that didnt mean it wasn't still good. The pixie part wasn't quite as fun, but she'd deal with it.

Reaching into her bag, she withdrew a few hairpins as they'd been released to start collecting caps and the pixies started flying. Literally. She wasn't about to deal with hairpulling, at least, which was why she twisted her long hair into a semi-messy bun at the back of her head and pinned it there before wading into the fray. She was going to need her wand after all, so she couldn't use it as a hair stick. "Immobulus," she cast as one headed for her gloved hand as she reached for the first toadstool. Taking the time to catch the pixie as it fell, she laid it on the ground carefully before reaching for the toadstool again and twisting the cap off.

"Oh no you don't," she murmured, as she faced off with a second pixie eyeing the cap in her hand. This was hers, or the professor's once she turned it in. "Stupefy!" Another neutralized pixie, and she dodged a few more as she simply slipped the toadstool cap into her cardigan pocket for the time being. Now for another.

Jez advanced towards the toadstools, wand at the ready. A pixie shot out towards her as she approached a toadstool, grinding its teeth menacingly. Jez looked at it calmly, and waved her wand at it. "Stupefy." The pixie dropped like a fly, and Jez quickly retrieved the toadstool's cap. As she was turning around to go drop the cap into the box, two more pixies bombarded her, grabbing her hair and scrabbling at her face, trying to scratch her. Jez screamed in shock and fright, feeling her wand slip from her fingers as she desperately tried to bat the pests away.

Eyeing a particular toastool, that smelled particularly pepperminty, Stella gave up on using her wand for the moment as she simply batted two pixies away from her head as they tried to grasp a stray strand of hair poking out of her twist. Continuing along the way to the toadstool, she made sure her wand was ready in one hand as she reached out with the other to touch the cap. It was almost too perfect to harvest, but she figured if she didn't someone else would. Even if it seemed like there were a lot less students in the greenhouse than before. meaning that they'd left already. Even more fun, since that meant there was also less people for the pixies to target.

And, as she started to twist the cap off, yet another pixie flew straight at her. Rolling her eyes, she tried to get her wand up in time, but it managed to draw a long scratch across one cheek before she batted it away. "Stupefy." Grrr. Swiping the back of her gloved hand across her now faintly stinging cheek, she finished harvesting the cap and stuck it in her pocket along with the first before checking the other glove for blood. There was a tiny bit, but at least it didn't seem bad. She really didn't want to have survived the biting toadstools only to actually get injured by pixies. Something about that just seemed ridiculous.

Shooting a last freezing charm at a few pixies coming her way, Aurora ducked out of the greenhouse. "Thank Salazar... I hate those things!" she muttered.

Having successfully extracted herself from the pixies and dropped the cap into the box, Jez quickly set about getting her second cap. Seeing a path to a toadstool clear of pixies, she dived in and came back triumphantly waving another cap.
Two down, one to go.

Selina's blue eyes caught sight of the small cap that was in the middle of the room. Now that she had zoned in on it she moved through the room ducking past all of the pixies trying to get the cap. Just as she reached the cap she felt something bit her hand. She drew it back in pain and saw a small little Pixie still attached to her hand. Thankfully it wasn't drawing any blood so she yanked the thing off of her hand and threw it across the room. Once it was floating in mid-air she shouted, "Stupefy." Then she grabbed the cap and started to search for her last one.

Janice, who had suffered a pain from the pixies, decided not to go back into the chaotic greenhouse. I wonder how the greenhouse actually looked like before we came in, she thought.

"Thanks for the FUN lesson professor!!!" She said while going out of the greenhouse. A pixie decided to follow her out, and... "IMMOBULUS!!!" The pixie fell down. Pixies should really think about who they're following.

Okay, one last toadstool cap, then I can get out without any more scratches. Hopefully, Stella thought, making sure she was aware of where every pixie she could currently see was. She didn't want to be caught off guard again, even if she really didn't think it likely she wouldn't. Those pixies were sneaky little devils, and it seemed they were really possessive of the pepperminty toadstools. She was going to think of peppermint in a completely different way now. "Immobulus," she cast, as a pixie looked like it was bypassing her and aiming for her pocket and the two caps hidden inside. Maybe it could smell them, although she hoped not. Or at least that the peppermint smell would wear off after not too long. She didn't want her cardigan smelling minty for too long.

Double-checking to make sure the two caps were still inside, she then beelined for another toadstool, Stunning two more pixies that tried to block her way. There was no way she was going to be deterred, and she collapsed onto her knees as she reached for the cap. One twist and she had her third harvest done. Now to just deliver them, and then she could make her escape. Getting back to her feet, she snagged the strap of her bag again as she passed the spot she'd laid it down earlier, then swung it at four pixies zooming toward her. She was not going to be stopped, not when she was already done.

Heading for the box next, and the professor, she gave her a smile even as the scratch on her cheek stung again at the movement. "Here you go Professor Bentley. Three caps," she said, pulling the other two back out of her pocket and dropping them into the box along with the third. "I'm sorry if I might have hit a few pixies a bit too hard." Of course, she wasn't the CoMC professor, but who knew? Maybe they were still her pixies. "Class was certainly...interesting." And another pixie flew her way, as if it was taking its last stand. "Immobulus!" At that, and with another apologetic glance at Professor Bentley, she turned and headed out of the greenhouse and to relative safety. Maybe to get her scratch checked out, too, just in case pixie scratches were something to be concerned about. She didn't think so, but it paid to be careful.

Beatrice stood up and waited for the flood of students to went out. She wanted to talk to Professor Seren about the toadstools. Half-expected, she didn't actually knew she would be interested in Herbology. But since her interest was triggered then that was just a good thing. She looked around, prepared to help those students still struggling with the pixies.

Then approached the Professor. "Err.. Professor Seren. Can I help you with those ?" she said, gesturing the box with the caps inside and at the same time pointing at the either stunned and frozen pixies on the ground.

Jez smiled gratefully at Harvey as she dodged around fallen pixies to get another cap and drop it into the box. That was really helpful! She could see it was helping everyone else too, so she quickly raised her wand. "Stupefy!" An approaching pixie fell to the floor, knocked unconscious. "Immobulus!" For her first try at that spell, it was pretty good. Jez turned her wand on more of them, enjoying herself now. "Immobulus! Immobulus! Immobulus!"
One managed to get through her defences, and grabbed onto the end of her waist-length black plait. Jez screamed with pain as it pulled - hard. She snatched her plait and held up the pixie, fire blazing in her eyes. "IMMOBULUS!"
The pixie froze, and fell off her plait. Jez grinned in spite of herself. "Take that!" she shrieked, enjoying herself immensely.

It was utter MADNESS...Stepping into the Greenhouse, it had been obvious that the Pixies had, indeed, been stirred up. Marilyn tried to dodge them the best she could but there were several already coming her way. Making a Beeline for a patch of toadstool that remained untouched, the blonde tried to work fast.

Of course, this was easier said than done.

She'd successfully cut off one Cap when the biting began. Leveling her wand on the offending Pixie, she shouted Stupify!

Yea, that stopped a grand total of ONE!

...And the friends of that ONE got really angry...

Penny heard Professor Bentley say that if they were they were dismissed...

She liked Herbology alot, but right now she just needed a shower, so she made sure she had all her belongings and made to leave the greenhouse..

"Thanks for a great lesson Professor..... and the Pixies were kinda fun too!", Penny said with a chuckle as she left the greenhouse , heading up to the castle.....

Presley had mostly just watched the pixie chaos. With her wand arm in such a shape, she didn't want to irritate them, and be attacked with no means of defending herself. So as best she could with her right hand, she had taken notes on what the others were doing, and how effective it was. She stood and gathered up her books into her bag, folded her parchement, added that to her bag, and excused herself with a "Thank you professor Bentley!"

Right after Cassie had successfully removed the fangs from the biting toad stools, she placed the fangs in the jars provided and returned the toadstools to their original location. She finished up just in time too because the professor had now issued a new activity...Harvesting caps.

She sighed a little. Her hands were getting a little tired, this was a lot of manual work but at least there was no dung involved. Yuck.

Cass moved towards the toadstool to get the caps but like her fellow students, she was attacked by pixies.

Not her haaaaair! "No no, leggo my haaair!!" She pulled off her gloves and slapped one away from her with them but it cam zooming right back at her.

Right, her wand.

"Stupefy!" That was for ugly number one, who pulled on her hair.."stupefy!" Ugly number two pulling on her top and scratching her neck..

She managed to grab a toadstool and twisted it's cap off before another pixie came at her. Cassie let out a low growl. These things were annoying."Stupefy! Go away and stay away ugly" She saw Marilyn dealing with her own batch of pixies and sent a grin her friend's way.

"alright there Marilyn?"

"Thanks for a great lesson professor. See you next class." Isabella said to the professor. She gathered her wand, book, quill, and her parchment and with one last look at the classroom exited the room.
