ARGH! More pixies! Curse you, you vile little creatures!

Reaching for a toadstool, her hand was scratched by one of those little pests.

"OUCH!" Elise yelped, withdrawing her hand sharply.

The pixies resorted to pulling at her robes and hair, she had no choice.

"Immobulus! Stupefy! STUPEFY!" she cried! Yes, they worked! GOOOOOOD...

No pixies in sight. She quickly grabbed the toadstool and unscrewed the cap.

Two Down. One to go.

Horrified that she had points taken away from her Rose looked up at the professor. "I'm so sorry professor. It won't happen again" She was going to have to be extra careful about who she got help from in the future. She knew Aiden was only trying to help, but she couldn't help but be a little annoyed that she was given wrong information. I will just have to try really hard to earn some points for my house she thought. She just felt awful for the point loss, and hoped that her fellow hufflepuffs would not be mad at her.

Faven looked around herself in a panic. All over the greenhouse students were battling with these tiny little creatures...pixies the Professor had called them. FIRST there had been Biting Toadstools, and now pixies that bit and pushed, pulled hair, tripped and other mean and dangerous things???? Faven was terrified, but needed to get those three caps.

Faven walked over to the toadstools and took one of them in her small hands. She twisted the cap off and held it in her hand....well...that wasn't too ha...."AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" Faven felt sharp pains all up her hands and arms. Looking down she saw what seemed like 10 pixies all over her, gnawing at her skin. Faven held on to her harvested cap for dear life, she wasn't about to let it go. She raced over to the box, all the while getting attacked by the EVIL pixies. She dropped it in, but that didn't cause the pixies to leave her alone. Faven only knew one spell, and that had been to numb the Biting Toadstools. What was she going to do???? "HELP ME PLEAAAAAASEEEE!!!!!" She called out, hoping that one of her peers could help her.

Faven could not believe that she still had two more caps to harvest. At this rate, she felt that the pixies would eat her before the activity was finished.

Elise reached for her last toadstool, grabbed it and.... YANK!

"YOU!" she snarled at the pixie. "GET AWAY FROM ME!" she cried as she flicked it away, but it just came back.

"Why do you do this to yourselves..." she sighed. "Immobulus!" Another one!

"Stupefy! Immobulus!" MISS! "DRAT!" she yelled, being lifted up by 4 particularly annoying pixies.

Twisting off the cap, still hanging in the air, she yelled a cushioning charm down below and stunned the pixies holding her.

"OOMPH!"

Elise ran over to the box and dropped all three of her caps in. She did it. Great! Now to retreat to the safety of her stool. Until she heard a scream...

"Stupefy! Immobulus!" Elise yelled at the pixies. "The Freezing Charm's Immobulus. Use it." she told the girl.

"Immobulus! Immobulus! Stupefy!" she muttered.

"Five points from Gryffindor... freezing or stunning only!" .. how many times did she have to say it?


"Thats alright dear," Seren smiled, she didn't mind all that much, she was just concerned about safety.

Seriously, what was the point in these creatures? All they did was cause trouble!
Sighing she drew her wand again and went for her final toadstool. This time there seemed to be more pixies than ever, which was strange as more people had been freezing and stunning them. "Stupefy!" she stunned a pixie sitting ontop of a toadstool. Smiling she bent down to pick up the toadstool but instead a pixie zoomed straight into her hand. Before she realised it sunk it's sharp little teeth into her.
"OW! It bit me!" she shouted, letting go and examining her hand. It was alright, no blood, just three little marks on her hand. Right. No more misses nice guy.

Glaring she pointed her wand at the pixie. "Immobulus! Stupefy! Immobulus!" Wow, this one was good at dodgeing. "IMMOBULUS!" That got it. Not waiting to see if there were anymore she grabbed the toadstool, twisted it's top off and dropped it into the box.
She was DONE! No more evil pixies to freeze. She quickly ran back to her seat for a well deserved rest. She now decided pixies were her least favourite magical creatures. No one touched her hair!

August had been heading over to the next patch of Toadstools when the Herbology Professor, the same one he had sort of met through Kourtney down at the Pathways before, had come over. He hoped she would be there to tell his great work on his first Toadstool capture and disabling of the Pixie but instead she said four words that set August into a panic.

Five. points. from. Gryffindor. O____O

His head fell in disappointment. How could he be so stupid?! He didn't know many spells as it was and he was just copying what he heard someone nearby say. But Professor Bently must have said that he could only use those spells sometime when he was fighting that pixie. "I'm sorry Professor, it won't happen again." And he walked off, slightly less excited as before.

The next Toadstool was near a group of students where the pixies were already flying around and snapping at kids here and there. August ran into the group, one hand over his head and the other with his wand. "Stupefy!" he shouted knocking a Pixie out of his way and he reached forward, twisting and snapping the Toadstool into his basket.

Two down.

Post 2Grabbing the pixie Mickey yanked it from her hair and threw it up in the air before* crying "Imobulus!" and stunning it. She breathed a sigh of relief while rubbing the sore part of her head from the hair that's been yanked out. "Ouch..." She uttered going deeper into the depths of the greenhouse looking for a mushroom. "You little buggers are hard to find." She got down on her knees and delicately harvested her second one. "One more."* She didn't feel nearly bad about walking through a pixie infested area anymore now that she could defend herself.* Didn't mean that she liked them though. "Stupid little..."

Indiana was looking a little horrified. How on earth was she supposed to be able to know how to stun a Pixie. She didn't want to stun one! What had they done to her. That was not good at all. The little first year stared at the toadstool. She really had no idea what to do. Well she knew how to harvest the caps. That was pretty easy, but she had no idea how to stun anything. She glanced around watching people, they all seemed to know what to do. But she had no idea at all. Part of Indy wanted to burst into tears. Couldn't the professor tell them what spell to use?

Okay. Indiana figured that she should ask the teacher. That was the best idea right? Leaving her toadstool, she went up to the teacher, who was talking to another student. Hmm. Grasping the Professors robes gently, she gave a small tug, before smiling up at her. "Professor...I don't know what spell to use..."

Oohh.. ok now she was starting to feel bad. Seren wasn't the type to take points, but instructions were instructions...

"Thats alright dear..." she said offering him a small smile.

She was cruel.

Oh dear Merlin!.. she was slightly off balance for a second as there was a tugging on her robes. PIXIES!... oh no... Indy. Whoops.

Oh well now wasn't that just the cutest thing?! She smiled down at the other mini-Hutchinson. Bless those two!
"Oh of course dear," she said holding her own wand in front of her, "There are two spells you can use. The first is the stunning spell, stupefy."
Aiming her wand at a nearby pixie, she flicked her wand at it "Stupefy." She watched the red light shoot from her wand. It was a direct hit!.. of course it was, she was pro at this. "Or there's the freezing charm, immobulus." Turning slightly, Seren spotted one of the other pixies, this was good target practice.
"Immobulus," the wave of blue light hit the pixie and sent it flying in the opposite direction, unable to move.

But of course, poor Indy was still learning. "Give it a go, if you're still having difficulties I'm sure one of your peers will help."

try to help the ravenclaw girls, then Raven took her wand and helped her.


"You can use this spell. IMMOBULUS!" then the pixies were freezed

After Freya secured the first cap, she went back to hunt some more. The Professor said they have to collect 3 caps, right? She hoped that this time she could get the cap without any pixies pulling her hair she had enough of that.

She walked towards the nearest toadstool but unfortunately this one was guarded by some pixies. She quickly pointed her wand towards the first pixies before it attacks her hair "Stupefy." and the pixie went stun. "Stupefy!" You're not getting near my hair again! "Stupefy!" No more pixies. She hold the toadstool by the top and twisted it off. Two down one more to go.

Aurora was keeping well back, but there were pixies going for the box and nobody seemed to have noticed... She edged closer and pointed her wand into the group of pixies. "Immobulus Totalum!" They all fell, frozen and she brushed them away from the box...

Oh wait... her spell hadn't got them all...

"Help!" she was stunning all the ones that had come for the caps whilst wrestling with one that had latched itself to her ponytail and was pulling furiously...

Honestly, next time she'd wear a shower cap...

Surprise surprise, they were going to harvest them. Although, surprisingly, she wasn't aware that there were going to be pixies involved with this. Narrowing her eyes slightly, she peered closer at the toadstools, trying to spot one of them. However her search was short once the Professor started to instruct them on how to harvest the peppermint scented mushrooms.

Sighing quietly, Evelyn made sure her dragonhide gloves were on extra tight and any flyaway hair was in her ponytail before looking towards the...

o________O!

It didn't take long before those pesky pixies showed up.

Flinching away from the crowd, Evelyn stared at the chaos that was slowly starting to build up. The professors just loved to put them in amusing situations, didn't they...?

Faven was relieved when the biting stopped, but now she was having a hard time seeing through her tears. She was bleeding..A LOT and it hurt. Yet, she sucked up all the bravery she could muster and decided to continue with the lesson, she was woozy from the blood loss, it seemed much worse in her eleven year old brain. Turing to the girl who had helped her, "Thank you so so much!!!! Stupefy and immobulus.....okay!" Faven looked at the girl warmly. "You really saved me you know!"

She turned back to where the toadstools were, repeating Immobulus in her head over and over again. She didn't have time to relish in her second spell, she needed those darn caps! Taking another toadstool in her hand she quickly twisted and POP, off came the cap. Faven cried out as she was yanked backwards, seemingly by her long auburn hair. A darn pixie was pulling at her hair!!!

With the Immobulus spell on the tip of her tounge, Faven called out "Immobulus!" and looked in amazement as the pixie froze up. Faven caught her before she fell to the floor and gently set her down on another toadstool. They may be mean and nasty, but Faven hated to see any creature hurt. Before another pixie could set upon her, Faven rushed over to the box and set her second cap in.

Two down and only one more to go!

Indiana really hoped that the lady wasn't going to be too annoyed at her for tugging at her robes, but she really didn't know how to actually get her attention. She didn't want to disturb her talking to the other students. That wasn't very good. She smiled as the professor looked at her. This was good. Now she had her full attention, and would be able to learn what spell to use.

Ooh. The professor was going to show her which ones to use too. That was good. Indiana nodded as sshe watched. "Okay..." She smiled. Hopefully she'd be able to do this. "Thank you." She nodded one more time, before she wandering back over to her toadstool. Okay. This was going to work, because she hoped it would. No Pixie's were at her toadstool, so she went straight forward to grab it with her hand, but suddenly out of nowhere, and a Pixie jump down, and started scratching at her hands. Luckily she didn't feel a thing because of her gloves.

Now was the perfect time to try and practice her stunning spell. Grabbing her wand with the other hand, she quickly pointed it at the Pixie. "Stupefy!" She tried not to yell as she pointed at it, but nothing really happened darn it. Pouting she refocused, keeping her wand pointed at the stupid Pixie. "Stupefy!" Thankfully it worked this time, and she Pixie dropped from her hand. Perfect. Now she could get the cap from the toadstool. Grabbing the toadstool, she took a hold of the cap gently, and pulled. It came off, with a bit of a force, and she dropped the stem down, before dropping the cap into the jar. Perfect. Only two more to go.

Ariella mentally kicked herself. Of course she knew Stupefy. She just didn't know that it was referred to as the stunning spell. Wow. That made her sound extremely stupid. "Thank you!" she said anyways, giving the girl a smile.

"Thank you!" Ariella replied to the other girl helping her. Now the freezing spell was the one that she hadn't known. She smiled and turned back to her cap.

She grasped hold of the cap and twisted it gently, careful not to do anything wrong. As soon as her cap was off of the toadstool, a pixie started tugging her hair. Turning around she noticed that there was three of them zooming towards her. "Ouch! Get off of me!" she shouted as the first pixie yanked her hair right out of its ponytail. She whipped out her wand. "IMMOBULUS!" she shouted. The pixies froze in midair. Letting out a puff of air, she took her cap and placed it into the box. One down, two more to go.

Raven tried to help the older student

"Stupefy!"then the pixies were stunned.

Lana smiled when two people had froze the pixie carrying her. She was mid air though, but not high enough for her to be seriously injured.

Thud!

Just a slight fall, she got back onto her feet. She turned to familiar face first, "Thanks Raven, you certainly know more than I do!" she said smiling.

And then she turned to the boy. "Thank you.. umm.. I don't believe we've met before.." she said as she extended her hand smiling. "I appreciate it!"

Ugh!

This was like that lesson a million, million years ago. The one where they had to deal with those pixies for homework. Only now, they had to, not only stop the pixies from attacking, they had to harvest toadstools, too! And Destiny was fine with that, but she didn't even like peppermint! Why would she want to harvest a peppermint toadstool!?

Chocolate on the other hand..

Heaving a GIANT sigh, she made sure her glove were on and her wand was in her hand. Well.. of course that was in her hand.. Anyways.. approaching the closest toadstools, she glanced around at the rest of the class to see what they were doing. Because with the noise they were making, she didn't figured she'd do the opposite of what they were doing. But she did know one thing she was going to do. Professor Bentley did say to help eachother, didn't she?

Moving closer to Evelyn, Destiny raised her hand towards her friend. "Evelyn. Don't be scared.. but there is a pixie right by your face. I'm going to slap it away for you." And then, raising her hand a little higher, she waited for the go ahead.

There weren't just a few pixies in the greenhouse, no. The place was infested! In only a few seconds a swarm of pixies had revealed themselves and fought back as mischievously as they could. They were pulling people's hair, biting their fingers and ears, poking them, tripping them, pushing them-- it was a huge confusing mess! The entire greenhouse was filled with screams from the students and giggles from the pixies. He had been so caught up observing the room that he hadn't realized a pixie was hovering up above him and preparing itself to... poo on him. SPLAT! Right on his shoulder. Eino turned his face and saw one nasty splatter of gooey pixie poo! "Yuck!" He exclaimed as the pixie giggled at his misfortune and flied off to attack another victim, but Eino wasn't going to let it escape. Oh no, you poo on him, you pay! He did collect the poo in a small vial first, because it could be possess some magical properties useful in potions. You never know. After that, he was on the hunt for that pixie!

He ran around the greenhouse looking for it, and finally he found it getting some more ammo, or eating some wizard crackers out of a student's backpack. Eino took out his wand and pointed it at the pixie, but it wasn't doing down without a fight. It moved so swiftly it was hard to aim! "Immobulus!" He shouted and blue light ejected from his wand but missed the pixie. The creature flew right into his direction, attached itself to his face and inserted both of its tiny arms up Eino's nostrils. This made Eino sneeze and when he did the pixie was blasted off and landed on the ground. Before it got the opportunity to stand up, Eino pointed his wand at it and repeated, "Immobulus!" This time the blue light hit the pixie and the creature was rendered immobile.

Eino then returned to his original spot, where he approached one of the plants, grabbed its cap without applying too much force, twisted it and it popped off. He then took it and placed it on the box as the professor direct. Now, he had to obtain too much and he had to go through Merlin knows how many pixies.

Biting Toadstools #3

Still groggy but by no means ready to be fooled again, the toadstool ignored the motionless glove this time no matter how much she wiggled it near the "fingers."

Expelling her breath in a huge sigh that sent her hair flying out of her eyes, Ivory cradled her chin in her right hand staring sympathetically at the feisty plant held capably in her right. "Alright, I get it. You're upset you lost one and you aren't gonna be fooled again..."

With a fortifying deep breath and a assuring tug of her glove, Ivory decided to just barrel through. The gloves were protective and she doubted in it's current state that it could cause much damage anyway.

"You know you're going to be in the best of care right. It'll probably grow back quite soon..." Keeping on a gentle stream of conversation with the plant, the female prefect wiggled her fingers around trying to distract the plant. Ignoring the drool dripping all over as the small plant gnawed on the knuckle of finger, the female prefect concentrated.

And she fakes to the left, fakes to the right, dodges a near bite, and she SCORES!

With a triumphant smile, Ivory pulled out the second fang dropping it with a small clink of glass into the jar. Letting the little toadstool go after a parting pat, she gave it a little nudge. "On you go, little guy. Thank you."

Merlin... so many questions! But an eager learner -- so that was good to see.
"They're used in many things, anything from poison antidotes to burn healing balms, they're a very ingredient to have in stock."

Ahh right so... fangs. "They will usually grow back within a day or two, though they wont be fully developed for up to a week. Theres no limit as to how many times they may be harvested, but studies have shown that regular harvesting reduces their longevity." Which wasn't all that good. She was rather fond of them. "In the wild they ahve been known to shed their fangs, sort of like baby teeth, that way they can grow newer sharper ones which are far more effective for feeding than blunt ones. So it doesn't really harm them at all."



"Of course they will, they'll be fine." She nodded reassuringly. "They'll grow back in a day or two."





She couldn't help but giggle. "Depending on the size of the plant the charm can last anywhere between fifteen minutes to an hour and a half. I suspect it will take this lot about an hour to regain any feeling."

Giving MJ a wink, she added, "I'm sure your toadstool will be fine."



"That's alright dear, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the lesson."
And the brilliant thing was that there was more to come!



Seren wasn't surprised to see that Aurora was enjoying the task, and that she had finished. She was a bright girl after all. "They're a couple of months now."



"The numbing charm will wear off on it's own... it should take about an hour."
She noticed that the Slytherin opted to help a classmate. That was rather nice of her.

"Two points... for helping a peer." Yep it deserved some recognition. "Thank you."



What do you do with the toadstool? What do you do with the toadstool?! Wasn't that obvious.

"You leave it in the soil to continue growing dear," she said offering hima a small smile.

Checking to make sure the students were done, Serent hen turned her attention to her pendant watch. Time to move on.

"Right everyone, I hope you enjoyed that mini-activity, we're about to move on now. So feel free to leave your things here and follow me."
She was about to lead them further in toward the back of the greenhouse when she suddenly remembered something.
"Make sure you have your gloves and wand with you." Becasue of course if she didn't tell them everything they would likely forget. Children were amazing in that sense.

Leading the students down the central corridor of the greenhouse, she took them to a slightly darker, slightly damper and slightly cooller section of the greenhouse. But everything was still visible. Esecially the stunning and fragrent toadstools.

The scent of peppermint hung thick in the air here, and it had a very soothing effect.

Rallying the students around the beds of toadstools, she gave the little red and white striped caps a smile, though their black stems weren't as easy to see.

"These little toadstools are known as Peppermint Striped Parasol's, they are fairly rare and very valluable, can anyone tell me why?"

Slipping off her gloves as the lesson continued, Ivory set down the drool splattered things in front of her. Slipping her wand into her hand once more, a few quick non-verbal cleaning spells had them looking good as new. She most definitely didn't want to continue working with other plants with contaminated gloves. Cross reactions and what not.

But what was this-Peppermint Striped Parasol's? Holstering her wand and bringing out her leather bound green herbology journal again, Ivory followed the class to the next beds. Grinning at the striped little mushrooms she began taking notes again. Concise and to the point and easily readable.

"Correct!" Seren was soooo pleased that the students were so well informed of these charming little 'stools. "Unfortunately we have a tendency to over-harvest a number of our magical resources, this toadstool is no exception... though I reccommend you keep a distance from Magic Minty Moments..." they're just not worth it.

"Now a few of you have mentioned pixies, and in case you wondering, yes we have pixies in this greenhouse. Now... they're not going to be happy with what we're about to do, so I need you all on high alert, and I would greatly appreciate it if some of the more experienced students could help out the first and second years." Otherwise this would be just too chaotic.

"This is the last activity we'll be doing today, but its also the most dangerous. Pixies can be... a bit of a handful, so be careful and look out for one another." It would be fun, and certainly interesting to watch.
"Herbology is not only about plants and how to care for them, it also involves identifying cautions and knowing how to deal with them in a safe and conscientious manner."

Instructions time. Seren turned her head briefly to glance at the 'stools and their protectors. This would be interesting.

"For this activity we will be harvesting the caps... this lot have already released their spores, so in time a new lot will grow to replace the ones we harvest today." Otherwise she wouldn't dare harvest them. No no no.
"You wont need to numb these ones as they don't feel pain like the Biting Toadstool do, but you will need your wand to stun or freeze the pixies."

"When you're harvesting the caps, simply hold it by the top and twist it off, then you'll need to deposit them into this box." Seren indicated a cardboard box not far from where they were standing.
"You need to harvest three caps each. And good luck."

"Remember to help each other out, and don't be afraid to ask for help."

Oh my....pixies.

Feeling a bit of excitement, Ivory tugged her now clean gloves back on and held her wand at the ready. This should be...fun.

Kneeling down beside the beds, the female prefect began humming under her breath. Hopefully lulling the small parasols and perhaps a few pixies, she reached her gloved hand forward fingers reaching out to pick up the nearest striped mushroom when suddenly with a gasp she snatched her hand back.

A bright blue pixie had zoomed forward, out of nowhere, to nip at her hand. Thankfully the gloves had done their job of protection, but still.

Not too willing to just stun the small creatures just yet, Ivory made a few shooing motions. "Go on you, skedaddle. Don't make me stun you." Words seemed to have no effect though. The blue miniature fiend hovered near the tops of the mushrooms, tilting its head as if curious by her motions though not for long. With a mischievous glint in his eye, the pixie buzzed upwards abruptly causing Ivory to flinch backwards almost automatically in reaction.

Now perhaps she would've been able to regain her footing had that been all but sadly it seemed her humming had attracted more than one pixie as evidence by her tied together shoe laces.

"Woooaaaaa-"

Stumbling backwards, her arms automatically came out as she tried to steady herself. Making some sort of odd windmill motions as she teetered there, her eyes widened when in that split second the same pixie flew up to eye level and extended a spindly blue hand.

*POKE*

The tiny action was the grain that broke the camel's back. Or more to the point felt like it broke her back as with a loud thump she fell straight backwards staring at the greenhouse ceiling with a dazed look in her eyes.


For a second she could've sworn she saw tiny little blue birds circling around her head, sort of like in those old muggle cartoons when someone got knocked out. Wow, I must've hit my head haard. she thought to herself as her eyes tried to focus. Of course, that was when she noticed they weren't little blue birds but rather mean ol' pixies.

"No more Mrs. Nice guy." she promised, her eyes narrowing dangerously as she picked herself up.

"Thanks." Aurora said, looking at the kid. "Pixie!" she pointed at the thing flying at the kids head... Stunned it, and ran back away from the box... she could defend it from a distance.

Or not... Kynthia thought as she watched her classmates try and harvest the caps but being chased and bittne by the pixies instead.
How can anything that looks so cute do that? She stared wide eyed at what was going on around her. How was she going to do this? She didn't even know which spell to use! Making a mental note to herself to go over to the library later and stock up on any spell book she could find, Kynthia approached the others in order to ask for some help. Soon enough she learnt what she needed overhearing a group of First years who were asking for help. "Immobulus" and "Stupefy" seemed like the most beautifull words she ever heard at the time.

Taking a deep breath she approached a toadstool very slowly, wand at the ready. She dearly hoped the dragon hide gloves would provide enough protection from the pixies. She had reached the mushroom but no pixie was in site. Letting a sigh of relief she reached for the cap, thinking that maybe the pixies didn't notice her with all those students around. She was wrong however. The momment she touched the cap a total of three pixies flied amazingly fast to where she stood.

"Stupefy!" She shouted pointing to one of the pixies. "Argh you stupid little flying things! Immobulus!" As the first pixie fell to the floor, the second just floated there blinking with its huge eyes.
"That'll show them!" Returning to the mushroom she took hold of the cap and quickly before more pixies could attack her she twisted it.
