There was one piece ever so slightly smaller than the other--Violet prided herself on her ability to cut things evenly, it was useful for potion-making--and Violet noticed that Angelina took it. Cake was, after all, a good way to make friends.

After spending time in the library studying and basically trying to play catch up from the last few days, Matt figured that it was about time to either hang out with some of his friends or eat lunch; well maybe both would be a good idea since there was a little something called multitasking. He walked into the Great Hall and immediately headed over towards the Slytherin table, noticing that it was actually deserted which definitely seemed a bit odd; but at least he'd have some quiet time before people decided to interrupt it, he loaded his plate up with bacon, a couple pieces of fruit and some assorted brunch items before immediately starting to eat.

India had heard that Matt was back but she hadn't seen him yet. When she saw him sitting there in the great hall at the Slytherin table she almost ran over. And the she remembered maybe now wasn't the best time to ask him hey I met a classmate of yours...is he nice? First she was going to be nice.

Because she wanted to know of course. "Hey Matt" she smiled over to him as she walked over and took a seat across from him. Grabbing a piece of bread as she did so. She was hungry after all. "so...you - how is everything...also...I've got a question about a housemate of yours" and it just blurted out before she could even ask how his mom was.

Classy India. Classy.

Her cheeks turned fuschia as she realized how unkind she must have sounded...she must have looked sooo selfish. "Its just - even though we don't know eachother all that well...I think I can trust you on being a good judge of character...I mean, I don't want to find out after the fact that i'm befriending a complete jerk." and the word vomit continued...it was like someone had hit speak and the button had broken on speak mode...brilliant.

"Basically...I was trying to ask if you knew the deal on this guy...hes been nice to me...but I don't know if thats just a game...or a Hey its a girl thing...or even a hey I want to keep her as an option thing...which would be worse."

That was a good question...and India also wanted to rewind and ask how his mom was - seeing she'd heard rumors of his leaving...even though they'd only ever talked at the opening feast two months ago.

"Alright slowing down...sorry...excited, and also...wanted to know how your mum is doing? I heard you left to visit - I do hope she's alright." And there through all her uncaring words earlier was the nuggot of kindness he so obviously needed.

"And...well...I haven't really noticed...thats the problem - I mean I met him at Dance lessons before you left...he said - he said is name was João Neves" she said the name as if it didn't mean a thing. Even though who knew - it might have. Right now she just needed an honest friend...and she hoped she'd get one soon.

India nodded, she was happy that Matt's mom was alright - she knew that feeling all to well. "Well...if you ever need to talk about that I really would understand - I...um, my dads got sick last year - he sent me to Hogwarts so...I'd not be around...its nothing too serious just he's got to get surgery and I guess me and my things would've gotten in the way." Her tone was soft, almost incoherent as she said the last bit.

" - oh...right...yeah João is a Slytherin - he's well - he's a little taller than me, and blond...he's got an accent I don't where its from but he always says senhorita" she explained mimicking the accent almost perfectly.

Maybe the accented senhorita would give a clue as to who she was talking about. I mean how many Latino - Brazilain - Italian whatever the accent really was - people were they at Hogwarts. She sounded different so different at times she stuck out like a sore thumb. His accent was like a cannon going off and knocking down half a wall...it was just that - dreamy? Yes, no it wasn't that...it was just so easy to notice...easy to place like the last piece to a four-piece jigsaw puzzle easy.

"Which classes? Do you mean all of them?" replied Violet, swallowing her cake hastily. "I like potions the best, even though Professor Lafay can be difficult--but I think she's brilliant. Of course, I already did love potion-making before I came to school. And I like Charms, which was a surprise--I hadn't thought much about that subject before. Transfiguration--I don't know, the subject is really interesting, but all that dressing up as clowns and stuff isn't for me--I thought that class would never end. But the class I really hated was the basic Flying training--I've never ridden on a broom before, and after my first class, I can tell that's not ever going to be my best skill."

Aurora brushed her red hair from her eyes as she wandered into the Great Hall, a tiny frown between her eyebrows. Pictures that didn't move were boring. Wait. Did that girl just flip a page? That was like... vandalising a book! Wasn't it? Because the page would never be straight again... "Well, I'll let you know if I want to read them." Aurora said, shoveling more food into her mouth. "My bookshelves are mostly filled with potions and music and stuff anyway." she said after she had swallowed her mouthful.

As India had continued to speak, Matt went back to eating; well it wasn't rude in any way since he still was listening, he just couldn't talk at least until he was finished. When the subject of this conversation had still been about his mother, he wasn't entirely sure why it was still being discussed; at least it wasn't anything bad since he didn't feel like defending himself over comments that were completely unnecessary. "At least he decided to do the right thing, maybe coming to Hogwarts was what he thought would be best. I'm only throwing my suggestion out here since I really don't know the situation." Which was true, he wasn't about to just comment on something that he knew very little about since it would make about as much sense as wandering into the Forbidden Forest at night.

"Ah okay, I know who you're talking about now. Personally, I haven't met him but I saw him at the house meeting a couple months ago. Now.. from what you've told me, it appears this behaviour might be him playing a game. Again I'm only taking a guess here, it could be very well possible that he is interested but it's not anything serious." If he actually knew this kid, then maybe he could have said something more helpful than that but he didn't so it was basically left up to guessing.

Angelina giggled a little and said, "That good. I like potions, but it confuses me sometimes. I though I'd love it, but I'd have to say my favorite class is either Charms and Herbology. I never thought I'd like thoughs classes every in my life! Yeah I think I did pretty good on my first flying class, but it was kinda hard, you know? I'm not taking Transfiguration. Is it good at all?"

Pictures that didn't move were boring. Wait. Did that girl just flip a page? That was like... vandalising a book! Wasn't it? Because the page would never be straight again... "Well, I'll let you know if I want to read them." Aurora said, shoveling more food into her mouth. "My bookshelves are mostly filled with potions and music and stuff anyway." she said after she had swallowed her mouthful.

Neko smiled. "Well, that's good" she said.

Neko smiled. "They're really interesting. I mean, if you like ninjas and all...." she shrugged. She laughed. "Potions, no. Music, yes. I love music" she said.

"What's a ninja?" Aurora asked, frowning, her fork paused in mid air. "Is it like, a sort of food or something?" Speaking of food... she ate the mouthful on the fork hovering in front of her. Mmmmm fooooooood.

Neko's eyes widened a little. "N-n-no...I-I l-love potions, but n-not as much as Astronomy" she said.

"No, but my Aunt's best friend's godsister and fiance both play guitar" she said. "you?"
