"Electricians work with machinery, sir," she said slowly. "I believe they specialize in wiring, and see to muggle appliances, such as fans and light sources. Their work is two-fold - installation, and repair."
"Then there are welders," she added, thoughtfully. "They specialize in the repair of metals, or plastic."
OOC: Two, because I posted pretty much at the same time as the person before me, and they mentioned electricians.
Sini sat there thinking about what else a Muggle Profession could be for something in the house. It amazed her how many people had already been mentioned, suddenly she thought of one she had heard about, "Professor, I think I heard someone speaking about a Painter. It seems that they are people who change the colors of rooms for Muggles. I think they use this mixture they call paint to make the walls change from one color to another using something called a paint brush. I think they have to be careful though, I would think that they could accidentally make things the wrong color which would get pretty messy." she hoped that she was recalling what she heard and read correctly. "Oh I also remember reading about how they used a roller, which seemed to be something that would make the task easier, I guess it lets more coverage on the walls then just the brushes they use."
Having lowered her hand, Gold looked at the notebook that lay in front of her. She had nearly completed the 'task' they had been set, and only needed to underline the headings and stuff. Dipping her quill in her signature, PINK! ink, the sixth year quickly did that, and then checked what she had written, for spelling and grammatical errors.
Thankfully, she found none.

My pick; Skydiver.
Profession; Parachuting, or sky-diving.
{ what }
Sky-diving is basically an application of what muggles call 'Physics.' It conforms to the performance of acrobatics, while in free-fall. In our terminology? Doing crazy stuff, while falling through the air!
{ as a profession }
Sky-diving is well-known as a recreational sport, and a competitive activity. However, there are people who choose to pursue this field, either to earn a living, or as a sole career. These are known as professional sky-divers.
{ how; training techniques }
The Top Three:
[ * ] The Static Line: Deployment technique, which consists of release of the parachute immediately after the 'student' has left the plane, irrespective of the parachuter's actions.
[ * ] Accelerated Freefall, or AFF: The name comes from the fact that this method of training is said to be the fastest, to experience lone free-fall. The instructor is able to dispatch only one student per load, which makes this relatively expensive.
[ * ] Tandem Sky-Diving: This refers to the technique where a student is 'connected' to an instrcutor, by means of a harness or supporting cable. The instructor is the guide, and pilots the students through the freefall.
Plus;
[ * ] Instructor Assisted Deployment, or IAD: It is a technique of deployment, initiated by a jump-master, who throws the student's parachute into the pilot chute, and clear of the door.
{ how, part II; the qualifications you need }
[ * ] Courage!
[ * ] The ability to have fun.
[ * ] Stamina.
[ * ] Physical fitness and strength.
[ * ] The ability to make, and execute, split-second decisions.
[ * ] To be able to think clearly, in a critical situation.
[ * ] To be quick on your feet. Or should I say, quick in the air!
[ * ] Flexibility.
She raised a hand.
"Is this alright, sir?" She asked, in a small voice.

"Architect?" Celandine offered. "Because they know stuff about what can be done about stuff if improvements are desired. And stuff." Cela clarified-ish. "And if something gets broken, some people, when they fix it, like to make it pretty when they get around to it."
Cue lip chew.

Hmm. Jobs that fixed houses and stuff? Well. She had learnt a little about that, and she'd seen it at Torin's house so she probably should have known a few. She listened around the class, before raising her hand. "Don't they have these people called "Gas men or Women....and they come and like fix the gas in people's houses, like in their boilers I think. The gas heats up the house, and lets them cook and stuff." Yup. She felt clever.

Thinking of muggle homes, Kay remember something about a roof. "Professor, there are muggles who just work on the roof of a home. I think that what they are called to. Roofer? They are the people who fix and put those tile thing on top of peoples homes." She said feeling better about this answer.
Kate quickly copied down the list on the board, mentally kicking herself for her last answer. She could've sworn though that chiropodists did something with feet...Maybe they mean the same thing!
She didn't have to think too hard about her next answer, though. With her mother being a muggle, Kate's family enjoyed some muggle technology. Raising her hand, she answered the professor's question with a grin. "There's a cable TV repairman as well, professor! Muggle's watch moving pictures on a television, and when it's not working right, these repairmen come and fix the wires that bring in hundreds of channels."Sometimes I miss that big block of plastic... "There, does that seem good enough?" she said with a smile, thinking NOW they were done. Hopefully. Unless one of them thought of something else again.
When was Evelyn observing muggles? Destiny let out a little snort as she pictured her friend hiding in bushes as she observed these people. What were those things called, they make objects seem closer than what they really are? Bioncuarkers?
Close enough.
Riiight. They had to carry those letters in a bag. Oi! If the bags were that heavy, Destiny wondered how bad thier backs must hurt. "Yeah, that's good now." she said, nodding at Evelyn's question.

It took Destiny a looooong time to copy down the lists written on the board. They..were really weird words. Not only were they hard to pronounce, they were hard to spell as well.
Weird spelling and hard pronunciation almost made her miss the next question! "Someone can come and repair a swimming pool! Cause, they break." Or explode.
But the exploding swimming pool was another story.

"Yes that is correct. And you will be interested to know that there are surgeons for different parts of the body. A doctor that specialises in only the heart or the brain. They even have what they call plastic surgeons, they are the wealthiest doctors in the muggle world. One point for your answer."
"Correct, one point."
"Thank you Simon. One point for Hufflepuff."
Marcus nodded at the girl, "Quite right and they are called Optometrists. Take a point."
"Very good. One point for you."
"Excellent Herminny. One point for Gryffindor."
"Very good, it's not only doctors that make up the medical field. One point for your answer"
"They call them General Practitioners" Marcus said giving the girl a smile, "A point for Hufflepuff."
"Yes you would be right. One point for Ravenclaw."
Marcus chuckled softly, "That would be a podiatrist" he corrected, "One point."
"Pediatrician" he said with a small chuckle. "One point for you Kel."
"Very good Rafe that is correct. One point."
"Excellent Mina. One point for your answer."
"And another great answer. Take a point for gryffindor Patroclus."
Lawson walked back up to the front and wrote up a list on the board.
"There are some of the jobs that were mentioned plus a couple more. Please copy that down."
He walked back around to the fron of his desk and faced the students once again. "Okay so there are just a few different jobs in the medical field. "An electrican? If the lights in a house go out they can fix the problem," Luna answered. "Or a mechanic to fix things like washing machines," she said.
Theo was so proud, his first day in class and he'd already earned Gryffindor 5 points for his answer. "This isn't so bad," he thought. "Okay, now something to do with a home...." Theo pictured his parent's house in the small town north of London he came from. He remembered how funny it was to see the men jumping between the rooftops of the rowhouses waving those long feather poles and covered in soot. The always seemed so happy at what they were doing even though they weren't using magic. He rasied his hand and said,

Vashti, pleased that she'd at least gotten a point, quickly wrote down the jobs as the professor instructed. Once she had done so, she raised her hand once she'd thought of an answer. "Professor, there are engineers. They, like, deal with the building of a house or other structure and create a floor plan or layout for the builders to use when they build the building." That was an incredibly redundant sentence. Hopefully it was still understandable and correct. "The repair-people might need those floor plans to fix parts of the house, like if it was destroyed by a fire or if a tree fell on it or other stuff like that."

Renée was still in the Muggle studies classroom. "Teacher there is a gardener! They take care of their muggle customer's garden!" metioned Renée calmly. She wrote down all the other jobs on the board, they were all very intresting! Mechanics, electricians, engineers, roofers they were all great answers!

Alex sighed writting down in her notes before hesistantly raising her hand, "What about the people that fix those muggle er Gas Leaks?" She asked more then answered
"Chim chim-in-ey, chim chim-in-ey, Chim chim cher-ee! A sweep is as lucky, as lucky can be," Rafe began to sing. It just popped in his head. "There's a chimney sweep sir!" Rafe said with a raised hand. "Well, for the homes with chimneys!" Rafe laughed and whistled the tune he was singing once more.

Good, so they were done with that list thing. Practically tuning everything else out, like usual sometimes with her, she stared at her bluish-green quill, twirling it in her hand before she was brought back to reality...or in this case, the discussion in the class.
What were they talking about?

Something about doctors and nurses? *shudder* Evil people. Yes, those people were evil. Hearing about Destiny almost have her tongue RIPPED out of her during the summer...muggles should be...put in jail or something! Pfft.
"Don't they have some people that come and clean and fix their home after there was a fire?" she asked more then said after raising her hand. Another brilliant observation from herself, of course...SHE wasn't the one that started the fire. She only stared at it because it was so pretty. Fire was pretty!
But, that had been the last observation she got before her parents found out where she had been going. Hehe.
"Sir, a plumber deals with water supply to the house, the taps, the showers and the sinks. They are involved with both installation and repair"
Patroclus smiled at the Professor, he really enjoyed Muggle Studies, as for the world to work, a harmonious coexistence was necessary between magic and non magic peoples.

"Very good all of you and that's one point for each of you who answered."
Moving back to the board he wrote up a list of muggle repair jobs.
Lawson turned back to face the class, "As you can see there are many specialised fields of jobs just for your house." He pointed to the board, "They are only but a few. Please copy that down."
He waited for a few moments while the students copied down the list from the board. "Now moving on. Just as with their houses, muggles also have people to repair their cars when something goes wrong. And just as with house repairs there are different specialised areas for cars. Who can tell me the different types of muggle repair persons who work on cars?"
