Astronomy Lesson :: Terraforming [ a brief introduction ]
The sun has long set and the light of the full moon is juxtaposed against the dotted canvas that is the night sky. Although the moon's glow is brilliant, one's eye cannot help but be drawn to a few other luminescent dots in the sky. Are they stars or planets? Only those that know how to distinguish between the two will be able to tell you that answer.
Stepping into the Astronomy classroom, you are hit with what feels like a brick wall of icy cold air that burns your face and causes your teeth to chatter. Rest assured that as cold as it may feel, there is no chance for you to get frostbite or catch a cold. As you make your way towards the semicircle of desks - the usual formation for Astronomy lessons to help create a more intimate setting - you may have to battle the occasional dust devil or terrestrial tornado along the way. These are relatively harmless and more of an annoyance than anything else as they carry NO risk of sweeping even the smallest of first years high into the air. Just be sure to hold on to your belongings. The air itself was tainted in unpleasant waves of stench reminiscent of someone setting off a series of dung bombs every few minutes. But perhaps the strangest of all is the manner in which you move about within the classroom. You feel much lighter on your feet and your usual steps cause you to lift higher up into the air than usual. Not too much that you will knock your head against the ceiling, but enough that you could potentially jump double your own height - perhaps even a little bit MORE than that if you really tried.
When you do finally arrive at your desk you find a little souvenir waiting for you. The blackboard, positioned across from the semicircle of desks, has the following instructions written upon it:

The space blanket is yours to use should conditions prove to be too cold for you.
Take out a quill and write your FULL name and year on the piece of parchment provided.
Once you have done so, give it a tap with your wand.
The parchment, enchanted by the professor himself, will turn into a sturdy wood name plaque when you do so. Don’t worry, even the first years and those not skilled with magic will be able to manage this little trick.
Speaking of the professor, you can find him leaning against his desk with his trusty pet rock by his side, his own space blanket utilized in a peculiar but perhaps not unexpected manner and his own head protected by a Bubble Head Charm.
Did you remember to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom? It was there next to the sign that reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair" and has the signature of a former student in the bottom right corner.
So come on in and find a seat, class will begin shortly.

This lesson has officially started! Please do not announce your character arriving late and just pretend like they have been in class all along. You are free to jump in any time and should use the lesson progression links to keep up.
Jaemin could cling like the best of 'em. He was the Devil's Snare of small children, a champion of holding onto things and people that didn't want to be held onto. It probably came with being very small and having to keep a grip on his mom and dad in crowds. He couldn't intercept the ball if it were thrown, as he was far too close, but he could try to keep it from being thrown! Even if the guy got all hissy at him. He shook his head and wrinkled his nose at him. Nu'uh dude. He'd have to throw the small boy as well if he wanted to throw the ball.
...why was this girl getting mad at him?! Who was attacking anyone??? Not Jaemin!
"I'm allowed to try and stop him," the little boy said petulantly, squeezing a bit tighter. "I'm not hitting him or anything!"
Just squeezing his arm and hand and hoping he would let go of the ball! Deeeeefense!
He spotted a girl throwing a ball. She was a Ravenclaw, but he was closer than who she was throwing toward. So Olly leaped. The gravity in the room carried him up higher than he could have jumped normally. He snatched the ball out of the air and sent the girl a grin. Thanks. He hurried back to his own platform and set the ball down, so it turned green.

What!?
Katherine was too ANGRY to even react. "You're not even a Hufflepuff!" she exclaimed as she GLARED. This was stealing! UGH. But - of course. It was her fault. She should have been more cautious. This was a competition - an ugly one. She looked over at the Slytherin side and ALMOST went over to steal HER ball that belonged to RAVENCLAW, but they were currently ripping apart a boy, and she didn't want to deal with that at all. Therefore, she huffed at the stupid boy and turned to steal from the Hufflepuff once again.
Bounce, bounce, bounce.
She was too angry to enjoy jumping this time, and she quickly went over and juuuuuuuuuuuuumped to steal ONCE AGAIN.

Olly kept his eyes on the girl for a moment. She better not be thinking about coming over and trying to steal back that ball from the Slytherin platform. In the end, it looked as if she had decided against it. Which was the right decision, because Olly was definitely not going down without a fight. He cast another suspicious glance around the room, making sure nobody was getting any ideas about trying to steal from Slytherin. That firstie seemed to be doing a good job of defending the platform. So Olly jumped away.
He simply jumped into the air, letting himself float whichever way nature chose. Of course he must have been leaning one way or another, but it was not on purpose. Either way, he ended up landing in the direction of the Gryffindor platform. Looks like that was settled then. Olly leaped again, this time closing the rest of the distance toward his competition. His hand closed around one of the red balls before he turning, silently searching for an open Slytherin.

No Healer. Absolutely not a chance. And what if he left anyway, and avoided the Healer? Daxton had a sudden mental image of said Healer seeking him out, somehow informed of the fake ailment. It was too much to risk, and the Ravenclaw shook his head again, more vehemently this time, though his expression had been reigned in from hints of fear to its usual unreadable state.
But that left staying, which Daxton was not exactly keen on either. He kept his eyes fixed on Airey Flamsteed, before his attention was predictably drawn to the mesmerising progress of the green ball, and he watched it closely for several long moments.
Eventually, once several more moments had passed, Daxton released the handle of the door and let it swing gently closed behind him, and let that simple action speak for him. Dragging his eyes away from the green ball, he glanced at the other students in the room again, and then at Airey Flamsteed once more. Fine. He would stay. Fine.
But only because he did not want to risk the Healer coming anywhere near him.
Maybe he could just sit on the sidelines, and wait out the rest of the activity, and Airey Flamsteed could forget about him having to 'make up' for anything. Technically, he had not missed any of the lesson. Technically, he had been present for the entire thing.
Another small victory, although the man's face showed no indication of gloating. Even if he was terribly pleased with himself at the moment. "Very well then," he nodded, his wand out to summon some more parchment from his desk across the way. "In place of participation, you may sit and write out a chart comparing and contrasting Mars and Earth. Use of textbook permitted." Although Mr. Prince probably did not need to use such tools to accomplish the task.
This plan was two fold, really. On the one had it would, hopefully, keep the Ravenclaw occupied for the remainder of things - which would not be too much longer now - while also creating something that the professor could utilize in the near future. So he could allocate his time to more pressing matters.

Preparing to throw the green ball back into the crowd, the astronomer spotted something he really should NOT be seeing. With a clear confirmation from Zeke that he was indeed fine..and even joking about the matter Hady dropped the situation. It seemed that Professor Airey didn't mind either as he clearly saw what was happening and said nothing. Well either she misunderstood the idea of this activity or nothing made sense anymore. Shaking her head and then running her hand through to hair to get it out of her face she moved her attention to everywhere else in the room.
She'd help her house mates out if they were to steal a ball from another house but otherwise she would remain where she was. Speaking of house mates she was totally open, her eyes meeting Olly. He could toss the ball her way when he was ready.

Elliot watched as the ball sailed just short of his Slytherin teammate and ran jumping into the air, nimble fingers barely grasping as he managed to pull it into his arms. He beamed running over and hopping up to the Slytherin platform depositing the ball watching it turn green once more.

Olly could see Hady near the Slytherin platform. At first he thought she was busy defending it, or heading to steal one for herself, but then he locked eyes with her. She knew that he needed help, and he knew it meant that she was open. He nodded and threw the ball as hard as possible. He hoped that it would reach her before someone from a different team was able to intercept it.

When her eyes met with Olly's for that brief moment she knew that he understood. That's all that mattered.
Hady watched as he threw the red lions ball her way. Sailing. Sailing through the air. Hady leaped off the snakes platform her arms up to catch the ball. Smooth pass this was! Catching it easily enough she jumped into the air the second her feet hit the floor and tossed it onto their platform watching it turn green. A quick thumbs up was sent to Olly on a nice pass!

Katherine JUMPED when Professor Flamsteed warned her like that. She went as red as the Gryffindor's balls over there, and looked down in shame. She meant no harm! She failed the whole class now, didn't she? She didn't even get it. Was using wands not allowed altogether in this class?
Eh, whatever. She just... jumped towards the Ravenclaw side to hand-deliver the ball this time. She WOULD make it up to the professor, she would!

Scarlett was amazed. Apparently NO ONE HAD SEEN HER?! How perfect! With the Ravenclaw ball now safely in her hand, she crept away from the pile and with a big jump, she FLEW through the air with the help of the assisted gravity again and headed towards her home team. She HAD to be successful because she was NOT coming in last to Ravenclaw. No SIR.
She wound out her arm and tossed it through the air, hoping that one of her badger classmates would be able to snag it and add it to their pile before anyone else did...

Kitty's fear of getting injured by someone blocking her too hard was gone. It vanished when she successfully stole that ball from Hufflepuff and passed it to Olivia. Now it was fun! Elated by the victory, Kitty set her sights on the Slytherin platform. She jumped on the platform and grabbed the closest ball, then turned to look for a fellow Ravenclaw to pass it to.

No, actually, Katherine was about to be real. Her own competitive side was kicking in. Her anger was rising. WHO was he, even?! A spoilt Slytherin boy who was probably - oh no. Nononono. No. He was flirting with her, wasn't he? He must have seen her during the feast and/or charms, and this was his way of drawing her attention. All the signs were there: the grin, the obsessive stalking, the heroism in the means of jumping weirdly to intercept her balls, the cheeky attitude... she wasn't that stupid, just so he knew. And she certainly was NOT that kind of a girl who looked for a boyfriend this young - she would have one when she graduated. She wasn't about to throw away her academics for him. And she wasn't that stupid to engage in any kind of conversation with him during the lesson either; she had already made Professor Flamsteed yell at her once. No, she would deal with him after class - if he didn't become more obsessive.
The Hufflepuffs didn't even have any balls left, though; she wasn't going near the Gryffindors and she certainly wasn't going near HIM. So... that was it, then?

And then a fellow first year Ravenclaw presented her with a priceless chance: she successfully stole a ball from the Slytherins. This was it. Katherine was going to catch it before the stupid boy. She waved and called "Over here!" There, she was there.
Thankfully, Kitty saw her. PERFECT! She quickly jumped into the air to catch the ball. She wasn't even distracted by the silly boy! She CAUGHT it, and quickly brought it to their area.

Scarlett had thrown the ball, but had NO TIME to wait and see if it had gotten to anyone - she realized after she released it that Hufflepuff had NO BALLS remaining at ALL. THIS WAS NO OK.
Desperately, she looked around, wondering who the next target would be. She hoped someone had gotten that Hufflepuff ball but if not - at least it was out of Ravenclaw hands. Speaking of, there was a Ravenclaw nearby who was getting ready to make a pass - and this was Scarlett's chance!
One, two...THREE! She took three big steps and bounced off her last step, FLYING through the air and...GAH missed it by inches! And the intended target had caught it and tossed it in the Ravenclaw pile.
Well that was just not going to do.
Her first instinct was to try and steal the ball back - but she had a feeling that was not going to end well. They'd already seen her try to take them out! So instead...she turned to Gryffindor. Time to take from the top!
Apparently Scarlett was going to have to hold down the entire Hufflepuff fort on her own. Sigh.

Despite having decided to stay - though it did not feel very much like a real decision at all - Daxton went on watching Airey Flamsteed uncertainly, up until the moment he was presented with the parchment.
He blinked. This was a surprise; Daxton had been expecting to have to complete some equally undesirable task as those students currently flailing around the classroom, who were by now practically body-slamming into each other. But the task he was being presented with was downright appealing. Almost suspiciously so. Daxton hesitated for a very long moment, thinking hard about any way this could backfire on him, but ultimately reached out and took the parchment, nodding his head as he did so.
No further reaction or comment (silent or otherwise) was really necessary, so Daxton manoeuvred his way back to where the desks were pushed up to the edges of the room, having slight difficulty what with still not having fully adjusted to the gravity situation in the room. But once he was there, Daxton climbed up to sit cross-legged on one of the desks, as far away from the action as possible with his back against the wall. Other than looking up to check the situation in the classroom every few seconds (because this was not a comfortable environment, and all he could do was remain alert and aware, and keep one ear uncovered) Daxton got stuck right in with writing out his chart, using pen on parchment as usual and leaning against his notebook as a makeshift surface.
But if anyone did anything that dragged him into the proceedings - including, but not limited to, throwing one of those balls at his head, and that seemed highly likely - Daxton would be out of here, and he would give nobody the opportunity to stop him again.

WOOHOO! Scarlett had managed to snag one of the Gryffindor balls this time without anyone trying to stop her. It seemed the Ravenclaws were totally DOMINATING this game though. And her Hufflepuff teammates were NOWHERE - absolutely NOWHERE - to be found. She had to pass it to someone, as she couldn't very well just run around scooping up all the balls herself, and when she noticed that Professor Flamsteed had just dropped a ball towards Ariadne - well, this was her chance!
"Psst! Professor! Could you put this on the Hufflepuff pile for me? PLEASEEEEE?" she called out. They couldn't finish with a COMPLETELY empty pile! With that, she tossed it to him, hoping he would catch it and play along with her. He wouldn't let a poor firstie finish this lesson totally empty handed, right?!

People really should know that calling out for who you were about to throw to just called the attention of others. Others who might intercept the toss. Like Olly, who was very easily distracted by the things happening around him. He heard the girl yell for Flamsteed and took a few steps toward the man. Sure, the nice thing to do would be to let Hufflpuff finish with at least one ball on their platform. But this was a competition, not a time to be nice. So Olly jumped and caught the ball that had been intended for the professor. He hurried toward the Slytherin platform and set the ball down so it turned green.

Elliot watched as the ball sailed just short of his Slytherin teammate and ran jumping into the air, nimble fingers barely grasping as he managed to pull it into his arms. He beamed running over and hopping up to the Slytherin platform depositing the ball watching it turn green once more.
So...it was just HERS? Just like that?! Awesome! Ariadne beamed at the professor and widened her arms a little more, just waiting for that glorious toss through the goal hoop...err, toss to her and then placement onto the platform. She still had Quidditch on the brain. "Thanks, Professor!" she called out, pumped up and excited to catch that ball.
It was thrown, and just as Ariadne was about to get it, another boy STOLE IT from her! It was those Gryffindor boys again, wasn't it?! Frown on her face, Ariadne floated around to see that it actually wasn't one the Lion cubs, but one of her own teammates! She changed her expression to a smile and gave the boy a thumbs up. So she was a little disappointed that she didn't get to make the catch herself, but at least it had been a Slytherin this time!
Deciding that the Gryffindor boys just weren't going to let her win, Ariadne floated over to the Ravenclaw platform and took one of their balls. Maybe they would be easier to take from! Now...where were her teammates?

Seeing as Mr. Prince was taking care of, the astronomer turned his attention to his sundial watch and then back to the action. Hmmm...where to go next...perhaps to his own house's platform just to throw a wrench into their defenses? Always expect the unexpected!

Thankfully, because he could not deal with the probability of tears, he was saved from crushing any badger dreams that her professor was completely impartial (spoiler alert, he was not) as someone else intercepted her pass and placed it on the Slytherin platform instead.
"ALAS!" he lamented, snapping his fingers for additional effect.
Then, he jumped up towards the Gryffindor platform and reached out to snatch a red ball from it.

She was back near the Gryffindor area somehow, all this jumping around had brought her back to the HIGHEST PYRAMID BALL PILE almost like she was a worshipper of it. The jumpy dancing around only adding to the effect.
Arms up and everything. Speaking of arms up, WHAT WAS PROFESSOR FLAMSTEED DOING?
"TRAAAAITOR!" Charlotte jumped UP and DOVE IN BETWEEN THE PROFESSOR AND THE GRYFFINDOR PLATFORM. NOOOOOOOOO!

PROFESSOR FLAMSTEED HAD BEEN STEALING FROM THEM? Mel watched in disbelief as she moved over toward the Ravenclaw platform. Her footing sure and deliberate as she made her way toward them. Surely they weren’t as suspicious of her as the Slytherins were now? Right?
With that the little first year jumped with all the gusto she could muster and lifted her hands up grabbed onto the edge of the platform only to swiftly swing herself up onto it and sit down. Ravenclaw was going dowwwwwwnnnnnnn.
“ANYONE WANT MY BALL?” she yelled as she grabbed a blue ball and held it in the air ready to throw it to a teammate.

LANCE WAS BACK! Mel just grinned down to him. “Hey Lance!” She grinned down to him, “you’re a good catcher” she nodded she meant it…did that sound like she was flirting with him? She wasn’t. It was the truth. He’d caught almost all of her balls.
She liked him…well, for that at least.
Lifting the ball she chucked it down to him. “Keep up the good work Lance” she grinned and got ready to steal again.
