The class looks the same with two little-but-effective changes: instead of stools, there are proper chairs with soft cushions to sit and lean back on. The Professor cares about his students' posture, apparently, because they are charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated.
The second change is the walls: they are now a soft, calming blue. He is desperate to avoid blasting cauldrons, and muggles claim this colour calms people down.
He opens the door 15 minutes before the class time and sits at his desk to wait for the students to arrive, with a neutral expression on his face.
OOC: Come in, take your seats! The class will resume approximately 7 hours later. You may chat among yourselves, but please don't go overboard with it. Thanks!
The lesson is in progress now, so do not post your late arrival and just RP as if you have been there all along!
Potion progress
• 3 goose feathers (chopped WELL that they look like powder)
• 5 square centimetres of parasites (mycosis fungus)
• Roughly 2 square centimetres fire-crab shell (prepared)
• One fire slug
• 8 drops of salamander blood
• Some flobberworm mucus (depends on how much rigidity one wants)
1. Fill your cauldron 1/3 with water.
2. Add powdered goose feather. Stir clockwise until it looks homogenous and then turn the heater to high.
3. Get your pestle and mortar, crush the parasites for thirty seconds or so, fill the mortar with water, shake it for them to mix better and add it slowly to the potion.
4. Stir counter clock-wise for 7 times and turn off the heater. Let it cool until no vapour is seen. This should take about 5 minutes.
5. Take the fire crab shell but do not add it! Hold it with a metal spoon, lower it nicely into the potion just inside the surface—make sure it doesn’t splash water AT ALL—then start stirring 1 time clockwise, 1 time counter clockwise for 12 times in total. Each stir should take about ten seconds for it to spread thoroughly. Once done with stirring, get it out and put it away on a tissue.
6. Wait for another minute and cut the slug vertically into two in the meantime, add the pieces and stay away from the cauldron as far as you can. If you’ve done everything correctly, the surface should explode harmlessly and start burning. Put it out with your breath ONLY, so you’d better hurry before the fire spreads to the whole surface.
7. Add 8 drops of salamander blood. Alternate between two stirs counter-clock wise, two stirs clock-wise. Repeat for four times. (So you should stir 16 times in total.)
8. Add flobberworm’s mucus to keep it in your mouth better (no more than a tablespoon, not a must).
9. Enjoy.

Caleb's interest in this class immediately heightened. They were going to be breathing FIRE?! WHAT?! THAT WAS AWESOME!
He raised his hand eagerly. "Well, this fire obviously isn't going to be the same as a dragon's fire. Dragon's have organs that are protected from the fire, whereas our insides would be burnt to a crisp," he explained.

Bay smiled when the professor told him it was a good answer. He raised his hand again "Professor… I saw at a circus one time a lady breathing fire.. she put a liquid in her mount and then had a stick with fire on it and when she spit her liquid at the stick it was like she was breathing fire" he told the professor excitedly. "Is that the kind of thing you were looking for?"
Aha! They were going to be doing some sort of Potion to make them breathe fire then? Oooo, interesting. Though Sophie would still like the protection thing better so she could go about testing all sorts of spells she could think of without having to worry about getting hurt or anything.
"I don't think it'd be exactly like a dragon... I reckon the difference would be the source of the fire...?" Sophie was answering, but she wasn't fully sure about it. "Like... obviously, the fire wouldn't be 'real', but the dragon's fire is." What was her point again? "So the source of the fire, as in, the ganglion or wherever it's produced in a dragon, would be different from the one our fire would come out of." Did that make sense? It did in her head! "What I'm trying to say is that since we don't have a fire-producing system thingies in our bodies, the fire wouldn't be real, while dragons' fire is, because it's natural in their bodies." MERLIN. Why was this so difficult to explain if it made complete sense? Merlin.
Sophie was exhausted already, sheesh.
Magical fire, magical source. Real fire, real source. Yes? Yes, in her head. Yes in the professor's head? Who KNEW?

He clapped hands once again for them to concentrate as he walked to the front of the class and addressed the whole class.
"You generally mentioned flying, protection, offspring care, skin, eyes, blood and fire," he said, "and some of you wanted a long life. Well, some traits are achievable, some not, sadly." He made a face. "Today, we will focus on fire-breathing. Do you think it's possible to breathe fire exactly like a dragon? What might be this fire like?"
OOC: The class will resume in 4 hours.
Bri giggled. It seemed like Professor Culloden would really like to be a dragon. She listen to his questions. Fire-breathing? Is that possible? The way he asked seemed to point to yes.
Remembering the class and feeling more relaxed than earlier, she raised her hand and asked quietly, "Is there a potion that would make us breathe fire like a dragon?"
Bri grew more excited, thinking about the possibility, It would be quite interesting. Thinking about the professor's next question, she wasn't sure what it would be like, though. So she listened to her fellow students answers, and waited for Professor Culloden to tell them the correct answer.

Dragons were pretty cool. They were big and intimidating… Hannah liked intimidation. She raised her hand. ”They are fire-breathing reptiles and are classified as XXXXX.” Hmmm… what trait would she like to have? It might be cool to be able to breathe fire. Nobody would want to mess with her then. ”I think I would like to have the scare tactic because frankly who wouldn’t be scared of a huge reptile that could barbeque you in an instant?” It made sense to her.

Did she think it were possible? ”I think so professor, we are after all wizards right?” Hannah Lockwood could do anything. She had to resist the urge to say the fire would be hot… that just had sarcasm written all over it, and she was trying to turn over a new leaf and all.

"And anything is possible, sir." That was all she felt the need to offer, on account of everyone else was taking care of the technical aspects of the discussion. But she still listened, mhm, all ears.

Benjy rested his chin in his hands, elbows balanced on the edge of the desk. He wasn't exactly sure where this lesson was going, and he might even have drifted off slightly at one point. He was a adrenaline junkie. He'd take any dragon features that would aid in that. Mhmm.
Sitting up a bit at the next question, Benjy wrinkled his nose. "Exactly, exactly?" he said, raising a hand. "I doubt it. We don't have the physiology to cope with it. I'm sure we could use magic for a representation of it though. Something with a cold flame to avoid burns, of course..."
Caelen was sitting on her stool, journal out, biting her lip. Um, breathing fire? Like, they were making a potion to breathe fire? Um, this got way more intense way faster than she wanted it to. Could she run away now?
Sucking in a breath, the redhead thought. Well what made fire? Gasoline was the first choice, but she highly doubted they would be using anything like THAT. Too toxic. And she wasn't sure about magical items that could start fires either. Was there like a spell? Wait, they were in potions. Never mind.
Residing to being quiet, the eleven year old put down her glitter pen and listened to the class, hoping that an answer would come to her soon.

Would he like that? "Not really. It'd be way too easy to catch something on fire by accident. Which would become a dangerous situation extremely fast." Brad wasn't that big a fan of fire, could the professor tell? Seeing someone being burned alive tended to do that to you.
Alas, fire was what they were dealing with. Unfortunately. He just hoped he didn't start freaking out in front of the entire class. "No. The fire would scorch the roof of your mouth, your tongue and your teeth, making it impossible for you to eat. Then you'd slowly starve to death." Not exactly a pretty picture.

Was it just him or was the Professor only cold towards him? Not that he cared or anything just wondering. His stare that did falter though as the Professor looked at him, he simply stared back refusing to look away and he grinned with pride when the old man directed his attention towards someone else. Battle won!
Kevin was getting more excited about this whole fire talk though, especially when he heard that it was possible to BREATHE fire themselves. How cool is THAT?! "Dogbreath potion" he said, trying his best to show no interest and looked back at the wall.

Reason: I wrote Daichi >__<
He'd see what he could do.. Bart was way to excited and bouncing at the professors answer. Could he really turn Bart into a dragon because that would be so cool. This man was quickly becoming the second years favorite. Especially if he could be a dragon.
With the next question he almost fell out of his chair from excitement. "We could really breath fire, you can do that?" That's when he heard book boy in front of him and of course he looked down to roll his eyes and mumbled about a wimp. Of course book boy would be afraid to be burned.
"Professor I'll do it! I'm not scared of being burned. I've been burnt before from a cauldron blowing up. Nothing a little burn paste can't fix." So could they start.. could they and could they breath fire yet?
Were they actually going to be breathing fire? She HAD to write this one down! Cool! If potions wasn't one of her favorite subjects before, it was now. Breathing fire!
But that other kid had a point. What about burning your mouth, or like the classroom? Was the teacher okay with letting the classroom catch on fire? What about the students? Would their parents be mad? Well there had to be a safe way to do this, or they wouldn't be allowing it at Hogwarts, right? Rockwell made it through all seven years, so she doubted they wouldn't handle things carefully.
ESPECIALLY if that boy was breathing fire. Further thought was needed.
And so Caelen thought, putting together a bunch of what other people said. The pain would have to be erased, riiiiight? Or else who would want to do the potion? And they wouldn't be teaching it in Hogwarts if it was dangerous? The wheels in her mind were turning until she finally thought of an answer a few minutes later.
SPOILER!!: question if professor decides to call on me
"Professor?" She hoped she wasn't being rude or talking out of turn. "What if there was some kind of coating thing you could drink that would numb your nerves so you couldn't feel it? Something like the wizard equivalent of Throat Coat and that numbing stuff they use at the dentist." She couldn't help herself. Everything was tumbling out of her mouth. "And if you have some protection, like a spell or a fire extinguisher on standby, you wouldn't really have to worry much about room damage."
It seemed logical to her. And it was the first thing she said. But now her stomach felt weird. She almost felt sick. Her face felt like it was as red as her hair. She wasn't used to speaking in front of this many people. What if everything she said sounded totally dumb? Was there even a potion for this stuff? Why didn't she know this?
Whatever. Her answer was out in the open and there was no taking it back now. It was all part of the adventure. And she might actually be right here. If the Muggles could think of it, why couldn't they? And if not, then she would have to invent it. Someday.
All of the thoughts of forgetting/not knowing answers dashed to the back of her mind.

Hawthorne thought for a moment before raising her hand. "I don't think it's entirely possible for a human to breathe fire exACTLY like a dragon..." she added emphasis to the end of the word exactly. It's certainly possible to SIMULATE that fire, though... I mean I saw a muggle 'fire breather'. They put the fuels directly into their mouth and spit it out in close proximity to the flame... Making it look like they are breathing fire. But for muggles this is really dangerous and causes a lot of deaths to circus performers." Wow, she was long winded. And she whipped out every million dollar word she knew! Maybe she just wanted to seem smart in front of the older students...

Ian heard that horrible Gryffie boy behind him speak. It took every ounce of energy he had to not beat his own head on the desk. That boy's voice just grated on him and irritated him immensely. Maybe they wouldn't be partners. That would be a treat, wouldn't it, being partners with that arrogant little git.
*Rom smiled a little to himself. It was a bit obvious that he had impressed the new potions professor. Cece would be happy he thought. Thinking over the next question he soon raised his hand again.*
"A dragon has scales inside its throat and nostrils to protect its self from the gases that create the fire. These gases would be to strong and harmful to humans. Dragons can save up these gases for fire breathing where as humans release their gases via flatulence or eructation. Obviously burning and heat of some sort would be felt. Unless a potion or spell is put in place I would guess that it would feel like heart burn or acid reflux. So yes it could be possible with the right potions and magic..."
*Rom was not about to say burp and fart in class so he hoped flatulence and eructation worked. As cool as it would be to breath fire he had a feeling it would really hurt.*
"Well, professor," Haruka started. "I don't really think that it's possible for us to breath fire exactly like a dragon can. Our bodies just aren't built for that." She thought about it for a second. "Though maybe it could be copied on a lesser scale, with something to protect our bodies, through a potion or spell..." Wait a minute. "Is that what we're doing today, sir?" Haruka could feel herself getting excited. Dragons were pretty cool. And fire, which is the complete opposite of water, is also okay in her book. 'Unless it's hurting people, of course. Water can hurt people too, though. Ugh.' She shook her head to clear her rambling thoughts.

Believe it or not that was still sinking in for her. She gave him a quick nod to add to the grin before noticing a waving Jun from the corner of her eyes. Lex waved back, giving him a smile too before her attention was turned to the walls again. No one would have ever thought to turn this place blue. Seriously. Dungeons weren't exactly known for that colour....
While gazing she vaguely heard voices all around her but by the time she snapped out of her little daze the Professor was speaking again. Something about fire and breathing it....but she had no idea what he was on about.
Er....Lex looked around, waiting for someone to speak up and give her the gist of what was going on. "Fire's cool, yeah, I like fire." No really, what were they talking about? She had the strangest feeling she was gonna be rambling her way through this. "And breathing it's cool too. Yup." Somebody help her out her, the girl was drowning and it SHOWED in her expression.
"I'll agree with Alice though, anything's possible."Nod. When in doubt, agree with Alice.

Vesper, like most of her peers, didn't think fire-breathing with a dragon's intensity was possible....more because of the human body's physically limitations. They'd probably hurt their throats and lips if they were to try that...
"I don't think we could breath that kind of fire...but sure. Circus people do something similar, fueling the fire with...proofed consumable liquids."...meaning things that were flammable, obviously....Sadly enough, Ves could feel her focus already slipping. She itched to open her notebook again and continue that sketch of the treehouse..."We've got magic, though...Maybe there's a spell that would protect our throats and lips...."
Hmmm.
She didn't want to perform something like that in this class, though...Unless it was a charm. It'd be a charm, right? Otherwise.......heeeeeeeeeeeh.

Caelen thought some more, biting her lip and playing with her pen. She liked the idea of scales, and scaling down the fire. But would scales coat the throat properly? Well, she assumed that was true, and scaling down the fire meant...
"Would all of this mean that we're basically becoming a dragon?" Wait, that sounded dumb. She was going to have to work her way out of this. "Not fully of course, but assuming the fire breathing properties and the scales." She smiled at the kid who mentioned the scales. So many geniuses in the classroom!
"So the potion would have to allow us to have some of the properties without hurting ourselves, correct? Or anyone else. And is it temporary?" She did not want to be a dragon the rest of her life. She imagined that she would have a tough time blowing out birthday candles.
The shortie felt like she was on a roll. Why was she so nervous before? The redhead was right in her element. And she loved it. She was helping! Okay, so she was taking people's anwsers and combining them. Whatever. It was still sort of helping.
And still, fire breathing? Cool! Maybe this would make Mel like potions! Because who wouldn't want to breathe fire? Her brother would flip.

Katarina sat up straighter in her cushioned chair, thinking hard about the question. She wouldn't refer to herself as a dragon expert or anything of the sort, but she had read a lot about them growing up, and a human breathing dragon-like flames didn't seem possible.
"Sir," Katarina started, her hand in the air so as not to seem impolite. "I don't think it's possible to recreate fire exactly like a dragon's. Maybe something similar, but not exactly." She gave her opinion, then biting her lip as she thought of a question. "Do different dragons create different types of fire, sir?"
"You're right, lady." Cosgrach smiled at the Ravenclaw. 'Course she was right. She was a Ravenclaw. Could he expect less?

Hah! Adrienne had gotten something right. Er, sort of... it was really one of those open-ended opinion questions where all answers could be right, but still! She got a smile and a 'you're right', so in her opinion she was winning in this particular situation. And obviously firebreathing was the best talent of a dragon, because it was the most deadly. Except for maybe claws or teeth, but eh, those were less exciting.

Adrienne sat up a bit straighter, as comfy as her chair was, to pay a bit more attention to the subject. Because if they were making potions for themselves that would cause them to breathe fire, that would be awesome. Seriously, she might die of excitement. And then she could terrify people back home in Aix... yeah, that would be possibly the coolest thing they were going to do all year. She was already liking this Potions professor.
"Well, I guess the question to ask before that is, how do dragons breathe fire?" Adrienne wasn't sure if some of the other students knew the answer to that, but she certainly didn't. "Like, is there a separate internal organ? Because then obviously people couldn't alter themselves that much with just a potion." Maybe with some hardcore transfiguration, but not a potion. "Or does it have to do with just heatproofing your mouth or something, in which case it might be plausible to recreate."
As the class thought, Caelen doodled the ideas on her parchement. She was listening, no really she was, but this was how she thought of grand ideas. Well, sort of. She thought of many ideas this way, though most of them weren't planned enough to come together. She wasn't much of a planner to be honest.
As she drew, a thought started ebbing in her mind. They would need something relatively safe to start the reaction and the thing that would be reacting to cause fire. That was basic science, yes? And wasn't that how fireplaces worked? So all they needed was something semi-safe that could start a fire within someone and then something to react. And boom, dragon breath. Literally.
"Is there anything that can react to the body to cause the fire breath?" Wasn't that what they were supposed to be figuring out? "Like an ingredient or several that combine and then mix with something inside your body to make the fire?" She supposed that sounded smart. It would have to be a safe organ of course. So the heart was out. Though she liked the idea of it pumping into your blood.

They were going to breathe fire like a dragon? How cool was that? Michael glanced over to 'Bunny' to see what she thought of that before raising his hand to have a go at answering the Professor's question. "Well I don't think we can breathe fire exactly like a dragon because they have magical abilities that we don't." Sad but true.
"Although we can replicate I suppose. Muggle entertainers do it. They pour a kind of fuel into their mouths and then blow on an open flame. It looks as though they are breathing fire." The first time he had seen it,he had been sure muggles had accomplished something wizards hadn't.

Questions about breathing fire like dragons? Was that possible? She had no idea honestly, but she certainly would love to know if they could or not! But Josette didn't raise her hand right away, she sort of softly muttered to herself, "I don't know...But that would be pretty cool if we could..." Maybe there was some sort of incantation that they could learn? Or perhaps a potion they could brew that would allow some sort of temporary gift to do so. She looked at the Professor waiting to see what he would say.
