The class looks the same with two little-but-effective changes: instead of stools, there are proper chairs with soft cushions to sit and lean back on. The Professor cares about his students' posture, apparently, because they are charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated.
The second change is the walls: they are now a soft, calming blue. He is desperate to avoid blasting cauldrons, and muggles claim this colour calms people down.
He opens the door 15 minutes before the class time and sits at his desk to wait for the students to arrive, with a neutral expression on his face.
OOC: Come in, take your seats! The class will resume approximately 7 hours later. You may chat among yourselves, but please don't go overboard with it. Thanks!
The lesson is in progress now, so do not post your late arrival and just RP as if you have been there all along!
Potion progress
• 3 goose feathers (chopped WELL that they look like powder)
• 5 square centimetres of parasites (mycosis fungus)
• Roughly 2 square centimetres fire-crab shell (prepared)
• One fire slug
• 8 drops of salamander blood
• Some flobberworm mucus (depends on how much rigidity one wants)
1. Fill your cauldron 1/3 with water.
2. Add powdered goose feather. Stir clockwise until it looks homogenous and then turn the heater to high.
3. Get your pestle and mortar, crush the parasites for thirty seconds or so, fill the mortar with water, shake it for them to mix better and add it slowly to the potion.
4. Stir counter clock-wise for 7 times and turn off the heater. Let it cool until no vapour is seen. This should take about 5 minutes.
5. Take the fire crab shell but do not add it! Hold it with a metal spoon, lower it nicely into the potion just inside the surface—make sure it doesn’t splash water AT ALL—then start stirring 1 time clockwise, 1 time counter clockwise for 12 times in total. Each stir should take about ten seconds for it to spread thoroughly. Once done with stirring, get it out and put it away on a tissue.
6. Wait for another minute and cut the slug vertically into two in the meantime, add the pieces and stay away from the cauldron as far as you can. If you’ve done everything correctly, the surface should explode harmlessly and start burning. Put it out with your breath ONLY, so you’d better hurry before the fire spreads to the whole surface.
7. Add 8 drops of salamander blood. Alternate between two stirs counter-clock wise, two stirs clock-wise. Repeat for four times. (So you should stir 16 times in total.)
8. Add flobberworm’s mucus to keep it in your mouth better (no more than a tablespoon, not a must).
9. Enjoy.
Beverly was so concentrated on a tiny smudge on the desk she nearly jumped when she heard a familiar voice. Okay. You can't just do THAT to people. Especially ones who were already jumpy to begin with.
She pretended it had no effect on her.
"I might not have to, I've read hundreds of books on potions," she said, still keeping her gaze fixed on the smudge. Beverly knew who it was. It was the boy from the train station. Besides, she wasn't lying. Potions was a family thing and she never seem to escape it, nor did her ambitions.
"But maybe this Professor has an unorthodox way of teaching potions. Or maybe he might showing us a potion of his own creation." Had she thought of that?
Michael leaned over to her a little a smile playing on his lips. "I promise no one is going to bite you." Unless of course she got on the wrong side of Alice Fischer then he couldn't actually promise that. "But if anyone tries, I will stop them."
He gave her a nudge with his elbow. "Come on, you can't be a frightened little bunny all your life."
*Walking in with his book, wand, and other things he was asked to bring to class. Finding an empty seat he looked around for anyone he knew. Rom didn't have many friends, or none for that matter but he still recognized a few students he had talked to. Like the one boy from Diagon Alley in first year. Other than that he didn't really know anyone and that was fine by him. The chairs were very comfortable and the blue very calming.*
"Hmmm... Interesting."
Her first magical class ever! Gwen looked around, and snagged a seat not too far back, not too close to the front on the left side where she thought she would draw the least attention. Not that she was looking to avoid attention, it was just a habit. As soon as she sat down she gasped, the seat moved and conformed to her body. It was weirdly super-comfortable. She relaxed into it. This was going to be so fun! Like cooking, but with magic.
SPOILER!!: Let's just pretend their conversation on the train ended fairly inconsequentially when they arrived

"Welcome to Hogwarts, Professor." He didn't catch the name at the beginning of term during the Headmistress's speech. "Hope you like it here." He wanted to sound like a grown wizard and yes consistency in education was important so maybe this fella would stay if he thought the students here were reasonable, mature, and welcoming.
And then there was Tobias's embarrassing greeting. Cutty tried not to laugh at the third year Pufferton, but he was however smirking as he took a seat. It was really, really comfortable. Ugh! Almost too comfortable. Between the seat and the Puff he might have learned nothing, so Cuttz thought it best to remove a few books from his bag and arrange them on his seat so as to keep sharp and alert.
Adrienne entered the Potions classroom and noticed one thing first off- chairs! Well that was certainly a welcome difference from Lafay's level of comfort for the classroom, much as she had enjoyed her lessons. So far this seemed promising, at least. If things went terribly, at least she'd be comfortable while she was bored. "Professor," she said, "Welcome to Hogwarts." She was aware she was practically regurgitating what everyone else had said, but she didn't have anything else to say other than a cutting remark about the colour of the walls, and she didn't want to get on his bad side already. Instead, she took a moment to look around for someone she knew and wouldn't hate spending the next hour sitting next to.
Ah! The second year Snake, what was his name again? Cutty? As antagonistic as he and Tora may have been, the boy had definitely been very polite to her on the train, and he spoke a bit of French, which made things interesting. She plopped herself into a chair next to him and couldn't help but grin at how comfortable it was. Ahh yes, she was going to enjoy this lesson.
"Cutty, haven't seen you since the train," she said, by way of a greeting. "How've you been?" May as well chat a bit before the class started, after all everyone else seemed to be doing it and from appearances, at least, this professor was going to be a lot less... strict about such matters than Lafay was.

Readjusting her shoulder bag strap, Lily entered the potions classroom that formerly belonged to Lafay. The seventh year didn't know what to think about a new professor in the potions position. All she had ever known was Lafay and had somewhat gotten comfortable with the prospect of having Lafay for everything potion. So it was definitely uncharacteristic to walk into the classroom and see blue....
But it looked nice, and it put a smile on Lily's face. Was this new professor a Ravenclaw trying to show off his house pride even in the dank dungeons? Whatever the case was, the seventh year nodded once. "Professor Culloden." She said in greeting to the new professor. Yes, she was a Ravenclaw and did her homework about the new professors and staff members, or at least all she could. The seventh year made her way over to a seat near a couple other claws and sat down, her face first contorting in confusion before realizing what was happening to the chairs. So far, this new professor was impressing her...

Bay quickly went into the classroom, hoping to find someone he knew and fast. He lifted his head up to say "Hello Professor" and instantly found Cucumber.. He moved super fast and almost bumped a desk. "sorry" he mumbled…
he finally reached his destination and sat down. "Hey Cucumber.. I'm glad I get to sit beside you" while putting his arm around her.
"But maybe this Professor has an unorthodox way of teaching potions. Or maybe he might showing us a potion of his own creation." Had she thought of that?

A potion of his own creation? Train Boy had her there -- she was all about original potions, but still...Oh. Wait. Bite? She didn't doubt that. Rumor has it there's a bitter at school, but Bev wasn't in search for that. Nope. She'd happily stay away from them.
She was already nervous enough she didn't react much to the nudge, but she did raise her head enough to look at him, managing a tiny smile. "You sound like such a Gryffindor, did you know that?" It was more of a statement.
Only Gryffindors would go all "I will stop them" and brothers. Her brother did that a lot.
"I suppose it won't hurt," Bev sighed and shrugged. She just hoped he knew that now she was naming him her personal shield in case a crazy student blew up a cauldron or something.

Seriously hoping someone would come and join her so that she was not alone, Lux was thrilled when Bay appeared. "Hey you, Bay. I'm glad too." Happily she hugged him when he put his arm around her. Now she had someone awesome to sit with, she was happy!
The change of the Potions classroom was evident the minute Adi stepped into the room. This was a good kind of change! He really liked the blue! And those chairs! They looked mighty comfortable!
The new Professor was seated at the desk. Adi was going to miss Lafay. "Hello, Professor,'' he said politely and he threw a smile in too. Now to try out one of those chairs! He grinned at Ian and Bri. This was Bri's first lesson. He hoped she was excited. Adi made himself comfortable. And that wasn't too hard considering the chairs were.
After getting over the shock of the chair changing under and around her, Bri relaxed and started to pull out the things will need for her first potions class. When she was done, she glanced around the room looking at all the students. She saw a boy that she recognized grinning at her. She smiled back. "Hi Adi. How are you?" The brunette asked the older boy.

Its just weird seeing another Professor sitting there instead of Lafay. But the new Professor really did a great job with the classroom. Blue everywhere. He wondered if the new Professor was a Ravenclaw alumnus.
"Hello, Professor." he greeted the man before he went to find himself a seat. When he took a seat in one of the empty chair, its morphed to fit his figure perfectly. COOL!

Ahh there we go. He managed to get her to look up and he even got a smile out of her. Michael let out a laugh. "That's because I am little bunny." Apparently his red and gold was really starting to show. And yep that was going to be her nickname from now on.
"That a girl." He said giving her a pat on the back. No need to be shy around him at all.

Okay, this wasn't quite what Brad was expecting when he stepped into the Potions classroom. Since it was in the dungeons, he was expecting it to be dark, dreary and maybe damp. But it was actually quite nice. And none of those stupid plastic chairs like at his old school.
And apparently they were also expected to greet the professor. He could do that. "Hello professor." Yep, see? Easy.

First classes. Oh well. At least it was going to be Potions. It would be one of the first classes Astrid would attend this term and in a new school. Kinda exciting but scary, right? The brunette made her way to the Potions classroom hoping she wouldn't be late for her first class everrrrr. It was important, you see? Yeah. Okay.
... And hello, Professor person. "Hello, Professor," she said... because... what do you call someone you don't know. She didn't wanna go 'hey you' at someone so important. Astrid went to find a seat and waited for her classmates to arrive.

Robes, blech they weren’t comfortable. If she could go to school wearing something other than an itchy wool skirt she would be happy. Even if it was a clown suit – that would probably be a lot more comfortable than this stuff.
Amelia frowned at her robes and continued to itch her knee as she made her way into the Potion laboratory. It wasn’t as if she was nervous, no, nope not at all. Amelia Johanson didn’t get nervous or nervy at all.
She was perfectly normal.
If thinking she might have to run for the hills if this new Professor wasn’t up to par. She liked Lafay, Lafay was safe in the fire-breathing-dragon way of the word. She cast Professor whatever-his-name-actually-was a look before taking a seat in the back of the classroom.
“Hello Professor” she grumbled out in not half a kind of way as she normally would have used. There was one thing people never knew about her and that, was that she didn’t exactly like change…which was entire ironic considering the ever fluxing and temperamental state of her looks. Stupid metamorphamagusness…why couldn’t she have just been born normal like West, Kaiden, or even Macabre.

So... what was with trying to make a dungeon classroom look not like a dungeon? What was this, Muggle Studies? He didn't find the blue calming, he had liked how it used to be so the change was annoying more than anything, and too Ravenclaw, even if it matched his eyes perfectly. Well, at least West had high hopes for the professor after their chat and how willing he'd been to let West do what he needed and whatever.
West eyed the chairs... and eyed the people and who was sitting where, and then sat next to Penelope. Because he hadn't for a while and because he was still kind of warming up to things and it was just a better idea not to put himself where his brain would think the worst and his heart would get all bitter and sad.
And also because Loppy. He gave her a smile as he sat in a chair that looked like it'd be the most uncomfortable thing ever. See he actually liked stools normally because they were tall and meant he was more comfortable with his long legs... these ones looked like they'd be practically knees to ears. But then it changed. It actually changed to fit the whole length of him. Awesome. Okay.
So... lets see how the rest of this goes then.

He nodded at the professor before settling in a seat on the side nearest the door toward the middle of the classroom. He began to lay out his required items before him to prepare for the instruction.

He blinked at her badge in surprise for a moment, but shook it off. This explained a lot. "Welcome," he said back, and noted she sat in front.

TWO more of his previous house. He nodded at them, and was relieved. He noted Sophie's sigh, but he knew she was going to like the changes. Those stools and gloomy walls were... inhumane.

Reason: Coding is bound to fail when I'm late to school.
Dragons, this guy had her attention. Her eyes widened in glee as she heard the word, her whole body seemed to sit up straighter and she still couldn’t get a handle on the damn itching. It was like the sneezing powder incident but minus the sneezing.
Raising her arm up into the air the sixth year looked the new Professor hard in the eyes. Really she was just trying to remember his name – but it was a bit intimidating in the pick me or I’ll pluck every last strand of hair off of your body way. Not that she wouldn't do that...she just might.
”Dragons are creatures that exist not only in the magical world but they are referenced in the muggle world as well…in the Asian art they are a symbol of imperial power and strength…and also good luck” she took a quick breath before adding the final bit that she knew about dragons in art, that is, ”in Chinese art in particular they are strongly associated with water and they were believed to be the rules of moving bodies of water.”
What? And everyone was going to say heartstrings and wands and scales and flying and fire bellies right? And she went with water…because that made total and complete sense.

...errr, that bag? Cosgrach was too distracted by it to answer her greeting, and his eyebrows shot in the air as it was... apparently... a bag for him. He took it with a frown and peeked inside.
Candies? How old did she think he was? 4? An honourable man like him enjoyed CAKES, thank you very much.
"Thank you," he said nevertheless, set them beside his chair and smiled at her cordially.

He surveyed them all, and clapped once to get their attention.
"Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Cosgrach Culloden,"not grandma Lafay, Sophie,"and I am your new potions professor." What else should he say? Anything? Questions? Okay.
"Before we start brewing, let’s have a little chat about dragons, shall we? What are they, what is special about them? Which trait of a dragon would you like to have?"[/COLOR]
OOC: The class has started, so please don't post your characters arriving late! Just pretend they have been there all along.
It will continue 12 hours later.
She frowned when she saw his frown. Does he not approve? Melek was about to sigh when he gave a smile and thanked her. "Your welcome." Mel beamed and went to sit down. Her eyes widen and she gave a smile of approval when the seat fit her perfectly. Oh class is starting! Mel looked at the professor and listened to what he ha said. Dragons? Oh how delightful! She loved magical creatures! Her hand shot up and she answered, "Their skin is really hard to hurt... and also makes really good gloves..." To the next part she replied with, "I think the trait I would want is their strength..." She tilted her head and looked at the professor. Melek went silent.

Er.........dragons?
What did dragons have to do with potions? "They breathe fire......?" Way to go, Captain Obvious. But Brad guessed he shouldn't be to hard on himself, he been taken off guard by the question. Because he wasn't used to potions starting off with dragons. Their various parts as ingredients maybe. Anyway, he prepared himself to take notes, because it seemed like it was going to be one of those classes.

*Romulus' hand shot up in the air as he blurted out the answer. He had read many books on dragons so of course he sounded like a textbook.*
"Dragons are giant winged, fire-breathing reptiles. Widely regarded as terrifying yet awe-inspiring, they can be found all over the world and are frequently referred to in Asian and medieval European folklore. Able to fly and breathe fire through their nostrils, they are one of the most dangerous and hardest to conceal creatures in the wizarding world. The Ministry of Magic classifies them as XXXXX, most dangerous, or known wizard killers. Despite how dangerous they are, there are people who are trained to work with them, called dragon keepers, or dragonologists. And I would have to go with the fire. You would never be cold and you get all the s'mores you want."
*Rom said this last bit a little more quietly. It was very impractical to breath fire. It might feel like the acid reflux he kept seeing on the muggle T.V. commercials.*
Dragons? Bri was a bit confused, but shrugged. 'Must be a reason, and we will find out soon.' Bri thought to herself. She was going to raise her hand and say something, but all she really knew about dragons was stuff she read in fantasy books, and wasn't sure it they were true or not. So the young girl just sat there, and listen to her fellow classmates and teacher.
Tobias just sort of greeted the man in reply again, casually forgetting he'd already said that. But only for a moment (wherein the staring sort of... continued). But then, the Hufflepuff kind if shook himself out of it, blinking fast. Wow, um... okay.
That was... new.
For some inexplicable reason, Toby seemed to come over all weirdly shy, and simply afforded the new professor a nod in response to the 'everything okay?' question. He would totally talk. Totally. Just, y'know, give him a moment...
Instead Tobias found himself fidgeting more than ever, drumming his fingers slightly before eventually grabbing a spare quill from his bag to keep his hands occupied. Luckily enough, the class soon started, giving him something to throw all his attentions onto.
Dragons?
The Hufflepuff raised his hand instantly, but when he spoke his words went all funny. "Kinda impervious. To magic. The scales. IthinkmaybeIdon'tknow." He lowered his hand again and inwardly berated himself. Greeeaaaat start to the term; why had his words done the thing. Toby decided that never mind, there was always the next question, so he hitched a grin onto his face and pretended like that had been totally normal.

"Hello, badger, and eagle." Smile, bow, try not to grade on first impression.
Yep. ------------------------ He surveyed them all, and clapped once to get their attention.

Charlotte hadn't exactly wanted to speak up in class, not now, not ever, but the man called her an "eagle" which was a Ravenclaw, if she remembered correctly? She was wearing green robes...and even if he was actually calling her a Hufflepuff, there was no way green robes meant Huffie either so she just didn't get why he'd assume that's what she was. Did she look like one of the two?
She waited for a chance to correct him -- it was always good to let professors know when they were wrong, right? -- and when he asked the class a question about dragons, her hand shot up in the air and she waited to be called on.
"Um..well..first of all, I'm in Slytherin...just so you know. Not Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw." Surely that was respectful enough. "And, also, dragons are huge reptile lizard things that can fly and blow fire and are considered magical creatures......or something." Charlotte didn't really know much about dragons and she didn't understand how in the world this had anything to do with Potions.
Ascanius didn't bother saying hello or even acknowledging the Professor's existence. Just another mindless, stupid Professor who was going to bore him for forty minutes to an hour. And he had an ugly face.
Which mattered. Always.
As to the dragon question, Ascanius didn't care. And Ascanius dug silence in lessons. Everyone else was going to shove answers down his throat anyway, yeah?
But if he WAS going to answer, he would have said that they were unable to be domesticated. 'Cause they were dragons. Duh.

Sander knew the answer to that. His only problem was how to provide it. Should wait for the Professor to call on each one of them, or should he raise his hand and wait to be acknowledged.....or...
"Sander it's simple. Don't over think the problem? Just answer." Sander thought to himself.
So he slowly raised his hand and gave the best answer he could.
"Professor, dragons are primarily gigantic reptiles that fly and all of them are fire breathing." Okay that was the answer to the first question.
Second question? A little bit harder. What makes them special?
"They are hard to kill and they live long for a very long time unless they are killed by poachers. Almost every part of their anatomy is valuable and are highly marketable items."
Okay now the last question. Which trait would he like to have?
"The trait I would like to possess would be it's fire breathing abilities." Sander provided his last answer.
Yes it would be cool to breath down the neck of your opponent, or when you need to cook something, just breath on it and it would be cooked super well done.
