................Olly hadn't really been paying much attention to the chalk board until she'd taken a seat. After nodding in greeting at the professor of course. No need to be rude to the people who would be teaching her the things she needed to pass her OWLs with decent grades. However, now she wasn't ENTIRELY sure if this was one of those people who would teach her something useful.

Err.

Somebody liked numbers, eh?

And they had to shout numbers? Was she in the right classroom? She glanced around herself, even turning around fully in her seat to make sure she was able to take everything in. No, there were a couple of people she recognized. Some of which were actually shouting numbers at the professor. He couldn't be serious, could he? What on Earth? She was NOT going to go about shouting numbers. That was so NOT why she'd come here.

Maybe she could just write it on a piece of parchment and hold it up like a judge in one of those Muggle Topmodel TV-shows.

He wasn't late, 'kay? Lucian just HAD to finish his last pancake. It'd be blasphemy if he didn't.

No pancake left behind. 'Kay? Good.

He dashed through the halls until he arrived at his destination, skidding in and flopping on a seat on the back near some older students. He hadn't missed anything, right? Nah.

Shouting numbers? OKAY. "Three-point-one-four-one-five-nine..." They got the gist, right? He'd liked that number ever since...well, since the professor that was his dad mentioned it.

Sitting at his seat now, Adi eyed this strange Professor. He seemed a bit....crazy, yes? And why in the world had he told him well done? Well done on having the name Rehman?

Ohh! Random number? Sure! Why not? Adi jumped up from his seat and said rather loudly, "One thousand and one!''

A number, a random number. He thought a moment. He couldn't use his favorite number, since that really wouldn't be random. No. Maybe his grandmothers phone number. No,not random. It was when it was first assigned to her, but now it had purpose. "I know!" he exclaimed as he hopped to his feet. "Nine hundred and seventy four."

A Random number. So many numbers to choose from. Wonder if we could do imaginary numbers. Those are fun. Nigel ponder from his seat for a couple seconds then answered.

"Sixty Eight"

Even numbers were always nice.

Well, heck yeah!

Sophie did a little mental fist pump. She wasn't disturbed by the randomness of the first question. Or, first request, should she say. Instead, she was just beside herself that it was so easy she could probably pass this class with a BREEEEEEEZE.

"Seven!" she said, saying the number even as she was still standing up. She'd actually thought about something like two thousand four hundred eighty-four, but then...what if the professor suddenly announced that whatever number they'd said was the number of pages of homework they had to do?! Yeah, seven was good and safe. It was enough to go on to do a decent assignment, but if this did equal the number of homework pages, she wasn't confined to the common room for the rest of her life or something.

Nuuuuumbers. This required REAL thinking, but hey Abbi could do that she was a fairy! Fairies could do anything! Plus mommy always told her that even though her brain was small it could do LOTS and LOTS of things which meant she was clever. Mhhhm.

Listening along, Abbi sniffled some giggles at the way this Professor spoke. EVERYTHING was just revolved around numbers, but hey it suited his subject so nothing wrong with it.

"TWO THOUSAND MILLION BILLION GAZILLION!" She shouted at him...politely?

There. That was her random number.

Jayden slowly raised her hand, smiling up at the professor when her name was called. "Sixteen!" She answered cheerfully, it was her favorite number, after all.. so maybe not exactly random - but it was the only number occupying her head.

Her name meant something in GREEK? Well if that didn't say she was super awesome, then she didn't know what did. She grinned at the Professor and waited while he greeted everyone else. Did this man have a number fetish or did all Arithmancy teachers speak like that? Personally, she didn't think so, but she wasn't to know. No use bringing it up then.

FIRST NUMBER?

"FIFTEEN AND A HALF," she blurted. "Fifteen point five." Add a grin into that.

The cutest grin you've ever seen, FYI.

Ariel sneaked into the back of the class, tossing her bag under her chair. Pfft, as far as she was concerned, she was on time. She had gotten here at the time class was supposed to start.

Joining in with the other students, she stood up from her desk and called out a number. "Fifty seven!"

Oh. The oddities of this task suddenly dawned on her. Why were they shouting out random numbers? Eh, she supposed she'd find out soon enough...

Schuyler slipped into one of the few seats left in the classroom. She dropped her bag and scooted her chair in, only to see at that exact moment that there was a place right by Olly. Honestly? Right when she had sat down? Snatching her bag again, she swiftly moved from her current seat to the one by her friend. Her bag fell onto the desk as she sat. "Hey." There. No more relocating.

Now, what was this on the board? W3lc0m3 2 AR1THMANCY. That was cheesy. But Schuyler liked it anyway. In fact, she regarded the number-words for another second and came to the conclusion that it would look much cooler written all graffiti-like. It was a shame the prof hadn't thought of that.

And this old man's first instruction was to stand up and shout a random number. Did they really have to stand? That seemed unnecessary. But if he wanted some numbers, Schuyler would give him one. She opened her mouth to say 'seven,' when some little girl stood right up and beat her to it. Pfft. Figures. "Nine." She'd settle for a nine.

Taylor grumbled, coming into the classroom. She hated Arithmancy because it was so difficult. Tay glanced at the board and got a weird look. What is with the weird combinations of numbers and letters. Taylor rolled her eyes at them then smiled at the professor, "Hello." She slipped into a seat... but then the professor wanted them to stand and shout a random number so she did, "2!"

"Mmhmm! Okay! Yes, great work!"

"You there? I didn't hear your number, yes please thank you."

"Great, Hufflepuff work. Just great, thank you."

"You only need to give your number ONCE, please and thanks. No need to keep at it."


"You have still not said a NUMB3R. Can I have a volunt33r to please explain to this confused young woman what a NUMB3R is? Yes please? She may need the nurse."

"Yes, okay, okay. Zero is excellent, great job."

"More Hufflepuffs. I knew you'd excel in this, yes yes! History doesn't lie or fail, thanks!"

"Decimals are good, great work, very good yes thanks."

"Did you need the loo, too?"

"Exactly! Yes! Yes, yes yes, you are doing it exactly right!"

"Yes, I think so, I think that is exactly right. Random number, thanks yes!"

"Solid number, great work, good job. Anyone know if it's prime?"

"A little louder please, yes? Okay."

"Two to you, t00! Yes thank you too!"

Professor French cleared his throat to begin again, "I'm going to need someone to perform the ancient Egyptian art of ADDITION on all the numbers shouted! What RANDOM NUMBER have we created here today as a class??? Anyone? Please perform the addition."


OOC: No more shouting numbers, K? We're ADDING the random #'s now. Add the #s. HAVE FUN WIH THAT LOL. But you may still arrive if you want. OPEN DOOR CLASS.

You see, Tobias WOULD have tried doing the additions but he was in a bit of a pickle for a few reasons.

1. He hadn't been writing the numbers down and had forgotten basically all of them
2. His maths skills were shocking and somehow he always managed to screw up even the simplest of sums
3. Someone had DEFINITELY called out the number 'R2D2' and Tobias hated algebra

Still, he bent over his parchment anyway and made a few notes. Namely what they'd done so far, calling out random numbers and having to add them. Just in case it was important. Maybe. Somehow.

Someone else could do the difficult part; there were a ton of Ravenclaws AND West Odessa in here.

"Yeah, can i go?"

Nigel did wonder if he was kidding or being rhetorical. But sure why not go to the loo. It would save him from trying to add all these crazy random numbers. It was not something Nigel wanted to do.

Plus there was the fact that Nigel did not write any of the numbers down. So... Yeah. Though Nigel could not comprehend what the number sixty eight had to do with the loo. Strange.

Whoa. Add ALL of those numbers?

Lucian glanced down at his parchment, where for a reason he jotted down the numbers being shouted out, but he'd missed most of them. He ruffled his hair and glanced around. This dude was serious, huh?

Okay... Lets see...

Well. That...didn't look right. Lucian chewed on the tip of his quill. M'no. The number on his parchment was too big. Impossible. Yet, he raised his hand. "Erm, well, it has to be around the million-billion-gazillion...?" A hint to the one adding them all up. His eyes darted to the Gryffindor girl who'd said that, then he looked at the professor like: Is that even possible?

Up popped her hand.

"A rather big one, Sir," she said seriously, as you could see from her VERY serious expression (that felt unnatural). Nope. She couldn't do it anymore and she broke out into a grin, lowering her hand. Technically, she'd been right because it should make a 'rather big number'. Unless it was some silly answer. Probably was. One, maybe? It was totally going to be one now. Wasn't it? Silly Arithmancy stuffs. Hopefully someone had a better ide- OHHH.

"INFINITY."

What in the name of Merlin...

This was not like any Arithmancy class Penelope had ever attended. It was just shouting random numbers right now - which was easy so no complaints there - but the professor seemed kinda odd. Which also didn't have to be a bad thing but...still. She wasn't used to it. And she definitely hadn't kept track of all the numbers that had been shouted, so there was no way she was gonna be the person to add them all up. Nope. She was just gonna sit here and try to pay attention to whoever actually remembered all the numbers enough to add them together.

Olly was too busy staring at the professor in confusion to notice Schuyler at first. That is, until she moved to sit next to her. THEN she did notice her of course. "Hi." At least they could sit through the insanity - because seriously, what else?! - of this professor together.

She glanced at her friend for a moment when she did shout a number (nine, interesting) only to have her attention abruptly diverted back to the professor when he addressed her. Wait...what? "What?!" History doesn't lie or fail? What was that supposed to mean? They weren't in History of Magic Class. So what on Earth was he talking about? HUH?

...and then he asked them to ADD UP the numbers. Olly turned to full on stare at Schuyler at this. "Is he serious?!" She didn't even bother lowering her voice as she looked around at the other students again. Some of which were trying to provide answers. "Why?!" That queston was directed at the professor again, accompanied by an incredulous look. Again,

HUH?

"I said my number the first time you asked its 79669194962" Sarah said. Sarah laughed at the thought of HER needed a nurse. "and you need St. Mungo's" she said under her breath.

Now onto addition, "including my own number, exluding Abbie's as I need to to write it down to add that, yet mentally so far the number is 79669195219.14159 + R2D2 and then plus Abbie's number which is TWO THOUSAND MILLION BILLION GAZILLION. So let me add Abbie's number to the calculation". She took out a new page and began to write out TWO THOUSAND MILLION BILLION GAZILLION in numbers. First 2 then a lot of zeroes.

In between writing she said, "We can all speak rubbish and give a rubbish answer, as like professor like student. Even the professor is excersising his creativity this lesson so so can we"

Since this professor didn't really seem to care much what they did, she turned to the girl next to her who had just answered with a string of numbers that Tora was fairly certain was incorrect. Might as well have fun with this. "Ahhh. I suggest you don't actually write out all those zeros as it will take over your lifetime. Instead just add them on to the number would be two million billion gazillion seventy-nine billion, six hundred sixty-nine million, one hundred ninety-five thousand, two hundred and nineteen, point one four one five nine plus R2D2. Although I believe you did some of that math incorrectly there in which case the actual answer would be two million billion gazillion seventy-nine billion, six hundred forty- three million, two hundred ninety-five thousand, two hundred and twenty-one R-D, point one four eight five nine. As you can see I added in the R2-D2 and fixed a couple of your calculations." She winked and grinned at the other girl to let her know that she was just playing along. She agreed, if this guy wasn't going to give straight answers, then the only way to respond was with even more crooked ones

Blink. Blink. PROFESSORSAYWHATNOW?

Ella just sort of stared, and stared, and continued to blink. She hadn't even been taking notes! MEEP! What would Hadley think?

Seeing as the Professor had said he needed someone to perform the addition and not everyone, the blonde just sort of drummed her fingers on her desk and wondered what this had to do with anything.

Was this some sort of joke or?

Was she going to add the numbers? No. Exactly why she hated doing math in Arithmancy. They added and had to deal with numbers. But this was different from the previous terms. This class made no sense and Kat really wanted to leave. Maybe if she looked constipated enough, Professor French would let her go to the loo but they all knew that she wouldn't come back. Class was ridiculous!

........... No. Still no.

Kat just wrote down numbers but didn't add the random numbers shouted in class. No thanks. She wanted to doodle anyway, and she wasn't learning anything at all in this class.

Minerva looked around.. How on earth were they suppose to know which numbers were called out. Now one was writing them down. This guy might just being the leader of the wacka doodles here at school. President Wacka doodle right in front of her very eyes. Why had she come into this class. She missed Hadley all of the sudden. Not that the woman had left, but she wasn't learning anything from this.


She started doodling with her quill instead of listening. They could all do their yelling and screaming. Min was going to sit and doodle for now. Once class actually started to happen she would pay attention, but for now she was over the random ways of this man. It just was odd... Did he have some ice cream from that machine? She hoped they removed it, but if they didn't this man needed Professor Lafay stat.

Er...Jezzabelle hadn't kept track of the numbers. She was sure that math wouldn't be a good idea seeing as some people had also thrown out letters and she wasn't really up for advanced math. No "y" equal "x" times "pr". She looked at the Professor in confusion hoping he would give an answer to his own question.
