Professor R. French put the last tidying touches on his classroom, finishing off by writing a GR33TING to his class on the ancient chalk board. The room is ordinary in the sense that there are desks in rows and cobwebs in the corners. What might strike the N0RMAL Arithmancy student as peculiar is the cans of paint, cauldron of brewing potion, and long sheets of parchment waiting for the students in the front of the classroom.
The new Arithmancy PR0F3SS0R is awaiting his students with his fingers knitted together and resting on the bulge of his belly.
OOC: I don't care if you're "late". Keep posting arrivals for now. Keep posting numbers. Class hasn't STARTED started, we're only warming up . OOC: No more shouting numbers, K? We're ADDING the random #'s now. Add the #s. HAVE FUN WIH THAT LOL. But you may still arrive if you want. OPEN DOOR CLASS.
OOC: This is where class has started. So.... be here. Or not. 0r n0t. Iz c00l. 100101! Post what your charries know about BEARDS. K.
OOC: YES OKAY, have your student come to the front, ladle Beard Growing Potion into a cup, DRINK, and sit back down -- a BEARD *WILL* grow onto EVERYONE'S FACES that consumes the potion. You can decide it's make and model . Amount of potion consumed is proportional to BEARD. So...little potion? Pencil mustache? TOO MUCH? Flood dragging beard? With me? yes okay thanks.
OOC: So... dip the beard in paint, dribble the beard on the parchment, COUNT YOUR DRIBBLES. I encourage you to go to PAINT and make your drawing. It isn't necessary, but hehe anyone can draw dribbles, right? hehe DIP, DRIBBLE, COUNT. Go 2 it, yes okay good thanks.
OOC: On the homestretch now! Once you've COUNTED your beard drippings, condense your number down (if necessary) [12 becomes 1+2 = 3. 3 is your number!], then get your READING from the CHART. Do what the chart tells you to do. Take this LESSON with you for LIFE. Yes okay well done very good okay.
UPDATE: OOC: I'm gonna leave this open through Monday. RP ALL YOU WANT OKAY? Just don't set things on fire? Or if you do... I dunno. NO POST ON SUNDAY from me, and I'm not expecting to post until MONDAY EST. Play. Have fun. Practice with your number. Paint the walls with your beards.
Now Józsua was all for GRRRRL POWER, but what did the girls who were walking out not get about needing a beard to do this particular BRANCH of Arithmancy? As peculiar and humiliating as it was.. The Professor was mad, surrre, but Józsua was pretty sure he wasn't saying men in general were better Arithmancers. Point not got. He almost felt sorry for the beardo professor.
He watched them go, dark look set his face which just looked amusing under the hobo beard.
If you're going to make a stand, at least do it for the right reasons, yea?
Anyway...
Onto his beard painting.
Euh..
He leaned down quite low having only a shortish beard and dipped it into the violet paint, pulling a face as he did so. Straightening up, he hovered over his parchment and waited for drippage to occur..
Photos!: Józsua's parchment
Did he have to count all the spots?
He counted FOURTY-ONE, not including the tiny speckles of paint.

So it was time to paint their beards? Well great. Having a beard was already bad enough. Kat didn't want to paint hers. Did this French dude know that paint actually smelled weird? And what did the dribbles have to have anything about how good they were in Arithmancy? Obviously it wasn't going to prove anything because Kat didn't need a painted beard and its dribbles to get a passing grade in Arithmancy tests. She had survived terms of passing Arithmancy and she didn't even have a beard that time. Kat was already contemplating on getting this beard removed. Hopefully Lafay had a batch of Hair Begone potion or something that would let all of this bushiness leave her chin. It was itchy. Ugh.
Kat reluctantly took a can of green paint and opened it. See? It smelled awful. The Head Girl gulped with her hand gripped her robes. She was going to cry, I swear. Ariana Logan had left the room so she didn't have a dorm buddy in here. Kat would call for her later on when she felt like it. But for now, she'd have to face this burden. She dipped the end of her beard inside the can and then dribbled in on the parchment.
SPOILER!!: Dribbles
See? It looked gross. And how was she supposed to count how many dribbles there were if the parchment looked like that? Tell her, French.

Olly just stared at the professor open-mouthed, for once completely speechless for a whole minute. Had he just...no, he couldn't have. Though the tingling on her chin and around her mouth suggested otherwise. And then there were people LEAVING the classroom. And shouting things about equality and how women were just as good at Arithmancy as men were. While Olly did of course agree, she wasn't too sure if this actually applied to what the professor had in mind for them in this lesson. Since it did seem that they would actually require B3ARDS for this.
Not that she actually believed that this was an ACTUAL branch of Arithmancy.
Nonetheless, she really wanted to leave. If it weren't for the fact that Schuyler addressed her right then, Olly probably would have too. Not because of the man/woman issue but rather because this lesson was just completely useless and the there was definitely something wrong with the professor's brain. Anyway, Schuyler. She turned to glare at her friend but couldn't because the Gryffindor just looked too hilarious with that braided beard of hers. "Oh, shut up, Grandpa." Olly replied with an amused smirk, reaching over to tug on Schuyler's beard softly.
Looking down at the blue paint in front of her, Olly sighed in resignation and dipped her beard into it. What kind of a stupid lesson was that? Would they have to do that for their OWLs too? If so, Olly would declare the whole magical world to have gone mad.
Photos!: The Parchment
But back to her beard. Which was ITCHING like hell by the way. How did men get through days without shaving? Olly shook her head slightly as she moved it back over the piece of parchment to allow the paint to dribble down on it. One...two...three... Oh, Merlin, those were A LOT of droplets! She ended up counting 38, ignoring the smaller ones and the ones that were connected by fine lines or the like. "Can we get rid of it now?" Olly said, leaning towards Schuyler with a hopeful look on her face. Yes please?
Laura just sat there, she was really annoyed with this Professor, he has just said that men were better than women right, well that was wrong, and he had better watch his back because she was going to get him back for that, maybe with a sign outside his office or maybe with something, she hadn't decided on what yet but for now she put on a fake smile.
Laura looked at the Professor and sat there, she was a bit confused about what she was supposed to do. "Professor I'm sorry but I don't understand what you want us to do." Laura sighed, she seriously was a bit worried about this.

She listened to the protesters and she couldn't believe that she wasn't with them. If this would have happened to her any other year then she would been right there with them screaming about how she would not grow a beard. She wasn't even as offended as they were about the fact that the professor thought men were better because of the whole beard thing. If anything she was offended about having to grow the beard at all. She had gotten this far so she might as well just finish so she could be done with the beard thing... forever.
Yes, that was a good though. She waited patiently for him to hand her the paint. She hoped she wouldn't get yellow, but that was only because in her mind yellow stood for puffs and that was just wrong and disturbing. Hannah watched as the professor handed her violet paint and her clean parchment. She looked around just to make sure that the others were doing it, to make sure that this was real life and not some sick joke.
She took a deep breath in and dipped her beard into the paint. She quickly transferred her wet beard to the clean parchment and let it do its thing. Once it was done, she looked down to see two almost perfect circles of drips. Hmmm... maybe her beard was more her then she thought. Hannah was a very clean cut person who desired and lived for perfection. Wait... what did she just think. Ok now what? He had said something about interpreting right? How did one interpret drips exactly? All she knew was that there were two of them and and half of that would be one, and this class was mental. Was that enough?

SPOILER!!: ALL 0F THE ANGRY W0MEN. Have a b3ard, yes okay thanks you're welcom3
Professor French idly rubbed his own beard, seemingly confused about what exactly these girls were on about.
"You R3QU1R3 a beard to do THIS BRANCH of Arithmancy. That makes men better at Arithmancy. You need a beard, yes okay thanks. You need a beard."
He waved his wand at each girl in rapid succession. Minerva - B00M bearded. Claudette, Anya of HOUSE JEREMY Gryffindor, then Olly and Sky. "Your beards are of my making, not... of your... own. SO your results will not be good. You are not good Arithmancers. But please, practice yes okay, with today's activity anyway."

SPOILER!!: QU3ST10NS
....
"That is not n0rmal. But color should not affect your beard drippings."
"No, you need a beard for today's lesson, yes okay. Please keep your beard thank you okay."
...
"That is for the end of l3ss0n. We are here now, in this part of the lesson. Please stay with me, take your potion yes okay thanks. We are almost ready to move on, so please now yes okay thanks."
"Cure? Beards are not a disease, thank you."
".... that is Charms, yes okay? Color does not matter for Arithmancy, yes okay thanks."
...
"Your beard is 0dd, yes okay, but the color should not affect your reading TWODAY."
......???????
"I have said to you already, please okay, l3ss talking, more learning. You are a terrible student. D0 better, yes okay. Do you need to yes okay move next to that girl? (LEMON) Arithmancy is not for everyone okay."
--------
"YES YES GOOD WELL DONE! Your beards are looking ready. We can now begin. Please stay seated, I will come to you yes okay good job."
Professor French then began up and down the rows of desks, distributing a SMALL CAN OF PAINT and a SHEET OF PARCHMENT to each 1ND1V1DUAL student. Some got RED, others ORANGE, YELLOW, BLUE, INDIGO, or VIOLET. The color didn't matter.
"You will DIP your beard 1nt0 the PAINT. Then dribble your beard ONTO the PARCHMENT. Some of your b3ards will make ONE big BLOB. ONE. NUMB3R one, yes okay? Well done. SOME of you will get MANY drips. TWO, THREE, SEVEN, FORTY-NINE yes thanks that is good, TOO. You will need to DRIBBLE. Then COUNT."
"Yes okay, that is, DRIBBLE, then COUNT. Dribble, then COUNT, yes okay thanks well done. This is easy, yes okay, but as I said, this ancient Arithmancical art requires a B3ARD. Use your b3ard. Dip it in paint. Dribble, yes okay."
"After you dribble and count, begin to INT3RPR3T yes good okay."
-----
OOC: So... dip the beard in paint, dribble the beard on the parchment, COUNT YOUR DRIBBLES. I encourage you to go to PAINT and make your drawing. It isn't necessary, but hehe anyone can draw dribbles, right? hehe DIP, DRIBBLE, COUNT. Go 2 it, yes okay good thanks.
Sarah was really proud of the girls who was standing up for women's rights. Sarah was very into it, although she KNEW that women were better than men and she often said that 'women that seek to be equal to men lack ambition'. Men don't like hearing about their inferioty as they have pride. Besides getting a beard for dress up was awesome.
What? She was not allowed to talk at all? Her jaw might rust . "If I am a terrible student, then what does that make you? A terrible terrible to the power of infinity teacher?" Sit next to Alice.. "Oh I would love to sit next to Captain" As usual Sarah did not use the name Biter.
One more thing... "if Arithmancy is not for everyone, why are teaching here? Shouldn't there be more job requirements other than being a wizard?"
As she began to move her things over to the place near Alice (she loved that name), she noticed that girls started leaving. "NAH, I am staying.. its like free entertainment here" she said.
"Hi Neighbour! I guess this is the VIP section ofthe classroom" she said to Alice as she smirked. She dipped her beard in indigo paint and began to dribble it over the page. SPLASH. DRIBBLE, DRIBBLE... It was facinating watching each spot make its mark on the parchment.
By the time her beard stopped dripping she had eight drops. One for each of her parent's children, and just like each dot amde its mark on the parchment, so too, every Edwards child would make their mark on the world.
With a huge beam on her santa-like bearded face Abbi watched as Professor French came closer to her with his paints. She got a violet one! Which was close to pink, a color she rather liked. Therfore MORE beams! Painting was gonna be fun, okay? Anything with paint and mushy colors was awesome. Yep.
After listening to the intructions the little fairy got to work.
DIIIIIPDY DOOOOO.
Grabbing her strawberry blonde beard with her little fingers, Abbi dipped her beard in the violet paint. She then lifted her put her hands away, lifted her head up and hovered it closer to the parchment where now her beard has splattered paint all over.
A head lift up and she began counting. One two three....ten..nine...fifteen...
She had. "TWENTY FIVE." She spoke a little loudly cause excitement, you know? THIS WAS COOL.

So... dribbling. Paint. Like finger painting but just... with beards, which made things a lot hairier and weirder. And it was probably a good thing his beard wasn't in the form of a stubble. This activity wouldn't have worked then, would it? Having been passed the Orange paint, Alec dipped the end of his beard into the paint before letting it dribble over his piece of parchment.
Drip... drip... dribble... drip...
... BLINK.
There were people... leaving? His grey-blue eyes widened as he watched the girls mention a couple of things to the Professor before heading out of the door. ... WHOA. Revolution? Riot? SOMETHING? He blinked, trying to make sense of it all. They had shouted something about equality, yeah? And women being just as good as men when it came to Arithmancy, which... was kind of obvious because Hadley. Still. Were they meant to follow or--
BLINK.
Oh hey, he was meant to have been counting the drips, right? Alec looked down at his piece of parchment and blinked some more. Okay... counting. Dots. One... two... three... you could see where he had took a moment to stare at the people who had walked out the door... maybe. ... six... seven... Did they get to keep the beards? ... ten... eleven... eleven!

People were leaving!? Could she do that, tooooo? This class wasn't even that fun because maths, but then again .. she had a beard right now. A really fluffy beard. She needed to stay to get rid of it for starters and .. and .. her friends were still here, so she wouldn't have anything to do if she left anyway. Staying was her only option it seemed.
... Painting?
Painting with beards?
FINALLY SOMETHING COOL. Bristol took some of the blue paint that was being handed around and dipped her beard in it. Weird, but cool. Carefully, she tried to make sure not to drip on anything besides the sheet. One drop .. two drops .. three drops ... a lot more drops. This was tiring. Could she nap while she dripped? .. Oh, wait, the dripping had stopped now. The first year counted up the number of drips and shouted it out to the class. "TWENTY SEVEN!" There. Done.

Thiswasnotgood. The Gryffindor could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. She was going to be a bearded freak. Nobody had a camera right? Right? She hid her face behind a book and looked blankly at the can of paint.
Sniffle.
Quote:
With a grimace, hidden by the book, she dropped the atrocity hanging from her face into the blue paint. Grosss. And then unceremoniously dropped it onto the parchment.
She looked down at the parchment. And cringed. Now she had paint on herself. What if not only she was a circus freak, what if she was one with ruined clothes?!
Six blobs. ... yeah. She did her best not to cry any more. She did not want to be good at aritmancy. No sir.
She did raise her hand slowly though. She had a question. Peeking just her eyes above her book she squeaked, "ShouldIcountmytearstoo?"
Because then she had 10 life ruining blobs on her parchment.

But before she could say anything else or do anything about it, she turned her head just in time to see French's wand pointed at her.. and BAM. A beard instantly sprouted on the 16 year old's face causing her to SHRIEK in horror. A beard! A beard was on her face and she was sure she looked HIDEOUS!
Frozen with repugnance, the girl's face (or what could be seen of it since she had bent her head so low so that no one could look at her) reflected her disgust as she simply stared at the pot of paint on her desk. Though the itchy, bristly hairs felt like bugs crawling over her skin, she dared not touch it, because she was sure it was simply horrible.. and did not want further confirmation.
And her results would not be good anyway? So why couldn't she just use a fake beard then, like what she had suggested earlier.. Ugh. It was bad enough she had to have this atrocity on her face, but now she had to dip it into paint? She felt like she was going to throw up. Claudette grimaced at the paint for a minute longer, looking up as she heard an indignant voice. Well.. she for one agreed with Ariana.. though she sort of wished she had the opportunity before she had the beard charmed onto her face.
Standing up, she added, "She's right.. Men are no better than us just because of their ability to grow facial hair." Such a ridiculous notion. "And we shouldn't be forced into growing a beard.. at least give us an alternative option.. or the choice to opt out of the activity.." And now the girl's cheeks burned bright pink, feeling completely humiliated. She grabbed her books and shielded them in front of her face as she hurried out after Ariana, whispering to her as she caught up to her, "These beards will come off, right?"

This was just unbelievable. She went to open her mouth but Ariana got to him first.
Someone please call St. Mungos and tell them they have a patient that escaped and is pretending to be a professor, because this guy was more mental than herself. "There is no way a beard will make me any better or any worse in a subject about numbers, nor would anyTHING else that would make me a man. I am a perfectly fine in Arithmancy without a beard and I think my grades as well as my Owl has prove that." She gathered her things. She didn't need him to remove this stupid beard she had others that could do that AND she would be talking to her head of house if not the Headmistress about this man.
Glaring at him again she stormed out of the room. She was done with this class she didn't need it for her career and she would not be back with Mr. nutter Frenchie.. no way

Beards weren't a bad thing, she had no problem with them, especially when it was her boyfriend who was wearing one 'cause it did look pretty good on him, heh, but the idea that it somehow made people (or rather, men) better at Arithmancy was laughable. And really, if that WAS all it took to be better at this subject, then it was a waste of time and effort. Leaving sounded like a great idea, especially when she had still so far managed to avoid being forced into a beard.
"Yeah, I'm done with this," she said with a shake of her head, scooping up her bag from the floor. She stood up and simply walked out with the other girls.
Professor French scratched his own beard as several girls left. They clearly had n0 understanding of the Arithmancy branches. Very odd girls okay. They were a disturbance and would be dealt with later. For NOW, he would focus on his good students that were doing BEAUTIFUL arithmancy.

Lex shrugged, deciding she would only question something if she knew for a fact it was wrong. Like the Jeremy Gryffindor thing. She wouldn't stand for rubbish like that. As it stood, she knew very little about Arithmancy and didn't think she'd question it until she knew where it was going--OHAI GIRLS DECIDING TO LEAVE!
Leaving because it was 'unlady-like'? Pffft, good thing she wasn't a lady. She didn't see the big deal in having a beard, she just didn't see where this rubbish class was going anyway but skipping classes...yeah, no, she'd just stay here and watching Professor Crazy over there give out more weird instructions. They couldn't get any worse.
Alexa dipped her beard in the blue paint. Drip. Drip. Drip. Was it done now? It looked like it. "Looks like six drops so long as we're counting the big ones as one." Now then, where was this going?

She dipped her newly grown beard into the paint and let it drip on the parchment. However, due to the braid she had made, it made ONE big drop and a cluster of FOUR little drops around it.
That made FIVE all together. "I have five, Professor!" Ariel noted. "The number of change and flexibility!" Yes, hopefully that change was accounted to the removal of this beard sometime on the near future.

Yes please?
Or they could knot their beards together.
"It?"

Laura looked at the Professor and sat there, she was a bit confused about what she was supposed to do. "Professor I'm sorry but I don't understand what you want us to do." Laura sighed, she seriously was a bit worried about this.
"Yes okay. You need to dip your beard first. DIP your beard into the paint I provided yes okay thanks. Then dribble onto the parchment. That is DIP then DRIBBLE. Then yes okay you will count. It is very easy. Very easy okay."

Vesper was so caught up in her growing beard....that she'd missed a bit of the drama (or had she)...Either way, no outward signs of having noticed things were showing. The beard she'd grown was rather impressive, too...if the Ravenclaw could say so herself. It was LotR worthy! Gandalf would've been super proud...
...And girls were storming out of the classroom. She was just kinda dumbstruck at how....extreme they were taking everything. Sure, the professor was being kinda rude...but Ves planned to ignore it. She wanted to learn...and if that meant having to put up with some rudeness...Well, it wasn't anything she hadn't dealt with at Beauxbatons. Anyway, her marks had to improve if she wanted to stay. That had been the deal she'd made with her parents.
Suddenly the professor was coming around with parchment and paint...and Vesper was pleased she'd scored PURPLE. It was a favorite...and it was always best to do activities with ones favorite something.
Centering the parchment, she carefully popped the lid to the paint and dipped the fuzziness of her LotR!beard down into it. Making sure it had a good amount of paint on it, she moved it over the paper. The paint gravitated down like water droplets and Ves was fascinated by its movement. The purple paint was really pretty...
Dribble....dribble....dribble....
After a few moments of hovering the paint!soaked beard across the paper, she pulled back to examined her work.
SPOILER!!: Vesper's paint thing!
Was it....seven splotches? or eight? Did that one big one count as one?

Was it just Sophie, or did this professor love the words 'yes' and 'okay' as much as he seemed to love beards? Yes, okay (no pun intended), he did. Heh. Moving on, Sophie was glad to see they'd gotten to the point and time where she'd actually be told how to interpret her numbers. Although, she really did like that reading she'd ended up with that concluded she was Queen of the World.
Well, she could still be Queen of the World...
...she'd just have to reverse all her sentences now. MERLIN. "Now sentences my all reverse to got I've," she said, looking to the person next to her. Her sentence came out reeeeeeeeally slow, since she had to think about how to reverse it as she said it. "You about what?"

Just when she thought she had endured the worst of it. She only had two blobs on her parchment which meant that she would have to speak in rhymes. Really? What on earth did this have to do with Arithmancy? Maybe she shouldn't complain too much because for the first time ever, she had not been lost in a lesson.
She however was not a rhymer so this was going to be difficult, plus what was she supposed to be rhyming about anyways and to whom? Was she the only one that was a bit confused at this request. She wasn't sure if anybody else had gotten two blobs so she didn't think she would get the chance to watch what somebody else did.
Err.. she decided to give it a shot anyways. "Errr...What am I supposed to do because talking in rhymes can't be true." She felt foolish. Was this even what that crazy man meant? She raised her hand. Is this what you mean...er... jellybean?" Lame, lame, lame!
The response to his question from the professor didn't make it any easier to decided what he was supposed to do, but he hoped that he was at least moving in the right direction. "OK, this is one big blob, then there are two single drips over there. Hmm, I think this part is two blobs as well." He scribbled the numbers down next to the dribbles.
"If I add them all up, it equals 5." Asher looked at the chart to see what five meant. "WHAT?? I HAVE TO SHOUT EVERYTHING. EVERY SINGLE THING I SAY?" It seemed quite rude to him to be shouting. "WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH...WELL...ANYTHING? I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I AM SHOUTING."
His throat was already starting to get scratchy from the shouting and we was in need of a tall, cold glass of pumpkin juice. Or, maybe some butterbeer. That would be even better. Yes, butterbeer and cauldron cakes. His stomach started to grumble with hunger.

Okay now see? This was actually starting to sound like Arithmancy. It also sort of reminded her of something they would do in Divination but yeah, she understood the beard thing now. Sort of, anyway.
The blonde decided it'd be best to condense her number down to a single digit first and so she pulled her parchment towards her, scribbling down the number of paint droplets she'd counted. 13 in all, yeah? Yeah. That meant that 3+1=4 and 4 was her single digit.
Glancing at the board, Ella frowned slightly at what she was meant to do. If the beard reading was indicative of something she was supposed to say soon and the number told her how to say it, did that mean she'd be talking to someone who didn't understand her language? Or someone who was hard of hearing? Or just someone who didn't understand her? HM. "That's sort of weird."
... ... ...
"That's sort of weird." She was meant to say everything twice, yeah?
Ascanius was a man, which was painfully obviously by the beard on his face. And men, in his humble and correct opinion, did not cry. Not even a little. Not ever. But it didn't mean that he wasn't all upset about the fact that he had to dip his beard, which was still fresh and new to his face into some revolting paint.
He wanted to sit back and not do a single thing, but that would have rude or whatever. Pfft. And the last thing he wanted to have to sit through was everyone being all annoyed that he got Slytherin points docked. Ascanius would never hear the end of it. His housemates were uptight like that.
So, he eyed the Professor with a bored, you're-a-terrible-Professor expression and grabbed the paint. It was ironically green and he supposed it didn't rally matter...the colours...he was going to be annoyed no matter what.
Then, with a sigh, he silently apologised to his beard and dipped it in the paint. Once it was all dipped, he leaned it over the paper. That felt all seven types of wrong and he was ashamed that his beard had been asked to stoop so low. But anyway, it eventually stopped.
Looking back at his paper and ignoring the feeling of paint crusting on his beard, he counted the drops... 17. That wasn't so bad. Just humiliating and horrific.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Counting the little ones too...oh yeah, she should have thought of that. Duh. Lex took another look at the door. They were legit gone? Done with the class before they even got their readings? That seemed a bit wasteful. Why show up if you weren't going to finish the lesson? She shrugged at her own question before looking to her parchment again. This time she counted 9.
Her eyes darted to the board and the scowl grew almost immediately. Singing everything. She would have preferred talking backwards or shouting. Could she shout instead? Lottie wasn't here so it wouldn't have been a problem.
Here we go.
"I'm stiiill not VER-y fond of Ariiiithmancyyyyy but the beards are CoOl. I GOT a lameeee one and don't agrEEEeeEe with the REAadIng." This was harder than it looked, yup. "PrOOfessSSoor? Could I swiiiiitch to RHYMinnnggG woords oR baaackward taaaalk?"

FIVE.
THAT MEAN THAT ARIEL HAD TO SCREAM *EVERYTHING*. HOW ODD... ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THAT SHE WAS NOT USUALLY ONE TO TALK LOUDLY.
But hey, whatever the teacher man said. Though honestly, he really didn't seem qualified to be a teacher and none of this had anything to do with Arithmancy.
"PROFESSOR, AM I SPEAKING LOUDLY ENOUGH?" Ariel wasn't exactly sure why she was screaming or what she was supposed to be screaming in this loud voice, but she was doing it.
After one last look at the girls who were leaving, Eliza finally turned around and read the new chart that the professor had written. Her number was seventeen, which she knew meant her reduced number would be eight. Her eyes skimmed the list until she came to eight. Say your sentences in reverse? Oh Merlin... She muttered a few things where she sat, unsure if she was supposed to actually get up or not...
".strange so is class this" she began quietly. She heard the older Hufflpuff, Ella Bishop, speaking backwards too, so she said something to her. "?huh, weird pretty is This" she commented as she arched an eyebrow. "!day all this do to have don't I glad I'm" she added with a chuckle to the blonde.
As he walked back to his seat, admiring the nice stubble that was now present on his face, he passed Lucian, who had a very impressive Merlin-esque beard growing down his chest. "Nice, Lucian!" he said, high fiving his dorm mate as he returned to his seat.
HIGH FIVE.
Lucian beamed at Caleb, though his beard might covered it. Hair was EVERYONE on the bottom half of his face. It was itchy, but COOL. When was he going to get another chance at having such an impressive beard? Never! He looked around. Someone should so pop out a camera and snap a picture of him so he could send it to his parents and be all: Yo, how you doin'? And bob his head along with his beard.

Lucian's arms went up in the air in celebratory as the professor set a small can of Indigo color paint on his desk. Thank Merlin it wasn't pink or anything girly like that.
He placed the can on top of his parchment and then dipped his beard in slowly, then all at once. Why wait? He didn't have all the time in the world. Smirking to himself, he raised his head then hovered his beard over the parchment.

Lucian had absolutely no problem getting down and dirty with paint. This was his SPECIALTY. It was as if he was back home in his mother's painting room painting anything and everything his heart desired. He was right at home. Here. With paint.
Such a happy Lucian.
He counted the splotches then looked up at the chart. Hmm... there so many. Woot! Twenty-three all in total. So... two plus three equals five.
Five. That meant...
HE GOT TO SHOUT.
Just then and idea struck him. It was such a great assumption he HAD to tell Professor French. He raised his hand and waved it in the air. "PROFESSOR. I THINK I GET IT." He wasn't shouting to be rude. He had to. The chart said so. "THIS IS A FORM OF ARITHMANCY, ISN'T IT? THAT'S WHY WE NEED BEARDS, RIGHT?" Yes, yes. It HAD to be that. And the professor did...sort of keep repeating that, but many of the girls were misunderstanding the assignment. Frenchy wasn't being sexist.
Rhyming. Lovely. Tora double checked her calculations just in case. There were quite clearly 2 huge blotches on her paper... Which meant she would have to speak in rhyme. Billywig rot.
She hated rhymes. They reminded her of the riddles that she couldn't figure out (specifically the ones at the entrance into the common room). Ugh. How long was thig going to be for? She really disliked where this class was heading. She glowered at the splotches. Both of them.
"Professor, for how much time
Must I talk in rhyme?" she versed after raising her hand.
"YES YES GOOD WELL DONE! Your beards are looking ready. We can now begin. Please stay seated, I will come to you yes okay good job."

So now they had to dip their beards into paint? Hmmm....this lesson was getting interesting by the second. He was starting to like this. He got blue paint. Hm not a bad choice professor. Blue was his favorite color.
Alright so he had to dip his beard into it and count the drops. Shouldn't be TOO hard. He dipped his beard into it and made sure it was full of paint. Then he went over to his parchment and counted the drops he squeezed.
"One...two...wait....three,four...five,six...eight, nine,ten, eleven....twelve...thirteen and fourteen!"
Yup that was all he could get from his beard. Then he heard the professor move on. He perked his head up and waited to hear the instructions.
SPOILER!!: Le Prof yet again ;D

So Kace understood the concept. He got 14. So he divided it up. 1+4=5. So he got 5. He looked up at the chart and see what he had to do. Oh my...he had to shout out his words for everyone to hear? That shall be interesting. But he could do it. He could. He cleared his throat.....

Right. Okay. Now this bringing the number down to a single digit thing was beginning to sound a bit more like the Hadley kind of Arithmancy he was so used to. Maybe the guy was just trying to get them to learn things in a... weird kind of way? But he was sure there was nothing in the textbook about beards. Nope.
... Moving on...
He had eleven and he didn't really need to make a note of any sort of calculation to know that his meant that his single digit number would end up being two. Two... two... His eyes flew up to the board and... he blinked. Rhyme? Everything? He reached up a hand and ruffled his hair before looking over at the other activities listed. Yeah... it was certainly better than having to sing. Or talk backwards.
But... rhyme. Rhyme rhyme rhyme. And it turned out that he wasn't the only one who had to do so, either. "I agree with the girl who's not a Hufflepuff" he started, his hand raised in the air, "Talking in rhyme can be..." Pause. Can be? CAN BE?! He wasn't a poet or a songwriter and... this was hard. ... HARD. "... can be tough."

Adi grinned in Kace's direction, giving him two thumbs up to show his approval of the blue beard.
So what was Doctor Wackadoodle saying now? Add and then condense and then interpret? Sure! No problem! "Okay, so I got eleven blobs. One plus one equals two!'' Adi glanced up at the chart. "Speak in rhymes for best results,'' he read. Say Whaaaaaaaaa? He looked at Alec and mouthed, "This is crazy!''

Sophie giggled a little at all the yelling, rhyming, double talk, backwards talking, etc., etc. The kid next to her hadn't replied to what she'd said earlier, but Sophie just shrugged it off. She probably couldn't be understood anyway. After all, she'd talked really, really slowly and backwards.
"Eight an have I," she said aloud, because everyone else was discussing their results, so why not her? "...backwards sentences say to how about think to hard really it's and." Because it was, and again, she had to speak really, really slowly.
