Now to crack some dozy eggs and mix in some sulfur, YES Oichi grabbed a dozy egg and cracked it into her cauldron of milk. She then stirred once counter clockwise. She repeated the process with all the eggs specified. She put on her gloves then grabbed the sulfur provided and crushed it into the mixture. I seem to be done for now, now to wait for the next step of awesome instructions.

A... doxy egg. Crack each, at least. Sighs. Kat took one of them and examined it for a while. It looked... okay. Maybe not exactly like a regular chicken egg but it was okay. One by one, Kat cracked an egg and dropped it in the cauldron. After each egg dropped, she stirred the potion once counter clockwise. Then repeat process. Won't be too long though, until all the five eggs were in the cauldron.

This time, Kat wore her gloves. They were now going to pulverise the Sulfur gems. Brilliant. Kat took them into her covered palm and closed her hand, crumpling them into the milk.

That was disgusting. Ew.

Daichi stood up from the bench he was seated on because standing straight made him move better to grab the ingredients and such. Speaking about ingredients, Daichi checked his list and then the supplies he need and found that he had them all.

He grabbed his wand and after a quick Scourgify he took the milk and poured it halfway in. The incendio spell was a little more difficult for the Prefect with the fear and all. So with a firm voice he shouted the incantation and sighed in relief when he saw the low fire under the cauldron.


Not paying the fire any attention, the Slytherin listened carefully to the next instructions. He then searched for his doxy eggs on the table and when he found them he used his hands to grab them one by one and placed them in front of him and the cauldron. He cracked one open, dropped it in the milk cauldron and stirred clockwise.

He continued this procedure until every cracked doxy egg was in the cauldron and stirred each time. Looking towards the Professor at the front of the class putting on her gloves, Daichi followed the instruction and with his gloved hands he crumbled the gems of sulfur and added it to the cauldron.

Noxious Potion
- Emits a green smoke that corrupts the mind into thinking it's poisonous and noxious.

- Useful as a distraction, by tossing the vial on the ground to release the gas
- It can injure the victim indirectly by making them pass out and fall, hurting themselves.

Ingredients:

• Cow Milk - to fill cauldron half way.
• 5 Doxy eggs
• 10 grams of Sulfur
• 2 ounces of armadillo bile
• 4 cups of flobberworm mucus
• 1 cup of whale oil
• 2 cups of Mountain Troll Dung - try to get some with chunks. Ew.
• 1 Lemon's juice
• Handful of Poppy seeds

Procedure:
1. Fill cauldron half way with the milk
2. Set burner on low
3. Crack one doxy egg at a time and drop into cauldron (No shell?)
4. Stir counter clockwise after each egg.
5. Do that for all five eggs
6. Put on gloves
7. Crumple the 10 grams of sulfur into the cauldron

Yup, it was smelly all right. She moved on to the next step after she copied down what Professor Lafay had to say. Picking up one of the doxy eggs, she twisted and turned it in her hand to inspect the shell. It didn't appear to have any cracks in it yet, so that was probably a good sign, right? But that caused her to pause. Wait...after we crack them, do we put the shells in too? That would give the potion even more doxy egg material to work with right? It made sense to her, but she knew when you were cooking you never - ever- put the shells in. She didn't want to be wrong and ruin the whole thing so early on in the procedure, so she looked around the room to see if anyone else had put the shells into their potions. The cauldron next to her was close enough to look into, so she tried to be inconspicuous about it while she leaned over to get a glimpse. Hopefully the student next to her wouldn't mind....

It didn't look like there were any shells in their cauldron, so she cracked an egg on her own cauldron and let the slimy insides slip out and plop into the cauldron. She then picked up her stirrer, gave it a quick clean, and stirred her potion COUNTER clockwise. She knew the direction was SUPER important. She'd learned that last year. Well...nothing bad happened, so I guess sans shells was right? She went on to do the same thing with the four remaining eggs.

She cleaned her gloves that were setting on the table with another cast of Scourgify!" and then put them on. They were a bit thicker than she'd like, but she supposed that was to keep them safe from intense ingredients or something. She grabbed a pinch of sulfur to test what crumbling it up would be like. It was odd, to be sure. It was good that it was already sort of a compressed powder form, because that made it crumple up more easily. She grabbed the rest of the sulfur and broke it down in her gloves, then dumped it into the cauldron and brushed the rest off as well. The yellow flakes slowly drifted down into the odd milky and now egg-slimed potion.

Once she got all that done she thought about the egg that hadn't made it into the cauldron. Technically it wasn't her fault. See, the egg shouldn't have gone and gotten itself cracked like that because now she had a mess to clean. Of course she might have chosen to leave it there til the end of class but then she remembered the Professor always talking about messes not being good in potions and the image of the furious professor making her clean the entire dungeon level was enough for her to grab her wand. She'd fix it now and avoid having to spend any unnecessary time with her.

Lex looked first to the side of the cauldron where the egg has been smushed. A quick scourgify fixed that right up so now all that was left was the table which got a spell too and the...floor.

She frowned after looking down and realizing that she had stepped in the mess. Ew. Now it was on her shoe too. With a scowl she raised that foot so as not to track the egg stuff anywhere else then shot the spell at the floor. Now then, about her shoe. She pulled it off and have it a quick inspection. It wasn't all that bad..."Scourgify."

THERE! All better! BEAM.

He nodded with blue eyes watching the professor carefully, like he was really absorbing more than just the information about the potion. Lots of lessons in Lafay's classes. He got up and gathered the ingredients, checking them off his mental list. West did pause for a second hearing the 'get some with chunks' instruction. Well. Okay. he wasn't afraid of Troll chunks. He grabbed one that looked like it was chunky. Lots of roughage.

He turned the burner on carefully and then got to scrubbing and scourgifying the cauldron, thankful that older kids had shown him how to use the spells what were needed for it, since Bellaire never had been any help.

He filled the cauldron halfway with the milk and in the meantime, arranged the rest of his ingredients in easy reach in the order they would be needed.

The five eggs were next. West picked one up at a time, and holding his stirrer in the other, happily cracked them one handed, like how his dad had showed him, that little twist that kept the shells from getting in there. One counter clockwise stir after each egg.

Next? He listened, one ear on the professor as he worked. Gloves. He tugged his gloves on and picked up the sulfur, deciding to double check the measurements. Once he was sure it was right West enjoyed crumbling them in, imitating the professor's movements. It was WAY more fun when you did stuff with your hands.

Laura listened to the Professor instructions and followed them, she cracked the first doxy egg and put it in the cauldron and stirred counter clockwise, then she cracked the other, put it in the cauldron and stirred it counter clockwise, she continued this until she had done it with all her doxy eggs.

Laura then put on her gloves and took the gems of Sulfur, she then crumpled them into the milk with her hands, she was really glad that she was actually doing something right in potions.

Honestly, Theo really hated this kind of stuff. Hands on stuff that involved touching things that ought not be touched. Herbology was a similar lesson that he hated cos of that reason. But he cracked the doxy eggs carefully, since he sucked at cracking eggs. Theo would ALWAYS get shells into the mix usually, but he thought he was okay this time.

After five, the boy put on his gloves with a sigh. This was where things got real, right?

He got the gems of Sulfur in his hands and crumbled them into the milk. It was pretty easy actually, and not too gross. Done with that part already? Theodore smiled, but that faded when the jar of dung caught his eye again.

So now it was time for the next step.

Penelope grabbed an egg, cracked it, and let it drop into the cauldron. Then, after pausing for a couple brief seconds trying to remember which way was counter clockwise, she did that, guiding her stirrer around the cauldron once. Well, this wasn't so bad. With each egg and stir, she went a tiny bit faster each time until very soon all five eggs were in and the cauldron had been stirred five times.

So that part was done, and she scribbled it down in her notes.

Now it was time to put on her gloves, which she did, then grabbed the sulfur and started crumpling it up in her hands over the cauldron, wrinkling her nose just a little bit as she did. But soon that was done too, and all the sulfur was in. She took off one glove to pick up her quill - didn't want to get any small remaining particles of sulfur on it, did she? - and wrote down that step as well.

Ethan lifted his eyes to the board as the list of ingredients appeared and he began copying them down in his journal. Once finished, the sixth year rose from his seat and walked over to the potions stores to collect his ingredients, making several trips to complete the list.

He looked up as the Professor began the instructions. So milk was the first ingredient.. Ethan started with Scourgifying his cauldron, then poured the milk until it was halfway full. He pointed his wand at the base and muttered, "Incendio." Now that the ilk was heating over the fire, the sixth year once again lifted his eyes to Lafay, awaiting the next step.

Doxy eggs next.. Ethan picked up one and cracked it against the side of his cauldron. He dropped it in then gave the potion a counter-clockwise stir. Then he repeated the step four more times for each of the eggs. Once finished with that step, the boy Scourgified his gloves then picked up the sulfur. He crumbled it all up in his gloved hands then dropped it all into his cauldron, brushing the dust off into it as well. As he waited for the next step, Ethan jotted down notes in his journal.

After Belle heated up her cauldron and cleaned it, she noticed the next set of directions on the board. Belle read it and noticed she had to drop one egg first then stir it. Belle nodded and got the doxy eggs.

She cracked it and dropped one in. SPLOOSH! Then she stirrred it counter clockwise. Then the next one...and a stir...and the third one and a stir and the rest.

Belle then realized she was doing the potion right. Belle got her gloves on. She needed to be safe. She took the gems out of the sulfur. She crumpled them into milk. It felt weird. But it looked pretty cool. She watched how she was demonstrating it and was doing it exactly what she was doing.

Alex's cauldron was...well, gross. Time to clean it out! "Scourgify!" he said as he waved his wand, smiling as the cauldron was cleaned and ready to go. Ok, what was the first thing he had to add?

He looked up at Lafay, who was already trucking right along and a few steps ahead of him, and sighed. Ok, time to play catch up. The first step was to add the milk--he filled up his cauldron half way and pointed his wand at the burner. "Incendio" he muttered as he set the fire to low heat.

Ok, now the eggs. He picked up his first doxy egg and cracked it on the side of the cauldron. He dumped it in, then stirred the cauldron counterclockwise. Viola!

From just a ways off she heard one of her ickle parents talking about scourgifying gloves and taking notes. Her eyes instinctively fell to her gloves. Did it...did it matter? She got on her toes and peered curiously into cauldron at the mixture she'd been brewing so far. It didn't look like it was going to explode any time soon...

Then again, she didn't know what exploding soon looked like. Explosions usually caught her off guard and those were usually FAR more epic because they were so unexpected. Think about it? How much fun would you have being blown up if you saw it coming? Logic right there. Something to think about.

Anyway he was also talking about notes...notes she had completely forgotten to take.

Well then. Quite casually she slipped across the room, parchment in hand and smile on face, to the Slytherin Captain. It wasn't until she got there that she realized he was standing next to Scary-Bat Girl--there were a lot of things she didn't notice, OKAY? She shifted so she was standing much closer to him than she was to her then gave him a wide BEAM. "Dylan! I heard you talking about glove cleaning...how important is that? And do we have to? And will my cauldron explode since I didn't? And...and...if I get blown up will Professor Lafay kill me?" Yeah...she might have had a few questions. "Oh! And can I see your notes???"

... The boy had a lot of questions.

"If you can remove the egg shell before it melts you should be fine. If the shell melts, you've ruined your potion." She said to the young man.

Hearing her name Hecate went over to the little Gryffindor. "Get back to your seat." She told the child, "and to answer your question, if you get blown up, yes, I will kill you."

"Next step." She said going back to the cauldron. "Measure out the armadillo bile, and begin stirring the potion vigorously clockwise, when it's in full spin, then drop in the 2 ounces of Armadillo bile. Sit and wait for it to stop spinning on it's own, then take the 4 cups of flobberworm mucus and spoon it in with a wooden spoon."

Moving on now. Jory measured out the two ounces of Armadillo bile. Then he started to stir the potion. Stir, stir, stir- all in a clockwise way until it was spinning all around at a fast rate. Taking the measured bile, he dropped it in.

The Puffer updated his notes while he waited for the Potion to cease spinning. When it did, he took the four cups of flobberworm mucus and ladled it all in with the clean wooden spoon.

Dylan was doing some light organizing, ingredients-wise. They always seemed to add things according to how they were listed, so he was preparing the armadillo bile...as he assumed that would be the next thing.

...And by prepare, the Captain was just getting it within reach.

Naturally, when he heard someone start talking to him rather quickly, he nearly dropped the ingredient, whirling around to see one of his favorite Gryffindors standing there, looking at him. "Alexa." Yea, he and Skylar had an ickle...and that ickle was Cambridge. Still though, he was relieved it was her. Anyone else would have gotten a severe stink-eye. "...No...I just cleaned mine because I had egg-goo on them and I didn't want something weird happening when I picked up the sulfur."...because he himself didn't know if something would happen. Better to be safe than sorry.

...And that answered one of Alexa's questions. Aww, for shame. Lafay was getting ill. Dylan was loathed to see that.

Giving his ickle a look, though...he lowered his voice and winked. "Let me finish my next step and I'll come check on you, okay?" Also, he'd duplicate his notes for her...because it was her...and he was in a giving mood. This happy-feeling...It was good stuff. The Slytherin quickly decided he rather liked it...

After ruffling her hair, Dylan turned back to Selina.

Now, back down to business.

Skylar was being awfully sassy...which in turn made him smirk and roll his eyes some. He wasn't too bothered, really. This was the nature of their friendship...and he enjoyed it. The barbs. "Now, were you watching her?"...Seriously, Dylan felt he needed to ask. "If you don't have measuring cups, you can always do the tablespoon method..."...He was just giving information for information's sake. "One ounce equals TWO tablespoons."...because some people preferred it to to measuring cups. Yea, his American was showing.

Anyway, for this, cups it would be...It just sounded like they'd need to immediately add the bile as a whole. So, no time for individual tablespoons...He grinned, pulling silver cups from his bag. After scourgifying them, he carefully scooped out two ounces of the gooey bile. Setting it to the side but within reach, Dylan nodded. "Now we just stir like Professor Lafay demonstrated. If it's moving fast enough, it should funnel in the middle. Clockwise. Remember that." Once again, not passing judgments here. He got them mixed up, too.

Lots of BOSS-stirring later, the potion was twirling and moving at a fast, steady pace. Picking up the pre-measured armadillo bile, Dylan dumped it in...stepping away from the potion after doing so. "Then we wait until it stops moving, like she said. We can take this time to measure out the mucus."

And...could he just say...the potion was starting to REALLY smell?! It was already a bad combination of things...Merlin. The Slytherin Captain was going to inquire about the bubble-head charm...after he threw up...Wait, NO! He couldn't throw up. Not yet. That was showing massive weakness. So...he needed to act like he wasn't bothered....Right.

Quickly preparing the flobberworm mucus, Dylan sat back, crossing his arms and holding his breath. Remembering the wooden spoon, he rolled his eyes and plucked the one from his case. Scourgifying it, he set it to the side...When the potion finally settled down, he moved forward, picking up the four ounces of mucus he'd gotten ready. "Remember...your wooden spoon." The words were gritted out. The Slytherin didn't want to chance smelling anything...His stomach was already turning uneasily. And seriously...if he spewed in front of everyone in this class, he'd be forever embarrassed.

So, yea. NO BREATHING...

Adding the four ounces of mucus with the spoon, Dylan tried just breathing with his mouth...and not through is nose. Dear Merlin.

Just...

UGH.

Pulling his notebook closer, he silently updated his progress. He hoped Skylar was listening and doing the same with hers.

She nearly pouted a bit when it looked like he looked like he was busy. If he was busy then he wouldn't have time to explain stuff to her and as he could probably tell by her questions, there was a lot she wasn't clear about. Plus he really seemed like he knew what he was talking about in this class--Dylan always knew what he was talking about so next to the Professor he was probably the only one she could ask.

She beamed a bit when he acknowledged so pleasantly. It meant he was happy to see her. Yup. He always was..or well...she liked to think he was always happy to see her...

"Ohhhh...so then...there's a good chance I won't go blowing up the place or anything like that--"



Lex whipped around, nearly knocking over a few ingredients when she heard the voice of the Potions Mistress. Her eyes widened in response to the question. She would...she would kill her...like for real? As in, not breathing, six feet under, stone cold, not moving, no more chocolate frog eating, dead????

Holy Kneazle!

She almost lost feeling in her legs but then she needed them to head back to her seat..



She was set to bolt back to her work area and hide behind the protection of her bubbling cauldron but she postponed this response long enough to see him wink at her.

Eeeeep! He would come check on her! GOOD! Now she was even less likely to suddenly do something wrong!! She felt all kinds of better now and beamed over at him. "Okie dokes! I'll be waiting!" Waiting wasn't really her thing but when it involved one of her ickle parents she didn't mind as much.

She giggled when he ruffled her hair then quickly made her way back. No need to upset the Professor who would kill her.



Once she was back at her own cauldron she got right back to work. This thing WOULD turn out good and she'd be super proud of herself in the end.

Quite carefully she measured out the armadillo bile. Was it enough? Too much? She looked at it for a couple seconds; staring at it really until she was able to convince herself that it was the right amount. Now then, onto the stirring. She gripped the stirring thingy with BOTH hands then began stirring as hard as she could. After a while her arms started hurting and that's when she stopped. This was what full spin looked like, right?

It better be because she didn't think she could stir anymore. Nope.

Next she added the armadillo bile and plopped down on her stool to wait for it to stop.

and waited...

and waited some more...

When it was finally done she hopped back up and grabbed the wooden spoon. Just as carefully as she had done the measurements earlier she spooned the 4 cups of flobberwom mucus into the mixture. Now what?

Now that her potion had its milk, eggs, and sulfur all in one place, she prepped her station for the next steps. The small glass vial that contained her armadillo bile was hiding behind some of her empty containers, so she moved them aside and picked up the vial to double check her measurement. Still looks like it's at the two ounce line to me, she thought and set it back down next to the cauldron.

Right, okay, so... One more look at the procedure here and, Stir vigorously - clockwise. She looked up towards Lafay with a quizzical look on her face. How vigorous is vigorous? she wondered. Vigorous as in splashing and sloshing and whirling like a whirlpool sinking great ships in the sea orrrr...no, probably not that. She smirked a little at the thought of it though. Just the regular sort of vigorous, I guess. She took her stirrer in hand and vigorously got the potion going in the clockwise direction.

She watched the potion go round and round until she was satisfied it was at its capacity for safe potion whirling. She quickly grabbed her vial of bile, nearly knocking it over in the process, recovered and then dumped it out in the cauldron. Now she just had to wait. And wait. And wait. Maybe that was a little too vigorous. This is taking for-eh-ver, she complained her hazel eyes traced the motion of the mixture. She got out her wooden spoon, cleaned it, and sat it back onto the table while she waited. After what seemed like eons, the potion came to a halt. All right then. Next!

She checked her list again. M'mmm flobberworm mucus, how delightful. She made a slightly disgusted face as she spooned the mucus out of the container and into the cauldron. Each dollop made a sickening plopping sound. "Yeck," she muttered quietly.

Alyssa sat up attentively when Professor Lafay began to speak again. She watched carefully as she demonstrated the next steps on how to make the potion and when she was done, Alyssa quickly jotted down the steps into her journal.



Now that she had all that written down, she put down her quill and started measuring out the armadillo bile. Before she dropped them into the cauldron, she picked up her wooden spoon and started stirring the potion clockwise vigorously, adding muscle and power to each stir she made.

STIR....STIR...STIR....STIR.....

and once she was sure that her potion was moving in full spin on its own, she dropped in 2 ounces of the Armadillo bile.

ONE DROP!...TWO DROP!!.....

Then she waited and watched for the potion to slow down its spin. When the potion stopped turning and spinning around and was back to bubbling normally, Alyssa picked up her 4 cups of Flobberworm mucus, and taking her wooden spoon, she began scooping it out and adding it into her potion. Once she had scraped out the last drop of mucus and added it to her potion, Alyssa put down the cup and her wooden spoon and watched her potion brew. As she waited for further instructions, she picked up her quill and updated her journal.

As Selina was copying Dylan's notes looking over some clerical parts of Dylan's notes, the redhead got sort of all involved in her writings. So much so that when she heard Dylan's voice she sort of zoned him out, luckily for her he had been talking to Cambridge. But there was something about Selina that just let her sort of turn off her listening ears. It was her most POWERFUL weapon. What?- was her favorite response to every topic of conversation. Mostly because people got really irritating really fast at this school and tuning them out was usually the best way to handle them. Not that the Head Girl EVER tuned anyone out ever... ahem.

Anyway, when she tuned back into the world she heard Dylan yammering off to someone. Looking over to him she saw he was talking to ickle Cambridge. As much as she really did GENUINELY like Cambridge- because the ickle was adorable- whenever Selina saw Cambridge it was like instaheadache because where Cambridge went trouble followed. It was wildly endearing on her, but she could not help but wonder what the younger Gryffindor was up to.

SO she turned up her listening ears and went back to scribbling on her notes so she could listen to their conversation. 'Sides, Dylan got all Daddy Dylan whenever he spoke to Cambridge, which never ceased to amuse Selina. Listening to a little of their conversation while she scribbled she figured out that Cambridge was indeed lost. Heh. Must be a Gryffindor thing with potions because it seemed that Selina was NOT the only one who was rubbish at it. Well come on, potions was hard and confusing and also temperamental. There was not much to like about the class. At least in her opinion.

And then Daddy Dylan showed up. He was all nice and promised to help Cambridge once he was done with this. The redhead wondered if he knew that she was onto him. He was a nice guy underneath all of that really nice hair that he wouldn't let her braid.

When Dylan returned to Selina, she shot him a knowing smirk about Cambridge and laughed a little, "Going to go and check on her, Daddy Dylan?" She made sure that she said it low enough so that only the two of them could hear, but at least she knew that HE would hear it. And yes, she was making fun of him a little. At the same time, though, she thought it was sweet he was all caring and stuff of Alexa the headache enduser.

Wait, watching who? Oh the Professor? She rose her eyebrow and said, "Um, what do you think?" She WAS after all in this bet to WIN it. Duh.

Pulling her hair back in a quick braid, because all of the ingredients were starting to get gross and she didn't want it in her hair, she watched Dylan move onto the next steps. Yeah, yeah... something else equaled something else. This wasn't Arithmancy, Dylan. She didn't need a number lesson.

Doing as he said, she filled up the cup with the correct amount of Armadillo bile, which was two ounces, and then put it to the side. It was time to spin stuff around. Taking the stirrer from earlier, she began to spin it around counterclockwise as fast as she could. Once that was going full speed, she dropped the bile in there and watched it spin around until it finally got lost in the potion. Then she sat and waited for it to stop spinning around and around, it was sort of fun to watch actually, before she moved onto the next step.

Then she measured out the flobberworm mucus and started to load it into the potion with the wooden spoon. Yeah? Was that right? Well, that was how Dylan did it so she was going to do that.

When she did finally look over at Dylan she noticed that he looked kind of funny. Raising her eyebrow, she was about to ask why until she suddenly got a whiff. Yeah... that was why... ew.

Taking her notebook of perfection, she started to scribble down.

Nerida looked up from her potion when Professor Lafay began to speak again. She watched very carefully as the Professor demonstrated the next steps on how to make the potion and when she was done, Nerida quickly added the new steps into her journal.

Once she had finished writing the new steps down, she started measuring out the armadillo bile. Before adding the bile to the potion, she took her wooden spoon and started stirring the potion clockwise vigorously...

STIR....STIR...STIR....STIR.....STIR....STIR....

Once she saw that the potion was now at a full spin, the fifth year dropped the armadillo bile into the potion...Now all she needed to do was wait for the potion to stop spinning. When the potion stopped spinning around and was back to normal, Nerida picked up the 4 cups of Flobberworm mucus, and taking her wooden spoon, she began to spoon it out and added it into her potion. Once all of the mucus was added into the potion, she set the cup and wooden spoon down... Now it was watching the potion and waiting for more instructions....

Armadillo bile. Didn't bile come from a vertebrate's liver? So that meant they were going to be handling something... icky. Measuring it was probably going to be gross but Kat didn't think Lafay was one who would tolerate students who didn't want to touch it just because they thought it was 'ew'. Kat measured the armadillo bile and placed it at the side first. Then she stirred the potion clockwise forcefully until it was in 'full spin'. She dropped in the 2 ounces of armadillo bile afterwards. Sniff. This was horrible, the smell you know. No wonder why it had to be called a 'Noxious Potion'. The Slytherin even wondered how many students would be forced to retreat to the comfort room because of the awful smell. Hopefully she wouldn't be one of them.

And now she waited. Until the potion stopped moving so that she could put in the flobberworm mucus. Once it did, Kat ladled the mucus with the wooden spoon and added it into the potion. Gosh her nose was smelling all of this. The smells was NAUSEATING. She was totally going to faint afterwards. Somebody save her when there was still time. While waiting, she scribbled down the the instructions Lafay had given recently.

Next step. Kendall had sat up straighter again as those words had come out of Professor Lafay’s mouth, both because that meant they were continuing to brew and because it meant there was more she needed to watch carefully so she could continue staying out of trouble in this class. Honestly, the talk of shells melting and everything else that had preceded those two words had confused her a lot, but she was still determined to focus on the potion. The potion she was still thinking was going to smell horrible even without the smoke, but at least it wasn’t difficult to measure out the two ounces of bile. All she had to do was pretend it wasn’t bile, and then she set it aside as she returned her stirrer inside the potion and started stirring vigorously clockwise. Once the liquid was spinning at a good speed, which she was going to assume meant it was at a full spin, she stopped stirring and added the bile to the mini-whirlpool. Now she had to wait again. All that meant was time to add to her notes, and even better that she could do so before dealing with the flobberworm mucus.

That was definitely not something she wanted to contaminate her notebook with, so she made sure to carefully set it aside as she’d finished writing, reaching for the mucus and measuring out four cups of mucus into her measuring cup after Scourgifying it. Checking on her potion, she noticed it had stopped spinning, so she took her wooden spoon and started spooning the mucus into it. Ew, she thought, trying to keep moving methodically, like the professor had demonstrated, but wan ting to just get the step over with. The only thing keeping her on track was knowing that there was still the dung to deal with, and soon enough she had scooped the last bit of mucus into her potion and sat back again. They hadn’t been told the next step again yet, and she didn’t want to wait too close to the potion. Not knowing what was already inside. At least the milk wasn’t curdled yet, but it wasn’t really a plus.

Noxious potion
description: emits a green, bad-smelling smoke that makes someone think it is poisonous, and can make a person pass out or feel like throwing up, which will definitely happen if the potion is ingested. Can also injure a person by making them pass out and hit their head, and can be used as a distraction.

Ingredients:
Milk , enough to fill cauldron half way.
5 Doxy eggs
10 grams of Sulfur
2 ounces of armadillo bile
4 cups of flobberworm mucus
1 cup of whale oil
2 cups of Mountain Troll Dung
juice of one lemon
a handful of Poppy seeds

Steps:
1. Scourgify cauldron and make sure that it is clean and uncontaminated by anything
2. Fill cauldron halfway with cow’s milk
3. Light burner under cauldron, keeping it set to a low flame
4. Crack each doxy egg and add to cauldron, stirring once counter-clockwise after each egg
5. Put gloves on, then take each gem of sulfur and crumble it with your hands before adding to the cauldron
6. Measure out the 2 ounces of armadillo bile while vigorously stirring the potion clockwise until it is in a full spin
7. Add the armadillo bile
8. Wait for the spinning to stop on its own
9. Spoon the 4 cups of flobberworm mucus into the potion with a wooden spoon

2 ounces of Armadillo bile. West was strangely focused on what he was doing but then again anyone who knew him really well knew that if he was enjoying himself and learning something new, his concentration would be unshakable.

And the next instruction sounded way fun. West stirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrred. Clockwise and quickly and then watched the potion spinning round in the cauldron. The Armadilo bile went in there and he sat there looking at the spinning potion.

It was stilllllllllllll spinning.

And he had a question in the meantime. He stuck his hand up. "Professor how come we use a wooden spoon for the flobberworm mucus?" Like there was a reason that she'd specified the KIND of spoon?

Oh the spinning had stopped. West started spooning the flobberworm mucus in.

Y'know, with the wooden spoon.

Ira silently worked, focusing on getting the potion right. Thsi was her OWL year, and she was determined to do her best in potions. And remembering about her coming OWLS, her brows furrowed together, berating herself for not yet starting studying for it.

Anyways, back to the potion. She copied down her notes carefully:


Milk in the cauldron done. She proceed to break the doxy eggs, and then stirred counter clockwise as instructed. Then, putting her gloves, she took the gems of the sulfur and crumpled them into milk, dropping it in slowly, so as to not splash herself.

Then, 2 ounces of armadillo bile. She measured it out, and the proceed to stir the potion clockwise. Doing it vigorously, she left it to spin on its own, tilting her head to the side, wondering about it. Shaking her head, she dropped in her measure bile into the mini whirlpool going on down there in her cauldron. She let the spoon spin some more, then stopped it. And then spooned in the flobberworm mucus.
