And that was why they were here, to learn, so why couldn't they just be TOLD everything and take notes? Hmm? That was what she would have really liked to know, not stuff about some weird-scented potion.

But, really, that was the best guess she could take.
Hecate looked at the girl and glared.

"Thank you, Captain Obvious." She said sarcastically, "Can someone who actually wants to learn answer my question?"

Moving on from that. THIRD OF ALL, she was Head Girl Skylar. Fourth of all, she was NOT flirting with Dylan. Psh. That NEVER happened.

Of course, Lafay was really REALLY scary so she was not going to say any of those things. Instead, she settled for a quiet, "Yes, ma'am." There was no need to get into it with the woman. She was scary.

Okay, so there were two problems with Lafay's question. One was that she was not sure what exactly noxious meant and she had NO idea what type of potion that was to be honest. So she kept her hand down and stayed very silent. She was SO lost it was not even funny. They were talking about potions. The only thing she knew for sure about potions was that when she made them they blew up.
Well... she was no fun. She should have stuck to Shacklebolt...

And when they moved on, she finally raised her hand to supply an educated guess to the latest question.

"I'm not familiar with the potion, Professor," she admitted seeing as she wasn't really familiar with many potions. "But perhaps its supposed to make one sick or believe that whatever the person smells is noxious-smelling." Sounded like a good as guess as any.

Raising her hand she waited to be called on.

"Um Professor the Noxious Potion is a green potion that releases green puffs of smoke" Mika asked the look of wonder playing over her eyes.

She really wanted to know more about the potion but she guessed she'd give some more students the time to answer about it.

Raising her hand, the blonde waited to be called on. "Professor, I've only heard the word noxious in relation to gases or fumes so perhaps the potion gives off noxious fumes?" In which case, would they be wearing masks or anything while brewing it?

Also, because Professor Lafay felt better, it was more so likely that someone was getting hexed today. Seemed legit to him. Who would it be was the better question...and if no one felt inclined, perhaps he could...instigate...

The Slytherin Captain was good at bringing out feelings and emotions in others that they themselves were unaware of...

Dylan just needed a victim...

Hmph. Another question.

After some hand-raising, he spoke. "Professor, noxious can mean a smell that is simply unpleasant. So, perhaps this potion is one that makes someone smell revolting." Maybe it could...Maybe it couldn't. "Like if you were someone trying to deter someone's affections, perhaps you could take this and make them lose interest."...because nothing was more unattractive than a stinky female.

Ew.

Raising her hand, Alyssa answered.

"Professor, I believe that the potion makes the person who is smelling it unconscious. It being something not good, its color would be most likely be green....I mean....it being something that is used for the benefit of the user, which is a good thing...it would most likely be green in color." Alyssa quickly amended her answer, belatedly remembering that Professor Lafay was the Head of House of Slytherin, whose house colors were green and black. 'Emphasis more on the black than green.' Alyssa nodded to herself.

She raised her hand. "My guess it's a potion that can harm someone or make them ill." Since Lafay had mentioned that not all noxious things kill.

But... why would something not poisonous NOT kill you? It kind of required some more thinking. Think like a Ravenclaw, act like a Slytherin. Ok, whatever. "It could injure you." Injuring would be the nearest thing to death that a Potion could manage.

Oichi raised her hand, "A noxious potion is a potion that may be poisonous in some way and emits green clouds of smoke when brewed correctly.".

At least her voice wasn't in such an odious tone as her mood. "When completed, it releases green puffs of smoke that, although it hasn't been proven yet, can be considered poisonous, therefore, it might bring harm and injury to the drinker or the one that would be able to inhale the smoke."

Wasn't that just appropriate for her current mood?

Very.

Not really knowing the potion Minerva thought about what it could mean. Putting up her hand, "Professor, could it be a potion that would make a person pass out for a bit or even fall into a sleep." she wasn't sure if that was right, but it sounded fun to do.

Yet she did remember one thing or two, "when released it gives off green clouds of smoke. Precisely what It does I am unsure, yet it is some kind of poison. Perhaps it makes a person collapse from all the harmful eh noxious fumes" She said upon raising her hand.

Though it's been said more than once, Cassia still raised her hand and spoke. "The potion has not very pleasant effects in fact harmful and dangerous ones." That about summed it up. Why speak a lot. "I think it comes in handy if you want to get rid of someone or just teach them a lesson." That wasn't part of the question. She just felt like wording out her bitter, Slytherin-ish thoughts. He knew better to say anything now, especially since she was no longer knocking on death's door, so he settled for a nod in Nell's direction.. though she was already sitting now and it was probably a moot point.

He turned his green eyes back to the front of the room and thought about the first question. Noxious sounded an awful lot like obnoxious.. though he knew the meanings were a bit different. The other students quite sufficiently provided the answer and he didn't really have anything to add to the definition that wasn't just an echo.

Noxious potion and its effects.. The sixth year had never brewed that one and wasn't entirely familiar with it, though he had heard of it before. He thought over its description as well as some of the other answer and raised his hand. "I'm fairly sure that one gives off green fumes. So maybe instead of drinking that potion, one just opens the vial to release noxious fumes.. and maybe that renders the recipient unconscious?" Yes, it was a guess.. but it was a guess inferred from what he knew.

It made sense to him. The other thing he had in mind was comparing it to chloroform, but he may save that for later.

About Noxious Potion.. Ira had actually studied a bit, more like glanced over it. She raised her hand up and answered, "Well, since it is called naxious potion, its intent is to harm the victim." Like, it was obvious, "But since I've not heard the potion killing anyone, I think that it just harms the drinker badly, with the main intention not real damage, but causing pain."

"Yes, you are all right... in a way..." She said "and it can, indirectly injure the victims."

"Yes Master Odessa, no one would or could drink the potion." She said to the boy.

Or it could be put into something, like food, and then it would make the food make the person who eats it sick?" Maybe it was worse if taken directly though? Eh, she didn't know. ... Probably. Sigh. Alright then, she needed a good enough answer. Or any answer, really. "Noxious Potion is... one that..." That WHAT?? "That um... that's poisonous." There. It was an answer. Not the best one, but oh well.

Poker face.

"This is not a potion that is to be injested. Nor could one... even by accident." She said, she'd explain better when everyone had answered.

Mo propped his chin on his fist and stared at the professor with unwavering green eyes as he thought.

Okay, maybe... he raised his hand. "Professor, it doesn't sound like it would be a poison based on the naming conventions we see for poisons. So either it's a non-poisonous potion that maybe smells really bad or is otherwise really offensive to the senses, or maybe it's a potion that can be used to identify poisonous things?" Like an indicator of sorts. That would be useful, right?
Hecate blinked. She looked at her roster. The boy was only a third year, and yet... Like father like son I guess... "Very good. It isn't a poison... though to my knowledge it can't be used as an identifier. People have tried though..."

After hearing all those guesses and the Professor's response, she thought she'd take a guess at the potion they'd be brewing. Could be poisonous, harmful, gross...

"Is it something used to knock people out?...like when someone's trying to get in the way of something you'd slip them some then move on with life like in those muggle movies?" They wouldn't be dead but they wouldn't be meddling either...

Was she right?
"In the right quantities, it can knock someone out. But you couldn't 'slip' them some." She told her.

"Yes it certainly can be used in a duel as a distraction" Very good. They were getting it.

"Well, Professor. I think the skiving snackbox also contains noxious potions? Because they could make someone sick or pass out." he spoke as he raised his hand. Luckily he'd never had them before but he used to prank people with Skiving snackbox when he was a child.
"Not really, you wouldn't be able to ingest them. The smell would be way too strong." She said. "And I certainly hope you do not have any of those... snackboxes on your person Master Head Boy."

SQUASH.

With his book, not his hands of course. Of COURSE.
"The noxious potion emits a green smoke that corrupts the mind into thinking it's poisonous and noxious. The smell can be so strong that it can make you pass out, or feel ill and throw up. It is so strong in fact, that your mind will NOT allow you to ingest it. If it is forcibly consumed, nothing will happen to the victim expect... well... throwing it up. As that is what it trains the mind to do. It can injure the victim indirectly by making them pass out and fall, hurting themselves." She smirked. "They can be used as a distraction, by tossing the vial, or bottle on the ground and allowing the gas to do it's thing."

She was about to put up the list of ingredients when she opted to ask about them instead. "Who can tell me what ingredients are in this potion?"
