There was a crisp, cool breeze outside, indicating that the holidays weren't too far away now. The leaves blow across the ground, racing you down to the greenhouses where Professor Bentley is waiting in Greenhouse Three.
Inside, Professor Bentley is standing beside two long rows of puffapod plants, each with pods bursting with seeds, just waiting to be harvested. Most of the students would recognise them from the previous year ... how time has flown! Stools are arranged along the perimeter of the raised flower bed, waiting for the students to be seated.
OOC: THE LESSON HAS STARTED, DO NOT ARRIVE LATE--JUST PRETEND YOU WERE HERE THE WHOLE TIME. Harvey inserted his hand into the pod that he had just cut open.. after a bit he felt a seed and took it out.. with the slime as well.. it WAS messy stuff.. very slimy..he then put his hand back in.. and grabbed another another seed after he had found it.. he also cleaned this one and again he inserted his hand in and hit the jackpot.. one more seed and he proceeded to clean this seed.. he cleaned it and put his hand into the pod and felt around to see if there were more.. he found one and he cleaned this one was well.. he put his hand back in and couldnt find anymore.. when he thought there were no more.. was about to pull out when his hand brushed something and found it to be a seed so he pulled it out and cleaned it.. and felt around the pod again and found none.. so he knew this was all he was getting.. well yucky and slimy but he had done this part..
he then crossed it off his list..

After setting down his scalpel down in front of him Justin opened the pod enough so that he could get his hand into it. Then he reached in and felt around until he found a seed. He pulled it out and cleaned the slimy membrane from it and set it on his work station and put his hand back into the pod and did the same as he had a moment ago. He repeated this two more times until the pod was emptied of seeds.

Once the seeds were in the bag Minerva looked at her parchment again. Ooops almost forgot a step she thought. Then she turned back to the plant and put her hand in once more. Pulling out the membrane from the plant her face turned even for her this was getting gross. It was slimy and cool to touch she was starting to feel like she was in a plant horror movie. Once she pulled out the membrane she walked it over to the compost heap and laid it down. Then she walked back to her work station.

Harvey then took out his calico bag and put his seeds into the bag. Counting them as he put them into the bag and he then looked at his task list and saw that he had to pull out the membrane.. er... he was not sure about that but it was on his list and he knew that he had to do it.. so he did.. he pulled off the membrane clean off its stem with all its sliminess and he went over to the compost heap and he placed it into the compost heap and he then came back to his station and crossed this off his parchment as well.

After cleaning off the rest of the membrane clung to the seeds he grabbed his Calico bag and put the seeds in into it one at a time. After doing this he closed up the bag and put away his scalpel and removed his gloves.

Once Minerva got back to her work table she pulled off her gloves and her apron. She picked up her wand and her apron, pointing her wand "Scourgify", then she folded the apron and placed it under the workstation again. Next she picked up the gloves and the scalpel "Scourgify". She then cleaned up the rest of her work area as well as the spot on her robes. She smiled when everything was cleaned and back where she had gotten it. She then waited for the rest of the instructions on what they were doing next.

Now to remove the seeds. Biting his lip in concentration, Alex reached into the pod and groped around for the seeds. EEEW it felt like he was digging around someone's brain, it was SO COOL! He finally felt two seeds with his fingers and pulled the pair out, placing them to the side.
He knew there had to be a few more in there, so he reached in again and felt around until he felt at least three or four more. He scooped them up in his palm and pulled them out, finding four additional seeds in his hand which he promptly added to the pile.

Harvey then started to clean up his area.. he cleaned up the slimey jelly stuff that he had cleaned off the seeds.. he has just left all the slime there.. so he cleaned up this slime "Scourgify!" and he then proceeded to clean his scalpel.. not comfortable with casting it in his hand he put the scalpel on the workstation "Scourgify" and he then put away the scalpel from where he had taken it he then put the bag on the table and took off his gloves wondering what to do with them. He put up his hand "Professor.. where do I put these used latex gloves?" he asked not knowing where to put them.. he then waited for the professor to answer and waited for further instructions.. he then took off his apron and also returned it to where he had gotten it from.

Alex looked around at his classmates and realized that he'd collected a few more seeds than everyone else. He had six...his pod had been SPECIAL. Hehe. He looked at the seeds he'd collected and started to pick each one up, one by one, and peeling the remaining gooey membrane off and tossing it in the compost, which was luckily right near his work station.
Once he'd made sure all the excess slimy stuff was off, he tossed each one in the bag (carefully of course) until all six of the seeds were clean.

Sierra just stared at Professor Bentley. Was it just her, or was there always some big task to do in Herbology? Meh. She guessed there really wasn't much else they do in this class, though. As easy as sitting and staring at the plants would be, she knew they'd never be that lucky.
She stood there for a few minutes longer, watching everybody scurry about and start the task, and then decided she better get started before the time to do this came to an end. She slipped on a pair of latex gloves then retrieved the scalpel and bag of seeds. Hmm. That about summed up the equipment she'd need. Now, on to step two...

Pretty much all that was left to do now was just clean up everything. La la la. Alex pulled out his wand and pointed it at the scalpel. "Scourgify!" he muttered, watching as all the greenish slime from the pod started to vanish until the blade was sparkling once again. He pointed to the areas on the desk where membrane had someone made it's way into contact with the table, muttering the cleaning charm at each spot as he pointed his wand at it. Finally, he did a cleaning spell on the gloves...he knew they usually threw them out, why not recycle them and save a pair?
Once that was all done, he waited patiently for the class to continue.

So basically, the professor wanted them to clean. Selena put the five seeds into the bag before looking at the plant. Ech. Ickiness there. It looked like sap. Selena picked it up off of the plant with her two gloved fingers and gave it a little tug. Apparently, it was stretchy-ish too. Selena wondered if it worked like glue. She wondered what would happen if she accidentally left it on the Slytherin Notice Board. Naaah. She didn't want someone to poke her with the membrane. The Slytherin pulled off the membrane on the plant and dumped it with the compost heap. There. Now the membrane wouldn't be lonely with all the other membranes. Hehe... membrane... what a funny word. Selena let out a little giggle before she picked up her quill and crossed out the number four on her paper.
Oh look. Membrane was on her paper now.
... she wondered if pygmy puffs ate puffapod membranes.

"Morning Minerva," she replied, offering the Hufflepuff a bright smile. "I am doing very well, thank you."
Hey Bentley? Seren just grinned brightly. With that level of enthusiasm and cheer anyone could get away with forgetting formalities. Besides, who needed formalities?... pfft. "Good morning Ellie."
"Good morning Spike!" Seren greeted warmly. It was always a pleasure to see the curly haired Ravenclaw in her midst.
"Hello dear, I'm well thank you... and yourself?" she asked smiling at the young Hufflepuff.
"Good morning dear."
"Morning Harvey!" she greeted brightly. "I'm very well thank you for asking."
After double checking, and triple checking the time on her watch, Seren then let the door to the greenhouse close and she turned her attention to the students. "Good morning everyone! I hope you've all come prepared, because we have a busy lesson ahead of us." Busy was probably an understatement. "We have a lot of work to do and a lot to learn, so brace yourselves," she warned with a small mischievous smile.
"Now many of you will recognise these puffapods we planted last year... well now it's time to harvest this seasons seeds!" And yes this was a VERY exciting task, especially if you liked getting a little messy. She looked down briefly at the rows of puffapods in front of them, large ostrich egg sized pods sat upright, attached to low stems. They varied in colour, ranging from light pinks to bright reds, some containing pink seeds, others orange or purple.
With a swish of her wand, the blackboard that was over to the side rolled into position. It's old wheels squeaking in the process. "Note down the following instructions as I walk you through your first task for today."
After pausing briefly, waiting for the students to pull out their notebooks, Seren then stepped up to one of the puffapods. Time for a demonstration. "So first of all, if you look under your work space you will find all the necessary equipment you will need. These include a scalpel, latex gloves... you won't need your dragon hide ones until the next activity... and then you have a bag for the seeds you harvest." She held up her small calico bag as an example.
After pulling on her latex gloves, she then gestured to the puffapod in front of her. "Puffapod seeds... or beans as they are sometimes known, develop and grow within these sizable membranes we call pods. They are very tough and very firm, but as the seeds within them ripen, the membrane becomes softer and easier to pierce." Taking up her scalpel she conducted the first step, making an incision down the side. "The membrane won't harm you. It is not poisonous, if anything it would probably do your skin some good. But I'm guessing not many of you like sticking your hand into a lump of what is essentially plant placenta." Mmm delightful thought. "It is very slimy, and is very much like jelly... but you probably shouldn't eat it, you'll get a stomach ache."
Sticking her hand into the incision, she took hold of one of the ripened seeds and pulled it out, wiping off the excess jelly with her fingers. "And there you have it... a puffapod seed... or bean... whichever you want to call it."
"It's a messy task, which is why you have aprons and gloves, but you should all manage it."
"Good luck, and .... go!" Of course, it wasn't a race or anything.
OOC: The lesson has started, do not announce yourself arriving late, just pretend as if you were here the whole time.

Aurora listened carefully and turned to the instructions. She jotted down the notes quickly onto her parchment - it wouldn't do to get anything wrong, however bad she felt.
Okay, protective gear... Right. She picked up the equipment from under her workspace and took the latex gloves, slipping them onto her hands. Ew... they felt funny... Then she put the apron over her head and tied it into a bow at the back.

LuLu let a short smile spread across her face, she was NOT early but wasn't late, since other students were just starting! Now that's an acomplishment! Whooo! She looked around.. it was a very messy job! Scourgify couldn't possibly cover it, right? She simply shrugged and took out her wand, the mess wasn't going to clean itself, you have to wave your first!!! "Scourgify," she watched as the goey junk cleaned itself! That was about it! She turned to Bentley for the futher intructions or questions or whatever!
Right. Now that she had her protective gear on it was time to make an incision. Aurora picked up her scalpel carefully – she’d been on the wrong end of one of those before. Her fingers had not appreciated it. She looked at the pod for a second, then pushed the scalpel into it at the top, sliding it down so that the cut stretched from the top to the bottom. That looked alright... didn’t it? It looked similar to Professor Bentley’s anyway...

Now that the fiery red puffapod he had chosen to work with had a nice workable opening, Gideon knew it was time for the more mests of the activity. At least the smell was a lot more pleasant then others they had dealt with to harvest their product like bubotuber pus. Now that had been an unlikable task to complete. Now to get the seeds, he wiggled his hand a bit as he debated the best way to go about it before finally slipping it inside the cut.
It was certainly an odd feeling as the membrane moved around his gloved hand. Pushing past it, Gideon felt around for a seed and when he found one gingerly pulled it from its home. One down...however many more to go. The 5th year repeated the movement, in...feel around...grab...out, until he had a collection of harvested seeds within his possession.

Hmmm... now she had to remove the seeds. This would be cool. She made sure the incision was large enough for her hand – it was, luckily, for it stretched top to bottom and there was nowhere else to cut – and reached inside for the seeds.

THERE! She grabbed one... no, two! Hang on... four! She removed the seeds and put her hand back in, checking she hadn’t missed any – she hadn’t.

Now that she'd gathered all her materials, Sierra was ready to start on part two of the process. She peered at the directions, noting it was now time use the scalpel to make an incision down the side of the pod. Top to bottom, too, she also noted.
Turning on her heels, Sierra headed for the supply of puffapods and reached in and randomly plucked out a pod. Pink. Great. With a slight frown, she headed back to her work area. Double checking to make sure her latex gloves were securely on, Sierra made a grab for the scalpel. She held it securely in her right hand while she held the pod carefully in her left.
Finally, she moved the scalpel closer to the top of the pod then pressed down gently. The scalpel broke through, and Sierra moved it as skillfully as she could from the top to the bottom of the pod.
Now she had four seeds. Yay! She held one of the bags open as she placed the seeds inside. Woop! That was cool. Puffapods were adorable! Though she remembered to be careful with the seeds – she wasn’t sure if they were likely to go off if she dropped them. Maybe they needed to mature before they were ready to plant but she didn’t want to risk it.
Okay... what else... Oh. She carefully pulled the rest of the membrane off the stem and carried it to the compost heap. Then she went back to her work space.

Amethyst looked over her instructions and saw that she needed to remove four to five seeds. She smiled and slid her hand into the pod. She giggled softly as she heard the squishy noises. She was very intrigued.
She felt around for the seeds, but she couldn't feel them. She removed her hand and took off one glove. She put her hand back into the pod and started to feel around again. She smile and gently grabbed a hold of one seed.
She continued taking out seeds until she successfully removed four more seeds.

Now all that was left was to tidy up! Right. Hmm. She looked at her little bag of seeds and smiled slightly. She was kind of proud of herself... she’d never been very good at the harvesting bit of herbology... She placed the bag and the puffapod to one side and took out her wand. She cast “Scourgify” on her workspace, scalpel, apron and gloves and returned her wand to her pocket. Then she peeled off the gloves and removed her apron, ready for whatever came next.

Noticing the plant material now on the scalpel, Sierra raised her wand toward the scalpel, gave it a good clean, and then returned it to where it belonged. Now, on to step three. Again, she looked up at the directions. Removing seeds. Ew. Well, sort of. Whoever said Herbology was a clean class anyway?
Being ever-so-gentle with the pod, Sierra opened it enough to be able to fit her hand inside. She moved her hand around, feeling for a seed or two. Finally, her hand grazed across one, and she pulled it out and placed it safely on the work table. Then she repeated the process again. The second time, she managed to pull out two at once. Good. That made three down, a few to go.
For a third time, Sierra reached deep into the pod. For a moment, she thought she'd removed all the seeds. She didn't feel a single one in there. That couldn't be right, though. There had to be more. She felt around again and again, finally pulling out a fourth seed. She placed it on the table along with the three others.
Seeing that she was doing pretty good on time, she decided to try and retrieve at least one more seed. Her hand fished around inside the pod, until she finally pulled out one more seed. Five now. Good.

Amethyst placed the five seeds into the calico bag. She smiled as she rubbed the placenta. It was smooth and felt great. After placing the seeds into the bag, she removed the remaining membrane from plant, pulling the stem off and placing it into the compost heap. Gosh. That was really fun!
She rubbed her hands on her handkerchief and looked at her notebook, seeing she had one more step left.

Selina was so glad that she was done with this portion of the lesson. She loved herbology and the awesome Professor who taught the class, but she was not a fan of plant fluids. And this part of the lesson was filled with slimey and gross plant fluid. So when she had finished up the fourth direction she was more than pleased to see that the fifth instruction detailed just cleaning up her spot. It was a great little direction amazingly releiving. So she cleaned up her work space and waited for momma lion to talk again.

The pod was easy to remove, for it was falling off! Olivia imagined the plant growing another pod out of the same stem, that's probly how it worked. Aaaaaand, she walked over to the compost bin and dumped it in. The patch was starting to dry, and flake off, so Olivia brushed it off.
