"Really carefully!" Oh no, had she said that out loud. She looked around and saw faces looking back. Yup, she had. She should just change her name to captain obvious.
Seren couldn't help but laugh. "Yes, carefully would be good."

By the tone in the professor's voice, she'd rather stay close and not wonder off to the stumps. Though they looked safe, she knew they'd probably be harmful. After all. This was Greenhouse five.

She raised her hand up high. "To extract the pods, do we snap off the pods?" She was SO not sure of the answer.
"Nope.. no snapping involved."

Twirling her wand in her hands, Kurumi thought for a moment before raising her hand. "When...Professor Vindictus did a few Herbology lessons," notice the lack of the word teach in that sentence? "We first stunned the plant using a Stunning Spell to prevent it from harming us and from us misplacing a Severing Charm when removing one of the pods." But, Professor Vindictus was no Herbologist, so chances were it involved something entirely different.
... 0___o the severing charm? oh heavens no!

"Well now you have a proper herbology teacher... so forget anything Professor Vindictus told you."
Merlin, stunning the poor thing was bad enough, but what the heck did they need to sever from it?!

And just when she was prepared, Oakey asked something. Turns out, her query was correct! They were going to face a Snargaluff! Merlin, she knew those were very a dangerous kind of herb. Beezus nodded when Professor Bentley told them to listen carefully and keep in mind what she was going to say. Of course, she really would. From her knowledge, Snargaluffs are flesh-eating plants, which meant the probability that someone might die was very high.

Her hands started sweating as the Professor started unlocking the Greenhouse. So, she was scared. Well..a bit. But who wouldn't be? When she was perfectly aware that the plant they were going to face right now could swallow a student whole! Though, the size of the plant mattered, so she hoped hard that the Snargaluff would only be a small one. And then they were asked to file into a line. She stepped into the very front. And when it was opened, she was the second one to enter next to Professor Seren. And there in the far off distance of the Greenhouse was two Snargaluff plants.

Were they big? She can't tell for she was afraid to look. Instead, she busied herself with thinking for an answer to the question given. Allowing her eyes to avoid the plants, she raised her hand and faced their Professor. "Professor Seren, I think that we can exctract the pods by what Kurumi said earlier, using the Stunning Spell and making sure that we have someone watch our back when we're doing the task." Because well..doing it alone won't result in something everyone would like to witness.
"Team work does help, though if you stun the plant you won't get much extraction done."

Were the students paranoid? ... did they really think it was necessary to just cast a bunch of spells at it?! WHERE WAS THE HERBANITY?! Plants had feelings too you know!

"Erm... no... no spells."

He would much rather be pulling mandrakes from their pots without earmuffs than to deal with a Snargaluff.

I... was all he finally managed to pull from his tongue before the class started to move into the Greenhouse of Terror. Oakey tried to resist the force of the other students passing by him but found himself in the hellish room of plants surrounded by evil things that could eat him at a moments notice. As the last of the students moved by him Oakey pushed himself to the back of the pack and near the doorway. He felt somewhat at ease when Kurumi stood beside him, it was good to have friends at least.
Oh dear...

She should have seen this coming. Poor Oakey, it wasn't surprising that he was still traumatised by the memory of that Blunt boy. Darn good at quidditch he was... but very strange and dangerous at the same time. Possibly even more dangerous than the Snargaluff itself. Maybe?

Well, she'd just have to make sure he walked out alive, Kurumi looked as if she would keep a close eye on him as well.

O_______o

Messer's right hand automatically went to his pocket and gripped his wand. Then he heard the Herbology Professor asked them about how to extract Snargaluff pods. Slowly the young badger released his grip on his wand and raised his right hand "Umm..We can't do it alone, Professor." That's for sure. "We need another person help to extract the Snargaluff pods." You know to watch your back. "Or we could do what Kurumi said." he added.
"Yep, team work helps... always better to have an extra set of hands." ... in case you lost one?

He nodded at the Gryffindor Prefect's answer. Stunning it would be a great idea, indeed, but then another idea crossed his mind and his hand flew into the air. "We can use Immobulus on it to stop it from moving and then extract the pod," he said. That...could work.
"Good in theory, but no I'm afraid that wouldn't work." Some things were best done the hard way.
... this would be fun.

Can he just submit a 10 page essay plus illustrations on how to do that in place of this physical activity?

"The pod is inside the Snargaluff, we have to get it to open to extract it."that sounded simple enough, although there was nothing simple about what it really entails to extract this particular pod. "Its a task that preferably should be done by more than one person, since the Snargaluff has a tendency to get a little.... clingy."

And yes he purposely left out spells or steps on how to extract it, given that he doesnt really want to do the physical part yaknow?
"Yes, very good!"

Clingy was one way of describing it.

Following the group into the greenhouse, Lily made sure that her gloves were on and her wand at the ready, even though she didn't exactly know what might happen. She stayed toward the center of the group, just to be on the safe side. When the professor asked a question, Lily brushed a strand of her red hair out of her face before raising her hand to give an answer. "Could we use the Accio spell to get them to come out?" she offered as a possible answer.
What was a Snargaluff? ... Oh sweet mother of Merlin! ... she'd forgotten that some students weren't of wizarding heritage.. either that or just never bothered to open a text book.

"Snargaluffs are flesh eating plants, often considered herbs, though they more closely resemble trees," she said indicating one of the two gnarled stumps which stood a few feet away. "They're inactive now, but once you get close they will attack with their vines... just becareful of the thorns." .. and it's mouth, of course.

"No.. summoning charms are not very effective when it comes to extracting or harvesting seeds or pods."

Besides, that would spoil all the fun!

But weren't the pods hidden inside the tree stump? "I'm still not sure how we get the pods out of that tree stump, though. If we freeze or stun the plant, would we still be able to get inside it to get the pods?"
"Very good Sierra, team work is always best.. you could attempt to do it yourself but that's best left to a professional." And maybe once you're older and bigger, that way you're harder to swallow. Mmhhmm.

"Freezing or stunning them won't work, they need to be active in order for us to gain access to the pods." A very good question by the Snake.

Honestly, Daichi had no idea what he was talking about but it seemed like the poor boy was scared... welcome to the club~ he thought, remembering how scared he had been in the first DADA lesson with all the fire.

As the doors unlocked, Daichi filed in behind the other students with his gloves still on. He found a place to stand and curiously looked around. Was it just him or did the plants looked...scarier and bigger in here?

Upon the Professor's question, Daichi thought for a moment and then raised his hand. "Just pick it up?" he asked...he had no idea what he was talking about or what a snargaluff was.
"Yep... more or less."
Seren smiled brightly, it was as easy as picking it up, though that was really the end result.

"Nope... no spells on this one."

"The stunning charm is frequently used when dealing with Snargaluffs, but not when extracting pods..."
Another wand-happy student. Merlin!

"Interesting thought, but no... nothing overly special, unless you think your hand and arm is particularly special?"

... why did they all just want to stun the poor Snargy?

BARBARIC STUDENTS!

... "Erm, no... we don't use any spell work when extracting, the wands are merely a precaution."

I guess you should stun the plant first so it wouldn't ... harm," with its weird harmfull looking, whip like, vines.
... and again?

"Nope, no stunning." .. the plants were already stunning enough.

Finally!..

"Yes! that's part of the process."

She had heard about what had happened to Oakey and knowing his secret, was worried that he might have a problem working with them. She was glad to see Kurumi move closer to him. Knowing how efficient she was, Alyssa was sure that the Prefect would keep him safe. But to be on the safe side, she stood a little closer to him too, even though she didn't know what to expect from these Snargaluffs having not worked witn them before.

Then she heard the Professor ask her question. Even though she had not worked with them, she had read somewhere how to extract the pods, so Alyssa raised her hand and answered."Professor, one first has to avoid getting hit by its spiny branches. If they can do that, they try to find any opening through the branches and reach in and grab the pods. We could work in pairs. One person grabs the branches, while the other, grabs for the pods. Or like Kurumi said, just stun it, then you can work alone."

Then Alyssa thought of the numbing spell they learned last year. "Professor could we use the numbing spell, Viro Torpeo to make it drowsy? That way it wouldn't be able to lash out."
"Yes, very good Alyssa," she replied with a nod. Though it appears the girl hadn't finished speaking...

"It's a good thought, but remember the numbing charm is effect on small plants only... it would be useless against a Snargaluff."

Time to set a few things straight...

"Nobody is to use their wand against a Snargaluff unless absolutely necessary... once you have extracted a pod, and your team mate has moved away, ONLY THEN may you stun the Snargaluff so that you may get to a safe distance." ... the last thing she needed was a bunch of stunning spells being shot around the greenhouse. That would be disastrous.

"I assure you the Snargaluff is more afraid of you than you are of it," this, she thought was true, though others wouldn't think so. "You have your wands merely for precaution, nobody is going to get eaten today, not on my watch. You will all leave here with your limbs in tact." This was both a promise and a guarantee.

"Now for the last activity, I want you all to form groups of either two or three, no less and no more."

"Once you have formed your group, you will need to wait your turn to extract a pod from a Snargaluff... owing to the fact that we only have two, you will need to be patient."

Seren cast a glance backwards at the two stumps one on each side of the greenhouse, just a few feet away from them.

"You will need to discuss who will be holding the vines.. I suggest tying them in a knot if you can, it'll make your task easier, and then the person who is going to plunge their arm into the hole, which, when active, will appear between the branches." And seeing as they were stumps, there really weren't many branches to worry about, just the one of two stumpy looking ones.

"The pods are the size of a grapefruit, they're usually a shade of green or yellow and have fine spiky hairs on them, once your group has successfully extracted a pod, you may come and hand it in to me and then head back up to the castle. Homework will be posted on your notice boards in due time."

Right... was there anything she'd forgotten?

...

"Gloves! if you're not wearing them, put them on now!" Or risk losing a hand or getting thorns in them.

"You may start!"

OOC: Ok, last activity! Yay!!!... instructions are as follows:

[x] You need to work in a group or 2 or 3. No more and no less, NO exceptions. So go! start forming your group!
[x] OOC you do not need to wait to start posting, just pretend as if your group has waited and it's now their turn.
[x] You do NOT need to number your posts. I will be stalking.
[x] ONE person from your group needs to VM/PM me who is in that group-- so I know for sure. You do NOT need to send me links. Like I said, I'm stalking.
[x] You can do this in as many posts as you like.
[x] IF you require Bentley's assistance send me a VM to let me know so I don't overlook it. XD
[x] Acceptable injuries: grazes, scratches, cuts, bruises. Unacceptable injuries: loss of limbs/dying etc..
[x] HAVE FUN!!!

I will leave this activity open for 2-3 days... depending on how active ya'll are. So relax and have fun with it. I will probably post homework tomorrow at some point. PM/VM me if you have any questions!
