Hecate seemed in somewhat a better mood. She had a few bags on one side of the room and she was looking at an old photograph. A very young Hecate Lafay in emerald and silver, on a broom wielding a beaters bat and a handsome young man, on a broom beside her guarding the goal hoops. She was twirling the bat above her head, cheering, and the boy was pumping his fist in the air.
It was her first championship win. Third Year.
She tucked the photo in her desk, opened the classroom, and waited for her students to file in.
ooc: This class will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Antarctica! for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me at the WWoHP, and to Ameh for makin it into a pretty graphic!
Isabelle thought carefully. If they could take out one thing and one thing only. Well, a wand would be good. But, then there was her bag. That normally had her wand. So that meant that it would probably be the best thing. Isabelle raised her hand. "I would take my bag because it holds my wand and lots of my other important possesions that I always carry around with me."

If her dorm catches fire That would never happen! At least Victoria hoped not.
"If my dorm ever catches on fire." Victoria started to say. "I really couldn't take anything with me, because the fire would spread fast and we have to get out of there as quickly as possible." She hoped she just gave a reasonable answer. It kind of seemed quite selfish to others answer because they all mentioned to take their pets with them. "Of course, I would take my dog but she's pretty fast and smart, and will get out of there probably faster than me."
Wist thought about it, and wondered if it was technical to say "My trunk, because everything is inside it." But her wand she often kept outside of the trunk, most of the time when she wasn't sleeping.
India took a minute to think what she would bring after all she needed to think hard on it. Alright what did she need, she needed clothes, money, something to drink? Something warm? And were there things she wanted? A towel - nope not necessary.
That only left one thing. "My wand - because with it I can extract the memories of the items lost in the fire, and with it I can provide for myself what warmth I need and I can transform one item of food into something more desirable. Like a pumpkin into a peach." She offered with a smile. Yes she was practical not sentimental. "Actually...I'd rather take my photo of my family I'd rather miss the photo of us all together on our first trip to Diagon Alley."

Well. Indiana surely hoped that her dorm was not going to catch fire. That would be pretty bad. But hopefully that wouldn't happen, or somebody would be able to put it out. But now she needed to think about what she would take. Now she could take her wand...but she could always get that replaced. And she did have her wand in her holster. So technecally that would already be on her, considering she didn't leave that anywhere else. So...hmm. "I'd take my books." Becaue she was a bit of a nerd. But that was good. Because knowledge was power. And Indy liked being nerdy. "I like reading...." Because even if all her stuff had burnt, she would still be able to learn, and that would be good.
Spike stared at his sister. STARED. She'd take books? Books? This was an idea that Spike couldn't quite process. She'd apparently leave Pink Ted behind in favour of books. Poor Pink Ted...lying there all alone in the flames. Maybe he should test her on the idea later. The charms Professor would probably suggest his 'incendio' and 'reparo' spells needed some work. Almost like the time when he test how long ants could survive in a Muggle microwave. Hehe.
Turning his attention away from his sister's ridiculous notion, Spike thought about what he'd take. Admittedly, most of his most cared about things were usually on his person...namely Matilda and Killy and Kranky. He thought about the dorm, and realised what he'd take was actually quite obvious. "My photo of Finn, Jimmy and me after the Quidditch Championship Final in my first year," Spike said with grin at the memory. That definitely meant a lot to him. The people, the memories of the game, the record of his EPIC two black eyes, the autograph added to it. Oh yes. And it now sat proudly at his bedside, by his honking daffodils...because he knew Finn would have loved to sleep beside the honking daffodils if he was still here. Of course, he'd take those too if he could, but the pot was pretty big and heavy.

Hmm this was a challenging question. There were just SO many things Tori couldn't live without!
"I would take my..." shoes? purses? skirts? shoes? No no no... "...wand," Tori answered at last, because with her wand, she could summon everything else she wanted. Duhhhh.

Vashti wasn't going ask why the Ravenclaw dorm would catch on fire nor why they couldn't all just band together and put the fire out with Aguamenti or something. It was all hypothetical for the most part, she figured, and Professor Lafay probably just wanted them to answer the question and not overcomplicate things. So Vashti considered the question for a few minutes. What was one thing that was important to her and that she couldn't possibly leave to burn in a fire?
There was her wand, of course, but she pretty much always had that on her so it was given she'd take that - and even if she didn't, as much as she loved her wand, she could get another one; therefore, it was replaceable. There was Cally, her owl, but she would be in the owlery, and Vashti was quite certain her owl was more than clever enough to fly away from danger without her help. Her broom was pretty important too, especially since she'd only gotten it just a little over half a year ago and it was her very first broom. Still, it, too, was replaceable. There was really only one thing in her dorm that was irreplaceable.
She raised her hand. "I'd take my photo of my parents and me," she said. It was the only picture of her family before her dad had become ill that she had with her at Hogwarts. She had others at home, of course, but that one was her favorite and she didn't want to lose it.

Presley almost fell out of her seat. She'd gotten it right! Lafay had called her "miss" for perhaps the first time in the girls year and a half at Hogwarts. Then for the question. Presley knew exactly what her answer was, but she didn't necisarily want to share it with the class. Her wand would be in her pocket already, so she didn't need to worry about that. Presley even slept with the thing, her brother had so ingrained in her head the importance of safety. Presley woud take the photo album. The huge one that was almost as big as she was. It was filled with all of her happiest pictures ever. Pictures people had sent to her, pictures taken of her, pictures taken by her, and a post-card, sent to herself, from every country she'd ever visited. But that was somewhat personal. Most of the girls in her dorm didn't even know she had it. But that was what Presley would have grabbed. She raised her hand slowly. "I think I would take my favorite book, professor. "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens. Or maybe my Shakespeare collection." And speaking of her Shakes collection, didn't Elliot still have her histories volume? She needed to get that back soon. She had to have finished it by now. She'd had all of winter break, and she was an intelligent girl. Presley just wanted it back, because she wanted to re-read King Henry VIII.

Penny thought hard about what she would take out of her burning dorm..Putting her hand in the air she said "Professor, if all my dorm-mates are safe, and my wand was in it's holster - then i'd take my Photo Album, It holds a lot of cherished memories!"
She also nodded in agreement with Alyssa's thoughts...
Orr wasn't sure of Prof. Lafay's question mainly because she didn't know what she would really do in that situation. She raised her hand and said, "I suppose that I would take my wand."
Yeah, that seemed to be the one thing that was really irreplaceable in her dorm room.

If her dorm was on fire? That would quite impossible but if it really happened... Tiffany thought for a while. Then she raised her hand.
"I guess I could take nothing with me if there was a fire since there would be no time for me to choose anything to pick and nothing would be more important than my own life, professor,"she replied confidently. This was what her muggle teachers had taught her before, followed the instructions from the teachers and left that place as soon as possible. It was her knowledge which she had learnt in the muggle world. "But if I can really take one thing with me, I would choose my wand." She sat down and waited for the professor's response.

He thought for a moment trying to think of things that were irreplaceable in his dorm room.
And then it hit him. He raised his hand. "I'd take Josh, Professor." he said. Because Carter wasn't sure if his friend would make it out of the dorm by himself if there was ever to be a fire while they were sleeping.
And because the last thing he'd need was Evelyn hunting him down on the night of a fire.
Josh did count as a thing right?
She wanted to tell him the whole school wouldn't mind if he left Josh there to fend for himself, but he would most likely be asleep and like it or not... Hecate would miss the prat. "Josh isn't a thing... but ok."

“Very Good, that’s not replaceable.” She said.

“Again… the Ravenclaw answer.” Not necessarily a smart one.

She remembered getting that picture album for her 7th birthday. Half of it was filled with still-pictures, about a quarter of them moving with more smiles than the first part, and the rest empty.

"Class, lets start." She said and sat on the front of the desk. "Let's say your dorm catches on fire..." She said and then asked. "and you can take one this out. What would it be?"
Nessie spoke up only when it was her turn. She kept her eyes down on the table. She twidled her thumbs slightly before answering. "I would save my sister's ring" She touched her pocket and fingered the outline of the jewel.

Nessie shook her head slightly leaning back in her chair, keeping her hand on the ring in her pocket, remembering the memories of her sister. Her eyes pricked at the edges. She brought her hand to her eyes and wiped away the evidence of her sadness.
Oh, dear! That sounded like a brilliant potion. Sure, it wasn't very useful, but it would be fun to use it and animate different photographs. Plus, other than the Photo Animating Charm, Eino did not know how it was that the wizard pictures, photos, and portraits came to life. He always thought it was because of the camera, but apparently there were other methods to animated photos. Sadly, Eino did not know how developing pictures was done. In fact, that sounded like a muggle thing to do, and he knew very little about muggle things. So he remained quietly seated, ready to take notes.

Oh…… pictures. Right. Hmm… Sky had to think about the question for a minute. She knew how muggle pictures were developed, maybe wizard pictures were developed the same way? And so with a bit of tweaking of the words, Sky had her answer. " You somehow transfer the picture from the film to a blank sheet of paper, then put the paper in a potion to make the picture appear……?" she started, but trailed off. Really, it had sounded better in her head.

Maddy was surprised, she had always thought that people in wizarding photos moved automaticaly as soon as they came out of the wizarding camera. This was going to be fun!
That was a hard one! Wist decided to do what she did when in doubt: Take a guess based on other peoples answers. The only one who answered so far was Sky, so she said "Yeah, I agree with Sky.Youtransfer the picture from the film to a blank sheet of paper, then put the paper in a potion, with preserving spells, of course. Then you do something to transfer?"

Ohh, this would be interesting, learning the potion to make pictures move. Vashti had always wanted to try that. She knew very little about how someone developed pictures - she'd never given it a whole lot of thought, honestly. So long as whoever developed the photos did a good job and the pictures didn't come out all awful, she didn't really care how they did it. Still, there was one thing about it that she could think of.
"Isn't the room where film is developed called a darkroom?" she asked/answered with a raised hand.

Harvey nodded when the professor mentioned that it was sentimental value. He didnt know how photos were developed in the wizarding world, so he was silent and listened to what his classmates were saying.

O___o Socks? August too turned in his chair and looked directly at the strange Slytherin girl who mentioned she would save a pair of socks before anything else from a fire. She must not have many things?
Oooh wizarding photos? The Gryffindor had been mesmorized by these moving pictures since he arrived at Hogwarts. But he did know a little bit about the way Muggles took care of this task so he raised his hand. "Professor, for the Muggles they use certain chemicals, like this potion we will make, and then soak the film in the chemical in it a dark room. Then the film negative becomes positive creating the picture."
He didn't know anything magical that would be changed to make them move, besides the potion.

They were doing what?
Marilyn sat up a little straighter in her seat. The potion that animates photos?
Raising her hand, "You know, I seen a muggle documentary once..." *eyes Carter* "...about photography. They use a dark room and solution. I'm guessing the magical way wouldn't differ too much."
*chin tap*
"I suppose there are spells that could preserve the photo from exposure...So a darkroom wouldn't be necessary, perhaps."

Sierra didn't say anything in particular about Lafay's response to her, but she did let the corners of her mouth edge up into a smile. She didn't doubt her Head of House could save herself, but it wouldn't stop Sierra from being concerned about her.
She sat up as straight as possible in her seat. She was trying to get a good luck at what Lafay said was the answer she was referring to. The only thing she could see, though, was the woman touching a drawer. A drawer? ...but what...oh, right! She'd been looking at a photograph when the class had opened, hadn't she?
Sierra sat back in her seat and raised her eyebrows at the announcement of the lesson's topic. It was actually a really interesting topic, which was more than what she could say for the topics discussed in Ancient Runes and Arithmancy. She hated those two subjects... Anyway. She raised her hand. "I know you have to run the film through a mixture of chemicals and water first," she said. "...but I'm not exactly sure what happens after that."
