Hecate seemed in somewhat a better mood. She had a few bags on one side of the room and she was looking at an old photograph. A very young Hecate Lafay in emerald and silver, on a broom wielding a beaters bat and a handsome young man, on a broom beside her guarding the goal hoops. She was twirling the bat above her head, cheering, and the boy was pumping his fist in the air.
It was her first championship win. Third Year.
She tucked the photo in her desk, opened the classroom, and waited for her students to file in.
ooc: This class will stay open for at least 72 hours (probably more.) Also thanks to Antarctica! for taking the picture of the Potions Classroom for me at the WWoHP, and to Ameh for makin it into a pretty graphic!
Violet gaped at Rose and her friend, Daisy and looked at Ashley. 'Detention?' she mouthed. Oh, God. Mum'd. No. Dad'd flip. Not Mum. Mum wouldn't even hear about it. But detention? She was slightly impressed with her sister. Slightly. And she had absolutely no idea what the answer was to God knows what question Lafay had asked. Violet glared at Lafay silently. Silent, but deadly. Definitely proved correct. Teller from Penn and Teller, totall the better 'Magician'.

Raising her hand, Thea's nose wrinkled as she thought about her answer. 'I'm not too sure, but don't they soak it in the potion we're going to make? Then hang them up to dry out..' Lowering her hand, Thea smiled hopefully. That sounded about right..
Resting her chin in her hand, Thea tried not to let her eyes close. she hadn't been sleeping so good lately...
MJ considered the question for a while, not wishing to sound stupid or get on the wrong side of the scariest teacher at Hogwarts. Although said scary teacher did seem in rather a good mood today. Well it was worth a shot, right? She raised her hand. "The film has to be soaked in chemicals of some kind and hung up to dry, but it all has to be done in pitch black because light damages the images or something. Because they've already been exposed to the optimum amount of light when they were taken. Or something." The First Year shut her mouth more hurriedly than she meant to. She had to stop saying "or something"; she really did.
Aaron grinned, yes, Plunko meant a lot to him. A LOT. He couldn't sleep without the thing.
He frowned as they were asked how a photo was developed. So far as he knew all you had to do was hand it in at the shop and you'd get the real thing back later. But that wasn't the right answer, he knew that much. 'It's probably not magic.' Aaron said. Unless wizards had some funky way of developing photos nowadays...
He looked around the room, there were plenty of kids who did know the answer.

"Go to a dark room, sink the film pictures in water, and then..." Victoria wasn't sure what happens after that. But that was all she know. Once her father had done something wil films, Victoria was young and became bored from watching his father work, so she went to bed early that day.
Victoria was still really confused how all the film thing is related to potions.

Yeah, the professor was right. He was not a thing but still it was a good thing that Carter would take him out so he could resume his sleep...at outside. Slightying smiling at the idea, he was about to put his head back on the bag when Lafay stated that his answer was not the answer she was looking for. Well...simply, it was not what she had asked.
Okaaaay then but it was what he would do anyway. He could not think of anything else to take out other than living and breathing things. Loss of other stuff was not as important.
And photos were the answer she was looking for? Well...then it made sense that she did not get that answer from Josh Carter because he did not have any photos that he kept and still he would think saving other stuff would be more reasonable.
Plus, he had no idea about the answer to the second question so he thought he could...

...and who needed that old, rusty school bag while he had Evelyn beside himself.
Half closing his eyes, he leaned his head on the Head Girl's shoulder and smiled with happiness.
This was what he could call peace.

Violet thought about the time her Muggle uncle showed her his roommate's darkroom. Muggle pictures were developed by dipping them in a lot of different liquids and chemicals, and you had to be careful about how much light you exposed them to before they were done. But magical pictures would need...well, magic, wouldn't they? Well, duh, what class were they in now, anyway? She raised her hand and said, "I know Muggle photographs have to be dipped in various chemicals and solutions, but I expect that for magical photographs, you have to use some sort of potion."

Yup. Carter saw that. Evelyn smiled! He made Evelyn smile! That was one to cross off his bucket list. And he was glad to hear that Evelyn would make sure that Destiny made it out of the fire. Especially because, based on her answer, the snake would be busy looking for a pair of socks while there was a fire going on.
He made a mental note to buy Destiny socks sometime... since... she considered them a valuable possession... apparently.
And Josh was a thing. Professor Lafay has apparently never seen the boy sleep. He was sure not even dragons made some of the noises Josh did...
His eyes widened at the mention of what they were learning today. Brilliant! He'd been waiting 7 years for this lesson!
Oh! Carter knew about pictures! He raised his hand. "You take them to the pharmacy and they have a machine they run them through!" Or you could do it the old fashioned way with the chemicals and the dark room...
Not as much fun though. And it took much longer that way.

Most of the class had it right.
"Yes, to make it simple... muggles process the negatives through some chemicals, then enlarge them onto photographic paper, then pass it through more chemical and then pass it through water. They then hang them until they are dry. And they do all this in a room void of all light, but a red one." She said and dimmed the lights, creating a red hue.
"There are two ways of making a wizard photo, taking a muggle one and animating it with a charm or, using the devomotion potion to pull the actual animation onto the picture." She walked to the front of her desk and sat on it. "When you take a muggle picture the negative captures the exactly split second you take it. So animating it with a charm will only make it do what you want it to, not what actually had happened at the time the picture was taken."
She called up the bags in the corner. "Wizard cameras capture the few seconds leading to the moment the picture is taken, and the few seconds after... only the devomotion potion can put that on photo paper. Now..." she said casting an aguamenti in her cauldron, and then lit a fire under it. "Start with water on a low flame."

Gideon tried to think of what he would save but the only items that came to mind were items his fellow students already mentioned. And he had to admit the thought of trunks was a good one since it covered much of ones belongings. As Professor Lafay expressed what they were in fact going to work on, the fourth year couldn't help but look brightly.
They are going to learn how to create the potion that makes wizarding photos work? Now that was a far more positive potion and something Gideon was actually looking forward to make. He listened to what was being said, taking down anything he deemed noteworthy before paying attention as the potions mistress started instructing them on the actual process.
"Scorgify," he cast making sure his cauldron was clean before starting the first step...the water on low. "Aquamenti," the Gryffindor then cast filling his cauldron, adding a low "incendio," to light the flame but not too high.
Kennedy reached for his cauldron and set it properly, in front of him. He had already cleaned it before this class, obviously he remembered last lesson. He took out his wand and pointed it as the cauldron and said, "Aguamenti!" After it was filled, he incendio-ed the botton of the cauldron to start a fire. When he was done, Kennedy waited for the next instructions while thinking about this devomotion potion. If he could successfully make this and create moving pictures, then he could take a lot of pictures and then show them to his mom when he went back home. That would be awesome, his mom, whom was a muggle, would be able to see a bit of the wizarding world through pictures...moving pictures.

As the Potions Mistress began to speak telling about the differnence between the spells and the effects of the potion; Augut took all the information he could down in his notes. He didn't want to miss anything that may come up in there exams later.
And now they were beginning. August too pointed his wand at the empty cauldren and copied Professor Lafay's spell, filling his cauldren with water too. "Aguamenti." The clear water ended from his wand tip and the then started a small flame underneath aswell.
Isabelle listened carefully. Ok so she wasn't really right but that was fine by her. She was excited though that they were going to be making a devomotion potion. Isabelle had never made that before. She was sure that it would be a really cool potion to make and the results would be amazing.
"Aguamenti," Isabelle murmered filling her cauldron with water. "Incendio," she said quietly creating a low flame before waiting for more instructions.

That was how photos were developed? Interesting... Vashti jotted notes down as quickly as possible as she listened to Professor Lafay, wondering what the photos would look like if it wasn't done in a completely dark room, until- GAH! Why was everything all RED?!
After blinking a few times to get her eyes adjusted to the dimmer light, the Ravenclaw finished her notes and set her quill down. So now it was time to start? She pulled out her wand and Scourgify'd her cauldron a couple times to make sure it was completely clean. Then she filled it with an Aguamenti spell and carefully cast Incendio under the cauldron, making sure it was a low flame.

Deveoling photographs for both muggle and wizards are not entirely that different, of course with the wizard photo it's animated. Jonathan has never once done that-- develop a photo. If right now, their homework is to take someone's picture and then develop it then it'll be super fun!!!
Jonathan smiled. Yes! They were finally going to do the experiment for this. He took out his cauldron like everyone did, obviously. Then he took out his wand "Scourgify!" he cleaned his cauldron before starting with the activity for today. Next step, he saw Lafay cast the aguamenti spell so Jonathan pointed his wand into the mouth of the cauldron "aguamenti" he watched as water filled his cauldron. lastly, start the fire with low flames. "incendio" he said softly as he tried to concentrate on the amount of fire he was casting.

Sky checked her cauldron to make sure it was clean. It was, so she cast "Aquamenti," to fill it with water. Then she cast "Incendio," to make a low flame. She wondered if they were going to just brew the potions, or if they would actually get to develop some photos. She hoped it was the latter. It seemed like it might be kind of fun!

Sierra listened intently as Lafay explained the process of developing photographs. It was a process Sierra was only slightly familiar with, so it was good to have a better background before brewing the potion they were about to make. She nodded as she listened to the differences between charming a picture and using the potion on it.
Right. The potion was much better it seemed.
After she got everything good and situated, Sierra aimed her wand toward her cauldron and gave it a good "Scourgify!" She'd been in enough of Lafay's classes to know that you'd just have to start all over again if she caught you not cleaning your cauldron first. Once it was clean, she aimed her wand into her cauldron and said, "Aguamenti!" As the water filled the cauldron, she lit a low flame under it.

Seriously? A non-clean cauldron? She took out her wand tapped the cauldron "Scourgify",she said calmly as it became clean.
Hmm..water on low flame? Got it boss! And Amethyst was off. "Aguamenti." The cauldron was full, and and ready to be heated. "Incendio.." Hmmp. Not too bad..yet.
She sat back waiting for the next set of instructions as she thought about whaf Potion Mistress Lafay had said. She thought it was interesting, the Wizards camera.

Put the negatives through some chemicals? Eino wasn't sure what the negatives were but he hoped there would be some positives involved in this process, too. He took out his wand and quietly used the scourging charm to clean it. Then, he cleaned the space around the cauldron, so nothing would get wet or burned in the process of brewing. Finally, he filled the cauldron with water using the water producing charm and lit a low fire under it, using the fire producing charm. He paused and looked up at professor Lafay for further instructions.

Marilyn listened carefully, eager to learn this particular potion. It could be very useful in the future, considering she wanted to take Journalism at University...
O.O And there was mood lighting? Nice...
Pulling her cauldron, she started with making sure it was properly cleaned. Pointing her wand on the inside, she whispered Scourgify...There was no need to disturb the class with shouted spells.
Next, casting Aguamenti, the blonde allowed the water to fill the bottom of the cauldron. An Incendio later, the water was heating on a low flame...
Grabbing her Potions journal, Marilyn began documenting her progress...

... and they were finally getting started.
After listening to everything professor Lafay said, Nora pointed her wand at her cauldron and muttered "Scourgify." When it was clean (there was no way she would forget about her golden rules), she pointed her wand again at the cauldron and said "Aguamenti." Now that there was enough water, she added "Incendio" when her wand was directed below the cauldron, and a low flame appeared there.

Alyssa quickly wrote down everything the Professor had said about how moving potions were made. She then looked while the Professor demonstrated the steps. She quickly wrote down the steps.
Text Cut: Alyssa's journal
Ingredients:
Water
Steps:
1. First put water into the cauldron using Aguamenti spell.
2. Light fire under cauldron. Keep heat on low.
Alyssa made sure that she had everything ready. She first cleaned out her cauldron by tapping her wand on it and saying "Scourgify". Then she checked it to make sure that it was clean. Once certain that it was, she pointed her wand inside the cauldron and said "Aguamenti". Water started spraying out from her wand. She filled her cauldron with water. Then she bent down and pointed her wand and then lit the fire and kept it on low.
As the water simmered on low heat, Alyssa sat back and waited for the Professor's next instructions.

Kourtney made notes on the difference between Muggle and wizarding photos before setting her parchment to one side. Okay...first off, remember that everything must be clean. Casting the cleaning spell on her cauldron, she pointed her wand yet again, mimicking August who sat nearby. "Aguamenti!" A stream of water flowed from the tip of her wand and into her cauldron. Woohoo! She always felt rather proud when she accomplished things like this.
Then, she started a fire, careful to adjust it so that it remained on a low flame. Easy enough. Though the initial steps usually were. The further they went, the more complicated the steps.

Sarah listened intently as the Professor spoke about the negatives and moving photos. This class is surely gonna be fun. She jabbed down some points while she listened.
Once it was over Sarah set her cauldron and Scourgify'd and then casted 'Aguamenti' A small stream of water splashed into the cauldron. She checked and then casted 'Incendio' and ensured it was to low flame.
"What next, Professa?" she asked, in a mere whisper.
Desiree listened to Professor Lafay explain photo developing, it was pretty interesting stuff. Muggles seemed to have to do a lot more work though.. wait not really, she supposed wizards had to spend all that time making the potion. The muggle way might even be easier, but well, then it wouldn't move, and what was the fun in that?

-Light a small fire (Incendio)
Taking our her supplies, she pulled her wand out of the leather holster, "Scourgify!" she said pointing it at the cauldron. Following it with "Augumenti!", which filled the previously empty cauldron with water, she smiled to herself, she loved doing that spell.
Now time for a fire.. "Incendio" and a spark started but quickly faded away. Sigh, things had been going so well. "Incendio!" she tried again and a flame started up. Yay.
