"Nope. The oldest, Edward, is in college; he's studying theatre. And Eli is..... er.....with friends most of the time." Emmy stuttered, trying to speak kindly of her brother. "So, what was school like, you know, with the other kids?"
"Not as fun as here, really... Here, kids are friendly. Over there, they don't like what is different. Here, we're all different!" he added with a smile. He didn't know if he made any sense but he certainly hoped so.

She laughed at this too, everything seemed funny today. Except for her hunger. Candy was yummy and sugary, not filling-y! "You?"
Hehe. Secondie? "Nice," Vashti said, grinning at the girl's new term for second year. "Second year's a good year." Hers had been anyway. It was right after first year, so you weren't as new to the whole Hogwarts thing, but right before third year, so you weren't yet an angsty teenager. Yeah, being a "secondie" was great in Vashti's mind. "I'm a fifth year." Hmm, could she make a new term for that? "A 'fifthy,' if you will." Wasn't as cool as "secondie," which only confirmed her belief that second year was better.

The third year then yawned.. like in public and without any courtesy (the lady teen thing down the drain this time) and rested her head on her crossed arms on the table, looking up at both Vashti and the new girl. "Man! I am starving. Do you guys think the headmaster will mention the ship in his speech?" She said, deep inside wishing he would. And then they'd know who was really missing and why.. She so should get Vashti and go have a look at it for a second. Nothing major, just to see where not to go.
Cruel boy? Captain? "Jacob?" Vashti questioned, raising an eyebrow and glancing around briefly to wherever he was seated. "What's wrong with him?"
...
Actually, that was a bad question. "On second thought, don't answer that," she added. "I guess I should ask: How is he cruel?" Strange and insane were the terms she generally attributed to Jacob. Cruel, not so much.
Ahh, the ship. Vashti, honestly, had forgotten all about reading it until Louisa had brought it up. "I don't see how he couldn't," she replied. "I'm sure everyone's wondering about it, and, well, it's a giant ship in the middle of the lake - how could anyone not mention it?" It wasn't like you could ignore something like that.

Aaand then there was a voice on Dallin's other side. He turned his head quickly, his smile reappearing when he saw who it was. It changed into a smirk when he realized how calm Ellie was, when he wanted to yell a greeting and give her a hug.
What was getting into him?
"Hey, Ellie," he greeted. "How's it goin'?"
"What's that for?" The smirk. Smirk's were suspicious. Ellie knew. She smirked too.
SIGH. "Alright I guess. You?"

Biting her lip for a split second as she tried to remember, in the end she gave up with a little laugh. "I'm so sorry. I'm sure we've met before but my mind's being difficult with the lack of food." Never good for anyone's mental process...at least she thought so.
With a friendly smile, she extended a hand across the table. "So for the sake of reintroduction, I'm Ivory."
Ellie smiled at the familiar girl. Yes, hi indeed.
Nod. "We probably have. It's a big school, too, though. So..." she shrugged. People could easily confuse and forget people. "Mmm. Food." And lack thereof was a good excuse for anything. Tate didn't seem to always understand that. Otherwise, he wouldn't take YEARS to make his speech, now would he?
"Ivory." Yeah, that was totally familiar. "And I'm Ellie." Nice to re-meet you. Smilesss.

Ariana laughed. "Fifthie indeed! I heard somewhere that you start studying for OWLs all the way back in fourth year, is that true?"
Ariana was pretty happy with herself right now, she was a secondie, she had a bunch of friends, and the food would be coming soon!

"Hi, I'm Ariana Hartley, Second Year Ravvie!" Okay, so it was a little less formal what witht the Ravenclaw shortening. Oh well!
"No,I didn't expect to be in Ravenclaw. But I did hope I would be. It's nice to meet you too." Emmy smiled widely. "Did you hope to be in Ravenclaw?"
Melina overheard the conversation and tried to fit herself in. She realllllly wanted to make friends in her house- after all, they were going to become her family for a looooong time.
"Um, excuse me- hi, I'm Melina and I'm a 1st year. I just heard you say that you didn't expect to be in Ravenclaw, but you hoped you would be. May I ask where did you think you were going to be placed?"
"Is it, um, alright if I join your conversation? I mean, if not it's alright , I can catch up with you guys later." She didn't want to just barge in.

Louisa almost snapped into a fit of bad names calling when Vashto wondered what was wrong with him. But then the fifth year corrected the question and Louisa just sighed. With a younger student around, someone who's just she met... she didn't want to tell the shameful story. Her very own dignity might be touched. "He just is. I mean, how does he torture you?" She was more curious and less bitter now. He sure did horrible stuff to his team if they showed a teeny bit of slackness... that was out of question. *seriousnod*
See? Vashti didn't play the scare0the-younger-kid card with Louisa. "Yeah probably. And a lot of the teachers are replaced this year. I wonder how's the DADA professor is. This is the first year I'm willing to take the subject." She said straightening up and glancing a look at the staff table. "Dang. The potion lady's still here." She muttered so that only Vashti could hear.

"Join us!" he told her, indicating the empty seat next to him. "I'm Gavin. I'm also a first year," he told her.
Gavin then turned towards Emerald. He was curious to find out what she would answer as he had wondered himself where she thought she would end up.

"You didn't take DADA last year?" Ariana had taken every available subject. Can't hurt to learn more!
Ariana looked up at the staff table too. There were some professors she recognized from last year, some she didn't. She noticed with a slight sinking feeling that there was the same Potions Professor as last year. Did that woman even have a good side to get on? When she wasn't looking, Ariana glared for a minute before snapping back into cheerful mode! Smile!

"So, are you glad you're a Raven? You must admit it is the absolute best house!"
At that, Ivory gave a laugh, her eyes dancing in mirth. "I'm sure you wouldn't." she quipped with a wink. Hypothetically, if she'd been stalking him now she would know he stalked himself as well...or at least would if he could. The paradoxical thought made her smile widen and she ducked her head slightly.
Settling in for a conversation, she tucked a strand of dark hair behind her ear nodding. "Oh, they're going." And they were. Just at the moment in no general direction. "Most don't start until the feast is over though." Waving a hand in the general direction of the newer students in their house, she continued. "You know, the whole taking the new students up the stairs, showing them where our common room is, helping them with the riddle and of course," she added with a quirky grin. "Letting them know no boys are allowed in the girls dormitories." Because that was a time old taboo of course. Although, it really was a bit sexist that girls were allowed in the boy dormitories. "Basically, giving them the Ravenclaw lowdown."
Her eyes moved off his for a second to take in the Staff table, and she gave a perceptive nod. "Though pleasantries do have to made with the new professors." Shrugging her shoulders, she turned towards him again. "But that will probably wait till after the speech."
Pointing to his general person, she smiled questioningly. "What about your..." Small pause here as her mind whirled. "Guy-ish Ravenclaw 5th year duties. How are those going?"
Dal chuckled at her answer. He listened to the things she had to do tonight, smiling sheepishly when she mentioned that boys weren't allowed in the girl's dormitory. Of course he knew this, and of course he would never think about breaking the rule, but he didn't understand why girls were allowed in the boy's dormitory. Must be old-fashion rules or something that he didn't need to worry about. "I don't think I could be a Prefect," He mused thoughtfully. "I don't have the patience to deal with trouble-makers, and I wouldn't be much of a help to students who needed it."
He followed her gaze to the Staff table and nodded. "I was thinking about formally meeting some teachers this year. Getting off on a good start." He looked up at the professors for a second longer before returning to the conversation.
He raised an eyebrow at her improvised name for his 'duties,' but smiled. "Oh, those! Yeah, they're going great." Yes, he was going to make this up as he went along. "I've, uh, made new friends," he nodded to her, "and... met up with old ones!" He nudged Ellie gently and smiled at her.

Hmm... that kind of explained why she hadn't been excited, yeah? "Something wrong?" Not to intrude... but she could tell him if she wanted. As long as it wasn't something totally girly that he'd have to listen to and pretend to care about. No, that would be bad.
"I'm good. Really good, actually." And he didn't know exactly why, he just was.
Melina sat herself at the Ravenclaw table. The dramatic boat ride to Hogwarts at night was like a dream, one she'd never forget as long as she lived.
The sorting hat had placed her in Ravenclaw!!!!! Oh, thank you, wise hat. Melina just knew she was destined for this house.
She looked around for familiar faces. Oh, where was Adelyn? She needed her big sister right now!!!!
Adelyn rushed over to the Ravenclaw table as soon as the sorting had ended, searching for her little sister. She spotted her auburn hair from the back, and threw her arms around Melina from the back.
"Oh, Melina! I'm so glad to see you! Congradulations on Ravenclaw!" Adelyn grinned proudly at her little sister.
Thalia sat down at the Ravenclaw table nervously. She didn't know anyone there. All the friends she had made on the train were in Gryffindor. She looked around, hoping to see some nice faces.
"Not as fun as here, really... Here, kids are friendly. Over there, they don't like what is different. Here, we're all different!" he added with a smile. He didn't know if he made any sense but he certainly hoped so.
"How was your school?"
"I had a governess, so if you can imagine school with three brothers and an old woman, that's my school." Emmy smiled and shook her head in remembrance, causing her red curls to bounce happily. " Let's just say that we never seemed to run out of practical jokes." she giggled.

Ariana saw a firstie sitting all alone, and thought about how many firsties sitting all alone she'd already seen! Five... six... anyway, they all deserved someone to welcome them to Hogwarts! "Hi, I'm Ariana!"
"So, are you glad you're a Raven? You must admit it is the absolute best house!"
"Yeah! I was really hoping I would be! I'm more the brainy type, like my dad, you see."

"Oh!" said Gavin. "Was that lonely?" he asked her. "By the way, I'm curious, why didn't you think you would be in Ravenclaw? Where did you think you would be?"
Gavin knew he was repeating Melina's question but he really really wanted to know.

Yeah, she was proud of her house. "Oh don't sell yourself short." He seemed like an intelligent guy. "I'm sure you would help if someone really needed it."
He didn't seem like the sort of guy to turn someone in need away. But then again that was just her first impression.
"You know," she began with a grin. "Some people think of it as sucking up to meet the Professors on the first day." Not that she was calling him a suck up of course. "But I like to think of it as laying of the ground work. Like you said get off on a good start. Shows them you have initiative and whatnot." Most people admired that.
Her lips quirked up at his enthusiasm for his duties. Giving a small giggle, she nodded. Yes, those sounded like excellent duties. "Well then I guess that makes us official new friends."
"Yeah! I was really hoping I would be! I'm more the brainy type, like my dad, you see."
Ariana nodded happily. "That would be a Ravenclaw attribute! For me, the Hat couldn't decide between Ravenclaw and Slytherin. It let me choose myself! I picked Ravenclaw just because I'm muggleborn."

OWLs. Why did they always have to come up in conversations? Somehow, some way, they kept popping up and refused to let her go very long without worrying thinking about them. "Yeah, sort of," Vashti answered. "You should definitely start studying as soon as possible, I think, so you don't have to freak out about what to study come fifth year." Like she was now, even though she'd sort of starting preparing and studying for them before this year.

He just is. "That doesn't really tell me a lot," she replied. She'd never liked those "just because" answers anyway. And- torture?? "He...doesn't?" she replied, more liked a question than an actual answer. Where'd Louisa get that idea anyway? "Quidditch isn't torture," she decided to add.
Glancing up at the staff table when the girl mentioned the teachers, Vashti wondered who had been replaced. Hopefully there was someone to fill the spot of Herbology professor, and hopefully that person didn't like teaching about human-eating plants. She turned her attention back to Louisa though as the girl continued speaking. "You didn't take Defense against the Dark Arts before?" Wasn't that a required subject? Then again, to Vashti, every subject was required, so... "Oh, she's not that bad," she said in reply to Louisa's apparent dismay. "Really, she's kinda okay now."

BEAM. Ellie BEAMED at the nudge. Physical contact. It was a good thing. "Beats not having any friends, right?" Cuz last term he was NEW. Heh. That was fun. Good times.
"Oh." SIGH. "Sorry. It's weird right?" she asked. Her not being all excited and stuff. Excited was so HER. Especially in the beginning of term. Her being merose even weirded HER out.
At the question, her eyes flickered up to the Staff table. SOMEONE was missing. Someone that she was pretty sure, if present, she'd be less like...less like whatever she was being right now. Less like a Debbie Downer. Ironic, right? "I just kinda...don't want to be here...now." Maybe in a few more weeks. But now? Now she just missed HOME.
Still, Ellie managed to smile at the fifth year. "That's good! Have a good holiday?"
SPOILER!!: Ivory!

"Nice to meet you too." More beaming. She could do that, apparently, be sad and happy at the same time. Or her mood just changed constantly.
Heh. "Depends on the professor, I guess." Ellie said, inviting herself in their already established conversation cuz she COULD. "Like...if you already knew them, then you're just visiting them and it's like...like you actually like them and genuinely want to interact with them. If they're new, it's kinda like more sucking upish." Words of wisdom from Ellie Stone. Like Little Professor or Hadley, she could confidently approach just to see how their summer was...or something. But that new woman? If she was like 'I'm really looking forward to your class', it'd be MAJOR sucking up sounding. Right?

Gavin knew he was repeating Melina's question but he really really wanted to know.
"It was lonely at times, especially more recently." Emmy told him.
"I guess I never really thought about which house I'd be in, but I guess I would've thought Ravenclaw. I'm the really booky, schoolish type of person." she said, thinking of all the books she had read over the summer.
Was Jeanne late in coming to the feast? She hastily ran through the great hall with her Ravenclaw uniform. Her book still clutch into her arm. As she reached the great hall. Phew! All that running for nothing. They just started the feast. Professors are already in front as the usual. Jeanne looked at each table and spotted her fellow eagles. She approached them and sat. Still panting, she tried to catch her breath again.
Next time. No running for Jeanne. She looked at the wonderfully coked meal prepared for them. She then started to take some of it and put them in her plate.

Nika skipped around in search of Ariana. She wanted to say hello before the feast officially started. Besides she wanted an excuse to go visit the Ravie table anyways.
