The paradoxical thought made her smile widen and she ducked her head slightly.

Settling in for a conversation, she tucked a strand of dark hair behind her ear nodding. "Oh, they're going." And they were. Just at the moment in no general direction. "Most don't start until the feast is over though." Waving a hand in the general direction of the newer students in their house, she continued. "You know, the whole taking the new students up the stairs, showing them where our common room is, helping them with the riddle and of course," she added with a quirky grin. "Letting them know no boys are allowed in the girls dormitories." Because that was a time old taboo of course. Although, it really was a bit sexist that girls were allowed in the boy dormitories. "Basically, giving them the Ravenclaw lowdown."

Her eyes moved off his for a second to take in the Staff table, and she gave a perceptive nod. "Though pleasantries do have to made with the new professors." Shrugging her shoulders, she turned towards him again. "But that will probably wait till after the speech."

Pointing to his general person, she smiled questioningly. "What about your..." Small pause here as her mind whirled. "Guy-ish Ravenclaw 5th year duties. How are those going?"

Dal chuckled at her answer. He listened to the things she had to do tonight, smiling sheepishly when she mentioned that boys weren't allowed in the girl's dormitory. Of course he knew this, and of course he would never think about breaking the rule, but he didn't understand why girls were allowed in the boy's dormitory. Must be old-fashion rules or something that he didn't need to worry about. "I don't think I could be a Prefect," He mused thoughtfully. "I don't have the patience to deal with trouble-makers, and I wouldn't be much of a help to students who needed it."

He followed her gaze to the Staff table and nodded. "I was thinking about formally meeting some teachers this year. Getting off on a good start." He looked up at the professors for a second longer before returning to the conversation.

He raised an eyebrow at her improvised name for his 'duties,' but smiled. "Oh, those! Yeah, they're going great." Yes, he was going to make this up as he went along. "I've, uh, made new friends," he nodded to her, "and... met up with old ones!" He nudged Ellie gently and smiled at her.

SIGH. "Alright I guess. You?"
He gave her an innocent look for a second in regard to his smirk, then gave up on it. "I dunno," he said honestly. "I just thought it was sort of funny... I was going to be all excited and stuff, give you a hug, and you kinda lacked the energy I thought you would have." Maybe that wasn't the honesty she was looking for, but oh well.

Hmm... that kind of explained why she hadn't been excited, yeah? "Something wrong?" Not to intrude... but she could tell him if she wanted. As long as it wasn't something totally girly that he'd have to listen to and pretend to care about. No, that would be bad.

"I'm good. Really good, actually." And he didn't know exactly why, he just was.
